We need a culture of sensibility and peace in Washington, not the culture war that will erupt if the McClampett ticket is elected. Repugs, come to your senses before it's too late... how the rest of the world sees us really does matter. Sometimes those who vote repuglican remind me of the people I lived around in a small tourist town who were simultaneously dependant on tourism dollars while complaining about those same touristas... you can't have your cake and eat it too.

Those polls are a waste, they just poll a limited number of people, plus the fact that htere are people who do online polls and keep voting on them more than once, and I for one don't belive McCain is neck and neck with Obama.

"Summer is coming to a close… And less people drink Koolaid when it gets colder. So.. With that in mind I expect people will start waking up from Obama's sugar filled promises of delusional grandeur and vote for McCain."

Terry from NJ you confussed, you should go back and read the article. It said McCain lost his convention bounce not he gained in the polls, lol.

When will the media acknowledge the fact that the 10 percent of voters not siding with either mainstream candidate are supporting OTHER candidates, not simply "undecided." Anyone who follows politics knows that a substantial amount of voters are supporting Nader, Barr, McKinney, and other third party candidates- in some polls 5-10%. Why does the media, including CNN, constantly attempt to make all voters not supporting either mainstream candidate seem as if they're "undecided" between the two?

What's wrong with saying 4% support Nader, 2% support Barr, etc. etc.?

Not even close. Corporate media will keep it a dead heat until the final count, because of RATINGS. If anyone pulls ahead no one will watch their mind numbing continual coverage with their empty-headed pundits. It isn't even close, McCain-Palin don't have a chance and they know it.

How can anyone be undecided with 2 months to go? Are this many people so willfully ignorant? The decision is easy,

Vote McCain/Palin
If you liked Bush,
6 years, 2 wars, Osama sill out there & a draft looming to follow him to the gates of hell.
If you make 6 million and care about your pockbook and no one else vote McCain/Palin.
If you or your children don't need healthcare
If your think the economy will fix itself, because the fundamentals are strong, and 400 Trillion in debt is okay.
If you're female and don't mind making less than a man, having your reproductive rights in jeopardy, please vote McCain/Palin, don't have buyers remorse when the you know what hits the fan.

If 8 is enough vote Obama/Biden

This is temporary at best. On a day Obama could have taken the ball and run with it on the economy, all he came up with was to essentially say "Oh no he won't!!!!" to McCain's promises to reform Wall Street.

This is change we can believe in? Blech!!!! I think not.

Palin had speechwriters right the speech that got the Republicans jazzed up about her. But in her first interview, when asked about foreign policy, she said that she could see Russia from Alaska! For those on the fence: This world is too dangerous to leave in the hands of someone like Palin. Do we want another world War?

At least McCain had a significant bounce - more than Obama can say. It is normal to have a bounce go away - just ask Obama. No big deal here. Keep a close watch on those swing states and electoral votes - that is what you need to worry about.

Go McCain/Palin

McCain can try to hide from it, but he's on the record over and over saying he doesn't know much about economics. In one debate he says he listens to his advisers and then names a laundry list of long in the the tooth Republican elites.

What are you talking about CNN? This is according to your polls. The convention bounce is gone, but McCain is still ahead in most polls compared to Obama being ahead prior to the conventions.

Complaining will only get you so far. McCain (and now Palin) have been constantly complaining about Obama and Biden. After you've complained for a while, people want to hear what you have in mind to fix the problems you're complaining about. Snappy little sayings and sound bites are cute, but you'd better have some substance. No one remembers sound bites. Since McCain and Palin have nothing new to offer (except a VP who has the appearance of Barbie, and the mental outlook of Darth Vader), they're slipping. As Moose Lodge Barbie continues to be able to do nothing but read speeches, and McCain continues to do nothing but complain, the American people will continue to find them increasingly forgettable.

It's ABSURD that it's even in 'dead heat', just plain absurd.

It's shouldn't even be close come November.

I hope today woke all of you up - America cannot afford 4 more years of Republicans failed policy.

Obama/Biden- the responsible choice.

I am an outsider, living 90 miles north of Toronto, Canada. My interest in politics so far was minimal , until Obama entered the scenery. I hope that all Americans, now that they have THE chance for change go for it and hold on to it very tight ! Prior to the Bush years the US was a highly regarded nation, this great image is now in shambles. Most countries, Europe included, consider the US at present a war-hungry , troubled, selfcentered nation.
Obama can make the necessary CHANGE...
He is a born leader, radiates strength, is young and smart and most importantly, he is sincere.
With McCain and ruthless Palin, war and guns will have priority. People, don't take the wrong route ! Obama is the only ONE who can lead you to the top again and make sure that you regain the respect you so well deserve.

I don't get why ppl keep calling it a dead heat based on the popular vote. Isn't Barack way ahead on the electoral map?

I don't think any false smear that the republicans can think of can give McCain enough of a swing on the electoral map. He needs to get almost all the tossup states. Not gonna happen.

Reality usually wins over fantasy. That has not happened over the last two elections. Reality is we have been shafted under faith-based economic ideas. We can hope that the evaporation of the McCain convention bounce is due to reality setting in.

Our economy is in the tank because of the right wing polices Palin backs. We have had eight years of evangelical capitalism. We cannot run our economy on the faith idea that no regulations ends with more people doing good over bad. Obviously, this philosophy has allowed for the looting of our lending institutions.

We need a realist, like Barack Obama. He knows and understands the function of government. He understands that we have to have an economic regulatory structure and a national plan for the advancement of our strength, both in might and mind, for America.

McCain traded in his Maverick stance to four more years of Bush when he picked Palin. We do not need four more years of evangelical economy tactics that the Republicans have run us under with.

Out-of-Control Republicans. Enough is enough!

Forget reporting on this garbage. We want to know about Michigan and Ohio preventing citizen from voting in a cretain district if their name appears on a forclosure list. I wonder why the Republicans are pressing this in two states that are closely contested? Talk about win a any cost!!! CNN this subject needs to be on the ticker and you need to ask McCain and Obama what they think about it.

Believe me, McCain has lower to go in the polls. National polls are just a feeler for opinion. Give us battleground poll updates instead please.

Notice the polls drop everytime either McCain or Palin open their mouths in an interview. No wonder they're being hidden from the press. Their real plans are not for the people of this country.

To Jessica:
"Notice this article did NOT state WHICH polls they were averaging."

From the article: "CNN's latest poll of polls consists of three recent surveys: Newsweek (September 10-11), Gallup (September 12-14), and Diageo/Hotline (September 12-14). It does not have a sampling error."

Honey, keep watching FOX. Just what we need, another pathetic, slack-jawed "everything is fine in the world. what economic woes" type. Get an education and learn how to read, ma'am.

I think it could be like this for a while. I just don't see the numbers changing greatly until voters begin focusing on the issues, rather than ideology, and start asking for specifics from the candidates.
I think the real challenge for the McCain campaign is to spell out exactly what "reform" will look like if he's elected. I think people are caught up with the jingoism of the word right now and are excited, but once they see that there are no specific meaures attached, McCain's numbers will start to drop.
Having said that, I think this will be a close election when you look at the popular vote. However, I think there's a good chance there will be a much larger gap in the Electoral College (for Obama), and then it will be the Republicans' turn to dispute the viability of the Electoral system.

Palin's "new speech" will cause Obama and Biden to obsess over her for another 3-5 days. I've NEVER seen a campaign get more off message than the Chosen One's campaign has.

The best article of the day on CNN was that Biden was "on the stump". I thought Biden was stumped EVERY time he opened his mouth.

I'm not surprised McCain's poll numbers are down. McCain supports the supply-side, trickle-down economic policies that have failed this country for the past 8 years.

Reducing corporate taxes does not help the average worker & reducing taxes on people making over $250k does not create new jobs. Bush didn't understand the economy & McCain wants to continue the same economic policies.
