Karl Rove had some rare criticism for McCain Sunday.
Karl Rove had some rare criticism for McCain Sunday.

(CNN) – Former Bush adviser Karl Rove suggested Sunday that John McCain had gone “one step too far” in some of his recent ads attacking Barack Obama.

Rove has leveled similar criticism against Obama. “McCain has gone in some of his ads - similarly gone one step too far,” he told Fox News, “and sort of attributing to Obama things that are, you know, beyond the ‘100 percent truth’ test.”

Watch: The campaign ad wars heat up

The Obama campaign immediately leaped on the quote. "In case anyone was still wondering whether John McCain is running the sleaziest, most dishonest campaign in history, today Karl Rove - the man who held the previous record - said McCain's ads have gone too far," said campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor, in a statement sent to reporters minutes after Rove’s on-air comments.

Listen: the Obama camp slams McCain in Sunday conference call

Rove masterminded both of President Bush’s successful White House bids, including a tough primary season battle with John McCain in 2000.

UPDATE: Rove said Sunday Democrats e-mailing around his quote without noting that he levels similar criticism against Obama were distorting his meaning. “Of course, they fail to say anything about the fact I said they were even more misleading,” he told Politico.

John McCain is a Liar and I do not Trust him to make any decisions for me or my family. My Vote is for BARACK OBAMA for President!!

Steve Anderson   September 14th, 2008 7:40 pm ET

This may be the first and only time I ever agree with anything Mr. Rove has ever said, although I seriously doubt he could actually recognize the truth if it hit him with a brick. This is a man who seriously needs to be retired to the steel hotel for a stretch because of his criminal lying and manipulations. And he will forever be vilified in American history as the man who inflicted George W. Bush on the US.

I don 't think he has had one ad that was the truth about Obama. On the other hand Obamas ad's have been right on the money; espeically about the lobbyist.

The Liar calling liars too extreme? Are the Republicans going to try to distract the American people all the way to the election? This could be funny if it wasn't so predictable.

William E. Timmons – the Lobbyist of lobbyist was an interesting recent pick by Mccain to lead his transition team if elected. It insures the Lobbyist wont miss a beat to continue bush policies.

I dont get how Mccain can come out of his face with "Change, change, change" this week and then add another lobbyist to his machine.

Absolutely bizzare.

Just short of 100%? not exactly

A walking LIE? check.

Alex   September 14th, 2008 6:52 pm ET

Who else will jump on Rove's wagon from the Republican side and admit how nasty they are getting? I know McCain will not do it since he is desperate to win. This is his last chance to have an attempt at the presidency so he has to saying anything he could think of that will boost his chance. It does not have to be true. There is a scale worst than failing Rove’s scale.

Ron   September 14th, 2008 6:52 pm ET

I have yet to see a Republican run an honest ad. Same old tactics. Bush did this is 200 and 2004.

Republicans refuse to discuss policies and instead spread lies, rumors and half truths. It is the American peoples fault for continually falling for this type of campaigning. They do it because it works.

McCain will win in November not on policies, but because of the lies and rumors they spread.

Dont like it? Vote Democrat and show the republicans we will not allow this type of campaigning any longer.

MR AMERICA   September 14th, 2008 6:51 pm ET

Why would someone vote for someone who was beaten by George W Bush in 2000 in the primaries? And presumably McCain was more well liked back then?

So the GOP is running the second place winner from 2000?

What?

Ralph   September 14th, 2008 6:51 pm ET

True Democrats will vote or any idiot the party puts up, as will a true Republician, it is up to the rest of us to make the best choice

Tom Griffin   September 14th, 2008 6:51 pm ET

Look this is the test now. Gov. Sarah Palin and Sen. John McCain lied to the American people continuously;and add insult to injury, the American people are aware but chose to support the" McCain lies." This is a testament of what that administration will do to all of us. The problem is Palin will stop at nothing to get what she wants and the
Presidency too.

FormerAlaskanFemale   September 14th, 2008 6:49 pm ET

Karl Rove, the GOP boy, admits that John McCain is a liar (his ads are not a 100% true). Now according to McCain when he appeared on The View, and he was asked why he approved of those ads. His reply was because the ads were true... Now who is the LIAR? If you are not a liar or 100% truthful, Mr. McCain, then please tell the American people why you are so aligned with the GOP, the party of Karl Rove. Do you really expect people to believe you are going to CHANGE Washington.

And Mr. McCain, I agree with the ladies on The View, you have CHANGED!!! There was a time I would have voted for you. Not now, no way, no how, no McCain.

Truth is America is tired of the Rove/Schmidtz/Davis campaign of lies, smears and division. Stick to the issues and your bones might not get picked.

McCain has allowed his people to launch a Dirty Campaign. But then again, it is probably not really McCain's Campaign anymore, it is Sarah Barracuda Palin's campaign. And we all know that she is just power hungry.

Cindy and John word of advise… watch your backs… Sarah is not in this for you or America. She is in it for herself and Rove/Schmidtz/Davis/Chenney/Bush have found the real 3rd Presidency of G.W. Bush.

Dig that Bush Doctrine!

McCain and Palin would be a disaster for this country. She couldn't control her own daughter, How do you suppose she can run a country? Why wasn't her minister's remarks about Jews all over the news? This woman has not only lied once, but she has more skeltons in her closet than carter has liver pills.
McCain is re-living the past. If I recall, the Vietnam War was forty years ago. Doesn't he have any way out of the mess in which he voted with Bush 90% of the time? It's apparent that he stays in the attack mode in all his speeches.

Comig from the king of sleaze himself, this is quite a statement. One must ask what is the alterior motive here. Probalby to keep the debate on the personal and not on the issues. FOCUS ON THE ISSUES. Who out there has benefited from the last 6 years of RNC domination and more two years of deadlocked congress.

The sad thing is that many American's are falling for the McCain campaign. Many average American's aren't into politics for the issues rather the circus act antics of politicians such as John McCain. I'll admit that it has been working for him. Won't I won't admit is that these types of campaigns are what America needs. This is exactly the type of politics Barack Obama will eliminate from Washington DC and the rest of the country. It's one thing to be Barack Obama and stand for something and believe in something. It's another thing to be John McCain and just say things because he thinks thats what voters want to hear regardless of if it's truthful or not.

Sandy   September 14th, 2008 6:38 pm ET

Yeah, take it from the king of sleazy...which white hair guy is more sleazy?? McCain or Rove?

kimbo   September 14th, 2008 6:38 pm ET

The New Democrats- you can't hide behind the moniker, it pretty easy to see you are a Republican conservative. Even John McCain has said he turned negative because Obama would play by his rules. Remember he said it to those hard hitting journalist of the view. No mistaking that. If they can't handle that hard hitting show, how on earth will they handle the Russians and the Chinese. and how will they take back our country from the Chinese who Bush sold it to.

Helen, NY   September 14th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

CNN, do not distort what Karl Rove says. he has told both campaigns that theirs ads are not completely true so why should you just headline it saying McCain campaign is wrong. It shows you are biased and I know that you will moderate this message and then you will not publish it because it undermines your fairness.

josh   September 14th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

btw... i just read a comment that said "Palin is all for women"...
Is this the same person I've read about that actually wanted to charge victims of rape for the rape kits? oh yeah, she's "all for women" all right... at least joe biden championed the violence against women act...

Jawinka   September 14th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

You know, it's funny.

Everyone accuses John McCain of lying. However, you must have some blinders on.

One of the reasons I do not support Obama is that I got so sick and tired of Obama construing words of others to suit his own agenda.

I am now getting so sick and tired of every Democrat on TV saying "McCain is more of the same" and "McCain embraces Bush policy." Listen. If this were so true, Americans can figure it out. We don't need every answer to every question on these talk shows to be: "McCain is more of the same." If he is, America will be able to tell.

After all, even Obama said, "Americans aren't stupid." However, Democrats are treating us like we are.

josh   September 14th, 2008 6:34 pm ET

simple fact:
if we as a nation vote for liars, we cannot expect them to tell the truth after they're elected.

patros   September 14th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

I am sure that my comment is not going to be published....but hey I just thought it this forum needs input from an undecided vote.

Both Obama and McCain have lied...maybe lie is too strong a word....they have both stretched the truth....democrats can say Obama is clean and Republicans can make the same claim about McCain but as someone is not biased towards either side I am hoping both sides will talk about the real issues and stay away from negative ads.

But one thing I am finding real disturbing is the fact that many new agencies including CNN are pro Obama (on the same hand I would have to say Fox News seems pro McCain)....I don't want new agencies to make the choice for me...share the news as it is....lay it out for us and let us make the choice....it is shameful what you guys are doing....this particular article is prime example....Karl Rove called out both parties when it came to the ads but CNN had to make it sound like he only called out the Republicans...come on this is not reporting....I would expect this from a sleazy tabloid not from CNN.

At this point of time I am undecided and will vote for the candidate who does the best job in explaining what he hopes to accomplish and that decision is not going to be based on WHICH PARTY HE BELONGS TO, THE ORATORY SKILLS OF THE CANDIDATE, THE RACE OR THE GENDER.....we need a President who has a plan (a plan that is logical and has a chance to succeed)....neither party has gone into details yet.

Trish A   September 14th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

Obama didnt mean that we were going to teach kids about sex at 5 but age appropriate things such as knowing what is a good touch or bad touch. Considering how many Republicans are pedophiles I think this is a good thing

Palin has lied about going to Iraq, the bridge to nowhere........ etc

It offends me when Mccain lies and Palin because they state how "moral they are" Maybe McCain should start with thou shall not commit adultery

Question: Why is it the McCain and Palin are stating they are trying to appeal to the Hockey mom's, shouldn't they be trying to appeal to all Americans, You never here them say we are trying to reach African Americans, Asians, Hispanic or any other minority group. The question is if you are seeking the office of President of the United States should you be trying to appeal to the all the people of the United Sates and not one segment.

Maggie   September 14th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

Why did CNN not also report that Rover also said that Obama stepped over that line as well. I am seeing only one sided reporting on CNN and I thought the media was suppose to be neutal.

I feel that someone who owns CNN is part of the Obama camapign and that is why CNN is not being neutral. This is really poor reporting and if CNN does not change, I can see them losing alot of viewers tuning into them. Cone on CNN why don't you give both sides and just give the negative side for the republicans and don't report the same thing for Obama.

This kind of reporting is not going to win Obama the election because the voters have to like and trust him. If they don't, they will not vote for him. CNN, STOP BEING SO BIASED. IT IS NOT NOT GOING TO WIN THE ELECTION FOR OBAMA. THE VOTERS WANT MCCAIN & PALIN AND THEY WILL WIN IN NOVEMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It really bothers me when people make sexism an issue in this election. The American woman’s movement never included women of color. How can we compare the journey of the white woman with the journey of the black man? The struggles are entirely different. While the white woman was fixing her petty coat, the black man was on a slave boat. While the white woman was beginning to further her education the black man was working on a plantation. Wake up America…we’re being bamboozled.

Elizabeth   September 14th, 2008 6:17 pm ET

To be clear, Obama and the media are distorting what Rove said!

Rove said BOTH the McCain camp and the Obama camp have gone too far in some of their ads. Obama just chose to point the finger at McCain.

As an Obama supporter, I am dismayed by the lackluster quality of the Obama ads. It seems like McCain is running ads on every channel, all times of day, and his ads make sense, whether or not they're true. Obama isn't getting his message across to the people. As a supporter, if his ads don't grab me, that's bad.

Obama, you need to focus on how McCain changed his tactics around 2006. Up until then he was doing everything according to Bush. He hasn't changed his whole life until then. Then he only did it to win this election. Jon Stewart made that clear and so can you. You need to. Your current advertising campaign is not working and we will lose this election unless you fire your advertising campaign manager and hire someone else.

OswaldP   September 14th, 2008 6:17 pm ET

People running these Ads full of lies know that a large number of Amerians believe in any BS they see on TV or on Internet, without thinking or further researching. This is why Sarah Palin is still riding on the lies she strated telling at the RNC. She has repeated those lies so many times, now she has convinced herself they are the truth! Best excample: the Bridge to Nowhere. She "officially" cancelled the project on 2007 AFTER the US Congress pulled the plug on the project in 2006! @ gary

for starters....obama didn't get paid by muslims to get thru college he made it thru scholarships & loans.

and even if muslims paid his way, whut is WRONG with that?...do you have a bigoted mind in suspecting that ALL muslims are evil terrorists?

2nd, name ONE thing that obama is linked to as being currupted? even with the rekzo issue, it has been repeatedly investigated years and years even before obama decided to run for presidency, to show that obama NEVER done any wrong-doing. but that in comparison to mccain & the keating five

3rd, HRC lost the camapign because of imcompetency within her own people, especially mark penn. they couldn't manage her camapign funds, had conflicting strategies, and were at each other's throats. the media attacked BOTH campaigns evenly...to every hillary negative report, there's the obsessiveness of rev. wright, or the ABC debates and something to that effect.

lastly, how did a SENATOR who's only power is to push laws through help make us safe in regards of national security? if you're talking about ONE military strategy that ended up being successful, well kudos for him, but obama was RIGHT about we never should of been there in the 1st place, and 95% RIGHT as to WHY we never should of been there in the 1st place. obama been RIGHT about everything currently going on in regards of foreign policy and national security as we speak, from iraq getting a timetable, to direct talks to quadaffi to now we're allies with lybia, to going into pakistan to get the terrorists, to us dropping the ball on afghanistan....obama actually got A PLAN on how we'll finish in iraq whereas mccain has NO plan just saying we need to stay to "win"...win whut?

Gary, Who cares if Muslims paid for his college? How is this relevant? Being that is was a SCHOLARSHIP, there were probably Jews, Muslims, Catholics, Baptists, Aethists, Pagans, Wicans, Satanists, etc as part of the alumni/taxpayers that provided the funding for the scholarship. Unless you have factual evidence to prove that Obama is something over than what he says he is, shut up. Better yet, focus on your own best interests and stop spreading gossip.

By the way, the US was not founded by the founding fathers to be a CHRISTIAN nation and there is no LIMITUS test for president indicating that you have to be a christian to lead this country. You may think Christians are holier than thou, but go back and history (ie, educate yourself) and you will find that no religion can claim to be the end all be all nor can it be so self-righteous to say their hands are blood free.

McCain is a puppet and liar who cannot answer a simple question on his own voting record. That speaks more to me, than whether Obama is a practicing muslim, christian, Jew or gourd worshipper. I frankly don't care what faith a candidate practices as it has no bearing in my beliefs. You sound very insecure in yours.

The Barack Obama people are really going bazurk to jump and distort Roves comment, but between the two camps there have been alot of hype and no hope what's so ever and between the two the Obama campaign has been more disingenuous with their attacks. You know what they say, the more things change the more they stay the same.

Ken, LA California   September 14th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

The republican party thinks that the US has become it colony and that they are only answerable to God, that is why Palin keeps on talking of the holy war in Iraq, much like the Devine Right of the Kings, they are operating like a monarchy.

joe m   September 14th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

sadly both sides are guilty of this... several news organiztions, including CNN, have pointed out that both sides have gone to airing charges, accusations, and commnents that they either should or must know that are just outright lies. dems should not be so happy that rove made this statement as, as this reports points out, he made similar comments about obama. it would be ridiculous for dems to say that one should take rove's comments to how low the mccain camp has gone, while expecting, at the same time, that rove's criticism of their candidate be ignored. this is the same old washington politics and both sides and candidates are guilty. it is disappointing, for me more so that sen. obama has taken this route.

If you are going to open your mouth then have proof of what you are talking about. You are no better than McPAIN in the a- – for spreading the lies. I suggest you go to factchecker on the internet and get your story straight

suv2001   September 14th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

Rove is not fooling anyone, and he is doing damage control. The ladies of the View did what the media has fail to do, that is to call McCain on his lies. The ladies of the View open up in full view what type of campaign McCain is running. Rove is also looking at the poll numbers. McCain convention bounce is disappearing. Some polls have McCain up by 2, other polls have Obama and McCain even, and some polls have Obama slightly ahead. All of this is good news for Obama, McCain camp fail in their attempts go negative without being call on it. Now, even his convention bounce with Palin is gone.

Independent in NC   September 14th, 2008 6:00 pm ET

We have been looking for bin Laden for the last 7 years. We probably would have had an easier time of it to begin with if Clinton hadn't told the world we were listening to his satellite phone conversations prior to 9/11 (but then, would 9/11 even have happened? Food for thought.)
We may not like the war or the Patriot Act, but Al Qaida has not been able to perpetrate another attack on the US since 9/11. A large part of that has to do with our troops killing off members of their organization.

I'm glad Obama has said he is going to do things, because so far, he hasn't done much in our government. He's a one term senator who has been campaigning most of the time instead of doing the job he was elected to do (I have the same criticism of Biden and McCain). Obama talks about change, but he has voted with his party 97% of the time. It seems the message is only "change from Bush," not true change, with that record.

But he's not running against Bush, he's running against McCain. McCain is a senator, he is not a member of the Bush administration, despite being of the same party. I want to hear about Obama's vision of change for the GOVERNMENT we have now – the whole thing – not just the person in the White House. Ousting Bush and following the Democratic party line is not real change, it's just another person in charge doing what the party says.

One thing I like about McCain is that over the last 26 years, he has broken with his party, and he has taken a stand, be it right or wrong. One of my concerns about Obama is that he has not struck out on his own, and often will not even pick a side. I agree with quite a bit of his platform, but my concern is whether he is willing to make an unpopular choice right off the bat for the nation, rather than waiting and changing his mind later.

Karl Rove is irrelevant .............I want to know why CNN never reported on the Anti-Palin rally that took place yesterday in Alaska............and why a conservative radio personality tried to censor the organizers by giving out their private phone numbers over the air. THIS IS A SERIOUS THING. Palin supporters are acting like dictators in Alaska by trying to intimidate people who appose her............... It speaks to the kind of leader she'll be.......ARE PEOPLE AFRAID TO SPEAK OUT AND LOSE THEIR JOBS?

McCain should have left out the kindergarten sex education ad in my opinion. But it is factually correct that there wasn't a clause that provided less information for the younger students. I personally see nothing wrong with providing factual biological information (geared for young kids) on sex and reproduction. But we have more important issues of grave concern. McCain was not as petty as Obama, who really meant the pig comment – all women know a man like him – he'll put you down, then blame it on you. Or call you a poor sport. The DNC web site even has an ad called "Flipper TV" featuring John McCain. If questioned, Obama would recoil in fake outrage that you think he's making sport of McCain's war injuries where his arms were broken, leaving them like "flippers" he can't raise above his head. Your man is a loser people, face it.

Republicans will tell you directly that they lie!!! Rudy Giuliani did at the convention – he said

“I learned as a trial lawyer a long time ago, if you don’t have the facts, you’ve got to change them.” Check the transcript.

So while he used this jargon against Obama… Here is my question.

Giuliani – based on what you learned "a long time ago" when do we know when you are lying and when you are telling the truth?

In our country he would be sued by Legal Organizations – in your country he gets to stand up at a national convention and say that lawyers are liars.

It’s sad that we the Obama supporters are reporting lies and tricks by McCain and Palin in the present, but the Republicans want to go back in time acting as if they are proving a legit reason NOT to vote for Obama. Then to think we are going to turn away from Obama because they say he lied….Well McCain and Palin ARE still lying and continue to LIE even when it is proven they LIED, DAY one when Palin open her mouth she lied with a straight face, SCARY. Don’t TRUST Rove Obama, he’s up to something or MANY MORE of Palin LIES are about to be revealed by the real reporters “THE VIEW”.

4change   September 14th, 2008 5:43 pm ET

McCain/Palin team is the worst thing that could happen to our country:

Both candidates lack of integrity. Merriam-Webster Definition: Integrity implies trustworthiness and incorruptibility to a degree that one is incapable of being false to a trust, responsibility, or pledge.

McCain’s multiple infidelities while married to his first wife Carol, his continued misrepresentation of the facts and right down lies about Obama’s record and policies, lies and misrepresentation of Palin’s real record and experience, his lobbyist friends who are running his campaign, it goes on and on and on. Even McCain’s wife does not trust him, otherwise, why would she had insisted on a prenuptial agreement that denies McCain any access to her money? If she trusts him as a person and believes on his honesty, why would she need a prenuptial agreement?

McCain is trying to win our votes by drilling into the minds of the American people, his experience as a POW, and while at the same time running a very dishonest campaign, which takes away the honor of that sacrifice. And now Rove of all people is openly criticizing McCain for misrepresenting the truth on his ads against Obama.

Palin is no better than McCain; she has consistently lied about her own record, her hiring of lobbyist, her knowledge of foreign affairs, her use and misuse of earmarks, etc. Her interview with ABC really scared me. According to the FBI, Alaska is the first in the nation, per capita, for rapes, and second for murder of women by men. Then there is the well publicized state Senate committee's investigation of Palin. The McCain campaign has launched an attack on its credibility, saying four of its members are Democrats supporting Obama, but they failed to mention that the other 10 members of the committee are Republicans.

McCain's health is an issue of grave concern for all Americans, regardless of political persuasion. If McCain wins this election, given the fact that he has been treated for an invasive melanoma and other maladies, there is a very good chance that at some point in the near future Palin will be running our country. If that doesn’t worry you than I don’t know what will.

McCain has said that this race is about personalities and how much the candidates are liked by the voters; he refuses to discuss issues, and is using Palin to attract women voters. Does he think that women are stupid? I hope Americans’ wake up before it’s too late.

Ron L   September 14th, 2008 5:41 pm ET

BUT THIS DOESN'T NOT MATTER TO THE McCAIN CAMPAIGN!!
The only thing they care about is WINNING!!! They know that with MANY Americans if you tell them VERY negative things over and over they WILL believe them even if they are not true. Karl Rove knows this better than most!!
It is up to Americans to wake-up and not just listen to the ads of EITHER candidate!! This is EXACTLY how we got stuck with the present President.

He said BOTH sides have gone a step too far, and both sides probably have gone a step too far.

Obama's email ad is too far,

and

McCain's sex-ed ad is too far.

The question I would ask is which one of these "too far's" will have the greatest backlash, distorting children's education or belittling a handicap.

The one with the greatest potential in Rove's opinion is probably belittling a handicap.

Make no mistake Rove, love him or hate him, is a very smart man.

Anna SW Missouri   September 14th, 2008 5:31 pm ET

As a Republican woman that has felt that the extreme right wing religious idiots have taken over our party, but now I wonder what they are actually talking about within their own homes. They were so happy with this choice for VP, but then came the news of the daughter's pregnancy, and of course we are all supposed to give them respect because "Life happens!" But now, it comes out that Sarah Palin was also pregnant when she got married. Her son was born 7 1/2 months after she eloped to "save her parent's money"

Are they sure they really want to put her into the white house? Obviously, she hasn't quite lived the moral life she wants everyone to think she has. How are they ever going to be able to condemn the "Liberal left" for their low moral lifestyle when all Dems will have to do on every issue is point to the Republican VP.

She wants to control how all mothers and families deal with "Life happens" issues, and she even wants to make sure that we cannot even protect our own daughters and granddaughters if they are raped, The hypocracy has got to be eating at the women that are wanting to move their social conservative issues forward that Sarah will actually make it next to impossible to get that done. Many may even be a little concerned that if Palin gets into office, that abortion may actually get outlawed, so they themselves that have had those secret abortions for their daughters or themselves won't actually be available the next time! Isn't hypocracy great?

It is becoming increasingly more clear that Obama is the only leader left in this two year presidential nomination process. By the way, why has there been no one on one debates yet? Its a shame when you are so desperate that you have to lie about your opponet to make yourself look better. He should be focusing his time and energy on telling the american people how he is going to fix our issues. The way I see, i don't think McCain has any real plan and that is why he is lashing out at his opponet.

I personally think that you should be fined for launching an ad that is not 100% true. Additionally to a steep fine of at least 1 million dollars, the person who made the false ad should be forced to make a public apology. If the person continues to do lie, then they should not be allowed to continue to campaign for the presidency. This would sent a message to anyone running for office that Americans are tired of being lied to by our most trusted government officials.

Sara Palin has been not been honest about earmarks that she has gotten for her town and state. She is the queen of earmarks. Her people are trying to stonewall an investigation into a possible abuse of her powers. McCain claims to want to clean up Washington. A Washington that he has been a part of. He says that he is against lobbyists but has lobbyists running his campaign. Is this how you spell change? All of a sudden, they are the change candidates. They avoid talking about the issues because their positions on the economy are especially weak. These people are as phony as they come. Add that to McCain's dirty politics, i can't see where they would be good for the country. Y'know I'm sorry to say that I can see a McCain win in November. I badly want to be wrong, but America just can't seem to make what is obviously a clear cut decision. McCain/Palin are shameless, deceitful liars...and it seems a lot of Americans are sucking it up and asking for more.

Sad...

Michelle   September 14th, 2008 5:12 pm ET

Ladies, I continue to be baffled by the cry for equality and the demand to be treated tenderly. It's a contradiction. If a female decides to become a football player, should the team not tackle her as they would any man? Do you think Bobby Rigg held back because Billy Jean King was a woman?
I can only suspect why no one takes the feminist movement seriously. Women want to be treated equally on their terms. For sure, I am all woman, and I still prefer a man open the door for me and pull out my chair. However, I don't cry and whine when such does not occur. Palin called Sen. Clinton a whiner. Now, the Republican Party whines every time someone asks a question of Palin that she is ill prepared to answer. Doing so is not sexism!!! She refers to herself as a barracuda, a pitbull, etc. Well, let her play with the big dogs. It's called equality not sexism.
As long as women think it unfair to asks questions, we will always be treated unfairly.

Jeffer65   September 14th, 2008 5:11 pm ET

Karl Rove would know, wouldn't he.

Free   September 14th, 2008 5:10 pm ET

I do not believe McCain or Palin actually know how to tell the truth anymore. I am undecided and I was leaning towards McCain because he seemed to be more factual and issue oriented. Now McCain seems to be the BIGGEST LIAR. AS A CHRISTIAN, I thought that we were not supposed to LIE. This campaign has been more about spreading lies and it is very sad. I think we are in a sad state when CHRISTIANS continually LIE and even our CHRISTIAN LEADERS LIKE CHRISTIAN LIARS. So a new headline can be 'EVANGELICAL CHRISTIANS SUPPORT LIAR'S'.

WWJD-Jesus is it okay if I intentially and consistently lie to get what I want, even though I am walking in direct contracdiction of your Word?

Larry   September 14th, 2008 5:10 pm ET

Karl Rove cannot be trusted at all

Joe Regis   September 14th, 2008 5:05 pm ET

McCain – P campaign is built on a house of card, it come crumbling down before you know it. Even Rove is dismayed at the blatant naked-lies and the repubs are running on Obama's plans of change and reform as if they are not the party that's been in power for 8 years and brought hard time to the American people.

This is truly unprecedented the way the repubs see fit to lies.

No more repubs this year.

Obama/Biden 08/12.

mitchell   September 14th, 2008 5:05 pm ET

should keep ur trap shut then karl. but, we know mccain/palin are lying to win.

Michelle   September 14th, 2008 5:04 pm ET

Finally, the truth! Thanks Rove for admitting that your buddy, McCan't is a liar. I hate that the Democrats are so soft, but I guess John Lennon said it best, "All that we're saying is give peace a chance." What ever happened to being nice to one another. What's amazing is the United States touts itself as being a "Christian nation," yet I see nothing Christ like in its actions. For sure, church and state are separate, according to the Constitution, but one wouldn't know it, after following the last two Presidental elections. However, I have a remedy for it all. If the church, any church, wants to push its beliefs on the American public, that denomination should pay taxes. I wish George Carlin were around to see and comment on this fiasco.

By the way, the President of Venezula, Hugo Chávez, has decided that Venezula will not do business with the U.S. until there is a change in our government. I don't think he meant switching from Bush to McCain.

Please, someone, check out the issues this raises. You think fuel costs are high now...

Anything that goes thru the congress Dem Rep Joe Sestak said its the democrats fault because their the majority party...when asked it he takes some of the blame he said yes I'm democrat.....I think Obama is getting what he deserves .... look at the lies on top of lies he spread about Sarah Palin

Rachel Wheeler   September 14th, 2008 5:03 pm ET

I don't get it. I had a hard time understanding how Bush was re-elected in 2004, but really thought that Americans finally realized what an awful job he was doing. Now it seems like so many are falling for McCain/Palin. Palin is so right-wing conservative that it's scary and electing them is as bad to me as re-electing Bush. While I respect different views, how can one justfiy that they are change, look at what Greenspan had to say "Economy in a once-in-a-century crisis."

Regarding Rove, he's a huge part of the current problem, why would anyone listen to what he has to say.

facts are facts   September 14th, 2008 5:03 pm ET

Talk outside of the U.S. is that surveys were done and an astonishingly high number of Americans have the reading and writing skills of a grade seven education.

This is supposed to represent a large segment of the population and if at all accurate it would explain why people are so easily fooled by the Republican Party year after year.

This is especially true if you factor in the another large segment of the population (1/3) that have no interest in anything except their religion and having everyone conform to their own perverted views of how a society should operate.

Michigan Voter   September 14th, 2008 5:03 pm ET

When McCain's elected, I'm sure Rove and Cheney will have very high places in his cabinet. When McCain dies or has to resign, they'll be the ones controlling Palin.

Heike, Germany(greetings to all!)   September 14th, 2008 5:03 pm ET

This so called "born again" Christians have know no shame whatsoever! They are in politics and prey on the truely God fearíng ones: I ask what would Jesus say to these people?
Can they convince me to accept Jesus Christ if I didn't previously believe in him? Sarah Palin is supposed to be a Christain "born again" Thou shall not lie – the Bible says, i guess it is acceptable for her to lie to the American people about "The Bridge to no Where" and the plane she presumes to have sold on ebay with profit!
Church leaders are even applauding her so called " reformer" record.
Hey what happened to "pray for your enemies an d bless those who curse you"? – her ex brother in law has a different experience in that department.
What happened to "peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest in righteousness"?

Proactive voter   September 14th, 2008 5:02 pm ET

A pot calling a kettle?
The republicans have destroyed this country beyond repair. They are good in lie and cheap shots but they are driving the country to a point of no return. I don't want my children to go to India or China to get excellent education but that might be the case if we continue to drive this country the same way it was driven for the last eight years. I liked what NYT said today ...."Sorry, but there is no sustainable political/military power without economic power, and talking about one without the other is nonsense. Unless we make America the country most able to innovate, compete and win in the age of globalization, our leverage in the world will continue to slowly erode. Those are the issues this election needs to be about, because that is what the next four years need to be about. "

Bigbubba   September 14th, 2008 5:02 pm ET

I can see this attack dog of the ultra right saying Obama is wrong. He has said that before when Obama was obviously correct. But to say that McCain has gone too far is almost beyond belief. Rove has been saying things for years that are right on the line, and sometimes over, of being slander or libel. His comments about politicians against his candidates have been dispicable and beneath the lowest of all possible denominators. Rove would seemingly have been at home telling everyone the trains are on time and everything good comes from our leader in mid-century Germany.

And John McCain is too dirty for Rove. I huess it is true. You do get the candidates you deserve. Go Republicans.

sarahdoodles   September 14th, 2008 5:01 pm ET

I find this whole election process so sophmoric and sad. The fact that grown adults lie on national television about each other is completely pathetic – what does this all say to the rest of the world about American society – much less our young children whom we admonish never to lie? What's more, a lot of this lying is coming from the party who have won many elections in modern times championing "christian" values. Shame on both sides for utilizing this practice. Thank goodness for FactCheck.org and other non-partisan fact-finding groups. I was quite saddened and dismayed this morning when I heard a member of the Republican Party being quoted regarding his opinions on what he called "the bubba vote". He stated the "bubba vote" are those who will vote against Mr. Obama solely because he is black, and these people will never admit to this in any poll. I hope and sincerely pray that he is untterly wrong.

I am so disappointed in Mr. McCain for pandering to the far right of the Republican party, a group with whom, before he chose Gov. Palin, he had a strained relationship at best. (I am neither a registered dem. nor repub.) Ms. Palin and her extreme conservative views scare the hell out of me (how's that abstinence only thing working out for you?). Mr. McCain insulted my intelligence by obviously thinking that just because he picked a woman he would get my vote. Does he think that would matter to me more than how she feels about a woman's right to control her body (I am the mother of three teen-aged daughters)? Does he think it would matter to me more than how intelligent this person is (you know, you can see Russia from parts of Alaska)? Does he think it would matter to me more than my fear of her extreme religious views? C'mon Mr. McCain, I was educated in these United States, and I am too intelligent to fall for any of your shananigans.

Bill Colorado   September 14th, 2008 5:00 pm ET

Karl Rove is simply attempting a misdirection play. He knows that saying McCain went to far will spur the Dems on to do the same.

Amazing how some Dems actually believe him ......when they have such contempt for him.

Marva L. Dowdin   September 14th, 2008 4:59 pm ET

Your news coverage should be bias and show equal statements, but you have distorted Mr. Obama’s every word. He is the only reason so many people are going to the polls and that is a fact. It is also a fact that he is a smart black man. Sen. McCain was in the White House at that time when Enron and other multi-million dollar companies were dishing out big cash to politicians. Thousands of people lost their jobs, retirement pensions, benefits, and savings. Drugs company executives got kickbacks, bonuses, and raises while working people in this country could not afford their prescription medicines. Our Seniors are eating cat and dog food, not buying their medicine, freezing in the winter because heating bills are too high, our schools, roads and bridges are falling apart, millions of people are without health care, Louisiana is still tore up from Hurricane Katrina, millions have lost their homes due to foreclosure, millions of jobs are lost due to contracts with China, which are making our children sick with the lead paint that is being used on toys; our automobile, chemical, and steel plants are being closed and last food is too high and the gasoline is outrageous; you need to tell it like it is, we are mad, mad, mad; now tell that. Medical doctors are now questioning McCain's medical records. Even Sanjay Gupta seems to think that McCain's melanoma should be questioned for a man of his age. There are far more questions to be answered about McCain's medical records, which shows that he is physically and mentally unfit for the job. Even so, this will also reveal to the people of Arizona how this man duped them into believing he is fit for office.

Follow The 2nd Derivative   September 14th, 2008 4:56 pm ET

In Calculus, the 2nd derivative of an equation represents acceleration. When the sign of acceleration changes, the velocity is about to change.

Rove stating that McCain's ads are UNTRUTHFUL represent his realization that the public is focusing on a lack of HONOR, INTEGRITY & ETHICS from the Republican Party and he's trying to manage the damage before it gets out of hand. Rove is smart enough to watch the 2nd derivative.

You can be sure that if he is criticizing McCain, he's doing so because he thinks it's to the benefit of the Republican Party. Kind of like Palin saying that Obama is "regrettin" not selecting Hillary as VP.

GOP needs to stop trying to manipulate people and present concrete solutions for the country. There is NO THERE .... there.

ginger   September 14th, 2008 4:54 pm ET

Jesse, McCain said, he didn't know to use computers. Obama just used it in an ad. You find the Sen. McCains comments about his inability to use computers on youtube.

James Johannsen   September 14th, 2008 4:53 pm ET

Rove wants to keep himself in the forefront – he should get lost.
Politics is a two way street and both sides have said some "funny duck" things...have they not?
Obama is slamming Palin because she was for the Bridge before she was not – well when the Bridge first came up Palin was not a Governor and when she found out that people did not want it and she was Governor at the time it came up – Anchorage Daily in Feb and Alaskan News in Feb said "Palin put an end to the Bridge to Nowhere". Congress did not cut off the money as Obama says either, as Alaska still received the money and spent this money on infrastructure.
McCain and Paris HIlton and that dumb ad was not funny either. WHO VOTED FOR THE BRIDGE TO NOWHWERE? Obama and Biden even though they were asked to work to send the money to New Orleans for Katrina , and they refused- what do we make of that?
Spinning of the words makes most Americans laugh and a little sick to the stomach when we view many of those ads.
I'm an Indpendent but let's see them slice an dice the words of all four candidates, not just the woman – this is what they did to Hillary who I thought was a good condidate.
Who did NOT vote for the Bridge to NOwhwere? McCain. Who has never had a Pork Barrel (rip off the American people ) project – McCain folks.
Corp. runs America and that stranglehood has to be cut or we will end up being a third world country in 10 yrs.

Since when does Rove know anything about the truth?....I'm sure he is loving the recent Palin-mania..... Think about it..... new window dressing to distract from the same old policies....

This is a joke and an an insult to those people in America that have been suffering as a result of the disasterous policies of the past 7+ years!! The McCain campaign would like us to "PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN". ..... why? .... because Bush's brain is controlling the "show."

AMERICA, DON'T BE FOOLED!! IT'S JUST MORE OF THE SAME...
There's only one way to put an end to the disasterous Bush Policies....

We do't need to REFORM the Bush policies....WE NEED TO "CHANGE" THEM!!!!!!

Larry - Hazleton, pa   September 14th, 2008 4:52 pm ET

I can only wonder as to how far down that Mr McCain will fall – as a Naval Officer he was sworn to truth and honesty – gave his pledge to now allow anyone to lie – cheat or steal – will we all know that he has failed his duty on 2 out of three for sure – he has surly lied and cheated – but by republican standards being perhaps right on 1 out 3 ain't bad. As for his running mate – just more of the same. No one in there right mind would vote for that team.

Did McCain "offend" the almighty Karl Rove by not paying him the agreed fee to get him elected? Did McCain do this by persuading Rove that he can now win without Rove because he now has Palin another 'marverick"?

You know McCain, you dare not cross the line with Karl Rove or you lose. Ask your "silent" partner Bush – he knows Karl Rove.

What Karl rove said is true. McCain's lies are very obvious and the media knows it. The media still refuses to discuss the lies of the McCain-Palin ticket. In fact, Palin yesturday continued to discuss how she stopped the bridge to know where and sold the plane on e-bay. Both of these stories have been debunked. Cnn is not talking about it. It says alot about a team that consisitantly lies. It is ridiculous and shameful that the media does not call them out on it. Second, I don't trust karl rove. If I were the deomcrats, I be careful in quoting Rove. You never know if he is settin up the dems.

Jen   September 14th, 2008 4:48 pm ET

Democrats did not want Hillary as well. Women can see it and we will vote for Palin. Good luck DNC.

John   September 14th, 2008 4:48 pm ET

In the update Mr. Rove wants us all to note that he says Obama's advertisements are as full of un-truth as McCain's.

But his saying that does not make it true. Making one statement about mcCain that IS true, does not un-do Mr. Rove's deserved reputation, it does not make him all the sudden a honorable teller of truth.

That was his point, I think–to undermine his reputation, to make people think for a second that he can be trusted because he states one truth, only so that he can then drag Obama to the McCain level of med.

This is important and I have been following it all along. McCain lies and that is provable. So far Obama has not lied.

Nick   September 14th, 2008 4:48 pm ET

well Karl Rove said that both campaigns went over the top. Why is CNN saying he talked about the McCain campaign alone.
If the media can not report accurately maybe they should just stick to reporting celebrity lifestyles.
Anyhow i don't care how over the top either campaign is because i always check what they put out. I am an Independent voter and i wish i could have had a McCain/ Biden ticket or Biden/McCain ticket. Seriously this is the poorest choices i've got since i've been voting, and the only presidential candidate that i voted for that lost an election was Al Gore 2000 ( and i can argue he still won the popular vote) and i've been voting since 1980.
I'm just not comfortable with Palin nor Obama.
How can Obama outsmart Putin, a former KGB agent. and what if Palin ends up president how is she going to handle that.
The situation there is extra complex we can not go to war there; not that we can't beat them but they would inflict a lot of losses to us before we reach victory there. they have nukes and some very bad weapons even thought our military is the best in the world.
National security matters a lot to me; and this war on terrorism is far from over.
Of course i want a great economy but there is no substitute for national security.
I know doctors that graduated in france and come to work here. So people please stop with the France and Britain comparisons, it is non sense. You don't copy anyone when you are the best and if anyone believe we are not the greatest country just go and spend a year or two in europe and you will never leave this country again.
Hopefully from now until election day i can here more about national security and the economy ( jobs, small businesses, energy) to help make a decision.
Nick from Ottawa

One would expect Rove to say 'Obama is worse'. The idiots who say 'Who cares', or "But he says Obama is worse" are beyond stupid. You must be part of the 'below 100 IQ' club.

Roxanne   September 14th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

I think people are beginning to see through McCain and Palin's lies and ads. If they are lying now, imagine what will happen once they are elected.

In response to the person who said "find leadership in Palin". I say, Thanks, but no thanks. Palin is against everything I believe in. She doesn't believe women have the right to choose even in the case of rape, and she cut funding for special needs children in Alaska before her son was born and McCain does not believe in equal pay for equal work for women. Why on earth would I cast my vote saying I believe in this 18th century way of thinking?

What are their plans for the economy? What are they doing for health care? McCain couldn't even get coverage under his own health care proposal with is medical history. Since they don't have issues to run on, they lie even more about Obama.

Michael   September 14th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

Obama has had selective hearing the whole campaign and runs adds that lie about what McCain and Palin say.
When Rove points out both sides are running ads that go too far Obama once again has selective hearing and says only McCain is doing it. That sets Obama's sleaze level to one lower than the one he accuses McCain of having.
As far as I'm concerned, as long as they both run these kinds of ads, they cancel each other out. No one gets points for taking the high road, so the ads become nothing more than anoying.

Reena   September 14th, 2008 4:46 pm ET

However, he has place his bet (all of none) that white women just want get it; until it too late. I don't believe this will work because they know better than him how the power of fear, envy and dishonest work. Media fight back this is your country too. I didn't want to cut off half the interview and put only the first half of the quote. That would put me in the style of the Republicans. While he does take a dig at Obama in the second half, saying this is what I think he is saying, he does say in the first half that he thinks he is an honest man. You need to make your own judgments about what you think he is saying.

The media network executives decided that McCain should be the next President and that's how it will end. No amount of outrage by the average Americans will stop this. As long as the media is owned by corporations, we will continue to see Republicans in the white house. It's time people start controlling the airwaves instead of few owners.

Interview quote in Time with Bill O'Reilly concerning Barak Obama:

Did your interview with Barack Obama change your opinion of him? Edward Pniewski LANSING, MICH.

I don't endorse candidates, and I don't tell people who to vote for, but I learned something about him: that he's a sincere man and a tough guy. His policy is what he says it is. He's no phony. He's telling you: I'm going to set up a big government apparatus, I'm going to redistribute income and I'm going to use more soft power than hard power abroad. What he says is what he believes.

Jon   September 14th, 2008 4:42 pm ET

Why not have a campaign debate. Have both parties tickets on the same stage at the same time. Obama & Biden against McCain & Palin. See which is the strongest all around ticket instead of taking swipes at one at a time.

Melody   September 14th, 2008 4:42 pm ET

whatever, he only admitted the fact that McCain's ads have been a "little off base" so he could put a jab in at Obama's ads too. as if they're anything similar at all.... he's making it seem like he's coming out and saying something against McCain, but he's really just trying to downplay how atrocious his campaign ad lies are by linking Obama to those sorts of tactics as well. "Oh! But everyone does this!"

McCain's ads are vicious lies. Obama's actually stick to the truth because the truth about McCain-Palin is horrific and speaks for itself!

I just don't know what to make of this. It's true though, McCain has sunk to new lows – all from the guy who had said he would run an honorable campaign. McCain would rather loose his integrity than loose an election.

Mike Mc   September 14th, 2008 4:41 pm ET

Factcheck.org has set the record straight with its non partisan review of all campaign ads. McCain has crossed the line because hes desperate.

McCains untruthful sleazy ads outnumber Obamas by at least 4 to 1. Take that to the bank,

pete   September 14th, 2008 4:40 pm ET

Who cares. It's working and Obama is on the way down for the count.

McCain/Palin 08′

you are too stupid and ignorant to live, typical republican though.

Andy   September 14th, 2008 4:40 pm ET

As Dennis Kucinich pleaded at the convention: Wake up America! The media is playing into the hands of the McCain campaign, which is in turn being run by lobbyists from, among other places, the media industry. Is it any wonder it's so hard to elect someone like Obama who, by and large, tells the straight truth? The news media is ignoring the fact that A) McCain doesn't know Sunni from Shia, B) he doesn't know anything about the economy (by his own admission), C) McCain has lobbyists running his campaign, D) Sarah Palin has lied pathologically about her record on everything from foreign travel experience to the bridge to nowhere, E) McCain has illegally used federal funds for his primary campaign, in which he also took advantage of his wife's private jet for free, which is against federal funding rules, F) McCain's VP choice doesn't know the different between 'sight' ("I can see Russia") and _insight_, which is what she was asked about by Charlie Gibson, G) every McCain campaign ad released since the celebrity ad has been a fabric of lies designed to distract voters from the issues that matter.

BS   September 14th, 2008 4:39 pm ET

I think some people are attracted to a Palin ticket because they are hurting in the current Bush economy and want their pain to end now.
I think those people will be disappointed and disillusioned.

Many of the Republicans stike me as angry people (Rudy G, Tom Delay).

Hopefully, McCain,72, will retire now.

Veteran for OB   September 14th, 2008 4:39 pm ET

McCain's lead is down to 1%. He's on the way down. Didn't get much of a bump after the RNC, and he's starting to lose what he gained.

Palin is a non factor.

Headline should read, "McCain is losing his lead." Not McCain's lead increasing. That's a flat out lie.

This time he will lose his lead for good.

As for the Evangelical Republican Conservatives: I'm Christian. I don't agree with abortion. And I am NOT a Republican. Why? There's much more to it than one or two issues, unless you're a simpleton. How about looking at the behind the scenes death, destruction, lies, and corruption. All equally morally wrong.

Republican Evangelical = Pharisee = Hypocrite

I'm not down with you Republican Pharisees. You guys are plastic Christians. Fake as fake flowers.

Karl Rove has been advising the Swift Boat veterans on how to slime Obama and now he's shocked; SHOCKED! to find people are noticing!

Just say no to Bush III.

sam ca   September 14th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Unbelievable!!! Even the Republican idol Karl Rove says that
McCain is runnning lying ads. McCain/Palin is the sleaziest, most dishonest campaign in history. He picks a lying hypocrite for his running mate, and runs the sleaziest ads ever seen, even putting little children at risk from sexual predators. Not what I want too see in my President.
McCain Presidential? NOT!!!

Jen, Gainesville   September 14th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Rove is stirring the water to make it as if it is dirty on either side. The truth is that the McCain side is murky and dirty and the Obama side is fairly clean. Rove is manipulating the American public as he always does. These people (Rove, Bush, McCain, and Palin) have no shame and no integrity.

Bill   September 14th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Funniest thing. I dropped over to Fox and read the post for myself. Rove has the same criticism of the Obamies but, apparently, CNN chose to ignore that part. Imagine that! Oh, well, can't expect CNN to change its nature at this point but it would be good if you'd wipe off the saliva before posting such slanted "articles".

Belle2   September 14th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Did anyone read the article. Rove said McCain went too far and Obama's ads were worse than McCain's. Maybe that is just the blind faith of the Obama fans. They see what they want to see and nothing else.

Jim Freeh   September 14th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Vote Repuglican, the party of repugnant politics!

Robbie   September 14th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Gee Wiz, why is Rove telling the truth now? Has McCain gotten too sleazy... EVEN for Rove's "standards?" Wow!

Cam   September 14th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

You know, the more I think about it the more I think McCain and Palin are right about changing Washington........of course if you had asked me 6 months ago I would have told you that there was no way things could get worse than they have been under Bush.......well, I guess I was wrong because if McCain and Palin get in they will change it for the worse!

I saw the CNN shows on Palin and Biden last night and all I can say is the choice should be pretty obvious. Palin has more questionable abuses of power in less than two years than Biden has in 36 years.......WOW. Say what you want about him being a Washington insider. He has character.....

Ron, NYC   September 14th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Rove engineers lies against Obama, spreads them and now says they are not 100% true. What a scumbag? Can Rep. Conyers throw this scoundrel in jail?

Priscilla   September 14th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

Most of McCain's ads are lies. He's no maverick. He's an old, out-of-touch politician who will do anything for a vote. I bet he stinks too!

ROB--Scranton, PA   September 14th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

Because the media usually does not report positive commendable issues, then I would just like to tell everyone who does care about their country some very commendable points from Sen. Obama, not the disgraceful citizen who is proving that he is more of the same corrupt Wash. that will keep the cronies of the GOP rich and the rest of us poor, yeah McCain/Palin, the disrespectful ticket.
Obama has:
-Cancelled his SNL appearance in respect for the Gulf victims of Ike
-Has been very respectful of Ms. Palin by not attacking her, saying her daughter is off-limits & Obama supporters should not speak of the personal issue.
-Has not attacked McCain on any of his personal issues such as POW, his womanizing of Cindy & previous wife, or health or age.
-Has always stuck to the issues of the country, not any "shiny metal" objects. He consistently speaks of issues that effect us, the people, economy, gas prices, education, mortgage crisis, etc.
So please citizens of this great country, you only will hear negative politics reported, not the positives, b/c negative creates ratings. When has McCain or Palin last spoke on any of our issues and how they will help us solve them? I don't know that answer, do you? They are running very negative & untruthful campaign ever. Not once pointing out who they are & what theyll do, but instead making false claims about Obama. Please see the positives, not the negatives. Also, have you noticed that Bush is all of a sudden doing everything Sen. Obama has been saying he is going to do? Pulling out of Iraq, surging Afghanistan, going after Bin Laden, & trying now to get our economy back. It kind of says, hmmm, he's right, why didnt I think of that in the past 7 yrs? See Obama for who he really is, not what McCain/Palin say he is, they are proving who they are. People who slander and degrade fellow citizens of this country. This isn't politics, this is cheat, lie, degrade, personally attack, whatever it takes to win tactics from the GOP ticket. I am not an affiliate of either party, I am an Obama supporter because I see the truth. I hope we all do. He is a true, honorable leader, and is all about our issues not just winning.

Susan   September 14th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

So it seems even Karl Rove has a hint of integrity left – at least more so than we have recently seen from McCain/Palin who have become, hard-core liars stubbornly repeating lies that have been declared as such by national news organizations after careful examination (bridge to nowhere, earmarks to name but a few). It frightens me to see this level of lies during the campaign because somebody who shows this behavior now is going to carry it straight into their administration – if elected!!!
It horrifies me that words have become meaningless but I really hope that some standards can be restored with the help of news agencies such as CNN. As a regular viewer of CNN, I appreciated last weeks comments by J. Toobin who said that journalists' work is bring out facts – regardless of whose side you are on!! I am getting increasingly worried though how this is going to be done in a world where facts seem to matter much less than lies – Please help restore Democracy and the fact that words DO mean something!

Rebecca - Michigan   September 14th, 2008 4:33 pm ET

For those of you Evanagelicals who are voting for McCain just because of Palin I can tell you right now Jesus would be outraged with the type of sleaze and lie campaign they are running and would suggest otherwise.

Rebecca - Michigan   September 14th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

This just proves how many ignorant and naive Americans live in this great country. They are so willing to just except McCain and Palin's lies as fact without really checking. And then they actually are falling for the McCON camps accusations of sexism and now ageism. The media has been very tough on Obama for over a year and now that they are finally digging up some new info on McCain and Palin they cry foul. What HYPOCRITES.

Rob   September 14th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

This is a sad day. If McCain really wants to unite the country why not reject the racist Americans that are voting for him simply because Obama is black. Obama has spoke against Americans voting for him because of his race. By the way, Obama's mother is white.

Why is the race close. Lets get real.

I am in Utah, spoke to my brother in Tennessee. He is a union member and said his fellow members were not voting for Obama even though the Republicans have done everything to break unions, and stated it was because Obama is black.

We have a long way to go, excuse me, a while yet to wait for the racist purveyers of the politics of the past to die off.

Jim, chicago, so I guess it is ok with you if Palin/McCain lie to get elected, more of the same right Jim. You people just don't get it, do you!!!Silly,Silly Jim!!!

Mike   September 14th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

How ironic that Karl Rove would criticize both campaigns for the very type of tactics of which he is the master. The cynicism embodied by attempting to coopt the mantle of change and in the choice of Palin is startling. People like Jim appear to dismiss such political tactics as acceptable because they are effective, rather than deplore them as misleading at best and lying at worse. Rove and others take advantage of the willingness of the electorate to be shaped by imagemakers, rather than become informed. Anticipating that the press would be appropriately critical of Palin, a preemptive strike was called for such that the media's investigation would be called sexist, a witchhunt, and elite. Similarly, by divisively polarizing the election by making it about "values, character, God, and country" they resourcefully divert attention form the real issues of judgment and the economy, the issues that so favor the Democrats. Such cynicism has worked before, so they do it again.

bobbyfoxblog   September 14th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

"Former Republican"...you are a true American!

Joneswq   September 14th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

If the McCain camp will lie to the American people during the campaign, what do you think he will do when he is in office? It would seem to me that America learned her lesson with the current administration; did not they speak of changing Washington, doing the will of the American people, honesty and character? Furthermore, the way in which you campaign is the way in which he will run the government. Where is the honor or the good Christian value McCain talks so often about, the way in which he is running his campaign has nothing to do with Country First, it is all about McCain first, forget the American people and their right to know the truth. The man is a dishonorable liar, and if elected he will still be one, and America would be a fool to put him in office. The way, in which you practice is the way you play, if he will lie now, he has and will lie in office. McCain behavior in running his campaign gives us insight into the character of his administration, and it portrays a sad future for America under a McCain administration.

You shall not steal (hummmmmm....tie, probably)
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor (Obama – McSame has lied so much lately he has shown he will say ANYTHING to get elected, including, "Sarah sold that plane on eBay." NO SHE DIDN"T. If Sarah can fool you, John, you don't deserve to represent the entire country)
You shall not covet your neighbor's house (Obama – by EIGHT Houses)
You shall not covet your neighbor's wife (DUUUUUHHHHHH! Obama)

RA Crouch, Michigan   September 14th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

The sad part of this election is we can demonstrate conclusively that McCain cannot tell the truth and some people will still vote for him.

Is this is what the Christian Conservatives want? Lies.

I am going for the integrity ticket.

pam Eugene OR   September 14th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

What's up with Rove? I am astounded. Possibly the Repugs have conceded this election and have decided to start over in 2012 with better candidates! They sure have losers this time.
Obama/Biden

Montana Independent   September 14th, 2008 4:29 pm ET

1. McCain's lies seem to be working to a small extent.
2. When will Americans wake up and stop believing lies?
3. When will women realize they are being lied to and manipulated?
4. Those people who willingly vote for McCain/Palin and say Clinton 2012 deserve what they get. With McCain/Palin there may not be a 2012 in which to elect Hillary.
5. The Republicans are NOT making history by nominating a woman VP. The Democrats did that in the 1980s with Geraldine Ferraro.
6. What short and selective memories some people have.
7. If we, as a nation, elect McCain/Palin, we will be much worse off than we are now, economically, socially, internationally.

Stupid people get what stupid people deserve.

Obama runs an ad that insults 30 million older people. Who cares about the truth. The Obama campaign is destroying our party.

redwhiteblue   September 14th, 2008 4:28 pm ET

Obama is drawing the biggest crowds, drawing in the most money, making the most sense, trying to talk issues and McCain is ahead in the polls?I do not believe it. There is something very wrong here.
When Obama went overseas, he looked and acted presidential, and was received with respect, and the foreign people stated they were hoping for an Obama win. No bump in the polls. Obama bringing in the huge crowds and setting records for the money sent in, no bump. The fantastic convention should have boosted his ratings way up. Nothing. Choosing the popular Joe Biden and no bump. Are all these new people that are registering as Democrats going to vote Republican? Not likely!
The American people are going to miss the opportunity of curing this country of the Bush and the Republican led congress disasters. Obama is a highly intelligent man and has as his running mate a man who could step into the presidency if that became necessary.
I have been thinking for quite awhile that something is very wrong here. I believe they are again about to steal the election. Why are we always so helpless in stopping them?

Maybe it's a reverse psychology thing? Maybe Rove is banking on the fact that McCain supporters don't trust him and will think that what he's saying about the ads is a lie when in fact it's the truth?

Caribou Barbie is adding to the Lie-O-Meter every day now.

It's pretty hard to go so far as to get this kind of reaction out of Karl Rove! Better get out your ice skates, hell may have just frozen over.

But kudos to him for saying what the press is finally waking up to and starting to report on: the continuous stream of distortions, half-truths, and outright lies from the McCain campaign.

Jen B   September 14th, 2008 4:03 pm ET

Karl Rove is not worthy of anyone's respect, but I agree with him this time. John McCain is running a dishonorable campaign, full of lies and innuendo. He is not to be trusted. His irresponsible choice of running mate tells us that country does not come first.

Michael Roden   September 14th, 2008 3:58 pm ET

Rove is just trying to make himself look like a good guy by pretending that he is giving out free, bipartisan advice. That way the Democrat's argument that McCain is using Karl Rove campaign tactics will not hold as much sway in the next 7 weeks. He is a very smart, evil genius.

David   September 14th, 2008 3:58 pm ET

Both Obama and McCain are guilty of dishonest ads. There should be a monitoring system in place for ads from the campaigns so they get verified before they can run on tv or the internet.

The Nightingale Sings in Berkley Square   September 14th, 2008 3:58 pm ET

Rove has it right. Obama is the new King of Sleaze. He really hit bottom yesterday when he said he would give a tax cut to 95% of Americans.

The Liberals i.e democrats at their convention were more respectfull of Mccain, thier campaign is based on truth not Lies. Policy positions not personalities. What a shame- Conservatives-thats the way to retain power through lies and slander. WAKE UP AMMERICA!!!

Sheila   September 14th, 2008 3:52 pm ET

McCain made the lipstick on a pig comment when discussing Hilary Clinton's policies way before Obama even used the expression. How hypocritical to try to use this now in an ad against Obama. McCain was honorable but his actions now are not.

I can't even understand how the americans people cannot even see what is going on about Palin/Maccain. Now , we can say that, Palin/Maccain , not anymore Maccain/Palin. It seems to be that is Palin who will be the commander in Chief. Franckly, I think it over for both of them. They need to show their really face about what they think about the future. You guys, did watch the View ? what do you think about that point, Palin for change to the white house !! how could that happen ! the point is, at the white house, they are not doing anything ! and you can understand what is it about. the fact is change equal Obama+Biden. What about Maccain, he could be a nice person, but he just missed his turn ! we cannot anymore stand a 4 years in that way !

I've also heard Mcain supporters say that if a woman is raped, she should sit back and enjoys, or others that have condemned Catholics with hatred. The difference is, I don't think that these are McCains positions. They are worse than anything Rev. Wright has said. And I don't think Rev. Wright statements are Obama's positions either. But of course, how else could the Republicans distract the public without trying to equate the two.

Carl J   September 14th, 2008 3:48 pm ET

Whats sad is these ads work, because the majority of Americans are sheep – they'll swallow anything they're fed or they're one-issue voters.

Picking the President should be one of the toughest and most researched decisions you make.

And yet I haven't seen anyone be able to cogently explain why a McCain administration, surrounded by some of the same Republican leadership as the last 8 years, can effectively put us back on course. McCain's a prominent senator, how come he couldn't change Washington beforehand?
McCain knows about winning wars, how come he couldnt help us win this war sooner?

If McCain wins because of sleazy ads and a voluntarily uninformed public eats them up – then we all deserve the government we're going to get.

Mario   September 14th, 2008 3:47 pm ET

Although I'm wondering about Rove's intentions, I must admit the Republicans seem to be running campaign ads that offer up more lies than the Democrats. All we're getting are sound bytes taken out of context and no longer resemble the truth by the time they make it to air. And McCain says he supports this message!

I know for a fact, these two cannot run the US of A, and if attempted will make it plunge into total darkness whereby the entire world will have their nuclear arsenal pointed towards us. The world is angry at the current administration for making grave errors with Iraq, and another 100 years in Iraq according to cowboy McCain, we will be drained of our financial resources all the while the people of the US of A suffer with a failing health system, crime, housing foreclosures, economic downfall and other problems not addressed by this lousy current administration.

How all of you Obama supporters jump on this but you failed to mention that Rove also said that Obama's were worse. Like Obama hasn't lied a time or two. Does anyone really believe that he sat in his church for twenty years and did hear the smears from his Rev. Wright.
He exposed his children to that kind of garbage and Michelle did nothing but spew hatred of whites in her Princeton Thesis. Don't you find it interesting that the Obama's did not want to release her thesis until the day after the election. Are they ashamed of her thesis or just afraid of the content.

Rove, you brought us the Iraq war. You think Americans are stupid, that's why you play it to the lowest common denominator. I lay the blame for the mess we're in squarly at your feet.

whitman   September 14th, 2008 3:39 pm ET

Don't trust Karl Rove either. One liar calling out another liar. It just has to be disheartening to a republican with intellect and knowledge of the issues and know he/she must support this ticket based on party affiliation and narrow minded strong headed loyalty. The republican platform is purely based on holding on to power. That's ALL it's about. Not this country issues and future but pure power. This country was founded on the very principles that state the contrary. If you are a republican supporting this ticket, deep down in your gut, you know this. This repub. ticket is not about helping the country and getting going in the right direction but about making sure they keep the White House for their own personal gains.

Jesse from Maryland   September 14th, 2008 3:39 pm ET

Obama has his truth problems as well, let's be fair about this. And Obama's ad about McCain's problems with computers (stemming not from lack of intelligence or experience, but from his war injuries) are just the same.

I think both candidates should focus on the issues instead of these silly sideshows.

All for Palin   September 14th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

Palin for truth. Who cares about the "Pant suit" Hillary followers. You got enough from Obama camp. Find your leader in Palin. She is real and all for the women. Vote Palin to office and make our voice heard. Moderate women, follow Palin for the better good of this country.

Chrsitne   September 14th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

Ditto! Who cares?! All you narrowminded Obama supporters only see your own side of the story. Your own candidate is a liar and a flip flopper of the worst kind and he has made some rather sexist hateful remarks of his own. Anybody remember Hillary? Well, now he needs her doesn't he? Just because the wimpy news media is afraid to call the community organizer or should we say "Jesus" down on anything doesn't mean he tells the truth and isn't just as much a manipulative "politician" as the rest of them. By the way, what was that saying!?! If you put lipstick on a pig it's still a pig. Well it works both ways doesn't it? it's just sour grapes time because Obama is slipping in the polls. It is what it is!

Fact Check: The title of your article is deceptive, singling out McCain. Read the transcript – Rove criticized both campaigns.

Gee, Alabama   September 14th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

The republicans have now been caught so many times in telling 'little white lies' and half truths that it is impossible to tell what's real anymore. I wonder how many republicans are publicly professing support and towing the party line while crinching on the thought where there party leadership has taken them.

Roslyn   September 14th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

McCain will use anything to try to accomplish his agenda and that is why he is using Sarah Palin. She is such an idiot. She can't see herself being used by McCain. When he lose the campaign, he is going to blame it on her. This is called the Rattlesnake and the Boa campaign all twisted in the Carl Rove snakehole.

arlene, CA   September 14th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

I just do not trust Carl Rove, He does not want to help Obama. There must be some alternative reason why Rove is saying this. I heard it may have some legal ramifications if you knowing put out lies about someone even in this campaign. We know there are lies in the ads against Obama. Rove should be held accountable for his lies, he is getting away with criminal actions. He thinks he is above the law. He belongs in jail.

tim   September 14th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

it wont get know play because the media dont report anything negative about the mccain camp,i have never seen anything like this in years, this media should be ashame of themselves,i will never watch anymore news programs until they start reporting the truth,it makes me sick to even turn on any news outlets, all they reported lastweek was about lipstick on a pig, when our country is facing the biggest economic crises in our history

Kent, Illinois   September 14th, 2008 3:35 pm ET

I think it would of been interesting to see Rove's ability in helping the DEMOCRATS win. The Dems are too nice all the time. They have great candidates many years and people like Rove are able to figure out ways to win against them. Rove could prove he is the great master of politics if he would walk out of the dark side and head to the light. Help the Dems Rove..........show them how to win. Show them how to fight fire with fire................that alone would be the story of the year..............

Wow, you know you're full of it when one of the most infamously deceptive people ON YOUR OWN SIDE is questioning your honesty. I wonder if Rove is just trying to soften the blow to McCain now that the dishonesty of his ads is getting some media attention... i.e. tell something that's 10% true, then tell people "well it's not quite 100% true" in an attempt to get people to accept it as maybe 90% true instead of 10%.

anyonmous   September 14th, 2008 3:31 pm ET

Do the women out there believe it is OK to hide Palin from tough interviews. Don't they think that a woman is strong enough to stand on her own two feet. And don't tell me Obama hasn't done tough interviews. He's st down with O'Reilly of the Fox (Republican) Network. He's not afraid to tlk about the issues. the Republicans are playin the media like a fiddle. they are helping to keep the campaign off the true issues. How is this the liberal media.

McCain/ Palin '08....NOT!!! these people are not ready, never will be! Let me ask you this, if the investment company you have your stocks in decided to allow someone to handle your portfolio who has the same educational background as Sarah Palin instead of the educational background of Barack Obama, I'm willing to guess that you wouldnt be so quick to accept that as you are now quick to accept Sarah Palin in the 2nd most powerful job in the world. Let me ask you this, whene was the last time you have offered your services pro bono to help a hungry family, or help out at the shelter or help the elderly with a need they have?? Majority of republicans have not nor do not bother themselves, they fill its someone elses job or responsility to help out. I dare say that you fall into that majority of "selfish, me and only me " generation. Yes true, Obama visions are out of the sixties BUT that was a time when america was growing working with each other. You on the otherhand are stuck in the 80's where the "greed is good" doctaraine prevails. The slogan works well "we cant take another 4 years of the same old thing.

Tom in Delaware   September 14th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

In addition to his regrets about not picking Hillary to be his running mate (Biden...Change you can believe in...even HE said so...jeez.), Obama is now feeling the sting of losing his 'New Kid on the Block' appeal to Sarah Palin.

If issues were so important to Barack, then why did he fail to keep his commitment to 10 Town Hall meetings across the United States?

Answer- He can't afford to draw contrasts with John McCain, which is why the Saddleback Forum changed the direction of this election.

I can't wait til the debates when the Democrats break all the records for sticking their feet in their mouths, cause you guys have got two of the best stammering bufoons of all time. (sans teleprompter)

BTW- You don't dare hear any Democrats willing to be objective about their own party...do you. Congrats Karl, for being fair and open-minded.

Norah (Boston, MA)   September 14th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Some might say that the McCain camp has sunk to new lows if Rove is criticizing the "truth" of the ads. We know however that McCain has lost all credibility- all sense of honor, in his avaricious desire to be President.
While I never really liked him, I was always willing to give him the benefit of a doubt because of his POW status- something that he never gave the families of the missing POWs. But no more- this guy is shameless.

If you truly took the time to research and study the specifics about this election and the issues facing our country – I doubt you would be saying "Who cares". I take it you are either a true Republican that really doesn't care about the issues as long as your party is elected – then you'll be the first to complain about how messed up this country is – or you just so Un-informed about what issues are facing our country.

I am tired of hearing about sexism. I am a woman voter and I know that some questions about family and ability to work should not be the issue, but remember when we asked Sen. Edwards if he was planning to continue his campaign when his wife was diagnosed with cancer? No one said that was inappropriate then. These are legitimate questions but should be phrased carefully when it comes to women, but enough is enough about shielding her. This is a strategy from the McCain campaign to stop the media from asking the real questions about Palin's qualifications. She will be a heartbeat away from the presidency, let the media do the vetting that McCain never did.

For example, look how their ad is dishonest about how the word pretty became sexist.

Why dosn't anyone draw attention to those buttons that the men delegates at the RNC Convention were wearing stating that Palin is "hot" and other sexist remarks. Biden pointed out that Palin is prettier than him when he was asked, but he said it in the spirit of the moment and without any disrespect. He was actually joking and denigrating his looks I wish Fox = Fair and Balanced, would get their hands on some of these clips during the RNC convention and would show these delegates with their comments and their buttons how Palin is a looker, hot, etc...

Please combat this false sexism charge that the McCain campaign is falsely spreading about Obama and show who is really being disrespectful. Whoever read this, please spread the word so that the media can scrutinize McCain instead of just perpetuating the negative and false ads from McCain without a counter punch. The media are playing into his hands.

Outsider   September 14th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

It is not even close to 1 percent truth. I have not seen where Obama was disrespectful of Palin. If deception is how you are going to be elected president of the great nation in the world–the USA, then how is it different from vote rigging? Oh, my God. There is virtually no healthy politics.

Kjetil   September 14th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

I wonder. Can John McCain ever tell the truth? So far most of the stuff they say about theyr reccord or politics are lie. Do people want a truthteller or a lier in the with house? I want the first. So sorry John McCain, then your not even an option.

My High School aged son said it best. He said that since this comment came from a sleazy Republican politician ," I guess this makes McCain THE SLEAZIEST REPUBLICAN POLITICIAN EVER."

i told him perhaps, but there are many to choose from in the Republican party.

By they way, I think that McCain supporters would benefit from a prescription for Ritalin. Because they obviously are not paying attention to the facts.

Shelly   September 14th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

It continues to amaze me that the Republican “win at all cost” mentality is so blatant in the McCain / Palin ticket, yet their supporters continue to defend their tactics. Jim from Chicago appears to be the rule rather than the exception. Wake up America – vote for decency and statesmanship. The John McCain of old seemed to stand for these two fundamentally American attributes. It seems he is now just hell-bent on finally achieving his goal of the Presidency that he has lost all credibility and scruples. Sad.

Obama/ Biden – for America!

Brandon   September 14th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

Most of us have known most of McCain's ads have been full of crap for a while, we don't need Rove to tell us that - this is only helpful for those clowns out there that don't know how to research anything on their own. Fact check people! You HAVE TO FACT CHECK. I guarantee anyone who goes out and does some fact checking of their own on any policies, will drop McCain and especially Palin within hours.

It is so amazing that so many people can so blindly follow McCain and Palin even when they know that the two will continue the famous failed George Bush policies. What is gonna take for people to see the lies that Palin and the republicans are perpetrating. Does telling the truth by politicians matter any more in this country? well, hopefully people educate themselves about what these politicians records are and what their policies will do to you the individual voter. DON'T JUST FOLLOW BLINDLY AS THOUGH HYPNOTIZED.

Andrew   September 14th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

THIS IS DISGUSTING. WHAT HAPPENED TO INTEGRITY, TO HONOR? IF THEY LIE LIKE THIS DURING THE CAMPAIGN, HOW CAN WE EXPECT THEM TO BE TRUTHFUL IF THEY ARE ELECTED?

Tim   September 14th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

WOW. McCain's campaign ads must really be bad.

If the king of sleazy political ads and current McCain consultant, Karl Rove, says it's lies – then it must be lies.

Wake up America or we'll be stuck with a liar and a know-nothing neophyte in the White House in 2009.

Dorrie   September 14th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

This is why we need to be really nervous–and very vigilant (from an online site):

Nazi propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels was the master of the “big lie” tactic in which a lie, no matter how outrageous, is repeated often enough that it will eventually be accepted as truth. Goebbels explained:

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

Given Mr. Rove's diabolical brilliance–I'm not so sure how to interpret his statements.

I do know, however, that a campaign that distorts as much as this one does is very dangerous. The question: how can we as citizens make sure that the media–the 4th estate–is acting responsibly to alert us to these reprehensible tactics?

james in mi.   September 14th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

its a sad time in the u.s.a when people can't see the real obama everyone is looking for change because the country is in the worse shape it has ever been in but if you are looking for change with obama you are looking in the wrong place

Constance Carruthers   September 14th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

It is not just in misrepresentation that they have gone too far.
I'm seeing–but not believing–ads that seem to come from the McCain camp that appear to me to be covertly racist. One in particular shows a picture of Obama (a black man) with the voice-over or text suggesting that he has some kind of a weird obsession with Sarah Palin (in his head) and wants to destroy her. Given the obscene and terrifying history of injustice towards African American men, where fear and hatred were whipped up because "they" harbored evil intentions towards white women, this is dangerous and disgusting. Surely John McCain does not want his record tarnished with these tactics.

David from Atlanta   September 14th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

its simply sad that McCain has lowered himself to this level
Rove may have torn Kerry and Gore apart, but those issues were true, and quite embarressing

but now McCain has just been lying about Obama in his ads, and it will catch up to him, I garuntee give it till the end of the month and Obama will be leading in the polls, McCain has not capitalized on his bounce, more and more is being revealed about Palin andits a Palin-McCain ticket, not a McCain-Palin ticket

SOMEONE NEEDS TO CALL JOHN MCCAIN OUT ON THIS EXCUSE FOR NOT USING A COMPUTER!

THE EXCUSE THAT HE CAN'T LIFT HIS SHOULDERS IS RIDICULOUS! DO YOU USE YOUR SHOULDERS TO TYPE? NO! IF YOU HAVE AN ISSUE YOU CAN HAVE A TRAY THAT COMES OUT OVER YOUR LAP WITH KEYBOARD AND MOUSE ON IT! YOU CAN EVEN PUT A LAPTOP ON YOUR LAP.

YOU USE YOUR WRISTS AND FINGERS TO TYPE AND USE THE MOUSE!

I KNOW PEOPLE THAT ARE PARALYZED FROM THE NECK DOWN THAT CAN'T USE/MOVE THEIR ARMS, AND HAVE NO PROBLEM USING A COMPUTER DAILY! THERE IS ADAPTIVE EQUIPMENT IF THERE REALLY IS AN ISSUE!

STOP USING BEING A P.O.W. AS AN EXCUSE FOR EVERYTHING! IT'S GETTING OLD!

USING A COMPUTER REQUIRES, FINGERS, WRISTS AND ELBOW.

WHEN I SEE PEOPLE WHO ARE PARALYZED AND CANNOT WALK OR USE THEIR FINGERS/ARMS USING A COMPUTER JUST FINE WITHOUT ANY EXCUSES OR COMPLANING, AND THEN SEE THIS OLD MAN MILKING HIS P.O.W.NESS FOR EVERY EXCUSE IN THE BOOK, IT BOILS MY BLOOD!

Charlie in Maine   September 14th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

I have long been of the beleif that John MCaine was at least 10% better than George W Bush. On the issues maybe but as far as lying in the campaign goes alas he is not. They have offended the sensiblities of Karl Rove. Wow I did not think that the was a bottom to that pit but I like to admit when I am wrong and I was. Being called too far negative is a little like having Richard Nixon question your honesty..

carolflowery   September 14th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

the democrats have lied too in ads, so has cnn, or at least cnn has allowed rumors about Palin to thrive, Obama is not the person to lead this country, period, he's too liberal, he's too stuck on his own agenda, and if you think have Hamas and Iranian President hoping he will win, you better ask yourselves one simple question.
WHY?

is he gonna talk them out of bombing and killing innocent civilians, i think not, is he gonna talk them into giving their women equal rights, i think not

Ron from Baltimore   September 14th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

Karl Rove was a student of Lee Atwater, the official originator of these sleazy tactics. He worked for Bush 41, W's dad, before working for W himself. Atwater was responsible for the "Willy Horton" ads that devasted the losing Dukakis campaign.

Atwater died in 1991, still young. Most people still around recognize the Atwater Doctrine in the later-coming Rove, and Rove learned from his master's mistakes. You have to hand it to these guys-do whatever it takes to win, deny it even if they have pictures and video, and then do what you want once in office. Use the same tactics (a la Iraq misrepresentation), ruin whatever reputations (e.g., Colin Powell), pay whatever price you have to (Iraq, our first trillion-dollar war) to get your own way, and never apologize.

Congratulations, Karl, for speaking up sooner than Atwater did. He didn't "confess" his own sins until he was literally on his deathbed. Many experts say that was only a sham confession anyway, meant to take whatever heat had risen over the brutal tactics, deflecting attention away from the White House and Republican Party.

Karl, I hope your family is proud of you and that you are proud of your friends.

susie   September 14th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

McCain needs to do an ad on how Obama vowed to filibuster FISA-and then voted for it.

No to McCan't / Painful   September 14th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

Who cares? Most of America does, Jim! You are an idiot! McCan't and Painful will be worse than the current administration. It's absolutely amazing that people are falling for the McCan't theme of "Change". IT is quite obvious that there is still A LOT of racism in this country. There is no way that our country is ready for a black president. We will be the laughing stock of the world if McCan't is elected.

With two months to go, I am hopeful that the American voter isn't swayed by the dishonest political ads by the McCan't camp. We can not let him in the white house.

Matt MC   September 14th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

Comment for Jim in Chicago,

Your comments proves what is wrong with this country...no one is interested in facts, issues, or truth anymore, so long as your candidate wins, anything goes. Just so you know, when you put people like that in power that is how they will treat you...anything goes, ts if you lost your job, ts if you're not making more than $250k per year, ts if a hurricane topples your house...make no mistake, this kind of ignorance will not go unpunished (perhaps it already is?), unfortunately, we will all have to suffer along with you!

Michael Ray   September 14th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

Wow, what a turn-coat! I thought Karl Rove was the Republican of all Republicans. How can he criticize the nominee at this point?

Independent   September 14th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

Not only was McCain to be ridiculed for the fact his war injuries left him unable to use a computer, but he was blamed over and over again as having voted with President Bush 90 % of the time!
That's new, right? Well, only if you call "a factoid Obama has only made 7,000 times before" a new message.

Not being able to use the computer is an insult to all disabled veterans who fought for this country

BrianR   September 14th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

The lying ads combined with convention bounce resulted in McCain pulling up even w/ Obama ... but, American voters, especially independents, won't put up with such blatant lying. If they continue to lie to our faces day in and day out ... giving time for the mainstream press to finally report on it ... they are doomed.

Jim from Chicago (first comment above) will have to resort to something much worse since he doesn't care. I wonder if people like Jim would cheer if something were to happen to Obama.

Chris   September 14th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

HaHa Jimbo,

McCain is already back down a point and my hunch is he will continue down that slope for a while. Also, things are still not shaping up well for you people in the electoral college. Last, and probably most important, if you are trying to predict a winner is the gender gap. These national polls do not take the gender gap into consideration. So unless there is a big change from the last 16 years in terms of the male vs female voter turnout then McCain really needs to be polling about 10 points ahead to have a real shot...

I personally am feeling pretty confident right now that Obama will be our next president. And I beleive he will be going in with a real Mandate. This one will not be going anywhere near the Supreme Court.

Mark in AZ   September 14th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

If it's coming out of Rove's mouth...

I wish McCain really was still that maverick. Doesn't support the troops whe it really counts, a Senate vote. Lies in his TV ads (about his opponent sponsoring a law to teach sex-ed to 5-year-olds) and didn't come out dead-set-against torture when he, of all people, should appoint himself as the poster-boy for anti-torture. Sad.

I'm an Arizona native, served my country. voted for Reagan, and supported the first President Bush.

But I love my country too much and it's time for a real change.

Rob Nelson   September 14th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

It amazing that liar and that lying woman can't take the truth. Debate this issues not lipstick . I hope some from the McCain camp read this post. JOHN MCCAIN YOU ARE A STINKING LIAR SARAH PALIN YOU ARE A LIAR. TELL THE TRUTH AND BE SET FREE.

dyellon m.d.   September 14th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

Dear Jim from Chicago- In the real world lies do matter. In the real world we are faced with difficult problems and difficult choices to make for this election. In the real world winning means that the American People make their choice based on the facts, not on made up issues, insults, derogatory comments meant to avoid dealing with the real issues of our economy, energy needs. health care, foreign policy. If John McCain has a solution for these problems, then tell us what they are!! Don't make up lies about sex education when the actual legislation in Illinois was enacted to PROTECT CHILDREN AGAINST PREDATORS!! Don't say you were against the bridge to nowhere when you actually supported if first. Don't say you will save tax payers money when you charge your state money to stay at home 600 miles from the Capital. Don't say you support stem cell research when you actually oppose it. How can the American People vote intelligently if you distort your position on everything just to "win" We the People want to win this time. Thats more important than victory for the Bush-Cheney -McCain-Palin liar club. If they win, they might get praise from their supporters and more money and influence, but if the people win we get a better future for us and our children!!

Baron, Virginia   September 14th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

Common' people wake up! Do you want to be lied to for another 4 years? The fact of the matter is McCain has lied about many things pertaining to Obama and it makes me sick. I'm not one to judge based on hear-say, instead I look at the charater of a man or woman. I base my judgements on facts...truthful facts and not half-truthes that many people tend to appreciate. The republican party has based the last 8 years on such lies, and people have been eating it up with grace. The time is now to elect someone who has build thier campaign on truth...and that man is OBAMA.

Can the McCain camp get through the next 52 days without a lie or scewed truth about Obama to boost thier numbers?

Loretta   September 14th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

No kidding. I just heard that the Swift Boat attack ads will be coming out soon, and with a vengeance. Let's not be fooled this time Dems.

How much do you think it would cost to get Karl to switch from the Dark Side to the merely Murky Side?

Tony   September 14th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

Tina Fey as Sarah Palin = Priceless.

Amy in Woodstock, NY   September 14th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

Rove wants attention. But it is true. The Republicans are lying there way back into the White House. And they will still continue the Bush agenda, give tax breaks to their rich friends, and send our kids to wars because we can't afford their college.

I am sick of being taken advantage of. I am patriotic too. Everyone puts their country first. But the Republicans need to know that means AMERICANS first. We need a better economy, we need jobs, college education and healthcare. We don't need Bush Republicans for 4 more years. No way, no how!

Ennis, LA   September 14th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

McCain knows he needs Palin's coattails to win . Knows he must go
negative against Obama to win with these sleazy ads. Watch him during the debates as he boasts, scowels, rambles, and blinks...
eeek!

LS   September 14th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

Look how McCain has run his campaign with all his lies and negative attacks on Obama. Do the McCain supporters think that people in the United States only see this?

This is really a concern on how this country is viewed. Leaders and people all over the world are watching this election process. And all they see is how McCain has lied and has played dirty – Do you think that Leaders in other countries are going to believe anything, or trust McCain – I don't.

WE are too gullible of a country Not to put the right man in the seat and Obama is the man. He is a natural true leader, who has run a extremely good campaign and is someone leaders around the world and the people of this country can trust.

David   September 14th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

Obama is siding with Rove... this legitimizes Rove... in coming weeks it will be harder to polarize Rove when he begins making predictions against the Obama camp, since they have been losing ground for the past two months, namely in North Eastern traditoinal Democrat battlegorund states.

Keith   September 14th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

IT'S WORKING!!!! KEEP HITTING PALIN LIKE A PINATA!!!!! KEEP TURNING OVER ROCKS, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL UNEARTH. WE"VE JUST KNOCKED ROVE OUT OF HIS RATHOLE.

Truth Does Still Matter   September 14th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Rove finds McCain to be "sleezy"? Coming from the most unethical political player in the Republican Party that is pretty funny. McCain you have finally lied one too many times. You are even making Rove sick of your increasingly ridiculously false ads not only about Obama but also lies about your and Palin's past. When you can make a snake slither away, you know you are really in the gutter. Whoa..McCain, you have finally been exposed for the sleezy liar you have become!! The media won't expose you but now your own Party is Wake Up America! McCain cannot be trusted and his no-name, can see Russia from Alaksa foreign policy VP are done.

Go Obama – your continued stance on taking the high ground is finally paying off. The whole country will soon see who the real agent of change is and who is really telling the truth.

Go Karl Rove – help up expose McCain and Palin for their constant lies and disgraceful behavior!

Chloe   September 14th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Jim, Chicago is right. Lying has put McCain and Palin ahead, so who cares? Just because McCain and Palin lie to get elected doesn't mean they'll lie when they are Presidents.

Right?

California Voter   September 14th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Both campaigns tell half-truths to try and sway the voters. It helps to have listened to the campaigns from the beginning and to do your own research. So I'm not a bit surprised that Rove would say that neither campaign sticks to the whole truth. For better or worse, that's politics.

shawn   September 14th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

great question, active. Where is the mainstream media on this?
It seems that republicans are doing what they do..Lie. Where has cnn been all this time, on this issue. Call it like it is!!!

April in Texas   September 14th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Duh! I would think truth is an important factor in the presidency.. How is one to believe about policies if ads are not true? It places alot of doubt on whats truth and whats not. Its like the boy that cried wolf story.. with so many lies and fibs it eventually caught up to him and was not believed when he did actually speak truth.. God doesnt do lies to well I don't believe.

Obama/Biden 08

Sheryl from Michigan   September 14th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

The media now has a chance to ask the tough questions about McCain and Palin. But are they going to do it? NO. The media let us down when Bush was sending our troops to their deaths in Iraq. The media let us down for the entirety of the Bush Administration. The corporate owned media wants McCain to get into office so they can continue unfettered in receiving their tax breaks and making money off the American people. You don't care about us. You don't care about the truth. There are things about McCain and Palin that need to be brought out. But instead, the media sits idly by while they get away with lies and distortions. McCain the deceiver will unjustly win the White House because the media propped up he and Palin into superstar status that they are not deserving of. When crooked Karl Rove says McCain has gone too far, maybe that should send off an alarm to the media. Save America. Vote Obama/Biden in 2008

Donna   September 14th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

Well if Rove says it, Obama must be doing/saying something right....and as much as McCain's campaign is full of lies and deceit, I say KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK OBAMA!!!!!!!

No way, no how, no McCain!   September 14th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

OK, if Karl Rove thinks he's gone too far, then we know: John McCain has sold his soul to Satan!!!!

Drew   September 14th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

The problem with the Democrats this year is that they have a very flawed candidate at the top of their ticket. Generically, Democrats hold a 10 point edge against Republicans in head-to-head this year. But Obama is 2-3 points behind. He is underperforming dramatically.

Americans are not going to vote for tax increases and government takeover of health care. With a $500 billion deficit, universal health care on top of that, social security and medicare going bankrupt, God only knows how high the politicians are going to raise taxes to keep this country from going bankrupt.

But what about cutting the spending and entitlement programs? The politicians care more about their careers than the country's future.

John   September 14th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

Hey Jim (from Chicago),

I think it says something about McCain's character when he is willing to lie and deceive the American people in order to win the election. He changed his position on immigration, on oil drilling, and on taxes when his principled stances weren't popular with the Republican base. So who cares? Even if you support McCain, you should care because do you really want a President who is willing to lie to the American people to fullfill his own personal political ambitions. Would you be saying the same if Obama were using tactics this dirty? No, right. Stop being a partisan hack, start thinking. And no you are not thinking, you are being an idiot.

Kappa Man for Obama   September 14th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

As you see the GOP is just doing anything possible to derail Obama from winning the presidency (which he will). Its a shame John McCain went from a man who had energy and a good character in my eyes back in the late 90's and 2000. But ever since he crossed those lines of being a Republican he hasnt been the same. Too bad it was going to be a close race if McCain wouldnt go below the be with his trickery and misleading ads. We americans see the truth and its not with the McCain-Palin aka Maverick-Pitbull ticket. Its with the Obama-Biden ticket. The "REAL' ticket for change. Go Obama go!

tsolow   September 14th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

It's amazing to me that in a country as advanced as we are–in some ways–a major political candidate can blatantly lie, maintain the lie, and not suffer any immediate consequences.

The first poster even acknowledges that his candidate is lying and it doesn't mean a thing to him.

John Starnes   September 14th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

Karl Rove lecturing others about the virtues of being truthful? Yeah, right.

Gia   September 14th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

McCain has no honor. And neither does his party. They have become everything America has always fought against. They might as well ship themselves off to Iran and call themselves "terrorists", because they are now domestic terrorists of true Americans; putting fear and digust into our hearts with their FILTH.

It is Obama-Biden in 2008 and 2012   September 14th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

This is another bad strategy from Rove – trying to convince the American people that he has not been involved in the negative, divisive, distraction, low campaign road , and no real solutions on the issues of the McCain-Bush 2008 campaign.

Rove the American people are too smart to buy into your nonsense and lies !

Stephen   September 14th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

Truth in politics is a paradox anyways. Obama should stop taking the high road and start driving down the path to victory. John McCain's campaign is more dishonest than both of W's shenanigans in the past two elections.

re:
Jim, Chicago: "Who cares."

Dear America,

This is what we are running against. More of the same... nothing matters but "winning" a political prize.

If it takes starting a war that will kill 4,000+ Americans to win the 2004 election, then,
"who cares?"

If it requires stirring up hatred for one group of Americans or another, then, "who cares?"

If it takes pandering to the Religious Right by trampling on our Constitution's Separation of Church and State, then, "who cares?"

If it takes bankrupting our children and sending our jobs to China, then, "who cares?"

If it takes choosing a Vice Presidential candidate who would make abortion illegal for incest and rape victims, and whose foreign policy experience will be whatever she can "cram" over a few weeks, then, "who cares?"

Some of us do care. Please say NO to 4 or 8 or more years of this kind of reckless political opportunism.

Please vote those responsible for the last 8 years of tragedy and failure out of power.

And Karl Rove is a man who knows truth!

Independent   September 14th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

Enough is enough! As an independant, I really am disappointed by the degree in which John McBush is running his compain. Why Can you lie on everything? Is this the way you're going to run this country? To go far, you chose as your running mate, an expert liar named Sarah Palin, who, since choses, has never said something true (bridge to nowhere, jet sold in ebay with profit, against earmarks, been in Irack to visit our troops,...)and not knowing her own party leader's doctrine... What the hell is that? What is John McBush's judgement? Is this Palin who will lead the continental USA in case something happens to Mcain? This is ashame for America. And the world sees this, how could anybody in this world will reconsider America?
My friends, we need to think deeply about this election. Giving this country to Mcain is giving up this great country. Thank lord we got one more chance, we can still reverse our decision if we thought that Mcain and his celebrity VP are the best fit, but if you count their lies in this short period, you need to think twice. Next time you'll hear the truth that Palin is not a women! LOL
Seriously, we can't abandon this country to Mcain and his band who a want nothing but keeping the power so they can serve their own interest, that's why they are running from the issues and feeding us with lies in order to distruct us.
Thanks God we're a mature peaople!

Karl Rove is irrelevant.

This man has been elevated to the position of a "political genius"–an "architect" of one of the worst presidencies in the history of this country.

His views and opinions are meaningless. He carries no weight whatsoever and has no direct influence in this race even if he thinks that McCain's ads are pushing the envelope and aren't 100% true.

It's nice of him to take notice and express an opinion that many free-thinking people of this country have, however, the man is irrelevant.

elisabeth   September 14th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

Jim from Chicago...you are one of those superficial pinheads who make up the race of the dumb and ugly American....zero integrity and character. Like McCain: leaving his family for a 100 Mio heiress......who cares, right? amazing how the holier than though party ignores such character traits!

Anthony in Fl   September 14th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

Sure Jim that's what we need from a leader. Someone who's willing to out right lie and distort the facts in order to win or get what they desire. Wow, a McCain Presidency is sounding more and more like a 3rd Bush Term to me.

Cawboy   September 14th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

McCain is making his way to the White House with lies, so what! That’s the way he works. Remember that he lies about his age to seduce the women he’s married with right know. In the game of war one must never reject a winning strategy. Keep on going grand-pa!

Rove is a scum bag, and we all know that McCain/Palin ticket are scum bags too. MCain couldn't even answer Walter's question on The View regarding ads that are false and have been debunked. McCain has sold his soul to try and win this election.

He will not win, too much negative ads can turn on him and it will.

Obama/Biden 08! cant wait til they win!!!!!!!!!!!

Felicia   September 14th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

Karl Rove is only saying this to pretend that he isn't behind those ads and this negative disgusting smear campaign and also so people won't link Bush and McCain together by having Rove running both campaigns. Nice try Karl! It is so obvious!

CLS in VT   September 14th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

Wow when Rove thinks you've gone too far.....

Shane   September 14th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

So, Jim, you don't care if your candidate wins by being right on the issues, or that America stands for his ideas for leadership into the new era of change? You care that he win at any cost, including lying, distorting facts, or other nefarious methods? Wouldn't you rather be strong in the facts, to have the truth on your side, and to have a candidate that can win by being better in touch with the will of the people, to better represent them as a strong leader as opposed to the biggest liar? I find it deplorable. I would hope any self-respecting American would as well – regardless of party affiliation.

Michelle, Kansas City   September 14th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

Hey Jim from Chicago,

Your comment is EXACT proof of the sort of corruption seems to be permissible in the Republican party. Its voters don't even care if their candidates lie! As long as they win, then it's okay for them to lie and slander. Typical.

"Good Christians" that the Republicans claim to be – so honest and pure. Gag me with a rusty spork, you guys are all the same. Level lies about the other candidate, pretend they're true, and refuse to acknowledge the multiple bipartisan sources saying, "Uh, you're lying through your teeth."

This is the exact sort of corruption and lies our country needs to remove from Washington D.C. Our citizens deserve better. Our nation deserves better. I'm an Army veteran myself, and one of our core values was INTEGRITY. It's a shame that a decorated veteran would violate such an integral value and lie to the whole nation.

Adam in CA   September 14th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

Some people want to cheer for their party's candidate no matter how dishonest and incompetent they may be. The fact that Karl Rove is repulsed by McCain/Palin's lies demonstrates that the GOP has gone too far this time.

Obama/Biden '08

Actually, he's the promoter of these lies. And in the end of the month, there will be swift boat attacks to Obama. And guess what? Karl Rove is one of their advisers.

Tim   September 14th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

Rove is speaking out against anything related to McCain? Are you sure this isn't the 6th sign of the apocalypse?

Moon Maiden from Lake Michigan   September 14th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

Rove needs to go to Jail.
What a liar, he knows he is running his camp.
Now he makes a statement to try and fool us he's innocent.
Another Rove tactic.

jim   September 14th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

If this came out of the master strategist of dirty politics,Carl, then imagine how dirty and desperate McCain's campaign has become. What is it gonna take for the american people to see reality of the state this country isin after 8 years of republicans and George Bush? Are most of these poeple following McCain hypnotized so much so that they will vote McCain even when they know he will continue the same George Bush policies, are they so content with the current state of affairs that they are willing to ignore Palin's lies about her previous record and blindly follow? It's not only amazing but uneducated.

Jason   September 14th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

Eh, once the newness wears off and mccain cuts palins leash, the country will see her (and him) for what they really are; corrupt, sleazy, lying, cheating, do whatever it takes even if it means selling your soul to get into the white house, politicians. I used to respect mccain till this election. He shows he's willing to put partison politics above country, and like his wife said on the view, put career first. Woops, must have been a freudian slip.

The Point Man   September 14th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

Rove must know something! This is the master of sleeze politics. The right seems to approve of McCain's distorted ads. How can they run on a 'moral' platform and still put out these ads filled with distortions and lies. How can they complain about Obama's ads? Sounds hypocritical to me. McCain is hitting low so O'bama is hitting back. McCain is avoiding talking about the issues that matter by using distractions.

Doreen   September 14th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

Rove also said in the same quote that Obama's ads have gone too far.

Jason   September 14th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

Hey Jim, you think there are enough of you conservatives (base) and old people to override us younger people? You do realize that you have lost 344.000 registered republican voters and we have gained 2 miliion, right? Also, with a projected 89% of african american voters coming in on Obama's side, you still think McSame can win? I love a recent article I read, " Palin doesn't matter, numbers do". Sleezy politics will only energize the base to keep them interested until November, those of use that have decided on Obama, we've been interested. Argue all you want, but the numbers game is wholely against McSame. I dare you to bring in the recent "polls", they aren't conducted to cell phone users. All you neo-cons are in for a shock in November.

-CNN, please post this.

James   September 14th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

@Jim from Chicago
Who cares? What do you mean, who cares? The very integrity of our presidential process is coming the rails and you say simply, who cares? What you're basically saying is that it's okay to just make anything up at will to win the election. I am beginning to see that the Republican party doesn't really care about the election, the economy, the very future of our country. The only thing they seem to enjoy is angering Democrats. This is too important of a time in our history to allow lies dictate who our next president will be.

Rory O' Shea   September 14th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

Jim-

Truly pathetic. Yet, true Republican fashion. "It's okay to lie as long as our guy wins". You are a perfect example of the lack of character that Republicans have.

Pam in Vermont   September 14th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

WHO CARES? The American people who have had enough of lies and half truths from the Leader of their country; That is who cares! If you can not win an election by being "transparent" and truthful, then why would voters believe that you will run the country with "transparency and truthfulness? This white, female, 46 year old single mother$37,000 annually, who has two sons, who will have to live with the consequences of this election has a few things to say about this. One, "ENOUGH!" Enough of this crap, lets get to the real issues that we as a nation face; and YES! YES WE CAN! rid our Govenment of liars, half-truth tellers, Leaders who truly believe change is not needed and/or that simply ridding our Government of lobbiests will fix the problems we face. We must heal this broken nation by working together on the REAL issues that are before us and Barack Obama is the only candidate offering real plans. I just purchased a book I would happily share with anyone who has doubts. "Change We Can Believe In" Available on Amazon for $8.37.

How do you figure it's working?

Since the convention, McCain has gone from up 10 in the gallup polls (a 19 point bump from post-DNC polls) to up 2 in the gallup polls?

How is that working for John McCain exactly?
I don't see the logic here.

CarolO McBain MI   September 14th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

Mark, MA   September 14th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

After eight years of lies, corruption and scandals I think we are losing our souls and forgetting to measure people by their character.

I don't think it matters if the republicans are lying or not. What ever the republicans say CAN'T be contested by the media anymore because they always call any commentary against them as sexism or media bias. No matter how unbiased or right wing the media leans it will still be "the left wing media" so the media feels guilty and leans even more to the right.

Johnny V   September 14th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

Sean   September 14th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

While I'm not saying Rove didn't say this, try watching the entire interview, where Rove was making the same point about Obama. If you are going to have a headline, try not making it so one sided. CNN talks about MSNBC on the Left and FOX News on the right. Just where does CNN stand? Well based on the headline, the answer is clear. Try reporting something worth while like the issues.

It's a real problem if people don't care about the truth as long as they win. Seems to fly in the face of the America I was raised to believe in (truth, justice and all that...) Win at any cost. But the ones who pay are the American people. We pay in our reputation abroad (with our former allies) and in economic policies that lead us into greater deficits. Tax cuts paid for by the money borrowed from China. 250,000 (approximately) Iraqui civilians killed, cited by our Administration as "collateral damage." If we keep on keeping on with the McSame policies we may someday be someone else's collateral damage.

Disclaimer   September 14th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

Jim of Chicago's comment is revealing. The Republicans endorse sleezy politics and the end justifying the means. The Republicans, who think they own the flag, and the deed for patriotism, simply do not care about our county enough to face the issues honestly and see where the chips may fall. These people give a new meaning to the term "Ugly American".

Jim from Chicago is lives life void of any morals, values or character. It is amazing that someone would even try to spin this stuff. It has become so cynical that it is amazing. How do the repubs keep spinning this stuff when they are intelligent people. Its okay to say a man with family wants to teach kindergarten kids about sex ed. The distortion has gotten where I am feeling shame as an American about are values.

I'm sure this is just part of turd blossom's new strategy. The McCain camp is truly pathetic, and the uninformed voters who buy into their rhetoric are even more pathetic. Have they not learned anything after the last 2 elections, or are they just that racist? Obama/Biden 08

Jeremy   September 14th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

Jim in Chicago, you have got to be kidding. Who cares? We care! The American people care! To say it's okay that they are lying and running a despicable campaign as long as it's working is just plain ridiculous. It's one thing to run a negative campaign. I think we have come to expect that which is sad enough. But it's another to consistently lie to the American people in these ads, basically admit they are lies, and insist that it's okay because it's working. Do you have any decency? I am a white male, 9 year veteran of the Army, and I have a college degree. I have supported Sen. Obama since the Iowa caucus. I knew we were going to fight an uphill fight and that a lot of people would never vote for him because he isn't white. But come on! This is insane! You're trying to tear him down, spew lie after lie, and basically do anything you can as long as he doesn't win. I pray Sen. Barack Obama becomes president of the United States. John McCain and people like you are what's wrong with this country!

Perspicacious Chicagoan   September 14th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

To Jim, Chicago who says – "Who cares? Its working..." if you like being led by liars who feed you propaganda and restrict your freedom, go live in Stalinist Russia! Get out of the USA! You are not an American and do not deserve to live in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

ericstone   September 14th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

It's surprising that McCain has not pulled ahead, if those ads were really working.
The convention hysteria is subsiding and Americans will vote in Nov based on the issues.
Aho is going to give you a bigger tax cut?
Who will create more jobs?
Who will provide healthcare for everyone?
Whose plan will fix the economy.
Unfortunately for McCain: He took the experience card off the table with his nomination of an inexperienced Gov of a petro-state. Alaska does not have the same budget challenges like most states.
All Camp Obama-Biden really has to do is to tie McCain, the Republican to Bush and drump up President Clinton's Economic Successes. That's the key to winning.

Sad but true   September 14th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

Sadly Jim, Chicago reflects the reality of the voting public:
"Who cares, It's working..."
GOP voters don't care about the lies, racism and general lack of morality; they just want the "power" that comes with a slim majority.
McCain HAD honor 40 years ago; that's long gone.

Ray   September 14th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

I don't agree with the ads, but I think it's quite funny that Obama thinks he has a leg to stand on. What about the "Mccain wants to be in Iraq for a 100 years" ad? What about the constant comparison to Bush even though Mccain has been the most anti-Bush republican in the senate? What goes around, comes around.

Mary Cimino   September 14th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

We(the public), have been getting the impression that Karl Rove is the man behind these ads. Also, we are in a sorry state when Juliani can use Obama's Ivy League education against him in the same sentence that he used the famous "community leader" (translation: black socialist)
He made the socialist charge today on Meet the Press saying that Obama is trying to 'redistibute the wealth" The Republican campaign has begun to use buzz words for the "non-readers".

Winston   September 14th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

Unfortunately, a lot of people think like Jim from Chicago. They couldn't care less about the truth, honesty, and doing the right thing for our country.

With multiple military conflicts, gas in NC now at five bucks per gallon, and jobs no where to be found, the republicans, like our friend Jim, says who cares. Just keep piling on the lies, harder and faster, and keep talking about pigs in lipstick... hoping to run out the clock and drown out Obama's message.

Carl Rove, George Bush, John McCain, and Sarah Palin cannot be trusted. They all fail the 100% truth test and they know it.

Girl in the South   September 14th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

Erik   September 14th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

You know, the New Yorker cover is starting to make more sense now. We truly have reached a level of ads where reality is imitating satire.

Yes, it is working, just as Swift Boating did.

The only difference (and hopefully the crucial one) this time is that there is a movement behind Obama not willing to allow it to go unchecked. Last time, it was a typical election with a lackluster candidate. This time, it is an historic event with a leader who embodies the great American ideals of equality, freedom, and tolerance in a more tangible way than any other candidate since our founding.

His opponent, at best, represents the same course and his running mate represents the provincial, xenophobic, "Drill, Baby, Drill" intellect of the same people that brought us Iraq, Corporate hegemony, the housing scandal, the oil scandal, and a pariah reputation in the world with regard to our once strongest characteristic: human rights.

Get ready for the draft and a few attacks on American soil if McCain is selected. Not to mention all of our jobs will be outsourced to foreign countries because we will be to busy fighting the world. Incase you have forgotten other countries exist in this world and the grand majority have selected Obama to do business with. Fall for it once shame on you. Fall for it twice shame on me. Is there a saying for falling for something three times?

Active Duty For Obama   September 14th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

Of course he has gone way past the truth. McCain is telling outright lies. Its sad that it takes the women on The View and Karl rove of all people to say it. Why isn't the mainstream media doing their job in calling out McCain on his campaign lies. The media was kicking them selves after we invaded Iraq for not asking tougher questions and being in lock step with George Bush. They have an opportunity to make up for it now by asking tougher questions and by holding these politicians feet to the flame. They are failing terribly. If Tim Russert was still alive he would be ashamed of the way the media has covered this campaign. McCain's camp has already said this election will be won on personality and not the issues. I guess the mainstream media agrees with them fully. It's a sad day for the news and for Americans in general when you have Karl Rove call out possibly the next president for lying.

susan   September 14th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

I am amazed. I never thought there was a too far or too low for Rove. On the other hand, most of the dirtest ads done for Bush were done by 527s.
McCain is doing his own filth.
Perhaps Rove is just warning him that he is being caught directly in too many lies, smears and distortion ads.

kimbo   September 14th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

Well Jim, that why our country is on such a downhill slide. Nobody cares about the truth or the issues. If we could concentrate on the issues, there may not be such a divide in this country. Instead, pure hatred entered the political contests with the advent of Karl Rove and the so called Religious right. You can have your opinion and I have mine. Our country was founded on the notion that maybe we could meet in the middle. When hatred and prejudice enter the equation, it spells nothing but doom.

Rodger   September 14th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

unfortunately there might be enough limited information voters to put mccain over the top. but regardless of what you think about obama, mccains ethics have hit a new low with some of the ads he has run. between his uncontrolled temper, his lost ethics, and his age and health issues, he is too dangerous to elect.

Rove can say all he want, What I know is American people don't care for issues as we say. We care for beauty and don't care what comes after that. We sit down and say I need issue while we are tripping over things that are non issues. It looks likes we will have another four more years added to the last eight in economic boom. I think that is what is we want and boy we will get it in abundant.

Karl rove is just slime, but as bad as he is, the people at the Vote Values Summit really take the cake. What kind of values do these people have?

So Much For Country First...   September 14th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

To Jim from Chicago

Who cares!?!?!?!?

Are you serious... Who cares that his ads misrepresent the facts and that he is being completely disingenious?

Thats the exact mentality which is responsible for placing this counrty in the position it's in:

-soring unemployment
-rising inflation
-corporate socialism
-worthless dollar
-billions in national debt
-crumbling housing market
- failing educational system

but then again who cares, right?

If you exemplify the mentality behind the McCain/Palin camp, they I know they are truly desperate... So much for country first.

Simon   September 14th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

Perhaps Rove is just trying to curry favour with the Democrats to avoid prosecution for his many crimes against the USA. Speaking of which – why isn't he in the Senate jail cell right now for contempt of congress???

Amy   September 14th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

When Rove calls you a liar, you KNOW you're in trouble!

But btw, isn't this like Rove calling himSELF a liar since he's behind so much of McCain's campaign?

Puhleeze   September 14th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

So McCain's ad is somehow sleazier than Obama's digusting sleaze fest against Palin's family, her newborn and her daughter that we all had to endure? The Obama campaign certainly has a strange definition of "sleazy."

alvino   September 14th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

Could it be that the Master of Sleaze is not happy with Yoda?

Lillian Hubler   September 14th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

I hope the people of America ask themselves one important question, are we better off now then we were 8 years ago???? If the answer is no then it is clear that we need a change that works (Obama/Baden for 2008). If the answer is yes then (McCain/Palin for 2008). Anyone that has been in America for the past 8 years so the answer to be a big NOOOOO and we need to stop this. I believe that McCain/Palin would be a total disaster for America and Rove is starting to understand that as well.

LocalLiberal   September 14th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

100% Truth to "Bush's brain" is about 10% to us average Americans. So McCain must be running at about 02.5%.

Al Bond   September 14th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

I never thought I'd see the day when Rove would admit that republicans lie. it just shows that McLame and Failin are even worse liars on the campaign than Bush was. Unbelievable! And that indicates that they will be even more dishonet in office too. Voting for McLame and Failin is the act of a traitor to the Unites States of Amerca because you are insuring the futher destruction of our country that Bush has started. Get us into as many wars as possible and then borrow the money from other countries so they pretty much own us. And then when they call in the debt our country collapses. The republicans are much more effective at destroying our country than the terrorists could ever be.

Rob, Miami   September 14th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

This is just a tactic. The ads might be strong, but the TRUTH hurts!
Obama will loose this election!

Born in Chicago, Who Cares. America Cares. If it's vote for a party because your a member, thats a weak and lame litmus test. Reach beyond party lines and undersand what we face as a country. Vote for someone who voted with the sitting president 90% of the time and now is now a born again "American First". Eights years of someone everyone wanted to have a beer with because "he was just like them" now four more years of someone you can go to a hockey game with? Please America, Think about the choice and America's future with fact and not with your emotions. Elections start with a honeymoon and ends in a marriage.

Jerry, NC   September 14th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

After all that negative campaining by McCain, and the "big" bump he got after the Repub convention, he only has a 1 point lead in the very misleading polls??? NO! Jim, Chicago...It's the McCain party that's going down for the count and KNOCK OUT!

Ben, Jersey City   September 14th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

Karl Rove is still clearing a check from the neo-cons. This won't have much of a shelf life into next week's news cycle, he's just defusing the obviousness of the same scripted playbook that he helped to write in the first place.

Cynthia - Arkansas   September 14th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

On step,, 100% truth test, my foot. They have gone MILES too far. The public is waking up to the fact that McCain and Palin are LIARS. They weren't banking on people being smart enought to spot it this time. It's always worked before!

Molly   September 14th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

Hey, I love the add by Obama about the time warp that Obama was Not in and that McCain Was in. You know the one about the cube and the phone. I just changed my vote to McCain! And Hillary had convinced me to vote for Obama. Guess I'm just too old to vote for Obama!!!

Cyndi   September 14th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

You don't say Rove, a lying criminal tells us McCain is a dishonorable lying man who rather win an election than lose his integrity?

Nicole   September 14th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

To Jim from Chicago:

I care, and you should too. If McCain is qualified and Obama is so bad, McCain should be able to put out ads that are 100% truthful and still win the election. The fact is, he is having to make stuff up about Obama in order to make good ads. That is sad and pathetic.

s   September 14th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

Rove using the word "truth" is 1984 Orwellian bigtime!

Susan in Chicago   September 14th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

Jim, Chicago – If you truly believe a dishonest and nasty campaign are the way to go, then you're just a bad as they are. How pathetic if that's the only way your candidates can win!

I admit I'm in shock that the devil himself, Rove, is making this statement. Either he is up to something, or even he's trying to distance himself from McCain's campaign. More and more is coming out about Pack-of-lies-Palin that is not going to be a good reflection on her as well as McCain since he picked her. Plus, he may actually have to discuss the issues!!

This is what happens when you try and "hide" a candidate from the public and the media so they don't have to answer questions. Only makes people dig harder and faster when suspicions are raised!

Stay the honest track and run a clean campaign Obama and the truth will prevail this time!

Obama/Biden '08

Paul from Florida   September 14th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

Jim, Chicago is right.
The American voter doesn't care. This is the Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, American Idol, Dancing with the Stars era and we are totally unaffected by the truth.

Chris, OH   September 14th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

"Who cares?" See, this is the problem with Republicans. They think of elections as nothing more than games of ego that they need to win. They don't care about truth or justice, or whether their policies are going to make other people suffer. All the care about is winning.

Disgusting.

Karl Rove knows this best.

Obama/Biden   September 14th, 2008 2:45 pm ET

Vote smart this November. Vote good judgment. If you say that our economy is good now, you are an elitist and you do not know our struggle to put food on our bellies and gas in our cars. John McCain that elitist think the economy is good and has no plan to help us. He wants more wars, more tax cut for big corporate that ship our jobs oversees. Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania I know that your economies are hurting and you must vote smart and vote someone who understands your economics’ struggles. It is not time to support someone just for race or gender, it is time to take our country back and get our respect back around the world. Vote Democratic this November if you are a true American who put America first. We need change in Washington and the Democratic Party has that change for us this November.

Rove saying McCain went to far is one of the signs of the Apocalypse. We should all be worried. If America needs Rove to point out McCain's sleazy tactics we are in worse shape then I thought.

Alaska and Arizona POW for Obama/Biden   September 14th, 2008 2:44 pm ET

He is lying his way up to the white house. America this is a warning sign. McCain/Palin are not telling you the truth imagine what they will do when they get in. Do not believe any promise make by McCain/Palin they are all lies.

D from Ashburn, VA   September 14th, 2008 2:44 pm ET

JIm – so you are for people and a government that lies? You must be the poster child for the republican party.

Jarod   September 14th, 2008 2:44 pm ET

Hey, he's right. Is that really what you want, another liar in office?

Rob in Florida   September 14th, 2008 2:44 pm ET

Who Cares!?! Are you kidding me? I care for one and so should you. I don't want a president who had t win with lies, and I certanly don't want one who thinks the American people are tupid enough to listen to it. I care, I want the facts, hell I want the truth!!! Mccain and Palin are pulling the wool over your eyes Jim, I just hope that the rest of America wakes up in time before it's to late.

c. anthony   September 14th, 2008 2:44 pm ET

Lie, cheat, steal votes, lock innocent governors in jail–and that's just Rove. Now McCain wants to go even further to the dark side. Once again the "Maverick" proves he is more of the same McCain.

Jen, GA   September 14th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

The only reason McCain's numbers have gone up is because he picked a cute and spunky running mate without regard for her qualifications because he knows America will always pick style over substance.

p.s. When Sam Brownback was asked what was so great about Sarah Palin, all he could say was, "she's spunky."

Mark   September 14th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

Who cares? Seriously, Jim? It's called being honest with the American people, and it matters. You'd think that, after beind lied to about a war, voters would want truth and substance from their leaders but the last few weeks have shown otherwise.

Lisa   September 14th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

This is something serious...

jam   September 14th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

jim in chicago sounds just like mccain.. so what if mccain is telling lies.. WHO CARES?? i'll have you know jim, Lots of Americans do care..

and you should care... but it already appears that you, jim, & mccain, are a lost cause to the truth.. how sad!

wake up, open your eyes, and see where this country is heading with more bush ideas..

desertique   September 14th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

there is no doubt in my mind that Obama will win this election.
the electoral map shows that this will happen and there are not enough idiotic religious fanatics in this country to put the lying duo in office.

CJ in AlObama   September 14th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

Spoken like the true expert on Lies that he is . He surely knows a lie when he sees one.

MCcain surely doesn't since he is fairly new to the lying game .

MCCain use to be honorable. but no more!

Odd that they sent some former Rove educated campaigner advisers to travel with Palin to make sure she learns how to lie like and expert!

Walter, Long Beach   September 14th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

Jim's post says all you need to hear about the Republican Party's commitment to the truth.

"Who Cares? It's working..."

I can proudly say I have NEVER voted for a republican president in all my years! However.... This year McCain Palin have my loud and proud vote. I simply cannot bring myself to vote for Mr. Obama and his unrealistic ideals of what be can do. Dem's have you lost me forever? Time will tell. Next time give me a candidate of substance not pipe dreams.

mya   September 14th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

Now if Sleazy Karl Rove said that things have gone too far....that is saying A LOT!!!

Jeffrey   September 14th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

Most Americans aren't as stupid as the news media makes us out to be. Ads really aren't effective one way or another; we expect them to be ridiculous. Polls don't hold a lot of weight right now either. It's all going to come down to the debates.

Chris   September 14th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

Jim, Chicago writes:

"Who cares. It's working and Obama is on the way down for the count.

McCain/Palin 08′"

Typical GOP mindset. Lie, lie , lie...that's all you guys ever do. Swiftboating, fear mongering idiots. Mccain's ads are lies and they say "Who cares. It's working...". Instead of running on issues, the republican thugs are going to lie their way into the oval office. It was rightfully noted in Denver that "McCain's no maverick, he's a sidekick!" This McCain is no longer the maverick from 2000, he has resorted to smear tactics and swiftboat politics against Obama's superior issues based campaign...and the American people are buying the lies. Pathetic. You want Obama to talk specifics yet you can't even provide specifics on how a McCain presidency will be any different than Bush! Well, if people are stupid enough to buy into all this Sarah Palin nonsense and McCain's "maverick" credentials, I guess you'll be getting exactly what you deserve...another stupid president. Enjoy the recession you're about to experience.

Garrison, Tukwila, WA   September 14th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

Jim, Who cares???!!! I can't believe you even asked that.

People who are ready for their government to work FOR them. Not for themselves.

Robin   September 14th, 2008 2:41 pm ET

You know the McCain campaign has a truth problem when Karl Rove recognizes it. But even the discussion about the McCain campaign's - I'm trying to find another word, but the one that works here is "lies" - even the discussion about the McCain campaign's lies is distracting attention from the real problems our country faces. With Lehman Bros. on the verge of collapse, and a storm showing the weakness of our infrastracture, the candidates should be focused on discussing issues, and that the press would cover them when they do. The press should be focusing on the fact that the McCain campaign doesn't have a real economic program beyond the Bush administration's policies - that's a real story with very serious consequences for the country.

DeGee   September 14th, 2008 2:41 pm ET

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......."100 precent truth" test?

Really, Karl?
Really?

Since when did you worry about such things?

Trish, Florida   September 14th, 2008 2:41 pm ET

Who cares. It's working and Obama is on the way down for the count.
McCain/Palin 08′

Sure, Jim. Who cares about truth and integrity? It's all about winning, right?

Brian   September 14th, 2008 2:41 pm ET

To Jim: Obama is hardly "way down for the count."

There's way more registered Democrats than Republicans. Recent polls have been oversampling Republicans. Despite McCain's reputation as a "maverick," he still splits the independent vote evenly with Obama.

gene   September 14th, 2008 2:41 pm ET

Wow.. when even Rove has to come out and say that McCain's ads disgust him... that's like the devil saying "wow dude.. you're evil" :)

Broken Hearted Sailor   September 14th, 2008 2:41 pm ET

Mr. McCain, I have served my country as a member of the US Navy for 14 wonderful years. In that time I have had many leaders. Some good, some bad. But with the good and bad there was always one constent. Integrity. The integrity to tell the truth, to uphold the Navys core value's. Do you remember your core values Mr. McCain? As a former Naval Officer and a leader of young men and woman, I expected more of you. You must be ashamed to tramp around the country telling us all of your service and sacrifice for your country. And at the same time knowing you are doing it to win at all cost. I would not and could not serve under you as a naval officer or as my president. You have no honor, no courage and no comittment. Shame on you for spreading lies, and encouraging others to do the same. Take off that navy ballcap, you dont deserve to wear it. I love my country and i love the US Navy. If you are elected, i will not be able to continue my career, which i have loved very very much. I could never serve under a man that hides behind his service and spreads lies, and dishonesty. Shame on you sir, shame on you...

Griff   September 14th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

Neither does this one. Accuracy is hard to find. Even on a Ten Dollar Bill..

Mark   September 14th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

Is it another technique Rove is playing now? Or he realised that this year No way-norepublican, so he might face some difficult time while Democrats are in W.H. He is trying to be in safe side now!!! I am wondering. Truth is coming out now though, this is the good thing.

Peter E   September 14th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

Oh, so NOW you trust Rove? Whatever happened to all those posts saying Rove lies 100% of the time?

Ephy   September 14th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

Rove:
you got it but you cannot be trusted.

Mike Hunt   September 14th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

Yes the Republicans will steal another election and give us four more years of war and recession while we march towards an environmental disaster.

Amazing how myopic some of you GOP supporters are. Just can't wait to launch a war with Iran!

ashley   September 14th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

When Karl Rove is basically calling you a liar, you know you've lost all integrity McCain. I'm even more disappointed in him than I was before. Stop trying to bamboozle the American people.

Obama has my vote.

elaine   September 14th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

It is really scary what this country has turned into. People have no integrity nor self-respect. I am sick to my stomach when I saw the ads that Rove is referring to. In the same manner that I am disgusted from just reading some ot the comments here. I guess it does not really matter to some people whether someone is honest and telling the truth or not. It really is sad. Are people in the country now are so dense that they can't tell right from wrong and that they will let this country go down the drain with the likes of McCain and Palin? My God, I hope people wake up and realize what is happening here!

Don   September 14th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

When Carl Rove says, "You're a sleaze." You're a sleaze.

In response to Sue in MI. Read one of the supermarket tabloids this week. I know. It's a supermarket tabloid, but much of what we are learning about Gov. Palin belongs in a supermarket tabloid to begin with. This is better than the LogoTV series "Sordid Lives".

Diego   September 14th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

Jim,
You are an example of what is wrong in politics today. There should be a WWE death match, no hold bar. The candidates should be an example of whats great about America. Not an example displaying every trait you, were taught not to do growing up.

change   September 14th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

McCane\ Palin 08 will dangerous for the US, McCane is 72 years old,Palin will finish his first term, she has no foreign policy experinece. The campaign is full of lies and you that representing our country. Eight years is enough.

John, North Carolina   September 14th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

Jim:

Who cares? People who care about democracy care. The founders built a system around an informed and enlightened electorate.

Peddling information that you know is a lie is in direct opposition to the spirit of democracy. You're not voting for or against a candidate if the impressions you've been given are all illegitimate.

Matt   September 14th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

Wow- you know McCain has stepped over a line when Rove, the king of negative campaign, says he has.

Dane NC   September 14th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

Keep telling yourself that, Jim. Everyone should care whether the campaign is being run honestly, no matter what side you're on. Anyone who resorts to smear tactics and lies proves that they don't have enough substance to back up their argument, and McCain's campaign is hoswing that weakness over and over again.

Joe   September 14th, 2008 2:38 pm ET

It's pretty obvious the McCain/Palin campaign is lying about pretty much everything and trying to pull the dirtiest tricks in the books.

"The McCain campaign said Gov. Palin opposed the bridge to nowhere, but now we know she supported it. They said she didn't seek earmarks, but now we know she hired a lobbyist to get millions in pork for her town and her state. They said she visited Iraq, but today we learned that she only stopped at the border. Americans are starting to wonder, is there anything the McCain campaign isn't lying about?"

I am terrified at the thought of Palin in the White House and the kind of danger she could get our country into. Talking smack to Putin without even looking at the underpinnings of the Georgian/Russian conflict? Really? That's a good way to get us into another Cold War.

Look at the issues people, look behind the ads, read the platforms. Greenspan said yesterday that the McCain tax cuts will destroy our economy!! We are genuinely screwed if these guys take the White House!

Razor Willy   September 14th, 2008 2:38 pm ET

McRove the sleeze bag would know when he sees an add that over the top. He produced most of the one for McBush.

Jim in Chicago do you have brain freeze in the mid west already?
Who cares it's working... well thats helpful... you get right down to the important detailed issues of the day.

Jeanne Beans   September 14th, 2008 2:37 pm ET

Speaking of Palin,

Is it being sexist or just being a child advocate to ask who is staying with Palin's children while she and her husband are gone from home thru the election? She stated she won't return until then, and her husband is flying with her.

As a mother, I am outraged!

Steph   September 14th, 2008 2:37 pm ET

That is bad when ever Rove thinks someone has gone too far.

Jim, i doubt it!! Furthermore, a Mccai/Palin ticket will take this country back to post 1960's era. Furthermore, what does that say about 'Your" character?? if you are willing to support a ticket based on lies, racism, and voter fraud??

hi dough boy   September 14th, 2008 2:36 pm ET

Tony   September 14th, 2008 2:36 pm ET

Wow, Jim of Chicago (supposedly) doesn't care. he must not care about democracy if candidates need to lie and cheat their way to the top. You are a great American Jim. George W. Bush would be proud.

georgia jones   September 14th, 2008 2:35 pm ET

John McCain is a desperate old man and he will do anything to win. That's not change, that' s the same old politics. Palin is a freak , how can he stand to listen to that horrible voice. What has America come to?

Kelly in CT   September 14th, 2008 2:35 pm ET

Sorry Jim it's not working.... The Obama camp is laying low until this whole Palin Hype is over then they are going in for the kill.
The only thing these ads proof is the slimy kind of person McCain truly is and also shows that that's all he has to try to win. He won't win on his credentials Nor will he win having Hockey Mom Barbie at his side. That's for sure.
If The sleeze bag Rove is saying the ads bad, you know they must be bad..after the slimy ads he did for Bush.

OBAMA 08

It is painful to watch Mr. McCain, the once respected war hero, being reduced to a pathological liar. I believed he had more honor than what he has shown.

Dan Collins   September 14th, 2008 2:35 pm ET

Ha Ha HA! Karl Rove saying that lying is going too far?! what a joke! That is the funniest, most absurdly ridiculous thing I have ever heard the man say! He is the king of political underhandedness and deception: A liar's liar. The most despicable human to ever enter american politics! If he is saying that then there must be a trick to it. He must be trying to get us to think that there was some truth in McCain's ads when in actuality they were not a little too far over the line, like McCain's little toe crossed over, but blatant in your face, I don't give a flip what the filthy little facts are, bald faced lies. funny funny funny! Good one Karl.

John   September 14th, 2008 2:35 pm ET

Jim, YOU should care. If MY candidate was proved to be lying I would at least have second doubts. I don't like having liars at the helm.

Jeremy   September 14th, 2008 2:35 pm ET

Palin was picked by Karl Rove. She was not Mcains choice.Mcain was for Joe Lieberman but Karl Rove personally called Lieberman and instructed to call Mcain and withdraw from the race. Rove is saying this out of desperation. He selfish plans have been unearthed!....OBAMA/BIDEN 08

The master of slash and burn politics calling someone else 'over the line'? Hello pot, meet kettle.
Rove has no moral authority, because he has no morals. He is the current king of 'win at any cost' political strategy.
He is the embodiment of what President Washington and other founding fathers warned about when they decried political parties.

ya think? One step too far? How about a mile? Talk about a bridge to nowhere. That's what the McCain/Palin ticket gets you.

Jay, Raleigh, NC   September 14th, 2008 2:31 pm ET

The only reason Rove is saying this is because McCain's lies have become so egregious, they can be disproved by a simple search of public records or factcheck.org.

Rove has no problem with lying... he's just smart enough to not get caught. Apparently the same cannot be said of McCain.

Pepou   September 14th, 2008 2:31 pm ET

For Jim in Chicago : For you the end justifies the means, any means. For me this is just ONE among many reasons why I support Obama, campaign and donate $$ for him. Because this kind of dirty politics, lies, deception is unworthy of the American people. You should be deeply ashamed of yourself.

nellie   September 14th, 2008 2:31 pm ET

Americans have the right to vote for whomever they choose. Whenever the process comes down to slander, it's pathetic. I personally don't think McCain is this type of person. Once again, His advisors are running his campaign. To the people of this country, put on your blinders and vote for the best candidate, all other feelings aside. I do wish the MSM put a stop to asking their guest "what can Obama do to get the white vote". This line of questioning is offensive and what do expect these people to say?

Nik   September 14th, 2008 2:31 pm ET

John McCain should hang his head in shame for the lies he been spreading. If Karl Rove the sleaziest person ever decried his ads you know he he has sunken to the gutters..Shame on u John Mc Cain

Xavier   September 14th, 2008 2:29 pm ET

Jim,
Its working? Are you saying that you want McCain to tell lies so he can win the presidency? WHat kind of example are you asking him to set for our children? WHat does that say about you? Its people like you that have caused the decay in our American sence of right and wrong. I have never met you sir, but judging by your statement I have to say that I suspect that you are a horrible human being.

Cathy   September 14th, 2008 2:29 pm ET

For the first time EVER, I agree with Rove...but that man is up to something. Obama's campaign or anyone else should not trust him one bit.

P.S. Jim: Your comment is actually why this country is where it is today. I feel sorry for you and your twisted mind.

FRG   September 14th, 2008 2:29 pm ET

Bush & Company told 935 lies about Iraq-McCain & Palin will break that record!!!!!

Chipster   September 14th, 2008 2:29 pm ET

Jim, Chicago: "Who cares. It's working and Obama is on the way down for the count."

So, this is what's meant by "Republican values?" That's the reason I left the Republican Party – actually, it left me – years ago.

CJ/PA   September 14th, 2008 2:29 pm ET

Thank you, Karl Rove, for a glimpse of humanity and integrity. If it's even too much for you, imagine how the rest of us feel!! McCain and his new sidekick are running an ugly, nasty, sarcastic campaign that is indeed short on the truth and has nothing to do with the issues. I hope the American people are smart enough that it backfires right in their smug little faces.

Kathy   September 14th, 2008 2:28 pm ET

McCain and Palin "crooked talk express" will be their downfall.
They have told too many lies in too short of a time, and this will dog them for months in this campaign.
We can't afford more of this in America.

John Kellermeyer   September 14th, 2008 2:28 pm ET

So now Hell's representative Doughboy finds even McCain's lies more repugnanat than his own?

What a team!

jbob   September 14th, 2008 2:28 pm ET

"Who cares. It's working"
just what i'd expect from a mccain supporter.
this is not a team sport, fan boy.

Lyndon,CA   September 14th, 2008 2:28 pm ET

Irrelevant, America votes in black and white!

LouAnn   September 14th, 2008 2:28 pm ET

Coming from the king of sleaze himself, McCain must really be the new sleaze king, according to Rove. Dishonesty never wins and the republican party has been rift with it over the last 8 years. The end has come for them.

And sorry, but Obama has got this election beat.

Derek   September 14th, 2008 2:28 pm ET

A politician would LIE to get elected...imagine that!

Anonymous   September 14th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

i think Karl rove is an Obama supporter and will vote for Obama

Chipster   September 14th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

Oh my, I truly never thought that I would ever agree with Karl Rove on anything but this is shocking.

McCain has become progressively more pathetic, less ethical. His VP choice is imploding on closer scrutiny. Claims the he is a "maverick" are just plain silly now. Since the 2000 election, he has supported the herd, following Bush/Cheney every step of the way.

Palin's abuse of power and recklessness as mayor are being exposed more every day. She turned a surplus into a 38% tax increase and accepted those earmarks that she falsely claimed she turned down. Sure, she reversed her position on the bridge but took the earmark money anyhow. This is the sort of thing Rove means about the "truthiness" problem with McCain's sleazy ads.

Lone Wolf MD   September 14th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

It wouldn't surprise me if Rove said this in order to hide how much he is really involved with the McCain campaign. I don't trust anything that comes out of his mouth, as he has already proven he's as sleazy as they come. Thus, I suspect that the lies will continue to flow ffrom the McCain campaign.

Bleating for Obama   September 14th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

Please scrutinize the Obama ads- McCain never said he was for 100 yr war. Palin never said we were fighting a holy war with God on our side.

Nothing but fabricated lies.

A little fair coverage from the media would be nice.

DV   September 14th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

"The 100% truth test"

That's hilarious. What Rove has done to this country is just disgusting. As Rove reminds us, he ran sleezy campaigns in 2000 and 2004 and "won", and he's made America resign itself to this as the norm. So much so that the man who was tarred by Rove/Bush in 2000 is now grasping desperately at Rove's own tactics and exceeding the slime and dishonesty that Rove pioneered.

It is a sad day for this nation.

David

Kathy   September 14th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

If Karl Rove is saying that McCain is going too far than its obvious that McCain will say and do anything to win. He doesn't deserve to be president, we don't need a disgraceful person in the White House!

VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN 08!

Pacomarj from SC   September 14th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

I'm guessing he's saying this to try to look somewhat objective, so when he talks bad about Obama, he can say that he has also criticized McCain. I'm sure he doesn't mean this at all. He just looking out for himself.

Pepou   September 14th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Really ? Coming from the mastermind behind them, that is interesting. So even a pig like Rove (with or without lipstick) has second thoughts !

Rob   September 14th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Could it be that Oct. surprise is that Palin is gone . Rove must know something . What isn't he telling the public ?

kaygerard   September 14th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Who cares that we elect a president who's campaign is based on deceipt? Surely he won't lie to the American people once he's elected, right? Are you really that naive, Jim from Chicago?

Paul C. Palmetto Bay, FL   September 14th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Truth from the master.

karen   September 14th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Wow! Jim in Chicago , That pretty harsh, I guess you are of the mind truth dosen't matter. Heaven help us if that kind of mentality gets into office.

Tainopwer   September 14th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

So much for the bush and McCain claim? Looks like rove is on obamas camp. Will this means that obama is taking the bush doctrine?

chippyarm   September 14th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Okay, Rove is saying it. Does anything else need be said about McCain and his campaign?

mpowers   September 14th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

I do not like the shady ads either but they are part of the battle in
getting your message on who you are and your ideas on the
issues. There has been a lot worse though. Lynching, church-burning
images. How dare they say any unkind words about Senator Obama.

Jenny   September 14th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Duh, we didn't need Rove to tell us McCain is lying and being sleazy. His campaign offers me nothing but pure disgust.

spiculari   September 14th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

2% at the most.... 98% of it is pure mcbaloney...

Kay   September 14th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Jim,
goes to show how much value you place on your country, if you don't mind politicians lying their way to the white house. Bet you are one of the morons that voted bush in TWICE!.

laura from Ga   September 14th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

Buyers don't be fooled.Even if Rove really thought this he would not tell anyone.I think that this is another Republicain tactic. If it is true than Obama is on the right track by calling them what they are(liers)that will do anything.Obama/Biden08

Helen,Ft Lauderdale   September 14th, 2008 2:26 pm ET

To Jim in Chicago,

Typical Republican. LIES, LIES, LIES and doesn't even care.

Obviously a scum bag!!!!

MikeH   September 14th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

It's a trap. Be careful.

leigh   September 14th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

So is he saying that all McCain ads will only speak the truth from now on? I don't trust Rove, Mr. Truthful, ha.

Chickens coming home to roost   September 14th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

Niether do most of the Obama ads.

I believe his campaign has been spinning lots of falsehoods: McCain and his 100 year war, Palin and her Holy war? – ANYONE WHO LOOKS AT THE ORIGINAL FOOTAGE KNOWS NEITHER OF THEM SAID WHAT OBAMA PRETENDS THEY SAID.

Not to mention all the lies Obama told about HRC, and now Palin.

Steven in CA   September 14th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

This man's opinion is meaningless. He's a liar, a cheat, and criminal.

mimi   September 14th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

Jim in Chicago if only you had a brain. What is the difference between
Gov. Palin and Cheney? Lipstick.

Clinton Supporter for Obama   September 14th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

You know you've lost your integrity and honor when even Karl Rove is calling you out on your lies.

Palin 2012   September 14th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

Hillary is a joke and we don't need her to win this election.

Palin 2012

Carol   September 14th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

Here it is from the horses mouth, ( Karl Rove).....McCain has gone too far on the truth department.........well, that is a surprise isn't it?
Their whole campaign is not run on facts/policies or anything remotely to do what is best for the country......it's smear and lie and the American people should be sick of it.
It is because the McPalin ticket is so shallow, they feel they have no other choice......if you have no real solutions to this country's problems lets just attack the other side that will do!
Dear God America please wake up before Nov and do the right thing for this country and send these two wanna B's packing.
McCain is right on one point though....COUNTRY FIRST, not be used just as a slogan but too make sure this country is put first by voting for the real issues facing this country.

some dude   September 14th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

C'mon..."you know-the 100% truth test"??
Lets just call them what they are:LIES.

KH   September 14th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

McCain's ads have been downright dishonest and untruthful. I think the American people deserve a president who will be truthful for once, and McCain certainly does not fit the bill.

Mar   September 14th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

Do you think any of the people planning to vote for McCain and Palin will take note and actually think about how much truth there is in most of McCain's ads. Hey, what about the Evangelical base? I thought they held themselves above such things. After witnessing the lie after lie and exaggeration after exaggeration from Palin in the last two weeks, that is one group I have no desire to be a part of.

Chris   September 14th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

the real question is whether or not the media will hold their feet to the fire

SF   September 14th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

Karl Rove knows a thing or two about sleazy campaign ads as he is the master of them. The main stream media is finally realizing that McCain's campaign is based on lies, and, soon the American people will to.

Connie   September 14th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

Obama campaign wake up, the American people are idiots they will believe every thing McSenile and Palin feed them.Even when they are shown to be lairs over and over.If McSenile is elected there will be a third world war. Your children and grandchildren 's dreams will go down the tube. Old poor, white, women for OBAMA/BIDEN
Connie from Indiana

QJP   September 14th, 2008 2:23 pm ET

Republican's are the NASTIEST when it comes to elections. THEY will say and do ANYTING to get fear in people to vote for them. To think that biggot Rove himself thinks it gone to far is very scary!

Maggie   September 14th, 2008 2:23 pm ET

Yeah Jim- real bright! Who cares if its the truth- when they get into office they will change their tune anyway.
Enjoy four years of worse than Bush.

Happy New Democrayt   September 14th, 2008 2:23 pm ET

The Liar's Liar is calling McCain & Palin a liar.

So – the Straight Talk Express just drove off the Bridge to Nowhere.

I'm ashamed that have voted Republican all my life.

enough already!   September 14th, 2008 2:23 pm ET

There you have it folks - Our War hero role model character model and his Dick Cheney in a dress sidekick are running the most dishonest campaign ever.

And you heard it from the master of dishonest campaigns.

Elaine Burger   September 14th, 2008 2:22 pm ET

It's as the saying goes, what goes on in the dark will soon come to light. McCain needs to start telling the truth since he says he is a Christian!

Dandelion.   September 14th, 2008 2:22 pm ET

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

WOW! How much of a low-life are you, to have KARL ROVE call you out?!?

David in Indian Wells   September 14th, 2008 2:22 pm ET

When the lowest form of life in the country, Karl Rove, calls you out on your lies you have clearly sunk to a new low Mr McCain.

I guess in order to run as the GOP candidate for president you had to check your HONOR at the door. I used to respect you Mr McCain, but you have now earned my disdane!

Jen   September 14th, 2008 2:22 pm ET

Karl Rove gains a conscience? Has the world gone mad?

Shannon   September 14th, 2008 2:22 pm ET

Rove must still be upset with McCain about the 2000 campaign.

Olivia   September 14th, 2008 2:22 pm ET

I think Karl is bored. This gifted man is looking fora new client to "make'. Well, he may have fertile ground in Obama who seem to be very maliable.

Clinton   September 14th, 2008 2:21 pm ET

WOW!!! For once in my life I agree with Rove. If the lowest scub bag on earth, sleaziest, compulsive liar, potatoe head, convicted felon, and man who has ran the most disgusting ads for bush in 2000 and 2004 says this....America please take heed.

Obama/Biden 08

Sage   September 14th, 2008 2:21 pm ET

what are you when scum calls you scum? McCain!!! LOL, the mastermind of the Bush debacle calls McCain out, you know you are in trouble..wake up America, the alarms are ringing

Dylan   September 14th, 2008 2:21 pm ET

Memo to Rove...there's no such thing as "100 %" truth. It is either true or or not true. Quit trying to rationalize your peoples pack of lies and sugarcoating it.

McCain and particularly Palin indeed are 100% LIARS.

HiLLARY SUPPORTER   September 14th, 2008 2:21 pm ET

HAHA SO FUNNY.. THAT IS WHY I VOTE DEMOC THIS YEAR ROVE.

Amazed   September 14th, 2008 2:21 pm ET

Are you serious? I am shock. Grasping for air because I have a heart attack.

Third Eye   September 14th, 2008 2:20 pm ET

McCain = lies, lies, lies. I remember he has the word honor in his vocabulary before. Apparently, he lost it recently, or he never understand the meaning of that word. Palin? Any person you random grab from the street know more about our national and international policies than her. The only thing she has is a pretty face. Empty, shallow, big lier.

khistian   September 14th, 2008 2:20 pm ET

MCcain even your buddy adviser is saying your a liar. liar liar pants on fire and karl Rove is holdin the matches

Ralph   September 14th, 2008 2:20 pm ET

Obama is getting desperate...They now believe Karl Rove? Go figure....

White and Black support for Obama   September 14th, 2008 2:20 pm ET

If Mccain going to tell lies to win, how is he going to address issues tuthfully?
I can't admit on the view that his campaign is lying about Obama children ad and He Mccain at the end said i approve this message.

Mccain can't tell lies and call himself maverick.
Or is that how to be marverick to lies, or smear, destort Obama recond to win an elction?

I thought he said he is putting American first, why is Mccain putting America first when he lies against his compatriot?

The old Mccain just want to win at all cost!!!!

Are you fool to believe Mccain is putting his country first?

gluvnast   September 14th, 2008 2:20 pm ET

John   September 14th, 2008 2:19 pm ET

I guess that sums it all...
Wake up America for the sake of our country

ken   September 14th, 2008 2:19 pm ET

obama should run ads about nafta because mccain supports nafta 100%,here is an example in lowa people know mccain is against ethenol in mccain is not even close in that state, but peple in Ohio in Mich in Penn have no clue mccain is 100% for nafta,if obama just run ads like crazy about nafta in those states mccain wont come close to winning those either, what is obama doing his ads are dead as hell,he have to start running ads about how mccain supports nafta how simple is that, gosh.what the hell is he waiting for.

Brian B (Va)   September 14th, 2008 2:19 pm ET

The republicans are saying that the negative ads are Obama's fault for not agreeing to do the town hall meetings. #1. Obama respectively turned down the meetings. #2. McCain does not get to set Obama's campaign strategy.

As far as negative ads and who is at fault, Obama did not mention McCain's name in any ad until after month long of name slinging by McCain in August. More lies, more of the same.

Central Scruitinizer   September 14th, 2008 2:19 pm ET

It appears that the snakes of the rupub propaganda machine are beginning to bite each other !!! How delightful .. .. ... Rove either has a guilty concious or has suddenly decided to tell the truth

A Liar For All Americans   September 14th, 2008 2:19 pm ET

Apparently, the Straight Talk Express just drove off the end of the Bridge to Nowhere.

The Liar's Liar is calling McCain & Palin a liar.

Getting sillier and sillier.

Grace Needed   September 14th, 2008 2:18 pm ET

This man, Karl Rove, is going to have to answer some day for his words and actions and he may be starting to realize the gravity of what he has done. God have mercy on his soul for the way he has misled this country.

Yngvai   September 14th, 2008 2:18 pm ET

Wow....that tells you something when even Rove is criticizing McCain's ads

Mike   September 14th, 2008 2:18 pm ET

When 'Rove' says McBush has gone to far and is dishonest. That pretty much settles it.

Renee- Florida   September 14th, 2008 2:18 pm ET

This is strange...Why is Rove speaking the truth? What's the strategy now?

me   September 14th, 2008 2:18 pm ET

The Karl Rove photo diet. Was just going to have breakfast when I saw that close up of Rove's face. My appetite disappeared.

Would somebody please tell that pig to put on some lipstick?

Julie   September 14th, 2008 2:17 pm ET

Who is to talk? I am surprised he is even speaking about it. He is the sleaziest of all, so he should know.

Jinny Lee   September 14th, 2008 2:17 pm ET

Even Rove had awakened.

Darryl   September 14th, 2008 2:17 pm ET

"Since naming Gov. Palin as their vice presidential nominee, the McCain campaign has distorted, distracted and outright lied to the American people about her record in a desperate attempt to hide the fact that a McCain/Palin administration would be nothing more than a continuation of the failed Bush policies of the last eight years," the memo read.

Among other things, the memo cited the Iraq-visit dispute, as well as Palin's claims to be a fiscal conservative despite significant growth in the Alaska state budget

Ed, Santa Fe, NM   September 14th, 2008 2:16 pm ET

LIES LIES LIES LIES LIES

Bob   September 14th, 2008 2:16 pm ET

Ya Think !! No wonder they say Rove is a genius.

Los   September 14th, 2008 2:15 pm ET

McCain may be fanning the flames, but Rove is the one who started the fire. We wouldn't be facing a potential Palin/McCain nightmare if it weren't for him.

Bajanluv, Newport Newss   September 14th, 2008 2:15 pm ET

OMG, pigs do fly!!!!!!

Javone   September 14th, 2008 2:15 pm ET

LOL There is no honor among thieves LOL

Susan   September 14th, 2008 2:15 pm ET

You KNOW it is sleazy if Felon Rove thinks it is! McCain=Slezeball tactics!

No Hillary = No Obama   September 14th, 2008 2:14 pm ET

Me thinks Darth Vader feels upstaged by McCain's team of pit bulls. This is laughable given that Rove was one of the most eregious deceit spinners to come along. What, did he find religion?

Zion   September 14th, 2008 2:14 pm ET

Rove, honey, you can't do the job of the Main Stream Media. Everyone knows McCain is not telling the truth, but its just a case of not voting for someone who looks a little different than the other presidents. We can pretend to be progressive all we want, but we know what this is about.

Sue in MI   September 14th, 2008 2:14 pm ET

OK what's up Rove's sleeve now? Or has he finally realized that he could fool enough of the people twice and that this time around we realize that the country is in too much trouble to fall for it again? Or does he know something about Palin that the rest of us don't yet?

100% truth test? When was he even worried about 25% of the truth being told? Geez.

Jim, Chicago   September 14th, 2008 2:14 pm ET

Who cares. It's working and Obama is on the way down for the count.
