McCain clarifies economy comments

McCain is defending his economy comments.

(CNN) - Hours after calling the economy ‘strong,’ John McCain appeared to clarify the comment Monday afternoon, minutes after he was derided as "out of touch" by the Obama campaign.

"My opponents may disagree, but those fundamentals of America are strong," McCain said at a campaign event in Orlando. "No one can match an American worker. Our workers sell more goods to more markets than any other on earth. Our workers have always been the strength of our economy, and they remain the strength of our economy today."

“But their efforts are not being matched at the top," he added. "From Washington to Wall Street, the top of our economy is broken. We have seen self interest, greed, irresponsibility and corruption undermine the hard work of the American people."

McCain faced criticism earlier in the day from Democrats for telling a Jacksonville crowd that, "Our economy - I think, still - the fundamentals of our economy are strong, but these are very, very difficult times."

So McCain states: "We have seen self interest, greed, irresponsibility and corruption undermine the hard work of the American people."

Who has been running the country for the last 8 years? And he represents change???

  2. McCain is a liar

If McCain believes it's the "top of the economy" that's broken, then why does he want to give the "self-interested, greedy, irresponsible, and corrupt" top hundreds of millions of dollars in tax breaks, and let the rest of us keep struggling while the rich get richer?

Put your money where your mouth is, McCain.

Hmmmm.....back to back articles with boards for the same pro-Obamabot story?

    Doesn't exactly seem unbiased, CNN.

The American public expects better reporting.

Pandering. "No matter how what I said five minutes ago must have sounded, you mustn't forget that I love you poor little troglodytes and that I'm fighting for you by pledging to use my remaining few months on this Earth to keep the American economy as strong as it is today for your children and theirs."

    I have a college education

  7. Oh Boy!!!???

So difficult I may have to sell one of my houses difficult, or I hope you can believe my "American Workers make us strong" bs kind of difficult?

Either way, your comments are difficult to believe. Tax custs to companies that ship jobs over seas, but our American Workers is what makes our economy so STRONG.

    WOW John, are you serious?

More and more Republicans are trying to distance themselves away from McCain/Palin to save their own rear-ends. This stupid comment should make even more of "his friends" abandon ship.

"Our workers sell more goods to more markets than any other on earth. "

Is that why we're the world's leader on imports and have had an ever increasing trade deficit?

Someone should fact check McCain before he does press releases. Caught slipping again:

"No one can match an American worker. Our workers sell more goods to more markets than any other on earth."

Not true. Germany holds that title, and China exports more than we do.

Old man McCain is clueless and out of touch with mainstream America. Having a wife with millions to spare could be part of his problem.

McCain wanted reform of the lending and investment industries long before Obama. What does a Lawyer know about the Economy but how to sue and over regulate and get executives off the hook for their corruption!

He is 100% correct. The fundamentals of our economy are strong. Every six years the economy goes up and then goes down. But he is correct...the basis of our economic system (capatilism) is very strong. It is time to improve upon our capitalist economy.....we do NOT need to change our whole economic system to SOCIALISM like Sen. Obama is proposing!

Why does Obama try to tell us how bad we are and that HE is the saviour? He is really making me worry, that kind of ego is very dangerous. Mr. McCain belives in this country, Mr. Obama belives we need him or we are doomed.

You already said exactly what your filthy rich senile mind meant to say!

We already heard you and it cannot be retracted.

For someone who has $100,000, 000.000 and nine houses I guess the econony is strong~!

But for those like me who lost the one house I have been paying for over 14 years, it is in the toilet, just like the Republican McSleasy and Pa-Lie policies!
