Palin's transparency proposal already exists in D.C.

Sarah Palin says she will bring the same kind of transparency she brought to Alaska to Washington, D.C..

Sarah Palin says she will bring the same kind of transparency she brought to Alaska to Washington, D.C..

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CNN) - Sarah Palin likes to tell voters around the country about how she “put the government checkbook online” in Alaska. On Thursday, Palin suggested she would take that same proposal to Washington.

“We’re going to do a few new things also,” she said at a rally in Cedar Rapids. “For instance, as Alaska’s governor, I put the government’s checkbook online so that people can see where their money’s going. We’ll bring that kind of transparency, that responsibility, and accountability back. We’re going to bring that back to D.C.”

There’s just one problem with proposing to put the federal checkbook online – somebody’s already done it. His name is Barack Obama.

Watch: Palin says 'Obama hasn't lifted a finger'

In 2006 and 2007, Obama teamed up with Republican Sen. Tom Coburn to pass the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act, also known as “Google for Government.” The act created a free, searchable web site – USASpending.gov - that discloses to the public all federal grants, contracts, loans and insurance payments.

In June of this year, Obama and Coburn introduced new Senate legislation to expand the information available online to include details on earmarks, competitive bidding, criminal activities, audit disputes and other government information.

Palin might also have noted that her running mate, John McCain, was an original co-sponsor of the 2006 transparency bill that became law.

UPDATE: A campaign spokesperson insisted that Palin was referring not to that specific proposal, but rather to "that kind of transparency in general."

Change, Reform Washington, Enough,Ethnics reform(already done by Obama too), Regulation of the financial institutions, now they want to put the checkbook that Obama has already put online, online. Will Obama have any ideas that they haven't tried to copy before the election is over?

This is hysterical!!!! I can't stop laughing. Those of you who say you are Democrats but not voting for Obama, I simply do not believe you are true Democrats. Perhaps you are just very wealthy and do not want to pay any extra taxes or perhaps you are racist, but I can't think of any other reason to not support a very bright, gifted man like Barack Obama. He may not be perfect but he does reflect our Democratic values which is the most important thing of all. Even if you don't like him, do what is best for the country and McCain and Palin do NOT put country first. Obama has-he picked Biden and look who McCain chose.

They have tried hard to steal the CHANGE message from Obama, now she is trying to steal the government spending transparency.

Do they have anything ORIGINAL, so that they can claim it is there's –

Of course, the current economic situtation, war in Iraq, budget deficit, unemployment, foreclosures, nearly 10 trillion in debt ................................

It's not her fault. The blame is with her campaign staff who did not check out the information first before she made it part of her speech. Seems double checking information seems to be a problem for the McCain campaign... like vetting Palin.

That is.... unless she said it without telling anyone about it first so it could be checked out.

Now she's going to claim Obama copied her idea.

    This is getting too predictable.

    She wants "transparency"?

    What about Troopergate?

If she is for real she would put her money where her big mouth is and let the Alaskan legislature investigate.

Here's what's rich: McCain and Palin have repeatedly said that Obama hasn't presented one bill and also that he has never ever worked across the aisle.

Now Palin introduces a "new" bill that has already been co-authored by a one republican and one democrat...Obama.

You cannot make this stuff up!!!!!!! Does the McCain camp even proof read this stuff????

She is a tool for the Republicans, they knew she would bring alot of controversy, and that is why they chose her. I am just surprised she is not smart enough to figure out.

Sarah Palin: the Clarence Thomas of women.

It's nice that she supports Obama's efforts to clean up Washington. She should be quite happy under an Obama presidency.

We don't know anything about this women, I can't believe that no one can interview her but those that are on McCain side like Hannity please!!

If this was Obama this would not be stood for at all. What make her so different and why are these reporters not being more persistence about getting a way to ask her some tough guestions. Something is really wrong with this picture. My vote goes to Obama for President and I am a proud women against Palin crap.
