GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado (CNN) – At the start of his western swing, Senator Barack Obama continued to paint John McCain as a creature of Washington, so steeped in the ways there that “change” under a McCain-Palin administration is impossible.
“It’s great that he now wants to talk about putting corporate lobbyists in their place. But he needs to explain why he put seven of them in charge of his campaign,” he said at an outdoor rally under a cloudless Colorado sky. “If you think those lobbyists are working day and night for John McCain just to put themselves out of business, well I’ve got a bridge to sell you up in Alaska.”
While Obama said McCain was not personally responsible for the current turmoil in Wall Street, he said the Arizona senator would continue the policies that put various financial institutions like Lehman Brothers on the brink.
“It’s a philosophy that says even common-sense regulations are unnecessary and unwise,” he said. “Now, instead of prosperity trickling down, the pain has trickled up - from the struggles of hardworking Americans on main street to the largest firms of wall street. This country can’t afford another four more years of this failed philosophy.”
Tightening poll numbers and excitement about the addition of Governor Sarah Palin to the Republican ticket have given the Obama campaign pause, and forced them to promise Democrats the party’s nominee would get tougher on the stump.
“These times are too serious, the stakes are too high to let the other side pull the same stunts and use the same scare tactics that they always to do. Because we know what the consequences are because we’ve lived them,” Obama said Monday. “We’ve seen them turn an entire campaign into a debate about swift boats and windsurfing. And what do you get when it’s over? Iraq and Katrina and a melt down on wall street and millions w/out jobs, or homes, or health care, pain at the pump. Enough, enough of this not this time not this year.”

Get 'em, Barack! They deserve it!
Sorry, Barack. The bridge is nowhere.
Remember, Palin didn't build the bridge, she just kept the money.
Why don't you demand that we get a refund?
As regards the faith based ad: I am a Catholic voting for the Democratic ticket. There are too many hypocrites and heathens in the other so-called god-fearing party, including Mr. 911 who is supposed to be Catholic but whose ethical views and personal lifestyle are in stark contrast to his faith. Amen.
There's also a philosophy that says Socialism is the best way. Thats what Obama ascribes to. Expect bailouts for everyone, and no need for responsible self control under obama. The gov't will tax everyone into the same tax bracket. Obama claims he won't raise taxes but he's the same liberal as kennedy(ted), Kerry & clinton. ST economic policies from the dems are great but what we need is a LT solution and thats what McCain offers.
Senator Obama needs to really stress this point: the bankruptcy of Lehman Bros and the AIG Crisis and the Freddie and Fannie Macs:
This is what happens when huge financial institutions like this are allowed to regulate themselves.
As if people don't lie or steal.
It's about time that Obama step up to the plate and call McCain out for his flawed philosophy.
Funny that he should choose those loaded words; He's been selling bridges to the American people for months now. Along with bridges, he's been selling castles in the sky. This guys should be on the other end of the line selling penny stocks to old ladies.
Yea, and tell McCain/Palin to take that bridge to no where and get to hell out of america, taking Bush and Liberman with them
Ask Obama how many lobbyists are running his campaign... you'll be very interested in the fact the number is higher than 7.
Barack,
This is more of what we need. We need you to continue to attack the failed policies that McCain will try to force down our throats and let Joe hit her with her lies. Stay on focus; we can not be mislead by a man who does not realize we are drowning in debt and at any moment, China, Russia or even Iraq can call in the debt. Please focus on that oil that China has the bid on and we are still sending Iraq money
McCain is a clueless old man.
Today he said the economy is sound, meanwhile stock msrket sunk over 450 points.
America can not afford him. Pure and simple.
I'm afraid Americans are just too racist and too stupid to actually listen to a guy who understands the economic problems America is facing.
It's a shame that this is even close.
Tell 'em Senator Obama!!! If Senator McCain is elected president, I am pulling all of my money out of American Financial Insitutions and headed to Canada. Anyone voting for McCain would have to be completely out of their mind! The economy is the #1 issue for most Americans, and to vote for someone who can make such reckless statements about how the enconomy is not doing that bad, is just not fit to lead our great nation!
That's right! And unless you have had your head buried in a hole for the past 7 years, THE ECONOMY IS NOT STRONG!!!! But of course, my friends, why would John McCain care to know that? Because he doesn't. McCain wants to spend $315 on reviving nuclear energy!!! We started an unnecessary war in Iraq! A Nuclear War is next!!!
And we've watched the "out of touch" or senile tell us today that the economy is strong – then redefine that meaning too.
Yes, the stakes are high. Pay attention America – McCain will cause even more pain...
Obama/Biden
You better believe it, it boils down to WHO DO YOU TRUST?
McCain and Palin!!!
No underground Chicago mafia upstart, please.
How could anyone with half a brain what 4 more years of the same failed foreign, and economic policies of the last 8 years.
Yes we can take our country back!
This is an American intelligence test. If we are stupid we will elect a Republican after 8 years of Republican failure.
If we are smart, we will change course and vote Obama. The last time the economy was good we had a Democrat in office.
He's right... & he wasn't disrespectful about McCain...
I mean lets face it... mcCain tried to blame Obama for rising gas prices!
-V
I cannot wait until the debate! I think that will be the deciding factor. Although I really doubt those that made up their minds will change it, but I sure hope Obama can convince them, because there are some serious idiots out there in America that can't see past their stubborn self.
If you believe OBAMA I have two brookland bridges i'll sell you at a fraction of the cost of the Alaskan bridge.
Sen. Obama speaks to the real issues affecting this country, while John McCain will probably relate this to his time as a POW and accuse Sen. Obama of comparing Gov. Palin to a gas pump.
I see ONN ( Obama New Network) is only posting anti McCain comments again.. How sad that a news media company is so in the tank for one candidate...
new kind of policts???
yeah right....then Obama...I've got a bridge to sell YOU!!!
I will never vote Obama...he is WORSE than anything he has accused McCain of....and has us all scared into voting for him or there will be riots in the streets!!!!
and with Obama we will be buddy buddies with Putin soon, long live the socialist (everybody poor) era
