New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.
New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.

(CNN) –
John McCain’s campaign is running a Spanish language ad in battleground states that blames Barack Obama and Senate Democrats for the failure of attempts to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws — even though the Republican nominee and his Democratic counterpart cast identical votes in the key Senate showdowns on that issue last year

“Obama and his congressional allies say they are on the side of immigrants. But are they?” asks the announcer in the 30-second spot, “Which Side Are They On?”

“The press reports that their efforts were 'poison pills' that made immigration reform fail,” he continues. “The result: No guest worker program. No path to citizenship. No secure borders. No reform. Is that being on our side? Obama and his Congressional allies ready to block immigration reform, but not ready to lead.”

But Obama and McCain cast identical votes in the major congressional showdowns on the issue last year. Both men cast votes in favor of an unsuccessful early June effort to end a filibuster. Later that month, they voted again to end debate on the issue – but again failed to shut down the filibuster effort, led for the most part by Republican senators.

The ad will air in Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada, all crucial fall states with significant Hispanic voting populations.

what happened to the "clean" campaign McCain said he'd run?

HW   September 14th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

I don't know who I am more frustrted with, McCain who would rather lose his personal integrity than an election, or the ill-informed chest-thumping American voters who lap up evry last lie that's dished out. If Americans choose McCain they would desrve every last second of his presidency.

Kevin   September 14th, 2008 11:24 am ET

I am affraid for the American people if McCain is elected. He will continue what has been happening in American today. Look at our gas prices, do we need more of that?

I have lost all respect for McCain. I never thought he would run a campaign like this.

Patty Miller   September 13th, 2008 11:57 pm ET

It is terrifying to think that McCain and Palin could possibly be leading our country in a few short months. These people can't be trusted to tell us the truth….look at all the lies throughout this campaign….have they no concience at all? Do they REALLY go to church and LISTEN to what is taught there?? I am truely ashamed of them!! I was taught to believe that honesty and integrity were the principals this country were founded on….I still believe this. It's unfortunate that MacCain and his counterpart can't run a more respectable campaign…and they need to stop treating the American people as though they were idiots!!

Miatta M. Johnson   September 13th, 2008 11:32 pm ET

Senator John McCain is seriously desperate now…..someone keep to straighten the screw in his head

who changed his position about immigration? Mcain, hey my latinos brothers and sisters, whats mcain policy on cuba, venezuela, mexico, find out for yourselves.

Connie   September 13th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

What is really wrong with Mccain? You cast the same vote with Obama, and you release an ad like that when there are not differences between. For real… this is the height of frustration. If he wishes to send out ads of Obama, they should be concrete and true. Not ads that make him look like a martyr

Anonymous   September 13th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

We need a guest worker program

Good grief…everyone needs to see and understand the huge contributions the hispanics are making. Sending them home would be morE of a crime to our society then their crime of coming hjere to better their family and our society.

IBMMuseum   September 13th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

Huh, they voted the same, but McCain says Obama is the badguy here? Despite McCain´s support, it was members of his own Republican party that killed true immigration reform, not ¨Obama and his Congressional allies¨. McCain is the same as Bush, he even uses the same flawed tactics and mistaken reasoning.

This is the normal attacks that we have come to get use to from the Republican Attack Machine. Such misleading attacks gives both McCain and Obama a bad name. One, that McCain is simplying lying, and two, that Obama isn't on the side of immigrants. The Democratic Party is clearly the party sympathetic to the concerns of immigrants. We can't say the same for Republicans.

Lying McCain at work again. What a piece of scum. This is unforgiveable as a leader and a person who promised to run a clean campaign.
Of course, he often doesn't remember what he did or didn't vote for. Maybe he just forgot. Bet not!!!

I don't know how other people feel about that but running an ad which contains lies or half truths shouldn't be allowed.
The content of ads should be checked for accuracy of facts before an ad can air. This is basic protection of customers and we're shopping for a president.

Jeremy   September 13th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

The lead on this article should be:
McCain creates another lie to bamboozle the ignorant.

I volunteered for McCain in 2000. I had been saying to my friends that although I am for Obama, McCain is a good man.
I was mistaken. This is outrageous and should be labeled as such, not just noted with an afterthought at the end of the article.
Please expose these blatant lies forcefully. There is no way to argue they are not complete falsehoods.

Tim   September 13th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

Can someone tell me who is the real John McCain?

Is he going to change Washington? Hmmm….. if he really believed this himself he would have made this a big part of his campaign from the beginning and not in the 4th qtr of a Presidential race and only after see how Barack Obama's change message was resonating with the American people…. sunds like a follower to me.

How can McCain be an agent of change when he has voted with George Bush more than any other Senator in office, even more than his own Republican peers (those is his own words).

How can McCain be an agent of change when uses the same President Bush smear politics of lies and untruths?

How can McCain be an agent of change when he said the tone of his campaign and the poison that his camp is directing towards Obama would have been different if Obama would have agreed to do as he asked with having the old school style of debats. What does that say about McCain? I'll tell you, it means it's McCain's way or the high way. Yet he wants us to believe he's an agent of change and that he'll work with both his friends and those that he disagrees with….. he attacking Obama because he didn't want to due the old school style debates is all you need to know to ask who is the real John McCain.

McCain says he's a reformer and will take on his own party but yet when it was time to make one of the biggest and most important decisions as a presidential candidtat he didn't have the nads to stand up to the conservative base of the Republican party, so he selected Sara Palin as his VP. Yeah, great way to show your strength McCain.

Can someone tell the American people that this election is about real issues and not lies and distortion. We can't spit this country in half, so we need somone to govern all of us and not just the rich.

More deceit from McCain. So what else is new? But so long as people don't know they're being manipulated, they will probably believe it. Any Hispanic voter who thinks A Republican administration will be "on their side" is truly uninformed.

Ann,Canada.   September 13th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

Mccain is stated to have experience, I wonder whether it is in terms of how many years he has lived or his years in the senate. When it comes to wisdom and judgement you would think he is youbger and unexperienced that Obama and Palin.

Nominating Palin for a runningmate proved did not only prove his poor judgement but that for him McCain comes first before the country, leave alone the empty words.

McCain you did what you could do during your time, Pls think of a gracious retirement and leave the young, physically and emotionally strong an stable to lead.

PhilZ   September 13th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

What ever happened to "straight-talking" McCain? He has gone totally sleazy with the false/misleading ads ever since the former Rove/Bush people came on board his campaign.

This ad is just another desperate attempt to distort Obama's record and make McCain look like a big hero, but Sleazy Sarah and Lying John won't fool most Americans. Thank God!

John   September 13th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

It just doesnt make sense to run this ad because they both voted the same way twice on this issue…I think Obama should respond with the following ad…

“John McCain and his congressional allies say they are on the side of immigrants. But are they?"Which Side Are They On?”

“The press reports that their efforts were 'poison pills' that made immigration reform fail, “The result: No guest worker program. No path to citizenship. No secure borders. No reform. Is that being on our side? McCain and his Congressional allies ready to block immigration reform, but not ready to Change.”

Jennifer   September 13th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

This does not surprise me, given the Republican tactics to date. The thing that is the most amazing about John McCain's campaign of lies is that he is adopting the unethical advertising techniques of the same sleazy people who helped Bush slander him in 2000. It is the height of hypocrisy to campaign this way. As a moderate, I will note vote for McCain. He has become a tool of the far right "win at any cost" machine. And he would be a worse president than Bush because he is even more impulsive.

Immigration reform is a difficult issue. As a nation of immigrants, it will not be an easy task. McCain voting the same as Obama shows he is not a typical Republician, but a real reformer.

McCain is such a hypocrite. In addition to what the article says, McCain also first sponsored an immigration bill with Sen. Kennedy (which fell through), and then later said (when he was campaigning), that he would not have voted for the bill now.

Dan Hugos   September 13th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

No surprises here - facts have nothing remotely to do with what appears on a McCain cxampaign ad. Obama could say "Republicans have done a great job" and the next McCain commercial would slam him for going negative. It's a conscious Republican strategy to keep the facts from getting out about what a truly lousy job they've done with all the power they've had for 8 years. It's a continuation of down-is-up and 2+2=5 baloney from the GOP. It's utterly comical that they would try to cast themselves as the party of change.

emily   September 13th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

More lies from McCain Do you think its pathological or is he just an old fashion dirty liar?

Brian   September 13th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

Did McCain attend any of these major Immigration rallies across the nation in 2007 to hear the concerns of Hispanic Americans. Senator Obama has listened closely to the concerns of these hard-working people by being an advocate for making health insurance more affordable for these families, promoting change in public schools by supporting independently -run Charter schools which will provide better education for our children, and supported raising the minimum wage to help these Americans who work 2 or more jobs to help pay their rising food and gas expenses…

Hispanics help fuel the American economy by spending billions of dollars a year. Not granting Amnesty to those who have live and worked here, and have children born here, is one of the most UnAmerican and Unpatriotic things we can do to them…

Steve   September 13th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

The MCCain/ Palin/ Rove strategy will not work this time because of "Fact Check" and other organizations that can tell people the truth!
It is also obvious that the MCCain/ Palin/ Rove campaign has no ideas because they never follow up with what they intend to do to fix the many problems in America.
MCCain is no reformer and it's obvious that he putting Career First and not Country First.

Here we go again with another add that is misleading and filled with lies from the McCain camp. When is this stuff going to get the proper media exposer that it deserve. The Republican party seems to think that we are going to fall for this crap again. The funny thing is that, they may be right. According to the recent polls it appears that most American's are falling for these lies coming out the McCain camp. When are we as American's going to wake up. The Republican party has been doing the same crap every election year. Base on these lies we're going to put another cannidate in office who truley don't respect the American people enough to be truthful. The two parties may disagree on their issue's but at least be honest about it and by far the McCain camp have turned into hibitual liers and the media is doing anything about it. Especially Fox news! There is something definetly wrong with that station. They cannot be objective at all. Fox news is by far the most irresponsible new's outlet in America. Come on people wake up! By the way, Sara Palin have to be the biggest hypocrite in government. This lady really think she can blow smoke up our rear end. I don't have a real problem with her confidence but I do have a problem when someone is portraying that cockyness from out right lying. Give me a break with the lies. The McCain/Palin supporters can at least be honest that the lies coming from the two of them (McCain/Palin) has went way too far. All of you McCain/Palin supporters need to contact Senator McCain and Governor Palin to let them know they should really stop with the lies!

Jeff   September 13th, 2008 2:22 pm ET

"But Obama and McCain cast identical votes in the major congressional showdowns on the issue last year. Both men cast votes in favor of an unsuccessful early June effort to end a filibuster. Later that month, they voted again to end debate on the issue – but again failed to shut down the filibuster effort, led for the most part by Republican senators."

Just like the rest of the recent McCain-Palin attack adds the attacks are deceptive and are geared to throwing out a constant stream of lies about Obama hoping that the public will fail to investigate the issue and that some of them will stick.

At one time I thought McCain was an honorable person. It has however become apparent to me over the course of the campaign that he, like so many other traditional politicians, will tell whatever lie necessary to get him elected. He publicly admitted as much regarding his flip-flop regarding the flying Confederate battle flag from atop the South Carolina Statehouse.

McCain may have been a hero and served honorably in Vietnam but, in my opinion, ambition has now transformed him into a protypical politician who doesn't either value the truth or honor except as a weakness to be exploited in one's opponent.

Anonymous   September 13th, 2008 2:21 pm ET

All I can say is that McCain is demonstrating every day just how incompetent he really is! Lies, misconceptions, half truths, distortions, denials, etc. are only making the Republicans look so pathetic and unpresidential. He no longer stands for much of anything and is being used as a puppet with the RNC and Palin pulling the strings. What we don't need is another puppet telling America what is best for us! We can decide for ourselves and it sure ain't McCain! Everyday his campaign is becoming more scary.

I'm not sure it matters who is running for the democrats - reality is we can't survive another 4 or 8 years with a republican. Forget the fact Palin is a woman and get back to reality.

sario   September 13th, 2008 2:20 pm ET

Have a look at the Newsweek poll: Questions 22-26.

OVER 50% of the people polled in that poll DO NOT know that:
1. Palin said 'thanks but no thanks' to the Bridge to nowhere only AFTER it was clear Congress would NOT fund it.
2. Palin is against abortion in the cases of RAPE and INCEST (only supports it IF the mother's live is in danger).
3. Palin has serious DOUBTS about the role of human activities in causing global warming.

It is really telling how uninformed the people that are polled are.

P. Lee   September 13th, 2008 2:09 pm ET

This ad is disgusting, and the depths of the republicans efforts to blatantly distort the truth are truly terrifying. I used to buy into the fact that McCain was an honorable man who wanted to run an honorable campaign.

This is especially disappointing, given how McCain used to be a self styled champion of immigration reform and has compromised his views to bow to the mainstream republican base's view of being anti-immigration.

Lastly, this ad isn't just in poor taste, it's completely factually inaccurate. There should be some accountability for networks that run factually inaccurate advertisements, and I urge the media to hold these candidates to some, or ANY standard of truth.

As an independent, I will no longer be voting for John McCain, because he used to be someone I thought would have the backbone to fight for the issues he has a long history in congress of fighting for. Now the former maverick has put winning this election above his integrity and honor. Sorry McCain, you lost my respect and my vote.

Dennis   September 13th, 2008 2:08 pm ET

Are these McCain people for real? Outright lies seem to be their only plan, and the shameless way they conduct themselves is stunning.

I was an independent who used to respect McCain, and said I would vote for him if he ever ran. The way he has caved in to the sleezebags that have overrun the republican party is very disturbing, and brings into question his judgement and independence.

I won't be voting republican after this display . . .

JP from Wisconsin   September 13th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

Just how cynical can the McCain camp get? Every time I think they have stretched the limit for outright lies, they move the bar again. What an accomplishment. I guess he'll settle for whatever message he can deliver when the truth doesn't serve his objective.

McCain folded like a cheap suit when the GOP base insisted they were the ones who would pick a VP candidate, not him. It would seem that having surrendered his independence so fundamentally right out of the box has caused him to abandon any sense of honor at all. What a shame.

Rico Latino   September 13th, 2008 2:03 pm ET

No surprise. The GOP is so predictable. First they choose an unknown and unqualified woman as a VP from the "largest State in the Union" (how many people actually voted for her?) and before the pundits get a chance to criticise her one-on-one performance with a national news personality — the GOP throws out a "wedge issue" grenade on immigration. Lookout DEMS! I'll bet money that the next step the GOP takes will be to have the courts approve election day voter booth police to check ID's on those who look like illegals! Sad.

alex   September 13th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

McCain can't run an ad that talks about what he says before he has nothing to say. If he tried to remember the lines he'd scramble them like a dyslexic. The only thing he can do now is trump his sob-story Hanoi imprisonment like it has any relevence to todays affairs. What a chump.

I used to think politics was a sleazy business, but creating ads that are complete lies, documented lies — that is a new low. The Bush administration has demonstrated that repeating lies over and over again makes people believe it is true. What a sad commentary that Republicans clearly feel it is okay to lie to the American people to get their desired objective. What a disgusting party!

He must literally believe the community does not know what the candidates stances are on their most important issue. Why else would he risk a lie like this?

Robert   September 13th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

John McCain has continued to lie recklessly about his opponent's record. This is the same man who claims that he is different from George Bush.

He is different alright. He is worse than George Bush. His campaign tactics sting and by the way John Sidney McCain should be terribly ashamed of himself.

He has lost all decency and is not fit to lead this great country.

This country deserves leaders that have some decency.

gilbert   September 13th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

Wow shady campaign! McCains campaign is just a small preview of what a McCain administration would look like…VERY SHADY! And ran my LOBYISTS!

Democrats for McCain   September 13th, 2008 1:56 pm ET

I doubt that the Unions that back Obama will let him help the millions of workers that are working is the USA. Well, if the big companies don't have cheap labor here in the USA they should move to China where is plenty of cheap labor. People just get it.

Im voting McCain/Palin

Tim   September 13th, 2008 1:56 pm ET

This ad is a microcosm of the Republicans style of politics. They always go on the offensive with their smear campaign of lies and untruths because they obviously believethe majority of the American people are out of touch with the real issues and that they're ignorant enough to buy into their smear campaign. I guess people want to hear smears than a plan that will help improve their future.

The world is watching this election and I guess they're seeing something that they've seen before and that is the fact that some people will say and do anything for power and that the American public is stupid enough to let the same BS happen over and over and over.

Jarda   September 13th, 2008 1:56 pm ET

Another bunch of lies. Nobody can be surprise anymore…McCain = MAN WITHOUT HONOR, Republican Party = PARTY OF LIARS

Wash   September 13th, 2008 1:55 pm ET

As a Latin-American who is a US citizen I find this ad most repulse and racist, there is no other way to describe it. McSame and the republicans are a bunch racist, they are on a quest from "GOD" to free America of the immigrants legal or illegal if their not white and have an accent kill them, just like the Nazis did with the Jews in the '30s and '40s, they blame them for Germany's problems they were scapegoats.

Once aging history is repeating itself, for the love of God and the human race don't let this Neo-Nazis cloak as republicans in the White House it will be the end of America.

Carmichael Beljackson   September 13th, 2008 1:55 pm ET

McCain and his handlers just keep adding up the lies. Are we that stupid in this nation?? Come on people, RESEARCH, don't take their word for this. McCain has been caught in so many lies in just this past week! WAKE UP!

druid   September 13th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

John MCcain should be a shamed of himself running an ad that both he and Obama voted against. What a horrible lie does he think the hispanic people are stupid and they do not read and know what both voted for during the Immigration debate in the Washington. I hope Obama will bring this add out and even bring out the list were both of them voted. McCain has no regard for people when he says american comes he first he means MCcain comes first. Such a lie makes me lose all respect for him. I hope none of the spanish people fall for this type of sleaze add. Shame on you McCain you ought to know better.

The slime of all slime - John McCain wants to corral a presidential election by prostituting his mother!

What kind of America does he think he would rule if he becomes President now?

I predict riots in the street. I predict a slime ball President who will be viled and hated by half of America.

There will be a French Revolution in America with Conservative at the Gilotine should McCain steal this election like the Serpant at the Garden!

Whoa, whoa.

McCain is blasting Obama over immigration? Even after McCain buckled to the psychotic right wing, abandoning his principles and integrity to such an extent that he wouldn't even vote for immigration reform legislation that he himself wrote?

The mind. It boggles.

Stop The Lies from McCain & Palin

When will the media hold McCain and Palin responsible for telling lies to the American people because they want to win the election very ugly? First, McCain was spending months to attack Senator Obama of inexperience. McCain just selected an inexperienced running mate (Palin) and knowing that he is as guilty as the devil, the McCain campaign and the republicans used the RNC Convention to attack the media (and Obama Campaign) as sexiest that really hates Palin so much, so that the media will refrain from reporting the truth about Palin.
Unfortunately, the media is keeping mute and shy away from their job to report the truth to the American people so that the McCain campaign will not tag the media as sexist. The McCain campaign over the last three weeks are campaigning and promoting Internet, radio and TV Ads lying to the American people, and the media is quiet about it.
The latest ad is the new McCain ad that blames Senator Obama for death of immigration overhaul effort even though records show that Senator Obama and McCain cast identical votes in the major congregational showdowns on the issue last year led by the Republican senators. Stop the McCain Campaign now before they run the Ads in Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada.
Palin and Republicans on her part mocked Senator Obama’s experience as a community organizer. American people were really insulted by that.
It is time the media stands up and do their work, call the spade a spade, hold McCain and Palin responsible for their lies. The LIES now have a pattern in their campaign. The media will also be blamed (conscience) for not standing up to do their part in true reporting. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Democrats are Losers   September 13th, 2008 1:43 pm ET

Well after giving this blog a two week reprieve, I see it is not worth it to come back to this one-sided constant attack blog.

This reporter is crap. Why interject a point regarding McCain's record of recent and ignore all his work on immigration laws? What is wrong with this website? The biased lack of objectivity and reporting goes on. CNN reporters act like citizens, it is really bad.
Once again, the Democrats love to lose. It is good to know your enemy, instead of just talking about them.

Moving on, nothing to learn from this news outlet.

I have not heard one thing mccain would do for hispanic americans. I cannot vote for someone that will not answer questions. Plus she has only been in the public eye for 2 months.NO WAY! We can then complain about a white house full of spin.

Wnen is McCain going to start talking about what the Republicans are going to do about the mess we are in and stop talking about Obama. Really, John Boy, do you even have an original thought? We know you don't like Obama, already, now what are you going to do for the country? Remember, 'Country First', or is that another one of your useless slogans?

Tantoh Augustin   September 13th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

Its strange how a VP should out of the blue dominate Mccain the way it is now,it will b very difficult for mccain to get back his position as the head of the republic ticket,
So I think maccain has reach his peak so after this the polls can only go down for mccain.

This is patently absurd. Immigration reform died because Sarah Palin Republicans started screaming 'No Amnesty!" on every media outlet they could find and the Bush Administration backed off. McCain said at the GOP debate in January that he wouldn't vote for his own immigration bill. Does this man stand for anything?

Are we supposed to be suprised about another misleading ad? Considering all the lies, misleading ads, pandering and manipulating the emotions of people, hardly anything would surprise me coming from the McCain campaign.

What does suprises me is that people don't take the time to find out the facts. What's even more suprising is that some people are willing to ignore fact to satisfy a particular emotion, feeling or prejudice.

voter   September 13th, 2008 1:20 pm ET

As a Latina, McCain ad is misleading. McCain said he will not support his own immirgration bill to provide amnesty. If McCain is a maverick, then why won't he vote on his bill. Instead he wants to block the borders which he said earlier he disagreed with. Once again McCain caved to the religious right and the conserverative party. This is not maverick, but a sidekick.

J.L.   September 13th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

So says the anti-immigrant party… sorry Mr. McCain but the GOP is so anti-immigrant that your Spanish language ad won't make much of a difference.

I say "anti-immigrant" vs. "anti-illegal immigrant" because so much of the anti-illegal immigrant movement makes very little distinction between illegal vs. legal. You don't speak english really well, they toss you into the illegal immigrant grouping. You happen to be from south of the border, they suspect you of being an illegal. Etc… etc…

CNN loves Palin   September 13th, 2008 1:18 pm ET

I am sure Ms. Palin will have some incredibly insightful and sensitive things to say about immigration…*eyeroll*

Hip Hop for Obama   September 13th, 2008 1:15 pm ET

GET SMART PEOPLE! MCSAME IS NOT FOR BLACKS OR HISPANICS! I KNOW…I'M BLACK!

No Hillary = No Obama   September 13th, 2008 1:14 pm ET

It's more and more evident that Obama doesn't know what he is doing or talking about. He got caught up in his own hoopla, thought he could get rid of Hillary because he was invincible and now is losing in the polls. He has placed the historic possibility of a Black becoming President in jeporady because he couldn't see past his own ego. And this guy wants to be President? Poor judgment, poor leadership & decision making, shortsighted and full of himself.

McCain is shooting himself in the foot with these negative, spurious ads. They prove that he IS an old-guard, sling-mud-and-innuendo politco. I do want change. And, Senator McCain, you lost my vote with the yesteryear ads you're running.

Jade   September 13th, 2008 1:11 pm ET

Obama and the democratic party should ought to be ashamed of themselves. They have been tearing apart families of immigrant workers. They have been conducting raids on unsespecting families and when the children go home from school their parents aren't there because they have been arrested and sent back to Mexico. Shame on you, shame on the American people who can't and won't get along with their neighbors. In the Bible it states that we are supposed to love our neighbors. We are supposed to feed them when they are hungry, give them something to drink when they are thirsty, clothe them when they are naked. You people are not doing what is expected of you and God will lay harsher punishments on you lest you should turn from your evil ways and turn to help your neighbors. Mexico is our neighbor and when I was growing up I remember going there every week. You want others to like the United States. But how can other countries like us when they see how we treat our brothers the Mexicans. Dems and Obama and Biden shame on you……………

STOPTHELIES   September 13th, 2008 1:10 pm ET

This is the most ridiculous claim yet. I am a very well informed voter and know for a fact the Republican Party is 100% against immigrants.
McCain has been trying to avoid any discussion about immigration on all the Spanish interviews I've seen. He might be Pro-Immigration but he cant be against the blood sucking republicans. Palin says she is fought the "Good Ol' Boys" but John McCain has adopted all their believes.

Will Rhodes   September 13th, 2008 1:10 pm ET

How and why is CNN letting the McCain camp get away with these ad's?

You are a respected news organisation, I am English lving in Canada and I just cannot believe that you let this all flow as if it is normal.

The BBC and ITV would be all over this and not allowing the McCain campaign lie like this.

Felix   September 13th, 2008 1:09 pm ET

I expect some lying in a presidential election, but this is ridiculous. Has a single McCain ad not been determined to be a lie over the last two weeks?

Factcheck.org is going crazy with McCain comments.

Kate Fergus   September 13th, 2008 1:09 pm ET

For 8 years, the GOP have controlled the government and had the opportunity to make some meaningful changes to immigration laws. What did they do - sat on their hands!!

I am dismayed that someone who was so dedicated to his country and endured such cruelty doesn't have the integrity to be honest. So far, McCain's ads have been nothing but lies. In addition, he has demonstrated that he has poor judgment by choosing Palin as his running mate. These actions do not support his claims to love his country. They are the actions of a desperate man who will do anything to gain power.

It is time for the public to see the facts. That means it is incumbent upon the press to report them. And when McCain and Palin are exposed for the frauds they are, it is important that the public congratulate the press for finally doing its job. I am tired of hearing the right call the press supporters of the liberal left wing when they report the truth.

The Republicans can't handle the truth! Let's hope that there is an intelligent group of voters out there who won't fall for the hype!!
Stick with the issues McCain. Oh, I forgot. If you stick to the issues, you have no campaign. You only have more of the last 8 years.

pam haynes   September 13th, 2008 1:09 pm ET

That was realy dirty it will haunt you what you are doing is pushing Obama into his destiny. This is not the way to take away Obamas lead the phsycology of getting people to vote for you is not dealing dirty as i said to you before when Palin spoke about his community Organisation he gained a million Dollars in a New York Minute. This is news I bet even for the "Clinton News Network"

Palin troopergate timeline…and her lack of judgement.

Sarah "Follow Americans Lend me Your Ear-marks" Palin

Long before this became an issue for Sarah…in 2005 she should have seen this was not a fight she should take on….But as she gained more and more power she took it unpon herself to do things she will regret.

Sarah where is your "Judgement"…this is going to bite her…she was told by members of her own party how to handle this issue and she of course wouldn't listen. Must of us would have listened and moved on with our lives after these warnings:

Judge Suddock (A republican) was disturbed by the alleged attacks by Palin and her family members on Wooten's behavior and character. "Disparaging will not be tolerated—it is a form of child abuse," the judge told a settlement hearing in October 2005.

Did she listen…NO

In the letter, July 14th, 2008, written before Sen. John McCain picked the Alaska governor as his running mate, former U.S. Attorney Wevley Shea (A republican) warned Gov. Palin that “the situation is now grave” and recommended that she and her husband, Todd Palin, apologize for “overreaching or perceived overreaching” for using her position to try to get Trooper Mike Wooten fired from the force.

Did she listen…No

July 18th 2008…Palin says. in a statement…"To allege that I, or any member of my family, requested, received or released confidential personnel information on an Alaska State Trooper, or directed disciplinary action be taken against any employee of the Department of Public Safety, is, quite simply, outrageous,"

“Hold me accountable,” she challenge her critics.

she denied orchestrating any calls.

Then on August 13th 2008…

In a recorded conversation, Bailey (a Palin Staffer) is heard saying: “Todd and Sarah are scratching their heads, why on earth hasn't, why is this guy still representing the department? He's a horrible recruiting tool. … You know, I mean from their perspective, everyone's protecting him.”

Sarah comes out that day to tell us and says "I do now have to tell Alaskans that such pressure could have been perceived to exist although I have only now become aware of it," After 26 known call and untold e-mails…she still tries to cover up…instead of apologizing she goes on to say.

"Many of these inquiries were completely appropriate. However, the serial nature of the contacts could be perceived as some kind of pressure, presumably at my direction,"

Gov. Palin pledged the full cooperation of herself and her staff

After all this the cat is out of the bag…

Bailey's lawyer Greg Grebe had kept Bailey from meeting Branchflower who was hired by the Republican legislature to "investigate the circumstances and events surrounding the termination of former Public Safety Commissioner Monegan"

Now the evil liberals are out to get Sarah…

When the truth of the matter is

Sarah is out to get Sarah and so far she is doing a pretty good job.

She has lost my vote.

Chris   September 13th, 2008 1:07 pm ET

"But Obama and McCain cast identical votes in the major congressional showdowns on the issue last year."

McCain is pathetic…

cbenji   September 13th, 2008 1:07 pm ET

so apparently McCain's campaign strategy is to tell lie after lie in the hopes that many americans will believe them. the sad part is that his strategy will probably work to a certain extent.

Danielle MN   September 13th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

So, Obama has "no record" until it becomes convenient to admit it and then, misrepresent it? Awesome.

Barack Obama does have a record. A record of having sponsored, co-sponsored, written or co-written 800 pieces of legislation over the course of a 12 year career in public office.

Obama's record and stance on immigration favors border security, a bridge to citizenship and reform.

More BS from McCain.

MY   September 13th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

GOP! you don't even get the grammar right out of your commercial, hire people that know Spanish:
Pero No listos para Gobernar, is wrong, is common talk, in written terms you should say Pero no "estan" listos para gobernar.
You worry to much about Obama, instead on focusing on the issues, specially "EDUCATION".
And now you wonder why they call you stupid? LOL

GO OBAMA!

Sue in MI   September 13th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

I guess McCain has decided that since halfway educated white voters are seeing through his lying ads (FactCheck is a wonderful thing, but since McCain doesn't USE the Internet, he probably doesn't even know that every ad he has run in the past month has been debunked, including this one) he'll go after the Hispanics. I doubt that they will believe his sudden interest in their welfare either.

Anne Hamil   September 13th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

I can believe such bold lies still work. I'm shaking my head in disbelief, as I imagine the Obama campaign is. McCain's campaign sets new lows on a daily basis.

Melvin   September 13th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

MCCAIN WOULD RATHER LOSE HIS INTEGRITY THAN LOSE AN ELECTION!!!!

KLJ   September 13th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

Sen. McCain has mastered the art of double talk! While he publicly states he would like to eliminate the negativity that pervades our political process, he allows his campaign to continue producing ads that distort the truth. If he is truly serious, he can put an end to it by simplying saying no mas! The problem is some Republicans believe the only way they can win is to confuse the American people on the issues by resorting to negative ads. (Please note I said some not all Republicans.)

But the real question is when are we the American people going to say enough is enough. Until we stop allowing this kind of behavior, we will never see a change from Democrats, Republicans, and other politicalparties. We have to rise up and say stop it!

Obama/Biden in 2008!

mitchell   September 13th, 2008 1:05 pm ET

when is someone going to do something about libelous ads. this is ridiculous and the FEC should do something about it. half of americans hate their lies and the liars love them. it's not right!

DC   September 13th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

Bottom-line

The current policies would be the same policies if McCain were elected.

If you want new policies, then Obama is the right choice.

Matt   September 13th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

This pathetic excuse for a presidential campaign has single-handedly created enough material for Al Franken to write a sequel to "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them."

Rich   September 13th, 2008 1:02 pm ET

How many false ads is McCain going to run before he really gets called out for doing so…this is just ridiculous…

ervin   September 13th, 2008 1:02 pm ET

john mcsame should be ashamed of his self. i wish the gop would talk about the issues. all they can do is through mud. is this change? the kind of change we need in america.

Is CNN ever going to do a show on MCCains failed memory for HIS actual votes. Instead of running story after story about Palin. She will not be president (unless he drops dead). Get Back to the issues and report the truth about what the canidates are saying and what their actual records are.

This is starting to look like a trend for McCain. Seeming to mislead voters with his ads. Wish there would be more accountabitly by news organizations to call him out.

Lies, Lies, and More Lies!   September 13th, 2008 1:02 pm ET

John "Pinocchio" McCain should stop telling lies and approving messages that promote the spread of lies. John McCain is not a man of honor. "County First"? I don't think so!

John McCain, how about telling the truth for a change?! You need to publicly repent from the sin of speading false witness against your neighbor. Like it or not, Barack Obama is you neighbor. STOP THE LIES AND HALF-TRUTHS NOW! In the eyes of God, all sin is sin. There is no little sin or big sin. Sin is sin!

Shame on you, John McCain! You are providing a very poor example of how a campaign is to be run and how young men and women are behave as public servans.

Another lying and sleazy ad cut out of the fabric of Karl Rove and endorsed by John McCain. What a transformation McCain has made from 2000 just to win an election or at least the guy I thought who was decent and honest in 2000?

It is enough! It is high time the media quite protecting him and expose the raw lies he runs in his ads because he is literally afraid to talk about the issues, because he wasnt to distance himself from Bush for hwome he supported 90% of the time. We deserve a better person in the White House then that? Otherwise, we're getting 'more of the same."

Republican Turned Democrat   September 13th, 2008 1:02 pm ET

How sad is this!!! All the polls share information about democrats voting for McCain and Palin; however, you should also find out how many republicans are voting democratic. I will start the count for you…

One of the reason this kind of lies gets conveyed largely to the public is the amateurism of the press in this country. Here, we have blatant lies about an immigration reform that has been perfectly documented but nonetheless, you would not see a single journalist ready to do an analysis on this. Rather, you would have a fade Wolf Blitzer or John King trying to mitigate this and pretend they are fair to both campaigns. But how fair is it to the American public when such blatant lies are not called for what they are?

More McBush lies…

Denise   September 13th, 2008 1:01 pm ET

When will the Mc Cain campaign stop attacking Obama….this is ridiculous…..how can the real subjects come on the for front when the democratic nominee has to defend himself continuously from slander…..come on ……and if people are stupid enough to vote again for Republicans….than you have not learn a thing about the last 8 years.

It Can't Happen Here? Just wait and see. By his use of patently untrue and ugly propaganda, it appears that McCain's campaign will push the limits in testing Sinclair Lewis's old fear from the 1930s.

Don   September 13th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

More lies from deflect central. When is the news media going to start calling McCain's hand on some of this. I guess
