AFL-CIO plans economy mailer on McCain's 'strong' remark

The AFL-CIO will send a two page mailer out Monday.
The AFL-CIO will send a two page mailer out Monday.

(CNN)—In the face of growing economic concerns, the AFL-CIO will being sending out a new mailer Monday taking direct aim at Sen. John McCain’s recent comment that the fundamentals of the U.S. economy are “strong.”

“John McCain says the economy is fundamentally strong,” the mailer reads. “John McCain is fundamentally wrong.”

McCain made the comments at a campaign event in Florida hours after Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy last Monday.

"You know, there's been tremendous turmoil in our financial markets and Wall Street," McCain said in Jacksonville. “Our economy, I think, still, the fundamentals of our economy are strong, but these are very, very difficult times."

The Obama campaign has used the comment to attack the Republican nominee, calling him “disturbingly out of touch.”

The mailer, which the AFL-CIO calls their “broadest yet,” is set to reach more than one million union households in the swing states of Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

The mailer will coincide with an e-mail reaching 500,000 people, phone calls and door to door visits from volunteers.

McSame again nails it ... NOT.

    McSame = Clueless = Senile

I can only hope that the poll shifts that have been in the past week have people getting past Caribou Barbie, the "shiny object," and looking at the issues. McSame is wrong, time after time. He's wrong on everything, but I do have to say I'm glad he invented the Blackberry. : -)

Just say NO to Bush 44.

    GO Obama/Biden!!

Naturally the right wingers will try to equate Unions with Communism, etc. McCain is in full back pedal (or rather back 'peddle') over this comment. He has no clue on the economy and has been a staunch advocate for deregulation which has directly contributed to our current financial crisis. He is unqualified to lead.

YIKES! That's a mailer for you.

I remember in McCains acceptance speech he said he would deal with the union bosses. As soon as he said that I thought; there goes the union vote... the teachers were next...

I'm voting Democrat because English has no place being the official language in America.
I'm voting Democrat because I'd rather pay $4 for a gallon of gas than allow drilling for oil off the coasts of America.
I'm voting Democrat because I think the government will do a better job of spending my money than I could.
I'm voting Democrat because when we pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq, I know the Islamic terrorists will stop trying to kill us because they'll think we're a good and decent country.

If the AFL-CIO is willing to mail these flyer, one would think, seriously think Palin/McCain is dead wrong about the economy.

Palin I work in a hospital patient registration representative does it mean I am qualified to be a doctor, nurse, CEO? You may mean well, but we don't trust you and believe you are a danger to this political world.

I and a lot of my friends had jobs outsourced overseas, and we weren't union.

Quit blaming, and find a solution. Put brains in the white house and while you're at it, put in decent senate and congress

Deregulation and high-risk lending practices caused the Savings and Loan collapse in the 1980s. Taxpayers footed the bill while S&L directors, including George Bush’s brother Neil, walked away with millions. The current financial crisis resulted from similar conditions promoted by the Bush administration and Congressional Republicans. Time for a change?

Trying to figure out with the economy in trouble and the unions being big backers of Obama then why are they pulling strikes –AT THIS TIME. It looked as if maybe Boeing was gong to get the military new refueling planes contract so a French company and other overseas companies didn't and then they pull this strike. Is that the way Obama wants to rebuild the economy and stop out sourcing? Non of them care about America. Now this whole contract is being reevaluated by the Pentagon and could very easily go overseas. we need help keeping people working not striking. What bad timing-- BUT they are Obama people and are going to help the American people and economy. What a bunch of crap!!!!!!!!!

IF you leave a disabled wife to take up with a drug-addicted beer heiress worth untold millions of dollars, owning who-knows-how-many houses, then yes, for you the fundamentals of your economy
    probably are strong.
Foe real people living in the real world however.......
