Palin tweaks stump speech for different audiences

Palin recently returned to the campaign trail after a visit back to Alaska.

Palin recently returned to the campaign trail after a visit back to Alaska.

CARSON CITY, Nevada (CNN) - Sarah Palin's reputation for rarely deviating from a scripted stump speech as she travels from city to city is not entirely accurate.

She’s open to changing a few lines here and there - depending on the audience.

Consider her speech Saturday in Nevada, site of the proposed Yucca Mountain Repository, a controversial project that would store radioactive waste in Nevadans’ backyard. At nearly every campaign stop over the last two weeks, Palin has touted McCain’s plan to expand nuclear energy, including storage and reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel.

“In a McCain-Palin administration, we’re going to expand nuclear energy, expand our use of alternative fuels, and drill now to make this nation energy independent,” she said to cheers last week in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

But in Carson City, where the Yucca issue hits closer to home, that remark about expanding nuclear energy disappeared.

Palin also gave a pair of modified stump speeches during her recent Welcome Home tour through Alaska that failed to mention the notorious Gravina Island Bridge, subject of her usual applause line on the campaign trail that “I told the Congress ‘thanks but no thanks’ for that Bridge to Nowhere."

The Alaska governor routinely cites her opposition to the bridge on the trail to reinforce her reformer reputation, but fact-check groups and the Obama campaign have noted out that Palin supported building the bridge before she came out against it.

Earlier: Palin stays firm on Bridge to Nowhere claim; Obama camp calls bridge claim a 'lie'

At rallies last week in Fairbanks and Anchorage, where Palin's original position in favor of the bridge is well-known, her “thanks but no thanks” was left behind in the Lower 48.

She is going to keep lying unless we put the facts out there. We know that the MSM is not going to do it. A good journalist give both sides a chance to respond and then come in with the truth. Which one have you seem to do this any of the stations (NONE). Campbell Brown did it one time so they could fool us in believing that they were not biais. Please do not fall for it. Go around and tell all your friends and relatives yourself.

We can't let the country we all love so much be lost.

    VOTE EARLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So let me understand this ....when Hillary mentioned about the Bosnia trip specifics the media jumped on it...(showed the video, interviewed bunch of folks who went with her etc etc) and now we just sit and watch when these lies are being said for the 9th or 10 time

Oh well...the same old media ....

Altering speeches is standard operating procedure. Just like during the republican nomination campaign McCain toned down his drilling stance in California. Dont say things that the crowd might not be so thrilled about. Not saying it doesnt mean that the crowd doesnt know any better. It's all image of course.

So I wonder how much money the Obama campaign pays this dozen or so people who make up names and post comments against McCain on these blogs? I find it incredibly deceitful but I am not the least bit surprised as the Democrats have a history of sleaze....and then they blame the Republicans.

Americans aren't so stupid. They know this is going on.

People we need to really consider what is going on here These people will say and do anything it takes to get into that White House. And if they get in for another 4 years heaven help us! It's time to put away all our prejudices and seriously think about what another Republican president will mean for this country. John McCain has one agenda....WAR! If you don't believe it just stop listening with your prejudices and start really listening to everything he is saying. This man could not care less about sending your sons and daughters into a senseless war to risk their lives. His only concern is victory. And don't you think for one minute that he would hesitate to reinstate the draft. He and all his cronies are running a wickedly evil campaign to try and make you afraid to vote for anyone but them. Don't fall for this garbage. Consider what you are doing before you cast your vote in November. We can't afford another four years of the same.

  9. California Voter

Sexism rages strong in America. First it showed its ugly face against Hillary Clinton and know against Sara Palin. Politicians try and appeal to the largest number of voters - Obama is no different. His stand on positions has changed as well as his words. Early on in the campaign when he was speaking to primarily African American audiences in South Carolina his tone and his topics was different than what he said in Iowa. People need to pay attention to what is being said first-hand for themselves, rather than rant about what they hear from someone else. Think and then vote.

P.S. There are good earmarks and bad earmarks . . .they just specify either in law or report language (not law) where federal funds are to be spent.

Many Americans are asking the question:

Does Barack Obama have the qualifications to be vice-president?

Drill, Drill Drill did they say? MCain and Palin? Did they also say you can drill today BUT there won't be any new oil from that drilling, for 5 to 10 years. So park you cars, buy a bicycle because you are on your own, the McCain/Palin families are taking an extended vacation at the end of this term, paid for courtesy of BP oil and other major oil corporations.

Lies, lies and more lies!!! That isn't change, that is a repeat of Bush/Cheney–get it!

She appointed close friends to very high positions in Alaska without them having real knowledge of the position. Sounds like someone in office right now.

Uh, all candidates re-use their stump speeches, adapting them somewhat to their audience. There's only so many ways to express an idea. Why pick on Palin? Because she's a woman?

Lets here drill baby drill now, with oil rigs floating in the gulf.
If we were depending on more offshore oil rigs (off of Florida) we would be really screwed right now.
Why isn,t the Libarian being Questioned in Trooper Gate?
To be fired then reinstated the next day sounds more disgusting then Troopergate, plus it sounds like a pattern of criminal actions.

The real problem seems to be the politics of this nation have been hijacked by the corporate media elite and , we are all to blame to some degree for allowing the democratic process to be corrupted by personal political ambitions, unresovled grievanceses and a culture of violence that, rewards wining at all cost. We are All going to Win or, We are All going Lose in this Election?

Even Karl Rove thinks McCain's ads have gone to far and said it on FOX news. If that doesn't attest to the lying, gutter politics of this campaign, I don't know what does!!!

If McCain wants to run on his military record, he needs to release ALL of his records. To date he has only released 60 pages of a 600 page file.

Palin thinks she's the second coming of Christ – geez she can walk on water don't you know! She's already blinded millions to her lies and deceit by making them think she's their savior speaking goodness, mercy and vote for me "I'm gonna save all you sinners" – thank goodness I'm not one of her blinded fools. She's more like the AntiChrist. She's pitiful and so is McCan't.

Obama has never run a state, has never run a city, has never run a business, has never run a town, heck he has never even run a small rural town. Do you really want us to believe that he is qualified to run this country? Oh yeah he has authored best selling books though he has never authored a significant piece of legislation. Oh yeah he is a great speaker. Oh yeah he gave a speech in Europe. But really now, do those things qualify him to be president?
