Gov. Sarah Palin arrived back in Alaska on Wednesday night.
Gov. Sarah Palin arrived back in Alaska on Wednesday night.

(CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says she "didn't blink" when Sen. John McCain offered her the Republican vice presidential nomination and is confident she could handle the duties of president if necessary.

"I answered him yes, because I have the confidence in that readiness and knowing that you can't blink," Palin told ABC News in her first interview since accepting the No. 2 slot on the GOP ticket.

"You have to be wired in a way of being so committed to the mission, the mission that we're on - reform of this country and victory in the war. You can't blink. So I didn't blink then even when asked to run as his running mate," she said.

If you think Palin is being treated unfairley because of this interview you are sexist!

Susan - Canada   September 12th, 2008 9:55 am ET

To anyone who thinks Charlie Gibson was unfair in asking her about the Bush Doctrine....you're right....I bet almost all of your average citizens don't know what it is...I'm a Canadian and have never heard of it..... but I'm not and neither are the average citizens, RUNNING FOR VICE-PRESIDENT (if she's so smart, etc., and in politics, should she should not have known what it was?).

Linda   September 12th, 2008 12:55 am ET

OMG! People will fall for this woman because of her beauty? You think you will defend Georgia because Georgia NATO member.

This really proves how low IQ Palin is. Russia is also NATO member.
You think other NATO members will join you to have another war?
This is called foreign policy. And Palin, you just get a "F".

Independent   September 12th, 2008 12:26 am ET

She is clueless. I guess you can't cram the whole world in your head in a couple of weeks. McCain is reckless for putting this woman up next for president.

Hillary Supporter, definately voting for Obama   September 12th, 2008 12:21 am ET

I guess all the running this past couple weeks is taking the toll on her. I thought she looked like she needed a make over. Her hair looked greasy or over sprayed; but then she did see her son off to war today.

She kept saying "Charlie" which irritated me. I kept having the feeling that I was listening to a Beauty Pageant Contestant answering her questions for the competition. Like she was struggling to get the answer, & got a subject that she didn't have a clue about.

She did worse than I thought she would do. I'm really concerned if McCain wins. So glad to see others that are expressing the same concerns I'm having. She's no "Hillary."

Don't tell my husband though, because he is a die-hard Republican & thinks she did ok.

Melissa Petoskey, MI   September 12th, 2008 12:12 am ET

WOW. I had seen highlights of the interview earlier tonite. Some of the stuff sounded like Obama's foreign policy views, some sounded made up. So she's saving the big guns for the debate with Biden, right? Because if this is all she can bring to the table, she is as sure as doomed October 2nd.

E.C.Coleman   September 12th, 2008 12:10 am ET

OF Course Palin didn't hesitate to accept the VP Candidacy! She's so on target and quite obviously more qualified than Obama, the Presidential candiate. Governor Palin shocked the country, and it was a Good Thing to see Senator McCain ask her to be on his ticket. She's a natural and highly movtivated and a breath of Fresh Air.... As a bonus, Obama has EGG ON HIS FACE...........Ha Ha Ha HA!!! Obama is so UNQUALIFIED AND SO UNEXPERIENCED for the JOB!

John B   September 12th, 2008 12:08 am ET

WOW. You could see her inexperience and struggles right out of the gate....

She couldn't answer the "task from God" question at all b/c she was caught with her own words later on, and she's talking about war with russia, attacking Iran if Israel says so without second guessing them, and challenging Pakistan's borders by doing whatever it takes no matter what?

She has no idea what to do......

Ana   September 12th, 2008 12:07 am ET

What is going on in this country? Is it only educated people who can see that this lady has less than two months to learn about what is going on OUTSIDE ALASKA!!!!
She knows NOTHING about what is going on in the world, she probably doesnt even know who the president of Russia is until this past week!!!
CAN YOU AMERICANS REALLY BELIEVE THAT SOMEONE CAN LEARN ABOUT WORLD AFFAIRS IN 55 OR SO DAYS???

Can you people really see this lady talking about anything with the president of Russia, Iran,N. Korea,France, Germany or anywhere besides Wasilla!!!!!
UNBELIEVABLE.....

Anna PA   September 12th, 2008 12:03 am ET

Jeremy. Did you watch that interview? I bet a well informed high school student could debate Palin and have a good chance of winning the debate.

You really think she is capable for the job? She most likely would never become president but why would anyone take that chance. She is in no way even close to being up for the task for V.P. Don't you think being familiar with The Bush Doctrine would be important, for as much as she talked about war!

Paul   September 12th, 2008 12:01 am ET

The worm has turned. The Rep.s are now turning on each other...some can't run fast enough from the McCain/Palin ticket. The party's over....literally!

JN   September 12th, 2008 12:00 am ET

I have to say this...Why do the Repubs pick on the Dems when you never explain real reasons why she is the better candidate..all you do is start up on Obama...If you like her views as repubs fine..but you also have to respect peoples views that don't agree with you...I'm tired of you making fun of the democrats and saying wer are nasty but you never have anything about her to back up your claims. She was terrible in the interview...that was the truth..I don't want her running this country at all. I love Barack's judgement and ability to lead...If John McSame had this same ability, Pailn would never have been brought to this ticket...and that is no lie!!!

Gina   September 12th, 2008 12:00 am ET

I am appalled by McCain's pick of this totally unprepared woman to be the VP – it is pathetic. But I am also outraged at the Republican strategy of using this woman as a pawn in their game. She is being a "good soldier", but is clearly being used (and doesn't seem to even be aware of that) and is so out of her leaue it is laughable. I used to have some respect for McCain, but he has moved into the Bush/Cheney/Rove camp – do whatever you need to win – don't think about what is best for our country. I hope that the majority of Americans in this country realize that this is another cheap thick by the Repubs and I hope the joke isn't on us.

I envision a United States in perpetual war if someone with this lack of judgment is allowed to take office.

Americans, please don't let that happen. The world is truly watching – especially your closest friend and ally, Canada.

Jenna   September 11th, 2008 11:56 pm ET

This is turning point time folks. Will America progress or will we be run by the those who mock education, knowledge and intelligence? Will this election be the start of America's Dark Ages?

This woman will be heartbeat away from the Presidency – she has been out of the country one time. She forced woman in her town to pay for rape kits, she doesn't know a thing about world events.

Come on people – the future of America is at stake here. This isn't a cutsy reality show. This is our reality.

Any woman who votes for this woman because "she is just like me", "She has kids like me." or for any other inane reason should hang her head in shame.

Honorable Kansas Vet   September 11th, 2008 11:55 pm ET

Why should she have hesitated, its her one and only shot at the national spot light.

SLM   September 11th, 2008 11:55 pm ET

I'd just like to point out that Obama picked his running mate based on who he thought could best help him to run the country (he said this on David Letterman last night) and McCain picked his running mate based on who would help to energize the republican base (which he couldn't do alone to save his life). When I heard this it made my choice perfectly clear who I was going to vote for. Obama-Biden. Obama's choice to me said that he cared about running this country and doing what was best for the country whereas McCain's choice said to me that he only cared about getting his base enthusiastic and to hell with the rest of us outside his base (which as a Moderate Independent I am not a part of).

Yikes   September 11th, 2008 11:54 pm ET

To bad she didn't have her teleprompter.
It's NU-CLEAR not NUCULAR!!!
I can't take 4 more years of this!!!

Steve (Hillary Supporter and Now for Obama)   September 11th, 2008 11:53 pm ET

Having served in the USAF on a SAC base and after viewing the Barraccuda/Maverick it would appear she doesn't know one thing about foreign policy. Open your eyes people! She's not confident, she's cocky. When she was asked to be the VP and didn't "blink", what she didn't blink.! This decision should have taken some thought. We don't need Cowboy Diplomacy and we don't need trigger happy Politicians to run this country. War is horrible, but if we start an escalation which involves NUKES, you don't have to worry about reform. Palin is a nut! You vote for her and you have now turned the midnight clock to 30 seconds and counting. Democrats stay strong, if you were going to vote for Hillary then vote for Obama. Palin is no Hillary and Replublicans if she is so confident, so Maverick, why won't she be going on her own to campaign! She is scripted, rehearsed and too automatic. She reminds of a female "Frank Burns" from Mash 4077th and anyone who watched Mash knows what happened to Frank!

Edilia Martinez Reyes   September 11th, 2008 11:52 pm ET

I came to this country when I was 19 years old and I am proud to call myself a Cuban American .
Living in this country for 37 years I have learned something that the people from my country don't know and don't have which is "liberty and freedom of speech", something that a lot of people in this great nation take for granted.
I support John Mc Cain because he can be the one who can preserve the democracy and freedom in this great nation.

Andy   September 11th, 2008 11:51 pm ET

Why? Sarah... WHY??? All you had to do when McCain ask you, was to utter 4 simple words:

"Thanks, but No Thanks!"

SLM   September 11th, 2008 11:47 pm ET

Of course she didn't. She's offered a chance to be the first woman VP and to be a heartbeat away from the President ... what woman in politics wouldn't turn down that opportunity?? Does that mean that she is qualified though?? Hell no. This woman scares the hell out of me and I don't want her & McCain running this country.

barnabusb   September 11th, 2008 11:46 pm ET

Palin is WAY hotter than Biden. That's why she has about 70% of the CNN headlines all to herself.

Beth   September 11th, 2008 11:45 pm ET

Wow! She was worse than I expected...I really thought/hoped she was going to do well and be knowledgeable on foriegn affairs. very disappointing.

Can McCain please pick a new candidate? Someone who has met at least one foreign leader? Or someone who knows the Bush Doctrine? Or someone who understands Russian politics?

Edward   September 11th, 2008 11:43 pm ET

Don't worry, there is plenty of time to review your American History, like the Bush Doctrine. That is not a consideration of personality, it is a consideration of lack of intellectual curiosity about recent changes in American foreign policy. It is also a consideration of the lack of thought put in by McCain into his impulsive decision. Lincoln Chafee is right.

Dylan   September 11th, 2008 11:37 pm ET

Did ANYBODY see the part of the interview where she didn't know what the Bsh Doctrine is? This is no longer a cute, funny story. This is authentically unsettling.

Ken, Plano, TX   September 11th, 2008 11:35 pm ET

This is a distraction. This election is not about Mrs. Palin.

McCain is using her to avoid confronting substantive issues and critical questions. He should be the one facing the hard questions. Instead, he hides behind his running mate. Some hero.

I am dismayed by the prospect of anyone who would make a snap decision about accepting the vice presidency working in the White House.

Pepper   September 11th, 2008 11:34 pm ET

So now instead of picking the best we have to offer,we pick whats best to get us elected! this is what america has reduced itself to. then we get on t.v. an lie about it. and the kicker is – THE AMERICAN PUBLIC ALLOWS IT. and mostly because the government works against an INFORMED AMERICAN PUBLIC. its in the governments interest to keep the american public uninformed. so when they vote, they vote for some one like sarah palin.

Everyday I see our Military benefits going away. I think that we are in need of a change.

Former Democrat   September 11th, 2008 11:27 pm ET

Yes, she did seem hesitant and scripted at times. But listen to Obama. When he speaks without a teleprompter, he constantly hesitates and stumbles. And, no, he is not gathering his thoughts. From the comments I see here, it is obvious that way too many Democrats are vicious and mean spirited and go way beyond the bounds of decency. I guess freedom of speech only goes one way. Let's all be civil here.

Kris   September 11th, 2008 11:27 pm ET

Well – let's ALL actually THINK about this -
IS Obama READY to lead our country – THINK NOT NOT NOT!

Julianne   September 11th, 2008 11:27 pm ET

You can't "cram" for the vice presidency. You can't "cram" to be an expert on foreign policy. You can't "cram" to be well versed in the economy. You can't "cram" on a host of any number of issues that are required to successfully lead.

I don't buy the arguement that she can be tutored and be ready for the vice presidency. That may work as mayor, or as governor of a lightly populated state, or a fry cook at Dennys, but not the vice presidency.

Scott   September 11th, 2008 11:26 pm ET

Palin- Bush with lipstick???? No not even that... just a weak uninformed governor from a state with a population less then Tucson,AZ. and it shows.

Jakc   September 11th, 2008 11:26 pm ET

The comments here from the obama group are really negative -

Comment from the UK.
What happened to the analysis? When Ms Palin couldn't understand the question "What do you think of the Bush Doctine" – The CNN commentators seemed to say 'Well, Okay – who would really know the answer to that sort of question"
Hey guys, this person is the potential VP of the most powerful country on earth, one step away from the Presidency.
If this sort of 'Give me a hint' response from Palin is not worth some concern to you, it certainly to the rest of us.

Sue in MI   September 11th, 2008 11:23 pm ET

I read somewhere that she will be unavailable to the press after this interview. Nice, Republicans....make sure we have no clue what this woman would do with control of the budget, the nuclear (yes, Sarah, it is pronounced NEW CLEE AR, not nucular...daddy Bush says it wrong too) button, education, the economy...my goodness, you need more than gubernatorial experience to run this country-that's why most of our successful Presidents have law degrees. People who graduate from law school can actually read and understand laws and the Constitution before they sign anything. I think education is far more important than the little executive experience they are touting for this woman.
She didn't answer one question-just keep repeating the three mantras they taught her, over and over. She really isn't very bright, I don't think.

Bellamy   September 11th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

I think she needs to learn some humility and obviously doesn't yet appreciate the magnitude of the responsibility she is running for. To say she has no doubts at all is scary as we've all had doubts about taking big steps even when we knew it was the right thing to do. Frankly, I found that kind of "absolutely no doubts" response somewhat dehumanizing, offputting and more than a little scary when you consider the radical fanaticism and lack of humility it takes to say that in her positioin.

DS   September 11th, 2008 11:18 pm ET

Palin should have said to McCain; Thanks, but no thanks to the VP position. Now, all of her family and personal business is being aired all over the world. We are only hearing from Palin are statements/comments written by the McCain campaign. Palin claims that she doesn't like women to whine in politics then she should quit being a puppet and only say what is scripted for her to say. This makes her look weak and incompetent. Remember, first impressions last and the impression that I have of her is low. Clinton supporters should be highly insulted. Clinton campaigned for 18 months and generated her own supporters. Now, Palin feels that she is entitled to those supporters when she didn't do the work to get them. Palin has been on the McCain campaign for two weeks, and people still don't know anything about her other than she can read, lie and isn't talking or speaking for herself. That's it in a nutshell. So far, I would give Palin a failing grade.

Andy   September 11th, 2008 11:17 pm ET

So since everyone was giving her a hard time for asking – What exactly does a VP do everyday, you would think they'd have taught her all about VP's now.

And today she says.. I'm sure several VPs in history would not have ever met a foreign head of state before being elected. ehhh.... wrong! Atleast not in the last 30 yrs.

No wonder they had trouble selling the jet, it was probably full of rust. Stop comparing yourself to a woman of the world like Hillary.

Please step down Sarah, this ain't the PTA.

Leah DiMarco, Texas   September 11th, 2008 11:17 pm ET

Bill Charlotte,NC   September 11th, 2008 11:15 pm ET

To be asked to be the Vice President, potentially the President of the most powerful country in the world and you don't pause... you are not confident; you are either narcisistic or a self-absorbed opportunist.

As an evangelical Chrictian, this gave me as much pause as anything. I find this difficult to believe. This is troubling because if she makes other major decisions with this much thought, this country could be in serious trouble with her as commander in chief.

JB   September 11th, 2008 11:13 pm ET

She should have hesitated. She should have realized that the country would be better served with someone with the vision to be successful, who received the nomination, not on the basis of her sex and the electorate she could attract, but because she was the absolute best candidate to help the country get on the right track.

I think she showed poor judgement in terms of what is truly best for the country.

Debby   September 11th, 2008 11:13 pm ET

The comments here are really funny. Your liberals must be really nervous because your replies like her mouth moving and nothing coming out is the only thing you can debate with. The forum with McCain and Obama was almost word for word so how are these candidates actually different other than Obama raising taxes to pay for his tax cuts now that makes alot of sense.

Ann   September 11th, 2008 11:12 pm ET

She is a very frightening lady! Americans need to pay attention to this response. We don't want a President or Vice President who "doesn't blink....that is a knee jerk reaction and that can affect one's judgement to blow us off the face of the earth by attacking countries because she feels she has received a message from God. How is this thinking any different than suicide bombers and terrorists. I'm sure they are so driven they would use the same kind of thinking process. THis woman should never be so close to the top as to be making decisions on our behalf. People wake up.

Also, she needs to be interviewed alone, non scripted, and without Carl Rove and others guiding her. She needs to be asked about the major issues.

Not Over My Dead Body!   September 11th, 2008 11:12 pm ET

If the next president of this great nation asked you for your help in leading and protecting this nation ... what would your answer be?

Better a little inexperience in a VP than a radical, socialist, terrorist loving Prez nominee on top of the ticket.

Obama for POTUS? You must be Deef!!!

Linda Schatzer   September 11th, 2008 11:12 pm ET

Hahahha this from a woman who doesnt even know Bush's doctrine hahahahah. This woman knows nothing of foreign policy ...it is obvious now why McCain picked her. Also...yep you cant blink comment...an Alaskan paper said yesterday she uses snap judgements and gut feelings to make decisions...does not think them out...just what we need in the White House if she has to take over. This woman accepted the VP for the attention...had nothing to do with being able to take over. That Alaska paper said "no she is not no where near ready to take over the country." Wake up America.

I thought she did great tonight. Remember the expression on Senator Obama's face when Tim Russett ask Hillary to name the President of Russia. Even Lou Dobbs showed the clip on his show saying you could tell he did not know the answer. What was wrong with Charles Gibson and his attitude?

traci   September 11th, 2008 11:07 pm ET

I saw the Palin interview with Charlie Gibson.
She only gave prepared answers that she was coached on.

Who, I ask, is going to be coaching her every day in the Oval office?

This woman knows nothing about America and is not ready to lead.

McCain ought to be ashamed of himself for hiding behind this woman of no substance.

He used to be so proud…but that was long long ago.

Do we really deserve four more years of this kind of incompetent leadership and shooting from the hip instead of steady judgement?

While she can deliver speeches, I thought she was miserable in the interview. She dodged questions and quickly became defensive. I like how she immediately changed the topic when they were discussing her readiness in regards to foreign policy. She attempted to change the topic to energy policy–it was probably the first talking point she could think of to get away from her gap. I can't blame her given her international travel experience consisted of Mexico and Canada until recently. I also like how she just wouldn't answer questions. I can see why she's been kept from interviewing lately, and she clearly still needs more coaching.....

cilla   September 11th, 2008 10:59 pm ET

Ok she had no clue what the Bush doctrine was and yes many people do not, but she is going to be one heartbeat away from being president, so she should. He could have told her it was anything and she would have agreed just because Bush was involved. Just goes to show how closely aligned these two are with Bush.

I wonder Why they were hiding her. McCain need to do a better job training the new rooky. But is 2 weeks enough? You've seen the result with this interview. She did her best knowing her lack of experience and understanding of the political environement in washington to my view.
The question is how can you shake washington if you don't have a clue of what is going on there? May be shake the building.
My problem is not her point of views on issues but she needs at least 3 years of training and she is at one heart beat from being president if the 72 years old cancer survivor is to win the election.
Obama was a rooky too but see how he grows in 20 months and master almost every field of government.

I would love for CNN to play the interview that Obama did with Oriley and the one Palin did today side by side. Lets see who really went through a bias interview. Gibson was shockingly very calm and polite with Mrs. Palin. The McCain camp has no one to blame but themselves for this mess.

Lulu   September 11th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

It mystifies me that any self-proclaimed Hillary supporter could vote for McCain because of his choice of running mate. Sarah Palin is the anti-Hillary, on the opposite side of every issue. To vote McCain/Palin is an insult to everything Hillary stands for.

She's was only picked to woo female voters who don't really care about the issues and only want a female in the White House. Go ahead a vote for McCain and Palin, the "real mavericks". It will be cheaper for them to move our troops from Iraq to Russia to fight them.

lydie Oucherovitch   September 11th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

listening to the republicans it is clear that they are ready to take us in a world war
I find that more and more people are becoming too extreme in religions which lead to a very dangerous world
religion should not have a place in politic
A world war will also double as a religious war.
our country need a temperate leader, and right now it is not the republicans.

American Woman   September 11th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

Why is this called BLOG? It should be called HATE...

It wouldn't matter who the candidate is for the GOP ticket or who was chosen as the VP running mate. You exist to spew hate...

McCain is an American
Like Palin is an American
Like Obama is an American
Like Clinton is an American
Like you and I are...
when McCain elevated the players by calling them fellow Americans FIRST, that spoke volumes. But you can't listen when you already formed your opinion....You can't see the good in people when your heart is filled with hate. Do you think Obama would be proud of what is being said here? I hope not.

Sheila   September 11th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

David Gergen – I just Googled "Bush Doctrine" and got nearly 900,000 hits – and you said that really no one had heard of it. Get real Gergen, your Repuls stripes are showing way too much to call yourself a journalist.

Susan   September 11th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

The Republicans themselves called Palin a "Cocky Wacko"......enough said!

Alaska and Arizona POW for Obama/Biden   September 11th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

I am sure that she will ruin America to the ground and take all our allies away from us. Military cannot be the solution for every problem we have. Too many billions and lives losing fighting wars when we are losing our jobs.

Another "Mission Accomplished"?   September 11th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

McCain lacks judgement to make a political decision in picking Palin over what is the best available leadership available to fill the ticket. What other political factors motivate his next decisions? Obama is calm, cool, measured, thoughtful and prudent. Only one candidate demonstrates the judgement I want as President: Obama.

Joe   September 11th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Sarah Palin is certainly a politician. If she was a straight-talking Country First, reform-minded maverick, don't you think she would have answered the "yes or no" questions with a "yes" or "no" rather than repeating her memorized line four times. What was it?

"We cannot second guess the steps that Israel has to take to defend itself."

What does that mean? Political nonspeak. The question was:

"So if it felt necessary, if [Israel] felt the need to defend itself by taking out Iranian nuclear facilities, that would be all right."

YES?
NO?
POLITICIAN ?

Sydney   September 11th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

IN HER FIRST INTERVIEW.... SHE WAS HORRIBLE!!!! ABSOLOUTELY HORRIBLE!!!

SHE LOOK LIKE A DEER CAUGHT IN HEADLIGHTS...SHE WAS ON DEFENSE...LIKE SHE WAS GOING TO WAR ...ON MOST OF THE QUESTIONS SHE WAS ASKED...WHICH TELLS AMERICA YOU CAN LOOK SWEET AND ACT TOUGH...BUT SHE IS NOT READY TO BE VP AND FROM WHAT HAS COME OUT SO FAR...SHE'S NOT EVEN A GOOD GOVERNOR!!! SHAME ON YOU MCCAIN!!!!

Justin in CA   September 11th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

I was surprised at how bad she did. What is the GOP thinking about? Maybe how they get Romney back on the ticket.

Ouch

BS   September 11th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

To be honest, she is not ready yet to be 2nd in command. She's is smart but needs more time.

My own view is if Obama wins the election, I believe he should appoint Ex-Governor Huckabee who also is an Evangelical Scholar, to his cabinet in some capacity.

Phoenix   September 11th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Democrats, after seeing this interview we should thank McCain for picking Palin. I mean with all that prepping that was it. Gosh. You know what, Obama just keep talking about the issues. When you have alot of haters (so called PUMAS, Democrats for McCain/Palin, some Republicans, etc.) you must be doing something right.

Shannon   September 11th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

you post the same pro obama posters over and over again, and you ignore anyone who is against Obama. Sure, you throw one in once in awhile, but the vast majority of the posts are the typical hate filled rants by Obama robots.

Brian   September 11th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Palin has too many family problems...day after day something dreadful is linked to her and her family. This lady has a life a soap opera writer couldn't compele with. Honey, you can't handle your family, I wouldn't trust you to care for my cat!

PALIN IN 2012 !!!!!

trl   September 11th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

PALIN???? Can you say the dumbest VP choice ever? Wow. Is this the best the Republicans can do? No wonder our country is in a tailspin...the worst intellectuals of our society are running or attempting to run our country. Sarah go back to school. Choose any one of the 5 or 6 you attended and stay there.....simply a horrible interview by a horrible candidate for VP.

OBAMA GET'S IT!   September 11th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

CONSIDERING SHE DID NOT KNOW WHAT A VP'S JOB WAS A FEW WEEKS AGO AND THE FACT THAT SHE JUST RECENTLY SAID THAT SHE DID NOT THINK HE WOULD ASK HER AND HER LIMITED EXPERIENCE AND THE FACT THAT SHE HAD NEVER MET HIM BEFORE EXCEPT MAYBE ONE TIME! I THINK IT IS PROBLEM WITH HER BEING AN OPPORTUNIST THAT LED HER TO MAKE SUCH A RUSH DECISION WITHOUT BLINKING!

MOST PEOPLE THINK BEFORE MAKING MAJOR DECISIONS, WHY DIDN'T SHE? I THINK McSHAME IS ATTRACTED TO PEOPLE THAT DON'T THINK AFTER ALL THOSE ARE THE ONES HE IS PANDERING HER OFF ON. NOW AIN'T IT? YES!!!!!!

Aaron   September 11th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Oh, for crying out loud. How can she possibly be taken seriously as a candidate? She has no idea what the Bush Doctrine is, one of the biggest sea-changes in American foreign policy ever, let alone of the last 25 years. She thinks that sanding on the western tip of Alaska, peering into the distance to see a thin shadow of Russia, qualifies as foreign relations experience. Outside of Alaska she's clearly over her head – way, way over her head. Like a toddler standing at the bottom of the Mariana Trench.

Will18E   September 11th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Of course she did not hesitate. She could see a parade, and put herself right in front of it.

diane08   September 11th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

Charles Gibson: "Do you agree with the Bush Doctrine?"........................... Sarah Palin: ..............Uhhhhhh..................Errrr...................Well................Hmm??

Barbara CA   September 11th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

After the interview is anybody besides me a little frightened about Palin and the vice presidency? Learning information by rote is not the same as having the wisdom to use this information. I learned a lot of my math by rote and I can’t tell you much about 'pi' except that you can't eat it. Memorizing information is not the same as knowing how it should be used in a crisis.

Linda   September 11th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

After so much news about her, I am sick and tire of this woman.
One month ago, she was nobody and she is not capable for anything.
What on earth you people think she is able to handle a country.

If she become VP, and she doesn't do a good job. We women will lose chance forever to get into white house. I will prefer other women to get in instead of her.
Besides, I have graduate and above degree. Does that make me more qualified than her?
Republican can pay as much money as they want to make her a star. But the doesn't solve any problem we have now.
At the end, people will suffer

No Hillary = No Obama   September 11th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

That's because Palin is a doer and Obama is a talker.

HoustonIndie   September 11th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Where is the wisdom and humility in saying that you are ready for the job for which you did not know what's at stake one month prior?

She answered yes before a blink of the eye. Did she have the time to ask for God's will? Did she have the time to consult her pastor? Did she have the time to pray over it? Did she think about the implications for her children (wait, that's sexism)?

Her attitude shows an insecure, quick jump to the oppportunity before the next one in line takes over.

TyWebb   September 11th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

She didn't blink...she fell over.

Didn't hesitate? Is that like McCain "ready, fire, aim"?

I want someone that THINKS – not someone that gives knee-jerk responses.

How will she un-push that button? Will someone have to explain what it was for after she pushes it? OMG – we're in trouble.

OMG....

I cannot believe after seeing this interview that ANYONE will believe that McCain is putting COUNTRY FIRST.

The funny thing is..I use to have respect for McCain..but now..I cannot say what I really want to say – so I am going to leave it at that.

Surrealist   September 11th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

I listened to parts of her interview...
Seems like she handled her responses w/out note cards, and her responses were in line with the objectives defined in the GOP platform.

She's a powerful force–Biden is in real trouble because she is clear on the issues–and the nuts and bolts of achieving the changes desired.

Unlike the Obama generalities–her responses clearly define prirorities and actions the McCain administration expects to take to improve things in Washington.

Annie   September 11th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

McCain made a bad judgment selection in Palin, can't take it back,
too little, too late....the party's over....literally!

Jeff an Independent   September 11th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

This is the same unthinking (non-blinking) non-curious behavior our current president has exhibited. Good Lord – the woman thinks this is a "positive"? Anybody in their right mind would wonder whether he/she is qualified to lead this nation. Only somebody highly delusional wouldn't blink.

citizen Ruth   September 11th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

The first decision a presidential candidate makes is their choice for a running mate. McCain scored a big fat "F". Is this his "Harriet Meiers"?

Melly   September 11th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

Apparently McCain didn't hesitate much either....he should have as it turns out. Some Republicans are now trying to distance themselves from McCain and Palin...go figure!

Rj   September 11th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

I don't know what the Bush Doctrine is either. But then again I'M NOT RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!!!!!!
The best part is the number of ignorant comments trying to defend her!

I don't want to leave this earth yet so, NO WAY! NO HOW!
NO MCCAIN!! NO PALIN!!

Thomas B. White, Flagstaff AZ   September 11th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Do we Americans want to gain the world's respect, and resume a role of leadership, or do we want to be an international joke? Do we want healthcare coverage for all, or more obedience to the pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies? Do we want John McCain's irrational commitment to our homicidal and suicidal war in Iraq? Do we want further abuse of our civil liberties? Do we want war with Iran? War with Russia over Georgia? To have progress and avoid catratsrophe, we must elect Barack Obama. Let us show the world that we know we have stumbled badly and that we can restore our great mission as the world's leader for good. Let us not make again the mistake we made in 2000 and 2004.

I wonder how much she billed the state when she went to Iraq?

Tom in Delaware   September 11th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

I thought she did very well.

The 'Bush Doctrine' question did seem to catch her off guard IMHO, however most political pundits and none of the 'Bots even know what it is because MSM has completely ignored mention of it so as to better discredit the War in Iraq.

To ask "in what regard" was perfectly legitimate because there are so many facets to it.

Otherwise, I think she did fine and look forward to seeing more of her in interviews by other members of the press.

McCain/Palin '08

Deborah Armstrong   September 11th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

Ms. Palin's lack of a grasp of pertinent information was truly frightening. She does great when she has a script, but cannot come through when faced with actual questioning. By my count, a McCain/Palin reign would put us in at least 4 wars (Iraq, Afghanistan Iran, and Russia). A 10-year-old playing the board game Risk would know better than that! I hope everyone is truly concerned. Keep in mind, also, Mr. McCain has not ruled out reinstating the draft which, of course, would be necessary in the above scenario.

susie   September 11th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

What insights into recent Russian action she gained by living in Alaska Palin responded they're our next door neighbors and you can see Russia from land here in Alaska, an island here in Alaska.

NU-CLEAR NU-CLEAR NU-CLEAR
I can't take 8 more years hearing NUCULAR!!!

Larry   September 11th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

WOW! Let's just break down what Palin said:

1) Russia launched an unprovoked attack on Georgia.
- this is a BLATANT LIE, it is public knowledge that the Georgians attacked South Ossetia and began bombing Tsinkhali in an preemptive unprovoked strike, having in fact bombed the main hospital in the city.

2) War with Russia is an option on the table.
- is Palin diluted or just ignorant beyong comprehension? Have we not forgotten Sarah, that Russia is armed with roughly 5000 nuclear warheads?

It pains me to no end to hear all of this Russia bashing, when in fact Russia is not in anyway an aggressor. In fact, Russia had a duty ensure the peace in the region of South Ossetia, and was following the directive of a UN resolution to restore the peace and ensure the safety of Ossetians (most of whom have Russian citizenship). Also take into account the US's new missile defense system which essentially boxes in the Russians in the west, you begin to understand why the Russians could get upset.
Palin's comments regarding Russia are entirely unfounded and with regards to her proposition on war, is she attempting usher in a dreaded nuclear showdown with the Russians???

citizen Ruth   September 11th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

Lyle, it's called humility. Great leaders have some.

Palin hiding from questions

Since her Sept. 3 speech at the Republican convention, Palin has not given an interview until the ABC interview and has been working with a number of Bush White House aides on getting her up to speed on foreign and national policy.

The introduction of Palin to the Republican ticket rocketed McCain into a slight lead or dead heat in national polls over Democratic nominee Barack Obama.

Palin has so far not faced the questions raised shortly after her nomination. She has repeatedly said she shut down the infamous "Bridge to Nowhere," when in fact she was originally a supporter of it.

She has promoted herself as a governor against earmark projects, but her record does not indicate that.

Palin is also under investigation by an Alaskan ethics committee for her firing of the state's public safety commissioner for allegedly not bowing to her demands to fire her brother-in-law.

Palin has also been quiet while campaigning, and has stuck basically to the same speech she gave at the convention.

Reporters have been told by the McCain campaign that all Palin flights are to be off the record, which some reporters have objected to.

There is no word when Palin will do more interviews.

roger dowdle, lockhart, Tx   September 11th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

Palen would be even worse than bush- but remember, after demonstrating his incompetency for 4 years, bush was reelected! And most of those idiots will be voting again! Thank God for the youth vote. This is one time when the fate of america truly does rest in the hands of its youth.

I know that it may sound sexist, but she does have a family to consider!!! She is the Mommie remember? She has small children, not like Hillary. This is a mess. I cannot understand that logic in this pick. McCain looks sick and I do not believe that he is being toally honest with his health issues. Obama must win this election, this is a mess and a toal circus. Sarah go home and take care of your family. You do not represent motherhood. I would never do to my daughter what you have done to Bristol. Have you encouraged her to go to a College or University? Why would you want a 17 year old child to get married because she is pregnant? You are a poor excuse for a mother. I believe you when you said you did not hesitate, you are a selfish opportunist.

Why are people seriously thinking of voting for bush/cheney part 2?

Eugene   September 11th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Obama was referring to lipstick on a pig as related to the past eight years. None of his supporters should downgrade themselves to apply this to a person. McCain has used the same reference to persons during this campaign, e.g. Chelsea.....way out of bounds, tasteless, and untrue.

Not asking you to blink Palin.

The word is 'think'. This isn't the quarterback asking you to the prom, there are serious ramifications for the country and your family. I don't believe she considered what her acceptance of the nomination would do to her pregnant daughter in particular.

Not saying she should have said no, I'm just saying she should have considered it before saying yes.

political person: "I predict that when this election is over you people will find yourself in a minority. Obama is proving just how unready he is for the white house by his sexist remarks and his hysteria about Palen. He needs to get down to issues and cut the attacks by his people against Palen. The way he is going he is giving the election to the republicans."

You're argument might be more effective if you could get the name of the person you're supporting correct. Palin. Not Palen.

She struggled in what I thought was a powderpuff interview with some easy questions. Not impressed.

independent now   September 11th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

This is the way I look at this situation. Hilary was my choice, Obama I dont think is ready. McCain is without a doubt vetted. Now I am an ex Dem. I dont beleive in alot of what the republicans stand for. But If Sara Palin in the future has to fill McCains shoes, I look at it this way, shes more qualified than Bush ever was, or Cheny or Obama. She at least has a level head, and thinks before she acts. I think she will be just fine.

Franky B.   September 11th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

That interview was great (for the Democrats), I can only hope there are more like it. Can we honestly believe that she doesn't know the Bush Doctorine, yet meant to quote Lincoln when referring to God's will at her church? Riiiight.
And she's equipped to deal with a possible Russian threat because you can see part of Russia from part of Alaska? Is she planning to put up a big telescope over there or something?
Biden may consider himself a lesser choice due to the fact that he wasn't the politically expediate one. Obama would be having an easier go if he went with Hillary just to lock up votes rather than Biden who was a choice meant to help bolster qualifications and bring experience. Palin was a choice meant to bring in the religious right and all their frevor and to secure their backing and money. The new shine will wear off soon enough. No wonder they've kept her away from questions.
Anyone who compares this interview to any that Obama has done can't tell the difference between considering your answers and reguritating them.

Eugene   September 11th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

Shouldn't one pause a moment to consider one's family and personal readiness for any major new endeavor? Not blinking comes AFTER we think. Having had a leader who acts from the gut for eight years, we could use leaders who pause, even momentarily, before acting. Her total reversal of the meaning of her 2006 speech about Iraq and then attributing her words to Lincoln was truly astounding.

Did she do bad?? I practically don't care because quite frankly, she couldv'e open her mouth a little earlier. And she seems like she likes to talk, I don't know what's the problem. But I'll have to say that I don't think she's a bad communicator, I'm sure she knows what she wants to say. But ohh well, she believes that God sent out a mission to our troops and unfortunately, God didn't send no mission to Palin...

Trung M. Tran   September 11th, 2008 9:41 pm ET

Cocky, happy triggered, inexperienced leader may lead our nation into another regrettable experience beyond 2008. If we want another experimental, untested trial or hormonal enhancement to booster in virtual world then be warned of potential ramifications.

RYAN kr Jr   September 11th, 2008 9:40 pm ET

We don't need photo -ops and politicians using Iraq war to enhance their credentials. Period, Sarah Palin is NOT ready to be VP; many of us, families and friends have served or still serving in the military–we don't publicize it and use it for political propaganda.

Susan   September 11th, 2008 9:38 pm ET

Didn't know that Fannie/Freddie aren't tax-payer funded.
Doesn't know what the Bush doctrine is.
Saber-rattling about war with Russia.
Prounounces Iraq "Eyeraq"

Sarah Palin just flat out isn't up to the task. Period.

shannon   September 11th, 2008 9:38 pm ET

I am so so so so scared of Sarah Palin. She has no idea at all how to run a country. You can tell that her interview w/Charlie Gibson was scripted. He ask her questions and she couldn't answer them. She didn't even know what the Bush Doctorine was. You would have thought that would have been one of McCain's advisor's things to teach this woman. Matt Damon is so right, she is scary. This woman is out of control.

I thought I could actually feel Palin, but no way no how. I surely can't endorse this ticket. I am a republican and I can't. I was already leaning Obama I know now I am a straight Obama supporter now. She ain't no HRC.

Alex   September 11th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

I've been to Canada and Mexico too!!! Can I be VP?

james   September 11th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Yes, I was definitely reminded of the Miss Teen South Caroline video. I really understand why McCain has been guarding her for the last few weeks. He needs to do it a few more weeks for sure. Boy, if I was a little afraid before, I'm shaking now. This woman could be our president? I used to be skeptical of her because I"m for Obama, but partisanship aside, I am very afraid of what could happen if Obama loses.

Jarrod   September 11th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

I've been noticing this odd non-objective pandering to Palin by CNN and other News outlets- come on Press- she's not a darling, she's not throwing a fundraiser to replace the roof on the library she tried to ban books from, she's a 20-month Governor, green and wet behind the ears, and NOT yet proven to speak capably and in depth or detail on the important issues ahead of us. She wrapped in sound bites and glib rhetoric- get past the 'woman' in the running, and do you job- test her metal, and make her prove she's qualified to have that contest with Russia. I don't think she is, but don't lie down like you did with GW in 2000- he didn't even know the name of the President of Iran then, andlook where that blind following landed us! DO your job, earn that constitutional protection.

Ken   September 11th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

It took Palin a week to get ready for this one interview and she thinks she ready to be President ? HELL-O ? How crazy is that? To SCARY FOR ME !

Michael   September 11th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

Amazing. Have you ever seen a campaign reel this badly at the announcement of a VP?

Hahahahahaha!

Your venom betrays your terror. Up with McCain/Palin, down with Obama/Biden.

RYAN kr Jr   September 11th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

Fake Barraccuda...You 're not ready to be VP.

Rich   September 11th, 2008 9:34 pm ET

Sorry Sarah, Senator McCain asked you to be his choice for Vice President of the United States, not go to the Homecoming dance with him. This requires some hesitation and forethought. Making a decision without all of the facts is how we got into Iraq in the first place.

Craig   September 11th, 2008 9:33 pm ET

Hey democrats on this chain – 300 odd messages slamming Gov. Palin. Not one explaining why Sen. Obama is a good choice for President.

Kyra   September 11th, 2008 9:30 pm ET

It's appears she is getting cliff notes to foreign affairs. So we are going to fight everyone who may step on your shoes...Where are we going to get the soldiers to fight the entire world?? It appears that Bush's people need to give her the ABCs of foreign affairs before putting back on display.

mike   September 11th, 2008 9:30 pm ET

They left out the part where she said "I'm not really sure what the Vice President does". Watching McCain and Obama tonight, it is so obvious that Sarah Palin is in over her head. Call her a maverick, barracuda or whatever you want, at this point in her career, she would be a liability as VP.

Obama POTUS   September 11th, 2008 9:27 pm ET

And yet, one month ago she was interviewed, and asked if she was offered the vice presidency slot, would she take it...she said no. In that same interview (Kudlow & Co.), she also stated she didn't know what the vice president even did. Scary indeed.

The most confident people are those whose ambition out weighs their grey matter. This seems to be the case with Ms Palin who may not know how stupid she looks mouthing words she doesn't understand.

Independentandlovingit   September 11th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

Back to reality. Of the 50 states, Alaska ranks No. 1 in taxes per resident and No. 1 in spending per resident. Its tax burden per resident is 2 1/2 times the national average; its spending, more than double. The trick is that Alaska's government spends money on its own citizens and taxes the rest of us to pay for it. Although Palin, like McCain, talks about liberating ourselves from dependence on foreign oil, there is no evidence that being dependent on Alaskan oil would be any more pleasant to the pocketbook.
Alaska is, in essence, an adjunct member of OPEC. It has four different taxes on oil, which produce more than 89% of the state's unrestricted revenue. On average, three-quarters of the value of a barrel of oil is taken by the state government before that oil is permitted to leave the state. Alaska residents each get a yearly check for about $2,000 from oil revenues, plus an additional $1,200 pushed through by Palin last year to take advantage of rising oil prices. Any sympathy the governor of Alaska expresses for folks in the lower 48 who are suffering from high gas prices or can't afford to heat their homes is strictly crocodile tears.
As if it couldn't support itself, Alaska also ranks No. 1, year after year, in money it sucks in from Washington. In 2005 (the most recent figures), according to the Tax Foundation, Alaska ranked 18th in federal taxes paid per resident ($5,434) but first in federal spending received per resident ($13,950). Its ratio of federal spending received to federal taxes paid ranks third among the 50 states, and in the absolute amount it receives from Washington over and above the amount it sends to Washington, Alaska ranks No. 1.

Shame on you, John McCain for putting America in a dangerous position with this novice Palin. That's not putting country first.

She really should have hesitated. I truly believe hat she made a clear choice of bringing her child with a disability that will effect him throughout his life, it was a courageous choice, I commend her for choosing to keep her child. God bless her! However, I do not agree with her dropping the ball on him. That child needs his mother and her guidance and her coice to keep her baby was a commitment that she has decided to put on the back burner for the advancement of her political career. I think she made a huge mistake and could have stayed in Alaska working from home like she has for so long and caring for this wonderful child and giving him the attention he requires and will continue to require for years to come. I have a family member with down syndrome and trust me, he needs a lot of care and attention. I say, shame on you Sarah for making half of a commitment.

Governor Palin is much more ready to be president than Obama. He doesn't even have the qualifications to be VP! :)

Obama has no governing experience, and has a paper thin resume. He is an extreme left-wing guy selected by the media and the democratic party. His world view clashes with mainstream America!

Obama is the naecissistic, arrogant egomaniac with the extreme views that are way out of touch with mainstream Americans! :(

I am a former democrat and Hillary supporter who will vote for McCain/Palin! They will deliver the authentic reforms Americans can believe in and do it with integrity! :)

Concerned Alaskan   September 11th, 2008 9:19 pm ET

Not to mention both Palin and our Lt. Governor (Sean Parnell) are now running for national office. In my alaskan opinion it was a poor choice for both of our state's top officials to put their personal careers before the state adn therefore before our nation.

Is that the kind of VP we are looking for? I hope not!

If the election was for a Stepford wife...don't blink Sarah...you're hired. Forget the scripts and teleprompters, address America's concerns.

Remember McCain/Palin "welcomed the fight", don't yell sexism in the middle of it.

tnbubba   September 11th, 2008 9:16 pm ET

Hey libs,

Keep attacking her. CNN, keep mentioning that she "only" has 8 years of executive experience, (and pretend Obama is the supremely qualified, read:laughable, candidate). Keep trashing this woman. I love it. Every time you trash her, an angel gets its wings, and McCain-Palin get a vote. The Dems have been beaten at their own game of shine and glitter and are just beside themselves, and all you can do is attack her, because your horse has run out of gas.

First rule of politics: When you're in a hole, stop digging!!!

I love it.

Sarah Palin supported teen pregnancy and lighter punishment for convicted pedophiles when she was mayor of Wasilla. Look into it folks. The truth is coming out.

We claim to fight unworldly, uniformed, insane religious radicals yet we keep sending them to represent us in Washington!

NC Girl   September 11th, 2008 9:13 pm ET

This woman is extremely power driven. She should be able to work and further her career and no one say that she is a bad mother, but before you do major moves you should take in consideration of how it affects your family. She did not do that because me as a mother would never have put my daughter in the spot light the way she did. I am struggling with the thought of getting a part time job because I feel that I should be home to make sure that my son is taken care of, but to be a vice president is not leaving a lot of time to take care of family.

And yes she will be more than willing to start a war of hit the button from the way she sounded in the interview and it saddens me that people are too blind to see where the country would go with her in office with McCain. I am scare!

RyanD.   September 11th, 2008 9:13 pm ET

She had no idea what the Bush Doctrine was.

She said her foreign policy experience pertains to "energy".

Obama-Biden 08'

Obama is at teacher and Americans hate school   September 11th, 2008 9:13 pm ET

For those who are stating that McCain and Palin do better at interviews than Obama, you need to look again and pay attention to the answers that he gave, not just the delivery. OK so he doesn't have a pre-programmed list of mantras to spout off to cover up what he doesn't know. He doesn't need that because he actually knows the answers to reporter's questions. He can and has shown exceptional knowledge and understanding of American and world issues, just like his running mate Joe Biden.
Just because you can understand McCain's or Palin's answers does not make them right. Sometimes their answers are not even pertinent responses to the questionsasked. Sometimes they answer before the question is even asked. They both have a narrow focus that will do nothing to help America. McCain cannot see, speak, or think beyond war. Palin cannot see, speak, or think beyond Alaska. How is that going to help America?

Jan in MI   September 11th, 2008 9:12 pm ET

I watched this interview too, and could not believe it.

She is so not ready to be V.P., and especially not President of the United States of America.

But she didn't even blink, of course she is ready.

SCARY

Richard Hohn   September 11th, 2008 9:12 pm ET

She is a woman of faith. Her faith is the reason for her involement in politics. She will do anything, say anything to promote her personal crusade for Jesus! She is as a terrible a threat as any suicide bomber or other radical individual that puts their person religious beliefs ahead of all other factors. I cannot stress this enough that she and her cohorts are the real threat to true democracy and social progress of the mankind. The fact that she was plucked from non-existence to the forefront of political forum by the backers of the GOP should alarm everyone.

Chris   September 11th, 2008 9:11 pm ET

Oh great...just what we need. Another leader with the "Shoot! Ready! Aim!" mentality. We would not want a leader to be thoughtful about major decisions. This candidate does not seem to display the traits of solid judgement. She didn't even think about it? Didn't discuss the job with her family? She is not my candidate at all.

Rebecca   September 11th, 2008 9:11 pm ET

Not one word about the issues. Just a lot of folksy nonsense with some sucking up to "Charlie" thrown in. Jeez, how many times could she insert his name to try to create the impression of familiarity and warmth? That's just Journalism 101 from a former sportscaster. She's a talking head! Maybe she's qualified to work for ESPN–though I hear their job requirments are pretty tough–but she's certainly not ready to be VP.

community organizer   September 11th, 2008 9:11 pm ET

Is she an educated woman? What university did she go to? She needs to ask for a refund. Her english is awful!!!

jeri   September 11th, 2008 9:11 pm ET

It was soooo obvious how coached she was for this interview. She wouln't even give Charlie a straight answer. No wonder the McCain campaign has kept her away from reporters. It is truly a scary thought for not only my family but I'm sure in the rest of the world to think she could be a heartbeat away from the presidency.

Dr. B.   September 11th, 2008 9:11 pm ET

She DOES NOT HAVE A CLUE and even if you gave her a quarter,
she would not KNOW to buy one. This woman is an insult to all of the
women throughout this country who have worked to get an education and raise families. I have a PhD and I know so much but I also KNOW that I do not have the knowledge that I would need in order to serve my country to the best that it requires AND I am a winner of many awards. She is NOT smart or wise nor should she be in this position. If she were she REALLY INTELLIGENT SHE would have known that SHE IS NOT QUALIFIED AT ALL. IT TOOK HER SIX YEARS AND SIX SCHOOLS TO GET A BASIC DEGREE FROM COLLEGE. OH MY GOODNESS. Being a mother is not enough.
She is a guilty of HUBRIS at best. I pray that the GOD I know will notice how absurd this process is and will help the American Citizens to notice that she is NOT PURE of Heart NOR is she even remotely qualified to serve as either VP or P. I think McCain is cynical and with his 7 homes must think Americans are foolish. I think people will know that he is NOT THEM. Good luck and God HELP us all.

Lucy   September 11th, 2008 9:10 pm ET

A reckless decision by both Palin and McCain. They say it's important to understand your own limitations....

Kay   September 11th, 2008 9:10 pm ET

This is for all of the "former Hillary Clinton Supporters" now supporting McCain/Palin. Please, please, please stop insulting the real HIllary Supporters. You were never a Hillary supporter you were a supporter of her gender. If you truly believed in Hillary's stance on the issues you could never vote for Palin. She is the exact opposite of everything Senator Clinton has fought for. Stop using the excuse she's not on the ticket, so you won't vote for Obama. It's obvious you don't really care about issues, you just want a female on the ticket. I would have loved Senator Clinton on the ticket or any qualified woman on the ticket. However, we have Senator Biden, a man who is more than qualified to be vice president. Stop using Senator Clinton's absence on the ballot as an excuse.

democrat4life   September 11th, 2008 9:10 pm ET

Okay,
A little political world history here, this woman is like Isabel Peron (yes the Argentine Vice President who became President when her husband past at 73 years of age back in 1974). Here's what they have in common: both are political novices, don't have a clue about foreign polcy, and both were thrust into power during a time of economic turbulance.
But, the most striking resemblence between Isabelita and Sarita is the fact that these two women have nothing in common with the two women they try to emulate.
Isabella you never were Evita and Ms. Palin (Baracuda, Moose, Fish, Animal, mineral, whatever) You are no Hillary and you never will be!.
Say it loud everybody! NO McCain, No Palin, No way!. This election, our future is too important for Beauty contests, shell game politics.

Jack   September 11th, 2008 9:08 pm ET

Dan   September 11th, 2008 9:07 pm ET

Being mayor of a town with a population of around 5,000, and governor of a state with a population of about 600,000 does not in my view qualify one to be leader of the free world. It's like having the manager of a convenience store to take over General Electric.

sb   September 11th, 2008 9:07 pm ET

She didn't hesitate because she doesn't think. She admitted she didn;t know what the VP did. That shows me a lack of thoughtfullness and a knee-jerk reaction to image over substance.

Thanks, but no thanks–I want someone more intelligent than that running the country.

She seemed a litlle more intense, perhaps nervous
but she was very fortright and no hesitation was evident.

McCain's bold move of picking Palin for his VP motivated me to take a bold and decisive step. I promptly requested my absentee ballot from my home state of Ohio and mailed it off. I sincerely do believe there was a definate attempt to trip up Governor Palin regardless of what some of the fine people on here think....the Russian question was an extremely complex queston and generally according to protacal America must back up Nato. By claiming Palin said we're going to war with Russia honestly folks I think you know such a claim is most unfair.

John   September 11th, 2008 9:02 pm ET

Palins Interview with NBC shows she has no clue what she is talking about, a beauty queen trying to be President.

Isn't not blinking and thus not taking a moment to think about what we are doing and the consequences of our actions the root of why we've gotten into such a mess in the first place?

Jim in Orlando   September 11th, 2008 9:00 pm ET

Our enemies know that they need to fear someone who isn't afraid to drop a moose more than someone who, in the case of the Russian invasion of Georgia, advises that "both sides need to pull back". A few more Americans seem to be getting it every day too !

John   September 11th, 2008 9:00 pm ET

I'm still waiting for Palin to show why she's so "great" and "dynamic." It's not her job to be fabulous; if it were, I might vote for her for Homecoming Queen, not Vice President for 72-year-old McCain. Why should I vote for someone with no legal or economic education? If you are tempted to vote emotionally, I refer you to the current Republican gut-checking "decider."

We haven't heard any ideas...just derision. Her handlers feel she's being too victimized by the press to answer our questions. She's hiding, and I want to know why. She's holding the press–and us–hostage until we all behave ourselves and stop being so mean. What a despicable strategy.

Restore trust in government when they've been in charge for 8 years and caused this mess?

How 'bout a new slogan? Vote for us! We're against us!

You MUST take time to blink when dealing with complicated issues. It is called THINKING while you are reacting and responding. You don't just do the first thing that pops in your head or jump the first suggestion you get. YOU STOP THINK LISTEN AND THEN YOU MAKE YOUR BEST MOVES.

Joe Public   September 11th, 2008 8:58 pm ET

Palin's careless statements about possible war with Russia were incredibly dangerous and provocative that will further destroy our ability as citizens of the US to engage diplomatically and economically with other countries around the world. How can a woman who has never even traveled let alone served in any diplomatic role be so confident making these statements that put us all at risk? If the Russian relationship further deteriorates because of these reckless statements and the threat of nuclear cold war comes back – do you really want Palin in the Oval office?

I am a businessman who this morning had a terrific call with Russians in Moscow. Russia is filled with great people who love Americans and are clinging to capitalism and democracy. Has Palin ever even met a Russian?

McCain is better than Bush but for the good of our country and our children – PLEASE do not back him because Palin is too much of a risk.

Salt/Pepper   September 11th, 2008 8:57 pm ET

This reminded me of McCain's interview with George Stephanopulos on "This Week"...when he was asked a direct question (he didn't want to answer) he kept REPEATING an rehearsed line of non-committal rhetorice (sometimes 3 and 4 times!)

It's so obvious the bimbo can't think for herself.

One heartbeat from the Presidency folks.

And another thing...what the heck is with these folks who say "Elect McCain so Hillary can win in 2012"??? What twisted plan is that??? American will be so ruined by McCain that we'll gladly elect HRC???

Are you kidding? Wake up America!! Hillary lost, now vote OBAMA!

VJ   September 11th, 2008 8:54 pm ET

Yes! She can lead the Country very easily if Obama thinks he can lead the nation as she had more executive experience than Obama.

Go Mccain/Palin! we are there for you! Don't worry about this mad liberal bloggers. There is a whole nation of people, who doesn't blog here understand what you are capable of.

Mccain/Palin 2008.

CNN, you never post my message! May pl. post this..

Daryl   September 11th, 2008 8:53 pm ET

When is Palin running for President. One would think that according to the media McCain is not running. Palin and Obama are being compared when it should be Obama and McCain. To make things worse the media is going too easy on Palin. They should treat her like Obama and ask her tough questions too and also call her out. The interview tonight with Palin was horrible. We didn't learn anything about what her views are today; not six to seven years ago. What about the economy, housing, minority issues and issues facing common folks.

georgia   September 11th, 2008 8:53 pm ET

The segment on ABC this evening sounded & looked to be a fair recital of a tutorial with "Charlie " thrown in every 3-4 words to "appear" comfortable with the interview & interviewer .. DIDN'T WORK !!
The Repugnants keep trying to furthur the myth (=LIE). lol lol

Candy West Virginia   September 11th, 2008 8:52 pm ET

Sarah, as an Obama supporter I want to thank you right now from the bottom of my heart for showing the world what I already knew – you are sooooo not ready to be VP, Pres or anything near the WHite House! You scared the crap out of me. And sorry, but saying going to war with Russia in the same breath as saying you love your country should have frightened EVERYONE! Thanks luv, I appreciate it. Now the world knows what I already knew, john mccain is insane.

Lorna, NY   September 11th, 2008 8:52 pm ET

My 10 year old know all about the Bush Doctrine...Maybe he should have been McCains pick. What a scary world we live in..this woman is a heart beat away from the oval office.

Ed from Virginia   September 11th, 2008 8:52 pm ET

CNN: I have lost respect for you. You are so afraid that Mrs. Palin or McCain will not come on your show that you are being very careful not to criticize her. Campbell Brown interviewed McCain's spokesman two weeks ago and demanded to know what qualifications Palin has to be VP and the kid couldn't come up with an answer. CNN, did the McCain camp threaten to not come on your show since that interview? The interview she gave to Gibson was a disgrace. So CNN, if you're not going to report the news accurately, without prejudice, then you are going to lose many viewers. "The best political team on TV"...I don't think so.

Maverick Democrat For McCain / Palin 2008 !!!!

William Arizona   September 11th, 2008 8:51 pm ET

They are both hinting at a war with Russia. There is a real reason for this if you read foreign newspapers. Putin accused the Bush administration for starting the Georgian war and this is true folks, in an attempt to benefit McCain. Now the Bush administration is flexing its muscles against Iran and you will see us invade there within the next month all again to TRY to benefit McCain's candidacy. Money is a very very powerful motivator and the Republicans do not want to give up their power or their money for taxes to help anyone else.

Call me wacko? Well wait and you'll see what happens. And no I am not a liberal. I happen to read a lot and if you do too you will see and understand what is happening in our country. Follow the dollar.

I CAN HEAR IT NOW CARL ROVE AND TEAM DECLARING THE MEDIA IS EVIL FOR DARING TO QUESTION HER!

Floridian for Obama   September 11th, 2008 8:50 pm ET

Did she really say we could go to war with Russia? I believe there is a deeper reason that she said that, than just mentioning it as a far off possibility. We all know how much the repubs love war and I think that our next fight will be with the Russians. God help us all if McSAME and Palin are voted in.

Julian   September 11th, 2008 8:50 pm ET

CNN u might as well change your name to ONN (I'm sure you know what the initials stand for). You guys never seem to publish comments that take a critical look at the issue "fair and balanced" (my apologies FoxNews) especially if those comments are critical of Senator Obama and even if the comments contains no foul language but you guys don't seem to have any problems publishing comments that are pro Obama and use vile language against the candidacy of McCain-Palin. Enjoy this while it lasts; on November 4th, we the people get to decide and no amount of pro Obam comments or spin news here would alter the outcome. If the American people see him as capable, he'll be elected if not it'll be McCain making decisions in the oval office but one thing that might not return from the gutter is your image.

Mike Kaplan   September 11th, 2008 8:49 pm ET

Didn't blink? Maybe she should have.

She's NOT qualified to be President, not even close- her shallow, moronic answers tonight confirmed that. Did you hear her repeating the lines they taught her, like a parrot, or a broken record?

C'mon, people- Sarah Palin is ridiculous. And so are all of you who think she's qualified to be running this country. She's not.

dennise   September 11th, 2008 8:49 pm ET

Jahara   September 11th, 2008 8:49 pm ET

It's unfortuanate to see the anti-intellectual McCain-Palin ticket doing so well right now. It really is a tribute to how pathetic our country has become, in that Hillary supporters want to vote for McCain now that he has a woman on the ticket whom is the anti-thesis to everything Hillary stands for. We can only hope that Palin's handlers will loosen the leash on her so that the average American can actually hear how hypocritical and misguided her views are on how to run this country.

Barbara   September 11th, 2008 8:48 pm ET

Did you see where she watches herself after every interview on tape? Is that Narcissitic or not?

Big D   September 11th, 2008 8:48 pm ET

If she was so ready to accept the VP slot – why did she lie so much about her accomplishments? She lied about so many things about her past. Why? But whatever her reasons were, I'm more concerned about what this tells us about McCain's taking a risky chance and not even vetting her properly. That is unacceptable in someone who wants to be our leader. She's not ready, and he's not trustworthy.

mike   September 11th, 2008 8:48 pm ET

this woman wants to go to war with RUSSIA,oh my god if that happens you can say goodbye to sociey as we know it,dont this crazy woman realize that russia has got 8000 nuclear weapons,oh my god if you guys have got teenagers i advise you to send them to anartica because that will be the only safe place in the world when russia in the usa destroy it,thats all these peole know is war, this woman must be stopped before its to late

Katrina   September 11th, 2008 8:47 pm ET

Palin doesn't know what "the Bush doctrine" is. She supports NATO membership for Georgia and Ukraine without giving any indication that she's aware of the complexities of such an endorsement. She claims that Russias invasion of Georgia was "unprovoked". Her application for VP is ludicrous. It would be like me (lit professor, mid-40s, in questionable shape) applying for a job as fighter pilot.

EX REPUBLICAN   September 11th, 2008 8:47 pm ET

Yeah I'm a life long Republican who has suddenly turned for Obama!!! I love these poser "democrats" who say they suddenly are voting for the complete opposite of what they believe in. Ridiculous.

Harry Martin   September 11th, 2008 8:46 pm ET

They just wish that THEY had such a WOMAN, to offer!
GO McCAIN & PALIN !!!!

Charlie   September 11th, 2008 8:46 pm ET

I am an ardent Obama supporter. I know that McCain invited a lot of abuse with a VP choice that makes little sense. The Obama camp has done an outstanding job of staying out of the business of attacking personalities. I am afraid, however, that the McCain camp is looking at these blogs and attributing crude sexist personallity remarks and attributing them to the next president of the United States.

Ron, NYC   September 11th, 2008 8:46 pm ET

Did anyone watch McCain's running mate's interview with Charlie Gibson? I understand the USA to be the greatest country in the world. The press of this great country should not be bullied by these thugs. The lady knows nothing. We now know why they don't want her to go on the record. The woman is not ready to lead this country. Americans, please wake up. At least if you lack experience but can show that you have the prescience necessary to understand the issues, that's different. But if you lack experience and all you have is one speech that has been regurgitated since the republican convention, then I don't think the American people should vote for the ticket.

Reid   September 11th, 2008 8:45 pm ET

What a pathetic display of ignorance about history Miss "ready to be VP" has just shown. I guess there weren't any shots fired in Korea, Vietnam, the Middle East, or any of Central and Latin America during the Cold War. McCain will not be able to protect her from her own lack of knowledge about foreign affairs and simple world history. War with Russia over Georgia???? One 72 year old mans heartbeat from the presidency, unbelievable. Maybe if she hadn't taken 6 years and 5 schools to get her degree she would have learned something in college.

laurie lewis   September 11th, 2008 8:45 pm ET

That is the problem. She did not blink when she should have. She is woefully unprepared to be a vice president or president. She does not understand how complicated some of the foreign policy issues are. It is very obvious by her answers to Gibsons questions and he was VERY polite and very easy on her. Frankly, I felt a bit sorry for her, she was out of her element. Clearly she was coached to repeat pat answers and for that she did ok (about as good as my grandmother would do) but she doesn't have the necessary depth of knowledge. Her answers were shallow and McCain should not have chosen her.
And listen Jeremy, there is no such thing as a Democrat for McCain/Palin so please don't make up things. No true Democrat with real Democratic values would ever vote for such a far right wing agenda. Be real.

Audrey in Baltimore   September 11th, 2008 8:45 pm ET

I am a Democrat. Black and female. To me John McCain had a good agenda-excluding his stand on the War and Palin. His selection on VP is an insult to the women who could have really brought something to the table. The mudslinging really needs to stop. That does not go over well with the people who are truly concerned with getting this country back on its feet. All politicians have a greater downside then most people, We as Americans should only be interested in electing Politicians who put this country and the people first. Not their political agenda, not their personal beefs, nor their prejudices or their underhanded demeaning tactics. For real for real. ENOUGH.

Palin is not ready   September 11th, 2008 8:43 pm ET

On the interview with Charlie Gibson-I think I just saw George Bush in a dress! Wow, we sure need another moron like Bush who can only speak scripted lines and doesn't think before he acts....she is a disaster and a scary nut job. Good Lord – is this all the Republicans could come up with? For all of you saying CNN is just posting the negative comments, have you stopped to consider it is because all the comments on her performance are negative. Wake up! She is obviously unqualified and dangerously unaware of reality.

McCain has got to have regrets, especially since his own party are "ditching" Palin as quickly as they can. (To save their own hiney, I might add). He's got to be out of his mind...if course he is 73 years old. But, not to worry, "True Greit Sarah" will be waiting in the wings!

Palin is Odd   September 11th, 2008 8:40 pm ET

Typical CNN, Palin discusses her views on foreign policy...you know actual issues. Instead of posting those points, you post this fan fare crap. Typical. When did CNN become no better than people or us magazine???

Natalia MA   September 11th, 2008 8:39 pm ET

Listening to Gov. Sarah Palin's interview today felt more as she was going for a job interview. She is lacking confidence and experience. When she was asked if she is ready for VP position sounded like she was guestioning herself if she is really good enough for this country. It seems as she memorized answers to most asked questions by the media. Her view at the world is very narrow. Her answer/solution to any problem is War. On McCain's side it is was a very good strategy to select a woman. All attention is focused on Palin, and she is doing all the PR, while McCain patiently waiting for the grand finale. It is like going and selecting a book in the store by its cover and not the content.

nm_woman   September 11th, 2008 8:39 pm ET

Can anyone say LOST? Everything that came out of her mouth was FLUFF. My favorite was when Charlie asked her about the Bush Doctrine. She had that wonderful deer in headlight look.

bshah   September 11th, 2008 8:38 pm ET

The focus should be on the issues. However, I think people are just afraid of something happening to McCain and this woman being our president. Obama might not have the experience but he has a very thorough understanding of the issues. To make the right decisions you need to understand the issues. This woman has no clue about foreign policy, so the thought that she could very likely become president is terrifying to say the least. We don't need another lame duck president.

zuq   September 11th, 2008 8:38 pm ET

McCaine just said that being a mayor is the hardest job in the country. Wow, he just doesn't get it! So, it's harder than being the president? WOW!

Pucky18   September 11th, 2008 8:37 pm ET

She love our country! She is awesome!

If you dislike or hate her, then you have a problem!

She did not hurt you, she came to love you and want the best for our country and to protect our country.

Danielle Caldwell   September 11th, 2008 8:37 pm ET

I do believe she didn't blink. She didn't stop to consider her 4 month old son needing his mother. She didn't blink an eye when it cames to exploiting her sons deployment to Iraq. Neither McCain nor Biden used the photo op to extend their positions. Palin made a media spectacle of it and put her son's entire troop in the spotlight. That is what troubles me about her, she is so career driven that she doesn't give her family consideration. Maybe she should have blinked maybe once.

Dave   September 11th, 2008 8:36 pm ET

Enough CNN, enough...America deserves better than this sorry excuse for what you call news. What's the ratio of articles posted on Biden to articles posted on Palin. You're all pathetic, if I wanted to read the kind of crap you keep posting, I'd buy a tabloid.

jim   September 11th, 2008 8:35 pm ET

I can't wait until Govenor Palin introduces to the Washington cronies what the Alaska legislature has discovered. This woman uses common sense and knows how to keep unnecessary government spending under control. Does anyone really have the right experience or is good judgment the better qualifier?

Sue   September 11th, 2008 8:35 pm ET

Anybody else notice that when Gibson asked her about foreign policy, she answered him with something about Alaska's oil supplies? The answer had nothing to do with what he asked her.

She sounded nervous, her voice had a strained, taut quality to it. And yeah, it did sound very much like a job interview where she'd been coached on every answer and couldn't divert from what she'd memorized. She seemed to repeat herself a lot.

The debates should be interesting...

GLORIA CRAYTON   September 11th, 2008 8:35 pm ET

Republic concerned about the welfare of our nation.   September 11th, 2008 8:34 pm ET

At first I was impressed by Palin's speech she gave at the Convention.

However, after the recent interview she gave on ABC, I'm more than a bit disturbed. She said that she is willing to go to war with Russia! Russia! They have long-range missle technology AND they have nuclear weapons.

Is she willing to start a World War? Honestly, can any American who saw her interview really advocate starting a World War?

I mean, if we went to war with Russia, that puts China in an awkward spot. China's had friendly relations with both the USA and Russia.

Just to be clear: I have nothing against the Chinese – I lived in China for a few years and got to know the everyday people. The people their just want to live their lives and provide for their families. I don't however, agree with some of the things that their current government does. But the people there have the same concerns we folks in the United States have: family, health, and finances.

China sure the heck doesn't want a war with the USA, but if something should happen to McCain and Palin decides to goes to war with Russia, it might force China's hand. China has long range missle technolgy AND they have nuclear weapons.

A three way war would be very, very bad for all three countries. There would be heavy casualities in all countries: military and civilian!

I wanted to vote for McCain, but I wouldn't be able to sleep at night with Palin in office as well and being one heartbeat away from the Presidency. Given the circumstances, even if it is going against my tribe, I can live with Obama being President. I'm going to vote for him.

mahesh   September 11th, 2008 8:34 pm ET

True Conservative   September 11th, 2008 8:33 pm ET

Palin came across as unaware, adolescent, and unprepared. While I want to vote for McCain I am having second thoughts. Palin seems like some average lady off the street. I want my VP to be prepared, smarter than I am, and ready on day one. Palin proved today that she is not. It was clear that her answers were scripted and even then she could not deliver.

I am very disappointed. I hope those who are thinking about voting for her think very hard before they do. Try and imagine her taking the Oath of Office for the presidency of the United States. It could happen and is she the one you want taking that Oath? Can you see her doing it? Do you want America lead by her?

Kay   September 11th, 2008 8:33 pm ET

President Bush didn't "blink" and now we're at war. He didn't "blink" when the economy started taking a nose dive. HE FELL ASLEEP!

Can we afford 4 more years of the same? Can we vote for someone who proclaims her family is important yet doesn't hesitate to take a job that would essentially consume her every waking moment? Who's going to be taking care of the baby that 's in every photo op? I have no problem with working mothers but I do have a problem with anybody who says one thing yet does another. The word hyrpcrite comes to mind.

Palin's answers seem to lack a sense of authenticity, especially the responses to Isreal. Palin basically gave the same answer four times. It was too scripted and revealed a serious lack of knowledge in foreign policy for a VP candidate. McCain should have picked someone more experienced in international affairs, especially at this critical time.

I wish she had no thanks, I am not quailified. She didn't because she thinks she is qualified, after all she wanted to Miss America, didn't she? Maybe she thinks this is her chance. Loser.

Sojourner2008   September 11th, 2008 8:25 pm ET

Pleeeeease . . .let the McCain camp believe that she was great and ready for the debate with Biden. Now, that will be MUST SEE TV!!
She could not win a round with my son's high school debate team.
Does she seriously believe that her statement was the same as Lincoln's. Plus, her responses to his questions went round and around and around. . . .SHE NEVER ANSWERED THEM!

P.S. Did anyone else feel real fear following this interview?

For all you Palin bashers, please explain if Barrack is going to be our great and fearless leader, (he has already been compared to Jesus by Democratic Congressman) explain why he is letting a woman VP candidate rattle him? how is he gonna act when he is dealing with world leaders from other countries that hate Americans and are a threat to our country?? Call them Pigs with lipstick and hope he hurts their feelings??? I think you guys would have been better off to support Hillary as your Presidential candidate. I would have highly considered Hillary but Barack scares me!!!

gl   September 11th, 2008 8:23 pm ET

executive experience please you need more than that. Obama have been working in Washington for 12 years. Palin never even been to Washington.

Fairness Doctrine   September 11th, 2008 8:22 pm ET

CNN only showed the first part of Governor Palin's comments on what to do about Russian aggression. They purposely left out her comments about sanctions and diplomacy and ally involvement. CNN is losing credibility when they do this. We are OK with the partial answer as well as the full context answer. It is refereshing to get straight answers from a politician whether we agree or not.
Kudos to Palin.

Be fair or you will lose more than an election!

Xavier   September 11th, 2008 8:21 pm ET

This woman is so scary. If McCain was to win the election and then die in office, do we really want this woman in charge? If Bush put us in the toilet, Palin will finish flushing us down the pipes and into the sewer.

Matt   September 11th, 2008 8:21 pm ET

I never thought the Republicans would top Dan Quayle in terms of inexperience and downright ignorance for a vice presidential candidate. But after seeing Charlie Gibson's interview with Sarah Palin, I have seen it all !

I am dumbfounded over the voters that find Palin a viable candidate for vice president of the United States of America.

BK   September 11th, 2008 8:21 pm ET

CNN are you going to tell the truth about what Gov. Palin really said about if Georgia was a member of NATO we would be expected to step up just like all the other members of NATO? Or are you going to spin it like ABC and say she wants to go to war with Russia? Let see how honest CNN is, your credibility is on the line.

Liz   September 11th, 2008 8:21 pm ET

Sarah Palin and John McCain scare the hell out of me.

I just hope Americans have enough brains, especially after the last eight years, to read between the lines and not put the Republicans
back in.

If they do, I hope they are also prepared to be into more war/wars
and, by the sound of it, before too long.

The Republicans will bankrupt the country and what is going to
happen when China calls in the debt?

Marie C.   September 11th, 2008 8:20 pm ET

MY GOD< SHE"S TERRIBLE!!!!

Confused   September 11th, 2008 8:19 pm ET

Those who are undecided, or who are PUMAS, or who are for Hillary 2012, (as they state on all these comment blogs) need to pay more attention to the issues.

If you vote for McCain, then Palin gets 4 years in the White House that gives her the experience card and that will go against Hillary!!! I cannot believe that Obama doesn't have a place for her, perhaps Sec of State or the Supreme Court, or overseeing Health Care etc etc etc. This can only add to her already over the top credentials. But if you vote for McCain, you give Gov. Palin the advantage.....why would you do that????

There is no doubt that Gov. Palin has energized McCain's campaign, but it is because of Rove tactics that are dishonorable and deceitful. Why don't you realize that McCain is not getting that energy on his own merits, as per the recent trip he took alone yesterday?

If you want Hillary next time.....any true supporter of hers would either not vote this time or vote for Obama because, for now....like him or not.....he is the only one that will ultimately help Hillary in 2012.

To spite the Dems because you didn't like the fact that Hillary didn't win this time, is so juvenile.....you are not true supporters or you would never consider voting for someone based on gender alone, someone who stands for everything that Hillary doesn't.

For example: How sad that Gov. Palin's beliefs could possibly reverse Roe v Wade, I detest the thought of abortion but I defend any woman's right to choose, especially in the case of rape or incest.....it is God's Will to decide if a life is meant to be....it certainly is not up to the Republicans.

gl   September 11th, 2008 8:19 pm ET

"I answered him yes, because I have the confidence in that readiness and knowing that you can't blink," Palin told ABC News in her first interview since accepting the No. 2 slot on the GOP ticket.

Yes, she sound like she is on in job interview. One of my favor lines, I have the confidence that I am righ person for this job. Sound a little like my line during my intervew!

Breck from VA   September 11th, 2008 8:19 pm ET

There is no experience which allows you to be ready for President without on the job training. Get that through your heads deluded rightists. Also get through your heads that McCain's representing a continuation of the Bush Administration.

Lynn in NM   September 11th, 2008 8:18 pm ET

I had no idea that Charles Gibson had a hearing problem. Gov. Palin had to repeat her statement 3 times in regards to Israel protecting its borders. Your partisanship was showing Charlie. Sorry, but I won't be watching you again. I don't remember you asking Obama if he thought he was qualified for the job, or how much he had travelled overseas regarding foreign policy. He has about as much experience as she does.

Pucky18   September 11th, 2008 8:18 pm ET

She is strong rather you like it or not, and think about this. Do you love your country? She love her country and she want the best for us, and she is not perfect and I beleive she and John McCain can get the job done and it will take times.

Think about this! Democrat destroyed Sept 11, 2001, not the Republican!!!

Donkey wake up and be honest of what happened from 1992 to 2000 before Sept 11, 2001. What made this happen on Spet 11, 2001.

Jules   September 11th, 2008 8:18 pm ET

Her answers were rehearsed as if she had memorized them using flashcards like a high school student. Gibson hardly pushed her, but when he nudged her, she just repeated the same memorized lines or gave the old "non-answer answer." I can't beleive people are buying into this farce.

Ron L   September 11th, 2008 8:18 pm ET

One other thing. To ANYONE who thinks it is "enough" that all Governor Palin has to do is "Love Our Country".
You HAVE LOST YOUR MIND!!
A person could love our country with all their heart, make BAD decisions, and run us right in the ground!!!
Sounds like our current President if you ask me!!

Anyonmous   September 11th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

IF and I say IF the country if Georgia joins NATO then it is the DUTY of other countries in NATO to come to that countries defense.

That small countries can band together and with the help of the USA and stand up to was was the USSR was one of the main reasons NATO was created

To argue it is a bad thing that Gov Sara Palin is somehow a warmonger for saying NATO will defend its member countries only will show the ignorance of what the purpose of what NATO is.

Even with the fall of the soviet union NATO remains a force not to be taken for granted

SO PLEASE attack Sen Palin for her statements regarding NATO and Georgia it doesn't not show her ignorance but your own.

Greg, San Francisco, CA   September 11th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

"I didn't hesitate, no," – So knowing she had a pregnant 17 year old who would be exposed to scrutiny by the national media and a newborn with Down's Syndrome, she never hesitated to put her political ambitions above the welfare of her own family, which means it's a pretty safe bet that she'll put her political ambitions above the welfare of yours and mine.

Susan   September 11th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

I am an Independent who has happily anticipated this interview. I was horrified to see that I know more about the Bush Doctrine and foreign policy than Sarah Palin does. She is utterly frightening. I will certainly watch Nightline tonight and the rest of the interview tomorrow. I have now lost all the confidence I had in John McCain, choosing Sarah Palin was unbelievably bad judgement. It makes me sick that John McCain has hammered Barack Obama for being inexperienced – Obama is a Harvard educated Constitutional scholar and an attorney with 12 years experience in State and National government. Sarah Palin has been Governor of Alaska for 19 months and has a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism. I truly fear for America if McCain/Palin were to be elected.

Leonard   September 11th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

I saw an interesting 20/20 last night about how good looking people are treated better, are considered more trust worthy, etc. Many people have proven that to be true since they've obviously fallen for Ms. Palin based on nothing that makes her a legitimate candidate in this election. Wake up folks!!! And shame on any woman who was a Hillary supporter now thinking of switching based on gender. You're a disgrace to the rest of us. Obama/Biden 2008!

Good old liberal Campbell Brown is at it again! Just heard her say that Sara Palin implied that the US might have to go to war with Russia over an possible invasion of Georgia. A COMPLETE DISTORTION OF WHAT THE WOMAN SAID !!! She simply repeated the NATO policy that an attack against any member of NATO is an attack against all members of the alliance. Georgia of course is not a member of NATO so the question posed to Palin was an attempted trap. PLEASE CAMBELL ... MAKE SOME SMALL ATTEMPT TO BE FAIR AND OBJECTIVE ..YOUR BIAS IS A DISGRACE TO JOURNALISM!!

BOTH SITES WOULD TELL YOU WHAT IS FACT AND WHAT IS FICTION. QUIT ALL THIS FOOLISHNESS. START LOOKING AT THEIR PLAN INSTEAD HOW THEY LOOK. THAT IS WHY WE WENT THROUGH 8 YEARS OF HELL.!!!!!

NP   September 11th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

I am surprised and ashamed of the media. Making such a big deal about Sarah ALL the time. This Ticker article is not newsworthy, if you ask me... As long as the media gets excited about every blink of her campaign will not get to the issues and back to the race between Obama and McCain. She is not meaningful really, and the final vote will be for one of those men, not for her. If some ignorant people want to get excited about her and dismiss all questionable things about her just because she wears lipstick, then it is their choice. Just please, CNN, don't buy into that. It is politics and country is on the line here!

Jeffrey   September 11th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

Why would she hesitate? She's a political newcomer with a shot to be a heartbeat away from the Oval Office.

Unfortunately, she's not the one you want a heartbeat away.

Miguel   September 11th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

Doesn't anyone find it funny that her son just happend to get deployed to iraq during during campaign season. I think the repuplicans just want more of the sympathy vote more than anything. Hillary is not in the ticket so they want to make sure sarah palin brings all the women vote to the mccain camp. Mccain has been in the US senate longer than I have been alive, It is obious that he hasnt made any big change while in the senate what makes us the voters think that he'll make those changes as president. I am an active duty sailor I respect him for serving this country, but lets face it we need real change in washington even, if you dont like Obama, you have to agree that his life story reminds us of our everyday life and strugles to find our place in this world.

I saw the interview and I have to tell you she sounded more like she was delivering "talking points" instead of being relaxed and natural. I look foward to more interviews. My first glance says she really isn't ready for V.P. WHY?? Because her answers just didn't seem really hers. It sounded like a person who was prepped, not a person comfortable in responding. The jury is still out...

It is sad that McCain really only picked Palin, a token woman candidate, to compete with Obamas celebrity status, given to him by a liberally biased media. The only thing that sets Obama apart from other politicians is the fact that he is black.

Rosanne   September 11th, 2008 8:11 pm ET

Does anyone think that she actually knew what she was talking about?
It was obvious that she had memorized the answers to a number of possible questions. She could not expand on anything though & when she didn't know how to answer – she just kept repeating her last answer.

NOT impressed (NOT AT ALL)! She sucked!

gl   September 11th, 2008 8:11 pm ET

Sara Palin is insane in the Membrain. I am ashame of McCain to select someone for just to win and put the American people at risk and by putting Sara Palin on his ticket.

voter   September 11th, 2008 8:11 pm ET

cnn, you did not include her answers about israel, russia and iraq. Pat Buchannon said she gave bad answers and obviously did not know current policy and history of the countries being discussed in the interview. this was not good and everyone needs to see the interview today and tomorrow to know Sarah's policies and beliefs. She really does not have a grasp of the issues.

jjd   September 11th, 2008 8:11 pm ET

For those who saw the interview, wow. Sarah Palin is not prepared to be VP. Not only does she not have enough experience, she doesn't even know the issues. I feel bad for her because she has been put (and has accepted) a position she is not qualified for in any way. I was excited to vote for her, but I can't in good conscience do so.

Mary   September 11th, 2008 8:11 pm ET

Sarah – The world is not going to go down the drain if you didn't say yes. It is not like anything was on the line! You could have said no because you know you are not qualified. Wow, what leadership! Not enough brain matter to know you are not ready for the job.

Renae   September 11th, 2008 8:11 pm ET

I feel Palin was beating around the bush when she was asked questions. I don't think she can handle the job as VP or President. I feel it would be a very big mistake for our nation.

Janiece   September 11th, 2008 8:10 pm ET

I finally saw what I believed the whole time... Palin has no clue what she is talking about. That is all I am going to say about that. Second... my husband has served twice in Iraq.... so......... to all of you McCain/Palin "fans" , our military is stretched so thin already and many, many brave men and women have been deployed 3, 4 and 5 times to Iraq and Afghanistan and when they are home they are training up for the next deployment and are hardly home then... I have a suggestion for you. If you are between the age of 18 and I believe it is 43 now. UNCLE SAM NEEDS YOU!!!!! Join the Active Duty Military and be a part of what you so strongly believe in.

Here we go again. Here we go again. If you ask a republican a difficult question you're bullying them. If you want to see presidential or vice presidential candidates answering proper questions check out the numerous videos of Obama and Biden doing unscripted interviews WHICH THEY DO ALL TIME. No complaints, no whines, they just take questions and give their answers.

Marc PDX   September 11th, 2008 8:08 pm ET

Paraphrased from several of senator Obama's recent speeches where he reminded us that he is black...

"...they're going to try to frighten you... I'm from a far away state that most people have never visited, I hunt and fish, and, oh by the way, I'm a woman..."

(But this line of bias doesn't seem to bother the media – most of the articles now circulating are all devoted to Sarah Palin. I guess that means that the vetting of McCain has been completed and it has been determined that he is clean. I'm sure Ms. Palin doesn't mind the attention.) :)

CLACK   September 11th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

I can't see Ms. Palin running the country if something should happen to McCain. The VP of USA has much responsibility.

I can't see her making decisions for this country if she were faced with other political leaders. They would chew her up and spit her out.

The way she is attacking Obama is very juvenile but she's blaming him so we don't see her faults. True christians don't behave in this manner. She appears to be very deceitful and spiteful. I just don't trust her.

She needs to discuss health care and how to get the economy back in order and stop attacking Obama.

Observer   September 11th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

John McCain: please pick me as Secretary of State!!!! I took a couple of college history courses, so I'm qualified for the job!

Ben   September 11th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

She comes across as incredibly arrogant and small-minded. How can a potential president even consider going to war with Russia over Georgia when the result would be a global nuclear catastrophe on a scale she can't possibly comprehend??? That and saying the Iraq war is part of Gods plan is pretty scary stuff. That rivals Dubya's claim that God wanted him to be president.

PLEASE KEEP THIS WOMAN AWAY FROM THE BUTTON!!!

Susannah   September 11th, 2008 8:06 pm ET

Saying you are ready is one thing but saying WHY and HOW you are ready is quite another issue, one that she conveniently dodged.

McCain, Obama and Biden have all answered why and how to this question in interviews and on the campaign trail, but not Palin. That's something to be concerned about and something I am not willing to risk on a VP candidate who might end up being President someday.

McCain I thought you had good judgement but not after this interview.

I just watched the interview and there were a few things I noticed. Palin seemed angry and defensive and was giving the standard line she had been given to memorize. I also think I saw Charlie, close his eyes in thought while she was going on. I think he looked frustrated when she wouldn't answer his questions with straight forward answers. So much for the straight talk express. Another thing I noticed was there was no thought to her 5 month old baby or her pregnant daughter when asked to be VP. As a mother I would have had to think about it more for my disabled baby. That has always concerned me. Palin is of course a woman out for herself, no one should try and stand in her way whether your a librarian, state trooper or 5 month old baby that will need it's mother.

FormerGOP   September 11th, 2008 8:05 pm ET

Of course she did not, she did not stop to think about her lack there of , not her kids, not her husband, or her drunk now Pregnant 17 yr old... all she wants is the fame. This woman is scary so it doesn’t surprise me that she jumped fact fast at the opportunity.

Jebus if this person gets in office or her warmonger grandfather we are all toast! Thats not the way you stand up to the Russians without even discussions first. I dont think you people hear me 150 million dead when the nukes fly over

The Truth Will Set America Free From Palin   September 11th, 2008 8:05 pm ET

Republicans call revealing the TRUTH, an attack, but stated lies and making commercials of lies as even confirmed by the different news stations is perfectly okay. We will not be intimidated or controlled nor will be back down or run away. We will stand for Obama/Biden, and for Truth and for the American people who are fed up with 8 years of lies deceit, struggles, tragedies, job losses, foreclosures, high gas prices, high food prices, no trickle down, insensitive government to the American hurts and McCain statement that it was a mental recession.

We are not weak is spirit or in Number and Obama/Biden will win.

LISTEN , LADIES please listen,,I know we all would like to see a woman in the white house as VP but, come on this is a woman that just had a baby, WHAT IS SHE THINKING OR IS SHE THINKING AT ALL . Please don't forget that this baby has Downs, What are her real views on womans rights? She when back to work after 4 days of having the baby, does she expect us to do the same ?
She has no regard for her own children, do you really think she is going to respect your rights as a mother, MOTHERS THAT WANT to be home with their new born, for more than 4 days. What about the Family Leave Act for dads who chose to be home with their wife and newborn child. What influence will her decisions have on our future and rights as woman ? I think she should be evaluated for Postpartum depression. My heart goes out to her baby and her daughters. What about bonding, what about nurturing a baby. or is that old fashion now a days.

Mark from Connecticut   September 11th, 2008 8:00 pm ET

Here's a woman who opposes stem cell research, opposes abortion in ALL cases (including rape and incest), supports a war that is costing us $10 billion a week, favors a huge tax cut for the top 2%, believes that there is no man-made cause to global warming, believes that the market will fix the healthcare crisis, is opposed to gay rights, and wants to teach Creationism in schools. She is so far right that it's scary.

Most of the comments on here are hilarious. You Obama supporters do realise that you're not helping him at all, right? By holding Sarah Palin to a higher standard than you hold Obama, is just revealing your bias and undecided voters wil be turned off. She did very well, from what I saw.
-–
OK Mr./Ms Independant, please explain this one to me!!!!!!!!!!!!
That comment makes no sense! How are we holding Gov. Palin to a higher standard than Sen. Obama. Sen. Obama has fielded the questions, and answered them. Sen. Bidewas not shielded away from the media, he has been out there on his own making the case! What is Gov. Palin doing? Reguratating the same lines from he exceptance speach. My God she did even understand what the "Bush Doctrine" was.
As for holding any of these candidates to a higher standard, I YES, we should hold them all to a higher standard. We are talking about the Leaders of the most powerful ntion in the world. The most difficult job on the planet, so yeah they all need to be held to a higher standard.

It is funny when McCain supporters tout that Palin has more experience then Obama because she has more executive experience. If that was so then she should be at the top of the ticket with McCain, because a commander of a squadron is not executive experience. It is also funny when Obama supporters say that Palin doesnt have experience when Obama has no executive experience. But I can say that both McCain and Obama are leaders without a doubt, they both had leadership roles but no substantial executive experience.

The problem with Palin is that she never was a spokeswoman for McCain during the course of the campaign like Pawlenty and Romney. This lady showed no interest in national politics and she is being picked clearly for political positioning. This is scary.

Lyle   September 11th, 2008 7:58 pm ET

In the same week in which Mr. Biden stated that perhaps he was not the best choice to be Mr. Obama’s VP, Mrs. Palen says that she is ready, she did not blink when asked, and she knows she is right for the post. Mr. Biden knows he was a poor choice and that Mr. Obama’s judgment is impaired. Mrs. Palen knows that John McCain made the right choice and she is ready, willing and able to serve this country.

rhonda   September 11th, 2008 7:58 pm ET

I too saw the interview and she is even worse than I thought. We have to be afraid of our enemies but I certainly don't want a vice president that I fear. By intent or just plain stupidity, this woman is someone to be afraid of.

Palin - brought to you by the same people who gave us Bush. Just like Bush ,she has no foreign policy experience or sense. She is all tough talk and shooting from the hip. She does not give the impression that she is thoughful or deliberative in her judgment to engage our troops and treasure in another war. Is she ready to have her daughters drafted because if we have another draft women are going too. God help us if she gets ahold of federal executive power.

James Cox   September 11th, 2008 7:58 pm ET

Anyone remember the movie Top Gun – Tom Cruise played "Maverick" – didn't follow the rules, made impulsive decisions that nearly killed himself and a few others. I don't want a Maverick in the White House. I perfer two really smart people who will make, and who have made, informed, carefully though out decisions. Playing hot jock with the Russians, or buzzing the tower maybe lots of fun, right up until the time when you crash, taking the plane and others down with you. No wreckless Mavericks belong in the Whitehouse.

Steve   September 11th, 2008 7:58 pm ET

It appears Sarah Palin has gone through "brain dump" and a battery of mock interviews and is now somewhat prepared for media interviews. I will bet my bottom dollar that as her interviews are scrutinized, there will be cries that they are being too hard on a woman, forgetting that they do that to every candidate when discussing qualifications. I'm sure this will cause an emotional outcry from supporters.

After paying a keen interest in the elections (both parties) for almost two years, I think Hardin was spot on when he questioned in his article whether Americans are too ignorant to govern. I'll take it a step further. I think we are too stupid to govern....

AnothenX   September 11th, 2008 7:58 pm ET

Omggg, Sarah Palin says that if Russia were to attack Georgia again, then we should go to war with Russia. Can we say "Gaffe" Ready to watch hockey, not ready to lead

OBAMA-BIDEN 08

Jade Wright   September 11th, 2008 7:58 pm ET

I just saw the first interview with Sarah Palin.
Here are some major unbelievable points from her!

1. The Russian invasion of Georgia was (completely unprovoked) And that South Ossetia and Abkhazia must be returned to Georgia without question. She was clueless to the history of the area. She had no idea and frankly did not care about the culture or history of the area. As most arrogant neocons are.. (Simply they don't care about the history or culture of any area of the world) She did not know that population of these areas are Russian and that S. Ossetia was given to Georgia by Stalin and was part of Russian not so long ago.. And is she is clueless about North Ossetia!

2. She said the war in Iraq is a calling from God!

3. She said the service of her son in Iraq is a mission from God! (Apparently Exon is the Vicar of Christ)

4. She said the USA has the right to invade any country if we have intelligence that they plan to hurt us. (Nobody would ever make up such intelligence, would they?)

5. She said The Ukraine and Georgia will be part of NATO.

6. When ask if she knew that Georgia in NATO could mean war with Russia.. She said yes! Like it's a video game to be played?? Another mission from God I'm sure! I suspect she thinks Russia is a Muslim country! Not joking!

* We claim to fight unworldly, uniformed, insane religious radicals yet we keep sending them to represent us in Washington!

Registered Independent   September 11th, 2008 7:57 pm ET

There seems to be some confusion here between experience and qualification. It is true that neither Palin nor Obama are particularly experienced. That, to me, isn't the issue. The issue is are either of them qualified to be the president of the U.S. Diplomacy, intelligence, awareness of national and foreign issues, and ability to collaborate with others to make wise and informed decisions is far more important than experience. Based on what I've seen in Palin, she is far less qualified to be president than Barack Obama.

This woman is cut from a different cloth than most.

With 5 kids at home, one of them a handicapped newborn almost, why the heck would she take on such a daunting task as vp, or even president? If she becomes the vp, then her duties in the Washington DC would leave her zero time for her family. Is that a good mother? Hardly. Just you watch, after 4 years as vp or president maybe, she is going to look like an old woman, old beyond her years. And for what? Would it have been worth it?

The one positive thing I can say about her is that she knows what she wants and she is determined.

Her statements really to show how ready she is. She got a crash course in McCain-ology, so now she's fully prepared to babble on about a Cold War and how we are all Georgians...*sigh*. Sarah, we already know what John McCain thinks. I want to know what YOU think. What are YOUR ideas on how to help solve America's issues? When have you used your diplomatic skils to do anything? Charlie Gibson is a biased jerk. He wasn't even paying attension to Palin during the interview. He needs to go ask Obama hard questions like that. That's what I want to see. The media is just upset because Palin said she didn't care for them. Just like I have not for several years. They have lost focus and it's so dissapointing.

Cynthia   September 11th, 2008 7:54 pm ET

I saw breaks in the tape and her mouth moving and no words coming out. In addition and more importantly, she stuck to the patented answers that were given to her by the people who prepped her even when she should have said something different. I don't know anything about international affairs but know that something was not right in that interview.

Tek   September 11th, 2008 7:54 pm ET

This interview is really a waste. Being confidant and being prepared to be president isn't the same thing as being qualified. I mean, what is she suppose to say. That she isn't qualified and confidant. I'm confidant but it doesn't mean I'm freaking qualified to be president.

Emily   September 11th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

She obviously went through a good training of a GOP training camp.

Anyway, it seems the interview is missing contents about what "she" believes in, other than showing her confidence and poise. What are her own policies? Hillary had her own convictions through her political careers, even when she was in a college she already had a focus on the issues that could help women. And Hillary developed her convictions on what she wants to do for the country. Hillary's presentation and communication may be less charming and less personable than Sarah's, but I do not care, because she is the woman of the substance.

Sarah is just being a good presenter and a soldier, with great confidence and faith – which is great as a person, but then, what does she really want to do for the country? Can she elaborate what she means by "reform"? What will she exactly plan to do? What legislation will she support for her vision of reform? Will she reform our failing healthcare? Will she reform our failing foreign policy? Will she reform our skewed tax system to re-distribute money from us to these riches?

I am sure she did not blink to say yes, but she is blinking now to come up with her actual "reform" plans.

Gary of El Centro, Ca   September 11th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

She's ready to commit us to multiple wars under the Bush Doctrine, yet she doesn't even know what it is. And she knows all about Russia because she lives next door. This is really scary stuff.......

Christian   September 11th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

Confidence and commitment are one thing. Competence is another.
This woman scares the heck out of me. Fools march in where angels fear to tread.
Sounds like Mrs. Palin would march right in to perform open-heart surgery if she felt “called to serve and committed to the mission or purpose.” I think she is probably just as qualified to perform open-heart surgery as she is to lead this country. She has qualifications for neither. Wake up America.

Hockey mom in Michigan   September 11th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

Can I ask why so many are sneering at the fact the Sarah Palin is a hockey mom? As far as I'm concerned hockey mom is a code word for 'woman'. So by insulting her for being a hockey mom (interpretation: woman) you're insulting all women, that's going to put off alot of female Hillary supporters and independent women.

Don't forget she's also a Governor! And has more executive experience than Obama.

Carol   September 11th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

Doesn't McCain's wife run her family's company? It may be up to Cindy-Lou Who to run the country if her husband and this nut get elected.

McSenile can still keep himself busy. During commercial breaks on Judge Judy, he can go outside and yell at kids skateboarding in front of the White House. Hopefully, he won't get caught in one of the traps the Palins will put out to catch critters for their dinner.

Missy Sarah, and all the other Palin women-folk, can hang diapers on the clothesline she'll string up in front of the VP's residence. Then she can dust the mooseheads hanging on the walls. The Palin menfolk can drink beer in front of the VP residence, while leaning on one of the many broken-down cars in the driveway.

Liberals keep making this same mistake which will cost them the election. They keep bringing up petty and stupid drivel about Palin and the media keeps putting her back in the spotlight which in turn, drives up McSames ratings. Obama will lose, dems don't have a clue right now except try to dig up dirt on Palin which is a bad strategy.

Have you heard Palin's speech, when she arrived back home to Alaska?

Why hasn't the media picked up on her wrong use of the word "Regime"? Listen carefully. Watch her mouth as she enunciates the word. It is scary that this lady could become the next VP or President of the United States. What is her education level? Evidently she just repeats what the speech writers tell her, without actually knowing what she is saying??? Do the American people really want such an uneducated, naive person as CEO of this country? Would you hire someone for a foreign policy job when they don’t even know what "Regime change" means? If so, I guess the American people deserve what they get, a failed nation, run by greedy Corporations and Oil companies. I am sure the founding fathers are rolling over in their graves.

So much for Land of the Free. Just Brave & Stupid.

Confidence is important and I would rather she demonstrate it then tell everyone that Romney is more qualified than her.

___________

Remember one thing Sir. These Are elected PUBLIC SERVANTS!!!! This is not something that should be taken without consideration! So showing some humility is a good thing, it is never a bad thing to questions ones self, to truly examine ones self, to make sure you can do the job. Not Blinking only indicates a self-serving, almost complacent attitude.

Sp   September 11th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

CNN why is it there are only negative comments on Palin? I can answer that for you, your bias and will not allow positive comments to be posted. FYI for you, most everyone that has decided to vote for McCain and Palin, have made their minds up and you cannot change it. You are looking like fools, if you think that Obama can run this country. As for change did you forget about how bad of change we needed when Clinton was in office???? He is the reason for the mess Bush had to clean up. He is the reason this country became sooooo vulnerable. I guess your so selfish that in order for you to have something to report you need an idiot to be president ,run the country into the ground, and give you reason to get up in the mornings. Pretty sad!!! You may have some people fooled, but the smart people in this country are republicans, and nothing you say or do will change our minds. I bet you will not post this, will you????

Annie   September 11th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

Saw the interview. She agrees that she has foreign policy experience because Russia is next to Alaska, you can even see Russia from some places there! She agrees that striking across the Pakistan border was necessary! I'm sure Pakistan doesn't agree. I'm seeing War Monger and War Mongeress, and no diplomacy mentioned anywhere.

REPUBLICANS FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGE REAL LEADERSHIP   September 11th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

1. Obama has been stating that we should talk to all of our enemies, while Republicans called it "appeasement".

Now, Republicans have a U.S. representative at the Iranian talks.

2. Obama has called for withdrawal timelines in Iraq, while Republicans called it "cut and run".

Now, Iraq will not sigh the NATO extension until the draft contains a specific timeline. Also, Republicans now have agreed to a "time horizon".

3. Obama has stated the real war against terror is and has been in Afghanistan.

Now Republicans agree and state more troops should go to Afghanistan.

4. Obama has been calling for change for 19 months.

Now the Republicans, are now the “agent of change” after a week, although they are not telling us how the next 4 will be different from the last 8.

Seems to me Obama has all the leadership skills that Republicans now wish they had. Obama certainly seems to be leading them around by the ring in their nose!

Saved   September 11th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

I tell you McCain/Palinare ready to drag us into another war. Don't think Russa isn't taking notes. They are just waiting for McCain to take office so they can began World War 3. Bet McCain can't keep you safe then!

Kay   September 11th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

So instead of fighting two wars, she's open to starting a third one. She really scares me. Where are we supposed to get the people to fight the third war? Can anyone say draft? If you had any doubts about her qualifications you shouldn't have them anymore. No wonder they won't let her do interviews.

Very Concerned Citizen   September 11th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

Oh boy. The Americans once again(2000/2004) has to make a very difficult decision about who to pick for President. Yes, the is an enormous burden.

A. A war hero who happens to be in a very good position not to finish his term and leave the world's most power nation to a person who has been outside the country I believe once, knows precious little about economics, has a scary record on the environment, knows nothing about foriegn policy and oh yeah, has been gov. for about a minute.

B. Barack Obama – I don't think I really think I need to say anthing more about him. Oh yeah, among his many accomplishments (I mean that in the most complimentary way) he was a community organizer.

Yep, hard choice. I'm sure the people around the globe are thinking "Boy I wouldn't want to have to be an American and make that decision".

People please, if you love this nation have the courage to do the right thing. Don't place it in the hands of a war monger and a person who probably needs at least two terms worth of experince before even uttering the words I'm fit to be vice or president.

It's truly insane!!!

Obama/Biden 2008

I am a proud supporter of a community organizer.

And if anyone else is, please let the media know in a blog or e-mail. I think they believe we are ashamed of that fact.

Can't Believe It   September 11th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

When is the McCain-Palin operation going to stop insulting barracudas and pit bulls?

Joe Kent Island, MD   September 11th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

Her confidence is an over estimate in her own abilities, which is truly frightening. I don't think anyone can be truly ready to be president, they need to learn the job. Sarah was mayor of a town of 9,000, cutting ribbons of new grocery stores, then governor of an oil rich state with less people than a mid-sized American city and she thinks she can run a country of over 300 million people? She never had to deal with diversity of people because Alaska is no were near a sample of the rest of the nation. No international experience? No thanks!!

I'd rather vote for the pitbull; at least a dog has enough sense not to bite off more then they can chew.

Dawn   September 11th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

All of the republicans on ABC's website are so angry at Charlie Gibson. They think he was unfair. Does anyone remember McCain hand-picked Gibson. I thought it was terrific. She's finally exposed.

LOVIN PALIN   September 11th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

I agree she should have recognized the title and basics of Bush Doctrine. However, there is still wide ongoing debate among DC polticos on both sides of the aisle about the wisdom to proceed under the breadth of those guidelines.

Executive Experience?   September 11th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

Republicans keep bringing up the executive experience issue. I'll take the ground-breaking way in which Obama has run his presidential campaign organizatin over Palin's year and a half running Alaska ANY DAY. Obama's campaign machine will be studied by both parties for years. That is executive experience.

Cynthia - Arkansas   September 11th, 2008 7:46 pm ET

If Americans fall for the BS, there is truly no hope for this country! This woman doesn't have a clue. The Republicans thought that they could just bring her out and people would "love" her so much she wouldn't even be ask any hard questions. Think again! Even the main stream media are being forced to call out these lies. It's starting to make them look foolish not to. This country is in a crisis. There is no time for a learning curve! She doesn't even come close to being qualified to be VP with a man 72 years old as a running mate. She scares me to death. She's being tutored by the same people who brought us the "Bush doctrine", even if she doesn't know what the is!

All the Obama folks attacking the GOP for putting a "inexperienced" candidate up for VP.

Palin was at the bottom of the barrel, just becaused you were asked doesn't mean you should have accepted! And now with the information coming out against her, I'm not sure she's going to stay on the ticket. It looks like she'll pursuit career over the needs of her family.

Lewis   September 11th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

TIn my opinion I think Charlie was way to easy on Palin. He should have really pushed her on the issue as to why she believes she is ready to be President of the US if something should happen to "I was a POW McCain". Come on Media yes I know she a female but i want to know that if the time comes for her to step into the oval office that she has the brains and know how to keep this country safe.

joe... and how is sticking with the party that chose not to go after the most wanted terrorist on the face of the planet who was also the mastermind of that horrible day 7 years ago going to make us any safer. anyone who supported the iraq war over the hunt for osama bin laden. to make a statement to the world, you come and mess with us, we WILL get you. that would make you safer. iraq has been a buisness deal for the republicans, at our expense. and you want to give them another four years.. because you are scared.. wake up, realize the truth, and then you will understand what true change needs means and that mccain and palin will bring us nothing but war..

and she wont even blink before she thinks.. dont be dumb,.
vote obama.

Every Wilson   September 11th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

Its sad to see Palin not getting any negative flap for being a celebrity, I guess its because she is a white woman! Its also sad to see a socalled religious person make up stuff on another person, knowing because she and Mccain is white, that white people tend to believe each other's facts even if they haven't been checked out. Especially, if its on an African American or other minority. All we have to do is look at how many minoritied have been falsely accused and got exonerated by DNA or prejudged just because of black stereotype. They can make up stuff and say anything and not back it up factually, because they know they are speaking to majority white population, who will believe them over Barack Obama anyday! I also am sick of hearing about Barack Obama’s not admitting the surge is working or has worked! The fact is John McCain voted for the Iraq War which has cost Americans a trillion dollars. Does John McCain take credit for the trillion dollars in debt, or our failing economy, caving infrastructure, diminished reputation around the world and the American dollar’s down turn? Well, I think Barack Obama saying the surge has worked is a good thing , and I also think John McCain’s persistence in claiming credit for the his and his party’s hoping for deliverance from the deep trench the Iraq war and their worst politically charged judgment decision of the century is obviously an act of desperation! Then during the republican convention they laugh at Barack Obama’s humble beginnings as a community organizer, which I think was another tragic mistake in judgment. When they laugh, they were laughing at Martin Luther King Jr. (whose holiday McCain voted against), C. Chavez, Nelson Mandela, Ghandi, Fredrick Douglas, Eleanor Roosevelt and many more Americans who weren’t elitest or looked down on the poor! They will not hesitate to do anything!

From reading the posts here, I can sense a lot of Obama supporters are becoming panic since the polls favored McCain a few days ago.
The arrogance has mostly gone. The hatred is deeper. What a change of forturn. Obama and Palin are basically the same in term of experience and both can give a good speech. It was that a few weeks ago Obama was hot, but now Palin is hot. Take turns. Neither side are interested in talking issues.

I find the fact that she didn't even hesitate very alarming. Being "wired" to act first and think later is what got George W (and the rest of us) into the mess we're in now. I'd have more confidence in this very likable, but somewhat simple minded, person if she would show less willingness to be a maverick and more willingness to pause and reflect before echoing the party line.

Say what you will about Obama's lack of experience, he consistently shows the kind of thoughtful intentionality that I would hope (and pray) for in the leader of he free world.

GIBSON: Do you agree with the Bush doctrine?

PALIN: In what respect, Charlie?

GIBSON: The Bush - well, what do you - what do you interpret it to be?

PALIN: His world view.

GIBSON: No, the Bush doctrine, enunciated September 2002, before the Iraq war.

PALIN: I believe that what President Bush has attempted to do is rid this world of Islamic extremism, terrorists who are hell bent on destroying our nation. There have been blunders along the way, though. There have been mistakes made. And with new leadership, and that's the beauty of American elections, of course, and democracy, is with new leadership comes opportunity to do things better.

GIBSON: The Bush doctrine, as I understand it, is that we have the right of anticipatory self-defense, that we have the right to a preemptive strike against any other country that we think is going to attack us. Do you agree with that?

YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS!!!! SHE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW THE BUSH DOCTRINE?????

Sp   September 11th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

Democrats you’re funny. Let’s discuss Obama, first of all experience, what is more important, an inexperienced president or vice president?

Obama is going to be in training himself. He does not have the training on most issues that the president needs to have. But, on top of that he has not been Mayor of a city, and has no executive experience. So now are you going to allow a president with no experience to learn by his mistakes? We as a country will suffer more than ever, because he will make mistakes that will cause this country to be vulnerable. He has already said "HE WANTS TO SLOW DOWN THE DEVELOPEMENT OF OUR DEFENSE". This would be the dumbest thing ever. That is what Clinton did and that is the reason why we were vulnerable and got attacked all those times while he was in office and on 9/11. He closed down bases, cut our troops in half and stop the development of defense systems.
Now you dems talk about change, well even a blind person can see that change has happened in the last 8 years. We are a stronger country throughout and better than ever. No one wants to mess with us now. We are safer everywhere, our military is strong and well equipped.

Obama’s not scary; hell a baby would mess with him. At least McCain is strong when it comes to his guts, knowledge and he will keep this country from being attacked again. I know people in the military that are waiting to reenlist, because if Obama becomes president, they are getting out. They do not want him as their commander and Chief.
As for the military, don't talk about us, we make our choices based on patriotism. When we join, we join knowing that we may have to go to war. That is our job. We believe in what we are doing and volunteered to do it. Stop talking about us like you know what we want and need. Our pay and lively hood is better than ever. Bush and McCain have made sure that we are appreciated. After all if it weren't for the brave men and women this country would not be what it is today.
And speaking of the military, what about Genocide, everybody wines about Darfur, but do they remember what happened to the people of Iraq? This was a great case of genocide, those people deserved to be free. We never had a war against the people of Iraq; we had a beef with the leader who allowed his own people to be killed, and housed terrorist. We are helping those people, it takes an education and we are educating them. Take a look at all the countries that have been to war, most of them we help rebuild and educate and now they are thriving. Our own country was not what it is today, and it was due to our ancestors fighting for our rights. It took education all along the way.

Colo Sprgs, CO   September 11th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

I haven't seen anyone ask them about the draft.

If you are thinking of voting for the McCain – Palin ticket remember your vote could send your kids to Iraq. Think about that next time the republicans start yammering about lipstick on a pig.

Lone Wolf MD   September 11th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

So, the American people are supposed to decide if Palin is ready to be a VP or Commander In Chief based on this one controlled interview? The other candidates in this race have been subjected to tough questioning from day one, and that is as it should be in an election as important as this. If the McCain campaign continues to shield her from the press after this, how is that putting "Country First?" We know less about Palin than any other VP candidate in modern history, and that is a slap in the face to the American people.

Where is your outrage, CNN? You are supposed to be a free press in a democratic society, and we rely on you to give us the info we need to decide who we will vote for. Are you and the rest of the media just going to roll over for the Republicans as you did in the lead-up to the Iraq war? Look where your silence and complicity has gotten us already! It is time to redeem yourselves......

Garry   September 11th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

In watching excerpts of the first interview of Gov. Palin, three things came to mind:luke, scripted and repeat....Luke: Charles Gibson, although a very nice, likeable TV newsperson, was luke, not even luke warm in his line of questioning of Gov. Palin. I don't think he will be straight forward enough to question the canidate. Scripted: Gibson might have well been sitting with a speech writer, she lacked anything original since the RNC (even that was written by someone else) and appeared to be very defensive in trying to protray a strong a strong women and lastly ,Repeat: John McCain in a wig, same words different gender. I long ago thought this country was ready for a female executive, I don't believe she is the one.

Jennifer   September 11th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

Sarah Palin is receiving intensive tutoring on the issues in American politics. How can a VP need tutoring on American issues?

I was undecided between Obama and McCain until Sarah Palin showed up. A 72 year old president should not have such an unprepared VP. What if there is an emergency and she needs to make a decision quickly?

And don't say Obama has the same experience. It's not about experience, it's about ABILITY. Obama isn't being hidden until he's done getting tutored.

Her answers on the former SOviet repubics scare the hell out of me. Basically, she believes we should go to war against Russia over it's former territories and basically end the world as we know it. Does she not realize that the Russians have over 4,000 warheads aimed at this country and that they will not hesitate to use them if we keep sticking our noses into their backyard. Historically, Russians are extremely fearful of foreigners nosing in on their sphere of influence. The mighty German army paid the price. Now is this nuclear age, idiotic Republicans who believe we should be admitting former Soviet states into Nato are naive and dreadfully irresponsible.

Diplomacy with the Russians is the only option because war will end in the destruction of the earth.

Grandma for Obama   September 11th, 2008 7:41 pm ET

Why should everything change now that a woman is running for the VP spot?

Why should Obama have to censor his words and walk on egg shells in fear that every day common expression will now be twisted into a "sexism" claim.

Funny, it's the republicans who are screaming the sexism claim, however in my hayday of womens rights walks it was the Republicans who came out with negative labels to call us such as "Feminazis".

Well this feminazi is telling the Republicans to shut up. Stop screaming smoke when there's no fire. Obama isn't sexist, however I find a man who makes the claim that women "just need more training" sexist.

It's about time the media starts getting back to actual reporting of news, not this ridiculous national enquirer crap!

LOL after watching the portions of the interview on ABC I now understand why McCain has kept her on a short leash. It was a one on one situation and she avoided the questions, many times not bothering to answer. At one point Charlie had to ask her was that a yes or no. I can't wait to see even more of her downfall tomorrow night on 20/20. I can see it now, this interview will put Obama/Biden 10% ahead in the polls. Looking forward to seeing her freak out during the debates. HA HA way to go Sarah.

Definition: Bush Doctrine   September 11th, 2008 7:38 pm ET

The Bush Doctrine is a phrase used to describe various related foreign policy principles of United States president George W. Bush, created in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks. The phrase initially described the policy that the United States had the right to treat countries that harbor or give aid to terrorist groups as terrorists themselves, which was used to justify the invasion of Afghanistan.[1] Later it came to include additional elements, including the controversial policy of preventive war, which held that the United States should depose foreign regimes that represented a threat to the security of the United States, even if that threat was not immediate (used to justify the invasion of Iraq), a policy of supporting democracy around the world, especially in the Middle East, as a strategy for combating the spread of terrorism, and a willingness to pursue U.S. military interests in a unilateral way.

Great! McCain picked Caribou Barbie as his V.P.

God help us if they get elected.

She's plucky, edgy, was very well rehearsed with shallow pat non-answers, too many "Charlies", has no grasp of foreign affairs and tried to make everything about energy, particulary Alaska oil, cause that's all she knows.

There is such a thing as too much confidence. She had a glare and and intensity in her eyes that, frankly, not only turn me off but makes me very afraid.

Politics makes funny bedfellows! :(

The Clinton's wanted Obama to lose before Governor Palin became Senator McCain's best choice for VP.

Governor Palin outshines both Obama and Hillary! And, will make an excellent president after Senator McCain! :)

Former democrat and Hillary supporter for McCain/Palin 08! They will deliver the authentic reform America can believe in! And, they will do it with integrity! :)

She thought by running mate, he meant someone to jog with.

Seriously though... I would much rather have a president who takes the time to think things through. An analytical mind over an impulsive one any day. Palin sounds like much more of a Bush clone that McCain.

I can just picture her first interview.... I would not hesitate to bomb the Iran, and the Russia, and... like... such as....

Maggie VT   September 11th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

Obviously the Democrats are not aware who is running for President. Where do these ding-bat Republicans come from?? All the more reason not to vote for Obama. They all seem to know more than Palin!!! How do these people become qualify to speak negative against Palin? Sounds like most of them either work for Obama or still in high school or less. Your hate has blinded you to not being able to see what is different between attacking the terrorists and Pakistan.

Its the misunderstanding of what your own presidential pick meant is what scares me so much about you hate filled drones on the left. And you lack of sound reasoning and ability to check your own facts.
You reguritate what you hear but lack the ability to open your minds. Your partisan bias view of the world is clouding your ability to think.

Sen Obama at least sees the danger of going after Gov Palins religious beliefs, her family, HIS OWN hate ignorant followers don't even listen to him.

It's true that Obama often hesitates during an interview or debate, but his answers are well-thought out. He just needs that extra second to pull all the information together.

What's important is what comes out of the mouth after the hesitation. That can show wisdom and judgment, or ignorance and recklessness.

Too bad we aren't as confident!!!!! Sarah Palin is the biggest political joke I have ever seen. I am sick of turning on the tv and hearing her name! It is such wasted energy in light of the important issues affecting the American people. Why can't anyone see that this is the McCain campaign trying to deflect the attention from important issues????? What is with the idea of trying to make the candidates into everyday people? I want to look up to my President as someone more intelligent than the normal everyday person. I don't think we want a hockey mom running the country!
Obama/Biden 2008

RAR   September 11th, 2008 7:35 pm ET

Of course you have self confidence when everything you do is "God's work" and you are part of "God's plan". Her responses are exactly why she isn't qualified for the vice presidency or the presidency. We've seen what happens when we elect a President who believes he has direct communication with God then launches military action with no plan for victory. She exhibits the same lack of understanding and won't avail herself to the press so we can determine just how she thinks. It's one thing to give speeches with punchy lines that get an emotional reaction but that isn't what happens in the situation room at the White House. Remember Dick Cheny wanting to shoot down civilian aircraft on 9/11? Stop hiding Sarah and open yourself up to interviews, talk shows, and give an in depth speech on a topic of interest to others than your conservative base . Doesn't the fact her first interview is with "People" magazine tell you something?

tony   September 11th, 2008 7:35 pm ET

Joe, American Airman, & Unintelligent Voters,

Stop drinking the kool aid! I am a multi million dollar business owner with more employees than she has in Alaska. I know more foreign policy, economic issues, the stock market, the housing market, etc... than that sorry excuse for a VP. I would have aced that interview along with many more intelligent voters out there. I guess she did not practice as much for the interview as she has done for the speech she keeps reciting like a broken record traveling with the old man. Just a trick and pony show! You guys must be drunk, stupid, or mentally unstable to vote for McBush & and the cheap sideshow.

I have sent a beloved son to war in Baghdad Iraq, The day that He left us was heart breaking. It was a private hell . I can't understand how any one let alone a mother of a soldier could possible carry on as usual while her son boards a plane to a war that is a lie. She must be a lot stronger than me or could it be that she knows full well that her child will not be in harms way like the rest of our men? Either way Mrs. Palin I hope you get to get your son back so that you can hear his voice or just look at him , when he doesn't know your watching. There are over 4000 who will not have that pleasure for this war that you support. Think that over Sarah.

- – - Honestly, what would a wise and discerning person do?
(a.) – Don't blink and say I'll take it without thoughtful consideration, or;
(b.) – Tell McCain that you need at least 24-hours to process the issues, and give your family some time to consider the changes and sacrifices they will have to make for the next 4-to-8 years.

I'm sorry Sarah but that is not your responsibilty, that is God's job. Our job is to love our fellow man. Loving includes tolerance. Oh my, now I'm REALLY scared! Sometimes people have so much confidence and bravado that it sounds like they know what they're talking about. She was clearly coached, and anything that wasn't in the "lesson plan" was fumbled terribly. She did not answer the questions that Charlie posed, and she danced around and around them. Props to Charlie for pressing her for specific answers, which were never forthcoming. She may get an "A" for Washington-speak, but she flunked the knowledge and readiness test in my book! Awful!

That's the GOP plan–manufacture fear in the world: danger, danger, danger everywhere! Country First! (sounds a little like idolatry). Let's keep everyone distracted and focused on this "scary post-911 world, " meanwhile our deficit is increasing, we are in debt to the Chinese, we need better health care and a plan to keep jobs in the US–just a few days ago we lost 100s of jobs down in Peachtree City, GA to Mexico. Where's the GOP plan for that? Silence...I am at a lost as to how Georgia is leading for McCain/Palin...

It's obvious that the media is consumed with bringing this woman down. Since her nomination by Sen. McCain, it's apparent by the polls that this team presents a legitimate threat against Obama/Biden. Those who support the Democratic team will do their utmost to scandalize her in any way possible. The media seems to be coming out with a new allegation every day and one wonders exactly how many people they have in Alaska researching her history. They will continue to scrutinize and attempt to rid this threat until it's done. Count on it and some wonder about "media bias". It's there folks!

There is ONE reason for all the liberal comments – FEAR. Fear of the hockey mom with a mission. Not ready for this responsibility??? That's bunk. It's about time a REAL American get elected. What the White House needs now – more than ever – is a mom with strength and values. Forget the rest of them – Palin is a REAL American – a pitbull with lipstick IF YOU CAN'T PLAY WITH THE BIG DOGS, STAY ON THE PORCH! Palin is it for 2008!

this job requires more than a blink.. A blink means you din't take time to thoughtfully think about the position, the people in America or your family.

You need to do more than blink about such an important position...

YOU NEED TO THINK..!!

***

Obama/Biden for real Leadership... not just a blink...

Michael   September 11th, 2008 7:32 pm ET

First off, let me say that I am an ardent supporter of Obama / Biden, so those Republican supports that read this can tak this however you wish to take this....

From what I have read of the transcripts an heard via video clip, she seems to take direction from handlers very well. I think it is very telling that she says she didn't even blink, when McCain asked her to be VEEP, hummmmm no thought of how this may effect your family? No thought to how this would effect your home state? Not a single pause to examine if you really really have what it takes to do the job?

"You have to be wired in a way of being so committed to the mission, the mission that we're on — reform of this country and victory in the war. You can't blink. So I didn't blink then even when asked to run as his running mate,"

This is the very reason we are in a War right now... because the current Republican Administration did not pause to think, they did not "Blink" as you say to determine if this was the right thing to do.

That is the very reason we are in the dire economic conditions we are in.
That is the very reason this Country is experiencing the problems abroad that we are.
Gov. Palin, do you know what happens to your eyes when you don't blink? They become dirty, you loses focus, you develop tunnel vision, you lose periperal vision , and eventually you lose the ability to see what you were looking at in the first place.
We cannot afford a POTUS / VPOTUS that are so "committed" that they refuse to see the forest for the trees.
We need a leader that will examine all possible solutions, that has shown wise judgement, sound logical thinking, a willingness to do what is necessaryt to safegaurd this great nation and its people, but not blindly and without thourough consideration.
I for one, do not want someone who pushes the button first, and asks the questions later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now do I really want McCain/Palin to run our country.......HELL NO I don't! But Jonny it is a free country and you may choose whoever you wish and I thank you for picking Palin because you just sealed your fate! Yippie......NO MORE BUSHY!!!

Nate   September 11th, 2008 7:31 pm ET

Accepting an invitation to be a VP nominee is what any politician would do, it's a heartbeat away of the pinnacle of politics. But...

Obama is truly something special. I'm surprised he's not furious with McCain after McCain's recent ad, the most deplorable ad I've seen in American politics in my lifetime. (Everyone should know which ad I mean.) He was cordial and kind, as he should be on a day of remembrance and mourning.

It's nice to know we can have a little breather and remind ourselves we're all part of the same country, and that the more we conceive of each other as enemies, the more any true enemies can take advantage of us.

PS – Any "democrat" for McCain can be only one of three things: A liar, a fool or a racist. Voting McCain/Palin goes against everything Democrats stand for, especially when we have two great champions running for the Democratic party. I have no problem with sticking with your party; Republican, Democrat, Independent or other; genuinely based on beliefs and values. But stop lying. Stop calling each other names, and stop making enemies of your fellow Americans. Please.

Obama/Biden 08 – Because of my values and beliefs. Simple.

I am continually amazed at the nonsensical, angry outbursts by certan people (Democrats). How can anyone support Obama, yet question Palin's experience? That is completely illogical as Palin has more EXECUTIVE, LEADERSHIP experience than Obama. Obama has never run anything. Being in charge, making the decisions AND taking responsibility for those decisions is something Obama has never done, but Palin has. This is a woman who has been the executive in charge for many years and she is ready.

Ready, willing and able! :)

Governor Palin is much more ready to be president than Obama.

Obama has no governing experience, and has a paper thin resume. He is an extreme left-wing guy selected by the media and the democratic party.

Obama's world view clashes with mainstream America! He is the narcissistic, arrogant egomaniac with the extreme views that are way out of touch with mainstream Americans! :(

I am a former democrat and Hillary supporter who will vote for McCain/Palin! They will deliver the authentic reforms Americans can believe in and do it with integrity! :)

I predict that when this election is over you people will find yourself in a minority. Obama is proving just how unready he is for the white house by his sexist remarks and his hysteria about Palen. He needs to get down to issues and cut the attacks by his people against Palen. The way he is going he is giving the election to the republicans.

That makes me very happy because Obama scares me to death.

Arent you the same Republicans that criticized Obama for Saying he would bomb Pakistan if he had intelligence of where Osama was????????

Guess what? Bush gave the military permisson to act!!!!

Guess Obama was CORRECT yet again on another of many foreign policies! Yet no one will admit it!!!!

Big-Haired Problem   September 11th, 2008 7:26 pm ET

I guess Queenie didn't hesitate. Would you? if some fool told you that you could be the VP and you didn't have to know anything because they'd keep you from the press, you'd take that job too. She has nothing to lose, as long as he doesn't die. If he wins the election, easy street, she'll just travel the world. If he loses the election, she'll be more famous and run when she really gets some experience. If he dies...well then HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM. A big-haired problem.

America deserves a serious candidate

brian   September 11th, 2008 7:26 pm ET

Doesn't surprise me. Someone so cocky and arrogant would indeed think they can take on the world – that is, until they understand the world...

Al   September 11th, 2008 7:26 pm ET

All I got from the clips I heard was more vision of WAR WAR WAR
and victory at what cost ! thousands of more troops killed and maimed and the economy lower than it is which would be the sewer
and people in food lines!!

If they ever got in power and she got to be president and the 3 am call came she would say its *its Gods war let him take care of it*
its one scarry thought this woman would be a heartbeat away from the presidency

Sue   September 11th, 2008 7:26 pm ET

We will have a Hockey Mom as VP and very soon President... yipeee.

Natalee in Canada   September 11th, 2008 7:25 pm ET

Didn't she stop to think about her family and the incredible impact her decision would have on them? or if she was even ready, espeially in light of the fact that she is not experienced or at all schooled in foreign policy...if this is a reflection of how she'll make decisions in the White House...then, America be prepared for some craziness for sure!

Lori   September 11th, 2008 7:25 pm ET

So, this woman would go to war with Russia?

IS SHE NUTS ?????

We don't have to wait for the LHC to kill us all, we have Palin !!

Concern Voter   September 11th, 2008 7:25 pm ET

This campaign should be about the issues not people's personalities and i don't think Ms
Palin is not ready yet. How can you not think about being a vp candidate to really make sure that you and your family is really for this leap. This is not a game this is serious. I know she is a woman but people "vote" on the issues not personalities because if McCain dies she would be a heartbeat from the Presidency.

GEORGE MCCAIN/SARAH POWLENTY '08   September 11th, 2008 7:25 pm ET

Great, just what America needs TWO hot heads that act first and then ask the questions for justification. One that "shoots from the hip"(loose cannon) and that considers "not blinking"(needs a opthomoligical appointment) is now a qualification for running the country? YIKES!

This ticket is looking more like the "Bush doctrine" everyday.

Hopefully, while in the "cone of silence" they have briefed her on the duties of the VP. Now they can start on the "Bush doctrine".

GGEEEZZZZ!

MarioB. from Berlin FOR OBAMA   September 11th, 2008 7:25 pm ET

nice sarah mcFailin....
THE SAME OLD BUSH-staff was teaching you, what to answer... come on...this interview is a farce...she was exactly tought, what to say. It's not her real views... it's a shame, this puppet is VP-candidate...

Obame 08... The REAL man, the REAL leader, the fixer of REAL problems and the man that is focussing at REAL ISSUES!!!

And come on Guys... forget about experience... what about a Lincoln, what about a Clinton. They got marked as inexperienced, too but became GREAT presidents!

Canada   September 11th, 2008 7:25 pm ET

Prior to accepting the VP position, she had no idea what the VP did. Good to see such an informed decision....why blink when you don't what you are doing.

Alex Gilliam jr   September 11th, 2008 7:25 pm ET

I honestly believe that by 20th January 2009, with all the after hours coaching, tutoring and lessons being given to Sarah Palin by white house/McCain advisers, she will be absolutely ready for the job. Hopefully after being sworn in we should start the Iran and Russian war at the same time. If we could vote Bush twice, why not Palin? It will take America a generation or if we are lucky just 60 years to learn not to vote based on stupid excitements, sentiments and emotions. Am with with Sarah! Up Sarah, hip! hip hip!

Dr. Mary   September 11th, 2008 7:25 pm ET

She's ready? From the day he asked? She has any inkling of foreign policy? Global politics? Military defense? She says you focus on the mission. Gee, let's not let reality get in the way of the mission. Let's not actually THINK. This is just like the junk science she supports - don't let facts actually affect your dogma.

Will Haupt   September 11th, 2008 7:25 pm ET

Sarah Palin had said when asked shortly after accepting the offer to be McCain's running mate, that she was suprised, that she did not even prepare an acceptance speach, because she did not think she would be the one he offered the spot too. I would love to hear her reasons as to why she felt she was not going to be asked to be McCain's running mate.
Maybe because she knew that she was not the most qualified of the possible choices that he had?

Nimesh   September 11th, 2008 7:25 pm ET

Hpw does an individual make such a profound decision without a blink.......no thought went behind the enormous task at hand. So this is what her 3.am call would sound like........ring ring.....Palin.....nuke them. Hang up! She did not have to blink cause her eyes were closed!!! Very scary.....very very scary. This canidate has no regard for anything other then power.....

Jacob   September 11th, 2008 7:25 pm ET

She is a wonderful and wise woman with strong family values. What more could we want in a V.P? ? Too bad so many don't appreciate this.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   September 11th, 2008 7:25 pm ET

"Victory in the war". Hasn't Palin listen to the latest coming from top commanders who stated "we can't kill our way to victory", apparently not. Palin didn't blink because it appears she doesn't think things through, just responds irresponsibily. Americans are done with irresponsible thinking because it hasn't ended a war we should have never started and it has all but destroy our economy. You would think Palin would have asked questions but then again why should she, McCain only asked her one question after meeting her two times. So what we have is two dead heads.

Johanna not voting GOP   September 11th, 2008 7:25 pm ET

Ouch!!!

I want a vice president who is better, wiser, well-traveled, has met world leaders, who three months ago had an opinion on Iraq. Someone who doesn't repeat bald- faced lies about earmarks and the Bridge to Nowhere.

David in Indian Wells   September 11th, 2008 7:24 pm ET

Speaking of blinking, the sign that someone is lying, watch McCain speak. He has been blinking non-stop every time he speaks lately.

I guess his conscience is getting to him.

Secondly, anyone who would accept the second highest office in the nation without discussing it with their family is a power hungry person and someone with impulsive behavior. Not a good quality for this serious of a position of power.

pa.joe   September 11th, 2008 7:24 pm ET

Democrats attacking Palin is just what the republicans want.
Instead of attacking her character attack the failed policies she endorses.
failed economic policies
failed national security policies
failed energy policies
failed education policies
failed health care policies
Palin and McCain support the same Bush policies that have driven this country to the verge of disaster.
This is what we need to keep reminding our fellow Americans of everyday until the election!!
We can not afford 4 more years of failure!!

Kathy   September 11th, 2008 7:24 pm ET

I read the excerpts from her interview and she doesn't even know what the "BUSH DOCTRINE" is . Which is to preemptive strike our enemies at any time if we perceive an eminent threat.
I think this is something our VP should know

Help Us ALL!!   September 11th, 2008 7:24 pm ET

RapidRay   September 11th, 2008 7:24 pm ET

I just gave up all hope on the Republicans answering ANY QUESTIONS ON ISSUES before November!

Sarah Palin looked like she wanted to hit Charlie Gibson in the face throughout the whole thing. Her body language was that of an young boxer in the ring with the world's champion...verbally ducking and weaving questions, throwing feints in between commas, and praying the bell would sound in time to end the round. When pressed for direct answers, she blocked as best she could.

Bottom line....this woman now officially scares the living begeezus out of me.
McCain would have done better hiring a temp.

Well, Palin should have blinked quite a few times and thought about her daughter Bristol and that adorable 5 month old baby before she said yes to McCain.

Is it just me, or did she begin answering Mr. Gibson's questions before he could almost get them out? Her responses to the interview questions came accross as though she had been given the questions way ahead of time and had scripted most of her answers. Gov. Palin doesn't appear to be much of a thinker and seems to throw caution to the wind. Just what we need-another NO BRAINER running the country!

As I watch the Sarah Palin interview I wonder why ABC New felt it was necessary to edit Mrs. Palin answers to the questions. It was clear her full statements were not included in this interview. ABC News should allow the viewers to decide what is important information and what we should filter out. As a major network I did not expect this from ABC. As women we should not receive special treatment because we're women. We must learn how to play with the big boys!

Anyonmous   September 11th, 2008 7:22 pm ET

And let those haters from the Obama side soil this thread too.

I am sure for every intelligent Obama supporter there are may more haters.

The Dems are getting the reputation of being the party of the intolerant and hate filled stereotypes spreaders.

You do it to yourselves its ironic how they not only throw the mud but throw it by the bucket full but they only dirty themselves

You are hurting you parties reputation and loosing respect but I am sure this will be, just another, in a long list of things you will blame on the right.

IDU   September 11th, 2008 7:22 pm ET

I just heard her interview.

She sounds like a computerized robot continually being fed information through a USB port (more like a parallel port) attached to her brain from a laptop of a slow typing McCain campaign adviser. I think that adviser needs to learn to type faster.

She seemed to be very uncomfortable answering questions, I really question her readiness for being the potential POTUS. I feel McCain made a very irresponsible choice of picking her for the job. McCain is going to lose this election due to his cynicism. What a joke!!!

joe   September 11th, 2008 7:22 pm ET

She ran away from her own unambiguous comments about God's Plan, which makes her akin to a modern day Judas. This is who we are seriously considering to perhaps be leader of our country? Have we lost our collective minds?

Lesley   September 11th, 2008 7:22 pm ET

More tough questioning is required from the media in interviews going forward. No fluff stuff please! Let's see if they dumb down the VP debate to accommodate her. Will she agree to be interviewed by Bill O'Reilly? Would he hold her feet to the fire? I have my doubts.

What's with the jumps in the editing. It's like some questions and answers were oddly truncated.

She didn't know what the Bush Doctrine was, so she responded with a question looking for a clue: "In what respect, Charlie?"

Tomorrow she has to prepare for five minutes of Economy statements

Why not investigate an inexperienced politician who is only good at accummulating $ 1 billions in earmark over 4 years of his short political career?
Obama gets a discount of $300,000 for his $1.95 million dollar house with help from corrupt slum lord, Rezko. Housing violations in 11 housing projects of Rezko in Obama's constituency goes ignored.
Rezko is mentored by racist preacher...Jeremiah Wright who liberally use the word, God for the wrong purpose on the pulpit.

In my view, Mrs. Palin's current family crisis (pregnant daughter and newborn) is sure to have a psychological impact on the Governor and her family.

McCain, 72, was pretty clear that he deserves to be the President. Hopefully, he will retire now.

Duke   September 11th, 2008 7:20 pm ET

This week and maybe next week will mark McCain's high water mark in this campaign. Even at the high water mark it is questionable as to whether he can win an electoral victory. It is only down hill for McCain from here. The shine is going to wear off of Palin. Expect a decent sized electoral victory for Obama. Popular vote could go for McCain, but he will clearly loose in th electoral college.

Pundits are talkin about Obama winning Ohio. If Obama wins Ohio, McCain has absolutely no chance whatsoever. This thing is not as close as people want to believe.

LindaJ   September 11th, 2008 7:20 pm ET

Just watched Sarah Palin with Charlie Gibson. Here are my impressions.

She memorized as much as she could and kind of whined the responses which were peppered with lots of "Charlies".

She flunked foreign affairs completely and tried to divert the questioning to energy...it didn't work.

Her references to Russia were both frightening and laughable.

Her references to God's plan in relation to the war were again frightening.

She didn't even know what "Bush's doctrine" was. I didn't either, but I am not running for Vice President.

Charlie was much tougher than I imagined and she did much worse than I imagined. No wonder they kept her locked up.

Can't wait for more tomorrow. This barely scratches the surface.

American Airman   September 11th, 2008 7:18 pm ET

I don't think that her answers were any worse than Senator Obama stumbling all over himself while being interviewed by either Rick Warren, or Bill O'Reilly. Sure there was some uneasiness in some of her answers, but I have seen the same uneasiness and worse from Senator Obama, and he is running for the Presidency, not the Vice-Presidency.

Truth be told, I believe that she is exactly what this nation needs, especially at this critical time in our nation.

David   September 11th, 2008 7:18 pm ET

I just caught snippets of the interview on the ABC evening news. Two immediate thoughts: I wonder if anyone else caught that she referred to the president of Iran several times as Akmadinijad (its Ahmadinijad)? And she kept saying the we shouldn't "hesitate to blink." Does that mean she and McCain wouldn't "hesitate to think" before reacting to a crisis?

CM   September 11th, 2008 7:18 pm ET

How much longer can they allow her and McCain to be protected from the press? I watched McCain in an interview today and he couldn't even answer the questions asked.

Sorry state of affairs on the GOP side of the house.

USAF Staff Sergeant   September 11th, 2008 7:16 pm ET

Did anybody else notice she didn't know what the Bush Doctrine was?

When asked if she agreed with it, she asked "in what respect?".

Gibson explained it to her (That the U.S. has the right to attack preemptively) and she stumbled to give an answer without a yes or no.

She has no clue on any of the issues. It was scary.

When asked if Israel were to attack Iran preemptively, would she support them. She THREE times refused a yes or no answer.

Americans should be worried about the fact that Palin "didn't blink" before accepting McCain's offer. Just the kind of knee-jerk, shoot-first-ask-questions-later this country doesn't need.

Palin would be bad for our country. She isn't ready for this level of responsibility.

Saw an excerpt a little while ago on the Situation Room on one of her answers to Charlie Gibson's question, and she paraphrased wording from the Declaration of Independence, totally avoiding the subject of God, which the question was directed toward.
