McCain, Obama joint appearance planned last week

McCain and Obama visited Ground Zero Thursday.
McCain and Obama visited Ground Zero Thursday.

(CNN) - The idea of a joint September 11 visit to Ground Zero by both John McCain and Barack Obama was in the works for less than a week, according to both campaigns.

Obama suggested the idea to McCain Friday afternoon when the Democratic presidential nominee called his Republican counterpart Friday, the day after the GOP convention ended, to congratulate him on his convention speech.

"[Obama] called after the convention speech, and over the course of the
discussion they mutually agreed to meet jointly in New York," said McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds.

The two men went to Ground Zero Thursday, entering the site together. Both candidates exchanged brief remarks and spoke with some of those on hand for the commemoration.

don't take shots at the candidates today

if they can be hands off so can everyone else.

if you can't support your candidate without taking a shot at the other candidate

it says a lot about your candidate and more about you

In talking to a friend the other day I was told she would vote for a true American

I asked what does a true American look like she didn't want to answer

I am one American who twice in the primaries of 2000 and 2008 has supported Senator McCain

I am supporting Senator Obama in the General

and although I am not with John McCain, I love the man

but I have to go a different way

This nastiness on both sides especially on the McCain side is very unfortunate because it says this is the only way to be president.

Remember, the study of atoms is our National Security. With it, you can developed advanced tools of weapons.

The Internet, microwave, MRI and everything else was developed through research at FermiLab.....

LIke I said, you can fight all you want in wars, but it aint going to help us with National Security if we LOSE the war in other areas that fuels the economy.....

It's time to give the rein to the Democrats..

We Americans need to carefully consider our vote. This is no light matter and is a great civic responsibility. Get beyond the grousing and sniping and review the issues. And remember that we are not just electing our President, but the man who will represent our country to the rest of the world. Intelligence is not arrogance and arrogance is not intelligence.

It's time for McCain/Palin to talk about the issues and bag looking for the "next cliche." And Palin had better start talking to the press before the press starts talking about her!

The press giveth and the press taketh away!

The Obama campaign needs to quit with the lame lies about Michelle. In Chicago huh? Cause her kids had their first week of school??
WELL WHAT THE HECK WAS SHE DOING AT A WOMEN'S FORUM IN INDIANA YESTERDAY??? And...she was ALSO IN OHIO AT A BAPTIST'S CONVENTION.

face it...the Obama campaign knew Cindy would be there..knew it would be awkward for Michelle not to be there with all the problems she has as far as how she feels on the country (9-11 Michelle??) and thought nobody would call them out on the lies they tell about she can't be there. Obama hiding his wife-he's ashamed of her and so is the campaign-or could it be something else??
Every week Michelle does campaign events on Wed and Thursday and stays overnight too! She had the girls with her in L.A. last week overnight.
    guess this wasn't her thing.

Where is Michelle Obama? With the young children? Why complain about Palin's family taking her away, when the potential first lady can not even make this important date?

"economic justice" is a term frequently used by Obama.

"Economic justice" simply means punishing the successful and redistributing their wealth by government fiat. It's a euphemism for socialism.

  13. Where's McCain's Flag Pin?

McCain forgot to wear his American flag lapel pin on 09/11?

I hope Republicans can finally shut up about silly things like lapel pins that have no effect on the issues facing the country.

It was not surprising to find out that Obama was the one who approached McCain about the joint appearance.. didn't think McCain would have thought of that idea. Bravo to Bloomberg for being instrumental in this endeavor. Today is a day to honor the fallen, not the political fight.

Be aware that reports are coming in of "absentee ballots" being sent to Independent & Democratic voters in battleground states from the McCain campaign. I don't know if this is true, but if it is, it represents election fraud.
I say this to make people aware of election material being sent to them and make sure it is legitimate.

It's nice to see these two together to put the memories of fallen Americans first and Ground Zero and later in a forum to address National Service. Let us remember all the community organizers at heart that went to help after this tragic event as well.

It would appear that Obama is the one to reach across the divide. Especially, the day after that hateful Republican Nazi Convention ended.

    Very Presidential, Mr. Obama.
