Campaign confirms Palin did not go beyond Iraqi border

A Palin aide confirmed details of her foreign travel Saturday.

(CNN) – Sarah Palin did not visit troops in Iraq, a spokesperson for the Republican VP nominee confirmed Saturday, as new details emerged about the extent of the Alaska governor’s foreign travel.

In July of last year, Palin left North America for the first time to visit Alaskan troops stationed in Kuwait. Palin officials originally said her itinerary included U.S. military installations or outposts in Germany and Kuwait, and that she had visited Ireland. An Alaska spokeswoman for Palin had said Iraq was also one of the stops on that trip.

The Boston Globe reported Saturday that Palin visited the Iraqi side of a border crossing - but never journeyed past the checkpoint.

Earlier, campaign aides confirmed reports that Palin’s time in Ireland on that trip had actually been a re-fueling stop.

(UPDATED with campaign statement after the jump)

The Obama camp – which has increasingly accused the McCain campaign of deliberately lying in ads and on the stump – was quick to highlight to that story, along with a news report that explored whether the McCain campaign have been sending out wildly inflated crowd estimates.

The McCain team has twice pointed to law enforcement as the source for those estimates – but the same officials denied to Bloomberg News that they had provided the numbers cited by the Republican nominee’s campaign.

"The McCain campaign said Governor Palin opposed the Bridge to Nowhere, but now we know she supported it,” said Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor in a statement. “They said she didn't seek earmarks, but now we know she hired a lobbyist to get millions in pork for her town and her state. They said she visited Iraq, but today we learned that she only stopped at the border. Americans are starting to wonder, is there anything the McCain campaign isn't lying about?”

A Palin spokesperson also confirmed Saturday that the governor had visited Mexico on a personal vacation trip. She has also visited Canada.

UPDATE: The McCain-Palin campaign issued a statement late Saturday in which they said Palin had traveled into Iraq, although she did not go beyond the border crossing:

"Last summer, Governor Palin travelled to Kuwait where she visited Alaskan National Guard troops deployed to the war in Iraq at Camp Arifjen. While she was there she travelled to the K Crossing on the Kuwait-Iraq border, and a quarter mile into Iraq. According to the General who travelled with her, while she was there she presided over a re-enlistment ceremony of an Alaskan National Guard soldier. En route back to the United States, she travelled to Ramstein Air Base in Germany. While in Germany, Governor Palin visited wounded soldiers at the Landstuhl military hospital. She then returned home. She has also visited Canada, as well as Mexico for a vacation."

Here we go again. Half truth or lie. Sarah Palin 'refueled' in Ireland. She has never visited the country. If she did and if she had spoken to the Irish people, she would have found out they are very excited about the possibility of an Obama presidency. They are a very politically aware people and no way, no how would they consider someone with Palin's lack of intelligence, world experience, or analytical thinking skills suitable to hold any public office. She would not even be able to hold her own in any political debate in any pub in the country.

1.Obama promised he would take public funding ... but he did not.
2.Obama claimed he would stand against FISA yet... he spruned his supporters and voted for it.
    3. Obama claimed he did not visit the troops in a hospital because he was not allowed to... but sources said they never stopped him, they just told him he could not bring in the cameras.
4.The Cuba embargo In January 2004, Obama said it was time "to end the embargo with Cuba" because it had "utterly failed in the effort to overthrow Castro." Speaking to a Cuban American audience in Miami in August 2007, he said he would not "take off the embargo" as president because it is "an important inducement for change."

The list goes on and on .... so how stupid is it to pick a fight about lies when Obama tells the most lies of them all.

This is just another in a long line of “Pants on Fire” statements the Republicans have made in the course of this election.

Well folks it looks as if the “Straight Talk Express” has broken down in Alaska and will not be up and running until after the elections.

Sorry, but there will be no refunds, however we can offer you an exchange, Senator Obama the real candidate for change.

    Yes We Can!

    Why lie?

We are not looking for lies or fairy tales, we want the truth. If we are not told the complete truth by a candidate, after a while most people will just stop listening to them. All these lies prove that they must not respect our own intelligence or our common sense.

Yes I am for Obama, but I've sat back and didn't go after her once she was named. I didn't like how it was done to Obama so i didn't do it to her. But now were seeing things that just isn't good coming from a man that all of us would've said a GOOD man. Some say you have to do what you need to do to win but some of this is just dum. In the end all things come to light and this is a small thing you didn't need to lie about but as all of us have been told if you lie about something small you will for something BIG.

We've been there before and look where we are! I just want to ask something of all what did you think when we all saw that Hillary was being shot at and she was lying. WHAT DID YOU THINK? WAS SHE LYING? AND NOW WE SEE THIS WHAT DO YOU SAY?

WRONG IS WRONG CAN YOU SAY YOUR GUY IS WRONG WHEN HE IS? and if you can't how do you look at yourself or your child in the eye?

Both McCain and his running mate keep telling obvious lies to the american people. The press should keep asking for open access to ask questions of her.

I was just wondering why the news media hasn't mentioned Obama's ad attacking McCain for being out of touch, you know the one..the one that states he doesn't know how to use a computer.

Well I was just wondering why no one has bothered to mention that the reason why Mr. McCain can not use a computer is that the poor man was a prisoner of war and was so hurt and mangled that he can't use is fingers to comb his hair let alone type anything.

Where is the media's outrage in this? And you know what? Great for Barbara Walters and the view for those heated questions towards McCain, but um when is anyone in the media going to drill Obama in that way? Can someone tell me?

It seems that very little about Sarah Palin and her reported experience(s) are accurate and not obscenely inflated. I am amazed at how quickly American's wanted a "darling" and have been simply flabbergasted by how easily they've been "pulled in." Seems like we've so desperately wanted someone we could rally around and feel good about that we are willing to believe and accept anything/everything we're being told.

I, for one, am not buying.

Ms Palin seems like a very nice person and a charming individual. I would readily welcome her as my neighbor – but I am not quite ready to make her the "President of the United States."
