McCain ad slams Obama, Senate Democrats on immigration

New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.
New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.

(CNN) –
John McCain’s campaign is running a Spanish language ad in battleground states that blames Barack Obama and Senate Democrats for the failure of attempts to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws - even though the Republican nominee and his Democratic counterpart cast identical votes in the key Senate showdowns on that issue last year

“Obama and his congressional allies say they are on the side of immigrants. But are they?” asks the announcer in the 30-second spot, “Which Side Are They On?”

“The press reports that their efforts were 'poison pills' that made immigration reform fail,” he continues. “The result: No guest worker program. No path to citizenship. No secure borders. No reform. Is that being on our side? Obama and his Congressional allies ready to block immigration reform, but not ready to lead.”

But Obama and McCain cast identical votes in the major congressional showdowns on the issue last year. Both men cast votes in favor of an unsuccessful early June effort to end a filibuster. Later that month, they voted again to end debate on the issue – but again failed to shut down the filibuster effort, led for the most part by Republican senators.

The ad will air in Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada, all crucial fall states with significant Hispanic voting populations.

Sen. McCain has mastered the art of double talk! While he publicly states he would like to eliminate the negativity that pervades our political process, he allows his campaign to continue producing ads that distort the truth. If he is truly serious, he can put an end to it by simplying saying no mas! The problem is some Republicans believe the only way they can win is to confuse the American people on the issues by resorting to negative ads. (Please note I said some not all Republicans.)

But the real question is when are we the American people going to say enough is enough. Until we stop allowing this kind of behavior, we will never see a change from Democrats, Republicans, and other politicalparties. We have to rise up and say stop it!

    Obama/Biden in 2008!

I can believe such bold lies still work. I'm shaking my head in disbelief, as I imagine the Obama campaign is. McCain's campaign sets new lows on a daily basis.

I guess McCain has decided that since halfway educated white voters are seeing through his lying ads (FactCheck is a wonderful thing, but since McCain doesn't USE the Internet, he probably doesn't even know that every ad he has run in the past month has been debunked, including this one) he'll go after the Hispanics. I doubt that they will believe his sudden interest in their welfare either.

GOP! you don't even get the grammar right out of your commercial, hire people that know Spanish:
Pero No listos para Gobernar, is wrong, is common talk, in written terms you should say Pero no "estan" listos para gobernar.
You worry to much about Obama, instead on focusing on the issues, specially "EDUCATION".
And now you wonder why they call you stupid? LOL

    GO OBAMA!

So, Obama has "no record" until it becomes convenient to admit it and then, misrepresent it? Awesome.

Barack Obama does have a record. A record of having sponsored, co-sponsored, written or co-written 800 pieces of legislation over the course of a 12 year career in public office.

Obama's record and stance on immigration favors border security, a bridge to citizenship and reform.

    More BS from McCain.

so apparently McCain's campaign strategy is to tell lie after lie in the hopes that many americans will believe them. the sad part is that his strategy will probably work to a certain extent.

This is news I bet even for the "Clinton News Network"

Palin troopergate timeline…and her lack of judgement.

Sarah "Follow Americans Lend me Your Ear-marks" Palin

Long before this became an issue for Sarah…in 2005 she should have seen this was not a fight she should take on….But as she gained more and more power she took it unpon herself to do things she will regret.

Sarah where is your "Judgement"…this is going to bite her…she was told by members of her own party how to handle this issue and she of course wouldn't listen. Must of us would have listened and moved on with our lives after these warnings:

Judge Suddock (A republican) was disturbed by the alleged attacks by Palin and her family members on Wooten's behavior and character. "Disparaging will not be tolerated—it is a form of child abuse," the judge told a settlement hearing in October 2005.

    Did she listen…NO

In the letter, July 14th, 2008, written before Sen. John McCain picked the Alaska governor as his running mate, former U.S. Attorney Wevley Shea (A republican) warned Gov. Palin that “the situation is now grave” and recommended that she and her husband, Todd Palin, apologize for “overreaching or perceived overreaching” for using her position to try to get Trooper Mike Wooten fired from the force.

    Did she listen…No

July 18th 2008…Palin says. in a statement…"To allege that I, or any member of my family, requested, received or released confidential personnel information on an Alaska State Trooper, or directed disciplinary action be taken against any employee of the Department of Public Safety, is, quite simply, outrageous,"

“Hold me accountable,” she challenge her critics.

    she denied orchestrating any calls.

    Then on August 13th 2008…

In a recorded conversation, Bailey (a Palin Staffer) is heard saying: “Todd and Sarah are scratching their heads, why on earth hasn't, why is this guy still representing the department? He's a horrible recruiting tool. … You know, I mean from their perspective, everyone's protecting him.”

Sarah comes out that day to tell us and says "I do now have to tell Alaskans that such pressure could have been perceived to exist although I have only now become aware of it," After 26 known call and untold e-mails…she still tries to cover up…instead of apologizing she goes on to say.

"Many of these inquiries were completely appropriate. However, the serial nature of the contacts could be perceived as some kind of pressure, presumably at my direction,"

Gov. Palin pledged the full cooperation of herself and her staff

After all this the cat is out of the bag…

Bailey's lawyer Greg Grebe had kept Bailey from meeting Branchflower who was hired by the Republican legislature to "investigate the circumstances and events surrounding the termination of former Public Safety Commissioner Monegan"

Now the evil liberals are out to get Sarah…

When the truth of the matter is

Sarah is out to get Sarah and so far she is doing a pretty good job.

    She has lost my vote.

For 8 years, the GOP have controlled the government and had the opportunity to make some meaningful changes to immigration laws. What did they do – sat on their hands!!

I am dismayed that someone who was so dedicated to his country and endured such cruelty doesn't have the integrity to be honest. So far, McCain's ads have been nothing but lies. In addition, he has demonstrated that he has poor judgment by choosing Palin as his running mate. These actions do not support his claims to love his country. They are the actions of a desperate man who will do anything to gain power.

It is time for the public to see the facts. That means it is incumbent upon the press to report them. And when McCain and Palin are exposed for the frauds they are, it is important that the public congratulate the press for finally doing its job. I am tired of hearing the right call the press supporters of the liberal left wing when they report the truth.

The Republicans can't handle the truth! Let's hope that there is an intelligent group of voters out there who won't fall for the hype!!
Stick with the issues McCain. Oh, I forgot. If you stick to the issues, you have no campaign. You only have more of the last 8 years.

I expect some lying in a presidential election, but this is ridiculous. Has a single McCain ad not been determined to be a lie over the last two weeks?

Factcheck.org is going crazy with McCain comments.

Look, McCain and Obama voted the same on this issue, so why is it that McCain can so blatantly lie in an ad without the entire media corps going after him? Do we really want a president who will flat-out lie like this to the American people. PLEASE, MY FELLOW AMERICANS, WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How and why is CNN letting the McCain camp get away with these ad's?

You are a respected news organisation, I am English lving in Canada and I just cannot believe that you let this all flow as if it is normal.

The BBC and ITV would be all over this and not allowing the McCain campaign lie like this.

I know, I know you won't publish this comment – but I just wanted your moderator to read it at least.

This is the most ridiculous claim yet. I am a very well informed voter and know for a fact the Republican Party is 100% against immigrants.
McCain has been trying to avoid any discussion about immigration on all the Spanish interviews I've seen. He might be Pro-Immigration but he cant be against the blood sucking republicans. Palin says she is fought the "Good Ol' Boys" but John McCain has adopted all their believes.

Obama and the democratic party should ought to be ashamed of themselves. They have been tearing apart families of immigrant workers. They have been conducting raids on unsespecting families and when the children go home from school their parents aren't there because they have been arrested and sent back to Mexico. Shame on you, shame on the American people who can't and won't get along with their neighbors. In the Bible it states that we are supposed to love our neighbors. We are supposed to feed them when they are hungry, give them something to drink when they are thirsty, clothe them when they are naked. You people are not doing what is expected of you and God will lay harsher punishments on you lest you should turn from your evil ways and turn to help your neighbors. Mexico is our neighbor and when I was growing up I remember going there every week. You want others to like the United States. But how can other countries like us when they see how we treat our brothers the Mexicans. Dems and Obama and Biden shame on you...............

McCain is shooting himself in the foot with these negative, spurious ads. They prove that he IS an old-guard, sling-mud-and-innuendo politco. I do want change. And, Senator McCain, you lost my vote with the yesteryear ads you're running.
