McCain ad slams Obama, Senate Democrats on immigration

New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.
New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.

(CNN) –
John McCain’s campaign is running a Spanish language ad in battleground states that blames Barack Obama and Senate Democrats for the failure of attempts to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws - even though the Republican nominee and his Democratic counterpart cast identical votes in the key Senate showdowns on that issue last year

“Obama and his congressional allies say they are on the side of immigrants. But are they?” asks the announcer in the 30-second spot, “Which Side Are They On?”

“The press reports that their efforts were 'poison pills' that made immigration reform fail,” he continues. “The result: No guest worker program. No path to citizenship. No secure borders. No reform. Is that being on our side? Obama and his Congressional allies ready to block immigration reform, but not ready to lead.”

But Obama and McCain cast identical votes in the major congressional showdowns on the issue last year. Both men cast votes in favor of an unsuccessful early June effort to end a filibuster. Later that month, they voted again to end debate on the issue – but again failed to shut down the filibuster effort, led for the most part by Republican senators.

The ad will air in Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada, all crucial fall states with significant Hispanic voting populations.

  3. No Hillary = No Obama

It's more and more evident that Obama doesn't know what he is doing or talking about. He got caught up in his own hoopla, thought he could get rid of Hillary because he was invincible and now is losing in the polls. He has placed the historic possibility of a Black becoming President in jeporady because he couldn't see past his own ego. And this guy wants to be President? Poor judgment, poor leadership & decision making, shortsighted and full of himself.

R U Kidding? Does McCain really want to go there? Maybe he should be checked for dementia.

I am sure Ms. Palin will have some incredibly insightful and sensitive things to say about immigration...*eyeroll*

    McPalin...the joke of America.

So says the anti-immigrant party... sorry Mr. McCain but the GOP is so anti-immigrant that your Spanish language ad won't make much of a difference.

I say "anti-immigrant" vs. "anti-illegal immigrant" because so much of the anti-illegal immigrant movement makes very little distinction between illegal vs. legal. You don't speak english really well, they toss you into the illegal immigrant grouping. You happen to be from south of the border, they suspect you of being an illegal. Etc... etc...

As a Latina, McCain ad is misleading. McCain said he will not support his own immirgration bill to provide amnesty. If McCain is a maverick, then why won't he vote on his bill. Instead he wants to block the borders which he said earlier he disagreed with. Once again McCain caved to the religious right and the conserverative party. This is not maverick, but a sidekick.

McCain keeps lying! He has no character. He's no longer any kind of hero to me. His character account is now overdrawn.
    Please retire, Mr. McCain.

Are we supposed to be suprised about another misleading ad? Considering all the lies, misleading ads, pandering and manipulating the emotions of people, hardly anything would surprise me coming from the McCain campaign.

What does suprises me is that people don't take the time to find out the facts. What's even more suprising is that some people are willing to ignore fact to satisfy a particular emotion, feeling or prejudice.

This is patently absurd. Immigration reform died because Sarah Palin Republicans started screaming 'No Amnesty!" on every media outlet they could find and the Bush Administration backed off. McCain said at the GOP debate in January that he wouldn't vote for his own immigration bill. Does this man stand for anything?

It appears that John McCain has sold his soul, and his integrity, in an all-out attempt to win the election at any cost. I used to respect the man – no more. Lies, lies and more lies. McCain is unfit to be our next President.

Its strange how a VP should out of the blue dominate Mccain the way it is now,it will b very difficult for mccain to get back his position as the head of the republic ticket,
So I think maccain has reach his peak so after this the polls can only go down for mccain.

  24. No McCain, Please

Wnen is McCain going to start talking about what the Republicans are going to do about the mess we are in and stop talking about Obama. Really, John Boy, do you even have an original thought? We know you don't like Obama, already, now what are you going to do for the country? Remember, 'Country First', or is that another one of your useless slogans?

This is the kind of behavior the electorate should reward.

We can then complain about a white house full of spin.
