Palin takes first impromptu question from national press

Gov. Palin campaigned in Nevada last weekend.

Gov. Palin campaigned in Nevada last weekend.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (CNN) - Sarah Palin took her first impromptu question from a reporter traveling with her campaign Wednesday while shaking hands at a restaurant called Karl's Inn of the Barristers in Cleveland.

A pool reporter from the national press corps asked Palin's reaction to the federal bailout of insurance giant AIG.

Palin said she is "disappointed that taxpayers are called upon to bailout another one."

"Certainly AIG, though, with the construction bonds that they're holding, and with the insurance that they are holding, very, very impactful to Americans," she said. "So you know, the shot that has been called by the feds, it's understandable but very, very disappointing that taxpayers are called upon for another one."

The reporter asked Palin if she had plans to come to the back of the campaign plane to chat with the reporters who cover her as she campaigns around the country.

"We're getting lonely back there," the reporter said.

"Are you getting lonely?," Palin answered. "Gee, yeah, come on up then!"

When Palin entered the restaurant with her husband Todd, she introduced herself to about 10 patrons as "Sarah," and told them, "Excuse me for interrupting your meal." It was Palin's first retail campaign stop since the day McCain tapped her as his running mate.

Knowing the McCain campaign, they won't let Governor Palin campaign by herself very long. They scared she gonna put her foot in her mouth. Thank you

Typical political answer, came down on both sides. She is just an average politician, just a little dumber and seemingly less honest than most. We should give her credit, however. She did actually answer a question.

Proud of Hilary for not appearing with her. To do so would only diminish Senator Clinton.

LOL from someone traveling with her!!! It had to be set up, she studied up for that answer. She knew what was going to be asked and it was the only reason she took it from a reporter traveling with her.

    GIve me a break!!

Nice safe answer. No insight. No gaffes. Safely neutral. Politically correct.

    1. What should we do with waste from nuke power plants? What about the "NIMBY" attitude? Where do you put it?

    2. How do feel about the NASA. and the space programs as a whole? If we face budget crunches, would you cancel projects in progress where millions have already been spent?

    3. Some critics of school vouchers have pointed out handing out vouchers is bad in a few ways. Do you feel vouchers will spell the end of our public school systems? Everyone cannot receive a voucher for the child, so how do we decide who gets one and who doesn't?

    4. Do you believe in separation of Church and State? Should elected officials try to legislate morality?

Palin is already like Bush to me, I have a hard time believing anything that comes out of her mouth. I will say thank you to Palin though, this is the first time ever during an election season my sister is scared and fired up to vote against what Palin stands for.

    Culture wars are so 1984.

Sarah Palin couldn't lead her town of 5,000 people out of financial ruin. How can anyone seriously expect her to help an economy 55,000 times larger?
Sarah Palin can't tell the difference between foreign policy and geography!
Sarah Palin didn't know what the VP did until she was told! She doesn't know what the Bush Doctrine is!

    This woman is CLUELESS!

Clueless! They (the campaign) are spoon feeding her and cramming her full of information and it shows. Everyone should go to MSNBC and read the article "A McCain lawyer scrambles to block a Palin ethics inquiry." They are trying desperately to delay this investigation until after the election because they know she is guilty despite Palin saying she will fully cooperate with it on national television with Charles Gibson. I honestly can't believe people are considering voting for this scandal ridden, horribly inexperienced pathological liar who will give us more of the same. She is Cheyney with lipstick.

Its your own running mate's deregulatory policies that caused this. Now the govt is going to own 80% of my insurance policy. Safe as the grave, as they say.
    NOT.

She is phony. I do not care what kind of error she will make as long as she manages to be herself. If she continues to act as somebody she is not then she will fail miserable failure. The people are smart and will figure out what she is made of soon.

How many weeks did it take?

Moreover, what would happen if the firm weren't bail out?

I just think the government should charge a heavy interest rate on AIG to pay back the bailout they are being given...

also, an impromptu question from the press, like one question? gee whiz! she's finally come around and will take another question from one reporter, hopefully. meanwhile, joe biden gave seven or ten interviews, just yesterday morning.

if that alone is not scary enough, then i'll say some american voters will deserve what's coming of them should the mccain/pain ticket takes over. at that time, then, they will no one else to blame but them sorry selves.

  18. William, from Cali!

I'm glad it wasn't her call to make!.........AIG would be.... history, and we(the taxpayers) would be "in a even deep mess for it"; so much for the Republicans saving the economy............ask her another question!

AIG probably also endorsed the Bridge to Nowhere. She has to come out and say good things about THAT bailout.

What about the American people who are losing their jobs, their health care, low wages for more work.........who's going to bail US out, witch??

Just the fact that this is news says something about palin and the kind of candidate she has been, and the kind of leader she would be. If she is not willing or able to take hard, impromptu questions while on the campaign trail, do we really want her in a position where she will be talking with foreign leaders, negotiating US policy and potentially making major decisions about how this country is to run without a campaign staffer in her ear?
