McCain ad slams Obama, Senate Democrats on immigration

New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.
New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.

(CNN) –
John McCain’s campaign is running a Spanish language ad in battleground states that blames Barack Obama and Senate Democrats for the failure of attempts to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws - even though the Republican nominee and his Democratic counterpart cast identical votes in the key Senate showdowns on that issue last year

“Obama and his congressional allies say they are on the side of immigrants. But are they?” asks the announcer in the 30-second spot, “Which Side Are They On?”

“The press reports that their efforts were 'poison pills' that made immigration reform fail,” he continues. “The result: No guest worker program. No path to citizenship. No secure borders. No reform. Is that being on our side? Obama and his Congressional allies ready to block immigration reform, but not ready to lead.”

But Obama and McCain cast identical votes in the major congressional showdowns on the issue last year. Both men cast votes in favor of an unsuccessful early June effort to end a filibuster. Later that month, they voted again to end debate on the issue – but again failed to shut down the filibuster effort, led for the most part by Republican senators.

The ad will air in Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada, all crucial fall states with significant Hispanic voting populations.

My hope is that the people of this country do not fall for the lies and trickery that mccain/palin are trying to thrust on the American people! IF this country has not learned it's lesson from the last 8 years and from the very nasty, deceitful karl rove politics, then I see no hope for us at all! We can NOT allow ourselves to fall for this trash again, we can NOT afford to elect the mccain/palin ticket and have more of the same and we can NOT allow "on the job training" for palin in this time of wars and strife! I hope the mainstream media, cable and print continue to call out loud and clear all of the LIES that MCCAIN keeps perpetuating. They think if they say it enough people will believe them because that's exactly what happened in 2000 and 2004! I hope this time they are wrong!

This is truly a new low. Lies after lies. Do they think because it is in Spanish nobody will notice? I am disgusted and disappointed in Senator McCain. The funny thing is I use to like him. Not anymore, just absolutely appalled.

Why not spread lies in Spanish also?

Why not just state McCain's position instead of bashing the other guy?

    Desperation?

McBush has really gone off the deep end . I do commend Barbara Walters and the other ladies on "The View" for asking the tuff questions the portrayed him for the dishonest politician he is.

This election is going to come down to "How many morons are there in America"? If the answer is "A lot", McCain will win.

Yet another McCain ad that says nothing positive about McCain. I guess even he realizes there's nothing positive to say about him.

It's disturbing to see the recent slew of ads that are being run by the once honorable John McCain. He is counting on the apathy of the average American towards politics to win him this campaign. If we as a politic wake up on do research on both candidates we would be more informed in terms on who is stretching the truth and who is not.

Obama need to hit back quick on this one with truth about Obama voted in favor on this bill and not let these people think others word. Most people just see, listen, and believe without researching for the truth. It is Obama camp job to get the truth out the votering. I will continue to sent money to Obama every two weeks so he can have enough money to fight these smeared ads.

Shame on John McCain. He has completely traded his honor ... indeed everything that made him heroic ... for political game. I don't know how he lives with himself. Sham on him.

McCain votes against the immigration legislation he introduced and tries to blame Obama for it when in the same breath he admits that Obama voted FOR his bill? What do the Rovian spin doctors think we voters are – Stupid?
It's obvious from this ad that the McCain/Palin smear-miesters are getting dizzy from their own spinning!!
Just more of the neocon rethugs "smear, fear, mocks and lies" (only this time in Spanish) that McCain/Palin say they have to resort to because Obama won't debate in town halls. What a lame excuse from a lame ticket...
    Fact check people, FACT CHECK!

THIS CLEARLY SHOWS THAT MC'CAIN WOULD APPROVE ANY AD TO GET ELECTED, WHERE IS THE REAL MC'CAIN THAT STANDS FOR THE TRUTH AND INTEGRITY, WE ALL KNOW HOW THE IMMIGRATION ISSUE WENT DOWN LAST YEAR AND FOR MC'CAIN TO ALLOW THIS KIND OF AD TO AIR, SHOWS THE KIND OF MAN THAT HE IS, NO INTEGRITY.

Just another "sneer and smear" ad that John McCain is running against Obama! Numerous lies are being spread and the media keeps running them. Maybe it is time for stations to held responsible if they knowingly run ads that are lies! This type of campaigning has to stop. One question: By angering the Democrats that control Congress, how is he planning to govern? I don't think his standard "I shouldn't have done than and I'm sorry" is going to work this time.

How any voter cannot see through the McCain advertising strategy of smears and lies is completely beyond me. This is disgusting.

The McCain of 2008 is a sell-out, executing the political smut that he himself was a victim of at the hands of W and Rove in 2000. He tries to sell himself on the virtue of the character he showed as a POW. That may have been his character 40 years ago, but those virtues are obviously long gone now. A reformer? Ha! We need reform from the garbage that he is pulling right now.

Is this the real McCain we're now seeing and hearing–a guy who lies, grossly distorts the truth and seems willing to do anything to get into the White House??? Where's the "straight shooter" gone? Didn't we have enough lying with George Bush? Doesn't anyone remember Richard Nixon–"Peace with honor", "I have a plan", "I am not a crook"? Isn't it obvious that the Republican strategy requires that you sell your soul to the devil to get elected President. Wake up America! Satan is driving the McCain Express. I'm not kidding.

Here again we have John McCain trying to pull a fast one. And the sad part is there are some fools out there that will believe him. The only ads he puts out are negative. He never once had put forward something to show what he would do to help this country. He is a sad commentary of today's society.

OH GIVE ME A BREAK! McCain abandoned this very same immigration bill that HE sponsored running for the Republican nomination. This guy is such nonsense. Lord have mercy, Obama, wipe the floor with him and then whoop him again for not getting up in the corners.

as an independent, i was leaning towards Mccain due to his history of personal courage, his history of bucking his party, his history of opposing pork-barrel spending, and his energy policy. however, when it comes to new policy ideas, Obama has the upper-hand. now, as Mccain continues to make outrageous claims in his advertising, which is simply dirty and is reminiscent of Bush/Rove politics, i'd have to say i am completely turned off. his self-portrayal of honor and personal courage and integrity is negated, in my view, and his promise of running an honorable campaign seems to be anything but. it is strategically smart, and the only way he can win, by distorting truths and fighting dirty, which is something Obama won't do or otherwise risk muddying up his brand. but it appears to me Mccain is willing to sacrifice his own integrity, self, and soul for the presidency. come November, no matter what happens from here, Obama has my vote.
