Palin tweaks stump speech for different audiences

Palin recently returned to the campaign trail after a visit back to Alaska.

Palin recently returned to the campaign trail after a visit back to Alaska.

CARSON CITY, Nevada (CNN) - Sarah Palin's reputation for rarely deviating from a scripted stump speech as she travels from city to city is not entirely accurate.

She’s open to changing a few lines here and there - depending on the audience.

Consider her speech Saturday in Nevada, site of the proposed Yucca Mountain Repository, a controversial project that would store radioactive waste in Nevadans’ backyard. At nearly every campaign stop over the last two weeks, Palin has touted McCain’s plan to expand nuclear energy, including storage and reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel.

“In a McCain-Palin administration, we’re going to expand nuclear energy, expand our use of alternative fuels, and drill now to make this nation energy independent,” she said to cheers last week in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

But in Carson City, where the Yucca issue hits closer to home, that remark about expanding nuclear energy disappeared.

Palin also gave a pair of modified stump speeches during her recent Welcome Home tour through Alaska that failed to mention the notorious Gravina Island Bridge, subject of her usual applause line on the campaign trail that “I told the Congress ‘thanks but no thanks’ for that Bridge to Nowhere."

The Alaska governor routinely cites her opposition to the bridge on the trail to reinforce her reformer reputation, but fact-check groups and the Obama campaign have noted out that Palin supported building the bridge before she came out against it.

Earlier: Palin stays firm on Bridge to Nowhere claim; Obama camp calls bridge claim a 'lie'

At rallies last week in Fairbanks and Anchorage, where Palin's original position in favor of the bridge is well-known, her “thanks but no thanks” was left behind in the Lower 48.

Wolf Blitzer let mccain off the hook a few months ago, right after Iraqi president al-Maliki said, on video, that he favored a 16-month timetable for our troop withdrawal. When Blitzer asked mccain about it, his response was, "He wouldn't say that." Blitzer never followed up with, "Yes, he did."
Too many years of sucking up to mccain has rendered the media almost useless in questioning his statements and motives. They played the rev. Wright story for weeks on end, but give scant time to all of mccain's flips on the tax cuts, off-shore drilling, torture, his lies and distortions of Sen. Obama's record and policies, his faux pious sincerity after his dishonorable statements questioning Obama's patriotism. Are the media afraid of the righties calling them liberal or will they actually do their jobs?

Ironically, Palin is true to the lyrics of her campaign song, which by the way Heart has asked the campaign not to use because Palin's views do not reflect those of the majority of women in this country, however, "if the real thing don't do the trick, you've got to make up something quick..." This is exactly what the McCain/Palin ticket is doing: making up whatever needs to be created to suck in the mindless. Palin is against earmarks, but Alaska has requested earmarks per capita than any other state in the union. She for abstinence only before marriage, yet she has failed to encourage her daughter to follow this tenet. She lied about selling the governor's jet on ebay. She doesn't know jack about foreign policy: my 25 year old daughter knows more. Plus, what would happen if Palin becomes pregnant while in office? Has anyone ever considered this? Start thinking or we're in a world of _hit!

Check out the recent move made by Russia and Venezuela...WAKE UP!!!

Well for Alaskans, they KNOW what she did like that bridge to nowhere.. I will say she sure can lie to american people at ease at thats scary and wrong on so many levels. Lying is against the Ten commandments / Bible and God doesnt like that. Coming from religious folks is hypocritical and I don't want another liar in the whitehouse. If they are lying now about a bridge I wonder how many other lies regarding policy and what they plan to do are they just spouting off... I cant afford four more years and would never vote for liars..

  7. let's face the truth

The American people are willing to allow a woman who went to 5 different colleges before graduating, mayor of a town bigger than some shopping malls, governor of a state whose population is the size of Charlotte, NC, the next VP or president of these United States. Have we all gone mad? You cannot even compare the brilliance of Obama with her!!! Yes, there were other presidents who had limited experience like Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln... but the difference is that they along with Obama were brilliant leaders who represented all of the people! You could see that even with the prepping for her interview with Charles Gibson, she sounded like she was interviewing for a beauty contest. We complain and scream bloody murder about Bush's tactics, but then replace another set just like the one that is in now. McCain turned out to be an immoral, out of touch with people's problems, very old candidate who has no honor or shame in how he is running his campaign. If you cannot see that he is NOT talking about the issues but is smearing lies, then we are in serious trouble!

Typical of a GOP candidate to change wording for speeches depending on the venue. This woman is so transparent! I just hope that voters this year have gained a few more brain cells than in the last 2 elections so we have a President and V.P. with I.Q.'s over 60 at the helm, not to mention the administration chosen. For those of you who think that Governor Palin is a maverick or some goddess, you are so shallow. This woman was instrumental in enacting the aerial shooting of wolves in Alaska, which is enough to make me despise her, let alone the recklessness of her preaching abstinence to her teens. We know how well that worked. What a buffoon! She is not a maverick by any means. Palin can crank out a good speech, but then, it's pretty easy to read a teleprompter in front of a big audience! DUH! That's a no-brainer.

The media continues to nit pick Sarah Palins for obvious political gain. I ask you, why did you not give Obama the same scrutiny over Wright, Ayers, cutting the military remarks, voting present,.....etc....etc....etc......Major double standards LIBERAL MEDIA!

Palin talks reform and anti-good 0ld boys network and then as Governor she fires the competent people who she fears will not be loyal and just like Bush hires incompetent directors at high salaries from her stock of high school friends. Cronyism... that is Sarah Palin's record. (Remember Bush's Brownie and FEMA and all those cronies in Iraq that just sat on their hands and gave out suitcases of cash?) If we want someone like Bush in the White House, then McCain/Palin is the pick. McCain has shredded his maverick image, bringing in all the Bush boys to run his campaign, which is why McCain is lying through his teeth. No more Straight Talk Express.

There is no lies in your post.Obama will lower taxes for 95 % of Americans and that is an independant fact that cannot be changed by McCain /Palin.Obama has been consistant on that from day one.As any good leader would do he may even take his tax cut further since the economy is getting worse by the day.He has the intellegence to see that the people making more then $250,000 are in need of a tax break too so he is willing to look at all Americans, which is what a good President should do.This against McCains tax break ONLY for the rich tells you who is concerned about EVERY American not just the rich.Look up Obamas tax plan and research the independant breakdowns and decide for yourself. You choose a President who wants to only help the rich and you can choose one that will help EVERY American.Pretty simple and truthful !!

I believe everyone here wants to know ALL the truth..not just bits

So here are a few questions Ms Palin before the election:

    1. Since you were pregnant and you started to leak fluid, during a
speech in Texas, you chose to finish your speech and then fly for
11 hours back to Alaska. And then drive for 45 minutes to a hospital
in a small town to have a baby with health problems.

How so? would think that you would want the best care possible
for yourself and the baby at a large city to handle your needs.

    2. I read in your newspaper that you gave birth to a 6lb 2oz baby boy.
Which you have told us that he was born 4 weeks premature.

Does a premature baby not weigh less if premature?..just asking.
Did you transport yourself and baby to a neo-natal unit because he was premature?..No because you were back to work 3 days after giving birth. THAT'S ODD

3.Why are all the family pictures taken off the govt and other websites?

Are there things there you don't want us to see?...Too late we've already seen them.

    4. It's odd that the only baby's parents name that was born in the hospital on that day was definitely NOT Palin. Newspapers are printed

Looks like the MSM hasn't the gazoo's to check on these questions because the Repub will call it "sexist"

You got a phone call when in Texas that Bristol was going into labor, so you booted it for home to make a good coverup.

Either there are going to be a lot of people perjure themselves, either way you and McWar are in a whole pile of hurt.

Can't believe that Palin is still sticking with voting against the bridge to nowhere...she has already been debunked by all except for McCain himself!! SHE was for it until Congress decided to let it die..but she took the money! She is insulting our intelligence!

Conservative Christians in America that think they HAVE to vote Republican….. read your bible…if you truly think that lying is okay…. go ahead and vote McLie /Palin…. if you listen to your beliefs and your heart…. vote accordingly…. P.S. You don't have to tell anyone who you voted for! Come on Cnn...why won't you print this???

Bibek, you don't have to necessarily turn Democrat. Honey, I'm a black Republican who refuses to put the likes of McCain in the White House. Here's my problem, he wasn't good enough for us in 2004, now he's our savior in 2008. Has the Republican Party sold out like that? Please, you and I can continue to stand for the principles that once made our party great by refusing to vote for just anything.

Her "experience" and leadership as the mayor of Wasilla and Governor of Alaska are terrifying. I read the article on that details her administration's nepotism and secrecy. It's like a more extreme version of Bush/Cheney. I sincerely hope people will wake up to what she really is and what the Republicans are using her for. This woman has a good chance of becoming president and people need to think about what that really means.

The republicans kept her under lockdown prepping her for time when she has to answer the press and stand alone. Her answers with Charles Gibson were just not good enough and there are (or should) be more interviews ahead. The bubble is about to burst.

If the republicans keep denying access to her it reinforces the point that she's not ready. This party will lie, cheat and cry to get elected. They will do everything except defend their record and talk about what they plan to do to improve this country. McCain can't even draw a crowd on his own and he's the top of the ticket so he needs an unknown to speak his words and bring in some people. How pathetic is that? This Palin/McCain ticket is a joke.

    Go Obama/Biden.
