Cindy McCain: Tough interviewers 'picked our bones clean'

Cindy McCain criticized media coverage of the campaign.
Cindy McCain criticized media coverage of the campaign.

(CNN) –Cindy McCain, wife of Republican presidential nominee John McCain, criticized the media at a weekend fundraiser, telling supporters that the hosts of The View “picked our bones clean.”

"In spite of what you see …in the newspapers, and on shows like The View - I don't know if any of you saw The View yesterday, they picked our bones clean - in spite of what you see, that's not what the American people are saying and what they are believing," said McCain, in a recording obtained by ABC News. "They are now seeing a clear difference with these candidates, and they are seeing who is going to make the best president, and that's why we're pulling ahead."

John McCain had a tough exchange with the hosts of The View during a recent appearance, during which he was pressed on the credentials of running mate Sarah Palin, claims in his campaign ads that co-host Joy Behar called “lies,” and how many houses he and his wife own.

How pathetic. Barbara Walters "grilling" was nothing more than her trying to sound relevant during this election year. Her focus was on being "tough" not "meaningful." How sad that a woman who once covered the issues is now nothing more than another media member trying to make a story out of nothing. If Barbara that it relevant to ask of the VP credentials, why has she NOT done the same of the PRES credentials of Obama. Again, what a waste.

I am so proud of the women on The View for putting an end to the McCain distortions and forcing him to address issues and take responsibility for the statements made by his campaign. Now he's had to face the voters and say "I stand behind those ads" even though the factual lies and slimy distortions in them have been exposed. Nobody can now believe that McCain's a good guy with sleazy Rovian handlers.

I am sure that The View will leave off the kid gloves when they interview Obama, too. But Obama's not in as vulnerable a position because his campaign has been relatively truthful. We are starting to see tougher talk from Obama now, but it's not below-the-belt stuff. The quote attributed to Lincoln applies: "If you don't stop lying about me, I'm going to have to start telling the truth about you."

I saw the show.... she was defensive from the getgo... why can't she answer a simple question like HOW MANY HOMES DO YOU OWN?

    What a stupid STUPID woman!

Were you that offended when John gave you some straight talk, when you touched his hair. LOL

Now he has his wife, the rich and controlled, acting like a puppet.

You can't reject the fruit. You and Jonh planted the seed - the original lie.

Now you are upset the voters are smart. LOL

    Obama Biden has won big

you are an old championship team, needing to rebuild,

The final Script is comming into manifestion, Now

I enjoyed Cindy's speech at the RNC, but this is another campaign blunder. Dealing the heat out like this, and not being able to take it back is the sign of some immaturity.

I am sorry, but McCain's presidency is lending my eyes to that of a 'whiner' and a 'complainer'. What happens if others criticize McCain as president? Will they wind up in a federal prison off the radar?

  6. Fools for Obama

No one gets nasty with Obama- but Charlie Gibson was hateful with Sarah... asking her questions with no answers... The Bush Doctrine- ALL BAD THINGS HAVE BECOME THE BUSH DOCTRINE- so she was astute to ask, "in what respect, Charlie?"

First you MUST agree on a definition of something before you can intelligently address it. Otherwise it is just rhetoric.

Only Obama gets praise for empty, vague, rhetoric.... anyone else gets grilled on it and pushed for REAL answers.

Obama flies on oratory and nothing else and everyone exclaims: How wonderful.

They were right to pick your bones. The ads the View hostesses were referring to were such bold face lies, that McCain should be ashamed. OK he's a hero but he's also a liar. He also has such a temper! Had they pressed him a bit more he would have exploded. You could see it coming. I don't think that he has a calm enough temperament to be the ultimate decision maker for the country. And God help his VP if she were the one left in charge. She'd probably have to consult her map to see where any other country is in the world. She listed Ireland as one of the countries she's visited when her plane only stopped there to re-fuel. Another liar!

Someone should tell "Barbie McCain" that if her husband can dish it out, he should be able to take the same in return.

Facts are that I am disgusted with the way that campaign managers for both candidates have been running this mud slinging election, but I will still vote for Obama over another "Bush clone".

What's wrong Cindy can't stand anyone trying to get to the truth. However, how would you know what truth is. You stole another woman's husband and now even Karl Rove is calling all of you liars.

While I agree that the View crew was over the line, I think the hosts were expressing a frustration that we all feel. The frustration that the McCain strategy is to hide Palin from the American media until she has had time to memorize the campaign montra.

It is a real shame our politics have sunken to hiding candidates and whining about media questions.

Ask Cindy Why is it the McCain and Palin are stating they are trying to appeal to the Hockey mom's, shouldn't they be trying to appeal to all Americans, You never here them say we are trying to reach African americans, Asians, hispanic or any other minority group. The question is if you are seeking the office of President of the United States should you be trying to appeal to the all the people of the United Sates and not one segment.

Just and old botoxed to the bone women with a poor education that leave her blinded to any self examination.

The absence of any logical examination of her husbands dammed campagins lies and the consequesnces of same on her mental status shows a lack of clarity in her thought pattern and a the vivid sense of her superority complex.

Thwe View is just the beginning of the ending of the Mc Cain- Palin Error.

    Obama -Biden 09 for sure!

I'm surprised that Cindy didn't call The View hosts a bunch of SEXISTS.

The truth is...McCain has been lying. It's a shame that it takes a show like The View to point it out.

I used to respect John McCain. Not anymore.

    Obama / Biden 08!

Kudos to "The View" for asking questions we all need answering. This is what happens when McCain campaign keep their puppet, Palin, away from the media.
And Cindy M. reminds me a tad of Lady Macbeth, and that's not a compliment.

Oh I simply love some of these posted comments. Do you people REALLY expect us to believe the bull the "innocent" and "all truthful" Democrats are trying to say? NOT! But all is fair in love and war so let the liberals have their fun today and the conservatives can return the favor tomorrow. But I do seem to recall hearing some garbage from Barack Obama way back when about bringing the nation together.....FAT CHANCE! People will pick sides and we'll be divided more than ever no matter who wins. Politics is great isn't it.....oh I forgot.....it's only a game so pick your side and ride it out! Too bad we never get to the serious issues that benefit all of us.

Oh spare me!!! How come we don't hear more about how the Dr. that gave Cindy McCain all of those prescriptions (and his prescription pad) got his license taken away and has never practiced ever since and also the fact that the charity she was stealing from had to close down!!!!! She's about as honest as her husband and his band of liars!!!!! I really don't think the American people are being as fooled by these people (including Palin) as the press would have us believe!

  18. Kennedy Democrat - No Obama

The only change Obama will bring is what we will have left in our pockets.

"He with the most money" wins politics is ANYTHING, but new. ANYTHING, but reform.

It wasn't supposed to be about money. Obama vowed to stand by campaign finance reform & look at him now - every other story is about how much money he has raised.

Bet Letterman & SNL aren't questioning him like Barbara Walters questioned McCain. By the way, Ms. Walters once a question has been asked & answered there is no need to ask AGAIN just because YOU don't like or agree with the answer. What happened to her journalism credentials?! They certainly wouldn't grill Obama like that - even though he claims to be all about the ISSUES.

Sick!!! No good candidates....just more politicians....

Who does Cindy McCain think she is fooling? Boy John must be really running scared when he had to put Cindy in the Media as well as Sarah to promote his cause!! If that doesn't tell the Republicans they are in trouble they are stone deaf! Cindy won't change my mind one iota!

Poor Cindy with all her millions and the heritage her daddy left her, she still can't get her husband elected on Money Alone! Suprise! Not.
Cindy showed her true colors with when the reporter asked her if comments about her millions annoyed her, her agitated response confirming her right to her Heritage told me all I needed to know!
They are THE ELITE and their lack of concern for their Nation and Americans couldn't make it any clearer!

Despite the fact that we know nothing but the stump speech Palin gave at the RNC which she xeroxes left and right, The McCain camp hiding her from real dialogue, and all real interaction with her so far being lackluster, we have people blindly saying she 'represents them' with stars in their eyes......

....meanwhile people in some of the swing states who know Barack Obama's middle name just so they can cite it as why they won't vote for him, and while we know more about Obama than almost anyone can tell me about McCain (what's his middle name?), they are still saying gee, they just haven't gotten to know Obama yet.......

Cindy McCain, it's time the media stands up and says this is what we do. And it's fair, and it's objective, and it's called accountability. This is not the John McCain from 2000, this is someone who wants to win at all costs, even if it costs us all another 4 years of the old guard that's been wasting the last 8.

  21. Surprised

I am so surprised that Evangelicals are backing a ticket that has lied about everything. McCain even lied in the FACES of the View hosts, saying that Palin has never taken any earmarks as governor. He lied right IN THEIR FACES!

They have lied so much that I cannot trust what they're saying anymore and I don't believe God is with them. Too much deception there.

McCain is doing exactly the same thing that Bush did in both of his runs for the White House. If we're not happy with Bush, then why are some voting for this type of government again? BAD IDEA- McCain/Palin will destroy this country.
