McCain ad slams Obama, Senate Democrats on immigration

New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.
New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.

(CNN) –
John McCain’s campaign is running a Spanish language ad in battleground states that blames Barack Obama and Senate Democrats for the failure of attempts to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws - even though the Republican nominee and his Democratic counterpart cast identical votes in the key Senate showdowns on that issue last year

“Obama and his congressional allies say they are on the side of immigrants. But are they?” asks the announcer in the 30-second spot, “Which Side Are They On?”

“The press reports that their efforts were 'poison pills' that made immigration reform fail,” he continues. “The result: No guest worker program. No path to citizenship. No secure borders. No reform. Is that being on our side? Obama and his Congressional allies ready to block immigration reform, but not ready to lead.”

But Obama and McCain cast identical votes in the major congressional showdowns on the issue last year. Both men cast votes in favor of an unsuccessful early June effort to end a filibuster. Later that month, they voted again to end debate on the issue – but again failed to shut down the filibuster effort, led for the most part by Republican senators.

The ad will air in Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada, all crucial fall states with significant Hispanic voting populations.

I have serious misgivings about John McCain's sanity. I have always admired him and thought of him as being one of our best and most honest politicians. This move–to select a scary unknown from nowhere–reveals perhaps a side of McCain that we have not seen. Palin is scary for a variety of reasons. She is bringing out the racist, the reverse sexist and the reactionary in a vast number of Americans at a time when we should be focusing on the economy and jobs. As a woman and a soccer mom, I am shocked and stunned by her huge support from women across the US. A soccer mom is NOT qualified to be the president of the US or any other country. A mayor of a tiny village is NOT prepared to run a country such as ours.

This is just typical dirty politics at play again. The facts are clearly against McCain's absurd accusations again, and my respect for this man is increasingly falling. I used to respect him for being an independent minded politician, who took his own stand on things, but now my view is beginnning to change. He was sucked into the Republican machine, and now he's just another slimy liar.

If we are going to be honest, Immigration issue can only be accomplished with democrats and Barack Obama if he win the Presidence. I doubt Mccain will do any thig about tis subject because he will always fear his Republican constituences. Therefore, the ad is wrong and the spanish voters are not childrean and they know who is for them.

This is ridiculous and outrageous. At some point the government has to step in and stop these ads from being run because they are blatant lies and smear tactics that republicans always do when they feel they can't win an election on the issues! If you see this ad on your local station, call them up and tell them to pull it. Telling lies to the American people is not how someone should go about getting elected into office.

Lee Atwater-Karl Rove- Steve Schmidt, each a protege of his predecessor. They learned from the ultimate smear meister, Atwater. Remeber him from the first Bush and Reagan campaigns? NOw they are with the McCain campaign.
No how, no way, no McCain. Good and decent AMericans will no longer stand for this.

Shame Shame McShame. What won't he do or say to win. I thinks it is revolting that this "man" see this as a game. I have yet to see any proof that he is putting my country first.

I don't get it. I simply do not understand why half of this country is willing to vote for someone who

    1) voted with Bush 91% of the time
    2) has 134 lobbiests in his campaign yet promises to tell them no
    3) has worked in Washington for 26 years yet says he will "shake things up
    4) has lied, and been proven to be a liar with several of his comments
    5) complained about experience then chooses a mate with zero experience
    6) Shall I go on?

I don't get it America. I simply do not understand why you are voting for this guy. Do you even know?

Obama needs just to plainly set the facts straight. Again, the McCain and Karl Rowe strategy is still alive and doing well. Most of my Hispanic friends are aware and can read and comprehend the facts versus fictional verbal epithets.

Why don't you air this kind of bold face lying by McCain. Someone should be everyday fact checking every ad every statement McCain camp makes and reporting it, Or has the energy industry threatened to pull advertisments if you didn't let McCain/Palin ride to the the White
House. Only Cambell Brown has done her job and apparently McCains threats worked. It is okay Campbell Tim Russert is looking down and very proud of you only.

    CNN please post my comments

I just have to say that I am sickened and saddened by all the blatant lies that the McCain camp has been propagating about Obama. Lies that have been routinely discounted by fact checkers but yet continue to be spread by the MEDIA as if it were the TRUTH.

I come to CNN everyday and it makes me upset to see bold headlines of McCain airing yet another negative ad. It appears that CNN is only too willing to air such news.

Where is the outrage? What about publishing the truth and giving equal space to news that McCain IS LYING. Have your fact chekers investigate this and put in similar big headlines, the TRUTH.

Sometimes, I feel like CNN has their own agenda. I feel like you are not as liberal as many people think. I feel like subtly, you are trying to make Obama look bad and ultimately not win the presidency.

Obama is a good man. We are blessed to have someone like this come out in our lifetime. Speak the truth CNN. Speak the truth.

Thank you CNN, for letting the rest of us living in battleground states know what a lying snake McCain has become. I've seen the other dishonest ads-the "lipstick on a pig" ad and the "sex-ed" ad, but this one takes the cake!
If he's running a campaign that is more dishonest than the Bush/Cheney campaign, what can we expect if he's elected president?

Let's face neither candidate is in favor of giving the illegals a free walk. NOR SHOULD THEY. If you are Spanish American and legalized to vote you have to decide which candidate will do his best in supporting you in a legal fair manner. Just to walk across the border is not the legal way. There has to penalties for someone so willing to break the law. Do it legal Mexican immigrants and America will get behind you. We went through one period of The Cuban immigration where Castro opened the flood gates to his pens and sent them to the U.S so he could be rid of his problem. If Mexico does the same then naturally they are going to reach bias and force if necessary to keep them out. I pick JOHN McCAIN to be the most fair and honest man to handle this job.

Simple solution to immigration is make the Peso and Dollar equal in value, much like the Dollar and the Canadian Dollar. Again the status quo has an interest in prolonging the immigration dilema for personal gain.

McBush seem to have very convenient memory loss doesn't he? He is grasping at anything he can find to lie about Obama with and it's pathetic! They voted exactly the same on the immigration issue and yet, he blames Obama and the dems for his partys failed policy on immigration! His handlers really need to watch what comes out of his mouth a little better, as he's been caught in a lot of lies this week. He says the dems are desperate? He needs to look in the mirror! Get your facts straight John before you open your mouth and stupidity comes out again! The country needs to wake up to the fact that McBush IS NOT HONEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He will say or do ANYTHING to win this election. True or not makes no difference. Typical republican tactics that I thought the country was smart enough

The Media is finally calling the McCain ads what they are, lies calculated to play on the basest emotions of the American Voters. The sad truth is that there are many American Voters that don’t care if they are lies or not.

The Republican Base certainly doesn’t care. They revel in the Lies. After all its not about the future of our Country it is about winning. Certainly the fact that McCain “approves” of this ad strategy tells us something about his ethical and moral code. He admitted his 2000 Campaign was about ambition not serving the Country and he is proving this Campaign is all about winning. Country first, what a joke.

What disappoints me is that many American Voters are either gullible enough to believe these lies or they don’t care about the future of this Country. This baffles me since they are voting for more of the same. Perhaps they want what they know because they are afraid of change. It appears the younger voters are willing to commit to change and to make the sacrifices necessary to
Make the changes we need. The question is, are there enough of them to effect this election?

This is the Election that will not only determine that fate of the U.S.A., it could very well determine the fate of the World. Perhaps we have wandered so far away from a Government for the People and by the People that we are scared of the challenge. Be careful who you vote for, committing Electoral Suicide is one way to die with a whimper.

If John and Sarah have to lie to the american people to win an election, how could they ever be taken seriousy when talking to other governments. Thats how Hitler's cronies were told to negociate. Just give the Checklosviakans what they want. We don't intend on keeping our word anyway!
