Palin debuts new speech in Colorado

Palin unveiled a new stump speech Monday.

GOLDEN, Colorado (CNN) – With the tremors on Wall Street reverberating throughout the political world on Monday, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin unveiled a revised stump speech that focused on the troubled economy.

Palin blamed corporate executives for the failure of the investment bank Lehman Brothers, and said the government’s financial regulatory system “is outdated and needs a complete overhaul.

“Washington has been asleep at the switch and ineffective and management on Wall Street has not run these institutions responsibly and has put companies and markets at risk,” she said, adding that “every effort” has to be made to ensure that the bank deposits and investments of regular Americans remain solvent.

Echoing one of John McCain’s favorite lines, the Alaska governor said she was pleased taxpayer money would not be used to bail out Lehman, as it was following the collapse of Bear Stearns last spring.

Palin’s remarks in Colorado were lengthier and more involved than the stump speeches she has typically been giving on the campaign trail. In particular, Palin kept the focus on the nation’s economic concerns, telling the crowd she had cut taxes in Alaska (she did not mention that she had introduced a sales tax hike as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska.) She also highlighted her small town bona fides.

“My husband Todd and I, we have a commercial fishing operation,” she said. “My sister, she just opened a service station. Todd’s folks, they own a hardware store. We’ve all built small businesses and worked hard to earn a living. We know the struggles out there.”

“It’s the small businesses, the mom and pops that are the cornerstone of America,” she said.

For the first time, Palin outlined what her goals will be for the vice presidency, noting that she and McCain had spoken about her job description.

“My mission is going to be energy security and government reform,” she said. “And another thing near and dear to my heart, it's going to be helping families who have special needs and children with special needs. And we're going to be pushing for innovative cures for diseases.”

Palin’s youngest son Trig has Down Syndrome.

How long did she have to rehearse this one after the speech writers handed it to her.
Let's see her unscripted! "in what regards, Charlie?"

She could not sell a plane on ebay, how is she going to fix the economy?

You need experience to fix the economy not tough or cheap speeches.

The more the Obama campaign concentrates on attacking Palin the stronger she looks, and the more pathetic he looks. If he is trying to match his record to the GOP's VP candidate it's telling that he really isn't qualified to take the top post.

  7. Typing in all caps and whining about Rove isn't an argument.

Rep. Charlie Rangel (D) had to hire a forensic acc’t just to figure out how much he cheated on his own taxes.

Hey, did anyone notice that CNN hasn’t reported on that story yet?
    Hmmmm…..

I'm glad Palin debuted this new speech today. That oughta be good for another 3-5 days of Obama forgetting about issues altogether and obsessing over Palin.

How about tax payer money that went out to bail out A.I.G.?
Palin should just tell Americans we are a bunch of whiners. Because that's what we are. We are in a mental recession.
    Whine, whine, whine, whine, whine.....

What.......no questions from her audience? Oh, that's right; she's not allowed to venture out on her own for comments and questions.

Maybe when she grows up the campaign may let her answer ONE question.

The Republicans themselves are trying to distance themselves from Palin. Right so, they have their own butts to save.

“If you think those lobbyists are working day and night for John McCain just to put themselves out of business, well I’ve got a bridge to sell you up in Alaska.” – Obama 9/15/08

    Great comment Obama!

McCain and Palin will be that "Bridge to nowhere."

Toll charge: 4 more years of Bush.

Read the Wall Street numbers and WEEP, AMERICA!!! I'm sure your 401K dollars are plunging severely right about now... and YOU PEOPLE WANT 4 MORE YEARS OF THIS? HAHAHA ARE YOU MENTAL OR WHAT??

4 more years of the last 8 years will take our nation out of the 'GREAT NATION' status that we enjoy so much. Go ahead... vote for another Republican President so all of us can lose our jobs, our homes, our 401K's, and our pride as the greatest nation on this planet. At our current downslide, we should qualify as a 3rd-world country in 4 years.

WAKE UP, AMERICA!!! VOTE SMART... NOT SENILE!!

Good to see she can read a speech written for her to read off the teleprompter. She's not fooling anyone.....

She might as well have been in Washington all these years, she has fallen right into place behind Bush, McCain. I don't know about you, but I can't afford 4 more days, let alone 4 more years. My 401(K) went in the tank today.
