Palin debuts new speech in Colorado

Palin unveiled a new stump speech Monday.
Palin unveiled a new stump speech Monday.

GOLDEN, Colorado (CNN) – With the tremors on Wall Street reverberating throughout the political world on Monday, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin unveiled a revised stump speech that focused on the troubled economy.

Palin blamed corporate executives for the failure of the investment bank Lehman Brothers, and said the government’s financial regulatory system “is outdated and needs a complete overhaul.

“Washington has been asleep at the switch and ineffective and management on Wall Street has not run these institutions responsibly and has put companies and markets at risk,” she said, adding that “every effort” has to be made to ensure that the bank deposits and investments of regular Americans remain solvent.

Echoing one of John McCain’s favorite lines, the Alaska governor said she was pleased taxpayer money would not be used to bail out Lehman, as it was following the collapse of Bear Stearns last spring.

Palin’s remarks in Colorado were lengthier and more involved than the stump speeches she has typically been giving on the campaign trail. In particular, Palin kept the focus on the nation’s economic concerns, telling the crowd she had cut taxes in Alaska (she did not mention that she had introduced a sales tax hike as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska.) She also highlighted her small town bona fides.

“My husband Todd and I, we have a commercial fishing operation,” she said. “My sister, she just opened a service station. Todd’s folks, they own a hardware store. We’ve all built small businesses and worked hard to earn a living. We know the struggles out there.”

“It’s the small businesses, the mom and pops that are the cornerstone of America,” she said.

For the first time, Palin outlined what her goals will be for the vice presidency, noting that she and McCain had spoken about her job description.

“My mission is going to be energy security and government reform,” she said. “And another thing near and dear to my heart, it's going to be helping families who have special needs and children with special needs. And we're going to be pushing for innovative cures for diseases.”

Palin’s youngest son Trig has Down Syndrome.

Garbage - just like the last one. I can give and write a better speech. HOW ABOUT BIDEN's new speech - the one with actual substance and policies that will help Americans? Come on CNN - grow some strength!

I did not hear anything about women's issues, such as health care, equal pay, abortion, etc.

How will she make energy secure? How will she reform government? We need to see a specific plan.

There is too many questions than answers to her speech. I for one, do not trust her at all.

Washington has been asleep at the switch ????

    Hhhhmmmm. Very interesting Sarah.

Why don't you wake up your running mate?

Wow – if she wants to come up with innovative cures for diseases, maybe she should revisit her position on stem cell research!

It will take a hell of a lot more than a new speech to impress me – No thanks Sarah but nice try.

And who better than the laissez-faire Republicans to slap the hands of the "management on Wall Street"?

Does she even know what she's talking about or is she handed a speech and told what her position is?

Please false Dems spare us the 'I'm voting GOP for the first time BS'. I don't believe women can be that stupid to vote for that ticket simply because another woman is on there.

What a wind bag! So when is she going to answer some questions from reports? I would love to hear why she thinks the financial problems are due to highly compensated executives, or is that just a talking point furnished by one of McCains lobbyist?

Q: What experience does Palin have regarding a national (or global) economy?

A: None. And, her party has been in charge for 8 years so why would we trust that they can fix it?

Did anyone see Palin house, aces of landdddddddddddddd and a PLANE sitting right outside the door with it own port to wait on her and her family to fly to the grocery store. How many of us that has a "normal" life and family with privileges as she do?

It's nice to hear the next vice president Palin doing her job. Too bad Biden has his tails behind his legs and hiding behind Obama. You with think with DECADES in Washington that Biden would have something to say – I guess the Obama campaign directive telling him to keep his mouth shut is still in effect. Maybe Biden can go on Oprah?

She's pleased that taxpayer money would not be used to bail out Lehman, but she has no problem taking taxpayer money to fund her and John's campaign. Nice.

HER "VOICE" GETS ON MY NERVES – She sounds like she's "WHINING" all the time – even when she's not!!! Hillary had some "base" in her voice – more definition – more "believable". It's very difficult to WATCH PA'IN for a period of time. IT'S LIKE "SCRAPING" YOUR FINGERNAILS ON A BLACKBOARD!!!!

Whew!!! OBADEN 2008-2016 YES WE CAN!!!

I'm glad there is a new speech. All the other ones were just a repeat of the first...

Aw look, her speech writer is at it again. When will this woman actually answer a question from voters? I feel like everything that comes out of her mouth is pre-written and well rehearsed. She's like a puppet. They gave her a 1-week crash course and told her exactly what to say and how to say it.

How can you elect a woman to the second highest office in the nation when you will have known her for less than 2 months?

Best stump speech a campaign speech writer could write for an ignoramus. I wonder if she answered any press or supporter questions immediately following or did she run to her caravan like some song bird after a concert. I'm glad you had to ask McCain what your job description is since you didn't know prior to being asked to be his VP. This is like a bad movie.

So after running from the news media, she NOW knows what a VP job will be?

Yeah, don't blame the Republican- dominated Congress that deregulated Wall Street and took away governmental oversight of the real estate market...I'm sure that had nothing to do with it...On the other hand, it's nice that they giving her some new scripts. No one likes summer re-runs or Rovian re-treads for that matter...

Oh Sarah – all those years attending multiple colleges taught you to parrot back quite eloquently whatever you're taught....nicely done...but the American voters (OK – except for the conservative extremists) are quickly discovering that beauty is indeed only skin deep....

Dick Cheney in a training ...but she's comin' along nicely, don't you think?

Well Sarah you said it was a task from God for Iraq war. It will also be a task from God to take you two out of this election. The lord works in mysterious ways. What goes around comes around. Sarah and John it is coming for you two.

  23. Vegas Barbie for Obama

Oh wow, a new "speech" after two weeks of the "best of" (?) her convention speech? (i.e., THANKS but no THANKS for that bridge to nowhere...I hear it in my nightmares). So it took her handlers HOW long to get her ready to speak actual thoughts of her own...provided she has any. But wait, her speech writers work for Bush, oh sorry, so these AREN'T her thoughts or her words. McCain + Palin = Gepetto and his puppet.
    OBAMA/BIDEN YES WE CAN!!

I am supposidly good in energy security and government reform and innovative cures for diseases. Can I become the Vice President or even the President of the US? I know McCain is a male chauvinist. I know how he will treat Palin. By the way, somebody wrote her another speech. Bring her out to a press meet.

Sarah is still out of touch; she can only read what the Party gives her to read. She will break out though and do her own thing because she does not agree with McCain; she just wants to be that Maverick in the WH. If we let her mis-steps as the GOP calls them but are really lies, derail us and have us to think that they can change the WH then we all need to sucking soup through a straw. Not only are we loosing money for foo, gas and insurance, nwo we're loosing those funds that we put away for old age. McCain doesn't need it; his wife is rich. Palin doesn't need it; AK has a surplus and she has her hands on and in the till. If she can charge the govt a perdiem for staying at home, what will she charge us if she's in the WH and flies to AK.

We must get serious and defeat this ticket while we still have power for our computers.
