McCain ad slams Obama, Senate Democrats on immigration

New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.
New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.

(CNN) –
John McCain’s campaign is running a Spanish language ad in battleground states that blames Barack Obama and Senate Democrats for the failure of attempts to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws - even though the Republican nominee and his Democratic counterpart cast identical votes in the key Senate showdowns on that issue last year

“Obama and his congressional allies say they are on the side of immigrants. But are they?” asks the announcer in the 30-second spot, “Which Side Are They On?”

“The press reports that their efforts were 'poison pills' that made immigration reform fail,” he continues. “The result: No guest worker program. No path to citizenship. No secure borders. No reform. Is that being on our side? Obama and his Congressional allies ready to block immigration reform, but not ready to lead.”

But Obama and McCain cast identical votes in the major congressional showdowns on the issue last year. Both men cast votes in favor of an unsuccessful early June effort to end a filibuster. Later that month, they voted again to end debate on the issue – but again failed to shut down the filibuster effort, led for the most part by Republican senators.

The ad will air in Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada, all crucial fall states with significant Hispanic voting populations.

Trust Mcshame to your own peril. He has proven over and over again to be a liar and likes to distort the truth. Notice that the delay in the immigration vote was caused by rethuglicans but he is shifting the blame to democrats. He said he wanted to run a clean and respectful campaign but has turned out to be worse than Bush! Vote for McSame to your own detriment. This guy has no understanding of the economy and doesn't know how to use the computer! Anyone that votes for McBush is dummmer than a door knob.

  2. More GOP Lies!!!

    This is unbelievable!

This time, the GOP isn't just lying. They are lying in order to suggest that both camps are on the opposite sides of an issue than they really are. Why is there no immigration reform? Because old-school, narrow-minded Republicans in both the Senate and the White House have blocked it.

To be fair, IN THE PAST, McCain has actually impressed me with his willingness to be reasonable on this subject. But that is the McCain of times past. Typical Republican manipulation. They have Palin to ensure that the conservative base will vote for them. Then McCain ACTS as if he is more progressive on issues, more open minded, etc.

And why do they do this? In order to win elections. Then its back to more of the same. Do any of you really think that the problem is our current president? He is not intelligent enough to be the problem. He is a puppet of the GOP powers that be. This is our chance to see real change.

    MCCAIN-PALIN DO NOT REPRESENT CHANGE!

If you are old-school and believe in the old-school ideas of the GOP party, then vote as you choose. Eventually, there will be more of us than there are of you.

Say no to well-intended third parties. Say no to GOP manipulation. Obama-Biden is not perfect. They do not represent everything you always wanted in politics. But the alternative is frightening.

Obama says he is going to only talk about major issues on wednesday and then launches major attack ad on McCain not using emails..... The reason he doesn’t send email is that he can’t use a keyboard because of the relentless beatings he received from the Viet Cong in service to our country. From the Boston Globe (March 4, 2000): McCain gets emotional at the mention of military families needing food stamps or veterans lacking health care. The outrage comes from inside: McCain’s severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes. Friends marvel at McCain’s encyclopedic knowledge of sports. He’s an avid fan – Ted Williams is his hero – but he can’t raise his arm above his shoulder to throw a baseball.

Gee, the McCain campaign bending the truth to boost their ticket? What a revelation. He's a pathetic, lying old man and has selected his perfect running mate – aka co-liar – in the immensely qualified Ms. Governor Air-Head.

I am so saddened by all of this.

I am a registered Republican who supported John McCain in 2000 and cast my vote for McCain in the 2008 primary.

I was one of the millions who believed that he was an honorable man and would rise above the slime slinging and conduct an honorable campaign.

I had hopes that this time around, both candidate's focus would be on rallying around America's strengths, not pandering to the ignorance, bigotry, fears and stupidity of America's weakest intellects.

After the travesties of the Clintons and Dubya, I had hopes that Honor would be restored to the White House.

In my thirty year career, I was involved with working with management in over 30 corporations directly or as a consultant.

One of my beliefs that eveloved from that experience is that one of the most important aspects of the top person in any institution is in setting the culture... defining, by example, the ethics that his or her subordinates will emulate.

We have seen the examples of the Clintons and Dubya. I believe that it is time to restore Honor in the White House.

Only one candidate has attempted to keep to the high road throughout the primaries and through the convention, and he will be getting my vote in November.

It will NOT be John McCain.

This is becoming really sad. It's like the facts mean nothing to McCain's campaign and the bad part is so many people will hear him say these things and take him at face value. I can't believe how much McCain has sold out. If McCain would blatantly lie, lies that have been brought to light, what would he do once in office? Makes me wonder who came up with the WMD excuse for war.

They voted the SAME way. Talk about the pot calling the ketle black. I cannot believe the level that the McCain campain is sinking to. It is shamefull. Does he even care about the truth? Of course he doesn't. For someone who says "country first" he sure has a win at all costs attitude. I used to have a lot of respect for John McCain, it's all gone now.

Sad isn't it? The other ads with lies were bad enough, but I think this one takes the cake. Especially since McCain and Obama both voted the same. And wasn't it the Republicans that all voted NO? Desperation has gotten the better of John McCain. Americans need to wake up and see that all of these ads are basically calling us all stupid.

love how McCain sold his soul to become the president his last dying wish, false ad's like this are why i'm supporting barak obama for president he is honest and he yeilds to the younger generage such as myself (a 20 year old male from richmond, va) and he is honest McCain keeps using a negative approach and i'm tired of it, Palin saying she would go to war with russia if needed scares me more especially with Russia having Nuke's... i am also a very regligous person but i am also for seperation from church and state, and palin wants to have creationism taught in schools, that is against the law i believe wish america would get their act together and see the lies that McCain preaches, he only tells half the truth i want all of the truth which Obama does

And he is going to change Washington? Does he really think the American people are that stupid.

When he chose Palin as his running mate it showed me exactly what comes first to him....the election. His judgement is scary and Palin is not ready to be 2nd in line...scary stuff....

John McCain is a joke. I get that both Obama and McCain have spinned each others record and their own record throughout the election season. But I have never seen so many articles that call into question the integrity of a candidate's ads.

Enough. This country has been led by an administration that for the last eight years has been deceptive, vindictive, and poorly managed. From all accounts that seems to fit the McCain campaign to a T. If voters allow him to get away with this type of campaigning this go round' then it will be par for the course going forward. I can't believe that a man that spoke out so forcefully after what happened to him by the Bush thugs in 2000, is not only participating in the same type of behavior, but hired the same team and the proteges to win the presidency.

For get policy, McCain has no principles. And if he is willing to forsake his principles to win, that is NOT the type of leader that I want to have. Period.

If they cast identical votes last year, how can McCain get away with this kind of lying? Don't we have ethics laws that deal with this? I can see hedging the facts a bit to make oneself look better, but ultimately, doesn't someone running for President have to be honest? Why doesn't the MSM call him out on his lies? Every candidate should be forced to be honest.

Another of McCain lies... why he just can lay out his policy. Isn't that much more simple as voter can sample what is his take on the issues. Totally lost respect on this guy. So much so for country first.
