Palin's transparency proposal already exists in D.C.

Sarah Palin says she will bring the same kind of transparency she brought to Alaska to Washington, D.C..

Sarah Palin says she will bring the same kind of transparency she brought to Alaska to Washington, D.C..

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CNN) - Sarah Palin likes to tell voters around the country about how she “put the government checkbook online” in Alaska. On Thursday, Palin suggested she would take that same proposal to Washington.

“We’re going to do a few new things also,” she said at a rally in Cedar Rapids. “For instance, as Alaska’s governor, I put the government’s checkbook online so that people can see where their money’s going. We’ll bring that kind of transparency, that responsibility, and accountability back. We’re going to bring that back to D.C.”

There’s just one problem with proposing to put the federal checkbook online – somebody’s already done it. His name is Barack Obama.

Watch: Palin says 'Obama hasn't lifted a finger'

In 2006 and 2007, Obama teamed up with Republican Sen. Tom Coburn to pass the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act, also known as “Google for Government.” The act created a free, searchable web site – USASpending.gov - that discloses to the public all federal grants, contracts, loans and insurance payments.

In June of this year, Obama and Coburn introduced new Senate legislation to expand the information available online to include details on earmarks, competitive bidding, criminal activities, audit disputes and other government information.

Palin might also have noted that her running mate, John McCain, was an original co-sponsor of the 2006 transparency bill that became law.

UPDATE: A campaign spokesperson insisted that Palin was referring not to that specific proposal, but rather to "that kind of transparency in general."

McCain is qualified and so is Obama. Palin is neither highly educated or experienced. There is no way we as Americans can entrust her with the gigantic and complex U.S. economy.

this would all be funny if it wasn't so disturbing. Has McCain and his people just lost it? They've definitely lost direction and don't make much sense lately. One day to another -one hour to another they contradict themselves. Come up with inane ideas and plans... Just today McCain said he'd fire the SEC president – he can't it's not within the Presidents power to do so. He's lost his grip... perhaps some of the rumors about his health are true?

  9. White and Black support for Obama

Palin welcome to accountabilities and transpiracy in Washington put in place by Obama.

The old man has been in washington for 26 years and can't account for anything he has done that benefit Americans.

Obama come to washington 3 years and has already shown he can work for Americans.
Greate job Obama....yes he has done it and he will do it again.

CNN; Why so much coverage of Palin? You barely give Joe Biden any coverage. I'm tired of seeing her read-read-read... Nothing ever comes from the heart or straight from her head. She and McCain have no intention of doing what they say. I don't belive this ticket, it's a farce.

Of course she didn't know about this. No one from McCain's campaign acknowledges any of Obama's accomplishments. Too little, too late.

Transparency, now that's a new concept for Palin! Too funny, obviously she has no clue about what is actually going on in the U.S or the rest of the world either. Interesting info. on Anderson Cooper last nite? Her claim to be such a "fiscal hawk" left her Alaskin town in deep debt when she was Mayor. More proof that she "abuses" power, she started a project there even knowing they didn't own the property! Scary.

I wish Obama would get hardcore and run an ad with all the Republican "ideas" that are actually copycats of his accomplishments. Take it off the table for the opponents. Let them find their own darn ideas!!

    She made a transparent proposal.

She claims to have reduced earmarks as governor. But, she accepted the dollars for the BTN anway. If you add those dollars on top of the "reduced" earmarks dollars, what do you get? An effective increase.

Tell Governor Palin the only transparency we need from her and the people in Alaska is to accept those subpoenas and testify.

Macain and Sara want to be like Obama. They want to use Obama's ideas and his vission and take them for thier own. Problem is, the American people are vigilant and wise and they know fluff and fluke when they see two of them as in macain/palin.

Obama brought change into campaign '08 and if Mcain try to fool the American people by talking change now, problem is, it is still Obama/Biden with the VISSION AND NEW IDEAS FOR CHANGE FOR OUR GOVERNMENT TO WORK FOR ALL THE PEOPLE. ONE AMERICA, VISSION FOR CHANGE. OBAMA AND BIDEN, PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 2009-2016.
