McCain ad slams Obama, Senate Democrats on immigration

New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.
New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.

(CNN) –
John McCain’s campaign is running a Spanish language ad in battleground states that blames Barack Obama and Senate Democrats for the failure of attempts to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws - even though the Republican nominee and his Democratic counterpart cast identical votes in the key Senate showdowns on that issue last year

“Obama and his congressional allies say they are on the side of immigrants. But are they?” asks the announcer in the 30-second spot, “Which Side Are They On?”

“The press reports that their efforts were 'poison pills' that made immigration reform fail,” he continues. “The result: No guest worker program. No path to citizenship. No secure borders. No reform. Is that being on our side? Obama and his Congressional allies ready to block immigration reform, but not ready to lead.”

But Obama and McCain cast identical votes in the major congressional showdowns on the issue last year. Both men cast votes in favor of an unsuccessful early June effort to end a filibuster. Later that month, they voted again to end debate on the issue – but again failed to shut down the filibuster effort, led for the most part by Republican senators.

The ad will air in Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada, all crucial fall states with significant Hispanic voting populations.

Your average television viewer don't know about the identical voting records on this issue - nor will they probably even care. Just like every other ad released by the McCain campaign so far, this one is strictly designed to instill fear and generate negativity. Who cares if it's accurate or not, as long as people get scared and tell their friends and neighbors. Why hasn't the MSM run front page articles and confront McCain on every lie and distortion? Why do people simply accept that these dirty tactics are a part of politics? America deserves better, and if you don't think so, then you're probably voting for McCain and you deserve to have him for 4 years. Good luck.

Talk about Ads. How about the Obama Ad noone seems to mention slamming McCain for not using computers or e-mail. However the Boston Globe of March 4, 2000 says the reason he does not use them is that he cannot comfortably use a KEYBOARD because of injuries inflicted on him under torture while he was a POW.
    Way to Go Obama!
Ridicule disabled people, older people, and veterans all in one ad.
In hockey that's called a "hat trick."

  4. John McCain blatantly lies in almost all their advertisements

John McCain has lost most if not all of his honor and integrity these past few months.

He will say anything even when he knows it's misleading or even a blatant lie.

If the Republican base, the conservative right had their way in this country we all know that this country would remain virtually white.

John McCain has lost all the respect I used to have for him. Naming Sarah Palin who isn't even close to being ready for Washington was strictly political and anything but putting "country first".

Years in a POW camp might not have broken John McCain, but this election has. I expected more from John McCain, but this election has been disgraceful thus far. Bending the truth has happened on both sides, but this ad, and recent ones from the McCain campaign have started what can only be a descent into the mud. McCain might win this election, but at a great cost to his honor. What a shame–he's playing to fear and anger, instead of his famous "straight talk." I'd love to see that bus out and on the roads again with a real message. (And Palin should get on that bus too)

Every four years we have to endure this endless stream of attacks from BOTH sides. I don't want to defend either side. I

t would be nice to talk about the ISSUES - the economy, jobs, health care, energy and how we solve the problem that drilling in the Gulf of Mexico so production is shut down half the summer because of storms - rather than the usual, "My opponent is bad because....."

Unfortunately, ISSUES don't get ratings and don't sell newspapers and don't fill up internet blogs.

    Just a thought.

This camp ran by McCain has made me really take a step back and look at American values. We have a guy running for a president of America and no one is able to question his outright lies. The mainstream media just allows this stuff to get play because of a fear of backlash from a mostly white conservatives. For allowing this I question their love for country by allowing the image of America to be ran into the ground. Others from around the world see this. McCain winning with these tactics will take christianity and run it through the mud. How can you have a guy representing what people call Evangelicals spewing hate and lies accross the tube.

Its truely dishonerable. Im sorry I got a strong belief in morals, values, and character.

America, we can not afford lies and slander the McShame campaign is presenting. If they will clearly lie to the America public about Obama stance on immigration which we know is all untrue...then he will lie about anything...four more years of the same??? I don't think so!!!

Some people are attracted to a Palin ticket because they are hurting in the Bush economy and want their pain to end now. I think those people will be disappointed and disillusioned.

It will depend if America is ready to move on from the scooter Libby / Rove years.

    Hopefully, McCain,72, will retire.

This is the age of the internet and instant rebuttals. Voters have access to the truth. Lies are quickly seen through.

The KARL ROVE POLITICS AND MISLEADING ADVERTISEMENTS ARE NO LONGER EFFECTIVE. PEOPLE WANT THE TRUTH AND ARE WILLING TO GOOGLE TO GET IT.
