Rove says the excitement surrounding Palin will wear off.

(CNN) - His insight guided both of President Bush's successful White House bids, but aides to John McCain might just be hoping Karl Rove stops talking.

Days after the prominent Republican strategist said the latest McCain campaign ads had "gone too far" and failed the "100 percent truth test," Rove told the Associated Press Wednesday he thinks the choice of Sarah Palin was a political one and that the excitement she has generated will soon wear off.

"Nothing lasts for 60-some-odd days," he told the Associated Press. "Will she be the center of attention in the remaining 48 days? No, but she came on in a very powerful way and has given a sense of urgency to the McCain campaign that's pretty remarkable."

Related: Palin excitement levels off

Rove also described the choice of Palin as a "political pick," and said she was not the most qualified Republican McCain could have chosen. But Rove also said Joe Biden, who has spent three decades in the Senate, was also a political pick - designed to make up for Barack Obama's relatively short resume.

"I think the American people have deep and persistent doubts about the readiness of this dynamic and charismatic first-term senator from Illinois," said Rove.

Rove's comments also come days after he wrote a column in the Wall Street Journal advising Barack Obama to stop attacking Palin directly, noting past attempts by Democratic presidential nominees to attack the No. 2 on the GOP ticket have largely fell flat.

“It's a match-up he'll lose," Rove writes Thursday in his regular Wall Street Journal column. "If Mr. Obama wants to win, he needs to remember he's running against John McCain for president, not Mrs. Palin for vice president."

Rove also told the AP Obama is an "arrogant dilettante," but continued to offer the Illinois senator advice on how to win the election: "The way that Obama can win is by explaining, expounding on who he is."

Someone asked Palin yesterday a policy question and instead of answering it, she said something to the effect of i say ask me anything you want, play stump the candidate or something like that. That was her answer? She didnt answer anything, and then McCain stepped in.

Obama, while still green, can answer a question.

It is so sad to me, because i used to like McCain, that he is willing to go so low as to play second fiddle to Palin just to get his name up as president.

HELLO- the excitement is already gone. its all the GOP's lying that's hurting them–2 pathological liars on one ticket–thats amazing . Hey Karl,
any insite as to why Sarah Palin continues to lie? How did she react when asked to be the V.P. candidate?

A) without hesitation (as she told Charles Gibson)

B) after discussing the idea with her daughters (as told to Sean Hannity)

If she did ask for her daughter's opinion, she should have told the first dude because he didn't know his daughter's knew what was going on. (as told to Greta Van Susstern)

Obama-Junkie, IL   September 18th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

Republican Conservatives do turn on their young!

Don't fool yourself fellow bloggers! There are a significant number of Republicans who look at the McCain/Palin ticket with disdain. Many so-called Republican surrogates of the McCain/Palin ticket have/are speaking out indirectly against it (i.e. Lindsey Graham, Carly Fiorina, and now Karl Rove).

Karl Rove was talking up the McCain/Palin ticket as smart for McCain 5 days after McCain announced her as his VP on Aug. 29th. But ever since Palin's interview with ABC's Gibson and the financial market mess, even conservative thinkers such as George Will and David Brooks really question whether McCain was right to pick Palin.

Hope no one Hacks into my e-mail for my comment.

Republicans Regret Palin Pick   September 18th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

McCain picking Palin was believed to be a rash decision and events every day are proving this to be true. Either she was not properly vetted or she was and the McCain campaign thought they could keep this stuff under wraps. Either way his judgment, or lack thereof is in question. She was a bad pick and we will lose this election because of it.

There isn't enough research in the world that can vet Sarah Palin in the next few weeks – let everyone do their job and shut up!

Cam   September 18th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

And it's more than I can say for Mooseburger Palin.

Check your facts next time.

P. D.   September 18th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

Palin is a flawed V.P. pick. He choose her not for her qualifications, but because she is a woman. Did He honestly believe women would fall for that? We are much smarter than he credits us. I am, in fact, insulted. I would never vote for a woman who charged rape victims for their own rape kits. That is cruel and unjustified!

Arden   September 18th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

I don't care what Karl Rove says, Barack and Joe are still the better pick. I anyone can vote for a Republican at this crucial time is absolutely stupid. God forbid that anything were to happen to either presadential candidate, however, at least Joe Biden would be the safer choice to step in to become President.

Mike in Columbus   September 18th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

Why is Sarah Palin alway Yelling?

Even the Devil Can Tell the Truth   September 18th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

Rove's correct. The surge generated by Palin won't last.

Remember, Karl Rove is first and foremost a careerist. He wants to be known as the guy with the sharpest, most accurate political judgments. So, the advice he's recently offered to Obama is truthful. Obama will help his own chances of getting elected, he if attacks McCain and Bush but pretty much ignores Palin. Palin's a fluffball who will fade all on her own.

Chris from NY   September 18th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

I don't know why Democrats are leaving their battle to the media and people like Rove to fight. Republicans for six years were in control of both arms of Govt and the Executive branch. And the Republicans have had the gutts to accuse the congress that Democrats have controlled only for two years of being reduncdant. And the Democrats are not fighting back harshly against these people. This is a mess. I like the Democarts but sometimes they made me question their political abilities. If the shoes were on the other side the Republicans would have bled this for all it's worth.

nobama   September 18th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

What Michelle in Philly said.....

There is NOTHING behind Obama's speeches. He talks pretty, but has not substance. Why does he need a teleprompter all of a sudden? He can deliver a speech but can't be specific on issues without notes. He may well have some difficulty in the debates, especially in the Twon Hall format. I guess we know why he rejected the McCain suggestion of a series of joint, town hall appearances. I think he agreed to that during the primaries, but to steal a term from most of you "Lied" about that, just like the public financing issue.

Palin in no way overshadows the career history, the preparedness to lead, and the vision of a McCain Presidency.

Clearly–she is a phenomenon–and may have a political future in her own right. But there is only one choice for President.

You can choose an agent (mindless, and inexperienced) of change like Obama.

Or a seasoned veteran who has warned of many of the problems we are facing today–while a lone Senator. A war hero–who has exulted in victory–and suffered at the hands of an enemy. Who better than anyone understands ALL of the roles of the President: negotiate treaties, preside as Commander-In-Chief of the armed forces; preside of exectution of the laws of the land; preserve the peace; defend the safety and security of the United States.

Palin is great. And clearly...she has more executive experience than the Democratic candidate and teh VP candidate–but she is running for VP slot. Nobody is more cognizant of that fact than Palin.

She will defer to the expert.
The citizens will make the right choice. Despite Mr. Rove.

I think even Karl Rove (who has always put his personal interests above those of the country) realizes that Palin is a serious detriment to the Republicans grand scheme of things. She is starting to do some real damage to the brand in the sense that they are now viewed as desperate and needy... that is something that could never have been said of Bush and his cronies.

Frank   September 18th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

Joan, Ontario   September 18th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

Probably Rove is not really trying to give any positive advice to anyone. He is just trying to improve his image and very low approval ratings. He has even lower approval ratings than Bush and Cheney which is pretty sad. Many people think he should have been forced to face hearings and maybe criminal charges. Whatever he says should be taken with a grain of salt and a lot of caution. Recently on the Daily show they showed him before Obama picked his VP ripping Kaine because he was just a governor and wasn't qualified and then they fast forwarded to him praising McCain's pick of Palin even though she has a lot less experience. On that same show, they showed O'Reily saying really horrible things about Jaime Lyn Sears unwed pregancy and blaming the parents. Then they fastforwarded a few months to him praising the Palins. There's a lot of double talk and hypocracy from both Rove and O'Reilly.

Karl Rove is really working to defeat McCain. His recent actions and statements certainly don't support him at all. The question becomes: Why is Karl Rove working to defeat McCain?

Quinn - Houston, Texas   September 18th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

Why is Karl Rove an ANALYST instead of an INMATE?

I still blame him for helping the worst president in our nation's history get elected.

He is right on one thing. Sarah Palin will come down off of her pedestal as soon as she starts answering the questions voters want asked.

Killbucket   September 18th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

Rove realizes he will need work after next year. I smell a book deal.

Kel in Auburn, AL   September 18th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

How is it that I've been agreeing with Karl Rove all of a sudden? He's actually been telling the truth, some..

Karl Rove telling the truth.. GOP steered the country in a bad direction yet still has a fighting chance to win, is this election getting wierd or what?

AMERICA for Obama   September 18th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

Hey Michelle in Philly, you're an idiot just like your stooge presidential candidate.

Kristen   September 18th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

Of course Palin was a political pick, McCain needed it to boost his ratings. And maybe that will help him temporarily, but frankly it scares me when a man who wants to run our country makes an ignorant decision like picking Palin (when he could have picked someone with much more experience). Do we want someone leading our country who is just looking out for himself? At least Obama is looking out for our country and picking someone who is qualified to be Vice President, and is not just a show boat pick.

ChrisP   September 18th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

It's a trick. People are asking for less "drawn-out" and more precise answers from Obama. Rove wants America to think that Obama is all words and little substance. Let's let Obama know to give them the substance and keep it simple!!!

Gobama   September 18th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

If any of you think Karl Rove is somehow being genuine, you're wrong. While we sit and comment on internet news stories, he and his staff are scarmbling to find an "October Surprise" to spring on the American people about Obama and/or Biden, if they haven't found something they think can stick. Mark my words.

The solution: do MORE than just vote. Talk to those people who are still (unbelievably) on the fence. Volunteer to drive people to the polls on Election Day. Do NOT be shy about why you're voting for Obama/Biden.

NO ONE can afford another four years of what we've ALL endured the past EIGHT – republicans and democrats alike and everything in between.

Republi-Con   September 18th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

Well..Well Rove..
Obama has displayed good judgment. insight, intelligence and even portions of an economic plan to restore America. His relative 'lack of experience' (as Republicans like to coin the phrase), is countered by Biden's experience and his foreign policy credentials..

McCain's ignorance of current events, his absent mindedness, along with his overall lack of intelligence is countered by Palin's ..... hmm, uhhh.. INEXPERIENCE!!!

Don't worry Karl..U are going to be exiled too... Just like GWB

Jack 64 year old   September 18th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

I agree with Karl Rove perhaps for the first time but, I can see why the Sarah express is going to get derailed – SHE WON'T STOP LYING!

The idea that Pa-Lie-N could be the president has scared the truth out of Carl Rove, he is willing offer Obama free advise in hopes of preventing that from happening. Cindy keep your eyes on John, he has his eye on Palin and she has meet his qualifications. The Republicans have to be pulling their hair out. Thank you Pa-lie-N, for helping the democratics. Obama is REAL Change   September 18th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

"she came on in a very powerful way" Rove did you mean she came on in a very lying way. She was only doing what your and McCain told her to do, and of course READ what she was told to read. Wait, to my understanding SHE was a GREAT liar in Alaska..........WAIT a minute is that what you are trying to say Rove, this is the reason you and McCain picked her, that EXPLAINS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DON"T TRUST HIM OBAMA, their UP to SOMETHINGGGGGGG................

Cyrus K.   September 18th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

As much as I hate to say this, but I think Rove is a "Closet Obama Supporter". He is a political mastermind, and enjoys the strategic maneuvering. I think he is really enjoying the cat-and-mouse game both campaigns are playing. Too bad he is a scumbag. I do give him credit for electing a dud twice in the White House.

Karl, don't you and Palin have a few subpoenas to comply with?

Mike in Columbus   September 18th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

She was a risky gamble from a failing campaign. She is a gimmick, nothing more. Don't tell me she was picked for her qualifications, that's absurd. Yes, it is reasonable to questions Obama's readiness too... that's fair. But to say she is more qualified is just stupid. Attacking Obama, is not a sufficient answer to questions regarding her qualifications.

It is a clear sign that Johnny McCain does not put our country first, he puts himself first.

Palin = Gimmick

Real thing   September 18th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

Excitement is not evrything, it is only emotion, and we cannot trust our emotion whether it is for Obama or McCain. The real question is experience, ability and character. We are asking the same questions about all candidates, especially Obama who is running for the highest office in the land, or the most powerful position in the world, a dangerous world.

fixthebroken   September 18th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

Michelle in Philly,

I think you need to get your facts straight. Obama has sat down with friendly and hostile interviewers, including the likes of Bill O'Reilly. When McCain or Palin sits down with Rachel Maddow or Keith Olberman, come back to me.

Good luck with your misinformation and distortions!

Johanna not voting GOP   September 18th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

Louisiana and Arkansas, nobody is talking about these two states. Arkansas is Clinton/democrat territory and Louisiana got hit hard by two or three hurricanes that the GOP did little about. I think those two are going to be Democrat blue this year.

Vegas Barbie for Obama   September 18th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

Amendment to my previous response: Rove is right about PALIN, WRONG about Obama! Rove calling OBAMA arrogant??? PLEASE!
OBAMA and BIDEN will win by a landslide. People see through picks like Palin in a heartbeat.

LB   September 18th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

Of course Obama picked Biden for his experience and knowledge of foreign policy and the economy. Obama should be using the saying Country First. If something should happen to Obama, Biden could take over on Day One. Obama was thinking of the U.S. 1st and what would be best for it. He could of taken the political way out like McCain and picked a no nothing, no experience, wacky women like Palin too just to get more votes. And no one can say Obama didn't vet Biden. Can you say the same for McNuts. Who nominates a person for VP who is presently under investigation for abusing their powers as Governor, whos family life has low morals and who doesn't even agree with the policies you plan to put in effect as President. Both McCain and Palin are an insult to the women in American.. Do they really think we are so dumb that we don't see right thru this lie.

Rove is right about Obama's choice of Biden as a political pick, but you know what?? THere is a big difference in his "political pick" and McCain's "political pick" ... Obama's choice of Biden will help him and the rest of the country and is good for both of those while McCain's choice of Palin is only good McCain and not at all good for the rest of the country (heck even Chuck Hagel said today that he doubts Palin is ready ... he hasn't said anything like that about Barack).

Erik   September 18th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

It's a setup. I DON'T BELIEVE A WORD OF IT. Rove is a pathalogical liar. He is in cahoots with the AMERICAN ISSUES PROJECT – the ones that SWIFTBOATED John Kerry. They are geting ready to launch their attack. Obama is ready. He is one step ahead.

david Armendale, SF, CA   September 18th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

Firstly, Rove belongs behind bars for committing treason by divulging the secret identity of a CIA operative for political purposes and undermining the work Agent Plame was involved in with preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Since Rove dropped her name, conditions have become progressively more dangerous in the area of potential Iranian involvement in nuclear proliferation and development.
Secondly, anything Rove has to say about this presidential race, of course, should be seen as the same strain of calculated, propagandistic drivel that he and his cohorts at Fixed Noise are so adept at disseminating.

Dick Armey
Maybe he'll join Team Obama?

He's diminishing the public's expectations of Palin, so when she gets through the VP debate without a major gaffe, she'll be declared the winner – like W was against Al Gore.

Celeste   September 18th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

The Republican campaign is going to crash and burn into political oblivion – they will be in the political wilderness for at least 16 years, I predict. Every Republican I see/hear are acting as though they dont belong to the incumbent party, which is responsible for the crisis (on all front)in America. They are behaving as if they are of a third party. They are totally at fault, the fundamental principles that they have supported all these years, are coming home to roost. John McCain and Sarah Palin both ascribe to the failed policies of the party. I hope the American people wake up this time.

B   September 18th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

Proud American   September 18th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

Karl Rove told McCain to get Palin and now he knows that this was a stupid move. Rove knows that Palin has NO substance and knows NOTHING at all about the country's economy, foreign policty etc.. That shows you that McCain can't think for himself and he would be a puppet for Bush in the Whitehouse.

Craig Nazor   September 18th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

Rove is the one who's arrogant. He should be in prison for contempt of court instead of handing out not-so-accurate election advice. So far, the Democrats don't seem to want to uphold the rule of law in an election year – it might galvanize the opposition. Oh, well, in sixty days, with a decisive win by the Democrats, those in the Bush administration who violated the law (and the Constitution) may be standing on ice as thin as the ice on which polar bears now stand, thanks to the very same "it can't happen to ME!" arrogance that threatens the entire globe. And with the current financial crisis, caused by Republican deregulation once again (didn't anyone remember the S and L debacle?!), we may not have the financial cushion we thought we had to address global warming. At this point, if people can't see how badly the current Republican Administration as screwed this country, then I supposed we will get what we deserve. Thank you, Karl Rove!

CNN – I know you won't post this, you haven't posted any of my comments, but here goes.

You all should check out the article on msnbc.com regarding Palin's governing tactics. She claims to want open government, but expects total secrecy from her staff. She uses personal email accounts so they can't be subpeoned when something goes wrong. She fires people when they disagree with her and appoints friends that are not qualified to run the departments.

Is that the type of government you want?

RJ, CA   September 18th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

Funny how Obama suddenly had "foreign policy experience" after a one-week sightseeing trip abroad.

Let's send Sarah Palin over there for a week. Not only would she draw bigger crowds than Obambi - it would shut the Obama camp up about HIS foreign policy experience - which is a great, big ZERO other than that orchestrated photo-op - which is why he had to pick Biden - who voted FOR the war in Iraq, to boot!

LOL – Obama/Biden - what a couple of losers - what do they ACTUALLY stand for?!

This former Hillary supporter is proudly voting for McCain/Palin!!!!!!!!!

Rove is one example of why Americans are really tired of the old style politics. We have so many more dire needs right now than worry about this "silly season" stuff.

I'm voting straight Democratic ticket for the first time in my life. Republican economics has failed during MANY presidents and congresses, including at the state level.

The Democrats just have more intelligent approaches and are the only ones who back individuals, small businesses, and workers....PERIOD

Stacey T., Lowell, MA   September 18th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

It would be nice if her 'celebrity' finally did die down. That way the issues (you know the little things that should be used to gauge electability) are discussed. I am also sure that Palin would like the 'Troopergate' press to die down, especially now that she won't (nor will anyone in the administration) cooperate with the investigation all of the sudden.

I hope Americans really are smarter than McCain-Palin are hoping.

I miss the John McCain of 2000; the Republican-sponsored 2008 version is just a shell of a man spouting lies, fabrications, half-truths, and BS. Recycled philosophies, dangerous political hijinks, unqualified picks and reckless rhetoric are self-serving and, more importantly, threatening to our domestic security. A ‘maverick’ does not mimic the talking points of Herbert Hoover while towing the Republican Party line. An elephant cannot change colors unless it lies in the mud…

Fan of carl now   September 18th, 2008 12:33 pm ET

Thanks for your honesty Karl. You are absolutly right. Her 15 minutes of fame is almost over. Good job Karl. Keep up the good work.

Henry   September 18th, 2008 12:33 pm ET

So, Palin is McCain's lifeline.

Would you give up your life preserver if you were in the middle of an ocean and it had a small hole? No, you'd cover the hole with your finger and pray like hell to be rescued. The Republicans have 48 more days, and they're praying like hell.

Kerry   September 18th, 2008 12:33 pm ET

Resembles Porky Pig huh?

Chuck   September 18th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

It sure will. It has already started. If you really want to see what Alaskan's think of Palin, go to Youtube.com and search "Alaska rallies against Palin". There are many videos of smart Alaskan's who know the real Palin. She isn't the Princess of Alaska that the GOP would like you to think. More like the ICE QUEEN.

TESAP:SAVANNAH, GA   September 18th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

OFCOURSE IT WILL..............

ONCE PEOPLE REALIZE THAT SHE IS THE DOLL THAT SAYS EVERYTHING JOHN MCCAIN WANTS HER TOO AND DOESN'T HAVE AN ORIGNAL THOUGHT IN HER HEAD.... THAT MAKES HER A.............................. :)

Ron   September 18th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

I swear to God Karl Rove and Rush Limbaugh are the same guy.

A New Beginning   September 18th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

Carl, I thik you were yesterdays news, look who you gave us for eigth years, so who cares what you have to say about our future.

WARC from Toronto   September 18th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

I wonder WHO the real arrogant dillettant is?

Susan   September 18th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

I wouldn't trust this guy as far as I could throw the big lug.
GO OBAMA!

Lesley   September 18th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

Gotta love Karl Rove. He tells it like it is. I don't believe he has faith in McCain and he obviously doesn't support Palin. 'Course negative ads are his speciality but I guess he doesn't want to be seen as the craftsman of a failed presidential candidacy.

NoMcSame   September 18th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

Race. All race is why he wants McSame and Palin. He would rather a person that he knows nothing about than to vote Obama. What has Palin and McSame shown that they would do more for the country than Obama and Biden. For 18 months all we would hear is that the country does not know Obama but all of that just went out of the window when it came to Palin and if McSame wins that would put her one last breath from president. Top of the line educated black is still not good enough But C student crash and burn McSame and five univ. in six years to graduate Palin is all American. She does not know nothing about nothing. Race. All race.

TC   September 18th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

Sarah Palin is nothing more than John McCain's talentless opening act.

She's the flavor of the month that many are tiring of. Fortunately, people who are able to think for themselves are pulling back the curtain on this phony and horrified by what they see.

tedious898   September 18th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

Wow ...I never thought I'd see the day that Rove would be a "boat anchor" for a republican ticket.

Honestly, I think this is a move of self preservation. He may be anticipating Obama will win the election. He doesn't want Obama bringing charges up on him. Smart man...no matter how much I dislike him. Knows how to save his butt!

Besides, we're all americans and we don't need a cheer leader, pom pom, sports caster, hockey mom, learning what a VP does on day one.

JB   September 18th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

I think the American people have 'deep and persistent doubts' about the value of Mr. Rove's comments.

AmericanGirl   September 18th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

I think the American people have deep and persistent doubts about the readiness of this dynamic and charismatic first-term senator from Illinois," said Rove.

Rove, I think the American people have deep and persistent doubts as to why you are allowed to open your dirty pie hole.

ANGIE   September 18th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

OK WHATS UP WITH ROVE? im not buying this WHAT IS HE UP TOO???

mike vanyo   September 18th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

you would have to wonder why carl rove isnt in hiding with bin laden with all the damage he and his sidekicks have done to america. if i was disliked as much as he is id consider living in a bunker in salt flats coming out only on groundhog day.

Truth   September 18th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

"I think the American people have deep and persistent doubts about the readiness of this dynamic and charismatic first-term senator from Illinois," said Rove.

Hey jerk!
I am an American and have no doubt whatsoever about this dynamic and charismatic first-term senator from Illinois.

Sharon, TX   September 18th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

Who cares what Karl Rove thinks! CNN, shame on you. I've been watching you for the past 20 minutes and counting. You are showing the McCain-Palin rally in Iowa continuously without interruption, in FULL. I don't ever recall you showing either Obama or Biden's rallies in FULL, and I'm certain you will not do in the future. I always have to go to the internet to see in full. Shame on you. You are a disgrace to your profession and you are not providing due diligence to the American public. May God hold you accountable for your bias.

grant   September 18th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

"I think they ought to be just honest about it and stop the nonsense about, 'I look out my window and I see Russia and so therefore I know something about Russia,'" he said. "That kind of thing is insulting to the American people."

Wow.........Rove FINALLY got it right!!! Do you think he and Fiorina will be traveling to Siberia together??

Shari, NY   September 18th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

Serious question for Palin: Hola! if you lived in Key West – a mere few miles from Cuba – would this make you an expert on how to handle relations with the Castro government?

Lisa G of PA   September 18th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

Don't let him fool you. Karl Rove is sly as a fox. He is only trying to stir up the faithful.

the other jd   September 18th, 2008 12:30 pm ET

Lord, I am agreeing with Karl Rove?!?!?! The world is all topsy-turvy!!! I feel dizzy.

Blah, blah, blah, blah.

Shirley   September 18th, 2008 12:30 pm ET

McCain needs to get another stump speech because the nomination is over. They are such a liar that the only way they can survive is to tell lies..

MISSISSIPPI FOR OBAMA   September 18th, 2008 12:30 pm ET

Who cares about Palin who cares about Rove? She can't even give her position on issues. Hell she can't even answer a question directly....oops......they don't have the answer....lol. Really looking forward to this Biden/Palin debate. That is one pitiful pitbull!!!

Obama/Biden 08

Dayahka   September 18th, 2008 12:30 pm ET

A political pick for McCain would have been Huckabee, but Palin was clearly a psychological pick, not a political pick. McCain likes weak and vulnerable women around him so he can feel manly, and that's what he wanted in a VP–not someone smart and independent, but someone who would do whatever he said because they would be dependent on him. The Palin pick was also psychological and not political because no one in his right mind would pick someone as unqualified as Palin or someone with such scientifically illiterate views or a fundamentalist nut based on politics.

Dandelion.   September 18th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

It already is.

TONY   September 18th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

After this weeks Wall Street disaster, how could anyone vote for the Republican ticket?? The vast majority of Americans are so easily fooled and even more easily led. How true.

Herman In LA   September 18th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

Palin is an empty suite...

Julia O   September 18th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

Rove calling anyone else "arrogant" is downright hilarious!

Keep talking, Karl. . . just keep talking. . .

Kaye- Jacksonville FL   September 18th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

The Palin "excitement" will not just die down....it will die completely!

As the truth of her record and leadership become widely known, Independent and moderate voters will reject the misrepresentations that McCain is throwing at us. Palin is not what McCain says, that's already clear....she will ultimately hurt his ticket more than help....mark my words!

Sarah Palin and African Americans in Alaska   September 18th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

Well, well, well. Those Repubs are more afraid of their own than they are of Obama. They know this is a distaster waiting to happen. Remember the Repub newscasters who made their comments into a hot mike who did not support Palin. Well, well, well.

A ray of Hope   September 18th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

Wow...that's sobering, but I smell a rat. They cannot be trusted, and this may very well be another sympathy ploy ~ since obviously the "alleged" and "most convenient" email hacking situation has proven futile. What else is left if the McBush bag? I'm growing bored with all of the DRAMA...

Jim   September 18th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

This American has deep and persistent thoughts that Karl Rove should be behind bars.

White Privilege   September 18th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

For those who still can't grasp the concept of white privilege, or who are constantly looking for some easy-to-understand examples of it, perhaps this list will help.

White privilege is when you can get pregnant at seventeen like Bristol Palin and everyone is quick to insist that your life and that of your family is a personal matter, and that no one has a right to judge you or your parents, because "every family has challenges," even as black and Latino families with similar "challenges" are regularly typified as irresponsible, pathological and arbiters of social decay.

More to come....

Irma in North Carolina   September 18th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

Who in the Heck side are you on? Make up your mind. We surely see that God is performing his task here, and he continues with his task of taking Sarah and John out of this election. We do not need four more years of Bush plus a president in the white house who has committed adultry, what kind of morals are these.

cara   September 18th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

I am listening to McCain... he is pathetic!!! WAR WITH SPAIN!!

DebM, Allentown, PA   September 18th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

What is Rove up to? He's actually making sense and being a little bit reasonable. Something's fishy, because he's never like that.

The excitement about Palin will subside, because she has no substance.

JimS.   September 18th, 2008 12:28 pm ET

And again, it begs the question (as I'm sure many other people are saying on this thread)....who cares what the hell Carl Rove thinks?

Face it Rove, you're going to need a real job soon.

Softening the crash landing, Rove?

No more Bush   September 18th, 2008 12:27 pm ET

Obama will win by talking about policies, and why his ideas are worth voting for. He should never listen to people like you. We got his back this election, we will vote.

Sarah's shadow   September 18th, 2008 12:27 pm ET

Karl Rove, you sound much wiser these days. If only McPalin could get some wisedom from you...

Obama '08

TC   September 18th, 2008 12:26 pm ET

Palin is a novelty act. Nothing more, nothing less.

Saddest thing of all is that so many across the country have been in a coma for the last 8 years, especially white women, and when they awoke the first thing they asked for was Kool-Aid.

How pathetic that women are taking such a huge leap backwards and are too ignorant and apathetic to even notice.

Sarah's shadow   September 18th, 2008 12:26 pm ET

PA Independent   September 18th, 2008 12:26 pm ET

Karl Rove has a lot of guts to call anybody "arrogant".

J from DC   September 18th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

This is an interesting story, Since Palin is doing interviews with Fix News, I mean FOX news. Other reporters are trying to change their tone on the McCain Campaign. I think, they feel that writing positive words, will gain some future gratitude from Republican, with hope of getting a much sought after Palin interview. I think that if Palin does not want to interview, just report the news. I mean after her recent interviews, I never really hear anything news worthy that she said. Except for the fact that she said something at all. If that is the real story, there is no story there. Obama is the hope for the rest of us, and Biden is still my kind of guy. McCain has no answers at all.

Catherine   September 18th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

I guess the blossom's falling off the turd eh, Turdblossom?

McCain Invented the BlackBerry, Palin Invented the Manure Spreader   September 18th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

Way to go, Karl! Tamp down those expectations!

Maybe no one will notice that Obama wants to build a bridge to the future, while McCain wants to build a bridge to nowhere.

Gary   September 18th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

I can't believe that I actually agree with karl Rove on some things???

Truth does matter   September 18th, 2008 12:24 pm ET

What????? Not with the news fawning over her. She sucks and so does John McCain and Americans are brainless to even consider her for president.

Kevin Leo (Jonesboro, GA)   September 18th, 2008 12:24 pm ET

blake   September 18th, 2008 12:24 pm ET

He is a very sneaky fellow that Rove.
