Biden: McCain fell off his horse

Sen. Biden talked about the economy while campaigning in Ohio Wednesday.

Sen. Biden talked about the economy while campaigning in Ohio Wednesday.

MAUMEE, Ohio (CNN) – Joe Biden hammered John McCain on the economy at his first stop Wednesday in this battleground state, criticizing the Arizona senator for only now coming around to the idea of regulation needed to avert financial crises.

“All of a sudden it’s my goodness there’s greed on Wall Street, my goodness we need common sense regulation,” Biden said.

With polls showing Barack Obama has lost his lead in Ohio, Biden is embarking on a two-day bus tour of the state.

The Delaware senator told supporters at an outdoor rally that they have a choice between those who allow corporations and the wealthy to go "unfettered” and those who want “common sense rules” to protect transparency.

“Look, if John cares so much about this now, where was he a week ago?” Biden asked. “Where was he a month ago? Where was he 5 years ago? I’ll tell you where he was, he was bragging to the folks on Wall Street, to the executives who now he calls ‘greedy.’ He was bragging to them how we’re going to shred the regulation that fetters them, that ties them down.”

“So let’s take a look at John’s conversion here,” Biden later added, “Something happened on the road to Damascus, John fell off his horse but he got back up on the same horse.”

He went on to draw parallels with McCain’s health care plan, saying that there too McCain favors de-regulation that wouldn’t allow states to protect its residents from insurance companies.

“So John, you got back on the same horse, you continue to push a plan that’s designed to de-regulate the health insurance industry,” said Biden, asking the crowd to raise their hands if they trust insurance companies to take care of their needs.

“I got one person [who] raised their hand. I got also a bridge I got to sell you and guess what? It’s in Alaska and it goes to nowhere,” he said, echoing a line Obama has been using on the stump as well.

I can't believe there isn't more said about McCain's support of deregulation of health insurance and privatizing Medicare as Biden touched on here. This is a pet project for repubs and, as a health care administrator for 16 years, I know for a fact that health insurers need regulating more than least as much as Wall Street. Why has no one mentioned that McCain was the ONLY senator who didn't vote...didn't even show up...for the July Medicare vote that the NY Times called "crucial?" For God's sake...even Ted Kennedy showed up! On this close vote where one senator could make the difference either way, McCain chose to sit it out because it would have cost him support no matter which way he voted. Is this what we want in a President? Flip Flop Flip Flop

I smell a tax increase with all of these bail-outs. It seems almost inevitable. Kinda funny how this is all being done right before an election. I feel sorry for the next president and congress. It's almost like they are being set up for failure.

With regards to "falling off the horse", I think all politicians have. That's what happens when greed becomes more important than people.

Joe Biden is a VP candidate that gives us the confidence that US will not have another disastrous VP. After Cheney as VP for the last four years, Obama showed he cares about Americans in selecting a VP in Joe Biden.

A bad VP choice can lead the country in the wrong direction. Cheney reminds us of that.

Biden is a great pick for Vice President and this showing exactly why. He is doing a great job on the campaign trail and actually delivering a message that should resonate with voters. I hope it sinks in and the very people who whined and complained about Obama being too much of a celebrity realize that's exactly what they're all clamoring towards in Palin. Obama and Biden will help all of America. McCain and Palin will do exactly what had already been done.

Let's blame John McCain for tornadoes and hurricanes too. I think those are the only things Blowhard Biden have left out of his "National Blame Game".

He has nothing good to say about his own campaign (I wonder why), so just keep whining, and blaming, and distracting, and preaching.

    That's all he has.

I really want ot know who Palin appeals to.
She for sure is not a good mother, leaving a mentally challenged 4 month old baby for power.
She went to five colleges for a 4 year program and graduated in 6 years, at one point failed out of school.
Teenage pregnacy and dysfunctional family is now GOP values.
Lies upon lies upon lies even when caught on camera.
Abuse of power when outlook is bleak blame Obama.
Insult everybody. Tell lies about countries you've visited.
Even to her supporters you need to pause and really examine if she really reflects your value!!!!!!!!

Someone asked where Senator Biden has been the last 30 years re: this Wall Street mess – let me tell you where he was – fighting against de-regulation of the markets with fellow democrats in congress. They were unsuccessful. This economic meltdown rests soley in the hands of the Bush administration, the last six years of a republican controlled legislative branch, and our own greed and ignorance.

Hey JoeZ, that was a beautiful regurgitation of republican talking points that contain half-truths and misleading statements. Heck, with that kind of talent parroting what you've been told to say, you might get yourself tapped as the next VP candidate!

I say the "I am John McCain and i disapproved the message i approved" He didnt call her a pig, it was an ad

What the heck is this quoting so much of the same crap, can't he be original. Yeah lets blame the republicans for all the woes that the Clinton administration left behind also. He was busy guys with Monica. The Obama/Biden ticket is getting movie stars to endorse them, I mean they have multipule personailites. And all the money the public pays them to be schizo/paranoid people, like Barb stris. That is right not a typo. We know that the liberal Hollywood people in office that wont hold them accountable. Miss Barbara is hosting this gala for Obama, and she has problems with being around people. HELLO what does that say about her stable little sane world. Just because they make movies and can act do not make them experts at politics people get a cllue.

Did you see that Barack is now up in most polls taken in the last five days? The are two ways BO will win. Concentrate on the issues and tell the truth. The McCain campaign can't handle both because it goes against the fundamentals of lobbysts!

In my opinion, McCain was never on a horse. He's a coward and a cheat. He pretends he's a man of honor, but how honorable is it to leave your wife and three kids?

McCain is a pain, and Americans need to wake up.

Hey Joe, you fell off the horse when you became the VP with Mr. "On the Job Training". Remember that from the primaries? Regarding the economy, socialism is not the answer. Pelossi/ Reed/Obama would be a disaster.
