Obama's Limbaugh ad causes stir

Limbaugh says an Obama ad is 'stoking racism.'

(CNN) - A Republican congressman and supporter of John McCain called a Spanish television ad from the Obama campaign "offensive and dishonest" Thursday, and said the Democratic nominee owes the Latino community an apology.

"It is offensive and dishonest for Barack Obama to lie about John McCain's record on immigration and years of support for the Hispanic community, when it was Barack Obama himself who voted for 'poison pill' amendments that killed the effort at immigration reform. Instead of making false ads with baseless attacks, Barack Obama should be apologizing to the Latino community," Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart said in statement released by the McCain campaign.

The Spanish-language ad, launched earlier this week, aims to connect McCain to Republicans who have staked out staunch anti-illegal immigration stances - including talk radio host Rush Limbaugh.

"They want us to forget the insults we've put up with, the intolerance," the television ad's narrator says in Spanish as an image of Limbaugh is quoted saying, "Mexicans are stupid and unqualified" and "Shut your mouth or get out."

"They made us feel marginalized in a country we love so much," the narrator continues. "John McCain and his Republican friends have two faces. One that says lies just to get our vote and another, even worse, that continues the failed policies of George Bush that put special interests ahead of working families."

But McCain has repeatedly disagreed with his party's base on the issue of immigration and was a chief sponsor of an immigration reform bill last year that deeply angered conservatives and nearly sunk his campaign for the presidency. The Arizona senator is also no favorite of Limbaugh, particularly for seeming to take a moderate stance on illegal immigration. But critics note McCain shifted his own policy on immigration as the Republican presidential primary race heated up, advocating a "security first" approach.

Limbaugh also took issue with the ad, telling the Politico it had taken his past statements - one of which is 15 years old - out of context and was an attempt at "race baiting."

"Obama is now stoking racism in the country," Limbaugh said. "Obama is a disgrace - he wants the public to think he is Mr. Nice Guy while his thugs are in Alaska looking for dirt on Palin and he runs race-baiting ads and lies about what he has done and what McCain has done."

Limbaugh playing the victim is the funniest thing I have heard about this week. He trashes Obama daily, but when his words are used against him he gets his panties in a bunch.

You notice how he calls Obama's people "thugs". Gee, I wonder what he meant by that.

Limbaugh is trash! You better update your prescription Rush. Doctors and Pharmacists in the area beware, Rush needs new meds!

I can't believe how you can report on a story and not even tell the truth. Rush was talking about THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT'S POLICIES. Yes, i know you won't believe it, but those are the policies of the Mexican government. Rush was saying that to make a point. All you kool-aid sucking people should take a second and stop being spoon fed. Shame on you CNN for not accurately reporting this. Check your data before you print it.

at first i was like, "tsk. tsk. Obama campaign," but as i kept reading the truth came out. the point is, McCain is with them now. Can he really say, "Well, I use to not feel this way"? I don't think so.

good luck with that, doping windbag.

McCain changed his positon to appeal to his party's base so that he could continue his candidacy. Plain and simple. If he had stuck to his guns, he wouldn't have this problem. But he put himself before the country! He picked Palin to shore up his base and he kowtowed to the party on immigration and a host of other issues to ensure their support. Who knows how he really feels about anything because he goes with the Republican flow.

We all know that comedian Rush Limbaugh is the Hispanic community's closest amigo. How this hateful man has remained on the radio all these years is beside me.

As for McSame, he cannot have it both ways. That's what Obama is calling him on.

Barack is giving 'em the truth, and they obviously feel as though they're in hell. Job well done!

McCain's "security first" position makes him guilty as charged.

Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart and Rush Limbaugh are complete idiots who use their Republican platforms to distort the truth.

The Republicans are used to screaming "offensive", "dishonest", "insulting", "wolf" "wolf"... when they are blasted with plain and simple truth.

...And they will always look for ways to shift the focus from the economy. Don't be swayed.

Well two rights don't usually make a right. the ad sounds like it's half true though. McCain has changed his stance, yes?

and so I guess then, someone should ask McCain to apologize for stating Obama is going to raise most Americans' taxes, when in fact Obama will reduce them for approximately 90%.

And where oh where does Limbaugh get off acting so self-righteous, being the fear monger, hate monger and race monger that he is? Laughable. Incredible.

Actually, I was just listening to Rush. He replayed what he had said. Guess what? What he said, was taken from Mexico. In other words, he basically, quoted Mexico's stance on foreign immigration. I am a Moderate. I love listening to the other side for arguement purposes. But, this time, this was taken totally out of context. Come on People! Get the whole statement before you repoprt this!

Does this mean it is now fair to use anyone with even a tenuous connection to the canidate and attribute it to the canidate? Is that now fair game?

How about "I don't think we bombed enough"?

    Or's "general betrayus"?

    Of "GD America"?

Obama and his supporters were well aware of the kind of attacks he would encounter and he still said he would not be that kind of politician. He garnered a lot of support because of that position. But here he is telling lies bigger than what his opponent has done. This is why I do not support Obama even though I am a democrat. He can not be trusted. I know all politicians lie, but to lie about lying is worse yet.

WAAAHHHH! All I know is the tone of this campaign would be alot different if McSame did not mention, every five seconds, to have a town hall meeting!

Everyone knows Rush a hate-spewing crackhead. If anyone should apologize, it's him to this great country for poisoning public discourse for the last 20 years.

This makes me sick!!!! How dare Rush, or anyone from McCain's campaign complain about ANY ADS! They are the absolute worst and ought to be ashamed of themselves. I'll never forget the "sex ed" ad, that made me vote for Obama, and I'm an independent. That was the end of McCain/Palin for me.

Rush is as pathetic as O'Reilly. I love it these gasbags are being called out. hahahahahaha The left has let them get away with their hate and fearmongering for far too long. I love it that they are whining now. What, do they not like the mirror they're being forced to look into? McCain either needs to denounce their tactics and beliefs or admit he's on their side.

Now who's whining? The Republicans. They can dish out the lies and inuendos, but when it comes to getting it back, they start kicking and screaming like a newborn baby.

Republicans: If you can't take it, don't dish it out. Criticism of the other party is a 2-way street.

As for Rush Limbaugh, he could improve his personality 100% if he had his tongue cut out.
