Palin's position on stem cell research is at odds with McCain's.

WASILLA, Alaska (CNN) – Sarah Palin is putting her opposition to stem cell research on the back burner for the sake of the Republican ticket.

John McCain's campaign released a radio ad Friday that calls he and Palin "mavericks" who will, if elected, back stem cell research "to help free families from the fear and devastation of illness."

"Medical breakthroughs to help you get better, faster," says the radio ad, which according to the campaign is running in key battleground states. "Change is coming. McCain, Palin and congressional allies. The leadership and experience to really change Washington and improve your health."

McCain and his campaign have said the senator supports research that uses stem cells, including the embyronic variety. But Palin does not.

Questioned about the issue in a debate during the 2006 race for Alaska governor, Palin invoked her "pro-life position" and referred to "that centeredness that I have of respecting life and the potential of every human life."

She added that she could not support research that "would ultimately end in destruction of life."

Palin's spokesperson Maria Comella confirmed those remarks constitute Palin's position, but said that "a McCain-Palin administration will be pro-stem cell research."

Even though Palin opposes it?

"Yep," Comella said.

Forget the fact that she differs with McCain on anything (i.e. drilling in ANWAR, stem cell research, abortion in cases of rape or incest). This is what the Republicans wants. A pretty face to offset those "disaffected" Clinton voters. I'm just shocked that the American people are really falling for John McCain's "Tomfoolery." How absurd!

This from the guy who said he doesn't like to exaggerate? So much for that. I can tell you, Palin won't be for stem cell research (then again, he probably will be sending her to funerals and such; anyone who thinks she'll be a powerful VP is gravely mistaken; McCain knows she's not qualified and will not put her within 50 feet of an important decision).

The greatest country in the world and an infrastructure which falls apart. Sure. beleive that old man.

When I see these micky mouse levis at the cost lines, it makes me laugh and cry.

Obama at least wants to divert money from the war to start fixing american infrastructures. McCain und Sarah Palin could care less if a few thousand lives are lost, as long as their is money left for lobbyists.
Change from Bush to McCain, thats the big slogan right know. Oh now he carefully voids talking what his real plans are, because he hasnt got any yet, which is with republicans typical, from year to year the same bs . So he distrats voters with lipsstick talk, his experience (he hes very little) Palins profit on a Jet and so forth.

He wont do on levis anything worth while.

Europeans are building shoreline levis for more than 500 years, when they offered advise, they were told, we know how to fix them, your ideas cost too much money. But there is always money for wars.
Thats what Bush and McSame think of you people. Trust me and I tell you what we do after the election.
McCain wants a reward of Bush's 8 years of failed policies.

Anyone voting for McCain really has to feelings for this country.

CNN should point those facts out, rather then chasing all day after Sarah Palin to get more of lies and lipstick talk out in the news.

Wake up america and taky your country back.

Vote Obama / Biden in november.

COUNTRY FIRST McCAIN / PALIN   September 12th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

COUNTRY FIRST

John McCain and Sarah Palin will put country first.

Obama and his handlers will suck the very life out of this great country.
He will promise you everything and give you nothing.

Want to know the kind of people who support obama………….. then just read their disgraceful comments when they post. These people have no respect for anything or anyone. They all share the idea that obama is going to somehow adopt them.

Syndi   September 12th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

The polls are rigged. Who are the pollsters calling? Majority Republicans? There is nothing honest and decent in this world. Sen. Obama is trying to restore integrity and transparency back to governing, but it's obvious that the people would much rather believe lies than the truth. It's so clear that McCain lied – but he just won't admit it – no matter what. Why is America trusting someone who hides the truth? Haven't you had ENOUGH of people being sneaky and distrustful?

Dear Fellow Citizens   September 12th, 2008 9:57 pm ET

so if a President McCain is replaced by Palin……

then do we have major policy changes !?……………..

(This is very very ….very ………!?!?!?( ummm, I am absolutly speechless))

Observer   September 12th, 2008 9:55 pm ET

This is change? Mrs. Palin's position sounds like the same as the conservative right's position on stem cell research. I haven't seen even one bit of evidence to show that she's any different than the majority of the right wing of the GOP. That's probably why the McCain camp won't let her be interviewed by SERIOUS reporters–people will see right through her thin veneer in two seconds. Come on, Senator McCain, let her tell the American people where she really stands on the issues. You can't keep her hidden forever, you know!

Rebecca - Michigan   September 12th, 2008 9:55 pm ET

If Obama had selected Hillary Clinton they would have selected a MAN and attacked Hillary like there was no tomorrow. Get a clue America. The McCain camp is playing you people like a bunch of naive idiots.

rory ryan   September 12th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

No Hillary = No Obama   September 12th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

You know what. John McCain really is his own person. He outsmarted Mr. Harvard by his Palin pick and now Obama is lagging. I think McCain and Palin do not agree on a variety of issues and stem cell is one. Palin was the winning ticket – but McCain runs the show. I think people will be very surpised and pleased by the decisions he will make while President. He will leave an everlasting legacy that betters this country. Wait and see.

TIRED OF THE GOP   September 12th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

Sounds just like her new UNCLE'S ROVE & McCain.

Trying are trying teach her to be just G.W. Bush with lip stick.

They are starting early on this her… Because they might lose this one so they are thikning they better pull out all the stops.

You know when she answered a question about her "insight into Russian actions" with: "you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska", I thought I was listening to a child in Kindergarten or something. It's sad but we learned you can't trust them it only took eight years for some.

Max   September 12th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Seriously, how can people be blinded enough to vote for Sarah Palin. On her first interview (the ABC one) she was already talking about war with Russia??? …While we already have enough trouble in Iraq? That's not tough talk, that's unexperience and stupidity.

Tired of LIES   September 12th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

I am just SICK of this man lying and misleading people everyday. His side kick is just as bad. What a pair!

Sarah Palin is not qualified to answer that red phone at 3am when McCain dies.

PJ, New York Independent   September 12th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

Once again… JOHN MCCAIN IS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT, NOT SARAH PALIN! As far as Sarah Palin goes… she DOES welcome stem cell research (as she stated in the interview with Charles Gibson). She just doesn't agree with 'creating life' to destroy it, like embryonic does. She made it pretty clear she welcomes other forms of stem cell research, such as skin, which is already promising major results. Also from the placenta, another major break through.

Also, the liberals still have not learned their lesson… the meaningless attacks are not working!

Have you learned nothing CNN, even after FOX News called you on your 'lies' when reporting the news?

all american   September 12th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

I have been following this interview with Charles Gibson with D
Sarah Palin. And I did hear a lot of the "Male " media say it wasn't a fair interview. As Bill OReily pointed out some of the questions even the media couldnt answer . "Do you approve of the Bush doctorate?" The truth is there was no one doctorate so the answer could be anything you want. Yet the women on cnn have discrited Palin for her answer. Palin look very collected to me and look Gibson in the eye on her answers. Yet cnn claims she was unsure and nervious. Give me a break. I would like to know why this type of questions wasn't asked of Clinton,Obama and McClain. As for her religion, whats the big deal? Everyone seems to except Obamas when it was clearly anti american. And what about his friends all anti american. What do you really know about him? I think the women of cnn are showing the green eyed cat. And if you want to talk issues. maybe you should look at Obama he has changed his mind on every issue he campaigned on. Maybe thats the change he is talking about. As for being a weak canadidate no one is weaker then Obama. The .dmc gave him the election he didn't win it. And all the campaigning against Hillary calling her same old Politics. Well now he's begging for the Clintons to help him , he cant win the election on his own. And wasn't he the one that complained that he thought it was unfair both of the Clintons were campaiging against him. Now look what he's doing. And the lip stick issue was over the hill. He knew that the public would not know that "a pig with lipstick is still a pig" is a political saying. and the supporters reaction shows that they all thought he was talking abut Pailin. But he got off the hook calling it phony politics. This is what he does he will discredit someone then say i didnt meant that, when You would have to be a fool to beleive him. He has done athis ato many times along with the race card he keeps trying to play. I am an independent. But I can tell you this I will never vote for someone that acks like Obama. I'll take McCain anyday at least I know who he is, And why dosn't the meda check out Obamas earmarks and how many thimes he voted for Bush policies. It was more then mcCain did. Did any of you dummies look that up?

Rebecca - Michigan   September 12th, 2008 9:49 pm ET

What a wonderful country we live in. We have a honored POW who able to campaign for the highest office in the nation and distort the truth and in some cases make blatant lies and get away with it. And then he says he is a reformer. So we have a POW reformer who lies. What a wonderful country.

Annie   September 12th, 2008 9:48 pm ET

I have diabetes and would love to see stem cell research continued. If there are embryos sitting around in freezers across the country that will eventually be thrown out, let's go for it. Research with skin cells is still years away. Does the pro life segment suggest that we turn all those embryos into people? I'm a little confused. And I must state here that I myself don't believe in abortion (or capital punishment), but don't disrespect another's right to choose.

J.L.   September 12th, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Cuing outrage by religious right…

Or they willing to not stand by their principles so McCain and Palin gets elected? I think that would spell out H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-S-Y…

Or do they have a deal where once McCain/Palin gets into office, McCain will go back on his word and be anti-stem cell?

Nevada dude   September 12th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

Who is writing your copy that would not know how to use pronouns correctly? This would be unbelievably poor form for a high school student, much less published news.

Palin and McCain are both idiots. I am sick and tired of hearing about all these polls that have McCain ahead. Nobody I knew was polled and all my friends and family are for Obama. Why can't these pollers poll people who are for Obama too. I'm getting sick of it.

What does it say when a campaign goes against their own values, goes against their own principles, and goes against their own morals? It means they are desperate to win the Presidency at any cost. At this rate, McCain's transformation to a Democrat is well on it's way to completion. But I'd still rather have Obama and Biden than McCain and some no name from freakin Alaska.

Elizabeth   September 12th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

McCain, I cannot vote for you. The more I watch you, the way you lie and manipulate, the less respect I have for you. McCain, my husband is a veteran but why did you vote against vets 27 times for funding and healthcare? McCain, why did you pick a female VP when you are against equal pay for women?

Your position on stem cells will not sway me to you, neither does Palin, or your pandering.

McCain, you should be ashamed of yourself.

steve   September 12th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

I think CNNs keeps changing which polls it decides to use in it's poll of polls so that it can put it's candidate in as good a light as they possibly can.. They keep juggling around which polls to use until they come up with a combination that shows "the one" better off than he actually is. Oh. and for all you people who say they don't poll cell phones. I saw a report from several pollsters saying they DO poll cell phone users.
Think CNN isn't biased? Just look at the tenor of all the headlines they put on their political stories. Most of the ones on McCain and Palin have negative lead ins to them, by far. Meanwhile, most of the stories on their "Chosen One" have positive lead ins. Most other news sites have McCain ahead by twice as much as CNN .
As far as the ladies on "The View," Barbara Walter has had that face stretched over her skull to the point that it's put way too much back pressure on her brain. I hope she doesn't continue to get this excited. She'll have to ask Michael Jackson for his nose.

Charlie Gibson's interview showed the clear sexism in this country. It was so obvious by Mr. Gibson's demeanor that he is a sexist and struggles at the concept of being an objective journalist. I am so surprised that Mrs. Palin sat through this interview. His body language, disgusted facial expressions and pointing were clear indications of his lack of professionalism. If he would like to join the Obama campaign, quit ABC and start working for your "Good, old boys campaign "…..,

Tim   September 12th, 2008 9:36 pm ET

"Change is coming. McCain, Palin and congressional allies."

Since they are of two minds on stem cell research, exactly what change is coming? Is it the we're going to this this change OR the we're NOT going to do this variety?

No, they don't have to agree. But, this must mean McCain is saying to Palin, you're wrong.

Notre Dame   September 12th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

i don't know what that means. What does that say about a person who believes in one thing but is willing to go against their beliefs so that they'll be in office?

The Colonel   September 12th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

Sure…She will back whatever McCain wants unless he becomes incapacitated while in office. Just think…a VP turned Pres. who has stated, if necessary, the U.S. might go to war with Russia if it invaded Georgia again (provided it were to become a NATO member). Go to war with Russia?!! Is she nuts?!! YES! And, now we see that a possible resurrection of stem cell research under McCain would likely be nixed yet again under a Palin administration. Let's see…where else are we talking out both sides of our mouth…Oh yeah…earmarks, "Bridge to Nowhere", climate change impacts, etc.

T   September 12th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

The reality is she is not ready to be 2nd in command. You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes on this one.

Maybe Mrs. Palin is right the Rapture is going to occur during her first term. We should check this with Governor Huckabee who is an evangelical scholar.

Hopefully, McCain, 72, will retire now.

gene   September 12th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

Just a quick note based on another blog early about Palin not hesitating to accept the VP nomination.

How can any person not seriously stop and contemplate accepting a position which requires so much time and responsibility… especially when you don't know exactly what the job of the VP is. I don't know… I prefer this to be a blatant lie than to think that this woman is so reckless. Either way though it's bad news.

As a woman who has gone through invitro fertilization alot – unfortunately I never had left lover embryos – if I was done trying to have children, I would absolutely donate them for medical purposes. Embryos cannot survive at that stage , so why not put them to great use in trying to find out about cures for such horrible diseases, such as MS, Parkinson's, etc. You are not killing, but helping ilfe to others can hopefully survive.

Hypocrisy is the name of the game   September 12th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

McCain can only fool these folks that ignore information at their fingertips. We live in a technologically advanced society and yet people believe any lie put to them by McCain………UNBELIEVEABLE. Take the time to educate yourself about issues and candidates positions………it is a responsibility a duty if you will. Palin views are so NARROW I have a hard time believing she is a governor. Alaska must really be small or far removed from mainstream thinking. I watched the videos from her church and realize that she has been indoctrinated and bring her faith in policies. A politician need to separate church from state and think of the good of society not personal convictions.

Charlie in Maine   September 12th, 2008 9:21 pm ET

Barack Obama's choice of Senator Joe Biden showed that he listened to Hillary supporters (such as myself) and picked someone with great experience and judgement. He can bounce ideas off Joe and get his honest advice. Furthermore should God forbid, anything happen to him Biden could take over without any problem. What did Bushy McSame do in his first presidential decision? He picked a rabid conservative to shore up his right wing and did not give a rat's posterior for who would take over if ,God forbid, he were to die in office. He has the right wing sewn up now and he might be able to con enough independents to sway the election his way. Most independents I know look carefully at the issues though and I am hoping they will see through the smokescreen to the truth and vote Obama. At any rate you can't say there is no difference between the nominees. There choice of second in command shows a marked difference. If anything McSame should apologize to the Hillary supporters for suggesting that this woman could take her place.

If the American people actually believe that McCain/Palin will change they way things in this country have been going, then by all means, vote for them. But when your economy slides further in the hole, thousands of lost jobs, health and education non existent, what are Americans going to say then, All those who voted for them will be the first to whine and complain. And one thing you should all take notice of. Woman in your country have fought hard and long for the things you have already accomplished. The majority of people, and a lot of them will be white american woman who will vote just to have a woman in the white house instead of the issues should know that when all this comes crumbling down, never will a woman ever enter a white house again, because it will be proof that woman cannot be responsible enough to vote for what is right for their country. This will set womens rights back 100 years and that people of America, is the true victim in all this farce.

Copperfield   September 12th, 2008 9:11 pm ET

Palin has taught us a lot about politics these past few weeks.:

1. If you're willing to lie about nearly everything you've ever done, you can be successful.

2. If you can repeat a single response to multiple questions, you will trump all competition.

3. If you can mispronounce important words which may seem simple, like "nuclear" over and over, you can relate to the common-man and innevitably be successful!

4. If you have no issue using your soon to deploy child to a meat-grinder occupation as a voter-chip, you can surmount the opposition.

5. If you can convince the media that you don't believe in dinosaurs and that science is a sham, well, you're in for a free ride provided purely by the extremist right!

6. Finally, if anyone gets in your way, feel free to use your power of possision to pressure them out of a job!

Thank you Sarah Palin, you're an inspiration to us all!

I only wish CNN were as committed to "vetting" Obama as they are to "vetting" Palin.

It is somewhat hypocritical to accuse Palin not "being pure" on Earmarks, when Obama is RUNNING for President to eliminate Earmarks, and took his own fair share of them….but CNN glosses over that fact.

Let's see, first year in office Alaska got $400 Million, and Palin also cut those requests down to $233 Million.

The ONLY PURE candidate on EARMARKS appears to be John McCain.
Biden requested $300 Million…so NEITHER VP is "Pure"

Honest Citizen   September 12th, 2008 9:01 pm ET

As a UK citizen enjoying the US election coverage I just raise the question: shouldn't there be a law introduced to prevent politicians lying during political campaigns? It could be asworn oath given before they run for office, similar to being on oath in giving testimony in court? Lying would then be tantamount to perjury but against the American people, and the charge for such an act could be expulsion as a candidate. After all you cannot simply make things up and expect people to make an informed choice in elections it amounts to deception in order to try and get elected. McCain needs to stop lying and campaign honestly by telling the truth.

Texico From Mexico   September 12th, 2008 9:00 pm ET

Hmmm….

listen up folks, is there any way we can trade the middle section of the Untied States for say…India? If we did at least our IQ's would go up about 50 points on average. It is really sad commentary that anyone would actually vote for a party that has already struck out twice! Just what does McCain bring to the table? He has refused to go into depth on ANY issue which tells me the voter that he is for basically staying the course. Also, it is apparent what is going on here, this country is more racist than it even realizes. Anyone with half a brain would see that the GOP has stolen every idea and turned it to an advantage. Great, nice campaining but it soes nothing for us the average person in this country! Its not going to give us Health Care, its not going to give us better benfits for Veterans, its not going to provide a long term energy plan. I thought we were a country moving forward? Repeal Roe V Wade, get rid of Stem Cell reasearch etc. isnt that actually going backward?

In my view, the evangelical voters are attracted to a Palin Administration because they are hurting with this economy and want their pain to end now. I think those people will be disappointed and disillusioned.

Many of the Republicans struck me as angry people (Rudy G and Tom Delay)

Hopefully, McCain,72, will finally retire.

lynn   September 12th, 2008 8:57 pm ET

In her interviews, Gov. Palin reveals a total lack of understanding of world affairs, avoided asking questions directly, has shifting positions on everything from not believing global warming is man made to now accepting it, was not against the Bridge to Nowhere until it was not going to be accepted, being against earmarks made by lobbyists even though she hired a lobbyist to get 23 million dollars for her small town but took the money anyway and now is taking lines about reducing abortions through adoption and other programs right from basic democratic principals especially brought out in the primaries.

During her speeches she presents herself as maverick; during these interviews we see a candidate as a camelion: changing and swaying strictly for political adavantage.

How can you trust a person who shifts so much you don't know what she stands for. These aren't flip flops; these are the remarks of someone who sdoes not know the issues and is an opportunist.

Hopefully for the sake of America, voters will honestly, and with their heads and with their country first will reject this person who does not have the skills, knowledge or credibility to be anywhere near the White House.

Jason, OH   September 12th, 2008 8:57 pm ET

There has been more success with adult stem cells than embryonic stem cells. You don't have to kill a baby to save somebodys life. I support John McCain even though I disagree with him on this issue. We all have to answer to God for the things we do in this life.

MKP   September 12th, 2008 8:57 pm ET

It absolutely frightens me that my fellow Repubs can't see through this ploy. I am even more frightened that this woman could become President, given Sen McCain's age and health, with so little knowledge of most issues, unpolished, and such a black-or-white view. This will probably be my first year voting for a Democrat. I find myself listening more intently to Sen Obama on the issues now, because this woman even as VP is just too "out there" for me.

RapidRay   September 12th, 2008 8:55 pm ET

"that centeredness that I have of respecting life and the potential of every human life."

Does it also include the realization that stem cell research can help ultimately end in destruction of life?
Does that include all the people who die in hospital waiting rooms, or because they couldn't afford prescriptions for long term illnesses?

This single statement may be the most hypocritical Sarah Palin has ever uttered. Coming form a mother of a child born with a disability, you would think that she would support medical research of this nature, especially after announcing at the RNC that she would be an advocate for children with disabilities.

The health care in this nation is quite clear on it's position…"you have the right to life as long as you have enough money."

Fine. You've stated what you are NOT going to do. When can we expect some inclination of what you WILL DO?

Would these candidates PL:EASE stop spewing forth positions and start offering solutions. The clock's ticking and we need something to base a decision on beyond the name calling and popularity contests.

Cam   September 12th, 2008 8:54 pm ET

If they are babies, they are babies.

If life begins and conception (and embryos are past conception), they are babies.

And if you are using babies for SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH, how can you live with yourself? Are you not doing exactly what you accuse others of doing, killing innocent life? How does this not make him a hypocrite? It makes no sense.

Good for him. Finally a policy. Just note that if he croaks the policy will change.

Earl   September 12th, 2008 8:29 pm ET

I believe everyone here wants to know ALL the truth..not just bits

So here are a few questions Ms Palin before the election:

1. Since you were pregnant and you started to leak fluid, during a
speech in Texas, you chose to finish your speech and then fly for
11 hours back to Alaska. And then drive for 45 minutes to a hospital
in a small town to have a baby with health problems.

How so?…you would think that you would want the best care possible
for yourself and the baby at a large city to handle your needs.

2. I read in your newspaper that you gave birth to a 6lb 2oz baby boy.
Which you have told us that he was born 4 weeks premature.

Does a premature baby not weigh less if premature?..just asking.
Did you transport yourself and baby to a neo-natal unit because he was premature?..No because you were back to work 3 days after giving birth. THAT'S ODD

3.Why are all the family pictures taken off the govt and other websites?

Are there things there you don't want us to see?…Too late we've already seen them.

4. It's odd that the only baby's parents name that was born in the hospital on that day was definitely NOT Palin. Newspapers are printed

Looks like the MSM hasn't the gazoo's to check on these questions because the Repub will call it "sexist"

HERE'S MY TAKE ON IT….

You got a phone call when in Texas that Bristol was going into labor, so you booted it for home to make a good coverup.

Either there are going to be a lot of people perjure themselves, either way you and McWar are in a whole pile of hurt.

WAIT FOR IT…..NATIONAL ENQUIRE IS DOING MSM'S HOMEWORK

BK   September 12th, 2008 8:27 pm ET

Well Obama/Biden also backs stem cell research but has a more proven record of pushing for it versus Palin having to put her opposition 'on the back burner'. Why would they even bother bringing this up? They are weak compared to Democrats in the eyes of people that are for stem cell research and just drew bad attention to themselves in the eyes of those that don't.

Mike   September 12th, 2008 8:27 pm ET

I mean….really. Do they think we are that stupid? Are we? Hey America – are we THIS stupid to actually buy what they are trying to sell here?

“How disrespectful. And how Governor Sarah Palin proves them wrong, every day.”

–CNN Ticker item "McCain, Obama exchange fire in tough new ads, memo"

Palin's spokesperson Maria Comella confirmed those remarks constitute Palin's position, but said that "a McCain-Palin administration will be pro-stem cell research."

Even though Palin opposes it?

"Yep," Comella said.

If CNN had shown people the Electoral college information, Bush would never have won!!!

I guess this nation is more important than my life savings–

So, after 8 years of this mess, would you give this nation to

—A VP with series of scandals, more than Sadam?
—A President so old that he cannot even wave to his people

meck   September 12th, 2008 8:23 pm ET

That is just one of the many things where she disagrees with her running mate.
Did anyone listen to her speech in Alaska?? She says her son is going to Iraq to defend America against the people who planned and carried out the attack on America. Hold on a second….IRAQ DIDNT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH 9-11.

Do you want this woman as VP.??///

Meck, Vanc.

maynard hopkins wi   September 12th, 2008 8:23 pm ET

McCain just won the presidency because of his stem cell research. this is just one item there are many more like Palin belonging to the N.R,A, and prolife
America can once again be the leading nation.

Obama go hide your head in a corner and wear your Abric Garb….
this man is dangerous to the United States.

Darren   September 12th, 2008 8:23 pm ET

Gee, I'd like to believe her, but I'm thinking her lips were moving when she said this.

David Peter   September 12th, 2008 8:22 pm ET

Hypocracy is Sarah Palin

Eric   September 12th, 2008 8:22 pm ET

No news here, she is not suppose to say anything she is not given a script to. Just goes to show she is not the reformer she claims to be if she is willing to bow down on her own beliefs just to "believe she will" win an election. Greed never pays off in the end.

Voter   September 12th, 2008 8:21 pm ET

Hard to believe, Mr. McCain, with Sarah snarling around out there with the opposite pitch…Maybe a muzzle would help your campaign.

Perla   September 12th, 2008 8:21 pm ET

"Palin's spokesperson Maria Comella confirmed those remarks constitute Palin's position, but said that 'a McCain-Palin administration will be pro-stem cell research.' "

Unless, of course, McBush were to die, and then the extremist theocratic beauty queen would have HER way!

Come on, people, be sane. You can't want her in the White House. Make her the Almighty Prom Queen, but keep her out of your children's future.

Michael G-Ventura ca   September 12th, 2008 8:21 pm ET

Is the mccain-palin campaign of ever telling the WHOLE TRUTH and NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH? Is this 2004 revisited?
Such liars!
EIGHT IS (more than) ENOUGH!

Kent, Illinois   September 12th, 2008 8:21 pm ET

I'd like to know Palin's opinion about what she would do if her child was hurt and in the hospital in critical condition. Would she let the hospital help her child? Or would it be God's will if the child didn't make it? Will she care about us Americans needing healthcare? If she doesn't believe in "saving" someone in the hospital?

Because of people like Obama in Illinois we have something close to universal healthcare. All kids are covered free of charge. Do you like that mothers? Obama/Biden 08

Palin could hurt women's progression, with poor performance   September 12th, 2008 8:20 pm ET

Women are so excited to finally have a woman in the white house. However, has anyone realized the damage she could do if she is a lame duck. Women will be set back and viewed as a gender that couldn't get it done. If Palin isn't exceptional, it may even damage Hillary Clinton's chances in the future. Women activist probably should wait until they are sure they are putting a strong female into the white house. They should wait for Clinton.

"On the pinhead front, 16-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant… Now most teens are pinheads in some ways. But here the blame falls primarily on the parents of the girl, who obviously have little control over her"

How dare the MSM treat teenage pregnancy this way. All conservatives should unite and DEMAND this "journalist" be fired NOW!

Susan from Scotts Valley, CA   September 12th, 2008 8:20 pm ET

It doesn't sound like an attack ad. Amazing!

Jim   September 12th, 2008 8:19 pm ET

so she is sacrificing her values for the sake of trying to win the election. That says a lot about her.

roger nc   September 12th, 2008 8:19 pm ET

This guy must be senile or what.. Cmon mcsame do you think that we are stupid…

Moderate Republican for Obama   September 12th, 2008 8:18 pm ET

I just saw clips from the Palin and Gibson interview. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! Palin looked like a student who poorly studied for their Vice President 101 Final Exam. This is not American Idol or America's Got Talent. This person will potentially be a heartbeat away from the most important political office in the world. Palin didn't even know what the Bush Doctrine was, a doctrine solely responsible for the Middle East mess that we are involved in right now. Palin thinks that being close to Russia gives her a distinct knowledge of their affairs. I simply cannot believe that any rational, intelligent, and thinking red-blooded American would support the McCain-Palin ticket. What's even more amazing is that a considerable number of Americans are doing just that! WOW! Perhaps my faith in the American People is dangerously misplaced. I hope and pray to God that Dems, Moderates and Independents who know better, and Republicans who know better do not allow McCain-Palin to run this country. At this point, even a Third Party candidate would be better than this horrible ticket!

mdrift   September 12th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

Get it through your heads. VP candidates don't sit in the Oval Office. They give advice and represent the US abroad.

Dick Cheney never should have been given the powers of the Executive Branch, by George W. Bush.

Too bad people were too paranoid about 9/11 and fear driven to notice, until it was way too late.

Annette, Washington, DC   September 12th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

Why no mention of VP nominee Palin platform on stem cell? Another fabrication. A vote for McCain is insane.

April in Texas   September 12th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

Geez it seems they should have discussed several issues they differ on.. What about hte polar bears and ANWAR, abortions, global warming and other things? Sounds like both will be fighting to push the go to war button.. (just naming a few) GOOD GRIEF!

Obama/Biden 08

wow their ticket isnt united…. Once again he should vetted her

GO SARAH!   September 12th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

She's not against all stem cell research….only embryonic stem cells.

Please go check out Charlie Gibson's first interview with Obama. What a cheesecake interview. What a joke! "Who is Barrack Obama?"

Why such hostility towards Sarah Palin, VP choice, yet Obama gets a cheesecake interview running for President????

A Woman In California For Obama:   September 12th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

I am so sick of her lies, I'm not even going to comment. By now, every logical/intelligent person out there knows she's lying.

Palin is not a champion for women's issues   September 12th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

palin can't pronounce nuclear (MCPalBush), lied about issuing orders to the national guard….instead of honestly admitting she doesn't know what the bush doctrine is, she dances around the question….on her earmarks argument she said in the interview it's okay as long is it is in open and in plain sight….and on the trail she accuses obama of pork spending despite the fact that he disclosed his earmark requests….Palin is farce…point blank!!!! She is not the fighter women need.

Jude   September 12th, 2008 8:14 pm ET

from Governor to VP, God forbid president, and she doesn't need to consult with her family… that is one exceptional hockey mom… its cool she can handle it, its not like she's running for "President"… its just VP, all you have to do is stand there and look pretty, uh like Vanna White. Whats over a million lives and lots of major decision making, hanging over your shoulders, its nothing an Alaskan hockey mom can't handle.

"The Vice Presidency is sort of like the last cookie on the plate. Everybody insists he won't take it, but somebody always does." Bill Vaughn

Big D   September 12th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

McCain's ads have contained so many lies, and often lies that have already been debunked. Factcheck now says that McCain has an ad that lies about Factcheck said about a prior debunked lie. So I'm just not going to pay any more attention to McCain's ads. McCain just doesn't have the integrity required to run an honest campaign. They obviously don't care that their statements are lies – they just want to get elected. McCain – please see your colleague Joe Biden about how to serve long-term with integrity and honesty!

Sally from Cali   September 12th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

Lies of omission.

Ben Franklin said, "Never buy a pig in a poke."

Joe   September 12th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

So how exactly is McCain going to get the conservative side, Palin's side, to jump aboard stem cell?

If McCain couldn't even pick a Vice President that HE wanted, how does he expect his administration to be run?

Kisha   September 12th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

Of course it doesnt mention she is against stem cell research. The McCain campaign is following a recent pattern. They are liars.

Shannon   September 12th, 2008 8:12 pm ET

people don't have to march in lock step with one another, people can have differing opinions, McCain is the top of the ticket, it's his position that counts. We know with obama, sometimes he supports something, the next day he doesn't, so I wouldn't count on his support for stem cell research. He could say he's for it today, but think he could gets votes tomorrow by being against it. It would be just like FISA. One thing he is consistent on, and that's his ability to demean women, I wonder why he seems to hold working women in such disdain, maybe he felt neglected as a child, he does seem to want constant attention and adoration.

Lance   September 12th, 2008 8:12 pm ET

John McCain stands a fifty percent chance of croaking in his first term.

There's not a bookie in Vegas that would bet on our chances if Sarah Palin had to take over.

Go back to playing craps on your own time John.

rob   September 12th, 2008 8:10 pm ET

gop crook

Breck   September 12th, 2008 8:08 pm ET
