Weigh in with CNN's analysts and contributors.
(CNN) –On the anniversary of the September 11 attacks, presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama each take the stage to discuss service and civic engagement in a forum at Columbia University.
What do you think of their ideas? How does the role of service determine what kind of nation we live in? What does national service mean to you?
Along with CNN Senior Political Correspondent Candy Crowley, CNN Senior Political Analyst Bill Schneider, CNN Political Analyst Roland Martin, and Republican strategist Bay Buchanan, thousands of you weighed in.

It is clear that McCain does not understand the criteria for joining the Peace Corp. or Teach America. The college graduates who join these organizations are the very well educated, the "cream of the crop" and not kids who are looking for monetary gain. They make great sacrifices (especially in the Peace Corp) and live in conditions no better than the people they are helping. Obama is so right when he comments on McCain being out of touch. Quite obviously McCain does not want to spend a dime on service, unless of course you are in the milatary!!!!!!!
He is never specific...he answers with slogans...I expect to hear "Hard Work" and "Mission Accomplished" any second now!
wow, I didnt put the two together.... Bay and Pat siblings. No wonder....
Glad he is off!
I don't accept the premice McCCain said that if Sen Obama would have accepted his invitation for town hall meetings across the country there would not be negative campaigining.
NEED TO ASK. . .DID MCCAIN JUST SAY THAT "PEOPLE HAVE SERVED IN U.S. MILITARY, JUST TO BECOME A CITIZEN"?
I didn't like the fact my school didn't have a ROTC program, I wanted to do it.
McCain praises military service for its ability to have people of different backgrounds mix and learn from each other.
Unless you're gay of course.
LET'S get ready for Obama! Obama! Obama!
Is it me or was the applause longer for Obama?
You here that America...
WE DECIDE WHAT IS AN ACCEPTABLE CAMPAIGN WITH OUR VOTES!!!
IF WE WANT BETTER OF OUR POLITICIANS WE MUST DEMAND IT...
VOTE FOR REAL CHANGE FOR THE BETTER.
VOTE FOR OBAMA/BIDEN '08
The Back Ground looks more like the Obama Logo thing
Why don,t anyone call this what it is a stunt by McCain picking Palvin. Hes a bigger flip flop than bush. First it was experience now its change next it will be whos the oldest
lol @ Pat steals my material!
This is very unorganized. I heard the lady just ask "Is it Obama now?'" She needs to realize that we can hear every word.
Great comment, Roland. Although, we really do decide whether we want dirty campaigns by voting for Bush twice and the fact that half of AMericans may vote for McCain. We allow this kind of campaigning to take place by continuing to vote for the nastiest candidates. So politicians think dirty tactics work...because apparently they do.
Well, How about that Palin huh, what a godsend but who the heck is she? She is already saying war with Russia? The American Red Cross is broke and we have Hurricane Ike ready to nail Texas our fearless leaders home state. I believe the republicans prayed for the bad weather during the democrats national convention. Everything is bigger in texas even the Hurricane's. Does Sarah Palin have any experience in selling candy bars for red cross fundraising? I gotta go fill the tank before the oil wells are uprooted and prices rise due to republican's prayers.
Watch Bay Buchanan trash everything Obama says..... Lemme go get my popcorn.
I agree with you Richard.. I cant stand it..
Obama people in the house tonight
WOW! dID YOU HEAR THAT RESPONSE WHEN OBAMA WAS INTRODUCED?
Ok now watch the master do his work! GO OBAMA!!!
Its amazing how McCain never seems to answer a question
We already had one "slick willie" in the white house. He brought shame to himself and the nation. Obama sounds a lot like him, only more socialistic. I saw on the news the two met today...any word on the outcome of their meeting?
Sounds like Democrats crowd!
