Biden son no longer a federal lobbyist

Joe Biden’s son Hunter has stopped lobbying the federal government on behalf of his firm’s clients.
Joe Biden’s son Hunter has stopped lobbying the federal government on behalf of his firm’s clients.

(CNN) – Hunter Biden – the second son of Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden – has informed congressional officials that he is resigning his job as a federal lobbyist.

In a letter dated August 25, two days after Biden’s father was announced as Barack Obama’s running mate in Springfield, Illinois, Biden writes that as of that date, “I no longer expect to act as a federal lobbyist.”

The letter also lists the nine clients that Biden lobbied for, including six universities. The other three are two pharmaceutical companies and a law firm that represents an internet gambling company.

Obama refuses donations from lobbyists and has repeatedly slammed Republican nominee John McCain for hiring former corporate lobbyists into senior campaign positions. The Democrat’s campaign launched a new multimedia offensive Saturday highlighting what they called “John McCain’s ties to DC Lobbyists.”

The senior Biden has insisted that his son has never lobbied him, and has claimed that he is the only senator who doesn’t meet with lobbyists.

UPDATED with GOP, Biden camp reaction after the jump

RNC spokesman Alex Conant called Hunter Biden's letter "another example of Obama's words not matching his actions."

"Obama speaks against special interest, but he doesn't stand up to them, as evidenced by his selection of a Washington insider like Joe Biden," said Conant. "The disconnect between Obama's rhetoric and record undermines any claims to being an agent of 'change' and will hurt him this fall."

Biden spokesman David Wade fired back at the RNC, saying “The McCain campaign and their henchmen at the RNC have broken their own world record for sleaze and scum, attacking the children of the candidates after spending weeks decrying perceived media slights of their own families.

"Joe Biden’s been standing up to the big powerful interests in Washington for thirty five years while John McCain has voted their agenda again and again," continued Wade. "Hunter Biden could’ve gone anywhere after college but chose the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and the inner city, gave up a big job in corporate America to work in public service for the Clinton Administration, and has represented colleges, universities, and hospitals. I’d put his character up against the attack dogs of the McCain campaign any day and come out a winner.”

Well that's what you really want people to believe. You don't think that
with all those people you represented you don't leave some kind of
influence.. You only did it because daddy Biden told you to do so.
So who are you working for now. Oh Must Be Obama , Biden campain.
Come on do you really think that people are going to swallow this.
Americans are starting to see through the Obama strategy. I am
a Democrat voting for John McCain, because my family has already
seen through Obama's package of lies and deceit. He can't even admit who he is.. I noticed the way he looked the other day when he tossed that rose on the memorial. It was the look, do I really have to . Hey look how Senator McCain, knelt down and gently put his rose down with on the memorial with the up most respect for those who
gave their lives that never forgotten day. Watch the news clip.
Senator Obama just tossed it like it was nothing. If that's any sign
of what he would be like if he were president, NO THANKS !!!
    Anyway enough said.

When speaking regarding special interest groups I am not quite sure I understand so I will speak gingerly here. Does this mean he doesn't like agenda's? I mean seriously how can you go into an office Such as the Oval Office as President without an agenda. How can you have change with out an agenda.....So if your special interest group is wanting to protect this country from American and Foreign Terriost how can you not have an agenda? A timeline is two things one an agenda of the past or an agenda of the future......Were not talking INTERNET PORN or INTERNET GAMBLING here from a LOBBIST......From what I heard on the CNN converstion with Costello the Mayor of NEW YORK, HILLARY HAS LOBBIED NEW YORK'S CITY HALL....SENATOR HILLARY PLEASE YOU NO THE RULES......WHY DON'T YOU LET SOMEONE WITH THIS CITY'S BEST INTEREST AT HEART DO OBAMA'S BIDDING....Just like Bill, When it comes to the interest of this Country you need to ....STAY HOME, DON'T WALK THE STREETS..........

Another one of those useless community organizer sorts. Come on – the Jesuit Volunteer Corps? The Obama/Biden campaign is filled with community volunteer sorts!

The RNC just doesn't get it. Neither does McCain.

So, what does "Country First" mean to those Republicans? The military?

  6. Conservatives Hate John McCain

McCain has 134 former lobbyists MANAGING his campaign.

His CAMPAIGN MANAGER, Rick Davis, was a lobbyist for BIG OIL.

After the campaign is over, Rick Davis will go back to his job as a lobbyist.

How can McCain claim to stand up for conservative values when he has so many lobbyists involved with his campaign?

I am a conservative and I am staying home on November 4th.

Maybe he can become a community activist now or better yet investigate trooper gate up in Alaska there are not enough people up there investigating the situation. After all we need protection from Sarah Palin who had the nerve to complain about a trooper that at the very least has admitted to "mistakes" that include threatening to kill his to soon to be father in law, drinking in a patrol car and tasing a minor child–oh wait, I forgot the kid wanted it to happen.

  14. Alaska and Arizona POW for Obama/Biden

Vote smart this November. Vote good judgment. If you say that our economy is good now, you are an elitist and you do not know our struggle to put food on our bellies and gas in our cars. John McCain that elitist think the economy is good and has no plan to help us. He wants more wars, more tax cut for big corporate that ship our jobs oversees. Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania I know that your economies are hurting and you must vote smart and vote someone who understands your economics’ struggles. It is not time to support someone just for race or gender, it is time to take our country back and get our respect back around the world. Vote Democratic this November if you are a true American who put America first. We need change in Washington and the Democratic Party has that change for us this November.

Joe Biden is an honorable man. I don't know much about his children, but I do know that I trust Joe and believe that he has integrity. During this campaign, I'd have to say that McCain does not exhibit integrity. And the RNC certainly has no ground to call anyone else out for ties to lobbyists.
CNN – what's going on with comments lately? I've posted on several topics, had my comments in moderation for hours, and then have the post either go to permalink without my comments or without any comments at all. Why bother to open topics up for comment if you never post those comments?

I will like to ask Americans to look deep into thier heart and ask themselves, why they want McCain to be President with his history of abandoning his sick wife who waited while he was in Vietnam. some of you called yourself christians but will not vote for Obama because, her loving mother who is one of you married a man from another race. I plead to you not to give Bush and his friend(McCain) another 4 years because of racism(Fear). God is watching. God bless America

Of course-- It's like getting caught with your fingers in the cookie jar. Either you remove them quickly or you get caught. Well the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and Hunter was caught. I guess real "CHANGE" stops at the Presidential level.

Conant is spitting out the daily garbage from the RNC. The letter was dated two DAYS after Biden was announced. The young man didn't want to have any hint of a discrepancy with Obama's message, so he selflessly left his job. And of course he gets blasted by Republicans, who have 7 or 8 lobbyists in high positions in their campaign. Will they stop at nothing in their lies?
It really is not the Democrats fault that you have a GOP candidate who lies in our faces, and has more corruption in her short public tenure than Obama ever will have in his life. Sorry that you're regretting that little surprise decision. But we all have access to FACTCHECK, and we see every single day the lies and manipulations from your campaign, and we aren't buying it this time around. Rove may have stolen the 2000 election, and done a good job swiftboating John Kerry, but it won't fly this year. Americans are on to you...and you will not scare us into another 4 years of ruinous Republican rule. No McCain No Palin No Way.

  21. Palin the Truth hurts.

This is Pale In comparison to the Dirt all over "Shocking Sarah"

We now know by her own admission that she only accepts Earmarks before sundown.. And condems anyone accepting Earmarks after dark...

It is now thoroughly documented that Sarah Palin supported the $398 million "Bridge to Nowhere" when she ran for Governor in 2006, even though Congress cancelled the earmark in 2005.

She only opposed it in September 2007 after her final efforts to get $329 million more from Congress failed. Yet she kept the partial funding from Congress!

So when Palin repeatedly says "I told Congress, 'Thanks, but no thanks' on that bridge to nowhere," she is repeatedly lying.

It is long past time for reporters to call Sarah Palin exactly what she is – a serial liar.
