Female Democratic lawmakers say no to Palin

Speaker Pelosi fronted a press conference Wednesday of Democratic women from the House who are supporting Sen. Obama.
Speaker Pelosi fronted a press conference Wednesday of Democratic women from the House who are supporting Sen. Obama.

(CNN) – Amid a McCain campaign push for Hillary Clinton’s supporters, a group of major Democratic congresswomen said Wednesday Sarah Palin wasn’t helping the Republican ticket make major inroads among women voters.

Watch: Dem women back Obama

“By and large her supporters are backing Barack Obama,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a press conference at Democratic National Committee heaquarters, backed up by cheers from over a dozen female lawmakers standing beside her.

“At first, the Clinton supporters were disappointed,” said Rep. Diana DeGette of Colorado. “But in Denver, my district, Clinton unequivocally said she is supporting Barack Obama 100 percent, and all of the women who are supporting Hillary Clinton are supporting Barack Obama.”

Some national polls have shown McCain getting a boost among women voters since he tapped Palin as his running mate. To counteract that, Obama and Joe Biden — who have tapped the services of Hillary Clinton’s former director of women’s outreach — have launched a week-long effort dubbed “Women’s Week of Action.”

Obama and Biden will hold women’s rallies on Friday and the candidates’ wives, Michelle Obama and Jill Biden, have both hit the trail this week for women-themed events.

Clinton herself will also join the effort, joining VP nominee Joe Biden in a women’s online forum on Wednesday night.

Obama and Biden don't need this stuff. All they need to do is show women McCain's record on voting for women's rights, etc... It's atrocious.

    WOMEN FOR OBAMA / BIDEN!

Please put this at the top of the ticker.

We need to be fair and let it be shown that those that are educated and want the best for american, have actually chosen the best choice.

I've seen too much about how these women are voting for McCain simply because of sexism. I don't think it's a matter of being sexist (choosing a lady for the sake of a lady rather then qualifications), but rather a matter of education. The women voting for Palin are simply not educated, (although a few of them are probably racist pigs with lipstick).

  6. Regret the Palin Pick

Aides to Gov. Sarah Palin won't comply with subpoenas issued by state lawmakers investigating the firing of Alaska's former public safety commissioner, since Palin "has declined to participate" in the probe, her attorney general says."As state employees, our clients have taken an oath to uphold the Alaska Constitution, and for that reason, they respect the legislature's desire to carry out an investigation in support of its law-making powers," Attorney General Talis Colberg, a Palin appointee, told the investigation's manager in a letter released Wednesday. "However, our clients are also loyal employees subject to the supervision of the governor."

In other words, she is telling them not to cooperate. What kind of crap is this??? Do we want someone in the White House who thinks they are not subject to the laws? Talk about elitist!!!!

  7. Independents For McCain

This is so funny, The democratic lawmakers are saying that people who supported Hillary are now supporting Obama? What???
Of Course they are going to say that.

Vice President Palin is the most popular person on the planet gaining support not onlt from women but from men. The most popular democratic supporter of Hillary known as the head of the Hillraisers cast her support to McCain/Palin today.

The democratic party is losing it and do not know what to do because they have a ticket with no record all talk.

Independents for REAL Change and REFORM – McCain/Palin

    Teleprompter King/Plagerist – Obama/Biden

    Wishful thinking DNC/CNN

Palin has locked in the conservative women vote and in turn will put McCain over the top in November.

No one to blame but Obama (should have picked Hillary :)

  13. Paying Attention

Palin does not support the Democratic agenda so why would they vote for her? You must vote for what you beleive in. People need to look at what the candidates stand for and if it will make your life and the lives of other Americans better.

Do your research. Do not trust just one source for your information. Be informed. This election is too important to waste your vote.

    Vote for a better America.

About time Pelosi came out of hiding! PUMAs should feel really silly about jumping over to the G.O.P just because of Palin when HRC stands to gain from an Obama nomination, and the third in charge of this country is a Democratic WOMAN!!! Wake up people!

  15. WhoIsPalin?

Republicans use their women for political expediency while both male and female Dem party members work hand-in-hand to bring CHANGE and HOPE to America. OBAMA-HILLARY-BIDEN, COUNTRY FIRST, POLITICS LAST.

Come on ladies, keep supporting Obama... he is the only one who is fully supporting all of women's rights.. I wish he was our leader here in Canada!! I find Palin a very conniving lady who has only her own interest at heart... she will do anything to get ahead. And who is looking after her newest child. I am a mother of a daughter with Down Syndrome and we know how much nuturing and one-to-one contact our children need in their earliest years to help them become productive adults. Please vote Obama.

Honestly, Obama isn't my choice. Hillary is. However, let's be real. In life, you don't get the do what you want. Obama will be a better president than Mccain. I don't want anymore war. I don't want anymore deficits. If you vote for Obama, at least, Hillary and Bill can yak and yak at Obama if he does something wrong! Biden will be there to watch him. If you vote for Mccain, you'll leave out the good advices of Bill and Hillary. Vote with your brain, not with your butt!

    Women with SENSE!

Seriously, Palin gives women a bad name.

How can we go from the depths of Hilary's knowledge, intellegence and smarts to this shallow excuse of a candidate. I'd say it is McCain who is the number 1 sexist! You really think women are shallow enough to vote because of gender?

We're proud of Hilary true but with Palin, John, you insult us!

CNN please show you are unbiased by posting this.

No surprise....Palin does not represent the views of most women in this country. Her views are to the extreme right and it was foolish to think she would sway Hillary voters because she is a female.

It was obvious in her very first speech where she started by praising Geraldine Ferraro. In that moment, Palin became the first Republican to praise Ferraro since.....well, she became the first Republican to praise Ferraro.

  23. Hillary Supporters for McCain

    Here's my comment:

Go to hell Pelosi! Under your leadership, gas has gone up $2.00 a gallon before a vote to lift the ban on offshore drilling was even considered.

What's really ignorant is that the Democrats think we the people are too stupid to see that they would sacrifice the economy to win an election.

Oh, by the way... Democrats, quit calling me for money. Call Obama. I hear the celebrities are paying well.

Still for Hill, but voting McCain/Palin

  24. People make no sense

So these people are breaking the law to stand by a person. Good show of justice and reform: So Bush and Palin are related.

Direct quote from the AG of Alaska.

"As state employees, our clients have taken an oath to uphold the Alaska Constitution, and for that reason, they respect the legislature's desire to carry out an investigation in support of its law-making powers," Attorney General Talis Colberg, a Palin appointee, told the investigation's manager in a letter released Wednesday. "However, our clients are also loyal employees subject to the supervision of the governor."

    S. I"TS VERY SIMPLE, If Hillary supporters help elect McCain/Palin, there is a chance Palin could be President by 2012. She'll have her foot in the door and Hillary 2012 will be a distant memory. Scary, huh?

I'd rather wait eight more years for a credible woman candidate!
