Obama's abortion record under fire in latest independent ad

A new Independent ad is targeting Obama's abortion record.
A new Independent ad is targeting Obama's abortion record.

(CNN) – A newly formed anti-abortion group is taking direct aim at Barack Obama, launching a television ad in key campaign states that features a 31-year old survivor of an abortion procedure.

The ad is only one of a handful of newly-launched independent television commercials hitting airwaves in recent weeks as the final stretch of the presidential campaign begins.

BornAliveTruth.org, an independent expenditure group known as a 527, is hitting airwaves in New Mexico and Ohio with a 30-second spot that criticizes the Democratic presidential nominee for voting against the Born Alive Infants Protection Act in when he was an Illinois state senator. Obama has said the Illinois state Senate version of that bill was an attempt to undermine Roe vs. Wade, and said Illinois already had a law that insured life saving treatment was given to survivors of abortion procedures.

Watch: New ad targets Obama on abortion

The group was founded by Jill Stanek, a columnist to the conservative for Web site World Net Daily, who has made controversial statements in the past expressing her opposition of abortion rights. Under the headline “Faithful condom users die,” she wrote on her Web site in March that efforts to post billboards in Tanzania with the words "Faithful Condom Users" next to a picture of a large skeleton should be supported.

The new ad features Gianna Jessen, who survived a late-term abortion procedure in 1977 and says in the ad, "If Barack Obama had his way, I wouldn't be here."

“Can you imagine not giving babies their basic human rights, no matter how they entered our world?" Jessen says in the ad. "Four times, Barack Obama voted to oppose a law to protect babies left to die after a failed abortion. Senator Obama, please support born alive infant protections. I’m living proof these babies have a right to live.”

Interesting that a fellow POW and Veteran opposes the election of John McSame.

His many anti-Veteran votes in the Senate will come back to haunt him in November.

From what I read is that the reason Obama signed the bill, or opposed whatever it was is the bill had a definition that aborted fetuses are "people". If it went through, they could have followed up with a bill to make abortion illegal, and that would have been an end to abortion.....in Illinois

My Body, my choice? It's not your body that those of us who are against abortion care about. It is the body of that which is inside of you. As a pro-life/Anti-abortion supporter I could really care less what you do with your body. Get a tattoo, pierce something, brand yourself, shave your head, cut off a limb, I could care less. But the body inside of you is NOT YOU. It is a completely unique living being that deserves the same rights, protections, and priviledges that you are provided in THE Constitution. If it makes you sleep better at night by simply refusing to accept that this life is indeed a human being then I have no pity on you and hope God has more mercy on your soul than I would.

This has nothing to do with Roe v Wade. These babies survived outside of the womb after an abortion attempt. In any definition they are living humans and deserve the same care as anybody else. For Obama not to support this, even with wording saying that it cannot be used to tear down Roe V Wade is disgusting. CNN should not that he did not vote for it even when it clearly stated that it could not be used to overturn Roe V Wade.

My body, my choice. If you're against abortion, don't have one, but don't tell me what I can do with my own body. I hate the way abortion is used as birth control in this country - but I will defend until death my right to make my own choice on this issue.

Think, folks, if abortion were to become illegal again, do you really think it would stop? Did it ever stop, before it was legal? Of course not - but most of you are too young to remember those days. I'm not. Many women and their fetuses died in those days from back room butchers.

    More lies? Goodness!

I Guess forcing every woman to have unwanted children, will fix the economic mess that America is now in!

It seems to me that her argument should be with her mother and father. She wants to point fingers at everyone but the one responsible.
Obama only wants to give women a choice...It was her mother who MADE the actual decision. Once again more Carl Rove tactics from the McBush candidacy. The Crooked Talk Express.

527 groups pretty much lie like Sarah Palin.

Time to get medieval with McCain. He let our Iraq war vets lie in coackroach-infested run down hospitals with sewage backing up in the toilets, while approving money for Haliburton to run their war-profiteering operation.

If Republicans respected a woman's right to have her own opinion regarding her body, they wouldn't make that choice illegal.

    The hypocrisy is simply stunning.

I believe that the law that Senator Obama voted against undermined Roe V Wade in it's entirety, not just late-term abortions. You have to read the whole thing not just a section and take it out of context. If you want specifically late-term abortions out-lawed then make that a specific issue.

I am against abortion entirely except in cases of incest, life of the mother or rape, war, the death penalty, poverty in the US, not giving children health care. Republicans – all they make of the pro-life issue is abortion. All of the above mentioned are pro-life issues.

However, Roe V Wade gave women a choice (a safe lawfule choice). I don't believe in abortion used as a birth control method, but I do not want a woman losing her life due to an back alley abortion. It is up to the individual to make that choice and to live with it. We do not have a right to judge.

    So what's the point here?
You survived it, meaning you're in for it. With Republicans, you wouldn't have had the chance to have it at the first place. So where do you belong?

I'm more interested in the POW who was captive with McCain who believes McCain lacks the temperment to be Commander in Chief. This is not a swiftboat ad because the man was there and is giving his opinion. This flaw in his character has been attested to by many from both sides of the aisle who have worked with him.

McCain is running on his military service and yet has only released 60 pages of a 600 page file. What is McCain hiding??

Palin would force a woman to keep the baby of someone who brutally raped her.

Where are we going with this? Do we as a country want to overturn Roe v Wade?

Obviously, teaching just abstinence doesn't always work.

We are not talking about pro-choice issues here. We are saying that ok the mother decided to have an abortion, but guess what??? The Baby didn't die. Now what? Mr. Obama supports letting the baby slowly die instead of giving that child medical care so they survive. That is horrible... absolutely terrible.
