Allies of Gov. Palin are asking for a judge to half the trooper probe.
Allies of Gov. Palin are asking for a judge to half the trooper probe.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) — Allies of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin asked a judge Tuesday to halt the state Legislature's investigation into the firing of her public service commissioner, calling the probe a "McCarthyistic" inquisition.

The five Republican state lawmakers who filed suit say the leaders of the investigation "are unable to hold the balance between vindicating their own political interests and the interests of those who are being investigated."

Palin, the Republican nominee for vice president, is battling allegations that she and her advisers pressured then-Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan to fire a state trooper going through a bitter custody dispute with her sister — and that Monegan was terminated when he refused. Palin says she fired Monegan over budget issues, and denies any wrongdoing.

She originally pledged to cooperate with the investigation that a bipartisan commission of the state Legislature commissioned in July. But since becoming Sen. John McCain's running mate, campaign spokesmen have lashed out at the probe as "tainted" and "partisan."

I'm confused. Why are the polls close given so much Republican baggage? I expected a lead of at least 12% in favor of Obama-Biden.

Andy   September 16th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

This is the last straw. If she has nothing to hide, then why fight it!!!

Also, she is blaming Obama for starting the investigation. Yea, right! Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought this investigation started before she was even brought on board the Republican "train to no where".

I guess the McCains can make this go away, but that sure won't answer any questions and make it apparent that the type of ruling she does is just that. She rules with an iron fist. Out of my way if you disagree with me and I'll give you a great job w/ great pay if you do. How many different ways does the press have to put these things out there before people see what Palin really is and get as far away from her and her high-handed politics as they can.

Tina Fey does a better job of Sarah Palin than Sarah Palin does.

Ana   September 16th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

If there ain't no evidence to the contrary of her innocence, why does Palin care so much about Elton and French. Gimme a break…sounds like more snow to mask the dirty tracks.

EXCUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSE ME. This a legistative investigation being conducted by an bipartisain commission so that no one can claim political biais. She agreed to cooperate, but then again that was before she became important, after all she was only the Governor of Alaska at that time.

If there no smoke why not let the fireman in so you get a clean bill of health, on the other hand where there's smoke there is normally fire.

Above the law, outside the reach of legislative oversight, no one is above the law and no one is beyond the reach of oversight. That is of course unless you name is Cheney/Palin it appears.

Ever notice that the Republicans dislike lawyers and law suits, but watch them use the system to their advantage when they get their backs against a wall (Bush v. Gore, for example).
———————————————-

Very weird statement, given the current situation.

And by the way, it's Republicans who normally hate lawyers and knee-jerk lawsuits.

Get your talking points straight.

KL   September 16th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

I do not understand Palin, she was all for the investigation before she became the VP, now she has McCain involved in this. The investigation as I understand it was on going before she became the VP. If she has nothing to hide, why stop now Palin. Come clean and show the people of Alaska and the other states you did nothing wrong. If you do not this will be hanging over you for years to come. McCain I believe did not do his home work on picking his VP, if he did he would have known that there was an investigation going on with his choice of VP. Looking at what she would be doing as VP it is not much, they have given her the job if elected that they know she cannot mess up. People of America, do you really want another 4 years of Bush, because if you put McCain into office that is what you will have. For him to state that nothing is wrong and then the news comes about Wall Street tumbling, there is something wrong here. McCain better do his research on things before he opens his mouth on what is going on in the good USA.

dee   September 16th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

they are hauntingly the same Please AMERICA I pray we do not make the same mistake we cannot have 4 more years of this NO WAY NOW HOW NO MCCAIN NO PALIN WAKE WE CANNOT STAND ANOTHER SECTION OF THIS PLEASE NO NO ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Fran   September 16th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

An investigative report on the Sunday New York Times is very revealing and raises questions on Palin's temperament and political practices. One her friends even stated that when discussing Palin's future political career, Palin revealed her goal was to ultimately become President! It is of grave concern that someone with so little depth and knowledge, and who displays complete certainty about matters she knows nothing about, has been placed (by 72-year old McCain) one heartbeat away from becomeing President!

Fed Up   September 16th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

Oops.

The skeleton's already out of the closet. This isn't going to put it back in. I know we shouldn't worry because McSame and Palin have plenty of others in there ready to fall out.

Remember McSame's lame gas tax holiday? A whole lot of good that would have done us … NOT!

Well, at least Palin sold the Governor's plane on eBay. Oh, that's not true either? What a surprise.

Go Obama!!!

rice, bryan   September 16th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

if you throw enough money at a problem they tend to go away, and that's what they think will happen here. in july it was a bipartisan commision, in september it's tainted. i'm sorry cheaney, i mean palin, how can it be good one time then an attack the next. you are learning quick, flip-flop, 8 years ago kerry was accused of this, then we voted in a dim wit. the gop is claiming swift boat attacks, 8 years ago it worked for a coke head, and hard drinking dim wit.

Susan   September 16th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

This all started before she was the nominee. She was picked by McCain on 8/29. The investigation started in July, and she did not objest because she claimed she had nothing to hide. This attempt to hide the truth from the American people by a ridiculous lawsuit is beyond the pale, and once again proves that the Republicans think they are aboe the law of this country! I for one, am sick of it! ENOUGH!!! OBAMA/PALIN 08!!

Roberto   September 16th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

This is too important to go away and will backfire on Palin as the free press, involved parties, Democrat investigators, a possible legal challenge coming back on Palin and the time available for this to develop before election day produce the facts.

TBNNashuaNH   September 16th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

If they are suing to stop an investigation, regardless of whether it has ulterior motives or not, it makes me thing that Gov. Palin did something inappropriate. Of course, the plaintiffs will claim that there is no cooperation between the McCain/Palin campaign and these five legislators, but we all know that there certainly is. It may not be explicit, but there certainly is cooperation.

As someone who was undecided on whom to vote for, this really makes the decision easy. This definitely makes me want to vote for Obama. I am sure this is going to backfire on the McCain/Palin camp.

Michael, Farmington, NH   September 16th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

Someone who has nothing to hide would welcome an investigation no matter who is investigating.

Palin has a big old "guilty" sign hanging around her neck.

Heather Seattle, Wa   September 16th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

sl   September 16th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

Why would we even want to start the next 4 yrs this way. If she has nothing to hid then she should answer the questions. Its not an ordanary situation she is running for Vice President, come on people! I am not so sure that we should be concerned about who is asking the questions, let's focus on the fact that she won't answer. Why would anyone vote for her on McCains ticket (lets face it she could become president if he dies) if she can't even be honest and upfront now!!! I can not believe that the AMERICAN public would even tolorate this after what we have been through with the current administration.

The reason is this is starting to get out of control, and you Dems just keep on trying to make nothing into something, with the absence of anyone actually saying fire the trooper there is no case, plus no one heard palin or one of her people say this guy is fired because he would not fire the trooper, good luck getting that wont happen , so this is a waste of time, we need to quit feedind the oberman, mathews looneys out there. This is a story that is being kept alive by these loon bins.

joyce   September 16th, 2008 3:41 pm ET

Governor Palin should have began with telling the truth from the beginning. Now she has been caught in so many mistruths, fictions, fabrications and yes, lies. Everyone wants to know what the real truth is and that is not much to ask seeing as though she wants to be the Vice President of the United States.

Governor Palin has to realize that this is part of the package deal when she becomes Vice President. She is under the scrutiny of all the people not just the Republican base of the United States. Maybe she wants to reconsider her position and go back to Alaska, where she can live her life of cloak and dagger and I am the Queen Bee of this ship lifestyle.

She is PERFECT for the job of VP. Let's see…..
1. her administration used personal email addresses to do the "state business" so that they could claim the correspondences were not subject to open records act..or to the law. CHECK…so did the Bush admin.
2. tell her staff not to cooperate or appear if called by the investigators to testify. CHECK…so did the Bush admin
3. cover up scientists findings (fudge or ignore scientific data) if the data did not support her own beliefs about global warming… CHECK…so did the Bush admin.
4. villify and bully anyone who disagrees with any policy….or any position she espouses… CHECK…so did the Bush Admin
5. wrap yourself in the flag (literally)…and lay exclusive claim to patriotism….CHECK…so did the Bush Admin.

SHE IS PERFECTLY QUALIFIED for VP!!!

lee quinton   September 16th, 2008 3:41 pm ET

The supporters of Palin are trying to block the legislative probe on the basis of the alleged bias of the investigators. They are willing, however, to let a personnel board probe continue. Who are the people on the personnel board the republicans are willing to let hear the matter? Are they Palin appointees/supporters? Something smells about this republican appearance of co-operation…

Mike from Calgary   September 16th, 2008 3:41 pm ET

Palin undertook to co-operate with the Legislative Investigation and has RENEGED on that undertaking. She will no longer answer questions about her influence peddling, she won't answer questions from the media … and she has LIED about the Bridge to Nowhere, she has lied about taxes, and she has lied about ….. there she goes again.

With all respect, if this were a real jury trial, it would be an immediate mistrial due the comments made in public by one of the triers of fact who said, "this may be an october suprise." That is clear predisposition thinking. in a legislative context, it is clearly impartial, aka red scare inquiries. Why would anyone want to be subjected to that. No "regular citizen" would deal with that.

She has made statements on the issue, aka "come clean," but obviously her side of the events are not accepted at face value. They should not be held at face value. They need to be coorborated by other evidence. Otherwise, why have the inquiry?

There are checks and balances in our system that keep those in power from abusing the power. they do live under different rules when those rules apply to their position of governance. if she commited a criminal offense outside the scope of her work, she'd be under the same rules as the rest of us.

Please speak informatively all of you.

MikeH   September 16th, 2008 3:40 pm ET

1. She lies about refusing earmarks ($453 million in under 2 yrs)

2. She lies about saying No to the Bridge to Nowhere, and took the money anyway

3. She continues to lie that Alaska provides 20% of the US energy. In fact it provides only 3.5%

4. She took taxpayer money so she could work from home (Crawford, Texas anyone?)

5. She had taxpayers provide her with a tanning bed.

Hmm… I wonder if she has anything to cover up…

McCain=Bush … Palin=Cheney

First Gov. Cam   September 16th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

Why isn't the media bringing up the point that the McCain camp is saying they want an impartial inquiry yet their idea of "impartial" is having the matter decided by a review board who are appointed by (and presumably answerable to) the Governor herself?

I mean, the very nature of the complaint against her should dictate that anyone under her direct influence regarding their ability to keep their job should NOT be the ones deciding her fate.

There is absolutely no proof that the invesetigation is tainted. They are just tryng to stall.

Only in America could a politician who is CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION for abuse of power be tapped as a VP candidate and present herself as the anti establishment who will clean up Washington.

POST THIS CNN, don't leave it in moderation as these are important facts that people need to know!

Plain not wanting to cooperate with the investigation reflects even more on the poor judgment of McCain and his staff. I don’t feel that she was properly interviewed and investigated by the McCain political staff. The Republicans since the primaries have been trying to slam both Obama and Clinton and now that they are under the microscope they want to cry foul. Maybe she is the pit bull she clams to be after all, it’s their nature to kill without mercy and if not trained properly they have the potential to be very dangerous and that’s how I see the Republican ticket, a very dangerous situation for America. Political ambition seems to be what drives the McCain/Palin ticket not the needs of the American people.

TLF   September 16th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

Sarah Palin has more skeletons in her closet than Ted Bundy. That coupled with the irrational way her supporters, who know nothing about her either, defend her makes me worried for the future of America if the Palin/McCain ticket gets elected. Luster is wearing off Palin QUICK!! She lied about the bridge to no where and accepted millions in pork and earmarks. She doesnt know what the Bush doctrine is even though I understand it and Im not running for VP. This investigation proves that she is unethical and will abuse the power she is given. Besides being new she brings absolutely nothing to the table.

Tay   September 16th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

My question would be; If the only one's that she will answer are the on the board, who appointed those on the board to those positions?

That is the big question here, having looked at how she 'cleaned house' in her administration when she took over, appointing a woman who 'liked cows' as a kid to the high paid agriculture position and other various high school and church friends to positions they clearly weren't qualified for, then I have to ask, did she appoint these board members she's so willing to give testimony and evidence to?

Bob H   September 16th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

There is a great deal of difference between "coming clean" and participating in an obviously politically motivated investigation. Look at the history of Obama elections. In the Illinois Senate election, he challenges the petitions of 3 other opponents, leaving him unopposed in the election. In his US Senate race, he has the divorce records of his opponent exposed at a time that does not give the Republicans time to field a credible opponent. In the primaries earlier this year, he has the votes of Michigan and Florida eliminated by the DNC, thus enabling him to maintain his momentum and secure the nomination. Then, he consents to permitting these delegates to vote at the convention. Now, his operatives are doing everything they can to discredit Sarah Palin. They know she has popped their balloon and their only option is to find a way to "eliminate" her, just as they have done in many other elections with other candidates. This time, however, their chicanery and slight of hand is not going to work. Sarah Palin, John McCain and the American people are too smart to permit such partisan political gamesmanship to prevail.

Not Surprised   September 16th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

Just like the rest of them, Palin should be in jail….

Move forward with the investigation and when she is proven involved (which is a 100% given) then summon her to court. When she does not show, put her behind bars for a little bit.

After this, Bush can give her a complete pardon and we can move forward as planned.

RJ   September 16th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

LOL. Alaskan politics are no different than Washington politics. So much for the "outsider" theory.

I believe we have stumbled onto the new AREA 51, Gov. Palin.

RobD   September 16th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

Sadly, I believe that Palin genuinely was willing to have the investigation. But the McCain legal team is afraid of the consequences and they are telling her now to handle the investigation just like they told her what to say in her speeches.

The firing itself is not a huge deal. Even if she did it as accused, she could be chastised, Monegan compensated, and move on. The coverup, however, is a big deal. And the growing evidence of inappropriate involvement by Todd Palin in many aspects of government is a big deal. The possible sharing of confidential information from Wooten's personnel file and worker's comp file is probably the biggest deal of all.

Come on, McCain and Palin. Don't let this thing hang over your heads as well as ours. Come clean, and facilitate a quick investigation and resolution. Bring it all out, have one bad day, and move on – so the voters can make their judgement on the facts. We deserve that. We demand that.

WE CANNOT HAVE ANOTHER 4 YEARS OF THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Michael   September 16th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

WOW, a Lawsuit against itself?? That is amazing!!!

Hummm, lets see:
First she was for the Bridge to Nowhere, Then she was against it?
First she was actively seeking Ear-marks, (and still is), Now she is against them.
First she agreed to cooperate, and even claimed to order, an investigation,: But know she won't cooperate.

What about reform Gov. Palin? What about Transparency? Both the people on the GOP ticket claim to be agents of Change, but as we can see, it really is "More of the Same"

There is a saying that goes something like this: You can put purfume on a pig, but it still stinks!!!!!

The more and more I look at this, the more and more I realize why she has been shielded from true public scrutany and that of the MSM.

America, can you honestly and truly believe that John McCain has the judgment to lead this country? I cannot believe that Gov. Palin was fully vetted properly, if she was, I am sure this would have come up as a potential problem. Again I point to this as mearly an attempt to court and pander to women who may be disaffected by Sen. Clinton not winning the Dem. Nomination and her not being selected as VEEP.

Mike from Toronto   September 16th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

Sense of entitlement to ignore if not the rule of law, at the very least the scrutiny of it. When potentially damaging to them, to exercise “executive” privilege and trivialize the need to pursue the truth that the rest of society is duty bound to do. Hmmm, now where have we seen that behavior displayed before?

Example of maverick change or executive experience at work…the voter will have to decide!

Rosemary   September 16th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

Obama/Biden '08

-K&H-   September 16th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

The real truth is she does use her power to abuse. She is using her VP running as a power move to stop the investigation, of an abuse of power. Another form of abuse of power if she was not running she would be under investigation right now. The American's would have no idea who she is based on her being the most popular Gov of Alaska that I never heard of before he pick as McLiar's VP. She is a bulldog alright and will eat you alive.

banderson   September 16th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

It was the Republicans last week running an ad that the Democrats were sending lawyers to Alaska to go after Sarah. Yet now we see it is the Republicans using lawyers to stop a authorized legal proceeding to discern if laws or the public trust was abused. Deception, misdirection and propaganda, that is the Republican way. Republicans are always saying if you have nothing to hide then there is no problem. What a bunch of hypocrites. Wake up America!!!

John in Ohio   September 16th, 2008 3:36 pm ET

You know how when people get pulled over on Cops, and they'll say "go ahead, test me and everything, I is clean", and then they fail the field sobriety test and the breathalyzer test? This is what's going on with Palin. She said she'd cooperate, and the legislature called her bluff and actually investigated, and now she is trying to get out of it. No dice.

Ben   September 16th, 2008 3:35 pm ET

Growing up, I was always told by my parents that if you have nothing to hide you have no problem in cooperating with those trying to find the truth…..

There they go again — Republicans working to cover up crimes. Yet,if it was a black person or a latino woman or anyone the Rethugs don't see as human beings, they would be screeching in agony over the "crimes" being committed…

Hypocrisy, thy name is Republican.

Maria   September 16th, 2008 3:35 pm ET

I thought she wanted a transparent government. If that be the case, then why not talk with the investigator if there is nothing to hide. Makes me kind of wonder what else she is hiding.

She's lieing again..   September 16th, 2008 3:35 pm ET

Well, here we go again… More lies… Between McOld and the SP, I don't know who is better and faster at the lies… John tought her well and she is a fast learner.

Chuck   September 16th, 2008 3:34 pm ET

If the probe was started before Palin was selected by McCain as her running mate then how in the hell can the republicans say the probe is tainted and partisan.

If Palin agreed to participate with the investiagtion but now refuses (whether tainted / partisan or not which it can't be because the investigation started before her selection) then is she not going back on her word. Is she not hiding something that might be detrimental to her run as VP?

I think the answers are obvious but for those who support her and McCain, they can't see the forest for the trees.

rj   September 16th, 2008 3:34 pm ET

There are more republicans (6) and 4 democrats on this investigation committee! And it's tainted?????

If us ordinary people dismiss cooperating with the law like Palin did, we would be hauled to jail for contempt. Why should she get away with it? If she is innocent, she will have nothing to worry about.

Tom in CA   September 16th, 2008 3:34 pm ET

Of course Sarah will clean up Washington, DC – look how she's used her broom to sweep away Alaska's problems. Unfortunately, she's shown her true self through her own cronyism, vendettas and vindictiveness.

She's now letting her supporters use her broom to sweep her troopergate problems under the rug. However, she'll want it back when she gets to Washington, DC, and finds that 8 year old fish in the VP's desk drawer. But who knows…she'll probably keep the fish – it'll have lipstick on it now.

Baked Alaska   September 16th, 2008 3:34 pm ET

Wouldn't it be better to continue this investigation if Gov. Palin did nothing wrong? When the 'truth' came out, the 'partisans' would be the ones with egg on their faces. Don't the republicans see what they are doing?? I know–SILLY question!

Dana   September 16th, 2008 3:34 pm ET

I do not understand the committee that is investigating her is composed of 3 Republicans and 2 Dems… where is the unfairness?? What do you think she will try to do to those trying to bring her to justice now?

Transparent as to see the corruption, not to see how clean her record is.

The trooper used a taser against his own young son, he admitted this himself.

Multiple investigators are admitted and open Obama supporters.

Bring out the pitch forks and torches. She is a Republican so she must be a lying (right?)

If she was a democrat and these investigators were republicans you would be screaming how unfair the investigators were and trying to slur her reputation. Come on CNN you know you would….its OK we know you would.

You in the media seem so upset that the mean Gov Palin won't play with you you are going to get angry at her. Poor little news media.
Must have hurt your collective feelings.

To the rest of the country you look like spoiled angry children that are bitter that she wont talk to you. How dare she treat you like that right? Jesus, you all in the media need to grow up and stop acting so childish. 2008 the year the main stream media lost its objectivity and professionalism.

What does she have to hide? As VP running mate or hockey mom…if you're innocent of all charges then why not welcome the investigation? The republicans will argue that 2 senators are backers of obama…big whoop!….answers like those fall in the same category as the reason mccain gave the ladies on the view as to why he runs negative ads! I'm sure she abused her power…she;s to smug in her actions not to have! why not investigate the creamery closing controversy too? This investigation started before she was VP and contained 3 republicans and two democrats on the committee that gave the final go ahead. Palin has said she wants a more transparent government but won't answer questions about something she claims was legit? Not answering questions is a sign of guilt, everyone knows that.

I bet she made a deal when becoming the VP that the investigation would "go away." I just bet that is how things went down.

Beverly, NYC   September 16th, 2008 3:31 pm ET

I'm sure tomorrow this will be Obama's fault. I thought she told Charlie Gibson she had nothing to hide and would welcome the investigation. The truth shall set her free – to return to Alaska to shoot more wolves from a plane, fire more long term employees, take money for bridges and give it to the road to nowhere.

McCain likes to shoot from the hip and go with his gut. Is that what we want from a president? Sarah is a bully in the same vein as Cheney. Is that what we need as a vp?

America stand Up and VOTE for the team that will put us back on the right track. Obama/Biden will make decisions based on facts, knowledge and good judgment. We need an intelligent and thoughtful president. Obama is the only one that fits that description.

the truth now   September 16th, 2008 3:31 pm ET

Just like the rest of the republican hiarchy she is above the law. I heard the state of Alaska is dropping their probe. I guess the powers to be wield a pretty heavy hand in Alaska politics. I guess this means we will never know if she was running a personal vendetta. My opinion is she was.

cmc   September 16th, 2008 3:31 pm ET

brian   September 16th, 2008 3:30 pm ET

The reason she would not want to cooperate now is because there is now a bigger political reason for investigators or others to smear her or skew answers and follow a political agenda rather than a judicial proceedure. Any politician in a major election would do the same thing in order to avoid any partisan politiking or misinterpretation of answers to enter into the investigation. Face it… you would do the same thing if your reputation was one misquote away from obtaining your dream.

What is there really to investigate? Commissioner Monegan is on the record in August stating that neither Governor Palin nor her husband ever pressured him to fire the state trooper. And if you saw the trooper in question on CNN, you would realize that he should have been fired. But the lead investigator is obviously so biased against Governor Palin that he has already announced, before the investigation is really under way, that the findings will be an October surprise and harmful to Governor Palin.

Can you say "McCarthyism?" or "witch hunt?"

Sarah Palin is running for VP of the USA. She really does not have the luxury of not answering questions. This isn't the beauty pageant. This is an election. She is way over her head; otherwise, why is she not answering ANY questions? Why are there no news conferences? Why are "news people" giving her a free ride? You are reporters, as such, I expect you to interview EVERYONE running for President or VP in the upcoming election. This entire thing is silly. Give her a free ride the same as you did George W Bush 8 years ago…four years ago….and maybe we can have a war with Iran shortly after another Republican regime. I know that your boss is Republican…but this country, and certainly, the world, is at stake. If you all stood up to your bosses, maybe we could have some real reporting once again.

would'nt we just know that obama people are behind the investigation of palin's firing of the state trooper or whatever they are alleging. it is so not important, anyone but a woman as far as mr obama is concerned, they destroyed mrs clinton and now mrs palin. the untouchable obama should be confronted regarding his infantile behavior. as well as his inexperience and inability to lead our country. hopefully he will be asked about this in the debates. have we lost our freedom of speech as far as criticizing him is concerned?

Jon   September 16th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

Why not? The results were to be announced mere days before the election. Now that the McCain vetting team has finally figured out there is substance behind Palin's questionable actions, they are trying to delay the results until after the election.

Pathetic that they are trying to hide the truth from the people.

I feel like I am in an Obama pep rally. I guess we know who watches and reads CNN. Maybe all the hate that the dem's have scares Palin's people a little. There is no telling what they might come up with….true or not.

Jim   September 16th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

Of course Palin will cooperate with an investigation by the Personnel Board. The Governor of Alaska appoints the members of the Personnel Board.

Its Time   September 16th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

Sarah Palin is NO reformer she is a bag of tricks, lies and schemes. Time to peel away that facade and face the American people.

Marie   September 16th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

Does this really surprise anyone?

Michael in Seattle   September 16th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

J Skeezie   September 16th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

LOL. She's my choice for VP!

Sammy   September 16th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

Convenient. The problem is that the republicans have forgotten that the coverup is worse than the crime. Thing is, we dont even know if there was a crime because the investigation is ongoing and nothing has been proven. 'Politically motivated' is an old charge. To be fair much of the time its true… as Bill Clinton knows. But then again… he lied under oath so he did commit a crime. If he admitted to it when it happened it would have gone away eventually. He and his advisers made it worse.

Republican for Obama   September 16th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

This is the reason I am now voting democrat for the first time. The republican party has lost all its marbles with me. How can you trust Palin to VP affairs when she won't even talk with the officials from her own state?

Obama/Biden '08

Darrell   September 16th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

Yep this is going to count for experience for Palin. She can see Russia and now she will be an expert on what ?? She is above the law just like McCain. And this was such a great pick for VP.The Republicans keep bragging her up like she is the Queen of America. If you can't cooperate with a mostly Republican inquiry how do you expect to work in the Whitehouse ? I guess this prooves that even she knows how much she lies and is scared to cooperate. If she was out to tell the truth there would ne no need to hide and keep silent. She is a joke all the way around and Silent Sarah is only willing to speak from scripts.

No more Karl Rove Politics!!   September 16th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

McCain should allow Palin to cooperate with the commission in the Troopergate scandal.
How can anything they say be taken as credible when they are avoiding this inquiry that Palin originally agreed to participate? If she was found guilty, I'm sure Bush would pardon her anyway!

WHAT ARE THEY AFRAID OF IF THERE IS NOTHING TO HIDE??

SEND THE LIARS PACKING!

OBAMA/PALIN '08

John   September 16th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

And McCain and Palin say they are bringing change to Washington? Is this the change they are talking about?

This is crazy! This smells of Bush/Chaney and their many fronts to the rule of law and the abuse of executive privilege. She won't comply with investigators because they are "not one of them" WHAT A JOKE!

Obama is not much better but why do people vote for this stuff knowing this just because they hate gays and hate abortion and think like "religious" people?

I guess I don't know what a religious person is because religious people don't lie, block investigations, misuse power, etc. I just don't get it I guess.

Pete M in Columbus   September 16th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

Sounds like Palin is taking lessons from Cheney and Rove.

JUST SAY NO TO PALIN!

Sarah Plain and small   September 16th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

Hey republicans, remember when bush wanted to wiretap all of America, and people complained, and you said, "if you don't have anything to hide, why are you worried? you must have something to hide if you're complaining"… Sucks being on the other end of that argument huh?

Gary, Detroit   September 16th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

Get used to it people. Just wait till she gets in the White House, she will make Cheney look like the Pope. The American people are to stupid to realize they are being lied to so they should get exactly what they deserve. Hopefully the country goes into another depression so the Rethuglicans can be 2 for 2 on that subject.

joyce   September 16th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Governor Plain should cooperate with the investigation. What does she have to hide? She is entitled to be investigated if it is deemed necessary. Why cry foul when all candidates have had some form of investigation into their past.

Why should Governor Palin dictate who will do an investigation and who will not. Governor Palin is direcfting everyone to the Personnel Board because these are her friends and she will be vindicated through this avenue.

The Voice   September 16th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

This woman is creepy, scary!

Transparency please   September 16th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Bipartisan AK officials initially decided that an investigation is warranted. Bipartisan AK officials decided that subpoenas are in order. Investigation has been in place well before Gov. Palin was nominated to be VP of the US.
This is very shady and has the same stench as the current regime. How Cheney-like of Gov. Palin. Shameful conduct.

Richard Miller   September 16th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Something smells. So much for transparency. What else is she hiding?????

Pam   September 16th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Isn't the personal board made up of at least some Palin appointees? So let me understand this, she'll cooperate with a board of her choosing, but won't cooperate with the legislature because it is headed by Democratic senators?

Where does Ed O'Callaghan get his facts from about the report of Obama's campaign contacting Alaskan legislature? This was an interview on another network which showed that no information could be given to them in regards to this investigation. I am sure that O'Callaghan woulld not sway Americans to believe something that is not true would he??

FLIP-FLOOOOOOOOOP!!!!! so much for the "transparency and accountability" the repubs are promising- oh – that is for everyone except themselves- I forgot!

45 year old white lady for Obama   September 16th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

if she's innocent of any wrong doing then you'd think she would welcome the investigation to get it over with so that she could concentrate on the election. All I hear from the McCain campaign regarding this woman is everyone is picking on her. She and McCain better toughen up!! Isn't that the advice She gave Hillary??

KJ, CA   September 16th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Do you really want someone who is second in line to the most powerful position in the world to be someone who already has a history of absuing the power of the offices that she has held?

If she didn't do anything why is she trying to stop the investigation?

And, kinda puzzled how the Obama campaign is responsible for this when the investigation began in July?

Orlando   September 16th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Whatever happen to due process? It's starting to stink for Sarah.

Rudy NYC   September 16th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Fired over "budgetary issues" really does not make sense when you stop and think about it. Does that mean that she eliminated the top law enforcement position in the State of Alaska because the state budget could no longer afford the position?

Former McCain   September 16th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Lying, corruption, cover-ups, diversions, hypocrisy, stealing, polarization, and secrecy have sadly become the trademarks of the McCain campaign now. The partisan claim also does not carry much truth when there are 3 Republicans & 2 Democrats on the investgation. No more lies please.

Voting Obama.

aughhhh   September 16th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

She's just digging a deeper hole for herself and McCain by refusing to cooperate. It makes her look guilty and not trustworthy. The country is tired of being lied to, she needs to fully cooperate and the truth will come out. There are Republicans as well as Democrats on the investigation committee, so what does she have to fear? She is the female Bush.

I want to see an Obama ad stating all the issues surrounding troopergate and ending with the quote "What's she trying to hide?" Could be very effective.

Palin and Repugnants are a joke   September 16th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

Right, ist's Obama who started this investigation even before he even knew she was going to be a candidate. It doesn't matter who contacted who, it's just more of the same from McSame.

She wants to be the Vice President of the United States and do the same as bush and company has done to thwart investigations when they have broken the law. She wants it to be by her rules, to work with the personnel board who is partial to her. Do we want more of our constitution erodes by those who think they have USURP POWER!

What a joke this is the USA and nobody should be above the LAW!

alaskan guy   September 16th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

I hope no one is surprised by this move. They are getting increasingly shrill and seem to be panicking by what might be found. By the way, there are many legislative Republicans who are still backing the probe. Also, now there are NEW reasons given why Monegan was fired. Why are these being cited now? And what happened to the promise we heard of an "open and transparent" administration? In Alaska, we have two kinds of rivers—those that flow out of glaciers and those that don't. Those that DON'T flow out of glaciers are crystal clear. Those that DO flow out of glaciers are gray and murky. Like the communications that come out of the administration. Why the secrecy? Why the private e-mail accounts for state business?

The rest of the country may be surprised to know that the very Dems she is criticizing now were her greatest supporters in the AGIA process. And it MAY be her own party who is trying to bring her down.

Latina for Obama   September 16th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

Sarah, what's the matter? Do you have a few skeletons hiding in your closet?

d langdonse   September 16th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

Warren Buffett who is a huge supporter of Obama was asked in an interview if he would hire Obama as his replacement. His response was that Obama's skill set was not suited to such a role. Who ever is taking these non issues about Palin and turning them into something are making a grave error as once again she dominates the news cycle. Look at the polls people — McPalin should be trailing by 20 points but instead they are gaining.

Mary   September 16th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

What's Palin afraid of???? Now she's refusing to answer questions about Trooper-Gate. The McCain camp is basically sequestering her when she reads her speeches from the monitor. Somebody needs to pull the plug when she's giving a speech. I think she'll break down like a zombie Stepford wife and won't know what to say. Give it up, Sarah. You are not qualified to become the V.P. Stay home with your kids, who right now could use your help a ton; teenager pregnant, son shipped off to military because of drug use, and a Down syndrome baby. Whew!!!!

jstertn   September 16th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

It's no more than Obama lied about Tony Rezo, william Ayers,REV Wright. Sat in the church 20 years and didn't hear the things that Rev Wright said. Everybody knows that he was lying. And still is. He was
right with all of those crooked men.

Deborah Parcell   September 16th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

Just watched an interview with Palin spokesman concerning probe. He insisted that the Personel Board of Alaska was appropriate place for investigation. Question???Who appointed the Board members?

jeremy   September 16th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

I smell the stench of guilt. Your not getting out of this one! We already had scandals in the white house and that is one place where you will never be….

gl   September 16th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

Palin is a liar and a cheat and I am not going to set around and let this woman ran the White House. The American people have had enough of dishonest, lies, distortion, and the rich keep getting rich.

RT   September 16th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

For someone who claims to want to make Washington politics "transparent" why don't you show a little more transparency yourself Mrs. Palin?

Funny, five Republican lawmakers calling the investigation partisan when its being conducted by a bipartisan commission. The committee is made up of 3 Republicans and 2 Democrats. Oh, and don't forget that the investigation is the Obama campaign's fault even though it started before she was named VP nominee.

danny kun of vancouver   September 16th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

First she refuse to answer questions from the media now she is refusing to cooperate in this investigation.

Remember Valerie Plame, Americans wake up!

Jeff   September 16th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

Hypocrisy…
The Hypocrisy of the Religious Right is unbelievable, reminiscient of the Pharisees and Sadduccees, they ought to be ashamed of themselves. As a Christian, Palin needs to be honest and transparent. This should remind everyone of the hypocritical morals/ethics these Republicans have. Just look at the Bush Admin. and the Jack Abramoff Scandals… that party is so full of deception, slander, and immorality! They have no moral ground to stand on, so they are slinging mud at Obama. Nice… real nice.

faye, NV   September 16th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

This lady is hiding quite a few things, secrets can be revealed if the investigator talk to the right ones. Whatever happens this case does not need to be closed.

Chris   September 16th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

B-b-b-but it was a BIPARTISAN commission (with a 3-2 Republican majority!) that sanctioned this investigation! I am shocked by this move and even more surprised that I am shocked in the first place.

Palin is just another, corrupt, secretive "aw shucks" politician from a backwoods state who has complete disrespect for the laws which us normal people have to abide by. As the sheen wears off, McCain is starting to slip again in the polls and this is only the beginning.

OK, so she is hard right wing (which is fine, everyone has their own political views), relatively inexperienced (OK, too in mitigating circumstances), wholly unqualified (not OK), unable to speak to the issues facing this country except in campaign talking points, corrupt and a bald faced liar on the stump. Or worse, she is not lying and just doesn't know what she is talking about.

Aren't conservatives thinking that they may have made a huge mistake here? This was the first major decision by John McCain and his risk is backfiring. Sarah Palin is not ready to be president.

Maya   September 16th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

wow. this is getting pretty ridiculous. Sarah Palin is supposed to be all about transparency, right? Well, her corrput web of lies is gettng pretty transparent. good job Sarah, you were finally honest about something.

JH   September 16th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

The McCain/Palin rep that was just on CNN says it should go to the impartial Personnel Board, you do realize Palin appointed all 3 people on that board, eight?

Frank   September 16th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

She is not even in office and the GOP is suing to stop an investigation. Sounds like a page out of the Bush/Cheney playbook.

How can anyone say this ticket will be different from the current administration when they have already proven they can't even run a camaign without a scandals popping up everywhere they turn???

Darrel from Denver   September 16th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

And 5 Republicans standing up to try to block the investigation is not partisan and tainted?

Hypocrite is what she is…and likely guilty. Otherwise, they would let it play out unimpeded.

gary   September 16th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

Sounds like good old Bush tactics again…

TrueTrue   September 16th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

Sarah Palin is just there to get the women vote and getJohn McCain in the White House. Once he is elected the investigation will continue then she will have to step down and let the real vice president choice take the seat.

April in Texas   September 16th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

This whole Troopergate is giving me a headache.. This all happened before, I repeat BEFORE she was a VP choice and therefore it should proceed period. She said she would cooperate and then went back on that… She is looking more and more guilty every step so far that I have seen..

Rudy NYC   September 16th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

It would appear that Camp McCain/Palin wants to make this a political issue in the national campaign. They need a better reason than the one they claimed today.

The format for the investigation began before she even knew what the VP of the USA actually does on a day to day basis. The people were selected prior to her being announced as nominee.

Palin just told the American people on ABC EVening News that she would fully cooperate. Her credibility just went out the window. Do you think anyone is going to notice or care?

Jason in AZ   September 16th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

Just show us all that she has something to hide and is not fit to be the Vice President. It is scary when someone who wants to be VP of The United States is trying to hide the truth and yet people are supporting this woman? Come on America wake up and see what is going on here!

James B. New Jersey   September 16th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

Then investigation started proir to her pick now that it has become a problem she doesn't want to cooperate. At first McCains press person (The one with the great smile) Said that no one would fault Palin because of what the trroper was accused of. I guess they underestimated the peoples belief in innocent before proven guilty.

Richard   September 16th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

If there is nothing to hide why is she hiding? If I didn't cooperate with an investigation I'd be locked up. Maybe she should spend some time behind bars to think about cooperating with the same laws she would be forced to impose if she was VP. Sounds like Palin don't understand what a VP is supposed to be, you can't enforce laws if you're breaking them or think you're above the law.

Douglas Marshall Jr.   September 16th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

As a lifelong Republican I am finally convinced that this one time I must cross party lines and vote with the Democrats. I have two children who will be of age soon and I cannot risk sending them off to war with a commander in chief who lies and deceives the public and who shirks responsibility of office. McCain is a disappointment, but Palin is a liar and a deceiver.

I am saddened to leave my party, and I make enough money to pay higher taxes under Obama's plan, but the lives of my children are worth it.

Ian Minneapolis, MN   September 16th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

WHAT???? You're going to sue some one for investigating someone who is about to have the second most powerful job in the world for abuse of power????? THIS IS INSANE!!!! I AM COMPLETELY APPALLED!!! What has this world come to. She is obviously guilty due to her lack of cooperation into the whole matter. Now she is sueing???? Can anyone see the corruption and injustice here? Or am I just blind? Every Inquiry I had about Palin has just been answered. She is using the same horrible tactics the Bush Administration has been using for almost 8 years. God have mercy on our souls. PLEASE PEOPLE!!!! I am scared for my life, and the lives of my loved ones. Seriously, I am not joking one bit.

SHE definitely has something to hide but the press is too afraid of her to ask any real questions regarding trooper-gate investigation or her allegiance with the AIP or her religious right wing views.

If this nutjob is elected be prepared we will all have to start believeing in her church:

1.) speaking in tongues, Possession
2.)alaska is the last land that will stand during judgement day
3.) creationism (that follows pentecostal views not including other christian views)
4.) God wages wars on other countries not people
5.) Palin is the chosen one who will lift the pentecostal church to new heights. SO they think she is their MESSIAH!!!!!!!!! How scary.

2 days before Palin was selected, B4, I posted in the CNN blogs it would be a female, pro lifer, who was relatively unknown to bounce away from the fact he was following Limbaugh's orders. (SCOOP!)
2 days after she was selected, I predicted she would resign for 'family reasons' which would just be another LIE. (SCOOP2?)
One blogger made a point I cannot take credit for but MAKES SENSE.
Think about this, she was a pick to appease Limbaugh, get a Convention turn out, ignite the right and the FAR right, then come back with his real choice, Lieberman. (SCOOP3???)

Addressing the nation’s economic crisis, Holtz-Eakin told reporters traveling with the campaign “there’s no magic solution. And I don’t think that it’s at this moment imperative to write down exactly what the plan has to be.” He also said a president isn’t someone who needs to be heavily involved in policy specifics, which should be handled by “quality” advisers,

Out with the truth! If you're not guilty of anything, it will almost guarantee a win in November. Just think of the campaign strategies that could be spun around a complete exoneration.

Or maybe there is something to hide.

what a shame, what a shame, i always thought and i always had the highest respect for america and the american people, but it such a disgrace that after eight years of george bush in the white house and the racists on the right doing what they do best, damaging this country daily and still the people in this country will vote for a republican ticket of macain and this liar of a woman who the white americans sees as god to them ,well then the americans dont have any respect for themselves or no dignity.this woman plain has a lot of skelton in her closet , its only a matter of time, it will be out so be aware america, another thing, anyone who thinks that race dont play a part in this election, think again, its called THE WHITE HOUSE PEOPLE>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>DO THE MATHS

Ethan   September 16th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

So typical. A partisan group of Republicans whining about partisanship. Give me a BREAK! Why doesn't she just speak the truth if she did nothing wrong?!?!

I think we know who is 'tainted' and 'partisan'. Alaska Republicans. All of them.

Obama/Biden '08!

More!   September 16th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

The elitists in big government are trying to hurt Palin with this probe. She has the right to ban books, ban abortions, and make rape victims pay for their own mistake. If you don't agree with that, then you don't love the USA and I would question your patriotism.

Tony in MT   September 16th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

Just trying to buy some time so the election can happen without this being addressed. Why? Because she will doom the ticket when the truth comes out.

Thank you, John McCain, for handing the election to the right man.

Matt from CA   September 16th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

Surpise surprise! Suddenly, they don't want to answer questions about abuses of power, or anything else that coud be relevant to Sarah Palin's abilities as a leader. I'm sure it won't take long for them to start calling it sexist.

Independent for Obama   September 16th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

What happened to transparency and reform? Guess it only applies to others – not McCain/Palin.

McCain/Palin need to STOP crying foul and provide FULL cooperation! This has always been a bipartisan investigation that began BEFORE Palin was the VP nominee.

Hey, Sarah – take your own medicine!

GET REAL.   September 16th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

Look, even if Palin is cleared later, who wants this baggage in the White House? Okay, Obama had his own, but what pieces of luggage is he STILL carrying? Ayers, Wright, Rezko are ALL in the past and no one can find a legitimate CURRENT issue he's struggling with. He's even wearing the dang flag pin now…

You REALLY fear Obama that much? Economists (including T. Boone Pickens) are calling his energy and tax policies "acceptable", if not "brilliant." His "lack of experience" is tempered by his judgment. Where is the spin in that?

Look at the facts: Palin IS embroiled in scandal currently, Obama isn't, and McCain & Palin surrogates (Rove, Fiorina) are even starting to say negative things about them. In the past 72 hours, we've heard that the economy is good, McCain invented the Blackberry, Palin is refusing to cooperate with the government she supposedly runs, and the economy is failing fast under Bush's regime (which McCain is 90% responsible for). Even if I was racist or a Clintonista, I take a black Clinton opponent over this. Would you rather eat your veggies (Obama), or a piece of rotting meat (McCain)?

PLEASE POST, CNN.

oh brother, give me a break!!!!!!!! this is so shameful!!!!!!!!!!!!

Debby   September 16th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

Who cares already this is no big October surprise even if she fired this comissioner for not getting rid of her sicko ex-brother in-law who threatened the whole family and tasered a 10 year old she should be commended not this stupid investigation if she used her so called power or not. Keeping sick cops off the streets is something a governor should be doing in their states.

no trickle down...   September 16th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

The Republican slogan should be "Lies You Can Believe In"!

Alex   September 16th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

If you didn't do anything wrong why are you so worried about what the investigation will find? This lady with power frightens me.

Another Presidential Election bought and sold by the GOP. And authorized by the Courts?

No Way, No How!

RON   September 16th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

WHEW….IT'S STARTING TO STINK IN ALASKA!!!….Palin is hiding something.

Donna   September 16th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

And the judge should tell them to go take a hike!!!!

joey from nc   September 16th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

Ya just because she has power in the government means she is above everyone. You think that any of us would have the same option as her to just not cooperate? If anything, we would get even more charges pressed for not complying. if they steal this election again, looks like we will have to look up our 2nd amendment rights and really take this country back.

Jerry Ohio   September 16th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

This is disgusting what the republican trying to do if she under investigation continue with it because if it was me I will be in jail as of this moment everytime republican get in trouble with the law no conviction Palin does not have the right to stop the investigation….
Palin is awful

Independent in DC   September 16th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

Aren't 3 of the 5 on the commission Republicans? Talk about spin…

Pitbull without lipstick   September 16th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

She's our version of the taliban but in Alaska. Now conservatives in Alaska are threatening the anti-Palin rally women and sending them death threats. This sounds like we are not very far from becoming like the very enemies we are fighting against.

America you are too special, don't let the religious nuts like Palin take over our precious country and it's values like the CONSTITUTION.

God bless our future.

McCain for Pres.   September 16th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

It is two democratic senators going after sarah Palin to try to discredit her. Democratic sleazy politics again.

r sisk, nevada   September 16th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

Wow, what a big surprise that another republican is shielding themselves from the law. Maybe she can ignore subpoenas as did Rove and Meyers.

If she said she would cooperate with the investigation, and if she is as HONEST as she claims to be, then she should honor her word. UNLESS, she has something to hide. I am tired of lawmakers breaking the law and what's worse is it is allowable.

Doug in Seattle   September 16th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

Move along now folks, there is nothing to see here!

no trickle down...   September 16th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

We already know she's a lier, that will try to get what she wants at all costs!

BUT that's nothing new – lets get back to what's important – the state of the American economy and the Bush/McCain policies that got us there.

If McCain was so much for change – how come he didn't change anything over the last 26 years….? Now he thinks the Economy is strong. I'd hate to see it when it's Weak!!!!!!

JERRY   September 16th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

"MyCarythyistic" Palin says.

Palin is the biggest threat to our democracy since McCarthy.

Krystyn   September 16th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

How is this ok? How are they getting away with saying its tainted and partisan when its HER allies trying to block things. The commission was set up in JULY, clearly before her VP nomination.

I seriously do not get how this could be happening.

marcel   September 16th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

She wants to keep this quiet. What does Governor Palin have to hide if she did nothing wrong. A lot!!!

Bradley In Colorado   September 16th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

Tsk, Tsk, Repuglicans.

Mrs. Palin, either submit to the investigation, or look really suspicious and guilty (which we all know you are).

No matter what happens, you'll always be scum in my eyes.

RyanD.   September 16th, 2008 3:16 pm ET

Um…this investigation began way prior to her becoming VP. What does Obama have to do with it?

SOUNDS LIKE BUSH-CHENEY LITE. NEVER BLINK, GO WITH YOUR GUT, DENY DENY DENY.

I'm so over that form of governing.

ACA, Chicago, IL   September 16th, 2008 3:16 pm ET

The AK Repubs are desperate to stop this. They know this is will torpedo Ol' Sarah's reputation. Had McCain really vetted her, shoe would not have made it. Unfortunately, he was desperate to save his campaign…Sorry, John…You might have peaked too early.

Oh Sara   September 16th, 2008 3:16 pm ET

Palin is a COWARD that will not follow her own code of transparency in Government. If you have nothing to hide then fess up. Stop the lies, our leaders need to held accountable no matter if your a Republican or Democrat.

Palin and Repugnants are a joke   September 16th, 2008 3:16 pm ET

Palin claiming executive priviledge I guess, just like Bush. Don't want the truth to come out might damage her credibility.

Palin has nothing to hide, but will unlikely co-operate? Investigation started before her candicacy. More republicans on investigation team by 3 to 2.

You get to decide who is going to investigate you in America. That's a new one….lets all go rob the banks and then tell the judge we want a couple of our fellow bank robbers to do the investigation.

Independent voting for Obama over the GOP circus.

Ben   September 16th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

I guess she wants to reform Washington to make it more accountable and transparent… just so long as it's not about her.

mike   September 16th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

I guess Sarah Palin is above the law just like the rest of the republicans. Let's vote them in for 8 more years of corruption, cover ups and thumbing their nose at the constitution. This smells like the last 8 years of Bush reincarnated. It is unbelievable. The potential future VP (god forbid) objects to being investigated and tries to shrug it off and call it a witch hunt. Well she got the witch part right! If she is innocent, what is the problem? These republicans make me ill.

Paul   September 16th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

Biden and McCain are the only ones qualified to be in this race, and since only one of them is running for president, this is a very easy choice

Anonymous   September 16th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

Nice. Palin was being investigated for this long before she became the VP on the Republican ticket. And now, she and the Republicans are calling the probe "tainted" and "partisan".

Not sure how anyone with more then a third grade education, could argue this point and actually believe it.

Janice   September 16th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

Palin welcomed this bi-partisian investigation, then she wouldn't testify, now she wants it stopped.

Can you say cover-up? She and Dick Cheney could be twins.

Anonymous   September 16th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

First, she pledged to comply completely, and in fact, "welcomed" the investigation. (Bring 'em on?)

Second, isn't the investigating committee bi-partisan, with a majority of Republicans?

Third, I don't think "McCarthyistic" is a real word.

Anita from Arizona   September 16th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

Transparency!!!!!!!!!!! This is the Republican ticket that promises transparency in government if they were elected?? If they can't do it now, how do we know they'll do it in office??? Republican Senator McCain and Republican Governor Palin's records and their actions prove they can not be trusted to change Washington.

spiculari   September 16th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

it is a bit fishy that she does not want to cooperate… as if she is hiding something…

IF YOU ARE INNOCENT AND HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE, AS SHE HAS BEEN SCREECHING FROM THE ROOFTOPS FROM DAY ONE, THEN ONE WOULD THINK THAT SHE WOULD WELCOME AN INVESTIGATION TO CLEAR HER NAME.

THIS HAS GUILTY WRITTEN ALL OVER IT.

Cam   September 16th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

Does America really want a Vice President who willingly sidesteps a lawful investigation? Especially when that candidate is platforming about change in Washington?

I mean, if she is innocent as she claims, she would just cooperate and get it over with.

I really can't believe how ignorant people are in their blind faith of Palin.

Cindy P   September 16th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

JEric   September 16th, 2008 3:13 pm ET

McCain's Blackberry comment was a joke. Doesn't he know it was developed by the Canadian Company "Research In Motion"? It had nothing to do with McCain. His campaign went from ugly to laughable. He should spend more time with "the google".

Now imagine Palin in office, she seems to have no serious connections with economists or foreign policy experts. If something happened to McCain would she fill her cabinet with some old high school friends from Wasilla? Wouldn't surprise me it's happened before as governor, if she lands a spot of power we're all doomed.

chezsan   September 16th, 2008 3:13 pm ET

LOL yea, considering the probe began before she was named the VP candidate………………..whatever. More Republican crying – isn't anyone else getting sick of this? They viciously attack anything liberal or democratic, but heaven forbid anyone question them about anything. We're supposed to treat them with "deference". Where the heck is the "liberal" media – they should be having a field day with the Republican party.

kamenwati   September 16th, 2008 3:13 pm ET

Liar Palin just lied again.

beevee   September 16th, 2008 3:13 pm ET

Does palin have something to hide in the firing of the State's public service commissioner? if not why is she and hercroonies trying to interve in the investigation? Pitbull's should be afraid of anything.

People make no sense   September 16th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

Wow – this is incredible. Republican high powered lawyers diverting justice once again. Rove, Gonzales, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and many many others… the list continues. Reform you can believe in…

Liz   September 16th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

Here we go again with a negative article against Palin. CNN why don't you just tell us right out that you are 100% behind Obama. Anything negative you can bring up on McCain and Palin you print it but of course nothing against Obama.

Anyway, only time will tell in November, when after all the voting is done McCain and Palin are still going to win. So keep on with your negative reporting and we will have the last laugh on CNN, Obama and his vindictive supporters.

Obama Supporter from FL   September 16th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

Why don't you just let them finish the probe? It sounds like they will decide that the trooper was a jerk anyway, and that there were independent issues that could have been the reason for the firing of the commissioner, so WHAT are they so scared of?

Celeste   September 16th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

Ms. Sarah: One way or the other, you will be tried. Either by the system or in the court of public opinion. It's your call. Choose wisely.

observer   September 16th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

If she is so transperant then why not the law take its own course. what is she afraid of.

of the 10 people involved in the investigation 6 r republicans in contrast to 4 democrats…. so how can the democrats be politicalizing it…..

Los   September 16th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

This is appalling. Or should I say a-palin'?

Ryan   September 16th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

The investigation started BEFORE she was chosen as McCain's running mate. It isn't some stupid ploy to stop her from becoming VP, it is an ongoing investigation. The way Palin has been behaving lately makes it clear she has something to hide.

Bulldog   September 16th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

I think this will actually backfire against Palin. If she didn't do anything wrong then she didn't need to hire a private lawyer and would be cooperating like she said she would. But now all of a sudden they are trying to blame democrats and now they are taking it to court. I think just by her uncooperation she appears to be guilty of some type of wrongdoing. They are sure are acting desperate.

Shirell   September 16th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

Nothing to hide! RIGHT! The less she says, the more proof is shown She 's a wanna-be VP. The bubble is shrinking for Sarah/McCain, I mean, McCain/Sarah.

Tony   September 16th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

TYPICAL REPUBLICAN!

AS CORRUPT AS THEY COME!

Dana   September 16th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

They don't need to hold off nothing. Palin said bring it own and she had nothing to hide!!

Latina for Obama   September 16th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

and they can do that?

Lissa in Montreal   September 16th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

How can this be a McCarthyist investigation when it was well under way before Palin was ever McCain's running mate? Her refusal to cooperate and her blaming of Dems is just a good excuse for her to cry "victim" again. First it was because she's a woman. Then, she's a mother. Now she's being unfairly investigated. Puh-leeze. She's made her bed only she doesn't like the wrinkles in the blanket!!

I Invented the McMuffin... and fire   September 16th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

Did any of us really expect forthright answers and cooperation with this investigation? One doesn't need to be a psychic to have seen this coming. She fits the current administration like a glove.

Ed, Santa Fe NM   September 16th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

PALIN IS A FRAUD

Gov. Sarah Palin may eventually have said "no thanks" to a federally funded Bridge to Nowhere.

But a bridge to her hometown of Wasilla, that's a different story.

A $600 million bridge and highway project to link Alaska's largest city to Palin's town of 7,000 residents is moving full speed ahead, despite concerns the bridge could worsen some commuting and threaten a population of beluga whales.

Local officials already have spent $42 million on plans to route traffic across the Knik Arm inlet, a narrow finger of water extending roughly 25 miles northeast of Anchorage toward Wasilla. The proposal exists thanks to an earmark request by Republican Rep. Don Young, whose son-in-law has a small stake in property near the bridge's proposed western span.

mk   September 16th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

What is she so afraid of?

Suspicious   September 16th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

Any time there's this much righteous indignation and paranoia around a political issue, you know they're onto something. Where there's smoke there's fire.

Palin needs to step down now before she blows the election for Bush 44, McSame. ………bwahahahahaha

4 THE CONSTITUTION   September 16th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

Mike, Syracuse NY   September 16th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

This public safety commisioner says he was fired for refusing to fire the state trooper. But he admitted in a CNN interview that Palin never asked him to fire the trooper. So how did he get the idea she wanted him fired, a Vulcan mind meld? The Alaska State Police found that the trooper violated several laws, including drinking on duty. He deserved to be fired.

Nick - Arlington, VA   September 16th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

If you have nothing to hide and you were going to cooperate but all of a sudden you are not….then what does that really say about your integrity and ability to speak the truth?

Joseph, Los Angeles   September 16th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

Don't let her off the hook. She is a tainted politician. Won't talk to the media, won't talk to the American people, won't answer real questions, and haven't proved that she is capable of running this country. Bad choice Mr. McCain; she can't fool us anymore. We here in the lower states are not as dumb as she thinks.

Bruce   September 16th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

Oh Come on….
if there is nothing to hide then why make a big deal out of this?
Could it be that this is the typicla repub response, thinking they are above the law, or do not have to follow what the regular citizens do?
If she has nothing to hide, then come clean. This is typical of what is wrong with this country, those in power can do whatever they want and the rest of us have to live under different rules.
Palin….come clean….

TAYO, NY   September 16th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

The truth shall prevail.

SHE HAS BEEN SHOOTING HER MOUTH OFF SINCE SHE BECAME THE NOMINEE THAT SHE WELCOMED AN INVESTIGATION BECAUSE SHE HAD DONE NOTHING WRONG.
