Obama's Limbaugh ad causes stir

Limbaugh says an Obama ad is 'stoking racism.'

(CNN) - A Republican congressman and supporter of John McCain called a Spanish television ad from the Obama campaign "offensive and dishonest" Thursday, and said the Democratic nominee owes the Latino community an apology.

"It is offensive and dishonest for Barack Obama to lie about John McCain's record on immigration and years of support for the Hispanic community, when it was Barack Obama himself who voted for 'poison pill' amendments that killed the effort at immigration reform. Instead of making false ads with baseless attacks, Barack Obama should be apologizing to the Latino community," Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart said in statement released by the McCain campaign.

The Spanish-language ad, launched earlier this week, aims to connect McCain to Republicans who have staked out staunch anti-illegal immigration stances - including talk radio host Rush Limbaugh.

"They want us to forget the insults we've put up with, the intolerance," the television ad's narrator says in Spanish as an image of Limbaugh is quoted saying, "Mexicans are stupid and unqualified" and "Shut your mouth or get out."

"They made us feel marginalized in a country we love so much," the narrator continues. "John McCain and his Republican friends have two faces. One that says lies just to get our vote and another, even worse, that continues the failed policies of George Bush that put special interests ahead of working families."

But McCain has repeatedly disagreed with his party's base on the issue of immigration and was a chief sponsor of an immigration reform bill last year that deeply angered conservatives and nearly sunk his campaign for the presidency. The Arizona senator is also no favorite of Limbaugh, particularly for seeming to take a moderate stance on illegal immigration. But critics note McCain shifted his own policy on immigration as the Republican presidential primary race heated up, advocating a "security first" approach.

Limbaugh also took issue with the ad, telling the Politico it had taken his past statements - one of which is 15 years old - out of context and was an attempt at "race baiting."

"Obama is now stoking racism in the country," Limbaugh said. "Obama is a disgrace - he wants the public to think he is Mr. Nice Guy while his thugs are in Alaska looking for dirt on Palin and he runs race-baiting ads and lies about what he has done and what McCain has done."

Barack: I don't know how to break it to you but, Rush isn't running for anything. And even if he were, McCain disagreed with him on this issue.

Well it is anybody's guess where McCain will be on any issue at any one time - he's blowing in the wind - kind of sounds like snoring to me.

Can't Limbaugh say one good thing about anybody not conservative? Whether he likes Obama's views shouldn't he be proud to be in a America with a Black Presidential candidate.

I don't really approve of Obama spreading falsehoods in his ads-if that's what happened here-but how is this any different from what McCain's done? His ads distorting the legislation Obama worked on to teach young kids how to protect themselves from pedophiles, his false claims about Obama's tax plans-these are outright lies. McCain camp, if you can't take it, don't dish it out.

So? People that committed murder 15 years ago are still in prison today!

The sword of words cuts and cuts. Now that we have ways of "remembering" what has been said, and can replay it over and over, the whole world will see the sword that has been drawn.

It's a fair playing field when both adversaries have the same sword.

McCain changed his stance and not because of his "newly informed position." He changed his stance so he could get nominated.

Live by the sword – die by the sword.

I can't wait to see the popular vote results – regardless of the electorial college, OB08

this shows that mccain and republicians has missed it already by trying to say that Obama is anti-latino. Obama, just continue your goods works. we are solidly behind you. Mccain starts missing it when he says that the fundamental of this economy is strong when people are losing their housing, losing their jobs, the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. Mccain missed it also by his definition of a rich man and belittling community organising work.

Republicans always cry when the tables are turned. Is there a law that says republicans can lie all they want and not be held accountable?

Limbaugh is a hipocrit and he is a racist! He has his nerve to talk about Obama. Obama is only doing what he needs to do to win. Playing nice all the time like he has is not working. So he has go get tough and Limbaugh is just mad someone has beat him at his own game.

  13. You sure about that?

way to go obama. race baiting is exactly what this is. this is about the lowest anyone's gone since the daisy ad, but even that one wasn't geared at inciting a race war. It's one thing to play to hispanic immigrants but to flat out lie to them and on top of it start calling all republicans racist because of one or 2 of them being vocal about their opinions is insane. I hope this becomes a bigger story because this would not go over well with the average person.

"nearly sunk his presidency"?? What presidency? He has never been president, although he is sinking–slowly in the west, and Sarah is going down with him. Both of them are completely incoherent when they try to speak about the economy. Sarah's talk about OPM sounds like a tenth-grader faking her homework. Can she see Wall Street, too, from her house in Alaska?

    JOE IN NJ:

It was McCain who said he was running a "clean" campaign. The republicans like to dish dirt but cry when it is thrown back at them.
