CNN poll of polls: McCain ahead by two points

Sen. Obama trails Sen. McCain by two points in Friday's CNN poll of polls.
Sen. Obama trails Sen. McCain by two points in Friday's CNN poll of polls.

(CNN) – Sen. John McCain continues to have a slight advantage over rival Sen. Barack Obama in the latest CNN poll of polls released Friday afternoon. McCain is now ahead by 2 percentage points – 46 percent to Obama’s 44 percent - with 10 percent unsure about their choice for president. In Thursday’s CNN poll of polls, McCain was ahead by one point – 46 percent to 45 percent.

“The race for the White House has essentially been a dead heat since the Republican Convention,” noted CNN Senior Political Researcher Alan Silverleib. “Barring something dramatic and unexpected, the horserace numbers are not likely to change very much at least until the debates. As we inch closer to Election Day, the pool of truly undecided voters continues to shrink.”

Friday’s CNN poll of polls is comprised of the following three surveys: Fox News/Opinion Dynamics (September 8-9), Gallup (September 9-11), and Diageo/Hotline (September 9-11). The poll of polls does not have a sampling error.

These polls are not the be all to end all.If you look closer the advantage for McCain is mainly focused in the south in the states that are already republican. The Electoral will decide.Interesting to note most allies polls in their own countries have Obama ahead by a landslide. The countries that want to see America rise again all want Obama to win so that the healing can begin.Interesting to see Palin interview and note that she used the words "no blinking" a few times but she sure blinked at most questions and did not give an answer without being asked the questions more then once. Most of your freinds and neighbors are rooting for you Dems.Go get em !!!!

  3. Liars Ahead?

Liars lead in the polls? It just goes to show how low McCain and Palin will go to grab power. I remember the days when children looked up the President and some even aspired to be President. With people like Bush and McCain – it has and will continue to be a position of dishonesty and corruption. How sad that people are eating the "dog" food being spewed by McCain and Palin. They have been caught over and over lying on their past and lying on issues. When are voters going to get that they cannot be trusted? Is this the kind of characterless leadership you really want in the White House? I find both of them disgusting and disgraceful. Obama and Biden have been telling the truth from the beginning. No one has accused them of lying or exaggerating their past. They speak of real plans to address the issues affecting our daily lives. I will be voting for character, integrity, and honesty which means Obama and Biden.

Hillary Clinton needs to leave the democratic pary a few months after this election, join the Republicans and run in 2012 as a Republican! :)

Hillary is not a part of the socialist/fascist left-wing that has taken over the democratic party! She is a moderate!

    McCain Palin 08!

Do you expect us to believe this crap? You did not report for at least three days according to YOUR POLL of POLLs that you were showing McCain only one point ahead. Why not headline the electorial vote polls? It paints the total opposite picture OBAMA 243 to McCain 189? Go ahead, I dare you to headline these numbers? What's wrong, too much of how people are TRULY voting? Don't think you can continue to bring in the tabloid, circus ratings right? I beginning to wonder about the integrity of professional journalism.

Polls sample a VERY small percentage of voters which should be listed with the poll numbers along with, the party percentage, age group polled, time of day called, the fact that cell numbers are off limits and questions asked should all be list with the polls these can effect the results by a measureable percentage. Polls during the past year should shown them for what they are...pretty much unless.

So many polls are MSM driven and that adds to keeping their ratings up, give me the days when news programs were not rating driven but there to inform the nation.

All of you people who are excited about having a pretty, hockey mom for a potentialVP or even president of this country had better start looking at McCain & Palin on the issues, and not at her legs or McCain's heart touching story of his POW days! They won't change from the way Bush and the rest of the Republicans have been doing things. Don't listen to the lies from their lips, look at what and whom they've been supporting…..Bush's failed policies! They have both voted in support of all of Bush's "things to mess up" list, over and over again….and will continue to do so.

Bush Doctrin Sarah, what the hell is it????

Elect a president who doesn't know how to use a computer or send an email. Who doesn't know anything about the economy.

This will all change come debate time. Heck, McCain couldn't even stand up to the women on The View, let alone having to deal with world leaders if he were Commander in Chief. He can't even remember how he voted in most interviews (" Let me have my staff get to you on that"), let alone know how much Sarah Palin took (and KEPT) in earmarks for Alaska. I am betting that the President has to be a good deal sharper than THAT tack called John McCain. Obama will prevail in the debates and can't wait for the Sarah Palin smackdown when Joe gets to her in debates. Numbers will SOAR for the Obama/Biden team!
    OBAMA/BIDEN '08 & '12 YES WE CAN!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been an Obama supporter from the start, as have my elderly mother, my husband, my sister, my children who attend the University of Michigan, my brother and sister-in-law in Ohio, my 5 best friends, my 7th grader's teachers, my ex-sister-in-law and her new husband, my UPS delivery lady, etc., and guess what? Not one of us has been polled-ever! Don't lose hope Obama/Biden supporters, we will win in November, and we will win big!
Keep the faith, keep the hope, Obama/Biden 08!

John McCain I want to know What have you done for our country lately?

Someone that has held the same office for 23 years should be running on their record ( 90 – 95 % with Bush ) or produce legislation that helped reform Washington politics.

Instead take on a VP without vetting who has allegations of misuse of office levy against her. The Mayor in Detroit will soon serving his sentance. I don't know has a VP ever been impeached?

  21. Single Professional Mother for OBAMA

Its amazing that Republicans proclaim victory with the announcement of these polls–its incredulous really. As Americans begin to get over the excitement of a woman being named as VP candidate and begin to get angry about the joke she really is, things will certainly change. In addition, truth is powerful and we absolutely know that McCain has an aversion to the truth. Naming Palin as VP candidate is really a slap in the face to many. Surely there are female Republicans who are truly qualified to lead the amazing USA on day 1–Sarah Palin is not the person. She should go back to making sure the trash is collected and the potholes are filled in her community!

Democratic voter registration is through the roof some I think asking 548 people what they happen to think on any given day is a bit of stretch in predicting victory. We are one John McCain heart palpitation away from an Obama landslide.

why does the poll of polls have no sampling of error? every poll has a margin of error, unless you asked every single registered voter. to be honest, neither party should get too excited about this poll, since its accuracy is clearly questionable.

on a side note...was anyone else expecting Palin to start insisting Charles Gibson go to candy mountain with her?....Charlie....Charlie...

Everyone knows the polls are way off...you should probably keep track of the AGEs of the people being interviewed, and I'd be that not many are under 30. Young people will get out there to vote in DROVES, and that will be the most important thing. We're all too smart for being suckered into accepting Palin.
