Investigator wants subpoena for Palin's husband

Todd Palin sat with his wife, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, during the final night of the Republican convention.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) - A special counsel has asked Alaskan lawmakers to subpoena Gov. Sarah Palin's husband and a dozen aides as part of the investigation into Palin's firing of her public safety commissioner.

Todd Palin has been a "principal critic" of his wife's ex-brother-in-law, State Trooper Mike Wooten, and had "many contacts" with Department of Public Safety officials about his status, said Steve Branchflower, the former prosecutor hired by the state Legislature to investigate the firing.

Sarah Palin, now the Republican nominee for vice president, is battling allegations that she and her advisers pressured then-Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan to fire Wooten - and that Monegan was canned when he refused.

Palin has said she fired Monegan over budget issues and denies any wrongdoing.

I think it's only fair the "first dude" as he refers to himself, gets subpoena'd..afterall he has been mentioned all along as having made calls, etc in refernce to the pressure being put on the safety commissioner...and all this was BEFORE sarah palin was chosen VP....so no one can cry it's becuz democrats are jealous of his wife's stardom. I'm sure mcsame will have the Bush writers script him a lie and a self praising "I'm a rotweiler w/snowmobile boots" comment to rebuff anything being said about him. The Sarh Palin claims to be just as normal as the rest of us hockey moms.....so like the rest of us...they should have to face judgement and be accountable for their doings. ...and if they were involved in the unjust firing..then they need to be primanded....God forbid they be exposed for abuse of power. I'm sure mcsame will try and have the trial, investigations, subpoenas, etc held over and prolonged.....and if he doesn't get his way...the democrats can expect more negative ads..ha!.....afterall obama didn't agree to HIS demands of townhalls so that is the reason behind the negative ads...lol!

This punk cop threatened to shoot Sarah Palin's father. Todd Palin was simply standing up and defending his family. Any respectable man would do the same.

Same old dirty political BS. We should thank Sarah Palin for causing Obama to show his true colors.
You're running scared, Mr. Obama–a desperate man, and we love it.

Honestly, which ever way it goes I hope the truth of it all comes out. I'm sick of hearing anything about Sarah Palin. I swear. You'd think SHE was running for president!

Oh, and Barbara Walters is my nwe hero. Get 'em Barb! Show these mediocre journalists how to get the truth out of these politicians without resorting to bullying like Bill O'Reilly!

McCain: make the right choice, dump Palin for Huckabee. It's the only sane choice.

This is clearly a concerted attempt to make her look bad because she is wipign the floor with obama. Read the facts of that case, she did nothing wrong whatsoever. Too funny. Nice attempt but McCain-Palin will win the election.

If what is alleged about Wooten's behavior is true, her efforts to have him fired are a good thing in my book.

    >And of course this is not in the least politically motivated.

These charges against her were out there and this investigation was being pursued before she was selected as the VP candidate – and that's FACT. If McCain had done his homework, he'd have KNOWN that. But since it was initially reported that McCain only met her ONCE before selecting her as the VP candidate, it has become obvious that there was only way McCain was "Checking her out." And it wasn't fact finding.

For those saying this is politically motivated – IT STARTED BEFORE SHE WAS SELECTED – and the independent commission has both republicans and democrats on it. The only thing that's changed is that since being selected for VP, she stopped cooperating.

In fact, she was warned about messing with this trooper BY A JUDGE – BEFORE SHE EVEN MAYOR OF WASILLA.

Saying the dems are behind this is utterly and completely ignorant of the history of the events.

Hey folks, this little drama was going on long before McCain tapped her to be the VP so don't try to blame this on liberals or Democrats. Ms Palin is responsible for her on behavior on "Troopergate".

Well if this investigation goes anywhere like the Obama /Resko investigation she will come out just fine. Hopefully the same witch hunt will go back to Obama and his Chicago connections. With the admitted DRUG usage and the RADICAL teachings at his 20 yr. church and lets not forget friends with a know murderer and criminal and his very good price on his home that all would be happy to be buddies with that friend , Right Obama . The wife who got a large pay raise when dear ole hubby got earmarks for her employer. Hopefully they will ask Michelle to face the Jury against her criminal husband. Then Hillary could win. All in this real crooked world of Politics. I will still vote for John and Sarah, that is a fact.

great work cnn-stay on top of the Palin story-you seem to have some sense of public responsibility by providing all information you uncover whether it's good or bad for the both parties-hopefully you can provide enough information so that the American people will see how important it is not to vote mccain/palin-for the sake of yourself and for the rest of the world that saw palin speak WAR with the Russians

    VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN 2008

"What is her husband to do with her conduct and performance of her job as Governor?"

    Are you serious?

I guess by that scale, what does Michelle Obama have to do with Obama's conduct and performance as a Senator. Are we doing it that way? I'd be overjoyed if we were.

Why is this investigation even going on?

Monegan already said that Palin wasn't involved in trying to get Wooten fired.

Can someone please tell me why there is no accountability for the blatant lies, smears and misrepresentations portrayed in the McCain ads? Not everyone has access to sites such as factcheck.org. How is McCain permitted to continue to put out bad information with no repercussions? Why isn't he telling the truth??

Okay. Palin fired him over "budget issues".

Does that mean that she had eliminated the job position? That she eliminated the highest law enforcement job in the state? I don't think so. That reasoning is weak.
