Palin tweaks stump speech for different audiences

Palin recently returned to the campaign trail after a visit back to Alaska.

CARSON CITY, Nevada (CNN) - Sarah Palin's reputation for rarely deviating from a scripted stump speech as she travels from city to city is not entirely accurate.

She’s open to changing a few lines here and there - depending on the audience.

Consider her speech Saturday in Nevada, site of the proposed Yucca Mountain Repository, a controversial project that would store radioactive waste in Nevadans’ backyard. At nearly every campaign stop over the last two weeks, Palin has touted McCain’s plan to expand nuclear energy, including storage and reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel.

“In a McCain-Palin administration, we’re going to expand nuclear energy, expand our use of alternative fuels, and drill now to make this nation energy independent,” she said to cheers last week in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

But in Carson City, where the Yucca issue hits closer to home, that remark about expanding nuclear energy disappeared.

Palin also gave a pair of modified stump speeches during her recent Welcome Home tour through Alaska that failed to mention the notorious Gravina Island Bridge, subject of her usual applause line on the campaign trail that “I told the Congress ‘thanks but no thanks’ for that Bridge to Nowhere."

The Alaska governor routinely cites her opposition to the bridge on the trail to reinforce her reformer reputation, but fact-check groups and the Obama campaign have noted out that Palin supported building the bridge before she came out against it.

Earlier: Palin stays firm on Bridge to Nowhere claim; Obama camp calls bridge claim a 'lie'

At rallies last week in Fairbanks and Anchorage, where Palin's original position in favor of the bridge is well-known, her “thanks but no thanks” was left behind in the Lower 48.

It amazes me that no one has yet to discusss this idea: With all the scandals that have accompanied this White House, do we really want to start another White House with Scandals. Almost everybody in Bush's administration had to step down, the two main people to have stepped down (Bush/ Cheney) slides by, but you really mean to tell me that you are going to put another person in there with so many scandals. What happens after they get in? If this is before getting in, what happens after they get in? WOW, let me see what America does.

Thank you for actually mentioning Gravina Island by name. Those of us who live here get really, really tired of being referred to as "Nowhere" all the time, especially by our very own governer. It's insulting and unfair that this needed bridge in our community has become the reviled object of scorn, nationwide. No one knows or cares where we are, therefore, we certainly should not have a bridge! She did not do this Alaskan community any good with her "thanks but no thanks" speech, and spending the money elsewhere just added insult to injury. Gov. Palin is an aggressive, skilled politician and would fill the role of vice president very capably. But she does not care about the ordinary people in small communities.

Palin "tweaks stump speeches", it should read "Palin tells certain audiences only what they want to hear." Which equals anything to get elected by vulnerable/gullible voters.

Failin doesn't even write her own speeches, the speech writers for Bush do. It's easy to tell because they are as clueless and full of lies as Bush's speeches are. She is ignorant about most everything, and, like bush, she just puts friends in office who also don't know what they are doing. If her and McLame are in the White House, their administration will be even more disfuntional than Bush's was! And our economy will go even further down the toile. Anyone who votes for them and not for the brilliant and insightful Obama is what I would call a true traitor to this country!

As opposed to Obama who told Israel he will support them 100% only to tell Palestinians later the SAME day he supports their struggle and will get them their lands back.

And another thing... Women who have fought so long and hard for rights, why are they allowing the sweat, blood and tears to be turned into campaign tricks and lies. I thought women would spoken about the fact that the republicans are using their "sacred" cause for politics. When you say someone is being sexist it's just as bad as saying they are being racist. Sometimes I wonder if when Maher calls us as voters stupid, if he is not dead on the money!!!

I guess eventually the media will show the protestors against McCain and Palin. I know it is not being shown because the media want to keep making Americans think Palin is drawing new voters when she really isn't. If you really want to be the first to report , you need to how the American people are really feeling. You can see alot using the internet. I know Republicans want us to think it is close. America is not falling for the tricks of the media. People are speaking out in large numbers.

If Palin is elected for VP, the world will think everyone in America is as smart and knowledgeable and honorable as Palin and McCain. Is that great? They will march the military to Russia the second day if they can find where Russia is.

It's pretty obvious that the McCain/Palin party doesn't think the American people are too smart. What overt manipulation, such double talk. What happened to straight talk McCain? What happened to Country first? McCain has sold his soul and the american people are not going to put up with it. Obama isn't perfect either but he has vision and is trying to take this country in a new direction. Why would we want four more years of a Republican administration? People, do your research and vote Obama!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm just a little curious about the picking of Gov Palin for VP. Why would you pick someone who is under investigation for abuse of power or whatever the charges are? Isn't this risky? What will happen if she is found guilty of the charges and how serious are these charges? if John Mccain is elected with her as the VP and the investigation is not completed until after they are in office then how can she serve? My theory is Sarah Palin was not the one John McCain actually wanted as his VP and because he was not really accepted or wanted by his party he is using Gov. Palin to try and win the election. If she is convicted of wrong doing after he is in office, how would she actual be able serve as VP and therefore he can pick the person who he really wanted in the first place which would be Joe Lieberman. He will already be in office so he will not be looking for approval by the party on his VP pick. This might be a great way of getting what he wants and also getting back at his own party. Remember repubs., you get what you ask for.

Majority of people listens to CD's My Friend.
I love listening to Obama& Biden CD's because they talk
about important issues and how to solve them like the economy for one.

The rep got the puppet they needed in Palin, someone who wouldn't ask a lot of questions, someone that would say whatever they told her to say. Put her out front to help take the heat off of McCain and also pick up those gullible womens who wouldn't vote for Obama anyway and to vote for her just because she's a women, not caring anything about issues.

Helen, Obama wasn't afraid to sit down with Bill O'Reilly, so don't say he hasn't been grilled, by a Fox conservative at that. You Republicans need to stop blaming things on the media and look in the mirror.
