A prominent backer of Hillary Clinton is endorsing McCain.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a prominent Hillary Clinton supporter and member of the Democratic National Committee’s Platform Committee, will endorse John McCain for president on Wednesday, her spokesman tells CNN.

The announcement will take place at a news conference on Capitol Hill, just blocks away from the DNC headquarters. Forester will “campaign and help him through the election,” the spokesman said of her plans to help the Republican presidential nominee.

Forester was a major donor for Clinton earning her the title as a Hillraiser for helping to raise at least $100,000 for the New York Democratic senator’s failed presidential bid.

In an interview with CNN this summer, Forester did not hide her distaste for eventual Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.

“This is a hard decision for me personally because frankly I don't like him,” she said of Obama in an interview with CNN’s Joe Johns. “I feel like he is an elitist. I feel like he has not given me reason to trust him.”

Forester is the CEO of EL Rothschild, a holding company with businesses around the world. She is married to international banker Sir Evelyn de Rothschild. Forester is a member of the DNC’s Democrats Abroad chapter and splits her time living in London and New York.

It takes cojones to do what Lynn Rothschild did. Obama has zero experience with anything. Voting present won't cut it. And you clowns want that in the white house? I and all my Dem friends are voting for McCain/Palin.

palin_rocks_obama_sucks   September 17th, 2008 8:48 am ET

When he blew Hillary off, he blew me and a WHOLE LOT of my friends off too. This was the first really BIG decision of Obama's political life, and he told me everything I needed to know about who he really is. And so did McCain, for that matter. Show me what you do, and I'll show you who you really are.

Lynn Forester de Rothschild has it together but, of course, the commie-centric dislike sarah palin's `correct, traditional' philosophy!

Obama was against offshore drilling and is now for it. He was against the troop surge and now agrees it worked. Against charter schools, now for. Against Bush's tax cuts, now will extend them. The most frightening thing is his vow to nearly double capital gains. The Clinton administration lowered them and that created wealth. My distrust of Barack stems from his record of very poor decision making. We really don't know where he stands – he votes 'present'. This is America's problem with him. I supported Hillary but will not vote for Obama this time around. McCain has a solid record of bipartisanship.

uncgirlinct   September 17th, 2008 6:51 am ET

I'm glad someone has the guts to express this publicly. There are a lot of us who feel the exact same way...you say that Obama doesn't need us, we'll see if you're right about that.

Sue, NY   September 17th, 2008 6:40 am ET

It's a little like calling the kettle black is it not...with the background she has and the fact that she splits her time between London and New York... and she thinks Obama is an elitist!...give me a break...people will look for any excuse when they don't get their way...very childish...

Vito   September 17th, 2008 6:33 am ET

No doubt the first of many. It's funny to see the squeeling children frustrated by a free-thinker. How can you trust a guy who's main claim to fame is he doesn't have a political resume? He showed his colors by selecting Biden as his runnign mate. Same old Same old tired tax and spend elitist.

Being a simple man I look at what drives a person and their actions. I see on the top of the tickets.. One man driven by self engrandizment and peer validation. Anouther a proven patriot making the last stand of his life for this country. One man seeking identity and resume and anouther knowing he will soon die and the maturity to know it is not his legacy that matters but the legacy of this country he loves. One is far to the extream in their party. And the other is spat on by his own for being to far to the center.

With the (D) capitulation and compromise on the energy bill; that doesn't allow drilling and gives no incentives or revenues to the states. who do they think they're fooling?
The ban on drilling dies a natural death of its own anyway; I hope they get wise and just let the bill die; Nany Pelosi is the biggest fraud only just slightly less a fraud than the last speaker who was a Repube.

Eli   September 17th, 2008 3:31 am ET

Truth is in the pudding, so to speak.

While the US economy is in a "Crisis" or as Obama termed it on the campaign trail "America is facing the worst economic crisis in history". Obama, the "just an ordinary hard working american" is hobnobbing & rubbing elbows with the Hollywood Elite lining his pockets to the tune of 9 MILLION DOLLARS in donations this very night, 09.16.08. Do you think $28,000 a plate dinner is excessive? How about contradictory, while lecturing americans on our wasteful habits on everything from energy to goods and services. Hate to burst your bubble, but Obama is ELITE. Don't you know how those HARVARD graduates think!

Conservative Ron   September 17th, 2008 3:27 am ET

I have never been a conspiracy hack on the Clintons. That is, I've never bought into the numerous theories regarding outrageous and nefarious claims of Clinton misdeeds (ie Vince Foster, etc).

However, the news that a prominent Hillary backer, on the DNC platform committee no less, will endorse McCain vice Obama lends credence to the supposition that Hillary does *not* want Obama to win in 2008 so that she can gain the DNC nomination for 2012.

As someone who voted twice against Bill, and didn’t think that Hillary had a chance to become Senator in New York, I’ve learned not to under-estimate the Clinton team. As a side show to this election season, I’ll be watching for more people from the Hillary camp coming out for McCain, as well as lackluster support for Obama from the Clintons themselves.

Zel   September 17th, 2008 3:26 am ET

It is pretty clear. It not that you don't trust him. Its just that he is black. Shame on you!!! Don't you know that racism is a thing of the past. We are a new generation move on with the times.

Anthony   September 17th, 2008 3:20 am ET

Excellent, finally "some" liberal people are seeing the light!

Exactly what has Obama done...........?, still waiting..........and waiting....................., oh, nothing that you can specifically state....

Oh, wait today the news just came in on the four (4) liberal media platforms Obama controls. He says he was the author of our stimulus package which gave us our rebates checks this year................., but he didn't even bother to vote on the bill "he created", wow, he must have really been busy reforming.......his campaign, of........change you can believe in. No doubt that slogan is TRUE look at all the zombies......they believe in NOTHING for the sake of the rah, rah! Oh quick somebody fainted again.....

Lynn Forester de Rothschild, she is not against Obama as a black, or a man, she is against a guy who can't make a decision, even on "his" landmark simulus package... "Hey advisers, should I go to congress to vote on that bill I created or should I give a speach like I did in 2004?"

How laughable. Liberals relax your panic grip, notice your knuckles are turning white, and they will be bleeding by Nov 4th, ha, ha, ha, ha.

Obama will lose because most Americans, unlike you elite, liberal communists, we are reasonable, practical, and can actually pull up our own pants in the morning. We aren't looking for a handout, and we definately don't need the old tired liberal playbook that government (name higher taxes) are going to solve anything. You guys have been doing the same thing for over 60 years, and what have you solved? NOTHING. This sums up Obama's campaign of "Something the Same that only the hysterical can believe in"

Have fun believing for another 50 or so days......

Crysomemore   September 17th, 2008 3:20 am ET

Really? Because McCain's policies are so close to Mrs. Clinton? I was a Clinton supporter and to just let everyone know, we all aren't liitle crybabies that will take our ball and go home if we don't get our way. I guess him not choosing her as a running mate was the final straw? How could he? The Clinton campaign practically painted him into a corner on that subject. I think it's been said before, this lady is PATHETIC!

yvonne p. rivera   September 17th, 2008 3:20 am ET

the best candidate is obama, as far as this republican, catholic, conservative ,retired veteran of 21 years is concerned. you know black veterans and soldiers have died for this great realm of ours,too. looking for and fighting for the time when skin color would not matter. maccain has sold his soul to the devil, just as hillary did when she sat at the table with her sworn enemies, the mellon-scaithes, the sean hannities,and the bill-os of this world just to get elected. now i hear where karl rove is advising mccain. what has happened to that great gentleman, i really once did admire? he could deliver such great speeches. what has happened to you john mccain? i do believe that obama will pull in the younger voters, who will propel to the finish line on 4 november. john mccain, what happened to the straight-talk guy you were in 2000? you know how the bush campaign railroaded you. i thought i heard you say that you would not do that to your opponents. boo! hoo!

george at cape straight alaska   September 17th, 2008 3:19 am ET

The first poster is not aware that Alaska has always had high unemployment rates due to the seasonal nature of fishing and tourism and large Native American villages which are heavily reliant on social services.

To say Palin is responsible for this condition ignores history. Goes to show there are liars and then there are statistics.

Many women were outraged over how the rules committee of the Democratic party stole the nomination from Clinton. No wonder they are jumping ship.

Rod   September 17th, 2008 3:19 am ET

I just get a kick out of how Obama supporters have eaten up his mantra about McCain being the 2nd coming of Bush! How shallow thinking is that? It is the only thing Obama can do to scare his voters into pulling the lever for him!

Any person with active intelligence will actually see through that. They might not necessarily vote for McCain, but if they vote for Obama, they will do so for a totally different reason! The McCain = Bush is just so much Koolaid for automatons to consume. Get past that tired old scare tactic and find something substantive to use for fodder for Heaven's sake! Got that "irony"?

CHIJIOKE   September 17th, 2008 3:18 am ET

All you people that talk about job loss, how many jobs you created.?
Government does not create jobs. They are tax-collectors. If everyone of us waits around to be hired by the Government, I bet you the unemployment rate will be about 90%. Think about that you idiots who don't understand that the so-called Obama's tax cut on the rich are those that put some food on your tables.. Lest see what will happen to you if their businesses go down and so are you. They are the ones making the magic number $250,000.00 per year. Obama should encourage them to expand so more people could be absorbed into the work force.

Renee   September 17th, 2008 3:18 am ET

Go ahead, Lynn Foresterde Rothschild was not a Democratic just for Hillary BAD MOVE for Lynn Foresterde Rothschild because Hillary is for Obama Hillary said Obama was her candidate.

Sorry For You Democrats   September 17th, 2008 3:16 am ET

Here is what I do not understand. You democrats preach tolerance and inclusion and as soon as someone disagrees with you they are called names and dismissed. What has happened to the democrat party? It seems the party has descended into hate and dishonor. First you say you are for womens right to choose then when the woman chooses life you have a fit? Also where is the evidence that Barrack Obama has more experience than Sara Palin? What exactly has Obama done? Where has Obama led? Just today we find out that Obama was given more money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac than everyone other than Chris Dodd. Also isn't the guy that was in charge of vetting and choosing Obama's vice-presidental pick a CEO at Fannie Mae? Why aren't you seekers of truth discussing this? And lastly what makes any of you think you are right about Obama? He has admitted to using drugs and has never stood up for anything and he made a horrible decision by not choosing Hillary as his VP. Wise up!

Go Lady de Rothschild, millions of Democrats like myself support your decision to endorse McCain/Palin.

Interesting how Obama suporters have nothing but hateful things to say about anyone that chooses not to support their Leader.

I'm voting against Obama neophyte HATE 2008.

Stephanie Bergland   September 17th, 2008 3:15 am ET

Oh, the Obamatrons never stop, and you wonder why HRC's supporters don't want to support your candidate. You're allegations of racism never cease to amaze me. You're consistent use of name calling as your weapon against us is not working–it didn't work six months ago and it's not working now. Go ahead, question our loyalty and trivialize our intelligence, as in the end, at least you'll know why Obama lost. Don't worry, I have switched parties at this point and am now an Independent. I no longer want to be part of a party that touts inclusion–as long as the people think just like everyone else does. What's the difference between that and the Republicans who are more inclined to wear their exclusive status on their sleaves? I don't want anything to do with any of it–I'll vote independent of a party for the first time in twenty years. Thank you–I feel liberated!

Hey irony
The state of Illinois unemployment rate as of Aug 2008 is 7.3% the states highest level in almost 15 yrs, 1.2% higher than nat avg. And you are wrong about consistent job loss every mo since Palin is Gov. According to your own source ( labor.state.ak)
" While the country as a whole has shed jobs every mo so far in 2008, Ak is one of a handfull of states that has continued to see employment growth"

My, my... the infantile whinings of Democrats as women and independents leave them one by one is a pathetic thing to see. How quick they are to attack and try to destroy those who don't toe their party line and have the NERVE to actually think for themselves.

It's people like these that are inspiring Democrats like ME to vote for McCain and Palin. Keep it up, guys... you'll drive McCain into the White House for SURE at this rate. :)

Abe   September 17th, 2008 3:12 am ET

She doesn't like Obama because she knows he's a phony. He's done nothing in his nearly 3 years in the Senate but run for the presidency. Bet he doesn't even know a senators job descrition.

It's a silly argument to malign Palin. SHe's done tons more than Obama has. What's HE done in the Ilinois senate? Send Resco in to make millions on rehabs and but Obama a house with a lot for pennies. But what DID Oabama do? Memorable bills? none. Same thing in the Senate..what's he done? memorable bills? not one.

Oh and Tish, why is it that the libs always try to silence the opposition? CNN ain't much but it does report things. ANything that make Obama look iffy deserves to be posted. He's a clown lookin after himself like he always has. He gives a crap about you or anyone. Self interested left wing socialist. Sounds like a winner to me.... He's paid no price.....gramma sent him to school. Not one dime did he pay.

swathdiver   September 17th, 2008 3:10 am ET

When Government creates a job and then hires a person to do that job, that's one less person creating wealth. It's another person taxpayers have to support. So Palin eliminating government jobs is good for the economy. As for gas prices, you don't have to look any further then Mother Pelosi, she created that mess through legislation. Look up the 2007 legislation. She's also responsible for the soaring food costs as well, same tactic used.

A POPULARITY CONTEST??? What in the name of all that is holy do you think an election is????? IT IS A POPULARITY CONTEST!! That is why Obama the Slickster spends so much time cutting down Sarah Palin!! SHE IS POPULAR (which is a good thing for a politician): BILL CLINTON WAS POPULAR. RONALD REAGAN WAS POPULAR. Judas Priest, for supporters of Obama the new age Messiah, the INDONISIAN HERE TO HEAL US ALL (as he said, he is the ONE that we have been waiting for) have a lot of nerve now to complain that this is reduced to a "popularity contest."

YOU DIDN'T COMPLAIN WHEN YOUR SLICK AND EMPTY SUIT WAS AHEAD!! What was that fiasco in Denver all about?? He wasn't content to receive the "crown of fig leaves" in the Pepsi Center WITH THOSE WHO ELECTED HIM, NO HE HAD TO HAVE THE ADORING THRONGS, IN THE HUGE OUTDOORS BRONCO FOOTBALL STADIUM, WITH HIS VERY OWN STYROFOAM COLUMNS, LIKE ANY OTHER GRECO-ROMAN CONQUERER!!

(Forgive the rest of the country from laughing) the fact that YOUR CREEP TRIED TO NEGOTIATE WITH THE IRAQi GOVERNMENT (TREASON) AND TRIED TO BULLY THE GERMANS (AGAINST THE CONSTITUTION) AND PULLS A BONER GAFFE EVERY SINGLE TIME HE OPENS HIS MOUTH (to the point now that he has to BRING A TELEPROMPTER TO A RODEO, the funniest thing ever to happen in politics) ONLY MAKES YOUR INDONESIAN FELLA LOOK LIKE A SHINY-SUITED SHYSTER BULLY WITH JUG-EARS!

But, we can't hold all that against him too much, after all; OBAMA THE IDIOT DIDN'T SET FOOT ON THESE SHORES UNTIL HE WAS 18 YEARS OLD, AND THEN ONLY TO GO TO FANCY COLLEGES AND LAW SCHOOLS (affirmative action) AND THEN HE WENT TO CHICAGO TO BECOME A "NEIGHBORHOOD ORGANIZER" [that's code for Sal Alinsky brand Marxist / Leninist / socialist / anarchist / and chaos training AND THAT'S WHEN HE CHANGED FROM BEING A MUSLIM TO BEING A BLACK SEPARATIST "CHRISTIAN" THAT BELIEVES IN REPARATION AND SEPARATION OF BLACKS AND WHITES (PROVIDING THE WHITES GIVE ALL THEIR MONEY).

Then, there is his American hating WIFE who wears the pants in the family (ASK WHY and I will tell you that OBAMA likes his guy-fun and she knows she can DESTROY HIM whenever she wants to (PLUS HE WANTS TO BE HEAD OF THE NATION OF ISLAM ONCE OLD LOUIS FARRAKHAN KICKS THE BUCKET AND MICHELLE CAN MAKE OR BREAK THAT DEAL (hint: her brother is part of the package; he can break OBAMA into little pieces).

Elitest isn't allways about money though it helps. Its more about attitude and convictions.

plz blink   September 17th, 2008 3:06 am ET

Have you noticed anything peculiar about sara palin's behavior? Do you think that she may perhaps be more confident than she should, given the fact that she is virtually unknown, lacks a great deal of foriegn policy knowledge, and fills in the gaps with chatter about anything that will get a reaction from the crowd? Take her speech in Nevada, for example. Utterly ridiculous, yet she stood there without
any seeming ability to be self conscious enough to know that she was not coming across very clearly. Nor did she seem to be making much of a point at all, or talking about issues. After her her comment on Charles Gibson where she said "you can't blink"–I became scared of her, that is the kind of thing that very impulsive people say!

Rodrigo Pineda   September 17th, 2008 3:06 am ET

Obama is a liar, corrupt, two faced elitist. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. The two big economic problems in this country are a result of liberal/democratic policies that NObama is part of it. We need to DRILL and get back to nuclear and alternative sources of energy as well as to maintain a stable political system in the countries that supply our oil needs, exactly what NOBAMA is not, and guess who blocked all attempts to regulate Fannie/Fred, the democrats, Cristopher Dodd, and guess who got political bribes from Fannie/Fred, the democrats, and ahead of the line NOBAMA, and guess who is one of obama main economic advisors is , the CEO of Fannie/Fred who also led the VP selection effort. WE CAN NOT Afford more of the SAME crook politics , we need HONOR, TRUSFULLNESS, REAL CHANGE and EXPERIENCE in the white house. and OBAMA is NOT

Pam   September 17th, 2008 3:06 am ET

Hillary did ask if we were there for her, and yes we were because she represented the Democratic Party and not the party of a mythnical phony. Obama is further from being a Democrat than McCain. He IS an elitist, He is full of himself and now he is waffling all over like a fish dropped on the deck of a ship. The Pres helped elect the Dem. nominee simply because he was black, not because he was new and had a great message. He had no message other than that he wanted to be President and he and his campaign staff are blowing it worst than any campaign in history.

Did they not think his racial comments, use of the race card and obvious distain for America got by the people? I don't cling to any guns and he can believe all that crap if he wants. He simply does not represent the core Democrat and that's that. His speech has become a broken record. He cannot talk about the issues without a teleprompter and when he does everyone is saying "huh?". He never should have been the nominee and race should never have played the guilt card. Now we are stuck with a dud.

Sooner or later the males in the Democratic Party are going to realize that it is them against the radical feminists. Apparently, Dems could not say they did not want the shrill radical feminist Hillary...without punishment.

Half the Democrats would sooner be killed than to have allowed Hillary to win the nomination....yet her supporters still think that she can come back in 2012 if they only destroy Obama this year.

She will not win in 2012. The Obama supporters from this year will remember the sick and twisted way she stabbed them in the back in the general in 2008...or at least I would think that way if I were a Democrat Obama supporter.

What scares me is that these feminists now control McCain and the Republican Party because they are considered the swing vote. They are a huge swing vote.

American men are stupid to allow a situation where two parties dominate and the swing vote are radical feminists who will get what they want in terms of new legislation no matter what happens.

H. Valdez, Hillsboro, Oregon   September 17th, 2008 3:05 am ET

Yikes, looks like we all are jumping ship to McCain. I must say, I owe Hillary's Campaign and apology. It seemed like they were just complaining about the sexism by Obama's people, but wow, look what they are trying to do to Palin. Let's go McCain, and then see what Hillary wants to do in 2012.

Go USA   September 17th, 2008 3:04 am ET

I'm sorry for you Irony, another scared obama worshiper. The reality is obama is just another politician who will say whatever he has to. There is no change possible with this candidate. Just Demo talking points. Try to be a little opened minded and independent in your thinking, so you don't become bitter and angry.

Jim   September 17th, 2008 3:03 am ET

I couldn't help comment on irony's comment that Palin did not create jobs in Alaska during her tenure as Governor. According to the reference given by Irony, The Alaska Labor Dept shows that unemployment in AK rose from about 6 to 6.5% in the last two years while the US average rose from 4.25 to 5.75% So in the last two years AK's unemployment rate rose 12.5% against the US average increase of 29%.
To clarify AK's unemployment rate increase was less than 1/2 that of the US as a whole. That is a good thing.
Irony shows how easy it is to misrepresent numbers and how much some people think the government is responsible for creating jobs. The difference between a communist government and a democratic one is in a communist society the government is responsible for creating jobs. We don't need a politburo to create jobs. We need a government that gets out of the way so that the people can create jobs. I have no need for an O-bwana. (Swahili for false smile, false words, false hope).

Granted it is the job of politicians to legislate for a conducive business environment but other than that, please leave the creation of jobs to business people. Corporations like Lehmans have HIGHLY paid mangers who did not do a good job. It is stupid to blame the politicians for the collapse of Lehmans.

Amapatria   September 17th, 2008 2:59 am ET

Moving from the "dark side" to the light, good for you Lynn Forester! The are so many mindless automotons chanting "O-ba-ma O-ba-ma" these days it's refreshing to see someone who can think for themselves. To those who believe government should create jobs – it's our capitalist system and individual freedoms that should be creating jobs you socialist twits!

TX Lady   September 17th, 2008 2:59 am ET

If I thought for even a minute that Obama really had the same ideas and plans as Sen. Clinton I might vote for him. When he first appeared on the scene I wanted to learn more about him, he seemed at first like the answer to this country's problem. Then I bought and read his books, listened to him when he gave speeches and watched as he mesmerized the American people. He's a phony, he can't do what he promises, the numbers don't add up. I do believe he would bring change, I don't think I would like the kind of change he offers. I work very hard for what I have, I don't want to give it to those who sit home and do nothing. I managed to put myself through college while working a full time job and raising 3 daughters as a single mom, I know what it is like on both sides of the fence. I don't believe people have a right to hand outs. Get off your butt and work for what you want. I donate every week to help the elderly and children, they can't do for themselves. I don't want to have to support the lazy too. When Obama made his choice for VP it only reinforced for me his inability to make good decisions. NO OBAMA, NO WAY!!

I'll trust the great Senater from Illinois when he offers:

- The date of his last illegal drug use
- His willingness to submit to a drug test
- An explanation of what took place in the limo with Larry Sinclair
- Why he refuses to turn over his cell phone records from the night of his illegal drug used and homosexual sex

I'm waiting....

D.A.A.   September 17th, 2008 2:59 am ET

I would say he probably is an elitist.

HE MOST CERTAINLY NEVER GAVE ME A REASON TO TRUTH HIM.

"I don't know boss . . . this one's gonna be hard to throw under the bus"

Obama is at teacher and Americans hate school   September 17th, 2008 2:59 am ET

Wow, this lady owns a corporation and is married to a banker, and she has the nerve to not like Obama for being "elitist"? No, I'm positive that couldn't be the reason. That is silly coming from a woman who is educated and was rational until Hillary lost the primaries. I'm wondering if some evil person recently gave de Rothschild (a very elitist sounding name btw) and Fiorina both lobotomies that rendered them dumb. Fiorina won't stop babbling on about who could or couldn't run a corporation, and now this one is supporting a candidate based on the fact that she is afraid of black men. I hope that these two women don't reflect the general mindset of today's white businesswomen...

Ironic?   September 17th, 2008 2:58 am ET

Brave move by a brave woman. This is news because it's an example of what's happening all over the country. Many of my customers (I'm in remodeling) have stated that they can't stand Obama or Biden, and they're jumping tickets. Also, Hillary's policies were way more conservative than Obama's. Apart from healthcare, she's very similar to McCain.

By the way "Hypocrasy Rules", learn how to spell. And how come every Republican that pulls himself/herself up by his/her bootstraps is a hillbilly, and every Democrat that does so decides no one else can do it without government help? Oh, well. It probably doesn't matter much because if Obama violated the Logan act as per the NYPost, this election's over. McChange is on the way!

Mike   September 17th, 2008 2:58 am ET

Obama does not need this, or any other woman's support. He is the best MAN for the job!

Craig Nazor   September 17th, 2008 2:58 am ET

Our economy is tanking through bailouts of huge corporations (eight years of bad economic policy from Bush/Cheney, about which McCain has said that the fundamentals are sound), the last in a line of strong hurricanes has decimated Galviston and Houston (global climate change, which McCain wants to deal with by drill, drill, drill...), we are losing to the Taliban in Afgahnistan through poor diplomacy with Pakistan and by being bogged down in a war in Iraq (a war McCain thinks he can "win"), and now the wealthy, supposedly Democrat CEO of an international holding company and wife of a Knight of the British Kingdom is calling Obama an "elitist" and because of that is going to support McCain...

Talk about the "silly season". Does Lynn Forester de Rothschild think we are stupid just like McCain thinks we are stupid? She's no Democrat, just like he's no straight-talker. All these millionaires are the real elitists, and it's no surprise that they would support each other. But Obama/Biden much better represents the interests of the majority of the American people!

Independent in Florida   September 17th, 2008 2:57 am ET

I think a significant number of Hillary supporters are leaning in that direction as well. Not the majority, but enough to tip the election for John McCain.

GM   September 17th, 2008 2:56 am ET

Brava, Ms. Rothschild, for your courageous stand.

This not-so-prominent Clinton backer and lifelong Democrat will be joining you and countless other similarly placed Democrats in voting for, working toward the election of, and financially supporting the campaign of John McCain.

Katrina   September 17th, 2008 2:56 am ET

The endorsement came from Lynn because she is a "thinking" democrat.

Independent conservative   September 17th, 2008 2:54 am ET

You liberals crack me up! If Obama doesn't need her vote then I guess he doesn't need mine. I would, however, like to point out that he is in a dead heat with his opponent, so you all should be careful when writing people off. Undecided voters luke myself just might feel inclined to give our vote to someone who does need it. All of the hateful comments from liberals directed towards those who dont support Obama really need to stop. Obama really is like every other politician. Those colors have shown ever brighter ever since McCain has began closing in on his lead.

Liberty is On Life Support   September 17th, 2008 2:54 am ET

Haha... government just grew by $85B with the AIG Bailout. It does not really matter who wins in November, both sets of candidates will just make things worse for everybody. You want more government in your lives? You are gonna get it, and surely more than you ever wanted.

canuck4barack   September 17th, 2008 2:54 am ET

"Who is she calling an elitist? Then you have McCain with 100 million in the bank and 9 houses."
Exactly what I was thinking. As for the reasoning that she doesn't like him because he is black, I think it has more to do with the fact she is one of those poor, unfortunates in that 5-10% group that Obama is targeting with increased taxes. It must be worrisome for the poor soul, when you consider her increase in taxes will far outweigh the average American's yearly salary!

Sam   September 17th, 2008 2:53 am ET

I'm sorry... if your name is Lynn Forester de Rothschild, then you don't get to call ANYONE an elitist.

mascmen7   September 17th, 2008 2:53 am ET

It does not matter who win Prez race as David Rockefeller and Rothschilds will order whoever wins to do their will. That is the dirty secret noone talks about for fear of being punished.

manhandler   September 17th, 2008 2:53 am ET

I agree. I'm a liberal independent who supported Hillary during the primary. I'm angry at the Dems. for forcing Obama on us. The Democratic leadership of Reid, Pelosi and Dean ought to lose their jobs big time after Obama loses this election. I'm now for McCain. He is NOT Bush, he's the only that seems to realize that the real problem is the outside money in politics and that's the only way anything is ever gonna change. i feel just like she does about Obama. I don't like him!!!

EMC   September 17th, 2008 2:52 am ET

Hey irony, governments create very few jobs. It is private business that creates the jobs in this country. But I guess that would change if obama bin biden was elected? It is the failed policies of the democrats and the environmental whacks that have ruined this country.

Fake Forester   September 17th, 2008 2:51 am ET

Either Lynn Forester is a republican by nature, or she don't like strong black men who has the audacity to run for president of the United States. For her to endorse McCain is about the fakest thing I have ever seen anyone do.

Dave   September 17th, 2008 2:50 am ET

This is America... people vote their own choices... I admire this person for bucking party lines and voting for the best candidate. I too am energized by the Republican ticket and have decided to cast my vote contrary to what the pundits demand. If the Democrats were as eager to investigate the failure of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as they are to criticize the Republicans and try to hang every thing that goes wrong on Bush in hopes of splitting voters into opposing groups then perhaps I would reconsider. But I am not holding my breath. There are far too many "D" party loyalists who looted the bank to let that happen!

My comment for Pelosi: Drill Babby Drill... you lost me when you put your party and your stubborn beliefs ahead of your constituents.

I really don't see much difference between HC or BO. But BO's snide treatment of HC during the Primaries and they way the Media has built his ego has convinced me that he does feel he's above others.

What sealed the point was BOs small town guns & religion comment. I just don't like folks that make such broad generalizations about people. That comment belittles & insults some 50 million between the coast people (a lot of those small town folks are Democrats).

The trip to Europe didn't help either.

Obama appears to be a Chameleon putting on the color he needs for a situation. Remember his "Good Friend" of 20 years, Pastor Wright? Obama "kicked him to the curb" when he was no longer convenient. With character like this, consider how he will be in Foreign Policy; Obama had the audacity to claim he did not know his "Good Friend" of 20 years was racist. Is Obama also blind and deaf? now thats irony   September 17th, 2008 2:40 am ET

You see politicians don't create jobs – the American people do. Politicians do take other peoples money – killing jobs. You see beside "common good" items like defense and some infrastructure – money is used less efficiently moves slower and kills wealth in government. Its a fact proven thought all history without fail.

Gas prices high in Alaska? They've always been higher because the economies of scale dont allow the local refining power. Alaskans bnefit by getting back payments for their oil (whick Palin negotiated a huge increase in).

There's alot more but of course I'm going to bed – Ive got a business to run in the morning – not a govt job I can sleepwalk though.

Liberals= intolerant, ignorant, devoid of logic

BTW: Has The High & Holy Anointed One ever fully explained why he chose Joe "Mr. Eloquence" Biden over Clinton as his VP running mate ? I'd love to hear somebody ask him that question without a teleprompter around, or, better, yet, with a teleprompter that malfunctions in mid-sentence.

Rife Madson   September 17th, 2008 2:36 am ET

Of course, this is the case with millions of Clinton supporters.

Obama is in big trouble. Throughout the primary season, Obama consistently underperformed his pre election polling numbers.

I am amazed at how inept the Democrats are. Had you nominated Hillary, this election would have been a slam dunk.

In reality, with the exception of Dennis Kucinich, any other Democratic candidate who ran in the primary would have won this election easily.

But the Dems got hoodwinked by the charismatic snake oil salesman and nominated the one man who couldn't win the election that was tailor made for them.

Pathetic indeed.

Thanks again, Democrats!

Obama supporters still chithing about how Obama has a better shot of "uniting washington"?

you'd have to be either an idiot or Obama himself to actually believe that over McCain, who's taken heat from his own party so often in the past for voting his conscience.

Based on the incoherent nature of the comments on this board and in light of the numerous misspellings in the text of them one might be tempted to believe that Obama supporters are ignoramuses. I would never say that though because it would not be in keeping with the “new tone” in Washington. People like Joe Lieberman and this woman are putting the country first by supporting McCain because they know that despite their political leanings putting a political climber with zero experience, in the White House, at a time like this would be grossly negligent.

Patricia   September 17th, 2008 2:33 am ET

McCain over Obama? Elitist?? Has she or McCain ever visited Castlemont High School, in Oakland, Calfiornia? Not Likely. This is my alma mater – a school over 60 years old – it looks, smells and is run like a prison. I bet Obama has probably visited a simialrly decrepit schoolin Chicago while serving as a community organizer. Obama is elitst? In whose world? The world McCain actually believes it'sokay to even think about stationing National Guard or regular army troops in certain communties – USA communities – to control (cage) crime??

I am almost beside myself with despair. We have no country of the people, by the people or for the people. We must revolt – stop buying things, drive less, travel overseas less (yes less) focus on improving our country, the USA, not Iraq, Afghanistan Pakistan or Iran – this country, the USA . We all live well together or we perish miserably together.

Palin is frighting. We need to keep aborting babies. We need higher taxes and no military anywhere. We need to realize we are the enemy and that Bush and Cheney blew up the twin towers and that Bush used secret weapons to send Katrina into New Orleans so the Democrats would leave the city and Lousiana would get its first Republican Governor. And we must fight voter IDs so that we can continue to allow everyone who wants to to vote, and vote and vote.
Isn't it that Palin who is so frightening!

McCain and Palin have demonstrated clear responsibility over policies, state government etc. I'm still waiting for a significant piece of legislation or anything that has showed Obama being responsible for something. I just can't trust him...

karvictho   September 17th, 2008 2:29 am ET

Lynn is clearly not a Democrat or she would be doing ask Hilary requested, and that's to support the party–which ultimately must win, regardless of who is running, if America is going to pull itself out of the crises created by the Republicans (the group which Lynn is now supporting.)

It's good she is gone if the only reason she helped was to get a special favor from Hilary, after Hilary won.

On a more general note, the election process has been great. It has given all of us, the entire world in fact, a chance to think about our morality–our basic way of acting and interacting in our society. Lynn and the other turncoats could do a bit more thinking about themselves, and what being a traitor means. And while on that subject, perhaps she will get around to asking Palin why she supports the Alaska Independence Party which wants Alaska to break away from the US, become independent, and take its oil/gas with it. Another moral question, for another day.

Nobody with any intelligence could vote for Obama with a clear conscience. He's probably the most unqualified person in the senate, much less as candidate for president. No doubt he is one of the most unqualified people in the national elected gov't. It's deeply troubling that America has lost its mind and 40% of the population say they would actually cast a vote for him. Just unbelievable what has happened to the US. One of the reasons McCain probably chose Palin is to show that her very limited experience (clearly not qualified for VP) is still much higher than Obama – and to showcase Obama for the ridiculous joke that he is. Brilliant strategy of exposing this fraud huckster.

ela   September 17th, 2008 2:19 am ET

Uh, Irony (post #1):

I think I can speak for most Alaskans - as an independent Alaskan myself, and one of the 80% or so of us who approve of her job performance here - that Sarah Palin is doing an excellent job of governing our state. She has helped bring much of the state GOP hierarchy down and has been doing much to bring us a natural gas pipeline, also.

You will notice from your own link that Alaska's unemployment rates almost perfectly mirror the national rates - and happen for a variety of reasons here, and under a variety of circumstances. If people here were personally blaming Palin for such figures, I doubt she'd be as popular here as she is...and she was that popular BEFORE McCain chose her as his VP, by the way.

Lynn Forester de Rothschild – cultured, wise and wealthy, yes – but unlike the Hollywood collective super wealthy phonies – see latest fundraiser of 29.500,- a plate = $ 9 Million in one evening – she's at least honest that she cannot support a person of mediocre intelligence, who was groomed his entire life by the dangerous radical Left. The media fails to inform the public, who this man from Chicago really is, and that he and is 'team' must not be in charge of the US.

Good move Lynn! A lot of Hillary supporters are going to vote for McCain. He's got the experience, he's a war hero, he crosses party lines to get things done. Funny how these Obama people keep trying to suggest that Obama has more experience than Palin, but they don't dare suggest that Obama is even close to McCain's experience. Even more funny is that Palin has far more experience as a Mayor, Governor and business owner than Obama could ever dream of.

Obama should have picked Hillary for VP....now he will pay the price for not picking her!

Obama wants wealth re-distribution.. Take from one person and give it to someone who did not earn it...Kind of sounds like theft!!! America cant afford Obama.........

Peachy Keen   September 17th, 2008 2:06 am ET

Never heard of this person, so who cares who she votes for. And she thinks Obama is an elitist? She's married to someone who is knighted. Now, THAT is an elitist.

CementHead   September 17th, 2008 2:04 am ET

Hey Irony: has Obama ever created a job? or Signed significant Legislation? No.

Obama is a complete question mark on so many topics, and in consistent on key positions like Iraq..... great charisma, but "Hope" is not a strategy for a country..its emotional...we need hard hitters who have actully done something in National/Int'l government... Clinton was right in S.C., " this (obama) is the biggest fairytale I've ever seen...."

Americanguy   September 17th, 2008 2:04 am ET

Have any of you people looked at the state of affairs in California? Who runs California! And don't try to blame Bush for the mess California is in either. This is what you want for the whole country! Holy Jesus! For one second, in your brainwashed minds, explained to yourself what is happening in California, and even Michigan and whose is to blame before you spout off why we should elect more liberals!!!

McCain 08 / Palin 12

Anonymous   September 17th, 2008 2:02 am ET

Maybe she doesn't like the fact that he has made many questionable evaluations of the character of those who surround him.

Rezko, Kilpatrick, Ayres...

Not to mention he lied about taking public financing and voted for Bush's wire taps.

AnnForTheTruth   September 17th, 2008 2:02 am ET

No, the person is not thinking about Hillary Clinton the person or HRC policies. Forester is thinking about the fact that she is included in the 5 percent earning over $250,000 who taxes will be raised. Isn't that typical of greedy person, selfish and wants everything.

In Good Company   September 17th, 2008 2:02 am ET

A freaking Rothschild thinks Obama is an elitist? People act like he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

Montana)))))))))))))   September 17th, 2008 2:01 am ET

What a flake. Lynn Forester de Rotweiler (through her spokesperson ~ ha ha). And why does she even merit any press? Scram ~ you old money bag ~ you showed your true colors ~ I'm sure there are people "who don't like or trust you" ~ you can put lipstick on a pig.............

Big E   September 17th, 2008 2:01 am ET

You silly Libs, elitism has nothing to do with how much money you have, it has everything to do with your ideas and that YOU think YOU know what's better for everyone else.

You guys are seriously losing your minds, and I LOVE it. You guys threatened to move to Canada when Kerry lost the election and didn't follow through, but you better not make false promises again. Wait – I'm Canadian!! We already have enough of you Liberal losers here!!!

David   September 17th, 2008 2:00 am ET

Moron. Way to spit in the faces of everyone that *really* supports Hillary.

Brett   September 17th, 2008 2:00 am ET

You people need to come up with an origional idea...McSame, McBush, McPain...all been beat to death.

First off, there are hundreds of reasons NOT to vote for NObama. First, he has NO executive experience and last time I checked, Palin is not running for President, yet =)
Next, he has tons of skeletens in his closet (how did he get into Harvard? Look it up. A Muslum extremeist and a lawyer for the Black Panthers and MalcomX helped).
He was in Congress for less time than Palin was Gov.
He suggests "Change" yet picks a 36 year statue in Congress for a VP
Has NEVER done anything to help the country, never authored a singel bill, voted over 130 time PRESENT. He is worthless.

I don't blame her for leaving, she has a little sense...more than you idiots. You complain about Bush, but who has the lowest ratings? Bush, or your Democratic Congress???

tony   September 17th, 2008 2:00 am ET

I feel exactly the same way.. I supported Obama early on but his poor judgement in choosing a VP caused me to look at him more closely.. I to will be supporting McCain!!

no2bama   September 17th, 2008 1:56 am ET

Good! Another vote for McCain / Palin!

Trasa, Texas   September 17th, 2008 1:56 am ET

Elitist? Sounds like your the elitist with a husband called Sir Evelyn... Who cares, if that's how you feel, fine, but you don't need to announce it to the whole world, just wait until Nov 4 and vote for McBush. DNC needs to kick you off the team. Besides, most of America feels the same way about McCain, we don't trust him and he's the most elitist of them all.

Independent Just Decided to Vote for Obama   September 17th, 2008 1:56 am ET

So she is in effect endorsing the small-minded Sarah Palin.

What a super STAB in the back to Hillary Clinton!

Curliss   September 17th, 2008 1:55 am ET

What dont you hard core Obama or Hillary supporter get? John McCain is no Bush. He is his own man. The democrats controlled the house and senate for the last two years ... they vetoed all sorts of housing and regulations for the financial sector. So, we are in the current mess because of them. Nothing at all to do with Bush. I supported Hillary because I got to know her and trust her. The same for McCain. Obama I dont trust and dont know. So, stop acting like children and vote for who you trust and know. Voting strictly party is a dying fade in the USA.

Go McCain / Palin! (former Hillary supporter)

polar bear   September 17th, 2008 1:55 am ET

you got it right, hypocrisy rules.

Pitiful. Rothschild was willing to go to the wall for Hillary, but not for what Hillary believes in. Guess she would rather see a President Palin than a President Clinton, or a Clinton in charge of health care.

Pitiful is right.

I agree with Lynn. I am also voting for McCain, and what a joy it will be to have Hillary in 2012. If Obama did not know that he was NOT in Denver, but that he was in Pueblo, how can we expect him to know how to run our country? Open your eyes and ears voters! Don;t be foolish to be taken in by his arrogance and nonsensical jargon.

Duncan Renaldo   September 17th, 2008 1:53 am ET

Hillary doesn't want Obama winning, this is no secret. The Clinton machine will be providing the McCain campaign with all kinds of help in the coming weeks.

bob in LA   September 17th, 2008 1:52 am ET

This woman obviously wasn't a real Clinton supporter or she supported her for reasons other than her beliefs.
Clinton's policies are very similar to those of Obama. I too, have problems with him, but my core values, and what I see as the problems and the solutions to those problems will be best solved by Obama.
Clinton and McCain have one thing in comon- they are both good people, but they do not share any views that can make you go from one to the other.
Mrs de Rothchild- what's in this for you and your obviously wealthy family to have McCain in the White House?

irony of irony   September 17th, 2008 1:51 am ET

Blah, Blah, Blah... who cares who this woman is supporting!

Forester is not a true Democrat, rather she appears to be a closet republican. No true Democrat who supports and holds to the fundamental beliefs and ideologies of the Democratic party could ever SUPPORT and HELP a republican nominee, especially one like John McCain.

CNN.. please stop reporting on people like her, your attempt to stir up trouble and discord is obvious (and disheartening). The true Democrats are united against McCain. For once, try to curb your right-wing bias and give us real news!

McCain/Palin

Some people are such hypocrites....you have money coming out of the wazoo ...and have the nerve to call someone else 'elistist'....it's utterly ridiculous coming from her ...as well as McCain....come on now...they are truly trying to play the American public for stupid....

Elisabeth Montgomery   September 17th, 2008 1:49 am ET

The idea that you don't like someone as a person is OK I guess if you don't know them well. For instance, I really dislike the guys who were fighter bombers dropping bombs on the Vietnamese - as opposed to the troops on the ground who really had to live and fight hand to hand. I just dislike those äloof" types. And I don't like back-woodsy women who sling their rifles over their backs, don't watch their kids very well - at least not like we do in MY neighborhood. Obama is educated and I guess that makes him elitist. So was his own father and mother for heaven's sake! Ph.Ds - can you imagine sucha heritage for our country?
I can - I don't know Obama well but I wouldn't trust a bomber hero as far as I could throw him!.

Bear   September 17th, 2008 1:48 am ET

My goodness! Are we bitter? This is someone that doesn't like Obama. No reason to call her racist, or and elitist or whatever. Moreover, the attack on Palin continues, despite the fact her constituents love her – 82% approval.
Here's your problem – your candidate is an empty suit. If he weren't black, no one would have considered his run for President.

Hollywood underground   September 17th, 2008 1:48 am ET

She sure has upset the Kool aid drinkers. What is there to trust about a man who doesn't know what the word transparency means. Who tries to hide his past and can only make promises because he has no track record to stand on.

anonymous   September 17th, 2008 1:48 am ET

An elitist? Can someone please inform her that McCain chose Sarah Palin as his running mate? Yes, Sarah Palin who simply gave potshots during her nomination acceptance speech instead of addressing issues. This is the same Sarah Palin who is being hidden under lock and key because the GOP doesn't want to expose her ignorance on the national issues.

Wait, I'm sorry. What I just said probably makes me a sexist, right?

PALIN=G.W.   September 17th, 2008 1:46 am ET

John in California   September 17th, 2008 1:39 am ET

She's useless. She's the opposite of everything Hillary represents: Lynn hasn't worked hard, hasn't earned anything.

It's no surprise that an empty social climber would endorse McCain over Obama; Lynn represents the worst of America in her desire for personal power and connections exceeding her desire to see a single one of Hillary's issues come to fruition.

With friends like Lynn, who needs enemies?

I am an Elitist   September 17th, 2008 1:37 am ET

I think anyone who says runs for president is an elitist (that includes the Clintons). They are saying that they are better than anyone else to lead this country. I for one do not want anybody to be my president who thinks they are not better than the average joe.

Fmr engineer   September 17th, 2008 1:35 am ET

I find it interesting that many of Hillary Clinton's supporters that make the headlines are *already* highly powerful women that don't have much of a track record in women's issues.

Thank You VERY VERY Much.

EVERY time, I hear or see a woman say I will vote for Mccain because Hillary is not the Dem VP nominee or the nominee, I look at them and say "you are disgrace to feminism and to the nation"!!!

We NEVER favored hillary JUST because she IS woman – she is a great leader, has better values and policies AND works for people and executes .... Lynn OR whoever is voting for GOP – do you care for people?? Do you want to quietly sit there while your hard earned money is wasted on stupid wars????? You all are either complete idiots OR belong to one of these popular vote (blind folded by Race/Sex/Religion etc etc ) OR a rich business person / lobbyist afraid OR no role to play with the new Democratic administration!!!

So Lynn – is Palin offering you the lipstick for the slit? She has been chosen NOT to uplift women like us but a pure political play....
C'mon....

orson Lo   September 17th, 2008 1:29 am ET

Forester is a sole loser. If the candidate she backs can turn around and back Obama, why can't she. She was sucked in too deep emotionally on some counter Obama issues that she cannot tell red from the blue, pity.

Ron   September 17th, 2008 1:26 am ET

Ouch   September 17th, 2008 1:26 am ET

Try to act like Franklin, Jack, or Bill and maybe you'll get elected. naner naner naner

Lou R   September 17th, 2008 1:25 am ET

The election dynamics has turned into one sorry and bad joke on the American people. The McCain campaign is a despicable example of taking a sum amount of zero and giving it a value the gullible American voter can relate to. People do get the government they deserve and will do so as the continue to vote against their better interests. The U.S., its moral standing in the world, its failing economy and crude/rude politics simply show the county has moved downward on the backside of its life cycle curve. So be it at the hands of the willingly uninformed!

RapidRay   September 17th, 2008 1:24 am ET

Elitist?

Buh-bye!

April in CA   September 17th, 2008 1:22 am ET

This is just too much! I'm not a big Obama supporter and I will vote for him, but she is CALLING him an elitist? With a an international banker husband named Sir Evelyn de Rothschild and houses in London and New York. geesh

Paul   September 17th, 2008 1:21 am ET

A Rothschild is calling the black son of a single mother who worked his way up to his current position and elitist.

David Doney   September 17th, 2008 1:18 am ET

Let's analyze this woman's decision. His policies are virtually the same as Clinton's. Senator Obama is 47 years old, has a wonderful family and a pretty lean arrest record. He's been thoroughly vetted by the media and others in a way no ordinary citizen has. That leaves just one alternative. Shame on her!

Ryan   September 17th, 2008 1:17 am ET

For every democrat willing to endorse John McCain there are 10 Republicans willing to endorse Barack Obama.

jean-jacques   September 17th, 2008 1:17 am ET

Good luck Geraldine Ferrarro 2.

When will you left leaning voters comprehend the fact that not everyone agrees with your position? Not understanding this simple premise is tantamount to fascism.

Obama's GrandMother paid for Barry Sotero to go the Best school in Hawaii. His GrandMother could have bought a home instead of the mini fortune she spent on her Grandson who later changed his lastname to Obama.

Mr. O,Poverty has never been poor. Oh yeah, Dreams of My Father he states that he had to eat soups out of the can. Wow! How many Rich Boys learn to cook and budget their food after they have been spoiled?

Really, Obama is the Cult of Personality. People need to get a whiff of why he voted for FISA: Axelrod's clients are ATT&T and other communications corporate clients. FISA was designed especially to protect AT&T from being sued for Illegally Wiretapping the phones of citizens.

Wake up before the Sound Bytes start controlling your sense of realty.

sneaky pete   September 17th, 2008 1:15 am ET

If she is voting for McCain and is even going as far as voting for him then she should lose whatever position she holds with the DNC. She clearly does not hold the same values as the Democratic party and does not deserve anything from them.

Rob indetroit   September 17th, 2008 1:14 am ET

She's calling him elitist, and she's a Rothchild, talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

I sure hope that the DNC boots her from that committee before she even gets a chance to make that endorsement.

Isidore Tamo   September 17th, 2008 1:14 am ET

What a short minded person to claim: I don't like him. I thought she will say something about Obama's policies that she doesn't like. She has a different motive to support a republican offering the same policies as Bush, and who is against the women right to choose. I will respect her if she reveals her true motives; however, based on what I read about her so far, she does not have the intellectual capacity to do so: what a hypocrite and looser.

a bitter racist   September 17th, 2008 1:14 am ET

Arizonan for Obama/Biden   September 17th, 2008 1:13 am ET

Seriously, not to play this card, but she really sounds like a racist. For real.

Robert   September 17th, 2008 1:13 am ET

This is exactly why Hillary lost the primary. It wasnt because of Hillary policies it was because of her supporters making Hillary look elitist and do as i say and not as i do kind of attitude. They choose people over policy and that my friends is why she lost. I feel sorry for Hillary though because I dont think its something she can control.

James in STL   September 17th, 2008 1:12 am ET

~~~~~ TO TISH~~~~~~~~~
"Obama doesn't need her he has millions of supporters!!! She can take her big mouth and her money!! Who needs her!!!"
It's this attitude of Obama supports that is costing Obama the election. His numbers are dropping daily even in "very blue" states. You bloggers said the same things about all of the Hillary supporters while she was running and shortly thereafter. NEWSFLASH you do need this supporter of Hillary and every other one in the country if you want Obama to win. Obama was very arrogant in not choosing Hillary as his VP and if he loses this election he only has himself to blame. The fact is Sarah Palin is exciting. She's new and she's exciting. Joe Biden brings no excitement to the ticket. It's like adding another Grandpa, who although a great man doesn't add any energy. Obama has always been the media's golden boy, but now Sarah is stealing the show!
12345678   September 17th, 2008 1:12 am ET
I'm a 46 years old working mom and a Hillary fan. To me, there's no comparison between Hillary and Pilan: Hillary put her family 1st while Bill was in trouble. Pilan was too busy catching her life time chance to care about her 17 years old daughter. If she doesn't care about her daughter, how can I count on her to care about mine? Hillary worked hard in 18 months to get the votes, Pilan takes advantages to be on the GOP ticket 1st and then towards her rail goal -President; I'm not an Obama fan but I'm going to vote for him simply because I don't trust Pilan.
Obama Rules   September 17th, 2008 1:05 am ET
I'm sorry. Who is actually running for the presidency on the Republican ticket? If people, women in particular, are voting for the Republican ticket because John McCain opted for Palin to garner Senator Clinton's 18 million votes then we are all stupider than I thought. Don't be duped people, we know Senator Clinton and Sarah Palin is no Senator Clinton. Some might call it a shrewd move on Palin McBush's part. However, I find it desperately sad. By the way, McBush needs to stop hidding behind Palin's skirts, and let's talk issues.
Are we voting for a legacy or for our future? If the latter, then Obama is the clear choice.
john michael otieno   September 17th, 2008 1:05 am ET
Forester, you should realize that you have the free will of choice, if you don't like obama for your own person reasons, thats up to you, mccain is there waiting for the likes of your kind with both arms open, i personnally don't like him, i think he is too old and unhealthy and latetly all he can tell Americans is his out-dated military stories, he is obvoiusly out of touch and out of ideas, maybe you might be of help to him, so please feel free.
B   September 17th, 2008 1:04 am ET
WOW! This lady is calling Obama an elitist? I guess Obama's plan for raising taxes on millionaires scares her, as she (and McCain) may have to reduce their muliti-mansion, jet-setting lifestyles a little. Or is it that he's too black, or too male? RIDICULOUS – don't these people listen to what is coming out of their mouths?
michelle   September 17th, 2008 1:04 am ET
This is great news. Obama's presidency would set a bad example for our young people because it would show that people can advance their career without any real experiences and achievement but only pretty and empty words. Women (and men) who cherish the true American values will not vote for Sen. Obama.
Ron   September 17th, 2008 1:04 am ET
Obama should have picked Hillary for VP.; then it could be the battle of pant suits.
Jeff   September 17th, 2008 1:03 am ET
Oh no, Lady de Rothschild thinks that Obama is an elitist! Clearly, the issues that matter in this election are irrelevant to her ladyship, but they are drastically important to the average American who is not a member of the British peerage. Milady, go back to your parlour games...and don't worry, if Obama is elected you won't have to invite him for tea.
Steve   September 17th, 2008 1:03 am ET
Elitist? Please let her go on TV, she can only help Obama by endorsing McCain.
Jeremy   September 17th, 2008 1:00 am ET
Being educated, rational and fair makes you an elitist, while being ignorant, scared and hypocritical simply exemplifies your small-town values. Awesome. Cool country.
McCain Palin power   September 17th, 2008 12:59 am ET
Dem's stop your crying she just figured out Obama for what he is a phony. He has no experience running anything and made his biggest mistake shunning Clinton and he will pay for that. A community organizer is nothing compared to governor of Alaska. McCain is popular for working with Dem's and Republican's to get things done and that's what America wants, someone to stop all the fighting and work together to fix the country and the polls are showing it. Obama also is going to lose a lot of NRA votes as they will endorse McCain and Palin. Ohio is experiencing a lot of excitement for McCain Palin.
Roger Porter   September 17th, 2008 12:58 am ET
The nerve of such a person calling Obama an elitist. What can it mean other than that he has had the best education possible in Amertica, and is a clear, subtle thinker. She has more money than God and homes internationally. And she calls him an elitist?!? This is utterly perverse.
Alvin   September 17th, 2008 12:58 am ET
Such a myopic decision Forester has made. Because "I don't like him," I am going to defect to the party whose ideals are completely different than mine. On the other hand, the Republicans have perfected the "cut off my nose to spite my face" act so I suppose she is going where she belongs.
Robert   September 17th, 2008 12:58 am ET
Well, i don't understand her reasoning but she is free to do what she wants. I wonder what Hillary thinks though? If i was in Hillary's shoes i would come out publicly and let her supporters know what she thinks about this. I think Hillary would be wise to dump this person from her inner circle and of course the Democratic party needs to boot her off the team. Why can't Dems be a little more faithful like the GOP. Oh well what can you do?
I sure hope Obama wins, not because he is a Dem, but because he is just a better person.
Take care
State O'Decline   September 17th, 2008 12:57 am ET
Kevin from MN   September 17th, 2008 12:57 am ET
Apparently if you are smart and graduate from Harvard, these days that means your an elitist. whatever happened to the days when people wanted elite smart people to run their government??? Why is everyone so obsessed with having some ordinary guy(or gal) that they would feel comfortable having a beer with? Do people just want to feel better about themselves? Like they have a shot to be president too?
This is awesome watching the disgusting left-wing party break down. Welcome to the good side Lynn, the winning side. BO is NOT trustworthy and even dems are coming to their senses. Maybe you guys should stop spitting vile nonsense and running people away from your party.
Frustrated Independent   September 17th, 2008 12:56 am ET
who cares, a multi millionaire with an aristocratic last name talking about people who are elitists. Lynn, we don't care what you think, you are an idiot and we hope you leave the country for good. And I was a staunch hillary supporter.
Ohio Voter   September 17th, 2008 12:54 am ET
This is ridiculous. This voter trusts McCain and Palin more than Obama and Biden? Has she been following the campaign? Almost every media outlet has called out McCain and Palin for their lies.
And a member of the de Rothschild family is claiming that Obama–a candidate who just paid off his student loans–is elitist? And all of this at the same time that the US economy literally is crashing? If this is the type of thoughtlessness–and personal pique–that motivates American voters, then we truly deserve what we get.
Ms. de Rothschild, when I lose my job, my house, and the value in my investment funds, can I come live in one of your foreign homes?
rrow   September 17th, 2008 12:53 am ET
We're with you Ms. Rothschild! As a member of the DNC seing firsthand, the demise of democracy at the RBC, caucas fraud, nominating denial for Hillary and forced, fixed roll call vote – not following the will of the people , would be enough to make anyone run to McCain/Palin. I know I and many others will be joining you. PUMA
Anonymous   September 17th, 2008 12:53 am ET
What a brave lady to buck the anointed Obama. Didn't Obama literally say he didn't need Hillary supporters? This woman is doing the same as me.....defecting until we clean up the Democrat Party. I'll be voting for McCain in '08 as well. I'm no longer a Democrat. The far left has taken over. I'm not comfortable and my gut is telling me things are not adding up with Obama. I read his book and he contradicts himself all the time when questioned about his past.
I can't wait to vote.
Barack   September 17th, 2008 12:53 am ET
Anyone not for voting for me is racist and I will bring my wrath upon them. My disciples are just and fair... as long as you fall in line and accept me as your one and true God.
Trysh   September 17th, 2008 12:53 am ET
So, she is basing her decision on her dislike of Obama personally. She hasn't said he can't do the job; she just doesn't like him. With thinking like that, she sounds like she should be a republican anyway.
Crispus   September 17th, 2008 12:52 am ET
Look her up she is the epitome of rich "ELITIST". I guest that Obama just is not the type of person she would let in her country club. Just another bigot with no substance.
reagan   September 17th, 2008 12:51 am ET
Expect more Democrats to endorse the McCain/Palin ticket in these closing days.
As a Hillary supporter I and millions of other voters remember EXACTLY what kind of sleazy slime ball campaign Obama ran against her all the way to the day of the elections the Obama camp and it's supporters slimed the voting process by chastising African Americans if they didn't vote for Obama.
Thank you Mrs. Rothschild, for going above your party to make sure the right candidate is elected into office this November.
Sage   September 17th, 2008 12:50 am ET
what makes Barack Obama is simply, Obama is solely accountable to the people, not the corporations and special interest groups...Palin likes to say how they will shake up Washington, Obama will fix Washington....while McCain likes to say "country first?. Obama is country first in his actions...
kim   September 17th, 2008 12:50 am ET
what exactly is an elitist?? palin, obviously not - uneducated and dumb (different things), self proclaimed red neck, etc. but this chick, mccain, bush, cheney . . . . hate to break it to you, but anyone who is running seriously for president, who went to harvard, naval acadamy, law school, has millions upon millions . . . is, compared to % of us, an elitist. frankly i'd rather have the "elite" ie - above average in every way - running the country, not someone who is in way over her head.
Paul Nolan   September 17th, 2008 12:49 am ET
Its a free country, she can do what she wants. I am sure there are Republicans who dont like McCain who will vote for Obama. Such is life. The end story is who wins, not who gives money. I gave money as a small individual but you dont cover small people. Just the big shots like this who get undue attention.
Independent from FL   September 17th, 2008 12:49 am ET
To everyone in this ticker:
People have every right to vote for whatever appeals to them.
Many people are voting for Obama because he's black, some women are voting for Sarah because she's a women.
Others vote for wanting Government Handouts.
Some people vote for Issues or even because of a preference for 1st lady.
Respect people's decision as I respect yours.
mr. truth   September 17th, 2008 12:47 am ET
if she was a real democrat, supporting the nominee shouldn't be a problem. this decision is all about race. why can't we just come out and say it. if hillary had won the nomination, white democrats would be counting on the black vote to get her in the white house, but a black democratic can't get your support. why don't you tell it like it is, you would rather support the white man instead of the more qualified black man. take the freaking sheet off for once in your life.
Greg H   September 17th, 2008 12:47 am ET
Lynn, let me ask you one question. How many 'average' Americans spend their time living between New York and London? Probably less than 1/2 of 1%. Lynn Forester de Rothschild, you have got to be one of the biggest hypocrites of all time to call Senator Obama an elitist.
Peter of Oregon   September 17th, 2008 12:47 am ET
another personality voter. Easily guided by negative ads.
To all moderate dems, come on in the water is warm. The dem party has been hijacked by the liberal left wing of your party. From weak national defense, 100% socialism, and anti-free speech the left has stolen your party. While Reps and mod dems may not agree on every issue. I think most of us can agree that a strong national defense, free speech, and capitalism are good ideas to form a partnership on. So come on over. McCain will anger the far right as much if not more as the far left in the coming years. He is not really a conservative like Bush no matter what the lhardcore left or the MSM say. So if you want things to change but are afraid of embracing hard core socialism and all the evils that come from that, vote for McCain this year.
Bethany   September 17th, 2008 12:47 am ET
She says her main reason is that she 'doesn't like' Obama. Sweetie, you don't have to LIKE someone in order to vote for them....if you actually had policies you believed in. Which, this woman clearly doesn't. Anyone else notice, that McPalin found another 'woman gimmick' to announce within 48 hours of the tide turning back to Obama. THIS IS A GIMMICK. He is going to spend close to 3/4 of a billion $ to try to get it. Listening to him I do not trust him as well. Oh by the way Obama, say hi to Commie Jane Fonda and the has been singer Barbra at your elieist $28,500 per person dinner.....wish I could afford that much for a night out rubbing elbows with the rich and un-famous. Tax Payer   September 17th, 2008 12:35 am ET
She is a business owner. What do you think the corporations will do when Obama increases their taxes?
1. They will look to move their business to another country....resulting in more lost jobs.
2. They will cut jobs to compensate for the decreased profit.
3. They will increase prices to compensate for the loss of profit.
Having a tax cut is all well and good....but what good does it do if you do not have a job?
@irony: gas prices and unemployment have gone up everywhere, not just Alaska. Is it any coincidence that in the two years Palin has been governor, the Democrats have controlled congress? Who's to blame? Gas prices have gone up from $2.50 to up past $4 since the Dems took majority in both houses. They're the ones who make the laws, smart one.
Kurt   September 17th, 2008 12:33 am ET
Millionaires calling other millionaires elitist; I think the term should be saved for use by people who are not millionaires. Similar to the term blacks won't let anyone else call them except themselves. Said in all seriousness. It's the pot calling the kettle black. This woman jet sets between New York and London. And has how many homes? Who knows? She hangs around presidents, prime ministers and royalty. One of which Conrad Black, called his birth country of Canada an "an oppressive little world". He was later convicted of criminal fraud charges, but this down to earth woman feels sorry for Lord Black. When will the madness stop in this campaign? Or are people in general this ingenuous.
This is the part of the story where democrats become bitter and start making excuses for why they are going to lose. Face it. Democrats picked the wrong nominee, Obama picked the wrong running mate, and McCain is going to win.
d barta   September 17th, 2008 12:30 am ET
What Alice in Wonderland world are we in that a multi-millionaire woman married to Sir Evelyn de Rothschild says she thinks Barack Obama is an "elitist"!!! She was on a DNC committe because she had big bucks and did fund-raising, sad to say. It will be wonderful to hear John McCain, who just denounced Obama for attending a fund-raiser with Barbara Streisand, stating that he, John McCain, wanted to stay with the workers in Ohio, embrace the support of Mrs. Evelyn de Rothschild! I'm sorry, but this is the United States of America and we kicked out the royalty a while ago!
DEM   September 17th, 2008 12:30 am ET
Tish, NC... You are absolutely right!!! Who needs her? The fact that she would spit in Hillary's face, by tossing aside all that Hillary has accomplished over the years, because she can't TRUST Obama? McCain's first wife trusted him, and look where that got her, and Palin has so many skeletons in her closet! PULEEEESE!!!.
Hey, Lynn Forester de Rothschild (that is the most elitist name I have ever heard), no one NEEDS your vote. So, why don't you exercise your right to NOT VOTE!!! And while you're at it... admit that you don't trust Obama because he's black.
Terri H   September 17th, 2008 12:30 am ET
I had to laugh! This is the best "vote of confidence" that McCain's camp has? She's voting for McCain because frankly, she doesn't like Obama? That's hilarious!
Obama/Biden '08 -
Please people – don't be afraid to balance your emotions with brains. Obama will make us work hard, but the reward will be great.
johnd   September 17th, 2008 12:27 am ET
More proof that Hillary cared nothing for her constituents. She stayed in so long, and so aggressively smeared Obama with misleading statements and outright lies, that many of her supporters can't move on without trying to exact revenge. For many, the answer to Hillary's question "were you in it for me, or for my policies" is exactly the same as hers; they were in it for Hillary. Why such misguided loyalty to someone who obviously never cared about those loyal constituents?
helen   September 17th, 2008 12:27 am ET
His policies are very thin in solution, it is all just talk. The Democrats have been in charge of Congress for over 3 years but have done absolutely nothing to help Americans and our ecomony. BTW, has anyone heard from Joe Biden recently? You know, he's that guy that is your cndidates running mate.
Is it any wonder that he's never been able to garner more than a few thousand votes when running for President?
LiLo of CALI   September 17th, 2008 12:21 am ET
Is there a reason why this made the news? It is sad that any person would cast a vote based on like/dislike. What happened to the issues at hand? The economy, Iraq, foreign policy and future American engagements, jobs, etc. I did not like Hilary Clinton, but she stood for many things I believe in. Had Hilary been running I would be voting for her come November. My big issues: Reproductive rights , Iraq and the economy.
First of all, she probably only backed Clinton during the primary because she knew Clinton would have a hard time during the general election if elected. As a Republican woman she was just backing Clinton so that the Republicans would run against her. If you didn't notice she gave the same old elitist statement the Republican have been trying to push as her reason. Sounds fishy to me.
I'd like to see Hillary Clinton give Forester de Rothschild her $100,000 back in a press conference across the street. This election is about issues and who would best lead the country with the values Hillary campaigned for. That person is Obama. To vote for anyone else it to say you don't care about Hilllary's values.
Alexander   September 17th, 2008 12:13 am ET
It seems confusing to me that someone with the last name "de Rothschild" would criticize someone else for elitism. If my memory of history serves, the Rothschilds were the wealthiest banking family in Europe for most of the 19th century, and the wealthiest family ever, if their value is adjusted for inflation. Their vast holdings - and the titles that accompany it - last until today.
So I don't think a European banking family is fit to determine which American leaders count are "elitist". We are all peasants compared to them.
Speaking of home(s), it sounds like that is certainly something she has in common with John McCain – a lot of homes. "Lady" Rothschild calling Obama elitist, now that's laughable.
Theresa   September 17th, 2008 12:09 am ET
Ok, this elitist thing has got to go. SO now everyone who works hard and attends an Ivy League School (none of which I have) is an elitist? No, an elitist is someone who belittles others for not knowing fine wine or cuban cigars. An elitist is someone who deliberately makes you feel unworthy for the person you are. He may be many things, but Obama isn't the least bit elitist. Newsflash–it's ok for people to have more money or go to a better school if they try for it. Really, it's ok. So please stop with the empty rhetoric, particularly if you only endorsed Clinton because she was a woman, and that's why you're moving over to McCain/Palin who have been on every news channel being debunked.
Steven Johnson   September 17th, 2008 12:08 am ET
Number one, how can a black man in America possibly be an elitist. Like he could ever gain membership into a wealthy white men's club.
Number two, I think you should have to disclose your IQ results if you originally supported Hilary Clinton and now your saying that you back McCain. That's not even a 180, that beats Tony Hawk's record.
fred   September 17th, 2008 12:08 am ET
She's married to someone with "Sir" as his title and "Rothchild" as a surname, she has residences in New York AND London (two of the world's most expensive cities) and calls the child of a single mother who spent considerable time in third world countries "elitist". Please give me a break.
TRBoston   September 17th, 2008 12:07 am ET
Who cares? What's more important is that McCain-Palin are currently doing everything in their power to thwart a bipartisan ethics investigation by way of political clout, refusing to honor subpoenas and generally ignoring the rule of law. Sound familiar? This ticket makes me sick.
JohnLee   September 17th, 2008 12:05 am ET
Voting for McCain means you either don't have a brain or you don't have a brain!
spiculari   September 17th, 2008 12:04 am ET
the rothschilds calling obama elitist? give me a break...
Gerald in Portland   September 17th, 2008 12:04 am ET
The rich old bag is worried about what will happen to her tax breaks and her ability to buy her way into our government. I'm a simple white guy who can tell the difference between an agent of change and someone who will change to get a vote.....I'll vote for Obama and encourage my friends to do the same...Cheers
Amanda   September 17th, 2008 12:04 am ET
This woman is a loser, who cares???
shahid   September 17th, 2008 12:04 am ET
Finally CNN is fair for a bit. Attacking Republicans all the time is not too good for CNN. Anyway, we need more of this no-none-sense individual to balance out this race. Obama gets all the advantages that any candicate can ask for in US history, from unpopular republican adminstration to liberal media, the economy, the Democratic winning momentum, the Internet age, etc.
If he's not winning – it's really, really dump of the master and followers and all the wasted money that Obama raised.
Ms Brown   September 17th, 2008 12:03 am ET
That is horrible. LOL! Good bye we don't want you. JUDAS!!!
Oreagano   September 17th, 2008 12:03 am ET
Irony, do your homework before you post. Alaska's unemployment rate has always been higher than the U.S. average. In fact before Palin became Governor it was 2% higher.
This is why dummies vote Democrat.
Crazythinker   September 17th, 2008 12:03 am ET
This person clearly vote for Hillary the person and not what Hillary stood for. Lynn is most probably a closet racist and think powerful African Americans are all elitists just because of the color of their skin and the fact that they are successful. Despicable traitor....we don't need the likes of her in our party.
Obama/Biden 08!!!
commonsense   September 17th, 2008 12:03 am ET
Sorry Lynn you could not possibly be a democrat and support the McCain/Palin ticket. Not sure what your motives are but it does not reflect the ideas of the democratic party. I suggest you change your party affliation and becomre a Republican. We really don't need you.
Rich   September 17th, 2008 12:03 am ET
Who's an elitist? Seriously?
A College Teacher   September 17th, 2008 12:03 am ET
I cannot believe that someone with the name of Rothschild is calling someone else "elitist." Come on. The true meaning is that she likes tax cuts and does not like people of color. That is clear to me.
There is no way she would abandon Democratic Party principles, except for those reasons.
Dave, Seattle   September 17th, 2008 12:03 am ET
I don't understand all these millionaires accusing Obama of being an elitist. I don't know what the term "elitist" means to these people. Are we to believe that the CEO of El Rothschild is woman of the common people? It's like members of the New York Yankees accusing the Florida Marlins of overspending on free agents. It makes no sense.
DR   September 17th, 2008 12:02 am ET
I'm sorry but who is she again? Why is she taking this so personal? She better hope Obama don't win in November because she's a goner as the DNC Platform Committee.
Laura   September 17th, 2008 12:02 am ET
Oh yeah!! Obama hatred coming in 5...4....3....2....1!
Dylan   September 17th, 2008 12:02 am ET
Nothing like casting your vote based on a childish vendetta. Obama may just be too good for the level of intellect our country is proving to have. “I feel like he is an elitist", this person says. Meanwhile, she is married to an international banker with businesses all over the globe. What a joke.
agnes   September 17th, 2008 12:01 am ET
There is an old psychological saying: you pinpoint in others what you don't like about yourself.
Mary, ex-PUMA   September 17th, 2008 12:01 am ET
So someone who is am millionaire several times over and married to someone who has been knighted is claiming Obama is an elitist. As such she's endorsing a man who is so wealthy he doesn't know how many houses he owns?
What is wrong with these people? And they claim a cult of personality for Obama? I supported Hillary during the campaign and I was upset with her loss, so much so I was considering McCain. Then I pulled my head from my backside and realized I'd be cutting off my nose to spite my face.
Tony   September 16th, 2008 11:59 pm ET
Pathetic doesn't even scratch the surface... The worse part of this is that this person has some influence...
MBFLA   September 16th, 2008 11:59 pm ET
A guy raised by a single parent and his grandparents at times on foodstamps, who went to school on scholarships and worked as a community organizer VS a guy who is married to a multi-millionaire and cannot remember how many houses he owns. Which one sounds more like an elitist to you? That excuse just does not fly.
Noorah   September 16th, 2008 11:59 pm ET
That's nice... clearly this woman is an idiot and can't see through the lies that McShame and Failin spit out. Whatev, Obama doesn't need her anyways.
who cares about this idiot?
Chris Crew   September 16th, 2008 11:59 pm ET
Wow!! Rothschild is the Elitist!
Rothschild is a super rich old-money family. For her to say she doesn't like someone because they are elitist is like Chris Rock saying he doesn't like black people.
She can't name an issue that she disagrees with Obama on, she just "doesn't like him". Considering Obama and Clinton were together on almost all of the issues, I wonder why she doesn't like him? I'm gonna guess its not because of his elite upbringing...
Obama grew up the hard way, far from an elite childhood. Obama was raised by a single mother and does not come from a family of international bankers like Rothschild and McCain.
Rothschild is such a loser!
Confused   September 16th, 2008 11:59 pm ET
I really can't understand how a person could support Clinton and then turn around and vote for McCain. they stand for completely different things. I voted for Clinton, but when Obama got the nomination he got my full support.
J. Huck   September 16th, 2008 11:59 pm ET
WHO CARES! She just hope Obama will lose coz if he wins, she'll be one of those top 1% that will get taxed up in her...
I say TAX BABY TAX FOR those freeloaders!
Dustin   September 16th, 2008 11:59 pm ET
Well if that isn't the coffee calling the kettle black then I don't know what else is.
Poor Hillary   September 16th, 2008 11:59 pm ET
At least Hillary can see that this phony never believed in her policies or platform and was only behind her because she was a woman. She is an extremely shallow person. She needs to get her elitist rear end to London (where she splits her time) and keep it there. She wouldn't be missed by anyone here.
Chad in Cincinnati   September 16th, 2008 11:58 pm ET
Stupid endorsement by a clueless person... I guess if you're a CEO and don't have to live here, Bush-McCain-Cheney-Palin doesn't seem half bad.
Sammy   September 16th, 2008 11:57 pm ET
Hillary needs to give her a call.
Lily   September 16th, 2008 11:57 pm ET
Yes, you don't like him because he doesn't take money from interest groups which means you won't be number one on his list. And how funny a CEO is calling someone else "elitist".
lou   September 16th, 2008 11:57 pm ET
SurRy   September 16th, 2008 11:56 pm ET
She was a corporate lawyer, telecommunications entrepreneur, became the third Lady Rothschild when she married Sir Rothschild, honeymooned at the Clinton White House, pals around with Tony Blair and his wife, and has been called the "flashiest hostess in London" by Conde Nast. And Barack Obama is the elitist. LOL, LOL, LOL, good one!
Latasha   September 16th, 2008 11:56 pm ET
The pot is calling the kettle black?? When you look in the mirror what do you see? Clearly you missed Clinton's convention speech, unless maybe you thought she wasn't talking to you? I think NOT!!! Too bad that a DNC membership was wasted on an unworthy member. This election is too important to waste on back-sliders.
John McSame   September 16th, 2008 11:56 pm ET
You have got to be kidding me.
This woman is married to somebody who's first name is "Sir", and its Obama who is the elitist.
Yup, Obama is certainly uppity. You put him back in his place in the back of the bus, Lynn.
Reality Check   September 16th, 2008 11:55 pm ET
Hypocrasy "...and every Democrat who does it is an Elitist? Pityful…."
Do the Democrats have any candidates the did in fact 'pull themself up by the bootstraps'? The context of your comments suggests your are trying to defend BHO. His advancement up the economic ladders could be interpreted as gaming the system(s).
LADY Rothschild (and I use that term loosely) can go back to eating her bon bons in between the countries she lives in. go ahead and back mcsame and impalin – they totally deserve somone like you – only in it for themselves!! She does not like him??? is he worse than McCain? She should lose her membership on the DNC. Oppss, she is in the 2% that Obama wants to tax.
So LFdR, you're going to support a candidate that goes against everything Hillary stands for? That you even admit you don't like? Hope it works out for you. Oh and by the way, someone who is CEO of a worldwide corporate and splits her time between London and NYC, should be careful to through the elitist stone.
What has the Republicans done for Lynn Forester de Rothschild to trust? They ran our economy into the ground. They deregulated completely under the bonehead idea that moneymakers will do more good than harm. We see how this stupid idea from Reagan has gotten us now into big trouble. They invaded the wrong country, putting us into extreme debt and loss of America lives. They had an Attorney General that operated not in the American people interests, but in Republican personal interests. They took away our privacy and rights. They tortured people.
McCain is Bush, Palin is Chenney and together they are another four years, except that they will take us into our first economic depression since the 1930s.
Sure Lynn Forester de Rothschild, there is a lot here to trust with Republicans and McCain.
Yipes!
Barack Obama has given clear articulations and presented plans on various issues, which anyone can see online. He has demonstrated his vision and clarity to what we need to run this country, to bring back our world standing, and it is in this presented clarity and intelligence where we can find our trust.
To find the strength in Barack Obama, you have to get outside of yourself and look at the facts.
Lynn Forester de Rothschild, you confuse confidence and intelligence with elitism.
TJ   September 16th, 2008 11:52 pm ET
The guy whose dad left at age 3, raised by a single parent, who got into Columbia, then Harvard Law, then led the law review...is called the elitist?
I call it the American Dream.
Scott Peters   September 16th, 2008 11:52 pm ET
Who cares who this woman supports. I am confused. She cannot trust him BECAUSE he is an elitist?? Ms. Rothschild should read a dictionary- I think under elitist she may find in parenthesis the word (Republican). May be she can hang out in one of McCain many homes. She's an idiot...
Another CEO of a large corporation and one who obviously was only for Hillary because she was a woman and not for her because she agreed with her stance on issues. Another woman who does not believe in women's rights, just that that women should be in power regardless of what they believe. Bet she's a member of PUMA
Brian   September 16th, 2008 11:50 pm ET
Unbelievable, a ROTHSCHILD calling Obama an elitist!!! I just her family's swiss bank credentials and million dollar trust funds make them down to earth.
Ryan   September 16th, 2008 11:50 pm ET
I'm laughing out loud at this foolish woman, more importantly who cares how she feels about the candidates (really newsworthy? i think not). Its obvious shes voting with her vagina and not her brain.
She would rather vote in spite because she didn't get the candidate she wanted, let her. When a rapist impregnates her and Palin forces her to keep the child through its term against her will i'll just be saying "I told you so".
Remy   September 16th, 2008 11:50 pm ET
Clintons made more damage to Obama than McCain!
AJP   September 16th, 2008 11:49 pm ET
She thinks he's elitist? This from Lady CEO de Rothschild. I've heard about her throughout the primaries and honestly why doesn't she just come out and say it: I don't like him because he's black and beat Hillary.
Of course she will use other superficial reasons for not supporting him, but when a Democrat has not turned at this point in the game to the Obama side the reason becomes clear.
Obviously she doesn't care about issues, policies, and so on.
Independent but Leaning   September 16th, 2008 11:49 pm ET
Just a typical female voter angry at Obama even as Obama slams Sarah Palin for not being experienced.........Sounds like Obama does not like women. I just love the way his folks just don't understand women as they try to scare them with the abortion issue. Most women I know don't care about abortion but do care about respect.
I am so sick of the race card. I'm not voting for the guy because he is a skilled waffler, flip flopper or whatever kind of liar you want to describe. Obama is a skilled politician rather than a statesman or a commander-in-chief.
Bee1000   September 16th, 2008 11:45 pm ET
Apparently she was not planning to vote for Hillary based on her policies or her politics since McCain/Palin represent the polar opposite viewpoints. I can only guess that she was supporting Hillary solely on the fact that she is a woman. How very deep of her, to cast your vote based on genitalia.
I would hate to be an employee with a CEO thinking like that - really inspires my performance > to know this person can call someone who has earned his way and elitist and not be laught at. What a shame. Some all hard working American will be uppity and elitist.
She is just a Republican in the Democratic party. I will say this again. If McCain and Obama switched convention speeches McShame would be a sure win because Obama is for America and Americans, he IS NOT FOR JUST THE PEOPLE WITH MONEY..
ESPECIALLLY Hillary? Palin is exploiting the gap left by Hillary and Hillary has been tepid in responding.
Has it escaped anyones attention that if McCain get's the nod in 2008, then Hillary will have another run at it in 2012 (as opposed to 2016 if Obama gets in?)
Mrs. Rothschild, regular Americans do not care if you are supporting John McCain. This election is more important to us than it is to you, because we do not have the untold wealth or access to powerful leaders of industry and politics as you do.
So take your temper tantrums elsewhere, because YOU are the real elitist and just because you can twist arms in your insular world of wealth and privilege does not mean that Americans care at all about your political leanings.
I am laughing as I read.. elitist? I do not care if she is a democrat or republican or liberal; the fact that she called Obama an elitist has racist undertones so evident that she is obliviously out of touch with Democratic ideology. Besides.. WHO is she calling an 'elitist?' she is married to an international banker, she is a CEO, and most likely a millionaire. Barack Obama just finished paying his student loans, and in his book he details how 'for the first 10 years of their marriage, Michelle and Barack's combined student loans were more than their mortgage.'
Hurray for Obama, the NON-elitist, most down to earth respectful man who PENNSYLVANIANS RELATE TO!
Obama/Biden 08!
Mery   September 16th, 2008 11:37 pm ET
It is always about who you can relate to ...... and obviously she relates better to 100 Million dollar McCain family with 9 houses......frankly I am glad she didn't like Obama. Obama's vision for future more relates to people that require public health care and basic economic support.
Carolline   September 16th, 2008 11:37 pm ET
She must be the ones that McCain will give tax credits to. She is looking out for her own pocket. Hence her reason "I do not like him,"
SEE YA..
OBAMA /BIDEN will win this election.
Jason   September 16th, 2008 11:37 pm ET
Obama is an elitist, so she has chosen to go with seven-house, married-up McCain?
sharon   September 16th, 2008 11:37 pm ET
i'm with YOU lynn!
William SF, California   September 16th, 2008 11:36 pm ET
Good! Obby STINKS and people are starting to smell it!
CarolO McBain MI   September 16th, 2008 11:36 pm ET
As a true Hillary supporter, she should have done the one thing Hillary asked of her supporters and that was to vote for Obama. Hillary and Obama had the same thoughts on nearly every issue. Apparently she is looking for a personality contest.
Lori   September 16th, 2008 11:36 pm ET
whose calling who an elitist and what happened to peace, love, understanding and tolerance things she obviously does not want
her mentatlity just makes me and the people who support Obama work even harder to get him elected and get Social Justice
anne   September 16th, 2008 11:35 pm ET
100% Awesome. The woman has major cajones.
Tim   September 16th, 2008 11:35 pm ET
Obama is not an elitist. It is elitist to have the ability to give a candidate 100 thousand dollars. It is elitist to operate an international company which surely pads her pockets well. And she is married to knight? Come on.
Clinton and Obama agree on almost every issue and are quite different than McCain. There is no logical reason for anyone who supported Clinton not to support Obama. In fact recent speeches seem to indicate that Obama is willing to implement Clinton's health care plan, something I'm sure her supporters would appreciate. Rothchild is a Benedict Arnold hiding her true reasons for not supporting Obama.
Tony   September 16th, 2008 11:35 pm ET
"CEO of EL Rothschild, a holding company with businesses around the world. She is married to international banker"
I think this says it all.... money talks... rich greed!
Harerta Tesfa   September 16th, 2008 11:35 pm ET
Frankly, it's a honest move. Her personality and life history are more aligned with McPalin than are with Obama/Biden (poorest senators in congress). She is none other than a gold digger that married a richer man 24 years her senior. and her best friend is Henry Kissinger, a very shrewd Republican of the olden days!
"When 67-year-old British banking scion Sir Evelyn Rothschild first set eyes on 44-year-old Lynn Forester at the 1998 Bilderberg conference—the matchmaker was none other than Henry Kissinger—she was already a woman of major means."
GOOD FOR HER. AT LAST SOME SENSE IN THE DNC
doublestandard   September 16th, 2008 11:34 pm ET
STOP with the Race Cards, it is no longer effective, Obama has abused it.
Obama is the WORST presidential candidate in history. No experience, no major accomplishments, no foreign policy experience, a big NOTHING. Part of Chicago corruption, terrorist friends, pathological liar.
How can you possibly trust this man?
Kudos to Ms Rothschild, for fighting the hype and standing firm as a Patriot.
FIGHT FOR AMERICA. mcCain/Palin 2008
SL   September 16th, 2008 11:34 pm ET
That's rich. A Rothschild calling Obama elitist!
Justin W.   September 16th, 2008 11:34 pm ET
Good for Lynn! I think that the Democrats made a huge mistake and they will see in November. Lynn is just vocalizing in public what many Hillary supporters will do in the voting booths on Nov. 4. CNN actually reported something not pro-Obama...how interesting!!!
go away mongers-Ventura ca   September 16th, 2008 11:34 pm ET
She needs to re-register as a republican and she needs to get a grip on REALITY. McCain-Palin is diametrically opposed to everything Hillary is for.
Ellitist such as this really belong with the likes of Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, George W Bush, and Newt Gingrich.
Enough!!!   September 16th, 2008 11:34 pm ET
Pure Evil.
Uhh, can someone help me? What is an elitist ?????
Right of Center, West Coast.   September 16th, 2008 11:33 pm ET
Clearly Obama does'nt need her,after all,he has Babra and her Hollywood buddies paying $28,500 per seat to her her sing "Happy Days Are Here Again" to Obama. Only Millionaires allowed in to this FFFFunction ,even his wife makes $500,000 per year? Who needs another Millionaire? Do you think Barak will give Poor Old Joe a couple of Bucks to help him pay for his train fare?
cadence   September 16th, 2008 11:33 pm ET
More than likely she is counting upon those tax cuts for the wealthy should McCain be elected! Who cares!!!
Vote Democrat in every race   September 16th, 2008 11:33 pm ET
She doesn't want to pay her taxes. If she can't trust john who lies out both sides of his mouth,then screw her.
Matt   September 16th, 2008 11:33 pm ET
She "feels" things? Where are the FACTS and EVIDENCE to support any position she wants to take? Are we really reduced to reporting what [insert famous person] "feels"? Is that what people should be basing their votes on and what the "news" media should be serving everyone as though it's informational filet mignon?
PD   September 16th, 2008 11:33 pm ET
Sounds like she was a Republican in Democrat clothing all this time. And a rich one, too. Voting for Hillary just because she was a woman. To support Palin, after supporting Hillary, makes absolutely no sense. Two completely different policies and beliefs. Also, why do we care who she's voting for???
Joe   September 16th, 2008 11:33 pm ET
The sky is falling!!!! Next, we thing we know we'll elect a woman president and she'll be a Republican not a Democrat!
Linda K.   September 16th, 2008 11:32 pm ET
Her "elitist" comment is visbly phony. What's more elitist than bein a Rothschild? She's supporting McCain because his policies will make her even richer.
Liz   September 16th, 2008 11:32 pm ET
I love her as much as Sarah but I love Hillary first. Obama lost his campaign when chose Biden over Hillary.
"Forester is the CEO of EL Rothschild, a holding company with businesses around the world. She is married to international banker Sir Evelyn de Rothschild."
Why is this not surprising?
Do we really want this country's deep financial problems to be solved by one of the Keating Five?
roger, colorado   September 16th, 2008 11:31 pm ET
One of the richest women in the world and she dares call Obama an elitist. This woman obviously has serious personal issues. Plus, what is the big deal? The average voter in America has probably never heard of this woman and could not care less what she has to say. Another example of CNN trying to fill the useless final hours of the 24 hr news cycle.
TiffIN   September 16th, 2008 11:31 pm ET
Lynn Forester should stand with McCain as she wasn't a true Democrat anyway. I am so sick of hearing about people who wouldn't know loyalty if it bit them in the but. If she's married to a Rothchild then her middle name is Elitist! As the old saying goes 'it takes one, to know one." The DNC will be better off without her. Maybe the Palin-McCain ticket will give her a job making moose burgers while staring out Palin's kitchen window at Russia.
Obama 08!
Larry   September 16th, 2008 11:30 pm ET
It's so refreshing that a democrat is putting their country first,not their party.
gl   September 16th, 2008 11:30 pm ET
Palin's two rallies out West were tightly controlled events. In Carson City, Nevada, on Saturday, Palin furiously signed autographs longer than she spoke.
This is not a beauty contest. Why is she signing autographs? This woman is in this race for the fame. Her and McShame are so out of touch it aint' funny.
timber (ex dem)   September 16th, 2008 11:29 pm ET
I know the feeling. I cannot trust Obama either and will vote for McCain.
After the corruption Obama and the DNC showed during the primaries anybody with a conscience could not possibly vote for Obama. I know I cannot and will not vote Democrat again until the leadership and gang of four (Pelosi, Dean, Obama, Brazile) have resigned, retired, been jailed, or moved on to other crooked organizations. I want my old democratic party back where the people ran the party not a few corrupt officials. This is exactly why Obama is doing so badly. Oh and by the way, TOLD YOU SO................
Brian in VA   September 16th, 2008 11:29 pm ET
Elitist? I bet Obama can tell you what the price of gas is and what he paid for it that last time he pumped his own gas into his own car. Forester and McCain may not have pumped their own gas or paid a mortgage payment in the last 20 years, but Obama is elitist. Give me a break.
SamSunny   September 16th, 2008 11:28 pm ET
She has made a statement. About herself. She needs to get a real job.
BrianInMKE   September 16th, 2008 11:27 pm ET
She's just really pissed that she can't buy Obama off like she planned to with Billary who love to kowtow to big contributors.
With McCain she will get what she pays for and screw over the rest of U.S. like we have been for the last 8 years.
That's fine, go over to the dark side and further improve the democratic party in the process. Thanks :-)
obama is not the right person to sit in the oval office.Hilliary was just
"de Rothschild"? Calling the only son of a single mother "elitist"? This is rich (too easy...sorry about that). I'm sure McCain is looking forward to her support. They can probably travel together, switching back and forth between their private planes. Of all of the Hillary diehards, this one has been the whiniest, most out of touch. Good riddance and please, please, don't ever call yourself a Democrat again.
Lynn:60 yr old Obama supporter   September 16th, 2008 11:26 pm ET
Why not do a blog about the conservative republicans like David Brookes who are now abandoning McCain? Hillary and Obama don't represent people like "de Rothschild" who will benefit from McCain.
Now, one of the largest woman's groups in the country, endorsed Obama today I'll take them over this whiney woman who like McCain has no idea what middle America is going through.
Spare Me   September 16th, 2008 11:26 pm ET
Pat   September 16th, 2008 11:25 pm ET
You neither like nor trust McCain. Why would you endorse him when you had previously been gung-ho for Clinton.
Placing Palin in the position of being a heartbeat away from the presidency is a direct insult to Clinton....who could still be the first POTUS who is also a woman! Clinton...who actually did the work and paid the dues to get there!
You're focusing on Obama; when you should still be focusing on Clinton! CLINTON IS NOT OUT OF THE GAME UNLESS YOU PUT PALIN BEFORE HER!
me   September 16th, 2008 11:24 pm ET
when some people will realize that if someone does not like Obama it is not necessarily for his color or gender. It is because he is just simply not appealing to that person, and that that person does not like the way he talks, what he says etc. And vice versa. It applies to the others too.
No one in world is entitled to be liked by anyone, or hated by everyone.
There is a freedom of choice here, isn't it? SO why to be outraged if someone dares to not to like the person you like?
AUSTIN,TX   September 16th, 2008 11:24 pm ET
This is not news. Isn't this the same "billionaire" who insisted that Obama should put HRC's debt before his own campaign? She can AFFORD to pick her president based on personality. OR maybe her real issue is that she would get taxed under Obama's new plan and she just doesn't like it!
skm   September 16th, 2008 11:23 pm ET
Lynn Forester de Rothschild donated a LOT of money to DNC, DNCC, DNP candidates and Hillary Clinton. She pushed the unity message to unite as a party and urged Sen.Obama to consider Hillary Clinton for VP.
I am glad to see Ms.Forester de Rothschild uphold DEMOCRACY and endorse John McCain. Thank you Lynn.
As a former Hillary supporter, I held out until the very end. I was mad and angry that Obama did not pick her as his VP, then along came Palin and I knew we had to join together or this country could be in serious trouble. So this woman who claims to not be able to trust Obama is "full of it" if she thinks she can trust McCain and Palin. Good bye and good ridence. I don't think she has any problems filling up her luxury cars or if she's worried about her retirement.
Holger   September 16th, 2008 11:19 pm ET
This is where all these comments don't make any sense and are just a lot of drivel.
Patty,RI   September 16th, 2008 11:18 pm ET
Of course she doesn't like him! He won't be indebted to any of the lobbyist for EL Rothschild when he gets elected. Barack Obama is backed by the people NOT special interest groups,therefore he won't need to pay back any favors to EL Rothschild's when he is deciding on policy. Shame on her for personalizing this election. Let us not forget that there are over 200 million people here and for a long, long time about 98% of them have been struggling with the decisions made by the top 2%. It truly is TIME FOR CHANGE.
Canadian Observer   September 16th, 2008 11:17 pm ET
why is this newsworthy? Are you Americans voting on where the candidates stand on the issues? Or are you voting based on race? Sex? Age? Not voting Obama because he beat Hillary? Whatever the case is, you are scaring the rest of the world.....please....no more Republican policies.....
Tony L.   September 16th, 2008 11:17 pm ET
Go ahead, Lynn, and support McCain–the coward who surrendered to the Viet Cong in defiance of the military code of conduct which specifically states that "I shall never surrender to the enemy." And when you come calling for us Democrats to support Clinton when she runs again, we will support her opposition, just like you're now doing to Obama. You're not a true Democrat. What you're probably telling us is that you can not support an African American for the presidency. You should have the guts to say exactly what you mean. I sure hope that the democrats revoke the position that you're now holding in the party and send you packing to the republicans. Goodbye!!!!!
thomas Rand-Nash   September 16th, 2008 11:16 pm ET
i'm sorry-–what does "elitist" mean again? hillary attended wellesley and then yale law school. barack grew up w/o a father, and a mother who worked 2 jobs while she went to college. and yes, he went to harvard. i think in this case, this woman was a republican in spirit to begin with-and therefore "elitist" is code for racist.
therefore, i say, good riddance, and don't the door hit your "CEO of EL Rothschild, a holding company with businesses around the world. She is married to international banker Sir Evelyn de Rothschild" rich arse on the way out.
"Forester is the CEO of EL Rothschild, a holding company with businesses around the world. She is married to international banker Sir Evelyn de Rothschild. Forester is a member of the DNC’s Democrats Abroad chapter and splits her time living in London and New York."
And he's the elitist? Good God do these nutcases hear themselves? Obama was raised in poverty by a single mother on food stamps. He went to school on scholarships. He CAN and DOES relate to the common guy. This fool as well as McCain have never had to live like that. That they both have called Obama an elitist only shows they really believe Americans are stupid..
Traci Robbinsa   September 16th, 2008 11:16 pm ET
People wake up and smell the coffee. Obama wants a socialist government. He wants the people to pay more taxes so the 10% can continue to sit on there butts and contribute nothing to this country. I do believe the the government should help the elderly, children and people who are having a tought time. I DO NOT agree with MY taxes being spent on Medicaid for people lay around and pop out babies left and right. WE PAY FOR THIS. Obama loves this it is guaranteed votes!!!
When I read this headline, I was like, "What??!!" But then as I read that the vote-flipper is none other than a Rothschild for goodness' sake, I am now back to a relaxed state of Zen.
If we can get every single multi-billionaire who "splits her time between New York and London," or is married to someone with the title "Sir", to get off of our bandwagon, then maybe once we take power we can institute the real reforms our economy and our political system need.
And, as you other guys have written, how incredibly RICH is it that a Rothschild (who I know nothing about but wouldn't be surprised if she was "schooled in Switzerland" or breeds horses or dabbles in art or some such thing) would call ANYONE else an "elitist". I love it.
Oh, and I hope she didn't "just love" that position on the DNC's Platform Committee.....wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Dean et al weren't too pleased with the madam.
David   September 16th, 2008 11:13 pm ET
Joe   September 16th, 2008 11:13 pm ET
That is just wrong. When did this election become about personality? Obama and Hillary have very similar political agenda's, and to endorse a candidate on the complete opposite side of the political spectrum is absolutely idiotic.
I guess it's true that this election, like the last many elections, are never about the issues.
Alicia, Flushing, NY   September 16th, 2008 11:12 pm ET
Best news I heard today. This is a call to the other Hillary supporters.
It's a reminder of how Obama demeaned and debased Hillary in the most sexist of manners. Let's get behind Sarah Palin and show them that we will not put up with sexism and we won't let Obama and the media continue to lie about her.
Is Palin guilty of abuse of power? Why won't she let the troopergate investigation continue?   September 16th, 2008 11:12 pm ET
This woman who claimed she supported Hillary does not really value what Hillary stood for. It is obvious that ms. rothschild only wanted a woman in power, any woman, even a woefully unqualified woman. People like this have their own agendas, they don't truly care about the economy or anything else.
Yea ok. Keep acting like race has nothing to do with it. Either that, or actually take the time to become educated and pay attention to policies. I'm sick and tired of so-called "Hillary supporters" who think that their next best bet is to back McCain/Palin when it's obvious policy has nothing to do with their decision.
Props and kudos, to you, Lynn!
What, no real issues to discuss? So another rich person, afraid of losing her power and status with the true elite, makes a lame attempt to influence the less informed of us. Sorry Lynn but we've been paying attention this time. Thank you for your tax dollars. Great to see you're chipping in.
Steve C   September 16th, 2008 11:10 pm ET
too bad for her that hillary will NEVER be president, as many of her supporters hope obama will lose so hillary can run again.
nevermind what hillary achieved–she still pissed off alot of people with her evil campaign tactics. I for one would never vote for her.
Hillary and her supporters are evil at the core.
GOBAMA.
John   September 16th, 2008 11:10 pm ET
Another candidate who couldnt understand what hillary stood for.Its a shame that just because the other ticket has a women VP (used as a scapegoat for political mileage) you go againt the ideas you supported for such a long time.
Hillary Suporter for unity and Obama.
Let me get this straight... "Lynn Forester de Rothschild," CEO of EL Rothschild, who is married to international banker "Sir Evelyn de Rothschild"...
...is calling Obama elitist?
That's rich.
Sounds like she's voting John "Country Club First" McCain for a reason — they're the elitists!
Brian   September 16th, 2008 11:10 pm ET
You go Lynn!!
I don't see how she can call Obama an elistist .
Sometimes things just do not make sense and this is one of them.
She dislikes him ...fine but there is more here than she is saying...
Hillary and OBama are on the same page politically , so it is either she is racist or sexist or just concerned her millions will be taxed more under Obama and she will pay less with MCcain ...my bet is follow the money!
I'm so sick and tired of the whole 'elitist' tag placed upon the Democrats. Who else thinks an extraordinary person should handle an extraordinary job? I sure as heck think so.
These are extraordinary times and we need extraordinary people to curb them.
These jibes are foolish and the people who are spewing them deserve to be treated foolishly.
I don't like him and I don't trust him either. When Obama goes to the Hollywood rich people, you know the $28,000 a plate dinner tonight. I guess you Obamabots didn't give him enough money. I wonder if he will tell them all about the bitter people clinging to their guns and Bibles he has met on the campaign trail, and laugh at all the little people.
m c   September 16th, 2008 11:07 pm ET
We Independents know that McCain/Palin are the future winners. This whole financial "crisis" was caused by people buying houses they could not afford and run-away credit card debt. The American people will not be fooled into bailing out these losers AND expanding the government to boot!!! Many Hillary Independents are now ready to swing this election to McCain/Palin!!!
Susan from Scotts Valley, CA   September 16th, 2008 11:07 pm ET
This isn't a surprise. She also got mad that the Obama campaign didn't pay for her room at the convention and she and other big Clinton donors left in a huff before Obama's acceptance speech. It was just a matter of time. She obviously isn't an advocate for women or any of the issues Hillary was fighting for because she wouldn't be doing this if she was.
Americans Got Common Sense   September 16th, 2008 11:07 pm ET
“This is a hard decision for me personally because frankly I don't like him,” Wow..then how is it hard for her to declare this in the public?? The heck? The woman voted for Hillary the person and not her policies. What a horrible reason to vote for 4 more years of American downfalls. It bothers me that people vote based on emotions. Stop thinking about yourself and think about our country as a whole. Republicans MESSED IT UP BIG TIME!!!!!! Ain't no way in H E double hockey sticks will I vote for MCSAME. Freakin' biter. Trying to run his campaign like Obama now. Dude please.
Rick K   September 16th, 2008 11:06 pm ET
Did I just read that Lynn Forester de Rothschild thinks Obama is an elitist?
That's good stuff.
Let me translate that: "I can't control him with my money and friends – I think I've got a better chance to get what I want out of the repubs – the only law-breaking, power-abusing, subpoena-ignoring game left in town.
I'm sure she'll help him explain his empathy for those blue collar workers. Funny, funny stuff.
Please be nasty in your proclamation so about 500,000 of us regular folk can get ticked off enough to send Obama more money just to get rid of the influence of people like you.
The Libs are going nuts!   September 16th, 2008 11:06 pm ET
Oh I love to read comments like these. You guys are in meltdown mode because your savior is losing support everywhere.
Perhaps Lynn doesn't want to be part of the Obama campaign when it hits the fan that he took the second most money from Fannie Mae.
jdc   September 16th, 2008 11:05 pm ET
Interesting, Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a titled Lady and someone who was introduced to her second husband by Henry Kissinger at the Blinderberg conference, calling Barack Obama "elite"? That's kind of funny-this is the kind of stuff you just can't make up ;-)
James   September 16th, 2008 11:05 pm ET
Good for you Lynn.
A former Democrat with some actual integrity. She does not put up with the Democrat's fear cards to keep woman in line, like Roe v. Wade (a decision that has not even been threatened to be overturned). She may vote for whom she wants, no reason to support someone you think is unqualified for President.
Hillary 2012
Dan, Maryland   September 16th, 2008 11:05 pm ET
Clearly this woman is not a democrat. If she were she would vote on the issues, and support the issues that Hillary ran on which is nearly identacle to Barack Obama's policies. This leaves just one reason she supported Hillary – she was a woman. I've heard far too many people say "I really liked Hillary, now that she's out I'm voting for McCain because I want to see a woman in the whitehouse before I die." Really? You'd rather see a woman to fulfil your own selfish goals instead of making our country better and not leading it further into debt and potentially into more wars? What could be more selfish than to compromise your views and principles based soley on sex. I would say that is reverse sexism. I'm losing the tremendous respect I had for the feminest movement when I hear things like this.
RJ   September 16th, 2008 11:05 pm ET
Come on over to the right side, Ms. Rothschild. They don't want you. You spoke your mind and now the Democrat/liberals went after you. They don't respect anyone who's views are not like their own. Typical. Jobama is elitist, pure and simple and most of the average voters in the US, especially those between the coasts really know this.
Get used to it Democrats you can't force Obama down everyone's throat and expect to get away with it. Finally the Clinton voters are seeing the light. I expect more to get off the Obama train very soon. That's what you get Democrats when you PUSH someone in a position that NOBODY wanted. I am loving this as a Republican, I'm just sitting back and watching all you democrats ruin your party and I'm loving it!!! I couldn't have asked for anything better this year...
VOTE MCCAIN/PALIN!!!
Just amazed   September 16th, 2008 11:04 pm ET
Can Ms Rothschild or for that matter any of the former Clinton supporters who said that they want to vote for McCain tell me a single policy proposal that McCain has that will solve the problem that our country faces better than that of Obamas.
The United States as we know it is being threatened. Our way of life is based on Democracy and Capitalism and Free Market and these are based on trust and confidence. There is no single physical commodity on any shelf for sell in Wall Street except a bunch of papers that carry all the weight in the world because they are backed by Trust and Confidence.
This Trust is evaporating and this Confidence is fading and going with them will be social security, employment, strong government, strong military, choices and the American way of life. Any person who loves this country would be concerned about this issue when they vote on November unless you are Ms Rothschild who votes because she "don't like him"
Barack Obama does not have all the answers and he will not fix all the problem in four years, but at least he has put forward a well thought out alternative plan than what we have heard in the last eight years. If Ms Rothschild will discuss the superiority of McCains proposals over that of Obama that would have been worthy of a true American. But she is blinded by the fact that she "don't like him".
This election will not be decided by the likes of Ms Rothschild but by the millions of Americans who will look at the issues and look at the solutions proposed by each candidate and vote for the proposals that have the best chance of addressing Americans problems and not vote because "I don't like him".
disappointed in ND   September 16th, 2008 11:04 pm ET
Hillary would be very disappointed in her. I think this only begins to prove the "Elephant in the Closet" theory for Obama that was on CNN earlier today. It is sad to see that someone will put aside their beliefs to vote for because they don't trust them (Does the other side embody what you believe in?). At this point I don't see how you could trust John McCain either. Voting for McCain is not going to solve any of the issues that disgruntled voters are having personally with Obama.
I look forward to the upcoming debates because I think then the campaigns will get back to the issues and hopefully concerns of elitism and mistrust will be resolved. Regardless of who you vote for -you need to be ready to follow ALL of their policies for the next four years and possibly beyond with the upcoming change in the Supreme Court
I think a little digging should be done to see if Mrs de Rothschild has a job waiting for her in a McCain White House.
spiderweb   September 16th, 2008 11:03 pm ET
Obama, an elitist????? This woman is using her emotions and her reasoning is helter-skelter. Hope is the substance of this campaign and with fickleness of people like Lynn Forester de Rothschild, I could never vote for a ticket that is so "white" and so driven to destroy as the McCain/Palin ticket. By the way, I'm a registered Republican so my vote will definitely counter De Rothchild.! Obama/Biden 2008!!!!!
DB   September 16th, 2008 11:03 pm ET
Obviously she is an angry woman....how does someone who is a true Democrat and true supporter of what Hillary Clinton stands for and believes in suddenly become a McCain/Palin supporter? This defies logic. And the fact that she has to be "in your face" about it is unnecessary. Like I said she's an angry woman and now she can go be an angry Republican.
Scott A., Lakeland, FL   September 16th, 2008 11:02 pm ET
John McCain owns 8 houses (or more by now) and she's calling Obama the elitist? How is a man who helped out the poor his entire life an elitist compared to a man who married an heiress and whose only economic plan is to keep giving the rich tax cuts?
I think this lady was a Republican to begin with and I'm surprised the Democrats didn't see through her tactics (although she may have blended in fine with Hillary's conservative staff that she had).
The Democrats definitely don't need someone that moronic and misguided. Good riddens to bad rubbish.
K2   September 16th, 2008 11:02 pm ET
Poor Obama, he got the nod from the Dem's big wigs in exchange for taking stalwart Biden along for the ride. The old guard thought Obama needed a baby sitter and now it has sunk Obama. I guess Dean got what he wanted (to unseat the Clintons as the Dem's power broker) at the expense of the party. That probably warrants another wicked howl from Dean.
LC   September 16th, 2008 11:01 pm ET
How much did they pay her for the endorsement?
Sherry   September 16th, 2008 11:01 pm ET
I find it really amazing that some, who are the wealthiest; whether born into it, married it or got it by questionable means, dare to call Obama an elitist. Maybe this lady just hung on to Hillary Clinton's coattails because she was a woman running for president. If she truly believed in Clinton's message and what she stands for, she wouldn't be backing McCain.
Sarah....and my last name isn't Palin   September 16th, 2008 11:01 pm ET
stephanie   September 16th, 2008 11:01 pm ET
What a shallow person! How any Hillary supporter could vote mCCain-Palin is beyond reason. McCain=Palin have shown their trust? How exactly have they done that? Palin represents women's interests? Give me a break. This hypocrite and closet racist is exactly whats wrong with this country. Shameful.
She's more than likely a closet racist to say that she simply doesn't like him and that he's done nothing to gain her trust. I guess she trusts Bill and Hillary cause she spent the night in the White House! Give me a break...she sounds like the elitist of the highest magnitude. Hey Barack, you can't win them all, cross her off and move on. For every one you lose you gain three!
Obama Inevitable Win   September 16th, 2008 11:00 pm ET
Let's face it, people in power still don't like the black folk.
Lee, Chicago   September 16th, 2008 10:59 pm ET
She's calling him an elitist??? Was this interview on the tarmac before she jetted off to London for some shopping?
The racist should have just called him "uppity" and left it that.
Robwin   September 16th, 2008 10:59 pm ET
Interesting. The story is about a Democrat, a party leader who refuses to support Obama, and the first response here is something having to do with Palin. Awhile later another poster seems to imply the refusal to support Obama may result from racism. All of the rest of the responses reflect a bitterness at this woman's lifestyle that would never have been considered had she remained a loyal Democrat. You Obamaniacs are somewhat of a sorry group, you know that.
Cheryl R   September 16th, 2008 10:59 pm ET
The very name Rothschild is a synonym for pampered, born with a silver spoon in your mouth, snobbish elitism and this woman lives up to her name. What this grand dame of the bitter losers brigade means when she says she doesn't like Obama is that "he's not one of us".
The elitists like Rothschild aren't used to not getting their own way, so when they don't, they make sure someone pays even if it means throwing all the values and political beliefs they claimed to hold out the window.
What is wrong with you people? Everyone owns their own vote. People are still allowed to choose any candidate they wish to in this great republic. How undemocratic attacking a person for choosing differently than you! That's not very progressive. That's not even American!
Citizens of the United States are allowed to cast their vote for anyone, for any reason. You attack and demean someone for picking a different candidate?! Call them names and hurl false accusations? No wonder so many are fleeing the democratic party!
And what's with the Palin remarks? Haven't you heard? McCain is running for POTUS. Palin is only the number 2. How odd. Can't remember the last time the top ticket opposition went after the bottom ticket. Only one explanation...that is what BO and his bots truly identify with.
She's definitely a racist. Racists do not like to see successful African-Americans and they call them elitist or uppity. How can she call Obama an elitist when she is the embodiment of one herself?
OBAMA IS DEFINELY NOT A MAN OF HIS WORD. HE WAS THE FIRST LIAR IN THIS CAMPAIGN BY SAY HE WOULD TAKE PUBLIC FINANCING BUT WHY WOULD ANYBODY BE DUMB ENOUGH TO BELIEVE OBAMA. WITH FREINDS LIKE REZKO, WRIGHT, FARRAKHAN, PFLUGGER, AYERS, YOU WOULD HAVE TO BE A DEMOCRAT TO BELIEVE A WORD HE SAYS.
banderson   September 16th, 2008 10:57 pm ET
This is what is amazing about this individual. She is a former Clinton backer but because she doesn't like Obama she is voting for McCain. This makes absolutely no sense. I think this person is either racist or hoping McCain wins so Clinton can run again in 2012, either way it's pathetic and sad.
Lawrence Usher   September 16th, 2008 10:56 pm ET
A de Rothchild is calling someone who grew up in a poor single parent family, who scratched and clawed his way into and through Harvard, then worked as a teacher and public servant an elitist?
You sure that it is not because he wants to increase YOUR (that's right the over 250k a year) taxes?
Am I the only one who thinks that this person should cut down on the martoonies at lunch, or has 45% of the entire country gone mad?
Davonne of Atlanta   September 16th, 2008 10:56 pm ET
Who cares?....and she don't like him and can't trust him?...that's just a cover for "i don't like him cause he's black"....if these people are big enough to say such things they should just state what they really feel. Hillary & Obama policies are virtually the same, anybody who was for hillary should automatically vote for obama.....any other reason for not voting for obama is because he's black...
McCain and hillarys policies are completely different, so for a hillary supporter to vote for McCain, this person clearly has racial issues to deal with...oh well he doesn't need her anyway...
Tom, Houston   September 16th, 2008 10:56 pm ET
Confused   September 16th, 2008 10:55 pm ET
Now that I think of it, I can probably answer my own question. Lynn Forester de Rothschild is probably in the 'over the $250,000 bracket'....Obama wants to raise her taxes.....so she is not in this for "Country First" ....she is in it for 'self' and obviously doesn't care about the average, middle-income majority of hard working American people who carry the country and are always hit the hardest. I doubt CNN will post my 2 comments, they don't usually.
Ronda   September 16th, 2008 10:55 pm ET
People who think and have IQs over 100 vote policies and issues. Others vote for the candidate they would "like to have a beer with."
And then we wonder why our economy, health insurance, etc...are a disaster. I'm very disappointed.
And shame on me because I immediately think "what did the McCain camp promise her?" because I can't believe that anyone who supported Hilary would actually support McCain.
It's so over for the Democrat party. Looking forward to the McCain win as the Democrats overreached and nominated a weak novice who never stood up to his party or any special interest. Perhaps the media will now mention Obama was took the most Fannia and Freddie money of any in the Senate except Chris Dodd and Barney Frank. Hillary wins this election, obviously.
Hypocrasy?   September 16th, 2008 10:55 pm ET
Obama himself is a walking hypocracy? He is a perfect example of the fact that this country has opportunities abound. an example of the fact that anyone from any family upbringing with very little can accomplish geat things. He often makes the case that only in America is his story possible. The fact that he attempts to convince us all that this country is on the wrong path and needs to change is the hypocracy. He is basically saying that without his socialist policies this country will not have the opportunities that he himself is proof that already exist.
There is a name appropriate for the likes of Lynn Forester de Rothschild – it's Quisling. For her to endorse Senator McCain, particularly after he picked a singularly unqualified running mate in Sarah Palin, is difficult to understand. The women and men who protested in Anchorage last week understand what's at stake in this election – we cannot afford four more years of the Original Amateur Hour. We need some inspired leadership that can harness the hopes of the American people, not scare them into foolish endeavors overseas and illegal and unconstitutional measures at home. We need to elect Senator Obama on November 4th.
Leslie from Garden Grove, CA   September 16th, 2008 10:54 pm ET
Look Byond   September 16th, 2008 10:52 pm ET
I think the word here is not "like". I think she "HATES" Obama.
If this is a choice for her to defect to the other party so be it.
But I think it is very disgraceful to see such a prominent figure to go down this low as to harbor grude and resentment just because her candidate of choice was not choosen as the democratic nominee.
I would have thought with such an interlectual background, married to a prominent banker, that her mental capacity thought process should have been more positive than outflat negative.
I think, in my own opinion, that she is a disgrace to her own concience and further more I think she is the biggest english snob in modern day history.
To my own opinion I question, her intergrity and respect for the democratic party.
Funny that Lynn Forester de Rothschild – of the infamous banking and finance Rothschild's worth hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars – is calling someone else an elitist.
LEH   September 16th, 2008 10:52 pm ET
I understand this Hillary supporter. My issue with Senator Obama is multi-fold.
Obama does not appear to have the RECORD of fighting for anything major in his life. Has he ever followed-through with anything that really represents CHANGE? Or anything that could EFFECT change? He has co-sponsored many legislations in the Senate, but no major challenges where he has stood against his party, or stood by his belief where something was clearly at stake. Has he lost on any specific issue (ex. Hillary with healthcare, McCain on immigration) and still followed-through?
He didn't even stand up to Rev. Wright, Pfleger and Ayers. How difficult is it to just politely come up to these people and say, that for the record, he disagrees with them? At a time when it really mattered?
Comment   September 16th, 2008 10:52 pm ET
CNN, I can tell by your tone tonight that your leaning McCain now. McCain making the comment "that the economy is fundamentally sound" was a tried and true comment; I find it very ironic that you would make it out like Obama misrepresented that statement, Your horns are starting to show.
By the way, I'm not one of those dumb down Americans, I recongnize games when I see it.
She is a bitter Hillary supporter, who thinks if McCain wins this year, she can put Hillary in 2012, but if this happens, don't you think the Obama supporters will do the same thing to Hillary in 2012. I'm an Alaskan Republican and I'm VOTING FOR OBAMA/BIDEN!
This country is melting down do to 30 years of Free Range Pro- Corporation CEO policies that MOST of the Republican Party edorses. It sickens me what's happened to the GOP. Look, here in Alaska the GOP is in such a mess with longtime men like Young and Stevens who did good things for the State started doing more things just for themselves. Same thing with McCain. He worked side by side with Stevens for 26 years. He was involved in the Keating Five banking scandal and was joined at the hip with Bush the last 8 years on everything. And to make it worse McCain has voted AGAINST our soldiers everytime Veterans medical benefits came up. Alaskans were so disgusted with this we voted in Palin who ran as a reformer but instead is proving herself to be sweet talking power crazed harpy. She's turning out to me more of the same. A corrupted politico bent on enriching herself.
So, I'm voting OBAMA. I've read the his record and he's been RIGHT about everything so far. We need fresh blood and a Constitional scholar who is a self made man. He put himself through school and has dedicated himself to helping folks. That's the kind of self made man with the Pioneering Alaskan spirit Alaskans like.
How and whose gonna pay for this war in Iraq? 10,000,000,000.00 a month that McCain fully supported. The republicans have spent spent spent. Wallstreet is being bailed out in the tune of billions. Everyone is worse off now than 8 years ago. McCain wants to privatize social security despite this mess with the market.
McCain says that "greed" lead to the wallstreet crisis, coming from a man who doesn't know how many homes he has, greed indeed.
This coming from someone who's married to a "SIR" which means they are officially knighted by the Queen of England. Who's an elitist? Just admit it lady, its because he's black, and you think black people just can't simply run a country. That's what lots of ignorant people think these days. I haven't seen the statistics regarding those who refer to Obama as "elitist," but my suspicion is that they are 99% white. Anytime someone says he is elitist, I just substitute the word "black." Calling Obama elitist is just another way that America sweeps its deep-seated rascism under the carpet. I myself am a white male and I am appalled at the unacknowledged racism that is present in this presidential race. Why isn't McCain who doesn't know how many houses he has and whose father was the only reason he got into Annapolils referred to as "elitist"? Maybe because he's a white male?
Why the heck did she support Hillary? Obviously not for her policies, because Hillary's policies are much more similar to Obama than to McCain.
I love how people put likeableness over country. So much for "country first".
Sarah   September 16th, 2008 10:39 pm ET
Rothschild, This is CHILDISH.
See the issues. I am also a Hillary supporter but I see the issues. Palin is completely opposite to Hillary and my views.
Confused   September 16th, 2008 10:38 pm ET
How can a prominent DNC Committee member, who said she was a backer of Hillary's, turn around and do this? It makes no sense.....to campaign and raise money for Hillary and then back someone who is against everything Hillary stood for is stupid and juvenile.
Yes, we may not like the fact that Hillary didn't win the nomination, but why would you abandon your supposed beliefs, unless you were truly only in it for gender, not issues?
Hillary can still do far more good with a democrat in the White House, and that can also only help her to add to her already over-the-top credentials in the future. If you go to McCain, you only give that opportunity for experience to Ms Palin, who doesn't deserve to be President before Hillary!!!
Hillary asked her supporters to support Obama because she knew that he still holds many of the same values as she did..... those values that are not part of the Republican agenda. How sad that these people still think this way....it is obvious she was never a loyal Hillary supporter, and Hillary must be ashamed to think Lynn ever implied that she was.
Sandy   September 16th, 2008 10:38 pm ET
We know what She's really thinking...with a move like that We all know She was never in it for the Democrats ,but for a friendship that She (had) with Hillary.
Andy   September 16th, 2008 10:38 pm ET
I'm tired of all these votes for the "person" and not for the actual "policies". Obama and Clinton have nearly identical voting records, yet she is going to vote for McCain just because she doesn't LIKE Obama. If he votes along with Clinton 95% of the time, shouldn't she not trust Hillary either. Or, wouldn't that give you reason to trust him. As for an elitist, I think the President of the United States should be an elitist. Do we really want "just another guy" (look at Bush) as President? An elitist, by definition, is the near epitome of a President. I hope that Obama has strived to be President his entire life. What is so wrong with achieving a goal? Isn't that what America is built on; you can be anything you want, right? Maybe not. Not unless, you're too much of this, or too much of that. Then people won't like YOU, but not your POLICIES. Grow up, America.
DREADY1RASTA   September 16th, 2008 10:37 pm ET
Worried you won't be able to ride on the backs of the "little people" any longer? Having them flip the bill while yor pathetic elitist arse gets a free ride. McShame will protect your and your kinds precious millions from mean ol' Uncle Sam. Pathetic.
Mike   September 16th, 2008 10:37 pm ET
And I should care why a CEO of EL Rothschild, a holding company with businesses around the world, who has millions if not billions of dollars of personal wealth supports the candidate who will guarantee her continued disproportionate wealth?
Please, make me care when I repo her car, or evict her from her home, or sue her for medical expenses.
Tricia   September 16th, 2008 10:37 pm ET
Lady de Rothschild should return to England where she has many houses too.
A Fed Up Democrat   September 16th, 2008 10:37 pm ET
Sound llike race is playing a issue Yes I said it. The only reason you can give is I don't like him. This man has done nothing to you, And why does she even matter how many people alone on comment pages have said they were going to vote for Mccain, I don't see a political ticker on them. Because The DNC didn't pick Hillary? Is she really somebody important. Are we suppose to get nervous because OOOOOOOOOOOWWWWW this lady is backing Mccain SO WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!. She can take her millions and help those who have struggled and are struggling to pay rent, house payments, day care, car notes credit card payments, Help them and maybe your opinion will matter.
ER P   September 16th, 2008 10:36 pm ET
Good riddance to this elitist aristocrat. Obama and American democracy don't need part-time Americans, full-time aristcrotas like this lady who has no idea how real Americans live and work to earn a living.
teachearth   September 16th, 2008 10:36 pm ET
Good riddance. Looks like there's a new position opening up at the DNC.
This woman was and is obviously NOT a Democrat.
This woman has obviously been fooling herself.
Greg, San Francisco, CA   September 16th, 2008 10:36 pm ET
Madame Lynn Forester de Rothschild is calling Obama an Elitist? Are you freakin' kidding me?
Janice Il   September 16th, 2008 10:36 pm ET
She is a woman, who wanted a woman to be president of the US. A woman who KNOWS that we are more than capable. She did not appreciate how Hillary was treated and she is not the only one, all of her supporters would love to know the "rest" of the story.
Will, NJ   September 16th, 2008 10:36 pm ET
Gender before country.
Both sides Spin everything   September 16th, 2008 10:36 pm ET
So is it ok to vote for him cause of his racial heritage? If people are going to accuse people of voting against him cause of that why is the other way ok. If you say its about issues then you are knee deep and prob have a one dimensional thought process. That process is whatever the DNC says is true.
McPalin '08   September 16th, 2008 10:35 pm ET
Yes, one more elitist to join us! We need this brotherhood/sisterhood of elitists to grow.
clark   September 16th, 2008 10:35 pm ET
Oh Sarah and Hillary...!!!
These two WOMEN have coincided on the most important issue...!!! The most crucial issue that our country is facing right now...!
Hillary has said that Obama is NOT ready to be president, and, so far, Hillary has NOT flip-flopped about it.
Sara has brilliantly illustrated for us Hillary remark about Obama...!!!
So COUNTRY FIRST...!
leah b j   September 16th, 2008 10:35 pm ET
Why is CNN even giving this woman this much space? She is an elitest herself and she is simply angry because Obama has not given her enough attention. She doesn't like him? But she likes McCain and Palin? She isn't a Democrat and Hilary would be disgusted with her...Supporting an anti feminist backwards Palin.
welches, oregon   September 16th, 2008 10:35 pm ET
I don't know why you don't tell the truth CNN!!!
Regarding your A360 "factcheck" secgemt, McCain certainly DID say "I don't mind if we're in Iraq 50, 100 years.". I heard it with my own ears and so did much of America. It was only "later" that McCain defined what he meant, much like he's trying to tell us what his definition of "fundamentals of the economy."
Give me a break CNN. Now I'm pizzzed at YOU. What ? you trying to keep the fires stoked to mainain ratings? miserable.
Wow she wants the McCain ticket. Watch out Palin your days are starting to get short,
Shannon WA.ST. Hillary Supporter   September 16th, 2008 10:33 pm ET
I guess she was in it for Hillary, sorry to be so blunt. But, if you look at what Mcain stands for and then Obama. I guess shes in it for herself and not the 18 million americans that liked Hillarys policys... Its a shame...
On a lighter note she may be supporting another losing ticket. That would be ironic...
Memnoch   September 16th, 2008 10:33 pm ET
it's because there is nothing in it for her anymore. she was probably expecting some "gratitude" from Hillary like Carly Fiorina is from McCain. However, that probably wasn't going to happen with Barack, so she figures she might get her 12 pieces of silver by switching sides. And yes, she is painting him as an "other."
Cindy   September 16th, 2008 10:33 pm ET
Wow... so personal. Hard to imagine why someone of her stature would call a guy like Obama, an elitist.
Oh well, it's her perogative... and life goes on...
Guwapo77   September 16th, 2008 10:33 pm ET
Because he is an elitest? No reason to trust him? While the McCain/Palin ticket can't even tell the truth about a bridge? So you trust even more? It is pretty obvious the issues aren't the cause of your decision making process.
Michael   September 16th, 2008 10:33 pm ET
You have got to be kidding. This lady is calling Obama an elitist and she is married to an International Banker, and has a house in London and New York. We are supposed to believe she is down and out, doesn't have a dime to her name. Please, this lady is a CEO of The Estee Lauder Companies, before that she was the President and CEO of FirstMark Holdings, Inc which owned and managed various telecommunications companies. She was Executive Vice President for Developement at Metromedia Telecommunications.
Please tell me who is the elitist here, please tell me who's the hypocrit here. Give me a break, this lady is an idiot, she is going for McCain because he will protect her fortunes, nothing more, nothing less. I do not believe this has anything to do with Obama, it is all about money. It is clear she didn't back Clinton on the issues, it has turned from supporting a friend for President to about her millions.
If she wants to insult Hillary Clinton like that then that is her problem, she is the one who has to answer to Hillary Clinton and I hope she gets her rich behind handed to her by Clinton.
Alex   September 16th, 2008 10:33 pm ET
Endorse? Who is this person? Who cares...
Yep - She's a bust   September 16th, 2008 10:32 pm ET
Someone named Lynn Forester de Rothschild married to someone called Sir Evelyn de Rothschild has the nerve to call Barack Obama a elitist. What world do these people in. Sorry lady, us mere mortals with 9 to 6s don't buy it. Try a new line. You just us why you HATE Obama not why you like McCain. Is it becuase Obama couldn't be bought off with your money or is it becuase he's a Black Guy made good. I don't need a degree from Idaho to see this is a crock.
natashaintally   September 16th, 2008 10:32 pm ET
Brad IL.   September 16th, 2008 10:32 pm ET
Nice call Lynn , I don't like him either. There is alot more of Hillary supporters feeling the same way. John and Sarah also get our vote. Thanks for the support and the Money
Cotta   September 16th, 2008 10:32 pm ET
"I don't like him" ?!?! Is this how we nominate the most powerful person in the free world? This is merely a disgruntled woman who doesn't believe in anything. She is a fool to think that by casting her vote for McPalin that she is going to 'stick it to Barack' and those disrespectful Democrats. What a tool. Her and Palin don't really care about women's rights. It is utterly disgraceful to push aside your beliefs and values to get back at-what, nothing? Please go.
marisol123@earthlink.net   September 16th, 2008 10:32 pm ET
What a surpise! Your personal "feelings" are more important than facts. The economy is tanking and your candidate (McCain) has no intention of helping because he thinks everything is fine. Shame on you. How can you sleep at night? Oops, I forgot. You have no conscience, just a biased, vindictive agenda.
Claire Zulkey   September 16th, 2008 10:32 pm ET
She thinks Obama's an elitist so she'll back the guy with nine thousand homes.
Women!
wm   September 16th, 2008 10:31 pm ET
I guess an X chromosome is more important to Lynn than the policies and direction of the country, or the competence of its leadership. Most supporters of Hillary, myself included, realize that it makes no sense to cut one's nose off to spite one's face. A vote for McCain/Palin is just that. A vote for Obama/Biden is the best way to move in the direction that Hillary would have taken us had she been the nominee.
blind   September 16th, 2008 10:31 pm ET
back-stabbah.
Slash   September 16th, 2008 10:31 pm ET
TyWebb   September 16th, 2008 10:31 pm ET
"I don't like him." – good answer! Idiot.
S. Holt   September 16th, 2008 10:31 pm ET
Let her take her big money and vote for the McPalin ticket. Obviously, she was never a Hillary supporter. You don't have to wory about the economy, she jst have to shift her money around- over here, over there. We are just living from paycheck to paycheck, most don't even have a paycheck.
plb   September 16th, 2008 10:31 pm ET
she is part of that top 1% that will have to finally start paying taxes. my concern is that she had access to the whole platform document...I wonder how mcpalin is paying her to provide them with a copy..they seem to be stealing all of obama stump lines.
Fort Collins,Colorado   September 16th, 2008 10:31 pm ET
Can you imagine how her taxes are going to raise, if Obama gets elected? With McCain the rich get richer.....
Carolyn   September 16th, 2008 10:31 pm ET
Who need her any way....Not a true Democratic anyway....
Patty, Big Bear, CA   September 16th, 2008 10:30 pm ET
Don't know her, never heard of her, have no respect for her...the people I know who say they will vote for McCain all have the same reason, "If Obama is elected my taxes will go up"....these people are all making over $250k annually and are looking out for themselves only.....neither these people or McCain have any interest in "putting America first"....
Amanda/PA   September 16th, 2008 10:30 pm ET
Was there any reason listed on why she didnt like him? Did she give examples of polices she dosent agree with? This is typical pattern that I see emerging. Im waiting for someone to be HONEST and have the nerve to say why they really dont like him. If its the color of his skin, then you should be "man" or "woman' enough to say it...lets not sugar coat this....
Darlene D   September 16th, 2008 10:30 pm ET
Never heard of her...who cares???
Lisa   September 16th, 2008 10:30 pm ET
She must do what she feels is best for her...but...she obviously cared little to nothing for Hillary Clinton's policies. You also have to wonder at her real reason for just not liking Obama. I'm sure if he had done something to her, she would mention it. So, I have to question her reasons because he definitely is not elitist. I dare say she is more elite than he ever thought of been...plus she is endorsing a candidate who is definitely elite. I mean, who on earth has so many houses they can't count them? Not even most celebrities can relate to him in that respect.
Although, i do get the thing about not liking someone. I despise Sarah Palin but it has everything to do with her policies. So, at least I have a reason.
I think that she, like many others, are sore losers...and never have got over the fact that Obama beat Hillary...nor will they ever. Its really kind of sad if you think about it.
Hypocrasy Rules   September 16th, 2008 10:29 pm ET
What is there to not trust? I'm sure she has no problems with people who say "it depends on what the meaning of is, is?" Another Phonycrat who was into the cult of personality. What is there about McCain that is so trustworthy? How come any Republican who comes from a modest background and pulls themselves up by the bootstraps is an example of the greatness of this country and every Democrat who does it is an Elitist? Pityful....
Sage   September 16th, 2008 10:29 pm ET
how funny is it for a "lady" who splits her living time between 2 continents calling a man whose mother raised him on food stamps, just payed off his student loans 4 years ago, worked as a community organizer for 10 thousand a year instead of taking is hard earned Harvard education to Wall st., an....elitist? i think this woman should give up her American citizenship and stay in London...she truly can not be taken seriously, i can see poor Hill now shaking her head saying "it's because of having people like Lynn Forester de Rothschild in my camp that things worked out the way they did."...elitist, thats so funny....
vote4Obama   September 16th, 2008 10:29 pm ET
Obama will win this without EL Rothchild.... She doesn't even know what an elitest is....
The Conservative   September 16th, 2008 10:29 pm ET
As a progressive american woman, here's what I'd tell the wife of Sir Evelyn Rothschild:
"Are an american? If it's black men you do not like, then I would tell you that this one is not completely black. His mother was white just like you. Are you a mother? Do you support women's rights and dignity? If you do, then you are a bigot who does not belong in this civilized day and age. Your likes should be in nursing homes waiting for pollsters to call.
Obama is a handsome and patritic America."
Thed Weller   September 16th, 2008 10:29 pm ET
Candice   September 16th, 2008 10:28 pm ET
I respect her decision not to like him becasue it's her given right but to call him an Elitist is low and uncalled for! Now is the time to put our personal dislikes against a person aside and look at the bigger picture. Can he usher us forward into a new era? The signs of a struggling economy is all around us. At the rate we're going we can't survive another year of this. I'm actually HAPPY she's letting the nation know she's not supporting Barack becasue we don't need people like her undermining our efforts. But don't worry becasue the nano-second she left 2 or more supporters have joined Barack and will TRULY support him through out the election.
"This is a hard decision for me personally because frankly I don't like him,” she said of Obama in an interview with CNN’s Joe Johns. “I feel like he is an elitist. I feel like he has not given me reason to trust him.”
What exactly has McCain done to gain your trust? Spread lies and rumors for the past week?
Joe from Georgia   September 16th, 2008 10:28 pm ET
I love it when people who "split their time between London and New York" call other people elitists. You have got to be kidding me.
Facts are facts   September 16th, 2008 10:28 pm ET
There are two kinds of people. People who believe in what they say they believe in, and people who are bitter and hold personal vendettas. The latter kind are the ones that ultimately vote the wrong leadership into office with disastrous results. All this proves is that Rothschild could care less what happens to this country, she just wants to see people she "doesn't like" fail.
Patty   September 16th, 2008 10:28 pm ET
She might as well stay on the Republican side, because she WILL NOT be welcomed back. What a misinformed person. It'd be one thing to sit quietly and brood over Obama's nomination, but to publicly endorse the opposing candidate is asinine at best. It's obvious that she's selfishly trying to keep her millions- what an elitist!
Please post CNN
Because Bam has an education he is elitist – if he earned his degree like Palin it would be there goes another black man who takes years and years and cannot even earn a straight college degree. Vote Obama.
Obama Mama in Atlanta   September 16th, 2008 10:27 pm ET
And the definition of an elitist is? The foundation for not voting for someone is based upon policy or personal opinion? Is this justification to place someone on CNN, who cares about her personal opinion about Obama. The stock market is falling by 240 points and she wants to announce on national tv that she's going to cast her 1 vote for McConfused. Please spare me and inform us CNN on how America is going to get out of this financial mess!
Ex-republican   September 16th, 2008 10:26 pm ET
Hmmm... when your married to an international banker named Sir Evelyn de Rothschild and split time living in New York and London, calling someone like Obama an elitist takes either pure stupidity or lack of reality.
Alyx -- Pittsburgh   September 16th, 2008 10:26 pm ET
Can we say "elitist"?
YES WE CAN!
Devin   September 16th, 2008 10:25 pm ET
You need to stop calling yourself a Democrat, and you need to formally leave the party. Why exactly did you support Clinton in the first place? Clinton and Obama have far more in common with regards to policy than Clinton and McCain. I do not know what your motivations are and what issues are most important to you... but if you were actually paying attention to the messages being delivered by the three major candidates over the past six months, then you would see that a vote for John McCain is the antithesis of a vote for Hillary Clinton. You need to get past your anger towards Obama. He was Hillary's opponent in the primaries... but they're over now. Obama will work to achieve the goals Hillary championed... McCain will not.
Eddy   September 16th, 2008 10:25 pm ET
Yeah, Obama an elitist. He really brought himself up. Worked hard, and didn't marry into money. This lady, as well as John McCain married into money. Now, they would like to label Obama as an Elitist. So, the Moose killing disfuntional Vice Presidential candidate, is one step closer to the Whitehouse. Wow, we deserve the goverment we have.
Patty   September 16th, 2008 10:25 pm ET
She just doesn't like that he's black. There's nothing to dislike about Barack Obama. He's charming, intelligent, eloquent, gracious, and down to earth. If you don't like those qualities in a MAN, you've got some hidden hatred for something else. Again, how is he an elitist? He grew up on food stamps! McCain doesn't know how many homes he owns. I wonder how much this endorsement costs McCain.
There's too much at stake in this election and Hillary and Obama are more alike then Hillary and McCain, especially on a womans right to choose, healthcare, immigration and taxes...This woman needs to get over the fact that Hillary lost, I did. As in the words of Hillary Clinton, "No way, no how, no McCain, no Palin." If Ms. Forester de Rothschild was a true Clinton supporter and democrat, she'd be voting for Barack Obama. This country cannot survive four more years of the same failed policies.
And the "rats" start abandoning the sinking Obama ship. They'll be more jumping ship in the near future. Once there were so called solid blue states that are now turning red and Republicans are beginning to make inroads in the congressional election polls. Ain't life grand Dems?
I`m pretty sure anyone who can donate over $100,000 to a campaign doesn`t really care about the issues that regular people do. Considering she is one of the high income taxpayers who would be hit hardest under Obama`s tax plan (as opposed to being favoured under McCain`s) is anyone really shocked at this news. She calls Obama an elitist but it sounds like she is one to me......
Elly   September 16th, 2008 10:24 pm ET
Obama an elitist ....What a hypocrit!!!
you have your wires crossed woman
McSame is the one who is a *multi Millionaire*!!!
Obama is worth maybe 2 million
Obama has *one* home
McCain has 7 homes
Now tell me again who is the elitist!!!!
No one will miss your endorsement anyway lady!!
you go with the two liars McCain and Palin your welcome to them!!!
Garrett   September 16th, 2008 10:24 pm ET
Who cares???????? I'm voting OBAMA and YOU should too!!!!!!!! Don't drink the cool-aide folks... see through the lies!
Dick/NH   September 16th, 2008 10:23 pm ET
Traitor!!!
John Silver   September 16th, 2008 10:23 pm ET
Thank God. With a name and history like that, the elitist tag would stick to whomever she supports. No surprise she supports McCain and the Republicans.
Charles in Cincinnati   September 16th, 2008 10:23 pm ET
A ridiculously wealthy woman named Rothschild is deriding a mixed-race son of a single mom who put himself through college on grants and loans "elitiest?"
Pot, may I introduce you to kettle?
mike   September 16th, 2008 10:23 pm ET
spilts time in between new York and London and he is an elitest? Looks like she wants to take advantage of McCain's tax cuts for the rich. What a vindictive person.
Hater   September 16th, 2008 10:23 pm ET
Well, now we know why she's backing McCain. She doesn't want all that money she's making to be taxed... Stay in London you sellout!!!
Muckinello   September 16th, 2008 10:23 pm ET
With a name like Rotschild and she accuses Obama of elitism? You got to be kidding me..
Denver   September 16th, 2008 10:23 pm ET
Where is Hillary in all of this? I know she is disappointed, but c'mon! She needs to get her head back in the game, take back the 18 million cracks in the ceiling that Palin continues to steal from her, and stop people like this from backing McSame. Any Dem who would vote for McLame is rediculous, because no matter how much you dislike Obama, his views are sooooo much more closer to Clinton's than McBush/Lipstick. It's not about Obama... it's about taking our country back from the neocon rightwing fundamentalist fanatics that have trashed every good aspect of our country.
Linn   September 16th, 2008 10:23 pm ET
Wait. Billionaires Sir Evelyn de Rothschild and Lynn Forester de Rothschild .... call Obama an elitist? LOL!! Why, cuz he wouldn't grovel at their feet even though they're filthy rich? Glad they're backing McCain. Talk about an endorsement backfiring.
Open   September 16th, 2008 10:22 pm ET
Married to someone named Sir Evelyn de Rothschild? And Obama is the elitist?
Uh, hugh, okay!
WHATEVER!
Geoffrey Sperl   September 16th, 2008 10:22 pm ET
Then Lynn Forester de Rothschild is not a supporter of Hillary Clinton. Period. No true supporter of Hillary Clinton would support McCain or Palin as they are diametrically opposed to what Hilary Clinton stands for.
A Clinton supporter voting for McCain would truly have to be blind to the realities out there. How many more have to die in Iraq? How about that none other than Pat Buchanan believes that, if McCain wins, we will find ourselves at war with Iran in McCain's first term? How many more civil liberties do we need to lose in the name of "homeland security"? How many Supreme Court justices do we want McCain to appoint?
The answer for me, to all of those questions, is "zero."
John McCain's first presidential-level decision was to choose Sarah Palin as his running mate and that shows his true colors. If Roe V. Wade is overturned due to McCain appointees, or their children go off to fight another war in Iran, or they find themselves on a no-fly list, I don't want to hear any of them whine about it. Any Clinton supporter who cannot see that he is not placing country first but John McCain first deserves the company they keep.
Obama '08
OIF VET   September 16th, 2008 10:22 pm ET
If I had your money, I would be running to the GOP too. Most of the fat cats on Wall Street seem to shaking in thier shoes with the idea that this want be your rich daddys DNC anymore. Which by now most of them belong to the GOP anyway. We don't need your money anyway, I just have another $10 to Obama and I hope the other 2.5 million people like me will join.
Audrey   September 16th, 2008 10:22 pm ET
How can you possible label Obama an elitist, coming from a person who lives in two countries. I guess you don't trust him since your the type of people he thinks should pay more taxes. You should be ashame of yourself.
Hopeful   September 16th, 2008 10:22 pm ET
Sounds like SHE is the elitist....and not Sir Obama!
sam23   September 16th, 2008 10:22 pm ET
As a McCain supporter, I'm all for new people coming in and supporting the campaign. But
