McCain ad slams Obama, Senate Democrats on immigration

New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.
New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.

(CNN) –
John McCain’s campaign is running a Spanish language ad in battleground states that blames Barack Obama and Senate Democrats for the failure of attempts to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws - even though the Republican nominee and his Democratic counterpart cast identical votes in the key Senate showdowns on that issue last year

“Obama and his congressional allies say they are on the side of immigrants. But are they?” asks the announcer in the 30-second spot, “Which Side Are They On?”

“The press reports that their efforts were 'poison pills' that made immigration reform fail,” he continues. “The result: No guest worker program. No path to citizenship. No secure borders. No reform. Is that being on our side? Obama and his Congressional allies ready to block immigration reform, but not ready to lead.”

But Obama and McCain cast identical votes in the major congressional showdowns on the issue last year. Both men cast votes in favor of an unsuccessful early June effort to end a filibuster. Later that month, they voted again to end debate on the issue – but again failed to shut down the filibuster effort, led for the most part by Republican senators.

The ad will air in Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada, all crucial fall states with significant Hispanic voting populations.

I feel like my head is going to explode. Most of McCain's commercials have been blatant lies. Why is he getting away with this?

Shame on you John McCain. Even though I have been a supporter of Senator Obama since January of this year, I always respected you as a decent human being. But as Jeffrey Toobin and Dana Milbank said last night on CNN, your cmapaign tactics are those of a pathalogical liar. You are not a great American sir. Despite your service and sacrafice during your military career, the John McCain of those days no longer exists. The country is worse off for it. Shame on you!!

McCain's campaign is deliberately running false ads because millions of people see them and believe them. Only a few thousand know the truth or see the corrections. The numbers work in favor of deceptive negative ads.

McCain's campaign of lies is becoming a house of cards. I wonder how long the people will let it stand?

When will the MSM start vetting these ads? We have truth in advertising for products. Isn't it time for the same with candidates? Are the major networks and radio stations so desperate for cash that they turn a blind eye to this? What kind of service does this provide to the viewers?
The lies, the distortions, the spinning-it's just obscene.

Barack needs Richardson to participate in a follow up ad which trashes this bit of propaganda. McCain has no shame. Nothing this man does would surprise me. If he could abandon a disabled wife for Barbie, what else could he be capable offÉ

The media's unwillingness to brand McCain a liar, to do their job, makes them an accomplance in this crime against our country.

When are our elected officials going to start "being for" the American citizen instead of ones who come here illegally, or the big corporations. IT IS ABOUT TIME THEY WORRY ABOUT THE LEGAL VOTERS IN THIS COUNTRY!

It does not matter who gets elected, because of the special interests and big corporate America, we as citizens are all screwed.

This ad a a LIE. It was the REPUBLICANS THAT KILLED THE IMMIGRATION BILL.

Anyone remember REPUBLICAN Jeff Sessions SMIRK when he stood before the cameras and SAID THE BILL IS DEAD ?

Question, Why dose McCain need to Lie? Can someone that approves a Lying commercial be TRUSTED ?

Surprise. They are doing some major stretching of the truth again. Smoke & mirrors. I am glad at least Charlie Gibson during his interview with Palin pointed out their non-truths and exaggerations as he was asking the question. She didn't sound so confident and snide in her answers with the truth in her face.

Same kudos with BW on the View. McCain saying yesterday Palin has not accepted earmarks, tried to get in the whole plane and cook exaggeration, would have said she said 'no thanks' to the bridge if he had the chance... I wish something more could be done for lies and misconceptions to not be allowed on the air so easily, because people really do believe this stuff. Lemmings at my work place who wouldn't be people to take the time to look into the truth quote these commercials when giving their reasons for supporting McCain.

It's pathetic. I thought to start we had two good choices to vote for in this election. McCain has turned into a sell out to the right, a dishonorable campaigner, and a power hungry politician who is not interested in America's real problems anymore.

It doesn't matter what's actually true anymore. McCain/Palin will just lie lie and lie some more to fool people into voting for them. They're like thumbing their noses at the rest of us and saying "So yeah, we're lying, Whatcha gonna do about it?"

People who catch these adds full of lies may never catch the follow up exposing them. What McCain/Palin is doing is very low, very dirty, and very sick. They should be disqualified for grossly misleading voters like this.
