John McCain and Sarah Palin were interrupted by protestors Thursday.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CNN) - Sarah Palin’s introduction of John McCain in Cedar Rapids Thursday was noisily interrupted by a small group of anti-war protesters from the University of Iowa, who sparked a back-and-forth of shouting that drowned out at least four minutes of her remarks.

Palin kept speaking throughout the disruption, but her remarks were nearly unintelligible to much of the audience inside the airplane hangar where the rally was held.

About five minutes into Palin’s speech, four female students from the University of Iowa Feminist Majority and Anti-War Alliance held up a cloth banner, and began a loud anti-war chant in the middle of the crowd. An advance staffer tore the banner from their hands and other members of the audience shouted them down with chants of “USA! USA!” and “SARAH! SARAH!”

It was several minutes before the women were escorted from the venue.

The demonstration should have come as no surprise to McCain-Palin advance staff: a local newspaper, The Gazette, reported earlier that the protesters would be in attendance Thursday.

Another protester disrupted McCain’s speech about half an hour later, sparking an even louder, but shorter, commotion.

Palin stumbled out of the gate on arriving in Cedar Rapids. The Alaska governor told the audience that she was thrilled to be in “Grand Rapids,” the Michigan city where the campaign had just overnighted.

Haha. Good protesters are needed at those McSame Pali(es)n rallies.

How can McCain reprogram PLAIN PALIN when he does not know how to use a Blackberry let alone a Computer for robots.

Helen   September 18th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

This election is not about PALIN so why don't we just stop focusing on her and start focusing on MCSAME AND OBAMA.

This election is about the future of the United States, its people and our children. You IDIOTS who are going to vote for McSame need to wake up. This man has no idea of what to do to get this country back on track. This is quite obvious by the choice he made for Vice President. The only thing he is interested in is to be President of the United States and he doesn't care one hoot about the American people and how much they are suffering. How would he know anyway, he has seven houses that he didn't even know he had.

Jerry Ohio   September 18th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

They in the wrong town people are hurting these days McCain and Palin are dirty politician....We need change we need obama/Biden

Americans of any political affiliation should condemn such unprovoked disrespectful behavior.

petena   September 18th, 2008 3:41 pm ET

SP is now getting so much controversy because the truth is coming out and she is NOT qualified to be VP and God forbid President. Had she been probably vetted, she would not be McCains selection because all this stuff would have already come out. To think that we, the women of America, are dumb enough to just vote Republican just because there is a woman on the ticket, is an insult to me. I am putting Country first when I make my decision and its not about beauty – its about brains.

From reading the comments here...

....it appears that the polls show Obama leading are misleading...

...do they poll cell phone owners...

...guess not...

CNN Please post this!

As an Iowa, I am extremely offended by Palin's "Grand Rapids" entrance.

In case you forgot, Cedar Rapids was one hit HARD by the flood this summer, it was all over national news, and affected a lot of people in this region.

How out of touch...

jerry hayes   September 18th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

all protesters believe in "free speech" as long as theirs is the only voice being heard....

TAYO, NY   September 18th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

Well, people just don't like McCain's policy. Period!

I dont like it either!

He put his political ambition first and choose green horn as a running mate.

What do you expect?

He should be ready for more protest!

Period!

ines   September 18th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

A very SAD ticket, indeed, that they have to brief their little audience in advance to start chanting a pre-approved word to block out peaceful war protesters – that are protesting for PEACE.

WONDERING   September 18th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

So then.....it would be OK for protesters to show up at Obama/Biden rallies and disrupt and that would be fine. I don't CNN wouldn't be able to print the remarks the Obama supporters would say if it were to happen to them. This country is paying the price of this type of disrespectul mentality.

Todd (Austin, Texas)   September 18th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

Sarah Palin is a joke and should have never been picked as McCain's VP choice. McCain attacks Obama on his experience and then has the nerve to appoint someone with less experience. Honestly I could answer the questions she has been asked better than she has been able to...being a Hockey Mom from Alaska and Mayor of the Crystal Meth capital of Alaska qualifies you for absolutely nothing. The highschool I attended in Texas had almost as many students as the entire population of Wasilla. McCain is clueless and his choice of Palin proves he needs to have his head examined. The Republicans who attacked Obama for the experience issue and now support Palin are proving themselves to be the Hypocrites we all knew they were in the beginning.

Larry Craig anyone?

I can't, but can, believe that she continued to read her prepared speech while protesters were yelling at her. Even Obama takes time to listen to people who don't agree with him and talk to them as well.

When we get a leader who listens to us, it will such a refreshing change.

McCain is in trouble – maybe not from Obama but from Palin.

Her saying the 'Palin/McCain administration' was not a Freudian slip. It is what she plans on it being.

The thing is, it may have already started – where she is controlling the campaign more then he is.

If elected, we will find out some day that since McCain subcumbed to his age, disease, whatever early in the administration, it had been Palin who was in charge.

She is in the process of taking over the campaign and, if elected, the administration. This should scare everyone – including John McCain.

Why are the conservatives here pretending liberals would discourage protesting anyone, even Obama? You've got your parties mixed up, "my friends"! In fact I was one of thousands that descended upon the Democratic National Convention in an anti-war protest!

That protest was led by the Iraq Veterans Against the War, and we marched as close as we could to the convention. When the riot police would let us go no further, the Obama campaign sent out a representative to speak with us and consider the IVAW's 3 proposals.

ALL parties must be petitioned, it is your civic duty. Is it really "country first"? What does that mean to you? What defines a true patriot?

"There’s a time when the operation of the machine...makes you so sick at heart that you can’t take part...And you’ve got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus – and you’ve got to make it stop!" -Savio

Hey, you elitist ,copy cat ,non-truth telling , republicans. All of Mccain comments are mistakes he says. If you ask me and the country his whole campaign is a mistake. He said he made a mistake and did'nt vote for Dr.Martin L. King birthday to be a holiday. I guess he made a mistake when he said that he did'nt know his family owed a plantation in mississippi and owed slaves. This isn't a mistake it's the truth. Now, Mccain is copying off of President Obama talking about change. Mr.Mccain , President Obama is about positive change, not chains that stupidness was back in your time, but that's over and you need to just drop out, you and the lady, we've all had enough of your circus and clown show . Thanks Obama 08'

I love how the question of "Are you better off" is posed to try to prove a point as to why you should vote blue.

My answer....Quite frankly, yes I am much better off than I was 8 years ago. In the past 8 years:

- I put myself through Grad school at night,
- I started a family (married to a terrific guy, had 3 kids)
- Bought my first house 2 months ago because they are finally realistically affordable.
- More than doubled my own salary since 2000
- My only debt is mortgage and student loans

Do I feel lucky? Of course I do. But I am better off because I worked and continue to WORK HARD. In the past 8 years I didn't get handouts when times were tough or now when the budget is tight again. I don't have new furniture in my house or cable in every room and I donate to charity when I can. My point is, you don't need government involved in EVERYTHING to be better off. It's called working for it. You want to go to school – work for it. You want a decent paycheck, work for it. You want a house – SAVE FOR IT.

I am a Minority Female who isn't buying that arguement to vote blue because we are all in the toilet. Some of us are managing because we know the gov't won't nor shouldn't be there to pay for everything and bailout for EVERYTHING!

BK   September 18th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

When asked about Obama's foreign policy expeience. He said. 'Why can't I just eat my bagel?' NO EXPERINCE! And you people are worried about the vp's experience?

When asked another question Obama said. 'I'll get back to you sweetie'

And you consider him pesidential material?

I do not trust Obama to protect this country. If we get attacked Obama will say PRESENT

All we are saying is give peace a chance. Protesters are patriots too.
Anybody remember Kent State OH? The national guard shot and killed four innocent students on campus in an overreaction to an anti war demonstration They died for their country, even if they didn't mean to.
Republicans are all about god and country, that's all good except somehow they twist it into a need to kill others and justify later. Lets elect Obama and educate the right wing about getting along with others, even people who don't look like them, talk like them or believe in their version of god.

You people are talking about Sara forgetting what town she is in?? Are you kidding. I'm sure she at least knows that there are not 59 States in the U.S. Remember Obama thinking there were 59 states?? Give me a break. I'm also sure Sara realizes that it is impossible to give 95 percent of the U.S. working people a tax cut!!!! Why? Because only 60 percent of working americans pay taxes. The bottom 40 pay no federal income tax. Obama is in this due to people like you who are an uninformed electorate.

Les Livingstone   September 18th, 2008 3:16 pm ET

I was present at the rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, this morning. The four anti-war protesters tried to cast what was essentially a heckler's veto on the rally. The First Amendment gives Americans the freedom to receive and impart information. The hysterical University of Iowa girls at this morning's rally tried to take away the right of thousands of people to listen to Palin and McCain.

The University of Iowa needs to do a better job teaching students to disagree but not to be as disagreable as these four students were.

While the report correctly states that the crowd drowned out the protesters with shouts of USA, USA, Sarah, Sarah, and boo, boo, it should have stated that McCain lectured the girls about not yelling at people you disagree with.

"So Much Clearer Now!

If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic, different."

If you grow up in Alaska eating moose burgers, it's a quintessential American story.

If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic secret Muslim.

If you name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

If you graduate from Harvard law School you are unstable.

If you attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

If you spend 3 years as a community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

If your total resume is: local sportscaster, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.

If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.

If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife after a serious car accident and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.

If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very responsible.

If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's values.

If you're husband is nicknamed "First Dude", with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable."

Bush may have been more Unilateral his first term but he got it right his second term. 7 of 7 years and no attacks. He may not be a public speaker and awkward but he got it right in his second term. And for those of you who think Iraq is his fault you should know that the prosperous years you had with Clinton had a Republican congress.

I love how the DNC didn't have 'pro-war' protesters outside but almost every GOP gathering has some kind of protest...faaaantastic...Oh, and another thing...Dubbya already gave the 'Mission accomplished" speech like 5-6 years ago...getting out of Iraq wouldn't be surrendering, it'd just be flat out smart to bring our friends and family home...

I have to admire Obama for being such a genius to be able to inspire a lot of protesters, planting them in every city and ready for any GOP campaign. It's not about Dems being mad Don... it's about Americans being pissed as hell after having to live through the past 8 years and any patriotic American ought to be mad as hell. We have been lied to, deceived, manipulated, robbed, taken to war.... yes, that's right, we're pissed as hell and we're NOT going to take it any more....

Eep   September 18th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

Again chants of "USA" to drown out protesters. It is sickening the way they try to say anyone who disagrees with them is somehow less American than they are. If they lived hundreds of years ago, they would be trying to drown out the founding fathers.

I'll tell you why, we are sick and tired of country be run by a bunch of goons that don't have a clue that they are DOING IT WRONG! They fail to acknowledge when they are wrong and because of that they have gone left unchecked, meanwhile they have destroyed the American infrastructure. You guys are corrupt, corrupt!

Remember it's very simple, the Republican party is the party that wrecked America. We will not forget.

While you Neocons were busy calling for Clinton's impeachment, you got your way. Now people are calling for Bush's impeachment and they are called unpatriotic. Get over yourself GOP posters, get over yourself!

Vic   September 18th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

What qualifies Obama to be an expert on foreign policy??? I guess it would be his "fight" with General Petreus, his rock-star appearance in Germany, his speech in England when they suggested that he go to the beach. Joe Biden has lots of foreign experience. But the catch here is that he's not the president, and does not make the final decision on anything. So in reality, Palin - as the vice presidential candidate knows as much, if not more, than the one who would be president.

Jolly Old Saint Barack   September 18th, 2008 3:06 pm ET

My my... look at the gnashing of liberal teeth. Iis this how liberals were acting in the summer of 1984 just before Reagan handed the socialists a 49-state defeat?

Just so you know, it's going to be a landslide, hippies. And when you lose, don't think it was because Conservatives cheated to beat you. Socialism fails everytime it's put to a vote in this country and it's not going to be pretty for Obama Marx.

What happened to the right to free speech??? Tearing the banner down was uncalled for. I am glad the protestors interrupted McPalin. Love the comment about "I can see a gas station from my kitchen window" can I be your (McCain) Energy Advisor??

dm   September 18th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Talk about needing a teleprompter – who has to take his teleprompter everywhere he goes from now on? Obama. He can't seem to talk straight or get his facts right. His campaign is so fearful he's going to make a big mistake. Wait til the debates!

And regarding Biden with his "patriotic" statement. He and his wife made well over $300,000 each of the last two years, and one year they gave to charity over $300; the other year just a bit over $900. I thought that's what democrats were all about – helping the underprivileged. Sorry excuse for Americans! I just wonder why that's not a news item with this left-sided media.

I think it's funny how the democrats are scared – they never thought the race would be this close. I've never seen such ridiculous behavior from the democrats. Some of the things I have heard make me sick. What was up with all the protestors arrested during the RNC? Didn't see that at the DNC – guess we know how to be adults and protest within the limits of the law!

Regardless of who wins, some of the democrats have made total fools of themselves – how shameful!

Paula   September 18th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

MCcain always seems very uncomfortable on stage with her. I think he is always on guard for a bigger than big gaff that will sink his ship.

The protesters make no difference in the middle of a GOP base that would be out to see the GOP Bush twin and his poor pick for VP.

I don't think I have ever lived in a time where I have seen so much hate. The liberals are the most evil of them all. This is a group that practices intolerance? They only thing they tolerate is each other. I have seen many blogs from people saying that Sarah Palin scares them to death. The only thing that scares me is the type of people that write this hate. What is exactly is wrong with you people? It is much deeper than politics.

AntiBrenda   September 18th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

Wake up women of America!

Kristen   September 18th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

The robot Palin probably had no idea a protest was going on just like she and McCain had no idea there was an economic crisis until Monday. And how did McCain respond? By copying almost every part of the plan Obama has advocated for years. Obama requested an immediate sit-down with the Fed Reserve in Feb 2006–almost 3 years ago–to try to get the Fed to address what Obama saw as certain future economic disaster. That request was ignored, and we are where we are because of it. Don't tell me Obama lacks judgment and experience. We need a level-headed, thoughtful, yet tough Pres like Obama after the war-mongering, no brains, tough talk approach McCain's advocated. Think McCain's changed? Look at the immediate inflammatory reaction he had with Russia when they invaded Georgia. Most agree that McCain's coarse rhetoric ruined what would've been a situation easily resolved by diplomacy. Obama was initially diplomatic on the Russia/Georgia situation, as he should be, by rightfully noting that both sides caused the dispute. But when McCain worsened the situation by once again taking the black/white, good v. evil approach, Russia got ticked, pushed further into Georgia, and made it clear that they did so as a response to McCain's rhetoric. At that point, Obama had no choice but to echo the tough talk since the window of diplomacy was shattered by a fiery brick named McCain. McCain then had the nerve to accuse Obama of flip-flopping on the Georgia issue. McCain screwed it up! Palin has made it very clear that she wants to war with Russia. And why could this be . . . well, by threatening a new Cold War, the GOP will convice us that we need to "protect" Georgia, Armenia, Kazakstan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, etc. These countries just happen to be oil rich and for the most part, politically volatile. The GOP asks for freedom from foreign oil, but their actions clearly say otherwise. Obama/Biden 08

Kevin Leo (Jonesboro, GA)   September 18th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

What is most disturbing to me is that everytime McCain has protestors at his events, they are drowned out by chants of USA! McCain and the GOP do no have exclusive rights to patriotism, just stupidity. Instead of chanting U-S-A, They should be chanting "We're with stupid"...far more appropriate for a McCain-Palin event!!!

Attack Dog-Dem   September 18th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

Jennifer W (Burlington, Iowa   September 18th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

I'm glad there were protestors. I am definately not a fan of Sarah Palin or John McCain. One of my biggest problems with them is that they refuse to answer questions as they are asked. I was disappointed in CNN yesterday when Sarah Palin's first town hall meeting answering questions was covered. Someone in the audience asked Sarah Palin directly if what her SPECIFIC qualifications in foreign policy were and she started talking about having the readiness to be vice-president which wasn't what was asked. Joe Biden, democrat vice presidential candidate has loads of experience in foreign policy and can give specifics when asked. The media would never have allowed Biden/Obama or John McCain for that matter to get away with an answer like she gave. It's appalling the way she always dances around answers or redirects or distracts people away from the answers needed. She is completely unqualified to be vice president. Hilary Clinton had the qualifications, Joe Biden does, Barack Obama does.

JD in Houston   September 18th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

What's with the "USA! USA!" chants the Republicans do every time someone disagrees with their view? This has gone on for several years now and is the most un-American thing I have witnessed in my lifetime. We are a country founded by the right to dissent and built on recognizing the need to allow dissent as part of what makes us ALL Americans!

It's just another example of how Bush and his party have tried to divide this country and will keep it divided if McCain wins.

Lisa   September 18th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

The differences in the two leadership styles is so obvious by how they both deal with protesters. I saw a clip a couple months ago where some protesters at an Obama rally held up a sign and chanting. The crowd tried to drown them out with Yes We Can. But Obama settled everyone down, including the protesters, and asked them to be respectful and let him finish, then they could ask him any question they wanted – they'd have their turn to speak.

Contrast that with McCain rallies where the protesters are forceably removed, and McCain and Palin mock the protesters, or even worse, ignore them.

Who's a Leader? I think the answer is clear!

YES WE CAN!

Andrew   September 18th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

If you are an Obama protester at a rally and the Republican crowd tries to shout you down with, "USA, USA!"...

then simply shout back:

"Lipstick, Lipstick!"...that should stick!

Rush Limbaugh, the biggest bigot on the planet crying obama is race baiting...they just can cry me a river. this is the oploy folks, to get us to stop talking about the issues, especially the economy so they can turn this into a personality contest. Ladies and Gentlemen, if you do vote for McCain this election, he will most likely have President Bush as his mentor. He has voted for Bush 90% of the time. Fact check it, it is true. This criminal war will never end. Just watch!

John in Binghamton NY   September 18th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

Everyone knows if you do not agree with the GOP or Rush that you are god less or stupid. So were these protesters shot out back to cheers and chants of USA?

Andy J, NY   September 18th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

Why don't you liberals have a spine?

People of all political stripes should be condemning these moronic protesters.

If they want to promote their cause, they should have a rally of their own and exercise their right to free speech. However, NO PERSON should EVER interfere with another's right to free speech.

Just goes to show how vicious and ridiculous the libs are here. Oh, and we can't forget hypocritical. Liberals are always preaching about the 1st amendment, yet don't have the stones to stand up and protect it for EVERYONE. Yeah, conservatives have rights, too, you schmucks.

I'm not even voting for McCain and Palin- it is just the blatant hypocrisy of the liberals that is really irritating.

More and more women are realizing that they'd rather keep their RIGHTS AS WOMEN than to vote for a woman candidate.

I said, "Thanks, but no thanks," to Sarah Palin for VP.

Voter   September 18th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

I am heartened by the existence of people willing to protest the Iraq war in these complacent times. There was a time when young people took back their (our) power to decide when and where to go to war. Young people did it for us regarding the Vietnam war. Without their noisy, obnoxious, annoying and constant protests, thousands more Americans and Vietnamese would have been killed.

I was beginning to think that the only people willing to get out there and demonstrate for what they believe in had gray hair.

Sarah, you are not up to the job. Kudos to the protesters!

Voice of Reason = Obama/Biden   September 18th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

I've seen Obama address protestors in the past. McCain's camp just tries to drown them out with shouts of USA. How shameful is that?

I'm still waiting for an answer to the question the lady asked her about and she went on to talk about her athlectic achievement and MCcain said she was a star point guard on her basketball team. I think the question was about equal something.

Marilynn, Wilmington, NC   September 18th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

Vivi I agree with you.... I caught that "misspeak" also.. The Palin-McCain ticket.. :-)

I'm even more surprised that when she spoke the other night, she answered the question regarding equal pay for women... by saying she was a product of that equality system, and that is why she is where she is today. she indicated it started in high school when she was on the BASKETBALL team, and McCain added she was a point guard... What does that have to do with anything? The question was about McCain's stand on equal pay for women?

R, Ohio   September 18th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

It amazes me that there are people that really support Sarah Palin. People often say that she'll "shake up Washington", and how exactly does she plan to do that? Does she know what she's doing? I mean really, people we are at a MAJOR ECONOMIC CRISIS, and she has votes because she's a woman, a hockey mom, is pro-life.....give me a freakin' break already! This situation goes far beyond just "LIKING" her. Can she really do what's needed to save us from this failing administration, this failing economy??? John McCain is even more clueless, and many of those supporting him are certainly aware of it; they are just voting for him b/c they don't like Obama. Well, you don't have to personally like him. Take a look at his plan and ask yourself how it could help you; help this country.

John Bouchard   September 18th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

Good grief...are politicians supposed to never make a slip of the tongue? And I am not talking about the Clinton kind either. Perhaps Palin thought she was in the 53rd state or something...oh wait, that wasn't her...that was somebody else. Perhaps it is time to reflect that nobody is pro-war in America. No political party wants to see our young people die. We also don't want to see our civilians killed by terrorists, and to protect our interests we have to sometimes show our strength.

I'm glad to see the wheels starting to come off the Straight Talk Express. It also can't be good that McCain has to divide his energy and time between running a campaign and trying to block the investigation of Palin in Alaska. Republicans have created this kind of chaos where people feel the need to shout over political leaders in order to be heard. Wow! Why is it that Americans have turned so hateful recently? People, listen to yourselves! We have issues in this country that we need to work through, and calling each other vile names on comment threads such as this one is really not the way to solve them. This is scary!

We have two presidential tickets that need to be considered in light of their policies, personnel, and past record. You and I may have different opinions, but our goal should be the same–more economic stability, advancement of quality of living for every American, and protection from foreign threat. Both of these guys are trying to do that as best they can–just in different ways (herein lies the choice).

All the hate mongers on here really need to cool it. I hope you aren't my neighbors, or I need to move across town!

I agree with Rena. McCain has tried to copy much of what Obama has said.

It's sad how McCain has tried to separate himself from what has happened over the last 8 years. Wasn't he there when the Republicans controlled all 3 Houses of Government 8 years ago ? That is when the Republicans inherited a record surplus from the Clinton administration and that is when the tax breaks for the rich and the deregulation of the mortgage lenders started. Look at the mess they've made. And, believe it or not, McCain tries to make you believe he wasn't even part of it. He was just standing on the sidelines.

What a leader !!

(GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.) Standing beside John McCain at her first town hall meeting since being named to the Republican ticket, Sarah Palin was asked what specific skills she would bring to the White House to “mitigate that concern” of her perceived lack of foreign policy experience.

"Well, I think because I am a Washington outsider that opponents are going to be looking for a whole lot of things that they can criticize and they can kind of beat the candidate here who chose me as his partner to kinda tear down the ticket,” Palin said. But as for foreign policy, you know I think that I am prepared, and I know that on January 20th if we are so blessed as to be sworn into office as your president and vice president, certainly we'll be ready. I'll be ready. I have that confidence. I have that readiness and if you want specifics with specific policy or countries, go ahead. You can ask me. You can play stump the candidate if you want to. But we are ready to serve

McCain is trying to grab headlines by blaming Wall Street, talking about firing SEC chairman Cox etc. This is all for last minute political maneuvering to give false impressions that he can straigtenout the current mess. But all this is happening because under his stewardship as Chairman of the Commerce committee, the regulations and rules relating to Wall Street and other financial institutions were made so lax that the manipulators could do anything they wanted. Now he is waking up to realties and says he can do something. It's too late pal – you had the chance and you blew it. Now let someone with fresh mind and fresh insight do something about it.

Sara, Birmingham, AL   September 18th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

People tend to trash, scrutinize, attack women more than men. Obama has on his shoulders worse than Palin! It is Rezko, his pastor, and other. I cannot cannot believe americans. They need their excitement, they do not listen, they fall for petty things (Palin's misspeaching, her family things...), but avoid big things ( Obama's deals, and he misspoke more than Palin and Hillary together). Obama is not any better than the others.

They call McCain liar, but so is Obama.
Obama DOES NOT have good judgment.

they say that McCain copied Obama, well, Obama copied Hillary in many ways....

Obama changed his opinions many many times, so does McCain.

They are all copycats in a way. It is not easy to come up with fresh, new, never used, tested policy. There is always some sort of copycatting anyone...
We will be doomed anyway, either Obama or McCain. Should be Hillary.

When I look at both candidates, I think to myself that is the best that this great country could produce? I am not excited by either one, but everyone is all over Palin about her lack of experience. Which begs the question of how is Obama qualified to run this country (his experience is virtually identical to Palin's). He certainly is a good speaker...but that does nothing for me. How many times have politicians talked a good game, but can't fulfill on their campaign promises? While I am not a huge fan of McCain, he will be getting my vote in Nov. My vote has to be based on experience.

One other thing – I am not a fan of Bush...but his administration can't solely be to blame on the current state of the economy. Folks, we need to put some focus on congress – which is run by democrats.

Come Nov., I really, really hope we put the right man in office!!!

Palin stumbled out of the gate on arriving in Cedar Rapids. The Alaska governor told the audience that she was thrilled to be in “Grand Rapids,” the Michigan city where the campaign had just overnighted.

So? Obama did the same thing a few months ago. Too bad that didn't get reported on by the objective reporters at CNN. I'm pretty sure that was also right around the time that obama said there were 60 states, so if you want to bring up gaffes let's look at both sides.

And how is this news? Feminists always feel the need to interrupt republicans.. It helps them sleep at night. Now if it were a conservative group that started protesting it'd be news.

Five Reasons To Vote For McCain/Palin:
1. You feel that our country is better off today than eight years ago

2. You think that Bill Clinton's/Obama's policies are(were) bad ideas

3. You think that the Iraq war was(is) a brilliant idea

4. You think that Karl Rove and Dick Cheney did wonders for America

5. You believe that the next four years will be different than the last 8 using the same minds, ideas, and people!

God Bless our Country!

I'm tired of the Obama-Will-Tax-Me-To-Death-Tax-Hike stories, all Barack will do is bring tax levels for the people making 250k and over back to what they were during the Bill Clinton years. I remember those years fondly and my 401k does too!

McCain and Palin are trying so hard to keep the cover over that elephant that keeps following them. Their campaign is starting to look like slapstick. If I was't laughing so hard, I would feel sorry for them. And as for Rove, he's running as fast as he can from this botched up campaign.

Andy in Seattle   September 18th, 2008 1:43 pm ET

There's a reason we protest against the GOP. McCain suffered a lot from his days of being at war, but did he really learn anything? If he did, he would know that an unauthorized war based on lies and false facts only hurts us more at home and stretches our economy thin. What are his answers? Nothing. It is so disrespectful to our military with these idiots! i don't like war, any more than the next person, but at least I can support and appreciate the people who are fighting for me and my freedom. See that they are not protesting at OleBama's speeches, but better watch out, he will be sending them to serve in the military to gain the $4000 toward tution!

She can't get the city right. McCain sees Spain either as part of Latin America or an adversary. Everywhere they arrive they are met with protests. Way to go McCain! You are really uniting the nation and the world! Dividing us from friendly European nations and nominating a fraud to be second in line to the most powerful leadership position in the world. Not to mention, your pandering, flip-flop, regulate don't regulate, incoherent understanding of the economy .

Midwestern Truth   September 18th, 2008 1:41 pm ET

Being a graduate of the University of Iowa, I know too well how this group of losers act. It's really sad to have a town as great as Iowa City be filled with people who on one hand demand the right of free speech and then turn around and trounce on another's previlege. This is the same thing that happened during the RNC convention and I think it turns people away from the radical left.

Power to the People   September 18th, 2008 1:41 pm ET

I commend these citizens for voicing their outrage. A few weeks ago, I was scared because it seemed the American electorate had been numbed into apathy. Now I am starting to take solace in the words of a wise man who declared that nothing can stand in the way of millions of voices calling for change. Keep rising up, people!

Eric, Ann Arbor, Michigan   September 18th, 2008 1:41 pm ET

J from DC...you don't see more of Biden (or his wife Michelle) because they don't come across well in public and can't be trusted with what they may say.

Biden is a long-winded has-been who sticks his foot in his mouth way too often (like yesterday when he said it is "patriotic" to pay more taxes). Also he comes across as an "angry old man" and has had the same job (Senator) for 36 years (a perfect reason for term limits).

Michelle is basically an American hater and shows signs of racism, towards whites when she was in her college years (and took Obama to Rev. Wright's church where he married them). SHE OBVIOUSLY WEARS THE PANTS IN THE OBAMA FAMILY (a good indication Obama is not very strong or aggressive).

TC   September 18th, 2008 1:41 pm ET

Any person who is still ignorant, apathetic, unaware and irresponsible enough to vote for McCain and Palin deserve exactly what they get. Even the devil himself, Karl Rove, put out a statement today saying taht Palin was nothing more than a "political pick" to appeal to women.

That just proves what has long been known by any rational person, able to think for themselves, that the republicans have ALWAYS counted on the ignorance of the American, especially women, to win elections.

It is a proven fact that MOST REPUBLICANS ALWAYS vote Party, rather than on the issues. How pathetic!

Why didn't the chant "D-Fence" or "Go Team Go"? What a bunch of grunting morons.

Thomas Jefferson – Dissent is the greatest form of patriotism.

I would not expect GOP voters to understand something that complicated and I would not expect them to know any history either. This country was founded on protests and free speech.

If you want a war in Iraq then go fight it with your own life and own money.

If the crowds reaction isn't an accurate representation of die hard republican voters I don't know what is.

Just shout down any meaningful talk to solving any of the myriad problems this country faces by screaming "USA! USA!"

False and idiotic patriotism.

God Bless America, by giving its people the intelligence to elect leaders that work for our betterment.

Robbi   September 18th, 2008 1:40 pm ET

While I am utterly contrary to McCain's highly questionable platform, interrupting them is wrong. McCain and Palin should be freely able to spew all the ridiculous malarkey they choose. Then, afterward, Americans with sound wits and sense can counter it and tear it to shreds.

Palin abuses power. She fired the librarian after the librarian refused to censor books. The librarian was only reinstated after there was a public outcry. This gave Palin the right to claim that she never censored books. Palin is unethical and is a liar.

Obama-Junkie, IL   September 18th, 2008 1:38 pm ET

That's funny! Then Palin stumbled by saying she was thrilled to be in “Grand Rapids” in which she really in Cedar Rapids Iowa. Wow! It only took her 20 days since her announcement and 6th public event to confuse Grand Rapids with Cedar Rapids.

I think the McCain campaign better add a geography lesson to the VEEP plan along with economic policy, foreign policy, tax policy, education policy, and health care policy. She only has two weeks until her debate with Biden.

How a canidate hold up on the strenouse campaign trail is a good indication of how they will hold up if they actually make it into the ultimate executive office. Palin's recent slip up combined with the fact that she is too scared to talk directly with reporter indicates that she fundementally does not have what it takes.

R. Squibbs   September 18th, 2008 1:36 pm ET

It's ok that Palin's remarks were unintelligible. They're just the same stuff prepared for her by a Bush speech writer that she parrots off a teleprompter at every campaign stop.

Now if protesters drowned her out when she was actually answering and unscripted question, now THAT would be a shame! It was headline news when she actually responded to a question the other day!

none of the above   September 18th, 2008 1:36 pm ET

People like this are helping Mccain and don't even know it. Most people don't really want to be on the side of these people acting crazy. I don't really like either one of these two guys running, but since i have to pick one, i will pick the side these types of crazy people or not on.

Charlotte   September 18th, 2008 1:36 pm ET

Well, that's one of the caveats of living in this country. I daresay it's one of the perks. McCain can talk about "protecting freedom" until he's blue in the face - but "freedom" isn't just some nebulous concept to use on a campaign stump. It includes peaceful protest - even if it's obnoxious, disruptive, and inappropriate - without fear of reprisal. Because this is America. That's what we DO here.

JPM in Michigan   September 18th, 2008 1:36 pm ET

In McCain's 2002 memoir, "Worth the Fighting For," he wrote, revealingly "I didn"t decide to run for president to start a national crusade for the political reforms I believed in or to run a campaign as if it were some grand act of patriotism. In truth, I wanted to be president because it had become my ambition to be president. . . . In truth, I"d had the ambition for a long time."

Terry   September 18th, 2008 1:36 pm ET

It appears that the only people that have time to protest are those without a job. We, hardworking taxpayers, have to go to work each and every day and can't afford to miss work and protest. These jobless protesters are the ones Obama agitates even further too promote lies and deceit. Liberal Democrats hate when the right has something to say. The LDs are afraid we might listen to what the right has to say.

Fabian   September 18th, 2008 1:36 pm ET

Ignore the democratic protesting plants sent from the Obama camp. Sarah was fine. No one is annoyed with the slip of the tongue. Except maybe the biased media. Obama, Michele, Biden and the rest have made plenty of there errors as well. Oh, I forgot, Obama wants everyone to think he walks on water. Last time I checked, only one ever did that. Our creator!

Mama Sue, Chicago, Illinois   September 18th, 2008 1:36 pm ET

Interesting that they use a chant of "USA! USA!" to shout down protesters. To me it seems to say that if you disagree with them you aren't being patriotic. And yet, that is exactly what makes America strong!

This sounds about right; Republicans thinking they have a monopoly on patriotism by shouting "USA." Crazy stuff – thinking that being against the war is unpatriotic (all the evidence points to the contrary, by the way). Their behavior also shows how programmed/robotic they are with this knee-jerk conservative responses.

Part of me thinks these protestors are planted by the McCain and Republican campaigns themselves. It's the same theme, someone looks like their going looney and they get shoved out of the crowd by police officers and then the crowd chants like their at a sporting event. This has happened at Bush conventions and gatherings, the RNC just recently, and now this. It all just seems kind of strange to me.

The more protests, the better at McCain/Palin events. Unfortunately, most of their events have strictly controlled lists of invitees in order to prevent a showing of dissent. McCain/Palin are trying to divorce themselves from the record of their party over the past 8 years.....they must be held accountable, because the problem with the Republicans is that no one is ever held accountable for their disasters. Protest loudly, complain loudly, ask for answers, not just more of the McCain/Palin spin, lie, distort tactics.

MW / Calif.   September 18th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

This does not surprise me. A lot of Americans fear what will happen if an extremist like Palin is given even more power than she has now. This thought really horrifies me. Did anyone see the protesters in the Rep. campaign during McCain's speech? They were men wearing hot pink night gowns. At first I thought one of them was Rudy. :)

Peter (CA)   September 18th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

The protesters are not doing anyone any favors. They'll get a few seconds to shout and then they'll be hauled out. Go to the sppech, get close to the cameras, and unfurl your banner. Be respectful in getting your message across. If the campaign people tear your signs, do interviews with local media saying that the McCain campaign denied your rights.

We have seen how the Bushies handle such dissent. They never let you in to their events and remove you quickly if you get in.

Mark   September 18th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

Guess it's too hard for these women to get dates in Iowa.

Jeff Brown   September 18th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

Poor Gidget... Welcome to the big league!

James   September 18th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

There we go , McCain and Palin drama
Is this what`s you want to run our country.

Let`s get real
Go Obama !!!!!!

Ellie   September 18th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

Gov. Sarah Palin was asked at a Town Hall Meeting in Michigan to give SPECIFICS on how they would deal with the issues facing our country...

PALIN'S RESPONSE: "YOU WANT SPECIFICS? WELL… ...

SHE NEVER GAVE ANY SPECIFICS SHE BASICALLY JUST "BLEW THE QUESTION OFF" and began her usual "stumping talking points".

I'm surprised she didn't answer by saying....

Did I TELL you I can see Russia from my house.... or that I have a BRIDGE TO NOWHERE I want to sell to you, but I'll keep all the money!!!

BLAH....BLAH.....BLAH...

j.williams, san diego   September 18th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

Typical liberal leftist socialist that do not believe in free speech unless it's their own...Defeat the far left-Defeat Obama.

Central Scruitinizer   September 18th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

Amazing how this ticket has become so insignificant in less than a week. Is it the refusal to cooperate with troopergate? Is it her fluff filled stock answers to the handful of questions shes answered?? Is it the constant lies about bridge to nowhere? Or has a majority of people woke up and realized these two are not mavericks, not reformers, have no ideas of thier own and finally admit to needing to address the economy.

Susan   September 18th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

These two better get used to protesters. If they are elected into the White House and their policies (those of the Bush administration) continue, they will face worse in their four years in office.

Pops   September 18th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

I still don't get the whole idea of chanting "USA!, USA!" when someone is protesting. They are basically saying anyone against McCain/Palin is anti-American. It is like Republicans think they are the only ones who are patriotic, it is a little insulting.

Bullwinkle says no to Palin   September 18th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

I am only suprised that there not more protest and rallies against these clowns.

Obama 08

Bob Indianapolis, IN   September 18th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

WHERE AM I?? HOW DID I GET HERE?

This is not my beautiful speech! This is not my beautiful campaign!

My GOD! WHAT HAVE I DONE???

Sylvia B   September 18th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

Great job Anti-War protesters. Keep it up. We should try to do this at all their speeches. Watch out that no one gets shot. This is how the repugs squelch Anti-War protesters. NO MORE WARS!!!!!

Diplomacy First, Military Second   September 18th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

Protesting is protected in this country – it's one of the things that makes us a great nation. Newsflash, everyone – it's okay to not agree with war, especially when it's preemptive and based on political motives and not defense.

Republicans are for war at all costs, it seems. Not all of them...but the majority.

NORA, FLORIDA   September 18th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

Interruptions again at a GOP campaign. You don't say. This should a be a clear sign that the American people are just fed up!!!

Kinson atl   September 18th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

I would interupt to if she's going to give the same scripted speech in every state she campaigns in

brent   September 18th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

haha looks as if the ol wheels are falling off there mcsame

Alissa in Kansas   September 18th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

WHOOT! Glad to see they can't run from the truth, even if they try to distort it.

Mercedes   September 18th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

Where is the freedom of speech we so highly regarded this country to have? Its a shame that they we not allowed to stay. I believe that if there is a town hall meeting everyone should be allowed to speak their minds. That goes for the democratic party as well. This just shows how this country is so divided and the media doesn't cover it in depth.

SOUTHERN HOTTIE   September 18th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

MY BODY MY CHOICE is what they were saying. CNN why are you distorting the story?

Dave   September 18th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

Dems are really good at creating chaos

mitchell   September 18th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

glad she's not directing a float-trip.

NORA, FLORIDA   September 18th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

The better get use to the protest if they plan on winning because if they win, they haven't seen a real protest. This country will go CRAZYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Angus McDugan   September 18th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

This is how dems conduct themselves. No respect for anyone but themselves. Shameful and disapointing.

Rudy NYC   September 18th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

You forgot to mention McCain trying to speak to automakers at a car plant who waited for him to start speaking when nearly all began shouting, "Obama! Obama! Obama!"

Vivi Sanders   September 18th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

Not only did she "misspeak" the name of the city, but was it also a "misspeak" when she referred to the Palin-McCain administration?
Just who is the presidential candidate here?

Vivi from Lindale, GA

Matt   September 18th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

What a mess the Republican ticket has become.

Anonymous   September 18th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

An advance staffer tore the banner form their hands and other members of the audience shouted them down with chants of “USA! USA!” and “SARAH! SARAH!”
-----–

Are you sure they weren't chanting "Four legs good, two legs bad"?

Cam   September 18th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

Hahahahaha.....I'm glad to be in Grand Rapids, even though that's not where I am.......

nick, texas   September 18th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

Citizens enjoying their 1st amendment rights. Tearing down banners is
un-American.

obamacrat   September 18th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

Welcome to the big leagues Sarah!

Steve   September 18th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

ANOTHER Republican has jumped ship. This time it's Nebraska's Rep. Sen. Chuck Hagel. I agree Sen. Hagel, It would be a "Stretch" for Sarah Palin to be President. Most Republicans can see the writing on the wall, now their out to save their own butts!
GO OBAMA

mitchell   September 18th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

this does not look good on your resume' ,mrs. palin.

Loud & Proud Leftie   September 18th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

Love it! But, how sad for our (supposedly) free democratic nation that Palin's "advance staffers" tore down the banner. So much for free speech.

mitchell   September 18th, 2008 1:27 pm ET

the protests will only grow, now. it's becoming kewl. i do like seeing mcpalin squirm.

nunnya   September 18th, 2008 1:27 pm ET

Thank GOD for real patriots.

K.NIX   September 18th, 2008 1:27 pm ET

Good for them!!
Someone needs to let them feel the pain of the people
Not the elites
I hope they continue to protest wherever they speak.
Like the Roman empire, America would fall if those 2 got elected

ines   September 18th, 2008 1:27 pm ET

It was noticeable. We all saw it!

Kiah G.   September 18th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

HA!

mitchell   September 18th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

the wrong town? omg! i'm sure that went over well. methinks the protesters have it right.

Rena   September 18th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

Obama or America is doomed! It amazes me how months ago they claimed Obama had no experience yet he is the ONLY political candidateon this election feast showing that he has experience and good judgement. McCain has copied everything this man has done and said. He took the Change line, he now approves we need to talk to our foreign opposers, we need to regulated and not deregulate, we now need to withdraw troops out of Iraq using a timeline, and Obama said no holiday tax it's a gimmick; where is the holiday tax McCain? Thanksgiving and Christimas is coming up. Lastly, McCain said Obama is inexperienced yet he picks the least experiencef person on the map. Can't he come up with anything original on his own. Oh, I forgot he's waiting for Obama to come up with the next plan so he can copy that.

McCain=Copy cat and liar

J from DC   September 18th, 2008 1:25 pm ET

They said Sarah, Sarah. No McCain. I guess they really dont like him. And, to shout USA and Sarah, what does that really mean.??? What ever happend to "Yes we can." Oh, thats right, that Obama...

Transparency Please   September 18th, 2008 1:25 pm ET

Palin stumbled out of the gate on arriving in Cedar Rapids. The Alaska governor told the audience that she was thrilled to be in “Grand Rapids,” the Michigan city where the campaign had just overnighted.

aaaargh. Someone forgot to reprogram the Stepford Hockey Mom. Too bad.
Hey Sarah, how about some transparency...care to answer some questions about Troopergate?

a, holley   September 18th, 2008 1:24 pm ET

Any women wil do? I guess

J from DC   September 18th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

I heard a lot about the economy from Biden this week. Why do we not get to see more of Biden. I know he is not black, or a women, but there has got to be something positive and interesting about him that is worth reporting. So far, I am still under impressed with the current coverage, or quality of stories on him. For a story to run, it needs legs. For a man who has been in public service has long as he has, I think he is getting the short end of the stick. He may not have gotten a lot of votes in is Presidential run. But, then again, Palin did not even run. This man may seriously be the most qualified of all the candidates.
