Palin debuts new speech in Colorado

Palin unveiled a new stump speech Monday.
Palin unveiled a new stump speech Monday.

GOLDEN, Colorado (CNN) – With the tremors on Wall Street reverberating throughout the political world on Monday, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin unveiled a revised stump speech that focused on the troubled economy.

Palin blamed corporate executives for the failure of the investment bank Lehman Brothers, and said the government’s financial regulatory system “is outdated and needs a complete overhaul.

“Washington has been asleep at the switch and ineffective and management on Wall Street has not run these institutions responsibly and has put companies and markets at risk,” she said, adding that “every effort” has to be made to ensure that the bank deposits and investments of regular Americans remain solvent.

Echoing one of John McCain’s favorite lines, the Alaska governor said she was pleased taxpayer money would not be used to bail out Lehman, as it was following the collapse of Bear Stearns last spring.

Palin’s remarks in Colorado were lengthier and more involved than the stump speeches she has typically been giving on the campaign trail. In particular, Palin kept the focus on the nation’s economic concerns, telling the crowd she had cut taxes in Alaska (she did not mention that she had introduced a sales tax hike as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska.) She also highlighted her small town bona fides.

“My husband Todd and I, we have a commercial fishing operation,” she said. “My sister, she just opened a service station. Todd’s folks, they own a hardware store. We’ve all built small businesses and worked hard to earn a living. We know the struggles out there.”

“It’s the small businesses, the mom and pops that are the cornerstone of America,” she said.

For the first time, Palin outlined what her goals will be for the vice presidency, noting that she and McCain had spoken about her job description.

“My mission is going to be energy security and government reform,” she said. “And another thing near and dear to my heart, it's going to be helping families who have special needs and children with special needs. And we're going to be pushing for innovative cures for diseases.”

Palin’s youngest son Trig has Down Syndrome.

Media, in case she ever actually answers questions whose answers aren't on a teleprompter, could you ask her why she copied her husband on official emails, allowed him to conduct business in her office, uses a private email address for official business and won't release the emails as requested? You see, we've already had this kind of secretive and conniving VP and we aren't really interested in another one!

I suppose that Palin thinks that just as she's qualified in foreign policy because she can see Russia from Alaska (after all, Alaska was once part of Russia), so because she has a few dollars in her pocket she's qualified in economics. Next we'll hear that because she has a Lincoln Penny she's qualified to be president. Neither McCain nor Palin have a clue about the economy or the situation of the country. Neither of these people should be running for national, much less state or local, office.

Gov Palin has not been part of the Washington kill-the-other-party-but-do-nothing-else crowd, but BIDEN HAS.

How does she explain becoming mayor of a town of less than 7 000 which was debt free when she took office. After receiving over 23 million dollars in earmarks thanks to a lobbyist she hired, she left this small town 22 million dollars IN DEBT!!

Talk about an empty suit (skirt) ... this woman is so far over her head as a VP nominee and she is simply too full of herself to even understand what a joke she actually is! She chose to have a child at her advanced age and now has a baby with "special needs" ... AND NOW she wants to help other families in her situation, but she doesn't even want to persaonally take care of her own baby ... I would have thought breast feeding would be something near and dear to the heart of such a fine Christian woman???

Looks like they finally wrote a new speech for her. She was beginning to sound like a broken record. "I said thanks but no thanks for that bridge to nowhere" Give me a break. We don't need a puppet in the white house.

Governor Sarah Palin is authentically in touch with mainstream Americans! :)

Obama fakes it but doesn't make it. He cannot fake authenticity. Remember, he is the guy who talked behind closed doors about bitter Americans turning to guns, religion and bigotry! :(

McCain/Palin 08! They will deliver the authentic reform Americans can believe in! And, they will do it with integrity! :)

“If you think those lobbyists are working day and night for John McCain just to put themselves out of business, well I’ve got a bridge to sell you up in Alaska.”

Isn't McCain's chief economic advisor Phill Gramm, who is the most recent and most powerful proponent of DEREGULATION of Wall Street? 'Google" his name and deregulation and you'll see all kinds of adamant comments about how government should stay out of big business. Now Palin says they are going to reform Wall Street? Another GOP "tell em whatever they want to hear- they go for God, Motherhood and apple pie". Mindboggling

FOR A WOMAN WHO GOES ON AND ON ABOUT HELPING FAMILIES WITH DISABLED CHILDREN, NAME ONE TRIP SHE HAS TAKEN TO GIVE A SPEECH WITH HER HUSBAND NEXT TO HER, AND ASK YOURSELF, "WHO IS TAKING CARE OF THE CHILDREN?"

"WHO IS TAKING CARE OF TEH NEW BABY?" PALIN'S FAMILY VALUES ARE TWISTED!

REALLY!!! Why are they focusing on the economy now? I thought their whole deal was about livestock cosmetics. Someone must have given them a hint..lol. Now McCain is worried about the workers..lol. If it wasn't such a serious crisis maybe their point of view would be funny..

Hopefully they'll only manage to fool themselves..but I strongly doubt it.

  24. Palin = Runner- Up:

Well, just as she was a runner-up 20 + years ago-she will be a runner-up again. Here she goes with her "I'm A Woman And You Should Vote For Me" attitude. No thanks. I'm sick of her ugly face. She is a very ugly devisive person inside and out and I hope she gets called out in her lies real soon.
