McCain ad slams Obama, Senate Democrats on immigration

New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.
New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.

(CNN) –
John McCain’s campaign is running a Spanish language ad in battleground states that blames Barack Obama and Senate Democrats for the failure of attempts to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws - even though the Republican nominee and his Democratic counterpart cast identical votes in the key Senate showdowns on that issue last year

“Obama and his congressional allies say they are on the side of immigrants. But are they?” asks the announcer in the 30-second spot, “Which Side Are They On?”

“The press reports that their efforts were 'poison pills' that made immigration reform fail,” he continues. “The result: No guest worker program. No path to citizenship. No secure borders. No reform. Is that being on our side? Obama and his Congressional allies ready to block immigration reform, but not ready to lead.”

But Obama and McCain cast identical votes in the major congressional showdowns on the issue last year. Both men cast votes in favor of an unsuccessful early June effort to end a filibuster. Later that month, they voted again to end debate on the issue – but again failed to shut down the filibuster effort, led for the most part by Republican senators.

The ad will air in Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada, all crucial fall states with significant Hispanic voting populations.

John McCain lost in 2000 because of the Bush campaign lies.
Evidently, he is trying the same logic against Obama. No more
"Straight Talk" McCain, enter "Anything to Win" John. What a shame and what a pity!!! The same goes for his running mate. Hopefully,
voters will not take their twisted rhetoric as truth.

Opportunistic, manipulative, predatory behavior - from someone who promised to run an honorable campaign. McCain needs to stop. He is doing this country a disservice.

I used to respect John McCain but it seems that he has embraced lying to win. Is this what we really need in the white house? Just like the sex education commercial, which was intended to show kids how to avoid sexual predators, this is all bs...

Every time I hear something from McCain or Palin it turns out to be a lie. People need to stand up and tell McCain to stop telling lies!!!

Where are those moral values the republicans claim to have?

Hey, CNN report about caging in FL!!! I am now being Caged by the McCain campaign and many others are as well. The local NPR just had a call in special about it. It is happening in OH and other battleground states. Why is this not against the law. It is definitely immoral.

If you are not familiar with Caging, search Wykapedia for Caging or Cage list. It is heartbreaking to see what these republicans will do to win elections.

Republicans are scum of the earth.

This is outrageous, this campain is not about Barack Obama but about American people. How could Mccain be lying overtly like this? How could the Media keep trying to be fair and Balance even when someone is lying? This Campain is not Barack against Mccain, it should Mccain agains the Media on his lies. Hopefully American people won't be dull by this flattery.

McSame is a lying manipulitive man who encourages immagration but not equal pay. It is a continuation of Bushes plan to build up the military with minorities because there is no draft and they need more soilders to send into their many wars. Immigants are not as stupid as the Republicans think they are. Obama will fight for their rights not uskeep them poor so they will have too go to war. Ask your brothers and sisters in Arizona-how are they doing in McCain's own state?

  20. GOBAMA!!

WOW...more low blows from the McCain camp. What's funny is Cubans here in Florida are voting for Obama even after voting republican since the Kennedy administration. That should say something about McCain. Let's see who do I want as president? Antique man with high cholesterol and previous history of cancerous melanomas (you can say all you want that they've been removed...the damage is already done to his skin) who can't use a computer in the age of computers. He's voted with Bush 90% of the time. He constantly contradicts himself and wants WAR WAR WAR. So what, he's a war hero...that isn't enough for me. Or Obama, a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard, an elegant speaker and diplomat who is in good shape, knows how to use a computer, and is loved by the rest of the world.

Senator McCain, as an independent, I have always admired your service and straight-talk fashion before this election cycle. What happened? You got my vote in 2000. I am honestly not sure whether I can cast my vote for you and Governor Palin at this juncture. Your campaign kept putting out these ads that distort your opponents' stands (at least according to other independent sites including Factcheck.org and Politifact.com). In my opinion, one of your straight-talk train has a wobbly wheel. I think you and your campaign need to get together and ask yourself what kind of campaign you are running. I am really concerned about your message. I don't want to cast my vote to somebody who would do anything to get elected. To me, that's not helping people like us Ohioans. That's just playing POLITICS.

One thing that Senator Obama is right is that this election is about issues. Please set aside all these nonsense and focus on how you guys can bring this great nation back on track. Because that is the way how we independents cast our votes.

    Thanks for listening.
