Palin tweaks stump speech for different audiences

Palin recently returned to the campaign trail after a visit back to Alaska.
Palin recently returned to the campaign trail after a visit back to Alaska.

CARSON CITY, Nevada (CNN) - Sarah Palin's reputation for rarely deviating from a scripted stump speech as she travels from city to city is not entirely accurate.

She’s open to changing a few lines here and there - depending on the audience.

Consider her speech Saturday in Nevada, site of the proposed Yucca Mountain Repository, a controversial project that would store radioactive waste in Nevadans’ backyard. At nearly every campaign stop over the last two weeks, Palin has touted McCain’s plan to expand nuclear energy, including storage and reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel.

“In a McCain-Palin administration, we’re going to expand nuclear energy, expand our use of alternative fuels, and drill now to make this nation energy independent,” she said to cheers last week in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

But in Carson City, where the Yucca issue hits closer to home, that remark about expanding nuclear energy disappeared.

Palin also gave a pair of modified stump speeches during her recent Welcome Home tour through Alaska that failed to mention the notorious Gravina Island Bridge, subject of her usual applause line on the campaign trail that “I told the Congress ‘thanks but no thanks’ for that Bridge to Nowhere."

The Alaska governor routinely cites her opposition to the bridge on the trail to reinforce her reformer reputation, but fact-check groups and the Obama campaign have noted out that Palin supported building the bridge before she came out against it.

Earlier: Palin stays firm on Bridge to Nowhere claim; Obama camp calls bridge claim a 'lie'

At rallies last week in Fairbanks and Anchorage, where Palin's original position in favor of the bridge is well-known, her “thanks but no thanks” was left behind in the Lower 48.

Everything that comes out of her mouth is a lie. Did she think of some new ones?

I think people genuinely like her. I do. I think she is incredibly bright and smart. However, she just does not have the knowledge. The core knowledge to be VP. She had to be tutored on foreign policy, economic policy, domestic policy. This doesn't worry people because of her appeal. Obama had the same appeal and then he had to earn people's trust that he could actually do the job. McCain is putting all his bets on her, which is keeping her in the spotlight. My gut tells me that at some point, it will backfire. Its not always great to get all of the attention. Just ask Barack Obama.

Good god – Media, will you stop talking about Sarah Palin. You think we are interested because we tune in but how can we not pay attention to the coverage when its all you folks talk about.

McCain is running for president – put his pictures up there alongside Obama. You are supposed to report to us, not their campaign managers.

  7. The lies keep coming (to our faces)

More and more is coming out about Palin, and her interview proves that she is a liar.

Did you see John McCain say on the VIEW that Palin did not take earmarks as governor of Alaska? He LIED right to their faces!

I really don't see how Evangelicals can overlook all the lies Palin and McCain have made. I don't believe God would be on the side of constant liars.

Have you contrasted this to Obama's speechs? It is obvious that you you do not care to hold the future vice president to the same standard you do a Presidential Candadate. Obama profits on the back of the less fortuniate and he uses our taxes to do it. Obama and his left wing wacko friends are the only ones that profit from his platform. Try and find an example the change Obama brought about in Chicago during his tenure or shown the results of any of his proposals being successful. There has not been a single instance where CNN reports the true NEW – Obama is an incompetent, junior sentator who is only a legend in his own mind! 11 years in the illinois senate and you cannot point to a since example of his work being successful. You can co-author any legislature, but it is just words if there are no examples! Examples Please! Someone? Anyone? I will settle for a photo that shows someone other than Obama and the liberal elites that have benefited from his efforts?

why lie? it's pitiful that's all they got. perhaps some integrity and honor would serve mccain/palin better. if they lose the election and their honor,or if they win the election ,but, still lose their honor, just how far will that go in uniting the nation? i,for one ,will not unite behind a president/vp who lies, consistently, to get elected.

As time goes on, we are all finding that Sarah Palin has lied, or at least extemely stretched the truth, on several issues. Oh she went to Iraq to visit troops, then we find out later she has never stepped foot in Iraq. She also suppossedly did the same in Ireland, only to find out she simply stoped in the country to refuel her jet. What's next? Also, she is NOT experienced enough to be the Vice President. She was mayor of her tiny home town and Governor of Alaska for LESS THAN 2 YEARS. Come on!!! I can name a hundred people more qualified than her for the Vice Presidenial canidate. McCain chose her because she is young and attractive, and is the governor of Alaska...where he wants to drill more for oil. Thats' it!!! That is a pathetic approach to running for President and Vice President. The McCain campaign also used Palin's gender in any and every way possible to try and make it seem like Obama is attacking her when he really is not. Pathetic!!!

What about the lies of Obama saying he will give EVRYONE a tax break at one location, then at another say he will tax the rich only, then at another interview he says he won't tax the rich if the economy is still bad!

Nothing but double talk from Obama, why doesn't anyone at CNN track these lies?

The reasons I am supporting Barack Obama:

THE BUSH/MCCAIN REPUBLICAN LEADERSHIP HAS FAILED:

Bin Ladin has not been captured

War in IRAQ that was fabricated lies by Bush/McCain

4300+ Soldiers killed in Iraq war

Real threat of McCain attacking Iran and Syria and Russia

    Fuel Prices through the roof

Largest OIL COMPANY PROFITS in history

Largest OIL COMPANY TAX GIVEAWAY in history

    Record Home Forclosures

    Record Unemployment

630,000 jobs lost since Republicans took control

Outsourcing of Jobs to foreign countries

    Food prices out of control

    Failing Education system

Record number of people without Healthcare

ONLY Major Country in the world without UNIVERSAL HEATHCARE

Loss of Respect around the Globe

    Failing to recognize Global Warming

SO YOU NEED TO ASK YOURSELF: ARE YOU BETTER OFF NOW THAN YOU WERE 8 YEARS AGO?

    OBAMA/BIDEN '08

I was under the impression that both Mrs. Palin and Senator McCain were Christians–they claim that they are. I am a Christian and I learned that it is a grave sin to lie. This applies to obfuscation–"technically not a lie" is a lie because it is all about intent–if the intent is to deceive then it is a lie. That is why Jesus said, "Say 'yes' when you mean yes and 'no' when you mean no anything else is from the evil one." So, as a Christian, I cannot vote for anyone who goes as a gossipmonger among the people. By their lies, McCain Palin lost my vote and anyone who is Christian should seriously consider if God wants them to reward a liar with their vote.
