McCain ad slams Obama, Senate Democrats on immigration

New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.

New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.

(CNN) -
John McCain’s campaign is running a Spanish language ad in battleground states that blames Barack Obama and Senate Democrats for the failure of attempts to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws - even though the Republican nominee and his Democratic counterpart cast identical votes in the key Senate showdowns on that issue last year

“Obama and his congressional allies say they are on the side of immigrants. But are they?” asks the announcer in the 30-second spot, “Which Side Are They On?”

“The press reports that their efforts were 'poison pills' that made immigration reform fail,” he continues. “The result: No guest worker program. No path to citizenship. No secure borders. No reform. Is that being on our side? Obama and his Congressional allies ready to block immigration reform, but not ready to lead.”

But Obama and McCain cast identical votes in the major congressional showdowns on the issue last year. Both men cast votes in favor of an unsuccessful early June effort to end a filibuster. Later that month, they voted again to end debate on the issue – but again failed to shut down the filibuster effort, led for the most part by Republican senators.

The ad will air in Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada, all crucial fall states with significant Hispanic voting populations.

What I find amazing about this election season is the blatant lies. Usually you see a lot of stretched truth or mischaracterizations but McCain camp has really been hitting hard with one lie after another.

The media needs to start demanding that Palin be allowed to give press conferences and interviews. The McCain camp keeps saying "we'll do it on our time table" – what does that mean?

The public has very little real knowledge about her. We haven't heard her speak unless she was first holed up in a hotel room for days being coached and memorizing responses to key questions. There is very little time between now and election day. So when exactly will the public get to truly see who she is – it is obvious that McCain did not properly vet her so it is up to the media.

Or this will just be another Bush/Cheney election where we don't find out how shady the VP really is until AFTER election.

Wow... the storyline of this ad is "Democrats wanted to help you too much, so we had to block them. Vote for us." Do they think Hispanics are morons?

Are there no truth in advertising laws anymore? The McCain campaign is despicable in their constant lying and distortions. We cannot let them get away with this. Where is the "Straighttalking" John McCain? He must have been brainwashed by Karl Rove and his followers. Does he even know what's going on in his campaign? He helped write the Kennedy-McCain Immigration bill, but when he realized the conservatives would block it, he didn't even show up to vote on his own legislation. Obama needs to let people know that he has done this-on this and other bills (torture, etc.) Talk about no-show legislators. He has ducked so many important votes so that he could not be pinned down on where he stands in an election year. Absoluiely terrible all around!

Even though these claims and ads are false they will ultimately be successful in swaying poorly informed voters. Why?
Because it has been proven that if you tell a lie over and over again, people will start believing it., unfortunately.

Where is the Pinochio-meter. Bush, McCain and Palin couldn't find the "straight talking" truth if it was standing in front of them.

Barrack should hit this guy back really hard using facts like

    Q. Where was John McCain when Hurricane Katrina Hit?

    A. On August 29, 2005, John McCain was celebrating his 69th Birthday with Bush. Hurricane Katrina made landfall as the pair enjoyed cake together.

....and yet when he swung through that area later McCain blasted Bush for not reacting to Katrina and not getting to NOLA quickly enough. What a dud.

McCains whole campaign now is run on lies, betrayel of his principals, and dishonesty. The sad thing is that the biggest casualty of the campaign will be self inflicted. Who will ever have any respect for somebody who willingly sacrifices a lifelong reputation for service/ loyalty to the country, decency, and honesty for personal gain. I guess every one has a price!

With every lie-filled ad that McCain puts out, he loses even more respect from me. I hope others are seeing how low this guy will go to get into the White House. He is definitely not someone I want in charge of the greatest country on earth.

How about if the candidates won't tell the truth, particularly McCain in his recent ads, why doesn't the media refuse to run lying and distorted ads. The media could be helping the country and increasing the serious tone of this political campaign and year by electing to not run slanderous and false ads, what's the matter, too greedy for the ad money?

John McCain has launched another negative ad. What a surprise! When asked about his negative ads at the Service Forum, The View, and a couple of other places his response has been: "If Senator Obama had accepted my proposal to travel together and hold joint town hall meetings, the campaign would have a very different tone." The fact that he is in effect saying: "If Senator Obama had done what I said and not opposed me, I wouldn't have to be punishing him so he has brought this on himself." This gives us a clear picture of the kind of person and potential leader John McCain is and would be. Vindictive if anyone opposes him or his point of view, justifying lies and attacks like his counterpart Bush/Cheney and from a psychological view he is displaying narriscistic and abuser justifications. Enough is Enough! McCain/Palin = Bush/Cheney.

Barack Obama has said in quoting President Abraham Lincoln: "If you don't stop telling lies about me, I will start telling the truth about you."
Go for it Senator Obama-the American people deserve the truth and we are not getting it from McCain/Palin like the last eight years of Bush/Cheney.

Vindictive attacks and lies on and about anyone who doesn't agree with him is not the temperment we want in our next president, and for those who think they do-you should be very, very afraid. McCain/Palin = Bush/Cheney X 10.

Hyprocrites First/Country Second! McCain continues to find new depths in his campaign. The media and public need to wake up and report this for what it is. A big deception like so many others. It is becoming sickening to watch John McCain and his surrogates continue to lie to the American public, and the media especially need to stop legitimizing some of these tactics. It seems that finally CNN is catching on. I look forward to the debates which will expose John McCain for the phony liar that he is, war hero and all.
