Palin tweaks stump speech for different audiences

Palin recently returned to the campaign trail after a visit back to Alaska.
Palin recently returned to the campaign trail after a visit back to Alaska.

CARSON CITY, Nevada (CNN) - Sarah Palin's reputation for rarely deviating from a scripted stump speech as she travels from city to city is not entirely accurate.

She’s open to changing a few lines here and there - depending on the audience.

Consider her speech Saturday in Nevada, site of the proposed Yucca Mountain Repository, a controversial project that would store radioactive waste in Nevadans’ backyard. At nearly every campaign stop over the last two weeks, Palin has touted McCain’s plan to expand nuclear energy, including storage and reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel.

“In a McCain-Palin administration, we’re going to expand nuclear energy, expand our use of alternative fuels, and drill now to make this nation energy independent,” she said to cheers last week in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

But in Carson City, where the Yucca issue hits closer to home, that remark about expanding nuclear energy disappeared.

Palin also gave a pair of modified stump speeches during her recent Welcome Home tour through Alaska that failed to mention the notorious Gravina Island Bridge, subject of her usual applause line on the campaign trail that “I told the Congress ‘thanks but no thanks’ for that Bridge to Nowhere."

The Alaska governor routinely cites her opposition to the bridge on the trail to reinforce her reformer reputation, but fact-check groups and the Obama campaign have noted out that Palin supported building the bridge before she came out against it.

Earlier: Palin stays firm on Bridge to Nowhere claim; Obama camp calls bridge claim a 'lie'

At rallies last week in Fairbanks and Anchorage, where Palin's original position in favor of the bridge is well-known, her “thanks but no thanks” was left behind in the Lower 48.

  1. Lies

OK, she got selected two weeks ago and we already know about at least 5 lies she and McCain have told about her:

    1-Bridge to no where lie
    2- Went to Iraq lie
    3-Went to Ireland lie
    4-Sold plane on Ebay lie
5-Being a champion of no earmarks lie

Palin a "uniter"? Yeah. Sure.... She may be uniting the incredibly stupid. The rest of us are united in hoping she gets a bus ticket back to Alaska as soon as possible. I don't want a Barbie Doll for my VP. I want someone with some brains. Reading a speech over and over again just proves one thing. She can read. She didn't even know what the Bush Doctrine was, when she was interviewed the other night (attack a country who is threatening you before they attack you). I never thought I'd wish for the days of Dan Quayle.

You cannot please all the people. The liberals want to cry over the gas prices but do not want no drilling in their state and no refiniries. You wonder why most of america has no use for the liberal states. Nobody would really want a refinery or drilling in their state if they could but America needs them for the betterment of this country. God bless the South : Country over state. What the South should do is reward its citizens with lower gas prices and raise the prices for these liberal states. Let them pay rtheir fair share for going against Americas well being.

Palin didn't tweak anything. She just deleted the lies out of her Alaskan speech, because she couldn't play that game on her Alaskan audience. Then, she reinserted the lies on Saturday for the benefit of the lower 48 states.

  7. OBAMA GET'S IT!

SOUNDS VERY CONNIVING AND UNTRUSTWORTHY! NO ONE DISAGREES SHE IS VERY GOOD POLITICIAN, BUT THE PROBLEM IS SHE IS ALL OVER THE PLACE LYING AND GETTING AWAY WITH IT BECAUSE JUST LIKE McCAIN SHE TELL PEOPLE ONLY WHAT THEY WANT TO HEAR. THIS WOMAN IS COMPLETELY UNKNOWN EXCEPT WHAT IS BEING FOUND OUT ABOUT HER ALL OF WHICH IS NOT GOOD. NOW YOU CAN BELIEVE ALL THE MAJOR MEDIA SORCES & FACTCHECK.ORG OR YOU CAN BELIEVE McCAIN AND REPUBLICAN PUDDENTS.

JUST ASK YOURSELF BASED ON THE INFORMATION GIVEN TO YOU AND YOUR RESEARCH ON HER WHY WOULD YOU CAST YOUR RESPONIBLE VOTE FOR HER GIVEN THE AMOUNT OF TIME LEFT TO VET HER, BASED ON THE SITUATION OUR NATION IS IN.

NOW TRUE McCAIN WOULD HAVE YOU TO BELIEVE THAT SHE IS BEING MISREPRESENTED BY EVERYONE BUT THOSE THAT WOULD BENEFIT IN SOME WAY. GO TO MSNBC AND CHECK OUT THE REPORTS THEY HAVE, THEY ARE REPORTING MORE THAN CNN GO TO FACTCHECK.ORG THEN CAST YOUR VOTE FOR HER IF YOU ARE STILL TRUST SHE IS THE ONE OUR NATION NEEDS, BUT I THINK AS AN INDEPENDENT VOTER THE BIGGEST PROBLEM I HAVE WITH ALL THOSE THAT ARE SUPPORTING HER IS THAT I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS BASED ON LOGIC, BUT THAT YOU ARE BLINDLY FOLLOWING ALLOWING YOURSELF TO BE SWOODED!

  9. Windfall Profits Support

Why doesn't someone pick up that Palin Supports Obama's windfall profits Tax. In fact she implemented it in Alaska and gave and extra $1200 to each Alaskan citizen.

I thought These guys were campaigning against such taxes, but it turns out that putting all the money from the oil companies into the pockets of the voters makes you very popular (and with the size of her family – they did OK – over $20,00 this year – and that doesn't count what she gets for living in her own home)

I thought the times and mindset of Anita Bryan were over!
Now we have to go back to the Nixon era and repeat the past.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over with the same results.
Thank you McCain and Palin for showing my children the deference between
innovation and theft , diversion and truth, court of law or a court of chosen few .

Look at the product, not the packaging!

I was taught the when being bulled, joining the bully was a sign of weakness, McCain who now walks hand in hand with Rove.
Sad to see a good man go bad.

    All the best,

Bank to lying again, huh, Sarah? You must have left these portions out of your stum speech in alaska where people know you are lat out lying! How com CNN is not reporting on the beig Anti-Sarah Rally in Anchorage where what is considered a hughe crowd for Alaska showed up to protest this woman? Ah, once again the MSM only covers the news they wants, and hide the ugly little things about McCain/Palin. Cnn will block this, but I will not give up trying to expose McCain and palin for the frauds they are!

For all of those talking about the "LIBERAL" media. Just look at the quote from one of McCains main advisers-John Weaver ( I know is says former because ge was forced to step down, but do we really think he still isn't in board). Distract the public with the help of the media:

“Every day not talking about the economy, the war and how to fix a broken system is a victory for McCain,” said John Weaver, a former top strategist to the nominee who left the campaign last year. “They’re going to ride it as long as they can and as long as the mainstream media puts up every ridiculous charge.”

  17. RATS ARE OFFENDED!

    E. Boatman, you used the word 'scurried' in your description of Palin and how she returns to the wrecked "Bus to Nowhere".

You now owe rats all across America an apology!

Pitbulls have been hanging their heads for 3 weeks now!

Why are we disparaging innocent animals?

  18. Reublican Women For Obama

Sarah Palin has been proven, by the New York Times and a host of other reputable sources, to be a liar. It's not name-calling, it's the truth.

This isn't American Idol, folks. America has big problems on the domestic and international front.

Hmm – What would be the more prudent, intelligent choice? A Harvard-educated president and a six-term Senator with a graduate school education?

Or an aging cancer survivor, trailing a mouthy, sarcastic liar with an undergrad journalism degree (and a frightening, uneducated far- right political agenda) waiting breathlessly to take his place?

America needs leaders. Sarah Palin is not a leader. John McCain has demonstrated, by his irresponsible choice, that he is not prepared to give this country the leadership it deserves and desperately needs.

  19. Obama, Obama

And Obama never changes his rhetoric to suit the crowd? Have we forgotten "bitter Americans with guns and religion?" At least she doesn't try to lie her way out of it like yours, truly,CNN! (Obama)

  20. Alabama for Obama

If most of the blogs I read are against Palin, why isn't the media catching on. There is no way everyone is wrong. Everything I've heard about Palin is awful. Why is the media trying to protect her. Will they like it when she becomes vp and start messing things up worse than what they are? Will they try to cover her then? The first time I saw her face on tv, I felt there was something amiss about her. The more I hear, the more I wonder. Who the heck is she really?

According to 20/20 which aired Charles Gibson's full interview with Palin, the funds originally meant for the bridge to nowhere was used for building a "road to nowhere". They also showed the aerial view of the half-finished road.

  25. Moderate and Balanced

This is not news. Obama does the same thing. It's akin to a rock group saying "This is the best city we've ever played in" at a concert. Just another measly reason for the liberal media to beat up a woman.
