McCain ad slams Obama, Senate Democrats on immigration

New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.

New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.

(CNN) -
John McCain’s campaign is running a Spanish language ad in battleground states that blames Barack Obama and Senate Democrats for the failure of attempts to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws - even though the Republican nominee and his Democratic counterpart cast identical votes in the key Senate showdowns on that issue last year

“Obama and his congressional allies say they are on the side of immigrants. But are they?” asks the announcer in the 30-second spot, “Which Side Are They On?”

“The press reports that their efforts were 'poison pills' that made immigration reform fail,” he continues. “The result: No guest worker program. No path to citizenship. No secure borders. No reform. Is that being on our side? Obama and his Congressional allies ready to block immigration reform, but not ready to lead.”

But Obama and McCain cast identical votes in the major congressional showdowns on the issue last year. Both men cast votes in favor of an unsuccessful early June effort to end a filibuster. Later that month, they voted again to end debate on the issue – but again failed to shut down the filibuster effort, led for the most part by Republican senators.

The ad will air in Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada, all crucial fall states with significant Hispanic voting populations.

Why are Republicans airing commercials consisting of lies? They lied about Obama teaching sex-ed to kindergarten kids, about the lipstick on a pig comment and now this? Why doesn't anyone call them out on lies?!

McCain- please stop. Country First? What a joke. You are such a piece of crap. You swear on your integrity and then lie. You swore you'd be civilized and you smear. As a mom, I weep for my kid's futre if you are elected.

Typical republican lies. This goes to show that they can't win on the issues so they resort to lying to the American public.

How can such McCain lies not confronted? He really is losing or has lost his integrity to win an election.

When isn't McCain attacking Barack Obama through ludacris ads? McCain only gets any coverage by the press through Palin's apperances and his ads. McCain and Bush represent the same policies, and it doesn't matter how much he steals Obama's slogan for "Change," America sees straight through it. Please stop trying to manipulate us into thinking McCain is really for change. The guy has been in the Washington all these years, and for the last 8 alone has voted with President Bush 90% of the time. How is that "Change?" Is it change now, because he wants your vote? Republicans will say and do anything to get you to vote for them. Let's stand up truth and for ourselves. We've had a failed President for 8 years, let's now elect a new leader and get ourselves out of this mess. VOTE OBAMA!

Is the McCain campaign capable of producing one truthful, non-misleading ad?

    It doesn't look like it.

Does McCain even know what the truth is anymore??? Yesterday he lied about palins record on the view saying she never took any earmarks as govenor. She took 450 million as governor so that was clearly a lie. Then the BS ads he ran earlier in week was complete lies about sex education and the pig comment. He keeps saying Obama is going to raise taxes when his tax plan clearly will not raise taxes, even several republicans agree that Obamas tax plan will reduce taxes. Now this ad.. Where he tries to make obama look bad when he voted for the same thing.. What total and complete lies.. He has totally lost the honor he had when he was in military, I have lost all respect for him. He has been in washington way to long and has been hanging out with his lobbyist friends to long to..
    OBAMA 08

I cannot believe how low McCain has sunk. To think I used to respect him. Everything that's coming out of his mouth is a lie.

McCain does it again and sinks to a new low. Again he distorts his own record and distorts the facts. The fact is that both McCain and Obama voted identically. Does McCain really think Americans are that stupid!

This is why McCain might very well win. He and his campaign officials will lie and cheat their way to victory. Gosh, he used to be such an honorable man. Or, did he? Before he made the honorable decision to stay in Hanoi and face lord-knows-what in the torture chambers, he was a trouble making ladies man at Annapolis. After Hanoi, he used his new wife's money to campaign his way into a Senate seat.
Why do we give him so much credit while, at the same time, discounting everything that Obama has done? Obama is elitist? PLEASE. GIVE ME A BREAK. Nothing is more elite than the US Naval Academy. ENOUGH with the lies, hypocrisy, and spin from "Bush's Brain" and the republican robots who watch Fox News. Makes my stomach sick.

Don't blame McCain. He can't remember where he stands on MANY issues, what he voted for, or whether or not he was even present to vote. He also thinks we're too stupid to go to factcheck to validate his claims. Then again, he's not computer literate himself, so I guess it just doesn't occur to him. Give an old guy a break.

Just a thought... the counter punch to this would to tell Hispanic voters how the Republican led congress killed this bill, let's show the votes. Wouldn't these ads put Republicans on the defense in those states. Hispanics aren't stupid... that know pander, sincerity, and who & what is in there best interests!

Also what Republicans and their ilk don't seem to understand, when you denigrate Women, African-Americans, Hispanics, Gays, you're denigrating them all. What have republican done in the last 8 years for any group.

Once again lies and deception by the repubs. Obama sponsored a bill last year to secure the borders, for immigration reform and a secure path to citizenship.

This the work of somebody who is ready to lead "Pero listos para Gobernar".

Obama will bring prosperity and security to th people of America again.

    Pero listos para Gobernar!

Will CNN PLEASE start POINTING OUT in the HEADLINES of their stories - THE FACTS - that John McCain is a LIAR in his attacks? It is not enought to hear both sides - hear from both campaigns. The corporate media has a moral obligation to point out THE TRUTH of the matter - not just make quotes from the sides. This is JOURNALISM - not be-fair-to-the-GOPism.

This is "ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING" I heard tremendous respect for McCain. If you have to stoop this low to win a vote, just makes me wonder if you are worth to lead the American people.. Over and over, you are getting caught in lies. This kind of lies are the ones that are hurting the America people, this kind of lies with no fact checks are the ones that Bush administration exercise towards the Iraq, war. McCain could not even respect the 9/11 victims, when he aired negative ads in Colorado.

There seem to also be lack of synergy between Palin and McCain issues.
and Palin's remarks on the war as God sent war, does that imply that she thinks of it as "HOLY WAR" Just something does not seem right, but GOD BLESS THE U.S.A

As disgusting as it is, the McCain campaign's strategy of 'lies lies and more lies' is working. They're wisely playing to the intellectual laziness of many Americans, and once again, that approach is turning the tide to the R's as it has in recent elections. As a centrist, it's hard to watch this happen once again, but it's hard to deny the effectiveness of this strategy. As long as Americans simply swallow what's being fed, this situation will persist.

When is this going to end?

I'm sicked and tired of hearing the major lies, distortions, half-truths from the McCain/Palin campaign.

When is the national news media going to put a halt to this and start pinning candidates down to specific answers on questions instead of letting them side-step the issue.

If this is the best that ALL national news media outlets can do, then they collectively n eed to relinquish their broadcast licenses to the FCC.

You are doing nothing short of a major disservice to the American people and this country.

My advice to you is cover the news, but not invent it. SHUT UP or PUT UP!!!

John McCain clearly understands that there is no chance in hell that they can win with the facts and issues, so they decided to follow the bush approach to get into white house. The media has the responsibility to put the facts in front of the people and call John McCain as out right Liar. The Republic party strategy of scare the people scare the media and win the elections is also effecting the media. Media is failing this country.
