McCain stem cell ad doesn't mention Palin's opposition

Palin's position on stem cell research is at odds with McCain's.
Palin's position on stem cell research is at odds with McCain's.

WASILLA, Alaska (CNN) – Sarah Palin is putting her opposition to stem cell research on the back burner for the sake of the Republican ticket.

John McCain's campaign released a radio ad Friday that calls he and Palin "mavericks" who will, if elected, back stem cell research "to help free families from the fear and devastation of illness."

"Medical breakthroughs to help you get better, faster," says the radio ad, which according to the campaign is running in key battleground states. "Change is coming. McCain, Palin and congressional allies. The leadership and experience to really change Washington and improve your health."

McCain and his campaign have said the senator supports research that uses stem cells, including the embyronic variety. But Palin does not.

Questioned about the issue in a debate during the 2006 race for Alaska governor, Palin invoked her "pro-life position" and referred to "that centeredness that I have of respecting life and the potential of every human life."

She added that she could not support research that "would ultimately end in destruction of life."

Palin's spokesperson Maria Comella confirmed those remarks constitute Palin's position, but said that "a McCain-Palin administration will be pro-stem cell research."

Even though Palin opposes it?

"Yep," Comella said.

McCain and Palin want to argue the right to life to the Christian Right and the practical position of allowing STEM cell research when the embryos are slated to be discarded. This independent Christian is not fooled and is in fact disgusted with their stances on a large portion of these issues.

  3. This is so sad

It seems that McCain, Bush and Palin just copy whatever Obama does!

Obama started his campain on Change!
    Mccain and Palin copy him

Obama says we should cencentrate on Afiganistan
Bush says the same thing after

Obama says we should start reducing troops in 16 months
    Bush does the same after

It seems that Obama in on the proper track, where everyone else are just followers!

Regardless of my views on McCain and Obama, Palin scares the heck out of me! She seems more hell bent on world domination then co-existing with anyone!

Good luck McCain, and I hope you last as long as your grand mother! I think you will need a food and drink tester!

of course not, they are trying to hide that from us. But, unlike mccain, we know how to use the internet. mccain really thinks we are not informed about the issues and where they stand.

When they aren't outright lying, McCain and Palin lie by omission! I haven't heard one truth from either of their lips all week. Obama's right – it isn't the candidates that lose in this scenario, it's the American people, who once againg get duped into a culture war that has nothing to do with the economy, the war, the declining job market, bank failures, etc. NOT THIS TIME – smarten up people. Our children deserve better.

CNN where did the McCain say he supporterd embryonic stem cell. He is very clear he opposes it. I don't think you got that info right or you made it up saying it came from their campaign.

  14. W/Woman/60 - Republican NOT voting for McCain/Palin

Women of America please listen to McCainPalin and their views. Palin is against any abortion even when rape and incest. She is against stem cell research. Even to find cures for diseases. She wants to reverse Roe v Wade. She is under investigation for abuse of power. She just got a pasport last year. She has only travelled to Mexico and Canada. She is for war to solve any problem along with McCain.

They are both so frightening. It doesn't bother either to tell lies.

For the sake of America we can't afford four more year' of Bush and we sure can't afford Palin at all!

why is it that gov. palin has to agree with everything sen. McCain does, she's not a clone. and wasn't it sen. Obama, when he introduced Biden. that said he didn't want someone as a running mate who constantly agreed with him and not challenge him on issues

I wonder if McCain is going to nominate Palin to be the next Ms. Buffallo Chip, like he did to Cindy. Oh wait. Was that sexist?

Just goes to show that Palin is another GOP puppet who will allow the strings to pull her in any direction that suits the Republicans' latest talking points.

You would think John McCain would be the first to support stem cell research since he is obviously in the early phase of dementia and could really benefit from it!

"that centeredness that I have of respecting life and the potential of every human life."

Does it also include the realization that stem cell research can help ultimately end in destruction of life?
Does that include all the people who die in hospital waiting rooms, or because they couldn't afford prescriptions for long term illnesses?

This single statement may be the most hypocritical Sarah Palin has ever uttered. Coming form a mother of a child born with a disability, you would think that she would support medical research of this nature, especially after announcing at the RNC that she would be an advocate for children with disabilities.

The health care in this nation is quite clear on it's position..."you have the right to life as long as you have enough money."

Fine. You've stated what you are NOT going to do. When can we expect some inclination of what you WILL DO?

Would these candidates PL:EASE stop spewing forth positions and start offering solutions. The clock's ticking and we need something to base a decision on beyond the name calling and popularity contests.

What opposition? Guess you guys haven't been keeping up with the latest scientific break thourghs in stem cell research. Of course, I don't know why I'm expecting CNN to report the news instead of making it.

Anyone else heard that Palin's son was given an ultimatim to enter the military or else after he was arrested for vandalism. Anyone else heard that her son also ran away from home and lived the last year in Michigan. He won't have his picture taken with mommy dearest. There is a lot of ugly in Wasila and it has to come out.

Do they really have a clear position in something or they just telling people what they want to hear?
This is an example about how things can go in the White House if they get elected, can we trust McCain will not change his position to please Republicans once they get in control of the Presidency?

  25. Palin the Truth hurts.

She admits to being a former Earmark Addict.

But she is going to change..

She was a Bank Rober ..but she only robbed them "in the light of day"
She wants to expose those robbers that rob in the dark

She was a Snake but she only slithered "in the light of day"
She wants to expose those snakes that slither in the dark.

    This Lady is WACKO..
