Prominent Clinton backer and Dem donor to endorse McCain

Lynn Forester de Rothschild was a strong supporter of Clinton's White House bid.
Lynn Forester de Rothschild was a strong supporter of Clinton's White House bid.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a prominent Hillary Clinton supporter and member of the Democratic National Committee’s Platform Committee, will endorse John McCain for president on Wednesday, her spokesman tells CNN.

The announcement will take place at a news conference on Capitol Hill, just blocks away from the DNC headquarters. Forester will “campaign and help him through the election,” the spokesman said of her plans to help the Republican presidential nominee.

Forester was a major donor for Clinton earning her the title as a Hillraiser for helping to raise at least $100,000 for the New York Democratic senator’s failed presidential bid.

In an interview with CNN this summer, Forester did not hide her distaste for eventual Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.

“This is a hard decision for me personally because frankly I don't like him,” she said of Obama in an interview with CNN’s Joe Johns. “I feel like he is an elitist. I feel like he has not given me reason to trust him.”

Forester is the CEO of EL Rothschild, a holding company with businesses around the world. She is married to international banker Sir Evelyn de Rothschild. Forester is a member of the DNC’s Democrats Abroad chapter and splits her time living in London and New York.

AND THE TRUTH COMES OUT!!! This is the real reason people will not vote for Obama...not becasue of the issues, but because of the fact that he is an educated, well spoken black man and that just does not fit America's defination of a black man...it goes against everything you believe a black man is and that is why you don't like him...just tell the TRUTH!!!!! Ms. Forester has no right to say she does like him becasue he is an elist..she makes millions of dollars and travels back and forth to Londen and NY...just say why u really don't want to vote for him...just say it!!!!

    PLEASE POST

Just remember that behind that remark there is a race issue.
What is elitist anyway? I guess CNN has a duty to teach people about this concept. Cindy McCain she is an elitist, Rotchild hersel is. Give me a break! For me race is an issue.

This is why women are given a bad name in our society. We are accused of being to emotional and letting that guide our actions. We are accused of not being capable of being fully rational. Women like this give all women a bad name.

    To Adam:

You do realize that having graduated magna cum laude from Harvard, and having been editor of the Harvard Law review, the amount of money made from his books PALES in comparison to the money he would have made on, let's say, Wall Street.

Lawyers who graduate from Harvard with those accomplishments don't write application job letters, they're made offers to write in their own salaries.

She doesn't really care about our country then. Notice she doesn't say that McCain has the better ideas for fixing our problems or that she agrees with the Repubicans' platform.

Let me get this right. A Rothschild believes that Obama is an elitist?! This is a family that made its untold fortune by lending money to European royalty! Live long enough and you see everything.

Its amazing that some people would rather take a greater chance on being hungry and homeless rather than vote for a black man. If McCain wins, we will all be in the soup line. Also, for all the McCain voters, when he starts wars, your children should be the first one's on the front line.

She won't endorse Obama because he is an "elitist"? What is she? If Obama is an elitist, then I can't think of the words that would appropriately describe a jet-setting woman who has homes in two continents and has wealth that 99.9% of Americans could only fantasize about! Clearly she has some very personal vendetta against Obama. What is sad is how vulnerable and naive most Americans are, and they believe most of the garbage all these people say!

I am a life long Liberal. Why, when ever comeone voices an opinion against Senator Obama, they are automatically a racist? This is still a free nation, is it not? When the People are more partisan than the government, what hope do we have?

She's a CEO and her husband is named Sir? Travels back and forth between some of the most expensive cities in the world —NYC and London? The person she's voting for has 8 houses? And Obama is the elite one? Am I missing something here?

That's great: hurt the party itself. She's not the only one doing this and I think there's more than one elephant in the room here. Race, I believe, is the unspoken factor–for the plethora of democrat turncoats and for Obama's low numbers in the polls. The republicans have overseen the most disastrous 8 years in modern history for this country, and yet they're ahead in the polls and democrats are considering voting for them? Unbelievable.

No need to add to the widespread disgust for this person who dares to call Obama an elitist. The GOP can have her.

Not related to the Ticker item, but....

I am a registered Independent in Pennsylvania who has contributed to Obama and another local Democratic candidate this cycle.
In the last 3 days, I have received 14 recorded messages from a female voice who does not identify who she works for, but tells me to check my mailbox for an absentee ballot application so I can "vote against Obama".
Others in PA and who may be getting these calls elsewhere, do not fall for it. Other states including Ohio and Virginia have seen mailings of absentee ballot forms with a picture of McCain on them (but not necessarily from the McCain campaign itself) that turn out to be incorrect or have wrong information on them – including the address where they are to be mailed, information that needs to be filled in, etc.
Democrat, Republican or Independent – if you use these absentee ballot forms the end result may be that you are scammed out of your vote.
Anyone who needs an absentee ballot should call their County Board of Elections for the proper procedure to request one, and make sure you do it at least 30 days in advance of November 4th.

    Thank you.
