(CNN) - Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin said Wednesday it was unfair of Barack Obama to attack John McCain after the Arizona senator said the fundamentals of the economy remain strong hours after a major investment bank filed for bankruptcy protection.
“Well, it was an unfair attack on the verbiage that Senator McCain chose to use because the fundamentals, as he was having to explain afterwards, he means our workforce, he means the ingenuity of the American people. And of course, that is strong and that is the foundation of our economy," Palin said in an interview with Fox News, her second sit-down with a reporter since being named to the Republican presidential ticket nearly three weeks ago.
“Certainly it is a mess though, the economy is a mess," Palin also said. "And there have been abuses on Wall Street and that adversely effects Main Street."
Less than 12 hours after the announcements banking giant Lehman Brothers went bankrupt and Merrill Lynch was being sold, John McCain told a Florida crowd, "People are frightened by these events - our economy, I think, still, the fundamentals of our economy are strong."
The Obama campaign immediately pounced on the comment. McCain said later in the day the strength he was referring to was that of the "American worker."

Can't WAIT to hear what McSame says TOMORROW, after another 450-point loss today and an enormous corporate collapse.
Well, I suppose when you're down a mere $3 million or so on your $100-million dollar nest egg, it doesn't look too bad.
Hey, Sarah, how are your income tax returns coming along? Will the editing be done in time for us to see them before the election?
Just maybe Barack Obama would love, a run on the Banks. And just before Christmas?? Where is Clarence??? I hear, a Bell Ringing!!! Do you...
With Obamas dirty Chicago Politics, I do not trust him or Michelle at all. What a joke his nomination has been. The DNC will not shove him down my throat. I have a gut feeling about him that just won't go away, call it womens' intuition. Obama scares me more everyday, I do not think he can handle the huge task that is awaiting the next President. He had to take two vacations during the primary season. The problems of a campaign are nothing compared to securing the future of this country, both domestically and abroad
truth hurths!!!!!!!!!! tell me now truth hurts Palin????????????
McCain didn't say workforce. He said fundamentals. I suppose he misspoke when he said he doesn't really understand the economy or economics.
Truth is he really doesn't get it. Would not know what to do with this crisis. Republicans never do...and yes, he is as republican.
Instead of backtracking everytime McSame opens his mouth an "misspeaks" why doesn't his handlers write the exact words they want said and tell him to stick to the script!
I for one, won't tolerate another administration that thinks it is above the law and can cite some sort of "executive privaledge to avoid testifying in key cases.
The lastest report that Ms. Palin and her staff will attempt to stonewall the investigation into so-called "Troopergate" reminds me too much of what we just went through with Cheney & Scooter Libby.
I can no longer consider voting for McCain – Palin. They really don't get it.
If leaders do not trust this economy, what would people say.
The long term should be based on leaders who believe in country!
Not exploiters of local problems!
Somtimes you just have to say uncle!!!
I think John McCain was trying to encouarge Americans that they can overcome this economy crisis. I think that's what he meant. Democrats are good at words without action so they attacked right away.
Well if McCain would THINK before he spoke and not just say the first thing on his mind, people wouldn't have to CLARIFY his remarks...he should practice holding his tongue for a few seconds before making a statement instead of trying to appear that he knows everything and doesn't need to think about what he is going to say....
I can't believe that is the best the McCain campaign can come up with. The fact this was their response that he "means our workforce, he means the ingenuity of the American people. And of course, that is strong and that is the foundation of our economy." So is McCain saying back in the Great Depression that our workforce or our ingenuity wasn't strong then? How many times does he have to lie to you before you realize that he is not ready for the Presidency and neither by a long shot is Palin.
elementry school i am telling my mom this is unfair hAHahhh
Unfair is telling people you're against the Bridge to nowhere when in fact your were not. Unfair is telling people thanks but no thanks, but you took the money.
Why is it all i see is attack ads from Obama on the news for most part ...... this is going the high road ? I don't see Biden being slammed ..
This lady is robotic!
Now would be a good time for McCain talk about his support of privitizing Social Security.
Who knows, he might just be stupid enough to do it.
Palin is 10 times worse than Dan Quayle. Remember him? People who look at Palin and see a leader need SERIOUS help.
Show us your tax returns, college degree, results of the investigation in Alaska where you were gov for less than two years ...... and the American votes will offer you a Bridge to Nowhere, Sarah!!
Not news! My mom used to tell me "life isn't fair" and that "you are accountable for your actions". So while I might feel bad for McCain about him saying some absolute stupid comments. I think the fact that he owns seven houses and his familly is work 100 million makes me think he's going to be ok.
Quick, name the top 5 fundamentals of the economy.
Did "workers" make the list?
'“Certainly it is a mess though, the economy is a mess," Palin also said. '
DEAR GOD IN HEAVEN! WHAT AN IDIOT!
hey, whatever happened to the "pitbull"??? how come its whining?
Hey, how is she going to talk to Vladimir Puten when she runs away from microphones.
LOL
Sarah is a joke.
These people BLATANTLY lie and then want to say its UNFAIR that Obama notes things that they actually DO???
Are you kidding me? Are there really people voting for these folks?
I'm amazed!
