McCain ad slams Obama, Senate Democrats on immigration

New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.
New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.

(CNN) –
John McCain’s campaign is running a Spanish language ad in battleground states that blames Barack Obama and Senate Democrats for the failure of attempts to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws - even though the Republican nominee and his Democratic counterpart cast identical votes in the key Senate showdowns on that issue last year

“Obama and his congressional allies say they are on the side of immigrants. But are they?” asks the announcer in the 30-second spot, “Which Side Are They On?”

“The press reports that their efforts were 'poison pills' that made immigration reform fail,” he continues. “The result: No guest worker program. No path to citizenship. No secure borders. No reform. Is that being on our side? Obama and his Congressional allies ready to block immigration reform, but not ready to lead.”

But Obama and McCain cast identical votes in the major congressional showdowns on the issue last year. Both men cast votes in favor of an unsuccessful early June effort to end a filibuster. Later that month, they voted again to end debate on the issue – but again failed to shut down the filibuster effort, led for the most part by Republican senators.

The ad will air in Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada, all crucial fall states with significant Hispanic voting populations.

Why is John McCain continually allowed to lie? Every ad he has put forth in the last couple of months have been proven to be LIES however he is allowed to continue to spurt these LIES over and over.

WAKE UP MEDIA AND DO YOUR JOB

    Report the TRUTH

WTG John! ..keep hitting them where it hurts. Seems to me the Obama campaign is always a day late in their weak ineffective attacks.

Are there no national guidelines for truth in political ads? When companies use lies (either outright or by ommission) and deliberately try to mislead the public we have "truth in advertizing" yet with something as important as who will be elected president it seems you can say whatever you want. This tactic worked to get Dubya in office twice, and now we're seeing McCain (who used to be an honorable man – shame on you!!!) and his campaign doing the same thing. Sarah Palin may have eventually "stopped the bridge to nowhere", but she kept the money for something else! Isn't that worse? And the claim she's aginst earmarks ... she's very high on the list of governors asking for earmarks! The kindergaten sex education ad – another lie – and now this. Shame on you John McCain!! I supported you 8 years ago because you were an honest man who truly cared. You have lost my respect AND any chance of winning my vote.

That figures. Why would mccain not lie to hispanic people as well? How does the campaign keep telling outright lies and get away with it. We all know that he is in bed with bush on immigration.

    No more lies!

So McCain is willing to lose the presidency to win a war. Apparently he is not willing to tell the truth in order to will a presidency. Wow, this is a man that I had truly admired. I honestly believed the "maverick" tag. Now, the man who derided the politics of Bush/Rove in 2000 and said he intended to run a civil and respectful campaign has shown his desperation. He lies about Sarah Palin's record on earmarks and consistantly runs ads telling out and out lies about Barack Obama. Amazing! My respect for him ended.

I'm so sick of McCain and his BS ads. His excuse that if Obama would have just done town hall meetings with him and this would be a different race is ridiculus. Just because Obama doesn't want to travel aroun the country doing meetings is NO EXCUSE TO LIE to the public.

What a pathetic attempt to get the Latino vote. I never ever would have believed that McCain would have run such a disgisting campaign.

ADDICTION is a epidemic in this country. Baffling and powerful to those who don't suffer. We as citizens, have enabled this addiction and it's time it stop. We have to demand truth and require the media to demand it as well.

If the Republicans are really about change, an INTERVENTION is necessary. Seek treatment and follow these steps for life:

    1. "Admit that you are powerless over your lies and hypocracy and that your interviews have become unmanageable."
    2. "Come to believe that your higher power can restore you to sanity"
    3. "Make a decision to turn your will and your lies over to the care of God as you understand Him"
    4. "Make a searching and fearless moral inventory of yourselves."
5.."Admit to God, to yourselves, and to the citizens of this country the exact nature of your wrongs."
    6. "Be entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character."
    7. "Humbly asked Him to remove your shortcomings."
    8. "Make a list of all citizens you have harmed, and become willing to make amends to them all."
    9. "Make direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others."
    10. "Continue to take personal inventory and when you are wrong, promptly admit it.
    11. "Seek through prayer and meditation to improve your conscious contact with God as you understand Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for you not lie or mislead and the power to carry that out."
    12. "Once you have had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, try to carry this truth to citizens of the US, and to practice these principles in all your affairs."

Thanks for getting the real facts out on this one...Obama needs all the help he can get to keep these Republican lies from taking over. It's time for real, honest, information. This election is too important.

thats right Mccain...continue depending on fooling the people who you think are stupid or illiterate. Spanish people are not all iliterate, and this should have been a perfect time to talk about your own record. its strong enough by itself without lies and bush-rove tactics. Will the real Mccain please stand up? You owe it to the voters to reveal who you will be after elections are over. I dont like the split personality John, who says the words "honor" and "integrity" but does not mean them. I realize that you lost the election the last time by refusing to participate in the lies. But this time, its obviously "election first"

I am really getting sick of McCain's lies, over & over again and the hockey mom scares the hell out of me. After seeing her interviews I now believe she is such a phony. Being a Republican all my life and suffering through the last 8 years, I certainly will not be voting Republican this year.

How low will McCain stoop? I can't believe how this campaign continues to produce ad after ad that are simply false. I am amazed at the lack of honesty and ethics coming out of the "Straight Talk Express." The McCain I respected and trusted a few years ago is long gone.

I know now why Republicans win elections. They spare no mercy. They will lie, cheat and steal if their own personal agenda is victorious. Why would you want McCain and Palin in the white house, certainly you can see what they are doing. The sad part, they don't even care if they are found out to be liars. What does that say about their character. In today's society it is well time people stand on their own feet and not degrade themselves and their intire party for personal gain.

Senator McCain has done NOTHING for Arizona even after being in Washington for over twenty years. The illegal alien problem is out of control and it is only recently he was interested. Now since he is running for president he sides witrh the citizens that a fence should be built.HELLO! The drug runners and the drugs are coming over the border and the killings are out of control. Have you ever known of a U.S. senator who has never once tried to get some well needed earmarks for his own state? That is McCain and he is proud of that. He would rather allocate money for the people of Iraq and to build their country than do anything for the tax paying citizens of Arizona. If he can't take care of his own state he won't be able to take care of the country. Wake up people!
