Palin hammers Obama on taxes in Ohio

Palin ripped Obama on the economy Tuesday.

Palin ripped Obama on the economy Tuesday.

VIENNA, Ohio (CNN) – With a strong anti-NAFTA sentiment and a heavy union presence, the Mahoning Valley in northeast Ohio isn’t exactly prime Republican territory.

But that’s exactly where John McCain and Sarah Palin took their road show on Tuesday, hoping to steal some votes from Barack Obama in a region of the state where Hillary Clinton reigned supreme during the Ohio Democratic primary.

“We’re making that foray,” said one campaign adviser. “It’s good to play offense.”

Introducing McCain for the first time since she traveled to Alaska last week, Palin kept the focus on jobs and the economy as Wall Street woes dominated the headlines for the second straight day. She laid into the Democratic ticket, accusing Obama of wanting to raise payroll taxes, business taxes, investment income taxes and the estate tax.

“Here’s a little straight talk for our opponent,” Palin said, using her running mate’s signature phrase.

“His tax plans really would kill jobs and hurt small businesses and make even today’s bad economy look like the good old days.”

Palin's claims aren't exactly accurate: Obama would maintain the Bush tax cuts and offer tax breaks to individuals making under $250,000 a year. According to the non-partisan Center for Tax Policy, Obama’s tax plan would offer greater tax relief than McCain's for low and middle-income earners, but McCain's plan would lower the tax burden more across the board.

As she did in Colorado on Monday, Palin linked the campaign's economic pitch to her small town roots.

“Our family, like your families, we know that the best way to help small businesses is for government to take less from them, leave more for them so that they can expand and create jobs,” Palin said. “It's a pretty simple principle.”

Several voters in the audience said they were supporting McCain and Palin because they favor lower taxes.

Joyce Kish, an elementary school teacher's aide who attended the rally with her three sisters-in-law, said taxes and employment are her top issues in the election. She said the Valley was suffering from the loss of manufacturing jobs, and that the two Republicans on stage had the managerial experience to fix the economy. All four women said they were adamantly opposed to abortion rights.

When Palin finished her introduction of McCain, scores of voters soon proceeded to file out of the venue, one more sign that the Alaska governor is the force behind the ballooning crowds that have turned out for McCain in recent weeks.

It's very disappointing to see the bias shown to the McCain/Palin campiagn since Sarah Palin was announced as the VP running mate. It was my understanding that news agencies applied fair and balanced reporting, showing both sides of the isle. I have the opportunity to watch much of the news programs throughout the day and it's painfully odvious that CNN and Fox News are pro McCain in everyway, and if by chance the Obama campaign gets a news spot it's tainted, the person being interviewed is constantly interrupted by the host (example: the program with the host who's name is Heather). McCain interviews are very complimentary to Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin and if for some reason there's something questionable about them it's quickly dispelled. Tonight Larry King had Dr. Phil on and talked the entire segment about Gov. Palin. If there's going to be fair and balance reporting, make it fair and balanced for both sides. I'd hate to thing in this day and time we're still having to fight for fairness, or maybe fairness is out the window and it's back to the same old make sure the black man doesn't get treated fairly, and if for some reason he gets a leg up, just resort to the oldest trick in the book; cheat!

Are the conservative Ohions that desperate to even waste money on gas to go for her dumb rally that only spews lies. She has no clue in controlling her daughter, how the hell is she going to controll the country's budget and taxes. She is a piece of work. If she had half the brain she should stick to moose hunting. She does not even have a clue about where Russia is, scary if she becomes VP. I can imagine what she will see from the White House, may CHINA and all their dollar signs.

Of course her statements aren't "exactly accurate." Has she said anything that hasn't disputed?

How many bridges to nowhere has this chick backed? Word now that she is responsible for requesting $600 Million in earmarks for a bridge to Wasilla. Since when does a town the size of 7,000 need a $600 million bridge?

It's called LYING. When someone gets in front of an audience and tells them things that they KNOW are not true, that is lying.

See also: we do not torture.

She's a good liar – either that or she's as dumb as a box of rocks OR she'll prostitute the truth to be in the White House. Just what I want my kids to emulate!

If you are dumb enough to support GOP, I forgive you for having such a low IQ. I do track all the plans by Mccain and Obama, and somehow, Mccain has slowly changed his detailed plan to address what Obama has been addressing. One example, initially, Mccain didn't address college students, but later on, he put that up on his website. This is how he has stole the campaign slogan from Obama... honestly, on the scale of politicians, Mccain is on the extreme "RIGHT"... i.e., he's behaving very much like the old George Bush, changing the landscape to suit himself. WAKE UP AMERICA! WAKE UP! (Oppssss.. have I stolen that from someone?)

There is no comparison between Biden and Fiorina. I can't believe they even made that comparison. Frankly I am glad Fiorina showed her true colors. I have had a hard time listening to her as a surrogate. She is not very effective. Biden is much more effective, gaffe or no gaffes.

How is it "straight talk" when what is being said is "inaccurate"?..i am neither a democrat nor a republican, just one who seeks truth and relief in this time turmoil, and as a follower of those in power in i.e. the president, i feel that if the strategy of our future commander in chief is to lie and bamboozle the american people in order to be elected (republican campaign), then we have only seen the beginning of the road to about let the "straight talk" be the truth, and all other talk be considered the BS it really is

Why are the STILL lying about Barack's tax plan?! THe entire WORLD knows his stance on the Tax Cuts but the Republican Party is CLUELESS! Do they think Americans are stupid?! I'm beginning to think so! SO I guess it falls on me, a regular voter to explain Barack's tax plan. Barack wants to give all Americans making under 250,000 a tax cut and take all individuals that make OVER 250,000 a year about a 5% increase. This will equal out to about 2,000 more in taxes. Therefore about 90% of Americans WILL GET A TAX CUT!!

SIDE NOTE: I'm beginning to restore my Faith in CNN again. THANK YOU for calling her out on her LIES! Maybe it's time for her to update her recycled speech!!!! She's REALLY starting to look DUMB!!
